(00:00):
Welcome back to Urgent Care Unscripted.
I'm Barbara Renault'sdirector of operations and business
development for AFCUrgent Care in West Haven.
And this is Mohammad seven and thefranchisee and owner of the is Haven. And
todaywe are here to talk about a very common
(00:22):
topic physical or almost physical.
The question is what is physical?
What happens at and on the physical.
What kind of have a little physical setthat doesn't really have to be at home?
And which of the physical
that do we really performat the urgent care in this table?
That's right.
And I think most importantly, what is covered by insurance and
(00:46):
let's clear that up.
I think there's some confusionwhen it comes to physicals in general.
Yeah.
So let's first definewhat is the physical.
So it's that simple as it may sound.
It's it's it's a little, a routine checkup where you come in
and, and the provider performssome test on you provided patient vitals,
takes your blood pressure, sugar.
(01:09):
And based upon your, conditions,
performs good, perform other tests, and there you go.
That's the, Hold that.
Regular physical.
But then there are differentkinds of physical. That body rolling know.
Exactly.
So not all physicals are created equal.
There are many different typesof physicals.
We can talk aboutthe most common physical,
(01:31):
which is your walnutor your annual physical.
And your physical is just a completewellness checkup.
And that covers everything from vitalsand mental health checkups.
And it usually is covered by insurance,
although that's not always the casewhen it comes to an urgent care.
So they are always covered upat a primary care office.
But some insurances do not cover themat an urgent care.
(01:53):
So definitely callyour local urgent care or us
and we can answer that for youdepending on your insurance.
The second type of physicalare your annual wellness visits.
Those are from Medicare patients andthey are covered under Medicare Part B.
Again, that is covered by insuranceis not always covered at an urgent care.
(02:15):
The third timetype of physical is your dot physical.
So those are for your CDL drivers.
So if you're a CDL drivers driver I'm sureyou're very familiar with this physical.
It is a typically every two year physical.
But it can bethat depending on your medical history,
you might be required to come in
every three months, every six months, every one year.
(02:37):
It's really going to be dependenton a couple of things, like your blood
pressure, your sugar or glucose, and so on.
Video stands for,
yes, commercial driver's license.
Thank you. Mohammed.
The next physical is school physicals.
So those are typically yearlythat the school requires.
And it's to make surethat all of your vaccines are up to date.
(02:57):
We do have them at the urging careand they are not covered
by your insurance, typically not covered by your insurance.
Mostlynot covered by commercial insurances.
So those are your basic health checkups.
You can if you are coming infor your annual physical
and you know that you need a schoolphysical form filled out,
that usually can be doneon the same visit as well.
(03:19):
So just check with your provider againon that.
The next is your sports physical.
So if your kid or you is joining a sportsteam, you might need a physical done
for that to make sure that you are upto par in order to join the team
and make sure that you're not goingto get any of your teammates, sick.
Your next one is your pre-op physical.
So pre-op physicalsreally clear pre operational.
(03:42):
So if you're getting an operationmost likely your surgeon
is going to require that you geta clearance from your provider.
Typically you can come to an urgent careor your primary care doctor.
And we'll be able to clear youfor your physical.
Those usually involve blood work as well,so they are not something
that we can do the same day.
So you come in, you get we get bloodor John, you get sent to the lab.
(04:04):
The lab
gives it back to us with your results, and then we clear you for your physical.
And those are usually covered byinsurance, because they are unnecessary.
So I think we coveredall of the physicals.
And, those are the differencebetween the, you know, health
or health necessary physicals versusyour administrative physicals.
(04:26):
Oh, and I forgot to mentionyour immigration physicals.
So immigrationphysicals are for immigration patients
that are applying for immigration.
Immigration process, whether thatcitizenship or visa or your green card.
And those are also not coveredby insurance.
They are administrative physicals.
They do require vaccinesand they also require bloodwork.
(04:46):
And as you have heard from Bonagura, some of these physicals
are really not annual.
Some of them are required by work.
So you do itone time and the work is required,
for, surgery.
You do it on time.
But then as healthcare becomes the journeyand you want to take care of your health
and you want to be in control, that's where the good comes in.
(05:07):
And you have to be proactive about itand continue to add on to the bill
and come and visit us and those businesseswhich have more physical.
You are trying to perform a few things
that you have to keep in mindas you walk in through the outdoor bodies.
You have to have your,
insurance card.
You didn't have to have your,
(05:27):
photo I.D., you have to haveyour medications that you're taking
and also share
with the provider and in medical historythat you want them to be aware of.
Yeah, absolutely.
And, lucky for you, we can do all those
physicals at our urgent carein West Haven.
Again, like Muhammad said, make sure you bring the correct forms.
A lot of those require paperwork,so make sure you're bringing
(05:50):
those forms with you.
Especially if it's a work physicalor a sports physical or school physical.
They have very specific formsthat they want you to fill out.
So quick breakdown.
Annual physicals are covered by insurance.
Medicare, annual physicalsare also covered by insurance once a year.
Those two are once a year.
Dot physical school physicals, sportsphysicals, integration physicals,
(06:12):
work physicals, pre-employment physicals.
They're not covered by insurance, and pre-op physicals are also,
at the end of the day,our goal is to make it easy for you.
Our goal is to get for, as possible.
And so the whole overall processgoes, smooth.
And you come in, you complete the process,
(06:33):
