The story of our people's existence on these lands has been for thousands of years.

Obviously the European mindset was never going to see Indigenous peoples as equals.
Inequality of bargaining power, completely. And today, even with the modern treaties, we have the same problem.
This is also why the concept of building trust after so much is lost is so difficult.

(00:33):
People had no idea about residential schools. There was disbelief that this actually happened.
So what was needed then was an Indigenous approach and a transformative approach.
So that was the Truth and Reconciliation Commission changed everything really was the turning point.
And that was we knew would be the legacy piece.

We represented great strengths. We represented a voice that could not be ignored.
