Sheila Nonato (00:00):
Day 4 of the Retreat fro Catholic Mothers
from I mpatience Let us lovewith the heart of Jesus.

Reflection (00:08):
"Love is patient, love is kind."
Dear Sisters in Christ, for dayfour, please allow me to
introduce you to Our Lady of theCape in Canada.
Located in one of the oldestand largest Marian shrines in
North America.
It has 400 years of history inQuebec.

(00:29):
Founded in 1659, Our Lady ofthe Cape is in the district of
Cap de la Madeleine, halfwaybetween Montreal and Quebec City
in Quebec.
In 1694, Father Paul Vachon, the first pastor, established
the Brotherhood of the Rosary.
The second church on the lot ofthe current Our Lady of the

(00:51):
Cape Shrine is the oldest churchin Canada, where Holy Mass is
celebrated every day.
A movie called "The Bridge ofRoses" brings to life the story
of Our Lady of the Cape and themiracles associated with our
Blessed Mother.
Its most famous miracle is ofthe ice bridge.
In 1879, parishioners hadprayed the Holy Rosary for the

(01:14):
whole winter, asking Our Lady'sintercession for solid ice to
form on the St.
Lawrence River, which did notfreeze over that winter.
An ice bridge was needed toallow them to build a third and
larger church.
The miracle occurred in thespringtime, when thin pieces of
ice came down the river andallowed the parish's vicar and

(01:35):
parishioners to work on thesevery thin pieces of ice.
From the Feast of St.
Joseph to the Feast of theAnnunciation, the ice bridge,
which spanned the width of theSt.
Laurence River, affectionatelycalled the Rosary Bridge,
remained to allow the work to becompleted, thanks to Our Lady
of the Cape.
Another remarkable miracle wasattributed to a statue donated

(01:59):
by a parishioner in 1854.
During prayer, two priests anda parishioner saw the statue's
eyes open for about five to tenminutes.
Father Frederick Jansoondescribed this life-changing
event.
The statue looked like she had"the face of a living person,
with her eyes being in perfectharmony with Our Lady's

(02:21):
beautiful face", he haddescribed.

Opening prayer: In the name of the Father and of (02:24):

the Son and of the Holy Spirit,Amen.
Dear Our Lady of the Cape, maywe emulate the patience and
resilience of the missionarieswho began the work of
evangelization in Cap de laMadeleine 400 years ago, and the
priests and parishioners andthe guardians of the shrine, the

(02:45):
Missionary Oblates of Mary, whoall helped build the shrine of
Our Lady of the Cape to what itis today.
A national Marian shrine thatdraws almost half a million
pilgrims every year.
We also ask for theintercession of Father Frederick
Janssoon, a Franciscan friarwho was the first director of

(03:05):
pilgrimages at Our Lady of theCape Shrine.
A saintly man and a remarkablepreacher, he was declared
blessed by the late Saint JohnPaul II in 1988, 100 years after
Father Jansoon had witnessedthe miracle of the opening of
the eyes of Our Lady of the Capestatue.
Please help us open our eyes tothe beauty of patience.

(03:29):
Reflection.
In "Dilexit Nos," theencyclical written by our
recently departed Holy Father,Pope Francis, he emphasized the
love of God through the sacredheart of Jesus.
"Dilexit nos," which means "Heloved us in Latin," reminds us
of the origin of all love andunderstanding from our Creator.

(03:50):
"In the beginning was the Word,"St.
John tells us in his gospel,"and the Word became flesh."
This is when love took on aname, the holy name of Jesus.
Jesus is calling you andsending you forth to spread
goodness in our world.

The late Pope Francis "wrote: Perhaps as a physician, a (04:08):

mother, a teacher, or a priest.
Wherever you may be, you canhear his call and realize that
he is sending you forth to carryout that mission.
He himself told us, I amsending you out."

(04:30):
In her book, "Evangelizing OurChildren with Joy" by Scepter
Press, Catholic homeschoolingmother and author of the Mercy
for Martha's Catholic blog forhomeschooling moms, Mary Cooney
writes, "Growing in patiencerequires us to exercise
self-control, to subdue ourtempers, and to work hard at
being kind when we want to snapat one of our kids or yell.

(04:54):
It means correcting ourchildren with firmness, yet
kindness.
When they are careless, forgetful, or flat out
disobedient.
Patience also means beingpatient with our husbands." Mary
Cooney writes, "the very bestthing a mother can do for her
children is to love theirfather.
The very best thing a fathercan do for his children is to

(05:16):
love their mother.
When we have a happy marriageand a happy home, we create a
sense of security and modelpatience, kindness, compassion,
and love," Mary Cooney writes.
Litany.

Sheila's daughter (06:00):
Dear Mary, Mother of Jesus, help me to be
patient and loving to mychildren, rather than to be
angry at them.
Almost Holy Mother, help me tobe patient too, as you were with
Jesus.
Amen.
In the name of the Father andof the Son and of the Holy
Spirit, Amen.
