Pastor Plek (00:11):
Matthew chapter 12.
At that time Jesus went throughthe grain fields on the
Sabbath.
His disciples were hungry, andthey began to pluck heads of
grain and to eat.
But when the Pharisees saw it,they said to him, Look, your
disciples are doing what is notlawful to do on the Sabbath.
He said to them, Have you notread what David did when he was
hungry and those who were withhim, how he entered the house of
(00:33):
God and ate the bread of thepresence, which it was not
lawful for him to eat, nor forthose who are with him, but only
for the priests?
Or have you not read in the lawhow on the Sabbath the priests
in the temple profane theSabbath and are guiltless?
I tell you, something greaterthan the temple is here.
And if you had known what thismeans, I desire mercy and not
sacrifice, you would not havecondemned the guiltless.
(00:55):
For the Son of Man is Lord ofthe Sabbath.
He went on from there andengaged and entered their
synagogue.
And a man was there with awithered hand, and they asked
him, Is it lawful to heal on theSabbath?
So that they might accuse him?
He said to them, Which one ofyou who has a sheep, if it falls
into a pit on the Sabbath, willnot take hold of it and lift it
(01:16):
out?
Of how much more value is a manthan a sheep?
So it is lawful to do good onthe Sabbath.
Then he said to the man,Stretch out your hand, and the
man stretched it out, and it wasrestored, healthy like the
other.
But the Pharisees went out andconspired against him how to
destroy him.
Jesus, aware of this, withdrewfrom there, and many followed
(01:36):
him, and he healed them all, andordered them not to make him
known.
This was to fulfill what wasspoken by the prophet Isaiah.
Behold, my servant whom I havechosen, my beloved with whom my
soul is well pleased, I will putmy spirit upon him, and he will
proclaim justice to theGentiles.
He will not quarrel or cryaloud, nor will any one hear his
voice in the streets.
(01:56):
A bruised reed he will notbreak, and a smoldering wick he
will not quench, until he bringsjustice to victory.
In his name the Gentiles willhope.
Then a demon-oppressed man whowas blind and mute was brought
to him and he healed him, sothat the man spoke and saw, and
all the people were amazed andsaid, Can this be the son of
David?
But when the Pharisees heardit, they said, It is only by
(02:18):
Beelzebub, the prince of demons, that this man casts out demons.
Knowing their thoughts, he saidto them, Every kingdom divided
against itself is laid waste, and no city or house divided
against itself will stand.
And if Satan casts out Satan,he is divided against himself.
How then will his kingdomstand?
And if I cast out demons byBeelzebub, by whom do your sons
cast them out?
Therefore, they will be yourjudges.
(02:39):
But if it is by the Spirit ofGod that I cast out demons, then
the kingdom of God has comeupon you.
Or how can someone enter astrong man's house and plunder
his goods unless he first bindsthe strongman?
Then indeed he may plunder hishouse.
Whoever is not with me isagainst me.
Whoever does not gather with mescatters.
Therefore I tell you, every sinand blasphemy will be forgiven.
People.
(03:00):
But the blasphemy against theSpirit will not be forgiven.
And whoever speaks a wordagainst the Son of Man will be
forgiven, but whoever speaksagainst the Holy Spirit will not
be forgiven, either in this ageor in the age to come.
Either make the tree good andits fruit good, or make the tree
bad and its fruit bad, or thetree is known, for the tree is
known by its fruit.
You brood of vipers, how canyou speak good when you are
(03:22):
evil?
For out of the abundance of theheart your mouth speaks, the
good person out of his goodtreasure brings forth good, and
the evil person out of his eviltreasure brings forth evil.
I tell you, on the day ofjudgment, people give account
for every careless word theyspeak.
For by your words you'll bejustified, and by your words
you'll be condemned.
Then some of the scribes andPharisees answered him, saying,
(03:43):
Teacher, we wish to see a signfrom you.
But he answered them, An eviland adulterous generation seeks
for a sign, but no sign will begiven to it except the sign of
the prophet Jonah.
For just as Jonah was threedays and three nights in the
belly of the great fish, so willthe Son of Man be three days
and three nights in the heart ofthe earth.
The men of Nineveh will rise upat the judgment with this
generation and condemn it.
(04:03):
For they repented at thepreaching of Jonah, and behold,
something greater than Jonah ishere.
The queen of the south willrise up the judgment at the
judgment with this generationand condemn it.
For she came from the ends ofthe earth to hear the wisdom of
Solomon.
Behold, something greater thanSolomon is here.
When the unclean spirit is goneout of a person, it passes
through waterless places, seeking rest, but finds none.
(04:26):
Then it says, I will return tomy house from which I came.
And when it comes, it finds thehouse empty, swept, and put in
order.
Then it goes and brings with itseven other spirits, more evil
than itself, and they enter anddwell there.
And the last state of thatperson is worse than the first.
So also it will it be with thisevil generation.
While he was still speaking tothe people, behold, his mother
and his brothers stood outside, asking to speak to him.
(04:48):
But he replied to the man whotold him, Who is my mother and
who are my brothers?
And stretching out his handtoward his disciples, he said,
Here are my mother and mybrothers.
For whoever does the will of myfather in heaven is my brother
and sister and mother.
This is the word of the Lord.
