SPEAKER_01 (00:20):
Well, good morning.
This is Ron Harvey, the VicePresident, Chief Operating

We're a leadership developmentfirm based out of Columbia,
South Carolina, where we spendall of our time helping leaders
be really effective at takingcare of the people that they're
responsible for.
We love doing it.
My wife and I have a backgroundwith the military, 21 years
each.
But we we found another way togive back to our community and
(00:41):
help leaders out of all thestuff we learned in our military
experiences.
And we love it.
So uh, but I'm here today withanother phenomenal guest coming
in from Texas to share theirexperiences, to unpack some
things that he's done well.
And we know what we do.
We don't know what we're gonnaask, but we're gonna talk about
leadership, we're gonna havefun, and we're gonna let you
behind the curtain.
So I'm gonna you know bring Johnin and let him introduce
(01:02):
himself.
He can share whatever he wishesto share.
And I do that for every guest.
Um, they can share what theywant to, talk about what they
want to.
We promote books, we promotebusinesses, we promote some the
things that people are reallydoing.
We use this as an opportunity toshare with you what we have.
So, John, let me get out of yourway, man, and give you the
microphone um as we dive intothe podcast itself.
SPEAKER_00 (01:22):
Ron, thank you.
I'm I'm glad to be here.
And I I love what you're doingwith your with your podcast.
Uh, and I think that youraudience is a lot of your
audience is gonna find whatwe're gonna talk about very
interesting, but some of themwill find it life-changing.
So thank you for thisopportunity.
SPEAKER_01 (01:42):
Yes, yes.
Appreciate it.
Thank you for being here becausewe wouldn't be able to do it
without our guests.
That's sign up and join and wantto be a part of it.
So I want this to be beneficialfor the both of us, but I also
want it to be beneficial for thepeople that listen.
Our goal is just to add valueand make a difference for
someone.
So I want it to belife-changing.
So let me hand you themicrophone as you think about
the work you're doing and thestory that you want to share
with us.
(02:03):
Where would you start at how yougot into what you're doing?
What take us on a journey?
SPEAKER_00 (02:07):
Well, I just give
you my basic story.
Um, when I was 50, I just wasn'tas successful as I thought I
should be.
And I started my career as aCPA, and by the time I got to be
30, I decided I didn't want tobe an accountant all my life.
And so I became an entrepreneurand was in seven different
(02:29):
businesses in my 30s and 40s.
But but Ron, when I hit 50, justnot as successful as I thought I
should be.
And I had really two goals in mylife to make enough money so I
didn't have to work and to findthe woman in my dreams.
And on the money, I always didpretty well as an entrepreneur,
made a couple hundred grand ayear.
(02:49):
But uh, and I know this soundsmaterialistic, but when I turned
50, I just did the math andrealized to have the exceptional
life I always dreamed of, I hadto start netting a million
dollars a year.
And then on the girl at 50, I'dnever been married.
Uh, although I did a lot ofinterviewing.
I gotta say, I did a lot ofinterviewing.
(03:11):
And uh, and so, but at 50, I'mlike, well, okay, how am I gonna
change things?
And a pearl of wisdom comes tome maybe three months after I
turned 50, and it was find thetop book in the world on success
and apply that book literallyword for word to my life.
I'm like, okay, that's a prettygood idea.
(03:33):
So I jump out of bed, do alittle research, and I find to
my surprise that there's onebook that's been read by 150
million people, and that book isThink and Grow Rich.
It's the top book of the worldon success by a factor of 10.
And so I'm like, wow, this isthis is perfect.
(03:55):
I mean, I had no idea that itthis was going to be so clear
that this is the top book, andso off I go to apply it word for
word in my life, and so I buythe book and uh dig into it, and
then I discover the problem,Ron.
It says there's a secret forsuccess, but the author only
(04:15):
gives us half of the secret.
It's on the reader to figure outthe other half, and so I'm
bummed out and I mope around forabout three weeks, and finally,
Ron, one day I wake up and go,John, just man up and figure out
the damn secret.
And and so I immerse myself inthe book and probably read it 20
(04:39):
times over a two-month period oftime, and uh ultimately figure
out the secret and a12-minute-a-day technique to
apply it.
And so I start applying it to anew business I was starting in
the reverse mortgage field, andquickly my income starts
doubling and doubling anddoubling to where four years
(05:00):
later I was making 25 times the200 grand a year I was making
the prior 20 years.
And but but Ron, what was socool was I could see exactly why
it was happening.
I was just playing the game oflife at a higher level, and I
could I could do things I couldnever do before, and I had this
(05:21):
level of control over my lifeI'd never experienced before.
And and so I just becamefascinated that you could take
two key scientific principlesand apply them to your life and
so materially impact yoursuccess.
And so about 10 years ago, Ifinally had enough money so I
(05:42):
didn't have to work, and I uhdecided I was gonna share this
with the world.
And I don't know, maybe maybetwo months after I sold my
company, I met the formerchancellor and president here at
the University of Texas, and Itold him my story, and he says,
Hey, you got to teach this atTexas, and why don't we teach it
together?
(06:02):
And then that evolved to himintroducing me to the athletic
director who said, I want tolearn this 12-minute a day
technique.
And that led to then becomingthe mental coach for the 18 head
coaches.
So that's that's basically mystory.
SPEAKER_01 (06:19):
Wow, wow.
So a lot to unpack.
Thank you for sharing the story, but a lot to unpack.
I want to go back for you, if Ican, John.
You know, you you decide, youknow, for for our listeners and
for me, you know, you workreally hard and you had this
thing.
I by 50, I want I got to 50 andrealized I wasn't where I
thought I should be, or assuccessful as I should be.
Right.
And you knew that you wantedenough money and you wanted to
(06:41):
you wanted to have the woman ofyour dreams.
And everybody has these dreamsof where they should be at at a
certain age.
How do you overcome thatimmediately once you wake up at
50 and realize you're not there?
How do you do it without gettingcaught up in the noise or
feeling like a failure?
What motivated you at 50 to say,Let me do something different?
SPEAKER_00 (06:56):
Well, I'll I'll give
you a little uh uh backstory on
that and you'll you'llunderstand this.
So, of course, at 50 I'm feelingthe scarcity of time, right?
Yes, but there's a littlesomething else going on with me.
Uh my mom was dying ofpancreatic cancer, and so every
(07:17):
day after work I would go and Iwould uh go to the hospital,
love on her, hold her hand, andRon, it was everything I could
do just to hold it together whenI was with her, and then I'd go
in the cold dark hospitalparking lot and cry my eyes out.
(07:37):
And I mean, like for 45 minutes,an hour every night, and this is
going on for like uh eightweeks, and of course, I realized
I was losing my mom and and herlife was was leaving, and but I
I knew there was somethingdeeper uh going on, and what I
(08:01):
realized um maybe not at thetime, but subsequently, was that
I felt like I was letting my momdown with my life.
I mean, my parents gave meeverything, they sent me to
Jesuit High School in in Dallasand sent me to the University of
Texas, paid for everything.
And so I have all theadvantages, but at 50, all I
(08:27):
have is an average life, and Ihated the average life because I
knew I was capable of so muchmore.
And and so I I realized thatwhat was going on was I was
coming to grips with with my ownmortality as my mom was was
(08:48):
leaving this world, and also sawthat I was letting really my mom
and and dad down with thisaverage life I had.
And and you know, in retrospect, that was like rocket fuel and
causing me to go deeper intothinking real rich than any
(09:09):
other person on the planet, andthat's why I was able to figure
out the secret when maybe otherpeople couldn't.
Does that make sense?
Well, go ahead, go keepcontinue, John.
Phenomenal.
And so um I I'm sure what youraudience wants to know well,
what is the secret?
What is the secret, right?
SPEAKER_01 (09:30):
Well, yeah, yeah,
don't give it to them yet,
though, because I mean you'resaying something that's really,
really important.
You've taken a situation whereyou were you were every night
for about eight weeks goingthrough this transition with
your mother, really strugglingand and really being really,
really critical of yourself, butyou turned it into something
positive.
And and I want the listeners tounderstand sometimes, I always
(09:51):
tell people, sometimes in yourdarkest moment is where the
answer shows up at.
Right.
Yeah.
It really is true.
I mean, like you get hit rockbottom, then all of a sudden
this this thing shows up thathelps you realize that okay, I
gotta do something, I can't stayhere.
unknown (10:06):
Right.
SPEAKER_01 (10:06):
So you turned it
into some really positive
energy.
Get there, you realize, okay, Iwake up in the morning, I said,
what do I got to do?
And it gives you this book,Think and Grow Rich.
And you get the book and youbegin to read it, but it wasn't
the it wasn't all the answers inthat book.
What was the challenge for youat that moment?
Like, I read this book, everybody's read it.
(10:27):
This many people, thebest-selling book for it for
figure it out, but the answersweren't there.
How did you get to to becomeself-aware that okay, I gotta do
something else?
I got the book, but I'm notreally implementing it and using
it.
What did you do?
SPEAKER_00 (10:39):
Well, the the fact
that the book says there's a
secret for success, but he onlygives you half of the secret,
yeah, was a tip-off to me that Ihad to figure out the secret.
And yeah, and I'll tell you,Ron, this is something I I bet
you see the same thing.
Um, oftentimes when I I meetpeople, and and let's do this
with your audience.
(10:59):
Let me ask them a key question.
How do you create success inyour life?
Just just think about that.
How do you create success inyour life?
And when I'm in person withpeople, they'll stumble around
uh to give me an answer, and andthen I will repeat back whatever
they said.
(11:20):
And and oftentimes it becomesobvious to me and to them, they
don't really have a way of ofcreating success.
And so the more pertinentquestion then is, well, how's
that working for you?
Well, not so good, usually.
And and what I see is that mostpeople are just winging life,
(11:42):
they don't have a way of doinglife, they just get up every day
and do the best they can, andthat's a problem because we all
have two fundamental problemsthat we have to overcome as
human beings.
The first one is that we areinnately wired for survival,
(12:02):
which causes 75% of our thoughtsto be fear-based and we're
reactive rather than proactiveon our important agenda.
But then the second one is isalso critically important in
that 95% of your daily thoughtsand actions are unconscious.
And just think about that.
(12:23):
Your your actions determine yoursuccess in life, yet 95% of them
are unconscious.
And so when you combine thatwith being wired for survival,
the effect is that when when oureyes open up each morning, we're
innately wired to be fear-basedand reactive, and we're largely
(12:46):
on autopilot uh most of the day.
And so the effect of that is youthink as soon as you get up, you
start thinking about yourproblems.
Now, a lot of this again isgoing on unconsciously, but you
think about your problems thatthat causes you to have negative
feelings.
(13:07):
Those negative feelings createmore negative thoughts, and you
get this in this continualnegative loop, and you have
nothing pulling you forward toyour desired life, and therefore
you recreate um your past overand over again, and that's the
effect of just winging life.
And so, what I have created is a12-minute-a-day way of doing
(13:30):
life.
Wow.
SPEAKER_01 (13:33):
Awesome! So, you
know, we we've kept them in
suspense a little while long, you know, which is good, and I
want them to be in suspensebecause I want people to know
the backdrop of it, you know, the unpacking of how did we get
here, what were the steps, andbecause someone listening to the
show is in that exact sameposition.
They're they're they've turned50 and or they're struggling,
you know, or someone in thefamily that's real close to them
that they feel like they've letsomebody down, whether it's the
(13:54):
spouse or whether it's the kidsor whether it's your parents or
your community, and you'retrying to figure this thing out,
and you're struggling at it.
You haven't achieved what youthought you ought to achieve.
So, John, I would love for youto start dropping in.
What is this 12-minute-a-daysecret?
SPEAKER_00 (14:09):
Well, and and you
know, thank you for not letting
me uh reveal the secret too tooquickly because I think you're
right, it's you got to set it upa little bit, and and uh, but
I'll I'll uh share with you thesecret.
And and it it pertains to backthat that time when I was uh
going to the hospital every dayand crying my eyes out.
(14:32):
And I remember one night inparticular, um I go to the
hospital, see my mom, go in thehospital, cry my eyes out for 45
minutes.
But for some reason, this thisnight felt different.
It was snowing in Dallas, whichdoesn't happen very often.
And so I I get in my car and uhuh start to drive home, and the
(14:57):
big snowflakes are hitting thethe windshield, and so I but I
get home and I'm like, okay, I'mgonna get in my comfy chair and
read uh Think and Girl Richagain.
And again, this is probably the20th time I've done that.
And so this particular night Iread that your success in life
(15:20):
comes down to your dailyactions, the cumulative effect
of your daily actions determinesyour success in each area of
your life.
And I'm like, okay, I buy that.
I never thought of it thatsimply, but I certainly buy
that.
And then, Ron, I I readsomething that really surprises
me.
(15:40):
Uh, the book says essentiallythat 95% of your daily thoughts
and actions are unconscious.
I'm like, huh, that'sinteresting.
And and you know, by now I'm I'mtired, I'm ready to go to bed,
so I wash my face and brush myteeth and put my little head on
the pillow, and and I'm layingthere running, and I can't stop
(16:03):
thinking about what I just readthat that 95% of your daily
thoughts and actions areunconscious.
And I'm like, whoa, wait aminute.
If your daily actions determineyour success and 95% of them are
unconscious, then you don'tcontrol the very thing that
determines your success.
(16:23):
And if you want a higher levelof success, you're gonna have to
gain control over thoseunconscious daily actions.
And that was like an epiphany.
I mean, I remember sitting up inbed and going, whoa, this this
is this is what I've beenlooking for.
Now, I didn't at that momentdidn't fully understand how to
(16:46):
do that, but I'm like, well,it's obvious you got to gain
control of those unconsciousdaily actions.
And then, you know, it sort ofcomes to me.
The the full secret of thinkinggrow rich came to me, and that
secret is what you envision indetail with emotion on a daily
(17:08):
basis is what shows up in yourlife.
And let me say that again.
What you envision in detail withemotion on a daily basis is what
shows up in your life, and whatthat means, Ron, is that you
take your life and you createimmense clarity.
Exactly the person you want tobe, exactly what you want to
(17:29):
accomplish, and precisely howyou're going to achieve your
clearly defined goals.
And so you create that thatclarity and you put it on a
template that I created, whichis now 20 years in development,
but uh, and that this templatehelps you create that clarity,
(17:50):
and then you feed that toyourself each day, either
reading it or listening to it.
And after approximately 21 days, the science kicks in, and what
you're feeding yourself startsshowing up automatically without
thinking.
And three things essentiallyhappen.
First, you feel immense controlover your life.
(18:15):
Well, of course you would.
You're feeding the succinctarticulation of your desired
life to yourself.
Of course, you'd feel control.
Then the second thing youexperience is confidence, which
is a direct result of thecontrol.
And then the the third thing youexperience after 21 days is the
(18:35):
right actions start happeningautomatically without thinking,
and that's essentially how itworks.
SPEAKER_01 (18:44):
Wow, I love it
because you know one of the
things I love to unpack all thetime is as you do it and you see
it, and there's proof ofconcept.
Like this was the answer for mewhen I went to Think and Grow
Rich, and I woke up and I had tofigure out the other part of it
because the reader told youyou're only going to get half
the answer.
Right.
And leads you down the path ofokay, if that's I gave you half,
(19:05):
how do you determine and figureout this the second half of it,
which you've put spent, like yousaid, 20 years in the making of
figuring out how do you becomesuccessful over time and what
does that look like and what'srequired of you?
Um, most I had no idea that 95%of the things that we do are
very unconscious, which whichbegs the difference how we don't
become successful because we'rejust reacting to life versus you
(19:27):
know being proactive for life.
What did you learn on thejourney about about your
journey?
So, mom, you know, momtransitions, you you get some
answers, you get some clarity.
What was the most difficultthing for you as you go through
these steps that to implement?
Because it's easy to say, butI'm sure it wasn't easy to
implement.
What was the hardest for you toreally be become more
(19:48):
intentional about doing thethings that's required?
SPEAKER_00 (19:51):
Well, you know, let
me hit on something that you
just said, if you don't mind.
So you you you said that youdidn't know that 95% of a
person's daily thoughts andactions are unconscious, right?
SPEAKER_01 (20:02):
Yes.
SPEAKER_00 (20:03):
Well, I see that
this all the time.
Now, that is the mostsignificant thing I ever
learned.
And oftentimes I've I I see thatpeople intellectually can
understand it, but they don't doanything about it because
they're not fully connecting thedots.
And I think that the reason isis that I had the benefit of
(20:29):
reading that night that my dailyactions determine my success.
And then I shortly thereafterread that 95% of them are
unconscious.
Well, to me, it's so easy toconnect the dots that that
clearly your subconscious mindcontrols your life.
(20:49):
If if it's controlling 95% ofthe actions which are
determining your success, thisis we're not splitting uh atoms
here.
You know, you just got to gaincontrol of the subconscious
mind.
And and what's interesting ishere's how the human mind works
conscious mind sets yourintentions and it's influenced
(21:12):
by logic.
Subconscious mind controls yourdaily actions, or 95% of them,
and it's only influenced byrepetition.
And and an example is losingweight.
Well, people set the intentionto lose weight based on the
(21:32):
logic of the health benefits.
That's all conscious mind.
But the reason they fail to loseweight is because they're not
influencing the part of theirbrain that controls their daily
actions, the subconscious mind, and it only responds to
repetition.
So if they're not affirming tothemselves, here's my plan for
(21:53):
eating and here's my plan forexercising, those intentions
just stay intentions.
And so that's why that's thepower of feeding the succinct
articulation of your desiredlife to yourself each day, which
includes taking the rightactions.
That's what causes thesubconscious mind to then cause
(22:15):
you to take the required actionsto be successful in your career,
in your marriage, and in yourhealth.
Does that make sense?
SPEAKER_01 (22:23):
It makes a lot of
sense.
And you know, it kind of takesme back to the phrase, and I've
you know, probably have I'veread it several times in
different books where they sayintentions don't change
behavior, actions do.
Um so it kind of takes me backto that phrase of I think a lot
of people will die with greatintentions because they never
took action to make it becomereality.
SPEAKER_00 (22:43):
Exactly.
Well, and and here's what I findinteresting.
So I'm in the success and humanachievement field, and I see
that there is a huge gap in thein the industry, in that there
are so many great strategies andideas on how to be successful,
uh, that I I have a lot ofrespect for.
(23:06):
But we don't need another greatstrategy.
We need to make great strategiesshow up in our thoughts and
actions automatically.
And nobody in the success fieldis teaching what I'm teaching.
Uh, and I feel blessed that thatI can open people's minds that
hey, the problem is not yourintentions, it's it's taking the
(23:29):
actions associated with thoseintentions.
That's the problem, and this isthe solution.
Wow.
Yeah, love it.
SPEAKER_01 (23:37):
So so when you think
about the work that you're
doing, how successfully you'vedone, and it, and it's and it's
and then you benefited from it.
And so you retired and thenyou're back in and you're doing
work and you're helping otherathletes and and and coaches
across the differentdepartments.
What did you what did you findas you help these individuals,
the one of the two things thatthey can implement today?
(23:58):
What's what are two things orthree things that you would
share, John, that that ouraudience can go start doing now
to move away from just thisintention of the next strategy?
What would you talk about?
SPEAKER_00 (24:09):
Well, well, first of
all, you know, I I teach this to
to students and athletes, butalso the other part of my life
is is I license my methodologyto business coaches.
Um, and so uh, but uh but I'llgive you an example of one of
the the things that I teach uhanyone that that learns my
(24:30):
methodology that is sofoundational.
I teach them this idea of deepthinking two times a week, this
idea to just set aside time tothink two times a week.
And of course, this is atechnique the top entrepreneurs
in the world do, people likeElon Musk and Bill Gates.
And and the way it works is Ihave a three-step process where
(24:56):
where you know you you find yournice, comfy place that you're
gonna do it two times a week, and you need to do it in the
morning when you're fresh.
And so the first 10 or 15minutes of the thinking session
is you just write whatever'scome comes into your head.
Then the second part is you askyourself a question, usually
(25:20):
around whatever your biggestchallenge at the moment is, and
that's critical because it makesthe your thinking go deeper.
And then the third component isyou just recap what you you uh
came up with and and also noteyour action steps uh that are
(25:40):
coming from it.
But and and these say thinkingsessions are about 30 minutes
long, but this is like the theopening to proactively influence
the subconscious mind, which iswhat thinking grow rich is all
about.
It's all about proactively andwith intention manipulating the
(26:01):
subconscious mind, and this isthe the opening way to do it.
SPEAKER_01 (26:05):
Yes, awesome,
awesome, and phenomenal
information.
Love it, you know.
And for all our listeners, I'msure they're walking away, you
know, to be able to shift that, which is how do you really put
everything into action, youknow, versus this intention?
I I love that.
So, people that are listeningand watching, if they're
interested in figuring out themodel and learning more from
you, what's the best way toreach out to you?
And is there a website orsomething they can get to to see
(26:27):
more and learn more about you?
How do we reach you and how dowe learn more about you?
I love what you're talkingabout, and you got a program in
place.
SPEAKER_00 (26:33):
Right, right.
Well, I have a special guest uhgift for your audience.
Uh just go towww.themisingsecret.org.
The missingsecret.org.
And I've got a nine-minute videothat fully explains the secret
of thinking grow rich and how toapply it.
(26:55):
And and so um you can get itthat way.
And and I also have a book thatthat came out earlier this this
year in January, which explainsall this methodology.
It's called the missing secret.
And what's particularly powerfulis I have created an AI
(27:16):
algorithm that where a person,if they want to apply this to
their lives, they just uh uhengage my algorithm, they answer
approximately 50 questions, andthen press a button, and 10
seconds later, my template iscustomized to their unique life.
And the power of it is mostpeople like the idea of oh, I'm
(27:41):
gonna create the succinctarticulation of my desired life
and feed it to myself each day.
They like conceptually that, butthey don't really know well,
what do what does he meanexactly the person I want to be,
exactly what I want toaccomplish, and precisely how
I'm gonna achieve my goals.
I'm not sure I understand thatlevel of clarity in each area of
(28:03):
my life.
No problem.
You you just answer my questionson the on the algorithm, and it
does it for you.
It creates that clarity for you.
unknown (28:13):
Wow.
SPEAKER_01 (28:14):
Wow, thank you.
So a gift, as always, I lovewhen the guests come on and they
share something with theaudience as far as you know,
oftentimes, you know, what doyou help to get people started?
So you know, going to thewebsite, going look at the book,

SPEAKER_00 (29:15):
Yes.
Okay, well, you'll you'llappreciate this, Ron.
And this just happened uh two orthree years ago.
So uh I become a grandfather forthe first time, and we go over
to uh my uh stepdaughter's housea day after the little baby is
is born, and we go over there, and I I had coerced my
(29:38):
stepdaughter to name the newbaby after my wife Ginger, and
so we go over there, we're allexcited, and and and there's a
lot of ooing and awing about thebaby, and for some reason they
hand me the baby and they walkaway, and so I'm holding this
(29:59):
precious little.
Little girl and this perfect youknow specimen of life.
And Ron, I start crying my eyesout.
Totally unexpected, but I'm I'mrealizing how precious this life
is.
This this perfect little girl.
And I feel the warmth of herbody in my arms.
(30:21):
And and I am just crying.
And and what I'm realizing isjust how precious her life is,
and how how her success in lifeand her enjoyment of life is
gonna come down to the thoughtsgoing on in her head most of the
(30:42):
time.
And I just pledged at thatmoment that I am going to impact
her thoughts the rest of mylife.
I'm gonna I'm gonna develop mymethodology for to evolve a kid
as they grow up, and then whenthey're adults, they'll do my
full methodology.
(31:03):
But the the message I think foryour audience is that your life
is precious.
Just think about it.
Your life is precious, and thinkabout that when you put your
head on the pillow tonight.
And if you're gonna have theexceptional life, you can't be
winging life.
There's a way to do life, andwhy not you know follow what the
(31:25):
top book of the world on successuh says to do?
So, you know, just appreciatehow precious your life is.
