(00:00):
Hey, everyone, and welcome to the firstepisode of Urgent Care Unscripted.

(00:04):
My name is Byron Alter, and I am the director of operations
and business development for AFCUrgent Care in West Haven.
And today I'm joined by my co-host,Muhammad. Hi.
Thank you Barbara. And my name is Muhammad Salaam.
I am the franchiseeand owner of the Urgent Care
in West Haven.

(00:28):
This, health care related,
episode series Urgent CareUnscripted has been a long time coming.
We wanted to, addresshead on some of the critical
and most common of questionsrelated to your health care
as it, more important, pertains to urgent care treatments.
And, so we welcome you to join usin this podcast series.

(00:49):
and during this podcast series,we just kind of want to answer questions
that might be a little bit unclearfor patients.
And we're going to cover, things like insurances
and when to go to the emergency roomversus coming to the urgent care.
We're going to talk a little bitabout immigration
physicals and, and much more during, the series.

(01:10):
Before I go into the details, just why are we really doing this?
I mean, as you think about it,how is your one of your biggest assets
that you can ever have in life? Right.
And then when you are sickand you are compromised
mentally or compromised physically, then the cost is involved.
Yeah. Families are involvedin some situations.
And then you have many different choicesto go,

(01:32):
and then you have a different kindof, illness and each
kind of illness might need differentkind of treatment or treatment facility.
So many questions to address and answerand make the right decisions.
What we are trying to do hereis make it as simple as possible.
Make it as simple as possiblefor the most common questions
that you have to face when you arein that situation of making a choice

(01:57):
as to where you're going, how you are getting yourself treated.
Absolutely. And I think that
it can be very
frustrating for patients because they justdon't get clear answers from sometimes
their providers due to time rationingor even their, own insurance companies.
So we're here to break it down for you.
We know that some confusioncan lead to mistrust,

(02:20):
and what we're trying to dois create a trust, a bond
between our bridging careand our community.
So that's, I think, where the podcast came about for us.
Yeah. And I just want to expandon what, Barbara,
that said, it's about two things.
It's about, first of all, it's about youand us creating a bond with you

(02:40):
and having that communicationbetween the patient and us.
This is a beautiful communityin the Haven that we live.
And we want to we want to reach out.
We want to serve the community.
And besides, just, you know, running an urgent care clinic,
we want to give backwhen information is a big,
big weaponin terms of your path to recovery.

(03:02):
We want to make sure that that informationis available to you on your fingertips.
If you can come backand watch this episode and get, questions
answered before you then have to pick upa phone or, or ask someone else.
Yeah.
We just want to be transparent, astransparent as we can with our patients.
So to start, Muhamed, why don't you tell us a little bit
about you, where you began and whyyou're here today for that question.

(03:27):
I was in supply chainrunning, organization supply
chain, for, for large companies.
I had large teams working, for me.
But then at the, at the in my heart,I wanted to always,
always serve peopleand use my skills and knowledge
of managing peopleand leading people to serve.
And with that intent is where we startedwith this urgent care.

(03:51):
This is health care is the, one of the best ways to, pure
way to really, achieve that, that,
that service quality and, and, and within that urgent care is
where we can apply, sense of, quality
sense of serviceand reaching out to people.

(04:11):
So all of that and, along with, our desire to run, an urgent care planet
in a very clean, efficient and caringenvironment and that brought us to AFC.
Yeah.
And my name is,like I said, it's Barbara Rainwater.
I have had a passion for health caresince I could remember.
I have worked as an or withinthe urgent care or health

(04:34):
care operations for a little overeight years now.
I started my careerfully with the full intention of
just being a nurse bedside and just takingcare of patients, and at some point
I became really intriguedby what goes on in the background.
I, I just wanted to make thingsmore efficient,
not only for patients, but also for the staff members as well,

(04:57):
because I understand thatwhen you have a happy staff,
that happy staff will then translatethat care and passion to their patients.
So we really focus on makingor I try to focus on making health
care more efficient and just to make surethat it's a good environment
for everybody that's involved.
And and I think that'swhy Muhammad and I make such a great team.

(05:21):
And we are so lucky to have Barbara here.
Her mentality, her,
core training in process
that's so critical for patientsthat patients want predictability,
patients want, smooth flow
and processthat they can expect when they walk in.
And and by the time that they leave, that is a surprise.

(05:42):
And that's where Barbara is at her best.
And delivering the, the, perfectionand ensuring that the process is
predictable, is, is constant. And
and along with that, I come in
with the desireand with the ambition to serve people,
and make sure that everybody's food, that equally

(06:02):
everybodyis getting the best attention they need.
And there is a certain standard of qualitythat in healthcare
is kind of non-negotiable.
That's always maintained. There is no compromise on that.
So we had a great teamfrom those two perspectives.
Her skills in establishing the processand our desire
and ambitionto maintain quality of service

(06:23):
and then expand on itand make sure that ultimately distributed
equally and carefully, it'sdefinitely a good balance,
and we are here to share our knowledgewith our patients,
our community, and hopefully again, to gain that trust.
So you guys know that you have
a reliable urgent care clinic to come towhenever you need it.

(06:43):
And over the course of next, multiple
episodeswill be covering multitude of cockpits.
Sometimes patients come in and get treatedand still feel like
I didn't get treated, or the treatmentthat was offered was not adequate.
Sometimes patients are sitting at home andwondering, so they go to an urgent care,
or should they go to a, should I go to an emergency room?

(07:05):
Sometimes they're wonderingwith my insurance cover it or not.
What if I get a blood spit?
What if I get denied service? What happens?
What if I lost my insurance card?
So these kind of questions,
we would like to address headon, on this, on these episodes.
So there's, less confusion andand you know, what to do when that time
arises, when you're not following, you know, physically

(07:27):
or mentally challengedand you need some service.
And, those questions are answeredahead of that happening.
Yeah. And we want you to be partof the conversation.
We understand that
we're going to try our bestto answer as many questions as we can.
But if you hear an episodeand you see that there's a question
that we weren't able to answer,we didn't get to,

(07:47):
we are going to have a full episodededicated to just answering questions
that are submitted by the audienceand our listeners, so
you'll be able to email that to WestHaven team at AFC urging Caricom.
We'll also put that emailfor you guys so you can,
get that
information after the episode as well.

(08:07):
And on top of it to make it, really, really easy to send, to make it really
rich with, reliable informationand knowledge will be an expertise for you
when it says a topic of urgent careversus it's, emergency room.
Our medical director also happens to bean ER, physician to the hospital.
Joining us, when it comes to a topiclike insurance, we'll be bringing

(08:28):
in that insurance expertwhen it comes to legal matters.
Moving in.
On our episodes, a legal expertwill also share their knowledge with us.
So we will do what is needed to make surethat the information that we pass on to
you reliable is expansive, and it's covering the topic.

(08:48):

Haven, and we are ready to see youwhenever you need it.

The Burden

The Burden

The Burden is a documentary series that takes listeners into the hidden places where justice is done (and undone). It dives deep into the lives of heroes and villains. And it focuses a spotlight on those who triumph even when the odds are against them. Season 5 - The Burden: Death & Deceit in Alliance On April Fools Day 1999, 26-year-old Yvonne Layne was found murdered in her Alliance, Ohio home. David Thorne, her ex-boyfriend and father of one of her children, was instantly a suspect. Another young man admitted to the murder, and David breathed a sigh of relief, until the confessed murderer fingered David; “He paid me to do it.” David was sentenced to life without parole. Two decades later, Pulitzer winner and podcast host, Maggie Freleng (Bone Valley Season 3: Graves County, Wrongful Conviction, Suave) launched a “live” investigation into David's conviction alongside Jason Baldwin (himself wrongfully convicted as a member of the West Memphis Three). Maggie had come to believe that the entire investigation of David was botched by the tiny local police department, or worse, covered up the real killer. Was Maggie correct? Was David’s claim of innocence credible? In Death and Deceit in Alliance, Maggie recounts the case that launched her career, and ultimately, “broke” her.” The results will shock the listener and reduce Maggie to tears and self-doubt. This is not your typical wrongful conviction story. In fact, it turns the genre on its head. It asks the question: What if our champions are foolish? Season 4 - The Burden: Get the Money and Run “Trying to murder my father, this was the thing that put me on the path.” That’s Joe Loya and that path was bank robbery. Bank, bank, bank, bank, bank. In season 4 of The Burden: Get the Money and Run, we hear from Joe who was once the most prolific bank robber in Southern California, and beyond. He used disguises, body doubles, proxies. He leaped over counters, grabbed the money and ran. Even as the FBI was closing in. It was a showdown between a daring bank robber, and a patient FBI agent. Joe was no ordinary bank robber. He was bright, articulate, charismatic, and driven by a dark rage that he summoned up at will. In seven episodes, Joe tells all: the what, the how… and the why. Including why he tried to murder his father. Season 3 - The Burden: Avenger Miriam Lewin is one of Argentina’s leading journalists today. At 19 years old, she was kidnapped off the streets of Buenos Aires for her political activism and thrown into a concentration camp. Thousands of her fellow inmates were executed, tossed alive from a cargo plane into the ocean. Miriam, along with a handful of others, will survive the camp. Then as a journalist, she will wage a decades long campaign to bring her tormentors to justice. Avenger is about one woman’s triumphant battle against unbelievable odds to survive torture, claim justice for the crimes done against her and others like her, and change the future of her country. Season 2 - The Burden: Empire on Blood Empire on Blood is set in the Bronx, NY, in the early 90s, when two young drug dealers ruled an intersection known as “The Corner on Blood.” The boss, Calvin Buari, lived large. He and a protege swore they would build an empire on blood. Then the relationship frayed and the protege accused Calvin of a double homicide which he claimed he didn’t do. But did he? Award-winning journalist Steve Fishman spent seven years to answer that question. This is the story of one man’s last chance to overturn his life sentence. He may prevail, but someone’s gotta pay. The Burden: Empire on Blood is the director’s cut of the true crime classic which reached #1 on the charts when it was first released half a dozen years ago. Season 1 - The Burden In the 1990s, Detective Louis N. Scarcella was legendary. In a city overrun by violent crime, he cracked the toughest cases and put away the worst criminals. “The Hulk” was his nickname. Then the story changed. Scarcella ran into a group of convicted murderers who all say they are innocent. They turned themselves into jailhouse-lawyers and in prison founded a lway firm. When they realized Scarcella helped put many of them away, they set their sights on taking him down. And with the help of a NY Times reporter they have a chance. For years, Scarcella insisted he did nothing wrong. But that’s all he’d say. Until we tracked Scarcella to a sauna in a Russian bathhouse, where he started to talk..and talk and talk. “The guilty have gone free,” he whispered. And then agreed to take us into the belly of the beast. Welcome to The Burden.
