What if you could silence the sideline critics and finally take control of your life’s steering wheel? Today, I'm sharing insights from my latest book, "The Driver's Seat: How to Get Out of the Backseat of Your Life and Drive in Your God-Given Purpose." We’ll uncover why it's vital to cut the ties holding you back and courageously step into the driver's seat of your life. Forget about those who prefer to critique from the sidelines while they themselves remain stagnant. Life is an incredible journey, and it’s time to drive your unique vehicle forward, embracing the miraculous nature of our existence as time travelers who can only move forward.

Join me, Jay Floyd, as I challenge the prevalent culture of criticism that keeps so many parked on the sidelines. We’ll explore the dangers of expending energy on judgment rather than fueling your own journey towards your goals. Whether you're a celebrity or an everyday person, the key is to maintain momentum despite the noise. Tune in for a thought-provoking discussion about taking action over judgment and how focusing on your path will keep you moving forward. Your life’s direction is too important to leave to the opinions of others—let’s get moving.

Speaker 1 (00:01):
What's good everybody .
This is Jay Floyd, host of theOn Everything Podcast.
Listen, I want to tap in onsomething that has been on my
mind recently, and that is thisidea of what I call critics on
the sideline Anybody who followsme, who thinks about any of the

(00:35):
points that I've made, any ofmy leadership and coaching.
Tennis driving forward beatsstanding still.
I'm going to say that againDriving forward beats standing
still.
One of the reasons why mycoaching guide, the book, the
only coaching book that I'vewritten so far is called the
Driver's Seat, and in that bookI make a real hard analogy to
your life being a vehicle andyou being the driver.

(00:55):
You happen to have the courageto get out, get out of that
backseat, whatever's tying youto that backseat.
Cut those straps.
Get out of the child's seat ifit's from your childhood Get out
of the whatever straps you'rein and have the courage to get
in that driver's seat and drive.

(01:15):
It's important that we goforward.
It's so important.
Life is life, literally, and Imake this analogy in the book
too.
I mean, I'm bringing up thebook so much you might as well
go buy it.
It's on Amazon.
The driver's seat how to getout of the backseat of your life
and driving your God-givenpurpose.
But the reason why it's soimportant that we drive forward?
Because we are literally timetravelers, right like we are.

(01:41):
Think about what life is right.
Sometimes, you know, things geta little mundane.
We might be like oh, we'regoing to get up and go to work.
Oh, I got bills.
Oh, I'm stressed about this.
But think about how miraculouslife is.
Think about the fact that yourlife is sparked and there is

(02:01):
nothing separating your bodyfrom the dirt on the ground,
other than a mysterious,invisible force that's making
your heart beat, making yourlungs breathe, making keep us
regulating your temperature at98.6.
That we are miraculous beingsand that life lifts from the

(02:27):
ground and moves forward.
We are time travelers who onlymove forward, and one of the
dangers of today's day and ageis everybody has a voice to be a
critic and don't get me wrong,I like to criticize stuff, to
like to voice my opinion, but inbeing a critic, you can't get
stuff to where your main goal, your main gear is park when

(02:53):
you're parked on the sideline, you're pulled over to the
shoulder in your vehicle, yourspecialized vehicle that God
made just for you.
You pull it over to the sidethat God made just for you.
You pull it over to the sideand you get out the car and sit
on the hood and watch otherpeople and criticize oh, they're
going too fast, oh, they'regoing the wrong way.

(03:14):
I'm pretty sure they want to goeast and they are headed west.
We want to analyze what otherpeople are doing.
Don't get stuck on the sidelineof your life.
We live in a time where it'seasier than ever to point
fingers and call out flaws.
But listen, all of that energyspit on judgment doesn't move us

(03:38):
forward.
Make sure that your main gearis your life.
You're in your vehicle andyou're moving forward.
Okay, yeah, you can look out.
I know it's human nature thatwe're gonna look over.
We're gonna see a car.
Hey, they don't know how todrive.
Where did they learn how todrive?
They must be from Atlanta.

(03:59):
No, no disrespect to any of mya-town folks.
Right, yeah, we don't look outthe window.
But listen, this is a.
This is a high traffic zone, high traffic zone and the?
Here's the key I want to makeright sometimes, when you're

(04:19):
criticizing, if you're pulledover to the side and you're out
of your car sitting on that hoodand looking at other cars and
criticizing how they're doing.
A lot of times you are right.
You are making a validcriticism.
They probably are going westand they need to go east.
But guess what?

(04:40):
You being right does not fuelyou at all.
No-transcript.
You can go check my YouTubechannel.
I have another video calledYou're Either on the Floor or in

(05:03):
the Bleachers.
You Cannot Do Both.
Listen.
Celebrities, influencers,everyday people criticized
online for their decisions, yetthey are still moving forward to
their goals.
That person that you look atand you say, oh man, they're not
doing it right or I don't likehow they did that.
Even when you're right, theystill move forward.

(05:25):
They can always course correct.
You know what?
I should be going east, but I'mrolling.
I'm in here, I'm in the race.
Listen, you may not have theperfect car, you might not know
the exact route, but as long asyou're driving forward, you're
making progress.
Stay in your driver's seat.
Stay in the seat.

(05:46):
Don't get out and pull over tothe shoulder.
Stay in the seat, keep driving.
Criticism does not fuel you andguess what?
It doesn't stop the otherperson's progress.
Okay, listen, thank you forjoining me.
