Matthew, chapter 10.
And he called to him his twelvedisciples and gave them
authority over unclean spiritsto cast them out and to heal
every disease and everyaffliction.
And to heal every disease andevery affliction.
The names of the 12 apostlesare these First, simon, who is
called Peter, and Andrew, hisbrother James, the son of
Zebedee, and John, his brotherPhilip, and Bartholomew.

(00:35):
Thomas and Matthew, the taxcollector, james, the son of
Alphaeus, and Thaddeus, simon,the Canaanite, and Judas,
iscariot, who betrayed him.
These twelve Jesus sent out,instructing them go nowhere
among the Gentiles and enter notown of the Samaritans, but go
rather to the lost sheep of thehouse of Israel and proclaim as
you go, saying the kingdom ofthis heaven is at hand, heal the

(00:57):
sick, raise the dead, cleanselepers, cast out demons.
You receive without paying,give without pay, acquire no
gold, nor silver, nor copper foryour belts, no bag for your
journey, nor two tunics, norsandals, nor staff, for the
laborer deserves his food.
And whatever town or villageyou enter, find out who is
worthy in it and stay thereuntil you depart.
As you enter the house, greetit and if the house is worthy,

(01:19):
let your peace come upon it.
But if it is not worthy.
Let your peace return to youand if anyone will not receive
you or listen to your words,shake off the dust from your
feet when you leave that houseor town.
Truly, I say to you, it will bemore bearable on the day of
judgment for the land of Sodomand Gomorrah than for that town.
Behold, I am sending you out assheep in the midst of wolves.

(01:41):
So be wise as serpents andinnocent as doves.
Beware of men, for they willdeliver you over to courts and
flog you in their synagogues andyou will be dragged before
governors and kings.
For my sake, to bear witnessbefore them and the Gentiles
when they deliver you over, donot be anxious.
How you are to speak or whatyou are to say, for you are to
say or for what you are to saywill be given you in that hour,

(02:04):
for it is not you who speak, butthe spirit of your father
speaking through you.
Brother will deliver brotherover to death, and father's
child and the children will riseagainst parents and have them
put to death, and you'll behated by all.
For my name's sake, but the onewho endures to the end will be
saved.
When they persecute you in onetown, flee to the next, for
truly, I say to you, you willnot have gone through all the

towns of Israel before the Sonof man comes.
A disciple is not above histeacher, nor a servant above his
master.
It is enough for the disciplesto be like his teacher and the
servant like his master.
If they have called the masterof the house of Beelzebul, how
much more will they malign thoseof his household?
So have no fear of them, fornothing is covered that will not

be revealed or hidden, thatwill not be made known.
What I tell you in the dark,say in the light, and what you
are, here, whispered, proclaimon the housetops.
And do not fear those who killthe body but cannot kill the
soul.
Rather, fear him, who candestroy both soul and body in
hell.
Are not two sparrows sold for apenny, and not one of them will
fall to the ground, apart fromyour father?
But even the hairs of your headare all numbered.
If you're not, therefore, youare of more value than many

sparrows.
So everyone who acknowledges mebefore men, I also will
acknowledge before my father,who is in heaven.
But whoever denies me beforemen, I also will deny before my
father, who is in heaven.
Do not think that I've come tobring peace to the earth.
I have not come to bring peace,but a sword, for I have come to
bring peace to the earth.
I have not come to bring peacebut a sword, for I have come to
set a man against his father, adaughter against her mother and
a daughter-in-law against hermother-in-law.
And a person's enemies will bethose of his own household.

(03:32):
Whoever loves father or mothermore than me is not worthy of me
, and whoever loves son ordaughter more than me is not
worthy of me.
And whoever does not take hiscross and follow me is not
worthy of me.
Whoever finds his life willlose it.
Whoever loses his life for mysake will find it.
Whoever receives you receivesme, and whoever receives me
receives him.
Who sent me?
The one who receives a prophetbecause he is a prophet will

(03:52):
receive a prophet's reward, andone who receives a righteous
person because he's a righteousperson will receive a righteous
person's reward.
Whoever gives one of theselittle ones even a cup of cold
water, because he is my disciple, truly I say to you he will by
no means lose his reward.
This is the word of the Lord.
