Sheila Nonato (00:00):
Sisters of
Christ, welcome to the Veil
and Armour Podcast.
And I am welcoming you after acouple of weeks of hiatus,
sickness in the house.
I'm sure all mothers know thisas.
uh, school starts.
And yes, we do get those coldbugs.
And um, so unfortunately, I,um, got sick and, uh ,so did my
(00:24):
family.
Um, but yeah, thank you forcoming back again and to join us
for day two.
Freedom from perfectionism.
And, um, as I mentioned before,I brought back this retreat
that I had recorded for theHozana Prayer app, which is
about uh close to two millionusers.
Uh, prayer warriors, I callthem.
(00:45):
Um, and it's a free service.
And so if you'd like to jointhe retreat online and it's an
audio um retreat and also avisual retreat that you can read
along with, you are welcome todo that, hozana.org, um, and I
don't get any any, uh, paymentsor anything like that.
It's totally a free, um,service because I believe we,
(01:05):
um, we mothers should unitetogether in prayer, even if we
are not united in person, um,especially if just circumstances
we are not around uh family orfriends.
Um, but we do need to breakthat isolation.
Um, and we we can come togetheras a community of prayer.
(01:26):
And one way is through online.
So I hope you, uh, will lookinto that if you are interested,
hozana.org.
And it's the Mother's Dayretreat by Veil and Armour for
Mother's Day, but I know it's itwas specifically for Mother's
Day, but not so much becauseshouldn't Mother's Day be every
day, really, right?
We should, um, celebrate theUnsung heroes, um, of, uh, our
(01:48):
families, of our society, andthat that's the mother.
One, um, morning my son hadasked me, Mom, how can you how
can moms be moms if they'resick?
And that is a good question.
And I think we just you know, like fathers, how what do they
do as well?
(02:09):
Um, they just go to work and sodo moms.
Is that we um try to find that,um, inner strength within us to
keep going?
And uh and as you can tell, myvoice, um, is the best in terms
of uh its clarity because yeah,I've had a sore throat and
(02:32):
almost lost my voice.
But what does that mean,actually?
Losing our voice and stealingsilent, does that mean we are
not strong?
Um, we can use that to ouradvantage, whatever our
situation will be.
And one of the examples I'dlike to point to is Mother Mary
uh at the foot of the cross, and, uh, Miss Queenie, who I
have interviewed with Mrs.
(02:53):
Tammy Peterson, uh, she hadtalked with uh Tammy about this
particular uh scene in ThePassion of Our Lord and the
Crucifixion, where Mother Marystood.
It says the Bible says MotherMary stood at the foot of the
cross.
And that's actually a powerfulstatement.
Although if you don't, um, itcould easily be missed.
(03:15):
But if you reflect upon it,after everything that her son
had gone through, the horrifictorture, the agonizing
humiliation that her son hadendured, Mother Mary, instead of
running away, not wanting tosee what was happening to her
son, she decided she was goingto stay with him until the end.
(03:38):
And she was silent, but havingthe having the strength to stand
with her with her and at thefoot of the cross, how much
strength did that require?
How much prayer, how much faithand trust in God did that
require out of her?
Um, that she was not, the Bibledoesn't say she was on the
(04:01):
floor crying.
Um, she she probably wascrying, um, given, you know,
just a great amount of agony andtorture her son went through
that Jesus went through.
But she stood, and I think thatstands for something.
Um, literally andmetaphorically speaking, is that
as women, as mothers, there aretimes when we we just yeah, we
(04:26):
just want to fall down and umdon't want to get back up again,
you know, if something horrificor tragic happens, like
Princess the assassination ofCharlie Kirk and um and Mrs.
Erica Kirk, who some peoplehave been criticizing her way of
grieving online.
Um her her way of grieving isnot sufficient to some people,
(04:50):
but we think about it, ourmothers, our military mothers,
um, the military wives, militaryfamilies, when our husbands are
overseas or our loved ones areoverseas, we have to, I mean,
pardon the expression, "Soldieron," for our kids, because
they're looking to us.
And in that time, we um theface we show usually is one of
(05:14):
strength because we don't wantthem to worry.
Um, it doesn't mean that wedon't worry.
Doesn't mean we don't, youknow, we might not show it
outwardly, but it's there, theyou know, the the concern.
And so I mean I I I don't knowwhat it is like to be a, um,
military widow or a widow of ofany kind.
(05:35):
And, um, and I my heart justgoes out to those women who have
had to carry that cross, including Erica Kirk.
And we just we just send herprayers, no matter um, you know,
what your political affiliationis.
I think I hope we can agreethat um violence of any kind,
especially the murder ofsomebody, um, should be
(05:59):
unacceptable, and that we offercompassion to the family who who
lost that loved one.
Um and so I just, yeah, justhow do we sort of tie this all
in?
Is that Miss Erica Kirk wastalking about in her speech, the
most powerful part I found, andmany people have found, is she
(06:20):
said she forgave her husband'skiller.
And if you think about it, howmuch strength do you have to
have in order to say that?
Because we usually have to, youwant to hold on.
And in God's, um, definition ofperfection, forgiveness,
forgiveness also plays a veryimportant part in that.
(06:41):
And uh it also shows us thatthere's sort of a disconnect
between worldly perfection, whatwe think is perfection, as in,
you know, the Instagram perfectpictures and all that.
But God has a different, um,interpretation or definition of
perfection, and this actuallyfits into the topic of love.
(07:03):
What is perfect love?
So let's um, let's dive intothe second day, the second day
of the retreat, and thank youfor joining us.
God bless, and HappyThanksgiving before I forget to
our Canadian listeners and uhsubscribers.
And we wish you and your familya blessed, happy, holy, and
(07:24):
wonderful Thanksgiving with yourfamily and friends and
relatives.
God bless.

This is your host, SheilaNonato.
I'm a stay-at-home mom and afreelance Catholic journalist.
Seeking the guidance of theHoly Spirit and the inspiration
of Our Lady, I strive to tellstories that inspire,
(07:47):
illuminate, and enrich the livesof Catholic women to help them
in living out our vocation ofraising the next generation of
leaders and saints.
Co-Hosts (07:56):
Please join us every
week on the Veil and Armour
Podcast, where stories comealive through a journalist's
land and mother's heart.
Sheila Nonato (08:03):
Welcome to day
two
learning to let go and forgive.
"Be perfect, as your heavenlyfather is perfect." "Then Peter
came up and said to him, 'Lord, how often shall my brother sin
against me and I forgive him?
As many as seven times?' Jesussaid to him, 'I do not say to
(08:27):
you seven times, but seventytimes seven.' And Jesus said,
'Father, forgive them, for theyknow not what they do.'" In the
name of the Father, and of theSon, and the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
Opening prayer, HeavenlyFather, you asked us to be
perfect like you.
You also asked us to learnforgiveness for each other.
(08:49):
And among Jesus' last words ashe was dying on the cross were
words of compassion, imploringyou to forgive us for what our
sins have done to your onlybegotten Son.
May we learn to forgive andlove like you do.
May we learn to also forgiveourselves when we feel like we
(09:10):
don't measure up the world thatdemands so much of women and how
we should look and how weshould act, that we are tempted
to draw comparisons with othersinstead of focusing on how God
created each and every one of usunique and also in his image
and likeness.
May we exchange those earthlystandards for the biblical
(09:33):
standards of the Proverbs 31woman, a woman of dignity,
patience, generosity, courage, wisdom, faith, and love.
These virtues reflect thefeminine genius of Mother Mary
and the feminine genius ofwomen.
May we learn to embrace ourfemininity, our womanhood, and
(09:55):
our motherhood in each uniquevocation to which we are called.
Perflection.
In the Bible, the number sevensignifies perfection.
When Jesus asks us to forgiveseventy times seven, he is
teaching us that this perfectionmirrors biblical perfection.
God's perfect love to beperfect like God the Father and
(10:19):
God the Son is to love like theydo, an unconditional,
all-encompassing, compassionate, and merciful love that embraces
the prodigal children of whomwe all are.
How can we emulate God'sperfect love in our daily
motherhood through God's graceand by making prayer as the
(10:42):
centre of our day?
In her book, "The Heart ofPerfection, How the Saints
Taught Me to Trade My Dream ofPerfect for God's," Catholic
author, homeschooling mom offour, and former presidential
speech writer, Colleen CarrollCampbell, writes about Saint
Benedict and his rule ofBiblical balance.
(11:03):
In a Valent Armor podcastinterview, Colleen also spoke of
how the saintly sixth-centurymonk taught us about aura et
labora, the importance of prayerand work.
Colleen applied the concept ofbiblical balance to motherhood
(11:23):
and wrote in her book about howSaint Benedict saw those daily
duties as the stuff of oursanctification.
For Saint Benedict, holinessconsists in fidelity to God's
will and the competing demandson our time and the mundane
tasks of everyday life.
Let us take to prayer awell-known phrase in social
(11:46):
media, especially when we feellike we don't measure up.
May we stop seeking validationfrom a world that crucified the
perfect man.
We can persevere through ourdaily challenges with God and
the anchor of prayer guiding usin our actions throughout the
day.
Litany.
(12:07):
Good Saint Anne, please prayfor us.
Our Lady of Czestochowa, pleasepray for us.
Our Lady of Kibeho, please prayfor us.
Our Lady of Lourdes, pleasepray for us.
(12:28):
Closing prayer.
The late Saint John Paul IIacknowledged how Vietnam's Our
Lady of La Vang was a sign ofhope for Christians in the
country, although theapparitions have not yet
received official churchapproval.
Saint John Paul II wrote aletter to the Archbishop of
Vietnam on the 200th anniversaryof the apparitions of Our Lady
(12:51):
of La Vang.
He wrote, "In going to theshrine of Our Lady of La Vang,
so dear to the hearts of theVietnamese faithful that
pilgrims entrust to her theirjoys and their sorrows, their
hopes and their sufferings.
In this way they turn to Godand make themselves intercessors
for their families and fortheir entire people, asking the
(13:13):
Lord to instill sentiments ofpeace, brotherhood, and
solidarity in the hearts of allmen and women, so that all
Vietnamese will be every daymore closely united in order to
build a world in which it ispleasant to live, based on the
essential spiritual and moralvalues, and where each person
(13:33):
can be recognized in his dignityas a child of God and turn
freely and with filial love tohis Father in heaven, who is
rich in mercy."For our Closing Prayer, we
remember all Christians aroundthe world who were persecuted
for their faith.
May Our Lady of La Vangintercede for the people of
(13:54):
Vietnam and the region of Asiato protect Christians in the
practice of their Christianfaith.
May we learn from the exampleof the martyrs whose hearts
burned with love for God andunited their sufferings with the
passion of our Lord JesusChrist.
Hail, Holy Queen, Mother ofMercy, Hail our lives
, our sweetness and our hope.
(14:15):
To thee do we cry poor banishedchildren of Eve.
To thee do we send up oursighs, mourning and weeping in
this valley of tears.
Turn thy mostgracious advocate, thine eyes to
mercy towards us, that afterthis our exile, show unto us the
blessed fruit of thy womb,Jesus.
O Clement, O loving, O sweetVirgin Mary, pray for us, O holy
Mother of God, that we may bemade worthy of the promises of
(14:38):
Christ.
Amen.
In the name of the Father, andof the Son, and of the Holy
Spirit.
Amen.
