The Washington Capitals opened their 2025–26 season at Capital One Arena but fell 3–1 to the Boston Bruins. David Pastrnak led the way for Boston with a goal and two assists, while Elias Lindholm netted the go-ahead goal early in the third period. Bruins goalie Jeremy Swayman stopped 35 shots to keep the Capitals’ offense in check.
For Washington, Tom Wilson provided the lone goal, tying the game briefly in the third period. The Capitals struggled on special teams, going 0-for-5 on the power play, while the Bruins capitalized on one of their two chances. Goalie Logan Thompson recorded 18 saves, but Boston’s pressure and opportunistic scoring made the difference down the stretch.
