with Las Vegas casino owner
Derek Stevens, who came out tosupport the fountain blue.
He reveals why it's importantto embrace all things Las Vegas.
Derek Stevens (00:17):
I've always been
a supporter of any new
investment, any new property toVegas.
I'm a big supporter, whetherit's a casino like this or
whether it's something like thisfear.
Sean McAllister (00:27):
Plus some
options for New Year's Eve that
won't break the bank, and ashout out to our sponsors Hot
Works, infrared Fitness Studios, more workout, less time, and
the Vegas Near Me app.
If it's fun to do or see, it ison Vegas Near Me.
Dayna Roselli (00:44):
Alright, let's do
it and spin that wheel.
Welcome everyone to Vegas.
Revealed Episode 199.
It's Dayna Roselli and SeanMcAllister, and we are winding
down the year and getting readyfor 2024.
Sean McAllister (01:04):
And this year
has been jam-packed, I feel like
, from start to finish, and thenrounding it out with two brand
new casino openings.
That's wild.
That's not happened in the timethat I've been here.
Dayna Roselli (01:17):
No, and it
included a lot of celebrations.
It included a lot of firsts.
It included a lot of iconicmoments Like 2023 has been quite
a year.
Sean McAllister (01:28):
It was quite
the year, you're right.
Dayna Roselli (01:30):
Let's run down
some of the things.
I mean, we were just chattingbefore the podcast, as we were
getting ready, and I was like, remember this, remember that.
And you were like, oh, anddon't forget that.
But we were just thinking backand we were thinking, gosh, it
was the first ever Formula Onerace in Las Vegas.
Garth Brooks opened at theColiseum.
We were at that show.
It was incredible.
Our Vegas Golden Knights tookhome the Stanley Cup.
(01:51):
What a year, what a week, whata day.
Sean McAllister (01:55):
Oh my gosh, all
through the playoffs and being
out there on Toshiba Plaza andthen having the parade we were
eating up at Ocean Prime on thepatio as the parade was going by
.
That was pretty iconic.
It was Having the Las VegasAces winning another WNBA
championship.
(02:16):
It was a big year for sportshere.
Dayna Roselli (02:19):
It really was.
And then we found out this yearthat we're probably getting the
Las Vegas A's, and so we have alot to look forward to as well.
The sphere opened.
It's like whoa the whole worldis looking at us because we are
the only one with a sphere.
And the sphere is incredible andevery day you will not open up
your social media accountwithout a video or a picture of
(02:41):
the sphere.
Scrolling by right, Everyone'sposting the outside of the
sphere, the exosphere, going toYouTube, going to postcard from
Earth.
People are flying into LasVegas just to see the sphere and
there's a sphere fan group onFacebook with hundreds of
thousands of people.
Sean McAllister (02:56):
Yeah, and then
it's going to continue to spread
once fish come in in the springwith their run of shows.
So we're going to keep seeingthe sphere absolutely everywhere
.
We had Durango Casino andResort open up.
Also, the Fountain Blue justopened up.
You heard that in our episode198, our last episode, and it's
(03:21):
just been yeah.
Dayna Roselli (03:23):
Exciting.
Exciting, I mean, we're gettingthe Super Bowl in 2024, so
we've been planning for theSuper Bowl.
We're ramping up, havingmeetings, talking about events
for the community, talking aboutwhat the Super Bowl is going to
include.
We were able to interview andchat with Usher when he got the
key to the city.
It's been, you know, evenramping up for that.
(03:43):
That's kind of part of 2023 too.
Sean McAllister (03:46):
It is.
I think we're going to slideright from 2023 into 2024 with
the same velocity.
I think we also went up to thenorthern part of Nevada, to Frey
Ranch, and of course you knowthey're famous for making their
Frey Ranch whiskey, and that wasa great time too, my God that
was so fun.
Dayna Roselli (04:06):
We really enjoyed
just the short two days we were
there, experiencing northernNevada and being able to do the
whiskey tastings and learningabout Frey Ranch and touring the
farm, and while we were therewe actually bought tickets to
see the Killers which we haven'tseen in a couple years.
Jonathan Jossel (04:21):
Oh my God.
Sean McAllister (04:21):
I forgot about
that, I know.
Dayna Roselli (04:22):
Remember that was
so fun.
We were like there, like withour you know, reno, $7 beers and
watching Brandon Flowersperform with you know, and then
we were in the elevator with theguitar player.
I mean gosh, what an iconic twodays.
That was right.
We were also inducted into theNevada Broadcasters Association
(04:44):
Hall of Fame this year, and sobig shout out to us.
That was a big moment for us.
We've both been in broadcastingfor more than 20 years and it
was a great honor.
Five of those years had to bein Nevada, and so we you know,
we were nominated and inducted.
It was great.
Sean McAllister (05:01):
It was.
It was a really big honor andkind of a personal feather in
the cap yeah.
Dayna Roselli (05:09):
And then, to end
the year, I met Keith Urban.
Sean McAllister (05:11):
Right, Right.
I mean it's great to go into anew year with a new friend.
Dayna Roselli (05:16):
Exactly, I mean
me and Keith are tight.
We talked about that last week.
That was a very and when I saymeet, we meet people all the
time.
When we interview, we do thisand that, but like a nice little
one-on-one conversation.
Sean McAllister (05:28):
Yeah, when
there's like no pressure to do
an interview or anything likethat.
Dayna Roselli (05:32):
No, just yeah, I
mean my.
You know, I got to touch thisvelvet jacket.
Jonathan Jossel (05:35):
I got to smell
what cologne.
Dayna Roselli (05:37):
He was wearing
all that.
It was a nice, up close andpersonal meeting.
So the list goes on and on, andit's just been an incredible
year.
We love that all of you havejoined us through the year for
all these episodes.
Every single week we've beenable to share all this stuff
that we do, we love it.
We love Las Vegas and you knowit's part of it and you help
(05:58):
make it happen.
Sean McAllister (05:59):
Yeah, and we
want to thank some people who do
make it possible for us to goout and do and see these things.
You hear us talk about oursubscribers and how important
they are to keep the podcastgoing, and it really is true.
So we do want to pause and havea big thank you to the
(06:21):
subscribers who donate everysingle month.
We have Tracy Jansen, kevin andLindsay McClure, steve Tanberg,
rob Lewis and Omar, who hasdonated in the past as well.
Dayna Roselli (06:33):
Yeah, and Rob
Lewis donates twice a month
because he wanted to up hisamount and he could only do it
in increments.
So I mean, just all of thesepeople we appreciate you so much
.
Yeah, you know you justbasically support us, you're not
.
You know we aren't a subscriberbased podcast where you know
you need to subscribe to get ourcontent.
(06:53):
It's just basically them saying, hey, keep doing what you're
doing.
So we appreciate that.
We know giving up even an extradollar a month is a lot for
some people.
Sean McAllister (07:03):
So but we are
kind of like the PBS of
podcasting.
Dayna Roselli (07:06):
Yeah.
Sean McAllister (07:07):
You know how.
There's the telephones every sooften and they need your pledge
of support.
Dayna Roselli (07:13):
Yeah, we get
pledges Right.
Sean McAllister (07:15):
That's what we
are.
Dayna Roselli (07:17):
And we got it
made commission.
This month Somebody bought at-shirt and we got a $2
commission.
So whatever that Ch touching, Ijust transferred it from our
PayPal.
Thank you, it all helps, thoughit all helps.
Jonathan Jossel (07:28):
It does Really.
Dayna Roselli (07:29):
We've got our
Amazon shop.
We make a very tiny commissionfrom that, but we fill it up
with Vegas essentials and thingswe recommend.
If you ever want to check thatout, you can always go to all
our social media accounts.
Have a little link and in therewe have a full list of all the
things that we have our shopsour Amazon shop, where you can
find our YouTube, where you canfind our website all that good
stuff.
Sean McAllister (07:48):
All right.
New Year's Eve is coming up,obviously, as we wind down 2023
and look ahead to the new year, and Las Vegas, consistently,
year after year after year, isone of the top destinations for
New Year's Eve revelers, andthis year, I feel like the
entertainment is a little bitdifferent from what we've seen
(08:09):
in years past.
Dayna Roselli (08:10):
Yeah, I feel like
we have a lot of different
headliners this New Year's Eve.
We have Post Malone performingat Fountain Blue, we have
Christina Aguilera at Valterre,at the Venetian, demi Lovato at
the Cosmopolitan, luke Bryan atResorts World, and many more.
Sean McAllister (08:27):
And, by the way
, just a note on Luke Bryan.
He is wrapping up his residencyover at Resorts World, I
believe in the first week ofJanuary.
Dayna Roselli (08:38):
January 6th,
because we're going to go to
that show.
We're going to be there for hisfinal show.
I think it's January 6th, whichis a Saturday.
Sean McAllister (08:44):
Yeah.
So the clock is ticking on theavailability to go and see Luke
Bryan here in Las Vegas.
So keep that in mind and bringyour energy, because he's a ball
of fun.
Bring tons of energy and acocktail.
Dayna Roselli (08:59):
But we do
actually have a full list of
things happening on our website, because there's too many to
mention.
So go to vegas-revealedcom.
We just posted it.
It is up there, and in our tipscoming up in a little bit, we
picked two that we actuallythink are a pretty good bang for
your buck.
So we'll have that coming up.
Sean McAllister (09:17):
And, of course,
there has been a lot of talk
since the opening of FountainBlue about everything,
everything, I mean.
People are finally in there, they're posting about their
experiences at the restaurantsat all of the venues inside of
Fountain Blue and we wanted tobring to you some of the
conversations.
That didn't make it into theepisode last week, but they were
(09:41):
great conversations and wereally wanted to share them with
you.
So we thought that this week itwould be a good chance for you
to hear from Las Vegas casinoowner Derek Stevens and his wife
.
They were at the grand opening.
Derek owns Circa Las Vegas, theD the Golden Gate downtown in
the Fremont district plus thedowntown Las Vegas Event Center,
(10:05):
and he was also with theResorts World grand opening.
Dayna Roselli (10:09):
Right.
So when we saw him at theFountain Blue, we remembered
that we're like here's Derekagain coming to support another
casino.
This is really cool.
We've got to talk to him aboutthis.
We also talked to the CEO ofthe Plaza Hotel and Casino,
Jonathan Jocel.
He was there too.
Really, we talked to both ofthem to kind of get their take
on why they enjoy supportingother casinos in town, why they
think it's important.
(10:29):
So let's start with Derek.
Remember being at the ResortsWorld opening, and you guys were
there too.
You always support othercasinos.
I love that.
Derek Stevens (10:36):
Yeah, I mean, I
think it's a long standing Vegas
tradition.
I think it's a good thing we'reexcited to hit the Blackjack
tables or the Dice tables alittle bit later.
It works.
Just excited to be here.
This is such a reallymonumental day for Las Vegas.
I'm so happy for Jeffrey Brettand their team.
I'm so happy for Las Vegas as awhole.
This is a monumental day.
(10:58):
A resort of this size it'sgoing to bring so many people to
Las Vegas, so this is great.
Sean McAllister (11:06):
And listeners
from out of town.
They hear oh, there's a newcasino opening in Las Vegas.
Okay, but those of us who livehere know what a big deal it is
and what an undertaking it is.
I mean, can you articulate, having gone through it yourself
from the ground up downtown withCirco, what is involved in this
that people don't reallyrealize?
Derek Stevens (11:28):
I would tell you
I had, like I was mentioning,
with you people, I was getting alittle taste of it when we
opened three years ago.
So I drove down Las VegasBoulevard I think it was three
days ago and I saw a franticnumber of workers planting trees
and pouring concrete and Ithought, oh my God, I remember
that three years ago, when thestress levels were just over the
(11:48):
top, but they did it.
I mean, this looks spectacular.
They just nailed this.
So it's just exciting to be apart of it.
Dayna Roselli (11:55):
And you are
always along for the ride and
you love it, right, I just goalong, yeah, but I mean it is
good to be supportive, you know, and we love seeing both of you
together at things.
I mean it shows that you knowit's a family town too.
Family stick together, we do,we do.
Sean McAllister (12:11):
What are you
most looking forward to about
Fountain Blue?
Dayna Roselli (12:17):
I don't know, I
just I want to see inside.
I want to see everything.
He's gotten a little bit of asneak peek.
I haven't, so I'm just takingeverything in.
Sean McAllister (12:26):
So Nicole's
playtime hasn't come yet.
Derek Stevens (12:28):
No, not yet not
yet I'm excited about the new
elements of design.
You know we've never we'venever seen a design like this
before, so it's going to bebreaking the mold, which I think
is pretty exciting.
Dayna Roselli (12:41):
Well, I should
say, I mean, no matter what, we
want people to come to Las Vegas, right?
So something else opening andsomething else bringing more
people in is only good for you, right?
Absolutely.
Derek Stevens (12:51):
I've always been
a supporter of any new
investment, any new property inVegas, and I'm a big supporter,
whether it's a casino like thisor whether it's something like
this fear.
We just got to bring morepeople to Vegas.
We're the city of entertainment, and more reasons to bring
great visitors to Vegas arealways good.
Dayna Roselli (13:11):
When there's
casino openings and hotel
openings, it's great to seeother owners and operators out
to support this.
Is something you believe in.
Jonathan Jossel (13:18):
Absolutely.
We got to support it.
It's great for the city and weall want to be here supporting
it, and anything new for Vegasis going to be great, so we're
looking forward to getting tocheck it out and what it's going
to add to the community.
Sean McAllister (13:29):
And what do you
think that Fountain Blue is
going to bring to this end ofthe strip that eventually leads
people downtown?
Jonathan Jossel (13:35):
Well, this took
us five minutes to get here
from downtown, which is verynice, nice to have on this end,
and I think it's going to add anew flavor.
Obviously, the MiamiConnections huge and I got to
walk around and check it outbefore I can really tell you
about that, but I think it'sgoing to add a lot and it's
going to give people anotherreason to come here and visit.
Dayna Roselli (13:51):
You've just you
know, this year you've opened a
lot of new and cool things.
So I mean new stuff in Vegasbrings people in right.
Jonathan Jossel (13:58):
Always brings
people in, and you got to be
patient, give it time to besuccessful and, yeah, it's a big
undertaking.
So full credit to these guysfor pulling this off.
20 years later, it's great tosee it come together.
Dayna Roselli (14:08):
Yeah, and it may
seem obvious why they come out
to support, but that isn't thecase for every single property
in town.
I mean, look at the little catfight the wind and fountain blue
hat on instagram, you know Iwas going to say.
Sean McAllister (14:22):
the casino
industry is a very competitive
industry.
You know you have a pool ofplayers and you know everyone's
trying to get their attentionand draw them into their
property with with deals, withattractions, with promotion.
Dayna Roselli (14:38):
so you know it is
, it's tough, but I do love
seeing the camaraderie that'sthat's here in the community as
well well, I think I was cool ifthey also pointed out, you know
, the northern end of the stripis actually closer to downtown
and, like john saying, it tookhim, you know, like five minutes
to get down the road and thereis a nice little link there.
You know, you popped tofountain blue, you popped to
(15:00):
resort world and you're like, okay, let's hit downtown.
You know, go to circa or theplaza, hit fremont street.
So I mean, there is a littlebit of a link there to.
So that's kind of nice for themand they're always so great and
I love that they.
They love Las Vegas and I thinkthat you know, obviously
everyone that works here and isengrossed it wouldn't be here if
they didn't.
But I don't know, I just kindof like how they really go all
(15:23):
out all the time yeah, theyreally do, for their own
properties and for Other peoplesas well.
Sean McAllister (15:30):
I write let's
do some tips.
Dana, as you mentioned earlier, our tips this week are new
year's eve related.
These are some new year's eveevents that we thought were
pretty good deals, consideringthe numbers that we've seen
Floating around for other newyear's eve events.
(15:50):
The first one is it flight clubyou.
We've talked about this here onthe podcast before.
This is the social darts venueover at the grand canal shops at
the venetian.
Dayna Roselli (16:03):
Yeah, and it's
gorgeous in there and it's huge,
and you know, if you don't knowit's there, because sometimes
you know there's so much goingon here you walk by something
like wait, what is that?
And actually just gonna Pedalback for a minute.
You actually brought your wholefamily when they were in town
to the flight club and we didn'tget a chance to talk about it
because there was so much goingon, but that was a great place
to bring the fam to right.
Sean McAllister (16:24):
Oh my gosh, we
had a blast.
We went.
We had some downtime in theafternoon before we were going
to dinner, yeah, and we're like,oh, why not Pop over and play
some darts?
Like so something thateverybody can do and it's just a
good time.
And what's Fun is that there'sa camera that records, that
(16:49):
records you throwing the darts, and it's very high tech.
But when you win a game, itrecords your celebration and
puts it up on this big screen.
Dayna Roselli (16:59):
Oh my god, I
could just see your mom and
sister laughing.
Oh, they probably thought itwas so.
Sean McAllister (17:05):
And then they
send you all of the little video
clips that the little camerahas recorded throughout your
dark session.
They email them to you afteryour session is done.
That is so cool and the drinksare delicious.
Yeah, they have a really goodfood selection to.
Dayna Roselli (17:21):
There's some
windows that look out right
toward the strip, to realizeit's tripside there's like a
carousel bar that has all thesewindows that look right out.
Sean McAllister (17:30):
It's a great
venue.
Yeah, we had a blast good, good, good food to.
Dayna Roselli (17:34):
And so when we
saw this, we thought what?
What?
A hundred bucks, years, so.
So let's run, run through it.
A hundred bucks, get this.
That's for an individual ticket, but you're gonna get to drink
tickets, complimentary midnightchampagne, unlimited
replenishment of a special eventmenu All night, and you can
(17:56):
also play social darts withother guests within the property
.
So it's like everyone you know,it's super fun.
I mean, for a hundred dollars,that's great.
Sean McAllister (18:03):
I think that's
a great deal it is, it's, I mean
you're especially if the foodis gonna keep keep coming right,
I mean when you think aboutwhat you would spend to go and
sit down for dinner on New.
Year's Eve.
I mean a hundred bucks is agreat deal it really is.
Dayna Roselli (18:20):
Again, it's at
the Venetian, at the grand canal
shops.
They are doing group packagesto.
It's a little bit moreexpensive.
That was also a good deal, soHighly recommend the flight to
club if you're looking forsomething to do on New Year's
Eve.
Sean McAllister (18:32):
And here is
another venue where you're going
to have A very uniqueperspective on the New Year's
Eve fireworks as they go off atmidnight.
We're talking about voodoolounge, up on the fifty first
floor of the Rio it may not getall the talk that it should.
Dayna Roselli (18:51):
People don't talk
about it often, especially
anymore, because people forgetit's there.
I mean that.
That seems like that to me, andso we thought, oh yeah, the
voodoo lounge.
When they offered this deal, wewere like, well, like to be set
off.
The strip is almost even betterto see all the fireworks going
off at once, so this could be areally good place To go watch
(19:12):
those strip fireworks atmidnight.
So it's on the fifty firstfloor of the Rio.
They're gonna be doing open barand order starting at ten
o'clock for one seventy five.
Sean McAllister (19:24):
Which is pretty
good.
And again, just like withsocial darts, they're gonna keep
passing those hors d'oeuvresaround to sell out.
You know, get your fell.
Yeah, get your fell, for sureit's an.
There's open bar.
Yeah, it's great.
Dayna Roselli (19:38):
The Rio's going
through a whole redo and it's
just east of the strip.
It has that outdoor patio withthe panoramic view.
Like we said, there's an indooroutdoor.
So voodoo lounge at the Rio.
Look that up if you're lookingfor a place to hang out on New
Year's Eve in Las Vegas LasVegas style gosh.
Sean McAllister (19:57):
I haven't been
up to voodoo in a long time.
I think the last time I wasthere, yeah.
Dayna Roselli (20:02):
I mean, I haven't
either, but I think the last
time was like a postChippendales party or something.
Sean McAllister (20:06):
Yeah, probably.
And, by the way, they do havevoodoo steakhouse up at the top
of the Rio as well.
Dayna Roselli (20:11):
Okay, I've never
been there either, have you.
Sean McAllister (20:15):
Yeah yeah, I've
eaten there a couple times.
I thought it was great.
Dayna Roselli (20:18):
Good hey for a
full list of New Year's Eve
events.
We again have it on our websiteVegas dash revealed Dot com.
So keep that in mind, hey.
Another quick note when I wentto the fountain blue on my own
recently, I got a vodka soda andit was $15.
I went to Komodo, yeah, andthen also at Mother Wolf, and
then I heard someone I think itwas on social media posted their
(20:41):
receipt from, like, the centerbar.
So, like, vodka drinks are 15bucks there and it's sad to say
that's a deal, but for a stripresort that actually is a really
good price anything under 20bucks yeah.
I mean some of these in theespresso martinis were $17.
Sean McAllister (20:56):
Really.
Dayna Roselli (20:57):
Yes, they're
usually like 22 plus right.
Yeah so I'm telling you thatwas another little thing I meant
to mention earlier.
You know, if you want to gograb a cocktail at the fountain
blue, it's not so bad comparedto us, some other resorts.
Sean McAllister (21:09):
Interesting.
I love that.
Yeah, hey, before we let you go, we do want to remind you that
Dana and I, in addition to beinghosts of the Vegas revealed
podcast, also own a mediacompany called Insightful Media.
So if you're looking for MCsfor an event or on camera talent
(21:30):
, media trading, videoproduction, we do all of that
under our Insightful MediaCompany umbrella.
Dayna Roselli (21:39):
Yeah, I mean
that's that's like like that's a
real job.
You know, and you know, recently we were talking to one
of our subscribers, tracy, andshe said you know you guys
should talk about what you guysdo more often.
We hear you talking about allthe other sponsors, but you know
, talk about Insightful Media.
And I thought you know what sheis right.
We don't talk about what we dothat often and that we're
available because there are somany events around Las Vegas.
(22:02):
We love MCing, we love MCingtogether and kind of playing off
each other.
Just an MC makes a hugedifference at events to keep the
energy up, to keep thingsmoving, and so we love doing it.
Like Sean said again, we do oncamera talent stuff.
So hit us up.
Insightful Media cocom is ourwebsite.
Sean McAllister (22:25):

It's well.

people around the world arereally enjoying the coverage.
Sean McAllister (23:08):
Yeah, so take a
look.

Dayna Roselli (23:28):
I hope in 2024
