(01:12):

And it is lookingbeautiful out there.
Hey, Danny, it's glorious.
We're here.
Colorado vibes are high.
How you doing, dude?
You're looking like the purplepeople eater.
I am purple people eater, man.
Trying out this new color.
Full purple. You have the hat.
(01:35):
Does it match?
No, you're Matt. No. Britney.
How are you, Britney?
I'm good.
How are you doing, Dingo?
Man, I could not be better.
We have two of my favoritesnowboarders in the world,
two superstars in the worldto kick off Winter X-Games.
And we've got Chloe,Kim and Joey Sadowski Sinnett.
(01:57):
Joey,I've been I've been hanging
out at your dad this weekend, and I really know I've got to
I've got to get the fullI got to meet
Chloe's that many, many, many, many years ago.
But now it's full circle for me.
And I know whyyou are the way you are.
Yeah, I can say thatI'm a better person for it.
Now, girls, how are we?
We're doing well.
(02:17):
Happy to be here.
Yeah, so I can.
I got a list in front of me,and I can start here
by some achievement.
Joey nine X Games medals, fivegold, three silver, one bronze,
one gold medal, An Olympicsbronze medal at Olympics Indoor.
And no, wait, How many goldmedals at the Olympics?
You'd have to know.
I've got one.
(02:38):
You've got one in a bronzeand a silver and a silver.
And then down here, Kobe, you have six
X games, gold medalsto Olympic gold medals,
and you've won everythingfrom the Tonys, the Keys,
and you took like basicallyeverything, everything.
Two of the most celebratedgirls in snowboarding,
one hotpot, one slopestyle, one from New Zealand
(02:58):
and one from the Bay Area Girls.
Did we ever think that we'd besitting here in this
achieved by such a young age?
Chloe Definitely not, no,but super grateful for sure.
Let's take it backfrom the beginning.
Chloe I rememberI can't remember the
first time we met, but it was,it was around 2016,
(03:19):
maybe ish, 15 ish.
Maybe I met Danwhen you were younger,
but it was when we hadthe monster bag and it was
we were snowboardingwith Steve Aoki.
Yes, that was the first timewe met.
That was the first time we met.
I was there also.
I do remember that.
Yeah, because I remember youhitting the bag and then Steve
(03:41):
being like,Hey, I'm going to try a flip.
We're well, youhave to make it to the back.
I think he did it though, right?
Yeah, He's doing it onsnow, right?
Yeah.
He's done backflips on snow now.
Yeah.
Wild guy. Love him, though.
Chloe, let's jump into it.
You have your freshly back, your back on snow.
(04:02):
You took a year off.
I mean, you are probably stillsnowboarding a little bit,
I would say.
But a year outfrom competitive but year
set back from the scene.
How are you feeling?
I feel really good.
I'm super excited to be back.
I think that taking that timeaway was super.
It was just really good for me.
I was able to kind of resetand kind of give myself space
to grow as a person as welland kind of get my priorities
(04:23):
back straight.
And now I know,you know, I'm here
because I want to be here.
And I think that's allI needed to know.
Yeah.
And at the end of the day,you know, Danny,
you've been through this.
You've been through, you know, the Olympics,
you've been through the highsand the lows of what happens
and what doesn't happen.
It's importantto take time to yourself.
so much.
And I think it's like,really important to,
like, actually take time awayfrom competitive side
(04:45):
or switch to a different focusin snowboarding and then like
come back to a half pipeor slopestyle and be like,
Holy shit, I'm so good at this.
Like, this feels really good.
Whereas,you know, it's like a struggle
to do things like schoolwhere you're like practicing
how to rememberthings, to get, you know,
Yeah, that's not easy.
It's not easy.
(05:07):
And then usually,How are you doing this year?
I'm pretty good.
Like mentally, not quitephysically at the moment.
I had a bit of an injuryin December at the World Cup,
so sadly, I'm not competingthis year, which really sucks.
But I'm so happy cause I'mthe biggest fan.
So what?
I can't wait to watch everyonewatch Chloe get back
(05:27):
in the fight for X Games.
It's going to be set.
The level ofcompetitive slopestyle
riding on the females.
Is that such a new level?
I think in the lastcouple of years, no.
I think that Jamie Andersonmaybe stood out on her own
for like some time.
But now you lookand there's Tess and Kokomo
(05:50):
and and and meand Annika and Anna.
And I like for the like,I am very excited
for not just this weekendbut the future of of where
black women's slopestyleriding is going.
And it's one of those it'sone of those things
you watch now.
And I mean Kokomo is level isis has been stepping it up
(06:12):
and we were brieflytalking about it last night in
the hotel room. I mean, whatwhere is this going to end or is
this just keep going for her?
I don't think it's going to end.
It's like this.
The only way is up.
And I think we'll see it herethis weekend.
All the girlshave been working so hard
and it's going to be crazyto say,
(06:33):
you know, there's five girlsnow with the potential
to go, 14 potentialto do 14 in slopestyle.
So, yeah, I'm excited to watch.
And do you have any favoritesright now?
That's a hard question.
I do have favorites, butI don't want to say of course
I'm going to say my monster. Tryand test from across the dirt
(06:53):
for sure.
But Kokomo.
Yeah, she'spretty hot at the moment,
but honestly, all the girlshave such big repertoires
and all have the potentialto get on the podium.
So I'm just excited to watchhow everything comes together.
And then what about you, Chloe?
You kind of stepped outof the limelight for a year.
Is it wasit hard coming back into it?
(07:17):
It's kindof like muscle memory for me.
I think I was able tofigure it out pretty quickly,
but I, you know, competitionsI feel is pretty strong.
All the girls are killing itand it's just really cool to
be part of that progression.
I think, you know, women'shalf pipe snowboarding
is not where it used to be.
so many girlsfrom all over the world
just completely throwing down.
(07:38):
And I thinkyou guys will be able
to see that tomorrow night.
So guys, I have a video herethat I'm going to roll of
both the girls here.
It's going to rollon our screen.
So I have it in rightnow, that beeping.
And this is justsome highlight reel of both
you girls right now.
It's you on screen, Chloe.
(07:58):
You have just some of your XGames moments.
Do you have some of what year?
Like what what year was yourfirst X Games
and what's the difference nowfrom then to now?
My first X Games was in 2014.
I was 13 years old.
I actually got silver thatyear, which was a big deal.
I remember getting my X gamesinvite that your actually
(08:18):
it was right after due tourand I was screaming in the car
so excited. Itwas a dream come true for me.
So it's kind of surreal.
You know,I've been coming to this event
for almost ten years.
That's crazy to think about.
How long you beencoming to this event?
Danny I competed like 13 yearsstraight, and then I think
I took two years offfrom not competing too then.
(08:41):
Now this is my fifth yearas a full on spectator
and just fans.
And then we're going to jumpinto some clips here of you.
Zoe, what was your first yearat X Games?
My first year at XGames was 2019.
I was 17 years oldand I actually got
invited in big air, but it wasalternate and slopestyle.
(09:02):
And then, yeah, I, I guessa couple of the girls got hurt
and I got the spot for soand managed to win that.
Yeah.
Which was a crazy so crazylooking back on and yeah,
I've just been so gratefulto be able
to come back every yearand compete in Aspen
because it's the bestevent of the year
(09:22):
We also have some backcountryfootage.
It just popped upon the screen there.
And you'reno stranger to backcountry.
What's the difference for youof being able
to jump from a venue like thisand then go on to compete at
sites, say,like a natural selection?
Yeah, for sure.
I mean, I'mlike every snowboarder.
I love riding power so much.
And so any chance I get out,I'll be out there.
(09:44):
And yeah, I guess the differencebetween competing in slopestyle
and thenin the backcountry is like
you kindof have so much freedom.
And so eventslike Natural Selection
and you justgot to figure it out.
Whereas you show upto an event like X Games
and you're like,I want to do a 1260.
Yeah, this is my go.
And you know what thethe jumps like,
can you practice on it?
(10:05):
And then you just have toperform when the time comes.
But yeah, natural selectionyou kind of drop in and kind of
have to take everything as itcomes, you know, like it's
quite, it's quite unexpected.
Growing up in New Zealand, who were some of your idols
or who did you look up tofor me, growing up
in New Zealand, snowboarding,my idols were the likes
of Stephanie Luxton andChristy Prior,
(10:29):
Mitch Brown, who now coachesfor the New Zealand team.
I mean, I used to competeagainst Mitch in junior world.
Yeah.
So she was like one ofthe first kids I ever saw,
like, have like, of course,praise
full page spread and magazine.
But the bulk of them, that'sI love seeing that.
And this kind of comesin to you, too,
You know, Danni, you'renow the head coach of the US
(10:51):
snowboard half white teamand you see people
that you grew up with.
You had a full careerin snowboarding,
obviously with your accoladesand X Games and Olympics
and doing your own thingwith all the Grenade movies
that we did in and then takinga little bit of time off,
but now being able to come backand be
a coach and be an onlooker, you know, and you stand around
and you look at the people nowthey're on top of the hot pipe
(11:13):
and you see a lot ofthe people that I guess
you used to compete against.
Yeah, I mean,definitely see quite a few,
you know, like I think asan accomplished rider,
you kind of get to seelike a few generations
as you go through it.
We were like, whoa,A couple of people fade away
and there's new facesand then some new faces.
And then now is like this nextrole, like getting to coach.
(11:35):
It's really cool because I hadso many positive influences
throughout my careerthat were like team managers
and peoplethat I got to snowboard with.
Like I really learnedso much from
as just like a snowboarderbeing taken care of to
then be like, you know,I really want to do this for
this next generation. And thenas far
as style goes, it's really funto come back into it
(11:56):
and be like influence riderswith their new tricks
and new combosand like create that fun
aspect as opposed to just likeadd another one, added
another one,you got another 180.
It's like, no,try this with a different grab
and like start to influencea little bit
more of like training sessionsas in, like our old film
shoot style, you know,or like backcountry jump
(12:16):
kind of style.
How do you think like X-Gameshas changed over the time that
since when you started to now,in what ways do you think?
A lot more rotations,a lot more rotation.
I mean, going backto kind of like, you know,
what Dingoand Zoe were talking about
was in the progressionof women's like slopestyle.
(12:36):
There's tricksthat like I didn't even dream
about as a pro riderfilming video parts
that I'm watchinglike some of my favorite girl
slopestyle was doing.
And it like blows my mind, you know, that
that progression has likecaught up and then surpassed
where like we even reallyenvisioned it being right.
I think just the elevationof these riders, the platform
(12:58):
they're at, is so cool.
It's like, you know,we were cracking into
like what was superstarsof America in a sense.
And now it's likethe whole world's
eyes are on these athletesand it's like influencing
so many people in so many goodways across like the world,
like you see so many countriesso involved in
in snowboarding and skiing.
(13:19):
Now you're like, wow, that was really cool
because at that timewhen we were doing it,
there was likea couple of nations
we would compete withon the regular, you know,
And like at that timeand half pipe,
like Finland was all overthe map where it was like
all these amazinghalf pipe riders.
And now you see a lotof the Scandinavian movement,
kind of like in slopeand in back country and stuff.
(13:40):
And I feel like you really haveto give credit to the riders
because you're so talented, you work so hard,
you're really trying to likebring it up.
It makes more people interested.
So the growth of it is justthe talent of the riders.
It's it's you know,why they're watching?
Because whatare they going to do next?
ChloeGrowing up in the Bay Area,
when when did you startwhen you first
(14:00):
start snowboarding, was it Mammoth or Big Bear?
I started on Mountain Highwhen I was I got my best one.
Yeah. Mountain High is just one.
I know, I know.
So many good mums are actuallyso many, like badass
women came out of there.
Hailey Langland, Maddie Mastro.
That's where I met them.
For the more serious. Yep.
Yeah, I guess so.
No high five there?
(14:21):
No. Well, they do have one. They do?
Yeah. It's just like,not rideable.
It's just like a littlejust dirt ditch, not 25 feet.
There's like,a little bit of transition
and then ice block.
So you actually can'teven go up the walls.
That's how I remember it being.
But so many good memories there.
And then when did you startgoing home?
I started going to Mammothwhen I was ten,
(14:41):
so I was a little lateto the party.
But also that's kind ofwhen I decided that
I loved Hot Pipe snowboardingand I also
love Slope at the time too.
I think I competed onboth tells about 14, so
I was kind of able to doboth there
and Mammoth has such greatpark, great parks and yeah.
What is your favorite sportbesides snowboarding?
(15:03):
I think. I think I knowwhat you're going to say.
Yeah, I just got a horserecently, so I love you know,
I thought she was going to sayI had no idea
what you were going to say.
Yeah.
Say, how is your horse doing?
He's good.
I was just tellingDingo earlier, he got injured,
so unfortunately,he's in rehab in Temecula.
I need to go visit him soon.
(15:23):
But he's so cute.
I see thatyou bring your dog along
to hang out with the horse.
What's the. What's his name?
Momo. My mom? Yes.
What? What? Who's.
Who's the leader of the pack?
The dog of thehorse? Definitely the dog.
They don't.
Well, my dog justdoesn't like horses,
so I don't knowif they'll be able to hang out
anytime soon.
I've tried,but I just don't think
they're going to get along.
(15:44):
My horse is just so curiousthat he wants to be friends
so bad,but I'm scared that my dog
is going to bite him, right?
Yeah.
So I'm going to say my dogoccupy Pluto.
What about your favorite sport?
My favorite?
Besides,snowboarding is surfing sick.
Yeah, I love surfing so much.
And then closely closethat is skating.
(16:07):
I mean, I grew up skatingand then I recently fell in love
with surfinga couple of years ago
and follow the tour, keep upwith all the videos and stuff,
and just like watchingthe girls progression in those
sports has been so insaneand gets me so hyped.
Where's your favorite surf spot?
I'm not tellingyou that I love the tattoo.
Yeah, of surfing, right? Yeah.
(16:31):
It's prettyshocking in New Zealand.
Yeah, it's for sure.
A little shock, you know, It'spretty isolated.
So when you gosurfing down there,
especially in the South Island, there aren't
a ton of people around, which makes it super sick.
But then you're also isolatedin away from how safe?
Like there's a sharkin the water and stuff.
So it's pretty scary stufffor both you to I mean, probably
(16:55):
a little bit separately, but itit all kind of happened,
you know, around the same time.
I think you bothhave had to deal with
the limelight, but not justfor industry limelight.
You know,I think you've both dealt
with the limelighton a very high level.
How have you, Chloe?
How was thatadjustment of being Chloe
(17:15):
Kim, the snowboarder too, thenChloe Kim Red Carpet events.
Chloe KimFace of Nike, Chloe Kim
cover of all these magazines.
How have you adjustedto that type of lifestyle?
It was definitely a bigadjustment in the beginning.
I definitely wasn'texpecting all of that
from snowboarding, but now I see it
as such an incredibleopportunity to continue
(17:36):
just spreading the lovefor snowboarding and
getting people really into it.
Because even when I amat all these events
and all these campaigns, like I'm Chloe Kim,
the snowboarder,and I think that's so powerful
and I think I love that, you know, in doing those things,
even though it's not directlylike snowboarding, snowboarding,
but I'm able to, you know, continue to share and spread,
(17:58):
you know, what snowboarding is all about
through these things.
So I'm grateful forthose opportunities for sure.
What's one of the craziestevents you've been to like?
You're like,what am I doing here?
craziest outfit.
my gosh.
I don't even know.
I mean, even like going tothe US VS is so crazy
because you're like,hanging out with
the most, you know, about usathletes in the world,
(18:20):
just like sitting next to them.
I went to like this Elton Johnparty recently
that was pretty sick.
it's just kind of wild.
I definitely get impostersyndrome.
Like, I feel like I shouldn'tbe there, but it's cool.
The food's good.
That's all I ask for That order.
I like what you said about, you know, being Chloe Kim
the snowboarder, Right?
(18:41):
That's.
There's really somethingthat says that.
That you are there, but you're there because of
what you've done for your sportand then being able
to push your sport.
And I thinkI think it's changed a lot.
You know, I was there, watchedDanny get his first Olympic
silver medal, and that was when Ross Powers,
DannyJJ swept the podium for wrong.
It was the first podium sweepfor the United States
(19:02):
in 52 years, something like six years,
I think some 56 years.
Four years.
Not bad.
We didn't even know we had done.
We were like, well, you did good,
you did good, you did good.
People were like, No,you guys, like, made history.
We're like, Yeah, but we did good, you know, like
that was it's snowboarding.
And that'slike the coolest part about it
(19:22):
is that we canreach these accolades
and none of us really startedsnowboarding thinking like,
I'm going to go partywith Elton John one day.
He's like, No, I'm going to goget on a helicopter in Alaska,
or I'm going to beliving in Mammoth, you know,
or hanging out with George Bush.
The coolest thing Danny ever didwas he got George Bush to sign
a George Bush bobblehead.
(19:43):
No, his own bobblehead.
Yeah, at his house, the White House
And I went through securitywith only a Sharpie
in the bobbleheadin the airport.
It's kind of like airportsecurity going through.
They were just like, all dying last.
But I think it'sbeen important over
time to have those momentsand to be able
to keep pushing the sportand pushing the sport to limits.
(20:06):
YouTube being half pipe riders.
And, you know, Danny, you were kind of
the first person to linkback to back to the eighties.
And at that time it was sucha huge step in a way
where people were like,Holy shit.
Like what iswhere do we go from here?
And now in back to back 1080s,not even going to get you in
to qualifying for any event.
(20:28):
Well, it depends on howbig you go with those 1080s,
but I think, you know, itwas crazy to see a level where
it was like everyonekind of saw the ceiling.
And for me I was like, you know, like
I just want to do good,so I'm going to do more.
And then I remembergoing back to after,
like my first scenariowent back to the U.S.
Open and I was like, Well,I kind of want to win again.
(20:49):
And I don't think like thatlast one's
going to do it in my mind.
So I'm like, why not do two of them?
And then people are like,What are you doing?
And now you look at likethe level where it's like,
Holy shit,Like we're seeing back to back
triple flips we're seeing.
I mean, there's beensome history
made over here at this tablewhere my spin count
has been completely broken byChloe in the last six months.
(21:14):
Yeah.
Thing I love about Chloe too,is you go so big and you make it
look so effortless.
And the style you bring is like.
It's, it's, it's it's it's like.
It's like watching artbeing made, and it's.
I think that it's awesometo watch you progress.
And I hate it when youtake time off because it's.
It's not as funwithout you in there
(21:35):
I think you knowI think I think like
getting as I have grown upand then, you know,
doing all these contestsand stuff, I kind of started
seeing snowboarding as likeit's truly an art form
and everyone's writing is,you know, their own expression
of art and we use, youknow, our boards and our grabs
and our bodies as art.
(21:56):
And I think that'sthat's really cool.
Even when you watch someonego down the groomers, like,
I can always tellwho's writing just on how,
like where their hands are, like the way they're turning.
You know, I could spot Zoefrom a mile away
if I just saw her right downbuttermilk. Right.
And I think that's really cool.
That is cool. So for you, after that
Olympic medal, how was itgoing back to New Zealand?
(22:19):
It was pretty show,to be honest.
I mean, straightafter winning the Olympics,
I went straight to bold faceand competed
in natural selectionand kept my season going.
Filming in the back countrybecause,
you know, COVID was around, but we had crazy quarantine
like two weeks in a hotel.
So, yeah, I didn't make it homeuntil a couple of months after.
(22:42):
By that point, everyone hadforgotten about it.
No, that's a lie.
So I think you were the firstin, in, in in that stature,
I think to bring homea gold medal to the country.
Yeah. Yeah.
In the Winter Olympics, it wasit was pretty crazy,
to be honest.
Like I looking back, it'sjust mind blowing.
Like,just like everyone's reaction
(23:04):
and all the lovefrom everyone back home.
And yeah, that's crazyto think that it's it's
we're X games, you know, we'rebeing I remember coming here
when you were competing rightthere.
There was no scaffolding.
There was no nothing.
I had a spray Canada stenciland I was walking around
the bottom of the half pipespray painting
people with grenade logos.
(23:27):
And we used to have we hadour dog up here for a while.
yeah, Big Vern,Big birds out of X-Games.
But the evolution of this,it's it's like no other.
It's, it's like the,the excitement around X Games.
Britney, this is your second X games.
It's my second X games.
You came up to meand she said, Happy X
and I like that at the X Games.
(23:48):
At the X Games.
I mean, yeah,have the X Games, everyone.
This is cool. Yeah, this is from last year.
We were at the limelight.
This is we stepped it up.
I made some other line.
Yeah, it'sgood and I know some people,
but what about you didn't gobecause this is
you've probably beento more X Games than all of us
in a row.
(24:08):
Yeah. Yeah.
You're Mr. X Games.
We can't even track you down.
You text me back later, like to today.
You're like, well,I brought you here at 15.
I don't think you ever left.
We were trying to do the mathwith that.
With Brandon and CraigMcMorris. Yeah, they.
somebody really just went downbig time.
If I jump in.
Yeah, that'sbecause it looks like ski
(24:29):
practice is going onthe hop up directly behind us.
And then to the left, you have either big air
or slopestyle going on thatbig it just looks big.
Zoe Yeah, it's pretty huge.
70 plus feet ahead.
So if it's 70 plusfeet, how far you travel. And
I think 70 feet, I don'treally know how it works.
(24:51):
We didn't meters in New Zealand, you know,
we have two meters. Yeah, but it's a pretty big jump
and the landing super long.
So you can go really big.
I know a couple of weightwent down on it. Yes.
They couple, four teens fromthe girls were being thrown.
So yeah, it'sgoing to be pretty crazy.
How do you know.
Like I used to commentatesnowboard events
(25:12):
and it was pretty simplebecause you didn't
have to count all these spins.
How do you know?
Like if you don't know,I like what I've been.
I was watching the locks open, and if you don't know
the athlete or the rider thatbecause if you know the rider,
you kind of know what tricksthey're going to do. Yeah.
So I find it easy.
If you don't know the riderof the ski, you find
it hard to calculate or watch.
(25:34):
Do you guys have troublewatching yourselves ourselves?
No, not yourselfwatching other people.
yeah. yeah.
And counting the roads.
Yeah. Yeah. I've no idea.
I mean, I know whata Triple Coke looks like.
And then if it's anymore than that, I just guess.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Based on, like, the reactionfrom people around me, I'm like,
(25:55):
maybe that's never been donebefore.
Yeah, but it's so hard to count, especially watching skiers.
I genuinely never know whatthey're doing in the word.
Never get, never, never get done before.
Gets used a lot now. Yeah,I think that's a progression.
Do you guys at some pointwish we could go
backwards, but like, just stay still for a minute?
Yeah, it the man.
(26:20):
We're going to talk a littlebit of predictions here soon.
I predict you win gold.
That's my prediction.
I don't really see it goingany other way.
So let's go to women'ssnowboard slopestyle
and let's let's havesome predictions right now.
that's such a hard question,Chloe, what do you reckon?
(26:44):
well, you're always looking.
You're always my top pick.
Wheneveryour name is on the status,
I'm like, always got this.
Like, whatever.
I'm just going to wait.
So, you know,I got proven right,
But right now, I don't know.
Kokomo is killing it,that's for sure.
Test offensive.
(27:04):
I don't know.
I just think.
I have no idea.
Yeah, I have no idea either. I'mthere. All my friends.
I can't really say said. Yeah.
Damn.
I could say so many things.
Like Tucker has doneback to back twelves.
She could bring it into this,of course,
which would be insane.
(27:25):
Mia has the most insanetrials ever.
And then can back it upwith a 14.
And I mean,she hasn't gotten an X Games
medal yet and she she's duefor one for sure.
So it's pretty hard.
What's more important?
you know, obviouslyit starts with the rail line
and then the jump line.
(27:45):
What's, what's more importantin the run, or is it
something that always kind ofhas to flow together?
Definitelyall has to come together.
just clean, fluid style, but also hitting those like
getting up, linking the tensewith the lines of the towels.
and yeah, justpeople are adding their own
(28:05):
individual flairto their runs as well.
Like, you seeJamie did that for so long
and it was so excitingto watch her ride,
and that's why she alwaysended up on top and like,
yeah, you kind of have to justface the whole thing together.
It looked like this one herefor especially this course,
because it is so crowdedwith rails like right up front
where you have so many options.
How hard is it to likekind of pick a rail line
(28:28):
that you feel like confidentin getting,
you know, like equal timewhere jumping
you get to practiceso many times.
But I feel like with Railsit's always such a bummer.
Like when there's like thatlittle rail come
off early and you're like, yeah, for sure.
It's sohard to pick a rail line,
especially one that you thinkwill be consistent
enough to go on a run.
And with this course this year, there's a lot of like transfers.
(28:50):
So I think we'll be seeinga lot of people
like going for those transfersand trying to get some set
tracks on them.
But they're also harder, you know, like harder to
make look goodand find the flow.
So yeah, I've seen a coupletracks go down in practice
the last couple of days.
so yeah, that'll bea, that'll be a factor.
Do you have a favoritelike go to rail trick
(29:11):
in your line that you knowyou're going to get like solid
Mine was a cab to 70.
Yeah.
I was like I could do this onany gap two down or anything.
Yeah, I love a back runtoo, to be honest.
Like, just I'm so good f back.
One, two.
there you go. Yeah.
Q70. Ah, yeah. Wow.
Yeah, yeah.
If I'm ridingand I'm not feeling dry,
if I do one of those, it'lljust put me in a good mood.
(29:33):
You know, guys, wehave Chloe, Kim and Zoe
Zidansek in it.
I always get mixed up therebecause I want to say it now.
I got the reason I'm one.
Yeah,That's your mom's maiden name.
Yeah, I love that.
And that's why you keptrunning it? Yeah, for sure.
That's so cool.
I mean, it's really annoyingto say and really annoying
to have to write downwhen you're filling out
a form. But I love it.
(29:55):
Yeah. And I believe your mom'swatching right now.
Live from New Zealand.
No. Yeah. Hi, Mom.
I don't know where your dad is.
Your dad supposed to rollthe set at some point, but,
yeah, maybe he got a little lost.
Yeah, he's on his best behavior.
Maybe security wouldn'tlet him through.
You know what I saw thismorning? Which was so cool?
We have shuttle bussesrunning to and from the hotel.
Not going to say where.
So people don'tbombard our hotel,
(30:16):
but the shuttlewas a little like late today
and Anika was out thereand they'd been like 20 minutes.
And I said somethingto your dad.
Your dad called, you ranup, got the car keys,
and then drove out hereso she could not miss practice.
Yeah. And I was like, super dad.
Yeah, he.
Dad, like youboth have super dads.
Yeah.
Yeah.
(30:37):
Well, it takes great parents.
Yeah.
To get to the mountainand start boarding early.
I feel like anyonein your line of work,
you have to havethat supportive system
because your parents, they're putting a lot.
I mean, do they worry at allwhen you're, like,
attempting these bigger tricksor they're just.
Yeah, for sure.
And when you were youngerand you were like,
okay, I want to go pro, were they just like, okay.
(30:59):
Or yeah, full support for it actually.
So inside I'm like, I'mso grateful for my parents.
They would drive me upand down the mountain
that was like 40 minutesaway in New Zealand.
Take me back down forlike the last hour of school
or whatever.
Make sure I get in just likea little bit of education.
So yeah, you really it'sbeen really awesome
(31:20):
to have a good support system.
And yeah, my parents, yeah,I feel like my,
my parents and I,we kind of learned together
they knew nothing aboutsnowboarding,
snow, sports in general.
So we kind of learnedas we went,
so like, even when I went pro,we didn't know that like
I was pro. Yeah. Or anything.
We were just doingwhat you love.
So we're just kind of like, happy to be there, you know,
(31:42):
just like, enjoying the rideand it's crazy how,
how far we've come.
But Dad definitely getspretty nervous
when he watches medrop in every run.
He's like,Are you good? Are you okay?
Like, does anything hurt?
Do you need anything?
But I just lovehaving this support,
which is why I alwaysbring them with me
into every contestthey go to because
it's just nice having themaround a little piece of home.
Yeah. And they're here rightnow. Right?
(32:03):
Yeah, Both of them.
It must be so cool.
I saw you post a picture.
You know, both of youhave billboards all over town.
There's Boston.
Billboards X Games,billboards, bus, billboards.
As I saw you take a picture.
It must be so cool.
It must be such a proud momentto them.
And especiallyputting in the hard yards.
You know, it'snot easy to have to have a kid
(32:24):
and and be full supportivefrom such a young age.
It's like people get to seethe glorification of it.
The sponsorships,these big events.
But pre then it was a lotof driving up
and down the mountains.
Yeah managing schooltime, figuring out this
and I think a lot of peopleforget that
the parents kind of devotetheir lives to it.
Even your mom, your mom moved to Mammoth?
(32:45):
Yeah,I moved to Maine with my dad.
We still like we will take turnsof all of our different families
in New Jersey, like doingthe Little USA Stays
and they would just take fivedifferent kids each weekend
and the parents would liketake Thursday.
It's awesome.
Guys, We gotsome new events this year.
where we at right here.
Knuckle hawk forwomen's is in for snowboard
and women's ski.
(33:09):
Are you guys being a fanof the knuckle hawk.
Yeah yeah. Big fan. Yeah.
It's pretty crazy to watch.
It's scary to watch. Yeah.
The guy that brought mefrom the airport to the hotel
was sayingit's his favorite event.
And I thinkthat for a lot of people,
I think we have toto to be credit.
We credit Marcus Cleveland.
Is he the one that kindof progressed knuckle hawk?
(33:30):
Am I wrong?
I would say so, yeah. Yeah.
And then Deb really put iton the map where I feel like
it's a cool eventwhere you can watch
and like somebody is going tojust create something at it.
Like, Yeah, in 30 minutes.
Yeah, exactly.
Like, I don't see these peoplereally practicing this
as much or like, just out in the normal field.
Yeah.
And now we're going to startseeing people
just flying off knucklesdoing like, new tricks.
(33:51):
Never been done, correct?
Yeah, but correct meif I'm wrong, and it goes back
to the The Spectator,I think it's more relatable.
Right.
It's very hard to watchsomebody do a 1440
and be like, I could do that.
Or somebody go, youknow, you help me
out of a half pipe ago.
Yeah, for sure.
(34:11):
And not lot it'snot saying they can everyday
person can do the tricksthat we're seeing in
knuckle hawk butyeah it looks like it
it looks like some of youmay be able to do by accident.
Just goingway too fast in the mountain.
Yeah you're like, Oops, Whoa!But it's exciting.
The fans get into it.
That's crazy to watch.
I rode by him today, bro.
(34:33):
Underneath him,he rides like a 117.
It looks like he's ridingthe long ball out there.
Yeah, Yeah.
Every year his board gets, like, 20 centimeters bigger,
which makes doing those tricksa lot harder.
Does it? Yeah.
I think that's kind of likepart of the style of.
Right?
Like, I'm going to do reallytech rail tricks on a toboggan
(34:54):
the size of two snowboards.
Yeah, we're going to.
We're going to switch shipsfor a second.
And let's talkmen's snowboard slopestyle.
Let's talk. Ready?
One of our family here,a monster.
He's kind of the people'schamp. Your fan already.
I love.
And I actually met himfor the first time at Youth
Olympics.
Youth Olympics? Yes.
What's a youth Olympics?
(35:15):
It's like baby Olympics.
I think it's going downright now in Korea, actually.
Really? Yeah. So it'salmost like a junior world's.
Yes. What do you.
What was that for me, Danny?
Well, it's like the next level.
So I think he's like the agegroup between, like 14 and 16.
Yeah.
And all over the world, and it's like,
a little bit more limited, but with, like,
the whole really coolopening ceremonies,
(35:35):
closing ceremoniesand like, more limited,
like entry fieldwhere you got to, like, qualify.
That's so cool.
Yeah.
And it's going on right now.
Yeah, right now.
But I remembermeeting Ronnie there
for the first timeand it's so cool
because I rememberjust being so mesmerized
by his style and his writing, and it's cool that, you know,
(35:57):
he's out herenow doing the same thing
at these bigger eventsand getting all that recognition
that it's so crazy he deservesbecause he's so sick.
Yeah.
If anybody's having fun outthere, more fun than anybody,
it's, it's him, you know.
And yeah, I get it.
It definitely it's a job.
But then you also rememberwhere you come from,
and he's still thatlittle kid that's just so stoked
(36:19):
at any moment to be on hill.
he's just got likethe biggest bag of tricks.
And sometimes you don'teven know where it comes from.
I mean, like all of his like, backside he'll, like,
take off and just it'spretty incredible.
Yeah. Like he bounces around.
Kind of like a rabbithaving fun.
Yes. He's somewhat of seven.
The fact that he can do tricksand you don't even know
(36:41):
what it's called like from funtale book like switch
from Flip back to aboutdo you know what
what I'm talking about thathe did it was insane.
yeah like where he like pivotsand then, like bounces back
in. Yeah.
Yeah.
Like he's I mean, he'ssomeone that I would love
to go snowboarding within, like, a very small park.
Yeah, not like a giant jump.
Even though I, he would ride itand it'll be fun to watch,
(37:03):
but it's more about like whathe creates on his snowboard
with, like, out of,you know, the smallest amount.
Yeah.
I'm really excited to see himright this week
I think he had last year offwith an ankle injury.
And so back this year, like riding the slopestyle
course again,it's pretty exciting.
Let's talkmen's snowboard slopestyle.
It looks like practiceis going on right behind us.
(37:26):
A few a few injuries there,a lot of injuries this year.
But I guess that just comeswith the territory, right?
unfortunately,Marcus Cleveland's out.
Young Dusty Hendrix is out, which it sucks.
You want to seeyou want to see all these.
You want to seeeveryone together.
You want to seethe field stacked
and you want to see itspans riding.
(37:47):
But Spenceriding with a broken rib.
my God.
You have a lot of ribs, right?
It's just floatingaround in there.
Yeah. no, I'm makinglight of it. That's.
That's definitely not painful, but more for sure.
And Flores is here.
I saw McMorris yesterday.
(38:09):
McMorris is here.
All right, here'sa good one, guys.
Best slopestylerider of all time.
Who's your.
Who's your pick?
Jamie Anderson.
Yeah, I'm going to go withJamie Anderson.
Jamie, Guys, guys,Jamie, Jamie, Anderson, Jamie,
Jamie.
All round, guys.
It has to be Mark Fisher.
(38:30):
Mark I mean, I got.
Mark Yeah.
Mark I mean, I want to saysomething to be different.
Listen, it's it's hard.
It's hard to it'shard to look past it. Yeah.
And then you, you say thatand then you look at
how difficult ishe still never won
a gold medal at the Olympics.
Right.
And it's what we watched himgo through last year
and I watched him limp offand but it's he for
(38:54):
however many yearsnow, has come here and shown up
or busted or almost diedand then gone through rehab
and come back.
And he's still hehe innovates the sport.
But that that's a testamentlike watching the last Olympics.
How coldwas it at that last Olympics?
And that's what I don't thinkpeople really understand.
You know,we are talking about off air
(39:15):
about Nigelin the Summer Olympics and and
and how hot it was in Japan.
But how cold was it in China?
It was really cold.
And I even think Koreawas really cool, too, in 2018.
But yeah, Beijing was rough.
I mean, you'd go outsidefor 5 minutes
and your eyelashes are frozen, your hair is frozen,
(39:36):
you just can't leave.
But luckilythey had a warming up for us
up top and I practicallyjust lived there.
Lived in the warming hot.
Yeah, I was there all the time.
This is a little differentfor obviously you want a hot
ice piped, right or not icy,but you want it to be.
But my question is going backto jumping,
landing on a hot pack icelike that really hurts, right?
(39:59):
Yeah, it really hurts.
And it's pretty hard as well.
You needed likedig in your edge to and get in
when it's icy.
You might not get it, you know,And this goes back to it I
think there was controversy onit goes back to the rotations,
but there was a bitof controversy on a boot grab
that happened at the Olympics.
We all familiar with that.
Yeah.
I mean it's, it's the judgesare in a tough position
(40:23):
and especially for slopestylehow for example, I think Renee
sometimes gets under judged.
You see getting on the job.
Why is she getting on the judge.
my God, that's a heavy question.
Sorry, that's a hard one.
I don't know.
I it's the judges for sure.
Like they make this decision.
At the end of the day,I can't speak for them, but
(40:46):
I mean, it's a subjective sport,you know, like it's
people's opinions.
And I could say I thought thisperson should have won, but
everyone else saidthis person should have won.
You know, it'sone of those things
and everyone loveswatching Rene ride.
And I think that's that's why wethink you get so underscored.
But yeah, we'll just haveto see what happens this week.
(41:09):
I think, you know,Zoe really hit on
the head is likewhen you watch snowboarding,
you fall in lovewith people's styles and like
even when they land a run, sometimes you're like,
you put ten more points on itin your head.
Yeah.
And I think, you know, I thinkthe level of snowboarding
truthfully has gotten so highwhere I don't know
if the judges capabilityof their own writing levels
(41:29):
was actually at that level.
Whereas likeif you have never tried
any double flips on your own,how can you justify
what's a harder triplebackside Frontside
Tokyo triple right wherethe level is just like
this insane, you know, technical zone where it's like
it's kind of tricky.
(41:50):
So you have like yourfavorite tricks.
And I thinkthey need to actually go out
there and hit an air baga little bit more.
I think all of these judgesshould have to go
to an air bag campand try some of these triples
seriously to be like, okay, and then be like, now
grab in between your board.
Okay.
Was that hard?
Okay, nowgrab your boo in your board.
(42:11):
All right. That wasstill difficult, right?
So maybe don't take it too hard.
I don't know.
Okay.
I love your opinions.
Yeah. Let's talk.
Ben, Snowboardhalf pipe real quick.
A you moulins. He's run,he wins.
Is that is that wherewe're at or is or is there
(42:33):
I mean it'sthe level's really high
you know is up therehe's created this What are we.
What are weofficially calling this
like MC Twist river he's doingI haven't heard any names
around besides a mic switch.
Mic twist, pull back. Yeah.
Kind of be what it is.
A rewind.
It's like though I love wasn'the was doing it last night
(42:54):
I was like,my God I'm so secret.
But Scott he is definitely,I would say, the most balanced
as far as likespinning all directions.
Where you move is definitelyone of the most technical
frontside and amplitude strong.
So it's definitely a tough oneon the judges, you know, I mean,
they want to see variety, but also you got to reward
(43:16):
whoever is going 18feet out the whole way.
And last night you practice ispretty wild to watch
a human's little brotherKaiju drop in
and do like a 25 foot method.
Yeah, Chi Shu is onone bull said Huge bull said.
So fun to watch.
Those guys are definitelypushing the limits
at a you triplelike when he doesn't
and pulls it off which he doesmost of the time now it doesn't
(43:39):
you would think you wouldthink it would look awkward.
It doesn't at all.
It actually looks stylish.
Does that does that.
What I'm trying to sayis back in the day, I think
even yourselfand Shawn would be judged upon
your runs.
Do you feel likejudges are still looking at it
as you'rebeing judged by your own runs
(44:01):
or you're being judged by what'sgoing on in the competition,
which is a tough question.
I mean, I think definitelylike they're judging
what's going onin that moment for sure.
But it's really hardbecause they haven't done
some of these tricks.
So how do they knowhow hard it is?
I think a human's gottenthe triple quite a few times
and now there's like this.
(44:23):
I think the number factorcomes in a little bit.
We're like,okay, on paper it's a 14,
but reallyit's like a triple court.
And then you seea lot of double fought teams.
But we all knowI mean, watching a you
over the last year, like there'sstill some more in the tank
and he's definitelyhas like an MVP that I
know he wants to break outReally.
(44:44):
yeah I haven't heard about this.
Really You dropping some hair?
I mean, I'm not saying it's likegoing to happen tomorrow,
but I think it could happentomorrow. Wow.
But I definitely know thatwatching him in the bag
over and over again, that there's definitely
a little bit more flavorto add. It's not a four flip.
They go, it's not. No, is itMC Twist, River Vert River
(45:08):
It is, you know.
Is it?
I mean, I don't I'mjust saying that
it really doesn't matter.
Everyone's never been donebefore is right.
It's we have a night event,we have one half pipe,
we have that 40 minutesand it's like whoever
pulls it outin that very moment,
that's the most importanttime. That's a good question.
(45:30):
Actually not Will not goodpoint. You just put up their
three runs or jam session.
Jam session every time.
Yeah. Is that crazy?
No, I don't think so.
In half pipe slopestyle,I would say three rounds.
Yeah. I kind of the gym sesh.
It's more fun.
Like you're always moving,you know, there's
no like waiting period.
(45:52):
So that's kind of hard whenyou're just sitting up there
for 2030 minuteswaiting a jam session format.
At what point do you put downyour run at any point?
That's the thing.
It's likeif I lay on the first one,
great, I could keepprogressing and I have
so many opportunities todo something
that's never been done before.
I put on the best runI've ever done in my life.
And likeX-Games is kind of the place
(46:12):
I want to do that, you know?
I like that.
Now, judges, again, I'm nottrying to rip on the judges.
I hope they're not listeningwhen we get in trouble.
But thejudges scoring are. Are they?
I've seen it happen before.
Some people come out first runand do something amazing.
Are you going to geta higher score doing it first?
(46:34):
Run out the gate?
Or are they going to say, hey,we got to see
what the field is doingbefore we score
those high scores?
But apparently the judgescome a little earlier
and watch practice.
okay.
So so so notjust post deal, apparently.
So you're not supposed to then?
I don't think so.
I thinkthat's like a thing, though.
(46:56):
Yeah, because think about it.
There have been timeswhere people are put down
crazy run than their first runthem just go like 97th.
Yeah,well that's definitely a thing
like in the judging format.
Like if say you're the firstperson to drop and you do
the most ballistic run, they have to leave room
in case someone does more.
So at that point, like you may just get an 80
and then the rest of the fieldcould be like fighting
(47:17):
for what is 80 to 90.
But you'resaying that it's better
to do it in your last run,not last year.
You're number Put it down.
I've seen you'rethe first person to draw
and you'regoing to lay your hammer.
I'm telling you, your score is not going to be
what it deserves.
But I do thinkeverybody has a safety run.
You know, like I mean, youyou kind of put down
(47:38):
a more mellow version of your onthe first run.
Get that and what want to becaught and beady don't
what do you don't don'tdo you in bed first run
Yeah no you don't landit your first run
you get to try it.
Yeah you know.
Yeah. Just sayingit looks beautiful outside
right now guys.
I love when the sun sets, the lights come and
(48:01):
everyone, it's just like,majestic.
I feel like there'sno other place in the world
that's sitting right hereand watching it all unfold.
I think we gotsome good questions for you.
Questions each and ask them.
All right.
So in the chat, they said, what's the next bucket list
trick for Chloe and Zoe?
How big is big and howcrazy can crazy really get
(48:23):
as little of the tuna?
And I'm no great answer.
I mean, I'mnot competing this year
and I feel likeI'm just going to jinx it.
But I mean with the rightwoman, so winning is going
big and slopestyle.
I would to do Triple Coke.
That's like my next big trekthat I would love to
cause. Yeah, compromise.
Put one down.
And I love Lori Burns.
(48:46):
So yeah, that's the dream.
When are you going to start?
When are you able to starttraining again?
It's looking like anotherlike three weeks.
But with the injury I have,it's a bit of bone bruising,
so might be a little bitlonger than that.
But I'm going to take my timefor sure because,
you know, injuriesthat could linger.
Yeah, for sure.
Okay. Next one.
Any bizarre superstitionswhen getting ready to compete
(49:10):
or anything that youdo to get ready to compete?
Maybe not a superstition,just a prep.
Yeah, Iif I had a really good day,
I like to try to replicatereplicate that day on comp day,
but I am always scaredto jinx myself subconsciously,
so I'll always knock onmy snowboard
before I drop in by myself.
(49:30):
Not superstitious,but superstitious. Yeah.
Yeah, for sure.
I'm kind of the same.
Like definitely have thingsthat I need to do, but
not really, you know, like, it'sjust like things
that happen in the moment.
But for me, it's just breathingbefore I drop in for my run.
I just want to be so presentand like, so in tune with what's
going on around me.
(49:50):
And yeah, that's what I do.
Do you ever feellike an adrenaline
right before you drop in?
Is it so because they askedyou here if you ever feel,
does it ever happenbefore hitting a big jump,
get pent up adrenalinethat doesn't subside
even 2 hoursprior to the trick like does.
You're basically they're askingif your adrenaline drops
or I don't think at X GamesI don't think it ever drops.
(50:12):
You'rejust in a state of adrenaline
for like the whole timeyou're here until finals is over
and you just like, yeah, you go, you go and party or
you going to the next event?
Yeah. Yeah.
You feel thatCome down for sure.
Yeah. Yeah,I'm with you on that one.
Thank you so much, girls.
We love you here. Much energy.
We love cheeringyou on from afar.
(50:32):
Two of my most favorite peoplein the world get healthy.
And let's bring homethat gold medal. Let's go.
Thank you very much. Woo! Woo!
