Candace invites guests Cassandra Wind and her daughter, Sage, to explore their profound journey through trauma, healing, and growth in this touching episode. From shared experiences of abuse and violence to the powerful transformations facilitated through healing practices, this conversation is a testament to resilience and the unbreakable bond between mother and child.

Cassandra recounts her turbulent past, including physical and sexual abuse, and the strength it took to protect her siblings. She speaks on her path from victim to healer, sharing how martial arts, counseling, and alternative healing methods have played pivotal roles in her recovery. Sage adds another dimension, reflecting on how their understanding of gender and trauma has shaped their perspective on life and family dynamics.

Candace shares parallel experiences, emphasizing her commitment to creating a safe space for survivors. She praises Cassandra's impactful book, Ancient Teachings, New Traditions: A mother's quest to raise an empowered daughter, urging listeners to find hope and courage in its pages.

The episode not only uncovers the deep-rooted cultural taboos around discussing trauma but also highlights the vital importance of open communication, education, and empowerment.

Episode Highlights:

16:54 - So, in my mind, I'm going, this is insane. So, this little thing happened and that sexual abuse is nothing. You do nothing. You have a talk and this is happening. So then he said, "Well, if you don't start crying, I will start beating the littlest one." So, I remember this. They all start screaming, "Please cry."

24:29 - I got this I heard this voice in my head say, don't talk about your story. It's going to be too upsetting for you. Ask them how they how they entice their victims. What methods did they use? And they thought that was much more empowering for me.

47:03 - One of the teachings that I really felt really strongly about that I came across through the Aborigines is they don't see children as anything but another spirit coming in that the community supports so they discover their gift. So, when they're born, they're taught to go explore and figure out what their gift is. And when they find their gift, they come to the leader, and then they tell them between 7 to 9 years usually in this one tribe called the real ones, and then they have a celebration, and they have food and dancing, and the child gets to announce what he's discovered as the gift that no one else in the tribe has to make the whole community better.
