The superstition that a black cat crossing your path brings bad luck is one of the oldest and most enduring. The superstition may have originated from European folklore that claimed a black cat crossing your path by moonlight often meant death by epidemic. In America, black cats are often seen as a symbol of evil omens and are suspected of being from the family of witches or considered shape-shifting witches themselves. On the other hand, in Western culture, white is often associated with purity, goodness, and innocence.

A white cat appearing in your life or crossing your path could be interpreted as a sign of upcoming positive changes or divine intervention. They are also sometimes considered as bearers of good luck and prosperity. Did you know there are Cat deities for all cultures?

Some Common Superstitions:

Black — Bad luck. Obviously, this is entry level stuff.

White — If you’re sat there thinking “obviously white is the opposite of black, so this must be good luck.” You would be absolutely wrong. Also bad luck. Worse, if anything.

Tabby — You are about to be betrayed.

Oh, wait, short haired tabby or long-haired tabby? Short-haired Tabby

— You are about to be betrayed. Long-haired Tabby

— You are about to be betrayed in a much, MUCH, MUCH worse, much more humiliating fashion. Sorry.
