"Finally, be strong in
the Lord and his mighty power.
Put on the full armour of Godso that you can take your stand
against the devil's schemes.
For our struggle is not againstflesh and blood, but against
the rulers, against theauthorities, against the powers
of this dark world, and againstthe spiritual forces of evil in
the heavenly realms.
(00:20):
Therefore, put on the fullarmor of God so that when the
day of evil comes, you may beable to stand your ground and
have you done any everything tostand."
Joseph Nonato (00:30):
Thank you very
much, Raphaelle.
Alright, wonderful.
So "Mahal ko" (My Love), wefinally made it here in
Steubenville.
This is amazing.
Sheila Nonato (00:35):
So we are at the
Catholic Creator Conference.
Thank you to Kyle and Drew fororganizing all everyone who
helped out with that.
And it's been an amazingexperience so far, especially
with our family.
Joseph Nonato (00:46):
The masculinity
and the example of Saint Joseph
that has been given is somethingthat I think that many Catholic
men these days are starting towake up to.
Starting saying this is veryimportant.
What we do is noble.
And the nobility of what SaintJoseph did in quietly going to
work and going and doing histhing, supporting the family,
being the night protector andprovider of the Holy Family,
(01:07):
right?
It's something that has to beexemplified, and especially in
this day and age.
And anyways, this is what I'dlike to discover uh through the
journey of the Veil and ArmourPodcast.
Sheila Nonato (01:21):

Alright,
everyone.
So we're here on anotherepisode of the Veil in Armour
Podcast.
And so we have the whole familyhere together today.
But before we do that, let'sbegin with a prayer.
Together in the name of theFather and of the Son and of the
Holy Spirit.
Amen.
Let's just take a moment toremember that we are in the most
holy presence of God.
Okay, let's pray to our Lord toguide this conversation.
(02:15):
Come, Holy Spirit, fill thehearts of your faithful, and
enkindle in them the fire ofyour love, send forth your
spirit, and they shall becreated, and you shall renew the
face of the earth.
Let us pray.
O God has taught the hearts ofthe faithful by the light of the
Holy Spirit.
Grant that by the gift of thesame Spirit we be always truly
wise and ever rejoice in hisconsolation.
Through the same Christ ourLord.
Amen.
Okay, Raphaelle, can you pleaseuh begin us with a reading?
Sheila Nonato (02:40):
And it's a let
letter, Saint Paul's letter to
the Ephesians, The Armour ofGod.
Co-Host (02:46):
"Finally, be strong in

Joseph Nonato (03:17):
Thank you very
much, Raphaelle.
Alright, wonderful.
So "Mahal ko" (My love), wefinally made it here in
Steubenville.
This is amazing.
Sheila Nonato (03:23):
So we are at the
Catholic Creator Conference.
Thank you to Kyle and Drew fororganizing all everyone who
helped out with that.
And it's been an amazingexperience so far, especially
with our family.
And uh I guess we're gonnaunveil the armour side of the
Veil and Armour podcast.
This is my husband who isreally the inspiration behind
the podcast apostolate that westarted.
(03:45):
And uh can you tell us, youknow, why do you well I the Veil
and Armour name came to meduring mass.
Was praying about it, wasn'tsure what to call the podcast.
And I know it's not SEOfriendly um or anything like
that, but that's sort of thename that was given and that
(04:06):
stuck.
And so can you explain, youknow, what's the armour side
have to do with with faith anduh apostolate?
Joseph Nonato (04:14):
Well, first of
all, yeah, I'd love I'd love to
say that I love the fact thatyou got the name and during Holy
Mass, right?
And so therefore at the end ofMass, I remember you said to me,
Okay, that's what the thepodcast name is.
But uh before we even get tolike why is it Veil and Armour,
let's how did we end up in thisjourney?
Like all of a sudden, a yearand a half later, we're in
Steubenville at a CatholicCreator Conference.
(04:34):
How was it that we started offthis journey?
Sheila Nonato (04:37):
Well, we started
it off because after 12 years of
being a stay-at-home mom, I umcame across a story, uh, the
Tammy Peterson story, beforeanyone knew uh that she was
going to be converting.
I'd heard it through friends.
Um, and I don't know, I justkept asking God, like, why is
(04:58):
this coming to me now?
Um, do you want me to write it?
Because I haven't writtenanything in 12 years.
And um, and through connectionsand just asking Queenie U,
who's been an amazing um womanof faith who helped to guide
Mrs.
Peterson to the CatholicChurch.
So I wrote that story for TheCatholic Register in Toronto,
(05:19):
um, which, you know, spread likewildfire.
And Gabby After Hours did anamazing video of Jordan and
Tammy and the story of themiracle of faith and the miracle
she was given.
So that's sort of how itstarted.
Um, and then you suggested apodcast, and it was kind of a
funny thing that I'm really justa pen and paper journalist.
(05:39):
Um, I didn't want to go onvideo, really, it's very
uncomfortable for me.
Um, but I just thought you saidit was the new, this is the new
mission territory.
Joseph Nonato (05:50):
I think so.
Yeah.
Yeah.
It's the it's the new medium,right?
If we want to get the um, Iremember Saint John Paul II had
uh saying after the World YouthDay in Toronto, he's saying,
Okay, well, you know, the thenew media is basically
television and and and andwhatnot.
But if we keep on going withthat, with the new trajectories,
obviously with podcasts and andyou can see that, especially
(06:11):
during the uh the pandemic, thenumber of people that have
converted or have learned aboutthe faith and grown stronger in
the faith, it's it's jumped.
So with bad things, God canturn wonderful things uh out of
bad things, and the pandemic isexactly you know an example of
that.
So you can see here that youknow, once you put something on
YouTube, it's there, it'sarchived, and people can look it
(06:32):
up and they can learn from it.
And so while our our apostolateis a very small apostolate, it
still has a lot of value becausewe're contributing to that
wider uh uh to that widereffort.
Okay, now going back to the thewhole thing about the Veil and
Armour, I love the fact thatit's called Veil and armour
because you know, in ourmarriage, there obviously the uh
there's a duality that the thetwo of us are together on the
(06:53):
same mission, right?
On the same mission in ourvocation, right?
Living in a particular way fora purpose.
And that purpose is to bringourselves, each other, uh, and
our family to get to heaven.
And so I love the very factthat Veil and Armour, so far
you've talked about motherhoodand the femininity, the
"feminine genius" in the in thein the the veil part, but then
(07:15):
now we want to bring in thearmor part, which is obviously
masculinity, which is somethingthat um masculinity in terms of
husband good husband and being agood father, right?
Uh something that obviously manypeople have identified is as is
is very much needed uh in thisday.
What is it to be a real man andwhatnot?
Now, obviously, in this, neither you or I are saying
(07:37):
we're the examples to follow.
Christ is always the example tofollow with that, but we are on
a journey of discovery withthis, and obviously trying to
make these interviews and talkto people and learn what they
think.
And obviously, we're on alearning journey ourselves and
to try to figure this out, right?
Now, the with the whole Veil inArmour, you and I and our
(07:57):
family have obviously have beenum very much inspired by the
teachings of St.
Jose Maria, right, in Opus Day,or the work of which we like
love love to call it uh veryaffectionately, the work of God.
And St.
Jose maria has taught us thiswonderful message of how to
bring and sanctify the ordinarylife.
And so you at home and being astay-at-home mother, you know, I
(08:21):
think that there were sometimes that you had to sort of
struggle with this because theworld likes to say that, okay,
yeah, you know, being astay-at-home mom is is something
to be looked down at.
And one of the things that I'venoticed over the time of our of
our marriage, of our 15 yearsof marriage, you could see here
that over time you start toreally see that this can be
sanctified.
This is there's an aunt, there's this is the most
(08:41):
important job.
And for myself, whenever I goto work, I I always think that,
you know, I am supporting themost important vocation here
because you're taking care ofour children, right?
And especially with this wholelike, you know, you being a
stay-at-home mom, but ahomeschooler as well.
The education of our childrenis the most important thing.
So, why do you think the thethe armor side is important?
Sheila Nonato (09:03):
I think the
armour side is important because
the husband um is a veryimportant support to the wife.
And in order for her to be ableto do her vocation uh as a wife
and a mother well, she needsthe support, not just uh, you
know, obviously the thefinancial support is very
important for the whole family, but also the prayer, the
(09:24):
spiritual support and theemotional support that, you
know, G.K.
Chesterton also said that themost important vocation is the
mother, is being a mother, andall the other vocations are
there to support it.
And and you've also said that.
Um, and I think it's important, you know, but it's kind of like
a hit, the hidden life ofmothers, uh, stay-at-home
mothers, that not, you know, there's not too much, I guess,
(09:46):
fanfare or um, you know, in theoutside world, it seems, you
know, like maybe boring, like, you know, dishes, dirty dishes,
dirty divers.
How is that glamorous, right?
If you compare it to, I guess, the Instagram world, right?
But, you know, the I guess thehidden life is important because
as you can see, Our lady, shealso had a hidden life.
(10:07):
You know, there's not muchwritten about her in scripture,
but her role in salvationhistory is pivotal.
We needed her to say yes inorder to re to help to for Jesus
to redeem humanity, that youknow, she was in she is the new
Eve, that she um in her humble, yes, in her humble um obedience
and submission to God, shehelped all of us to achieve
(10:31):
eternal life through JesusChrist, through the um death and
Crucifixion and Resurrection ofJesus Christ.
Joseph Nonato (10:38):
Yeah, and talk
about hidden lives as well,
right?
From so from the armour side, then the part that I'm trying to
reflect as well is is is SaintJoseph and talking about hidden
lives.
You know, there's not very muchwritten about Our Lady, but
there's almost nothing writtenabout Saint Joseph, and he never
said anything.
There's nothing recorded of himin in Sacred Scripture.
And so the whole idea of like, okay, well, the masculinity,
(11:00):
that that silent and strongexample that Saint Joseph gives
to us, it's uh it's it's veryimportant because, you know,
especially in this day and agewhere the idea of a man has been
sort of downgraded and sort ofhad dumbed down.
And you get this in in cartoonswhere the father knows nothing
or the father's just an olderbrother that we made fun of,
(11:21):
that kind of a thing.
To restore that back to themasculinity and the example of
Saint Joseph that has been givenis something that I think that
many Catholic men these days arestarting to wake up to, right?
Start saying, this is veryimportant.
What we do is noble.
And the nobility of what SaintJoseph did and quietly going to
work and going and and doing histhing, supporting the family,
(11:42):
being the night protector andprovider of of the holy family,
right?
It it's something that has tobe exemplified in especially in
this day and age.
And anyways, this is what I'dlike to discover uh through the
journey of a of the Veil andArmour podcast.
Right.
So where do you think we shouldtake our apostolate from here?
Sheila Nonato (11:59):
Um, I actually I
don't I don't know.
I think I need a lot of prayerand and also as a family uh
discernment because in order todo this um apostolate, uh, I
need all of your support.
Um, because you know, yeah, thethe household, it's very, very
busy.
And uh, you know, we um we haveto help support each other,
(12:21):
especially through prayer.
Um, I don't know.
Where do you guys think weshould where do you think we can
we can uh maybe meeting inperson, um having uh some sort
of a retreat for moms.
I mean it started small, butI'd love to meet other moms and
pray with them in person.
That's sort of yeah, what Iwould like.
Joseph Nonato (12:41):
I think that
that's uh that's an important
thing and and that trajectory, the whole veil part, I think you
should continue on with that, that discovering the the
femininity, the the the"feminine genius" of St.
Paul, as St.
John Paul II had talked about, right?
And and the in-person thing,right?
Obviously, in in apostolate, you know, the podcasting is good
because we can reach out to oneanother.
But as Saint Rosemary alwaystaught us, that apostolate has
(13:03):
to be done one-on-one.
It's person to person.
So if we're only just speakingthrough a screen, and if we're
only just talking through amicrophone or whatnot, you
really can't convert hearts.
So what really converts heartsthere is Jesus Christ, but
working through uh individuals,right?
So, okay, well, from thepodcasting side where I'd like
to discover it, especially inthe armour, as uh you've said
(13:24):
before and and to our audienceand whatnot, I'm an army
reservist, um, but I'm also areligion teacher.
And in the religion, what makesme good at one, I believe makes
me good at the other, or atleast I hope it sort of helps to
contribute that, not to saythat I'm an expert in either,
but I would really like todiscover, you know, especially
from the teachings of St.
Jose maria, how do you turn theordinary into something that is
(13:48):
extraordinary, into as whatMonsignor Fred Dolan says is is
a masterpiece, right?
And how do you turn that into amasterpiece?
So how do you take especiallythe life of a soldier, right?
And how do you sanctify that?
You know, the life of a soldieris is very busy, especially
when you're on deployment.
There's very little time foryourself, you're always thinking
(14:09):
about serving others andwhatnot, but how do you actually
fit Christ into this?
Right?
And we know that if everythingthat's noble that's out there
can be sanctified, how do you dothat?
Now, at least in my vision, anyways, being an army reservist
in the times that I've beendeployed or the times that I'm
working with the military,right?
I believe that the strugglethat is there in the ordinary
(14:31):
struggle, that's the strugglethat the first apostles had to
sort of deal with, you know, thefirst Christians.
They had to sort of live in aworld that was not exactly
welcoming to Christians.
They had to sort of make theirschedule fit the fact that the
presence of Christ is there.
I'm pretty sure they didn'tignore their prayer.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure theydidn't ignore, you know, reading
sacred or like contemplatingsacred scripture.
(14:52):
And in our day and age, how doyou fit in mass and the holy
rosary and your examination ofconscience and your angels and
all that?
How do you fit it into theregular day?
Now, obviously, St.
Jose maria taught all of thisto us, right?
Make it work, but specifically, how do we do that in terms of
from a military context and fromthe armour side of the house?
That's what I'd like to do.
(15:13):
I'd use that as a startingpoint, but not only with that.
Obviously, if you have if youcan do it in a military context
where life is super hectic, youcould probably do that in any
other context, in accounting andlawyering and all the other uh
busy things of uh the busyschedules of other men, right?
So at least that's where Iwould like to take it.
Sheila Nonato (15:33):
Okay.
And just when you're speakingabout St.
Jose maria, it's actually alink to Tammy Peterson because
she was praying the novena toSt.
Jose maria um and on day five, she was healed from uh the
physical ailments.
Well, she had can't surgery forcancer and then she had
complications.
There were serious compliccomplications to the point where
she lost, like I think, um, shewas down to 90 pounds.
(15:55):
Doctors can figure out what uhwhat was wrong with her.
And she actually went down to Ithink to Pennsylvania, to
Philadelphia.
Um, and you know, on the fifthday she was cured.
And I just also wanted to bringthe kids in because that's also
part of uh our apostolate is thek the kids when I have to work,
uh meaning I interview people, they the first the day, the
(16:16):
first time I interviewed her, they you you were all waiting in
the car for me.
Um I talked to her for about uhan hour and a half, and and
then when uh she was confirmedat Holy Rosary Parish in
Toronto, you were all there too,and it was a long mass.
It was the um Easter Vigil.
What what did you think?
I'm gonna ask the kids whatwhat was one memory from that
(16:39):
day?
Do you do you remember whatwhat was special?
Did you find it special?
What do you think?
Oh, lean, inlean (into the microphone.)
Raphaelle (16:48):
Well, it was the
Easter vigil.
And what what did you feel?
What did you feel at that time?
Did you do you have a specialmemory about it?
My special memory
airs is when the lights turn on.
It felt it felt so nice, sohappy. I felt like the new life entered into me.
Joseph Nonato (17:11):
Oh, you mean at
the "Hallelujah" when uh when
Easter was already proclaimed?
I remember how happy you were, but right?
Sheila Nonato (17:16):
And what about
when Mrs.
Peterson uh became a Catholic?
She entered the church.
Were you happy for her?
How did you how did you feel?
You're very happy for herbecause you you met her uh a few
times and then you met herhusband on that day as well, and
it was very special time.
And James was also very good.
Uh you know, he didn't fallasleep or anything like that.
(17:38):
You are all thank you verymuch.
That was such a gift that youall were there to also support
me in the the work I was doing.
I was writing for The CatholicRegister as well.
So that's a good thing.
Joseph Nonato (17:49):
Yeah, this is a
very the family's uh it's a
family apostolate, right?
And so in terms of time andresources, we understand that
uh, you know, this is not amoneymaker, we're not in into it
for for making uh any kind offunds, although it really what
it is is that how do weparticipate and contribute to
the mission of evangelization?
(18:11):
And since our entire family hasdecided this is the way we're
gonna go, right, and use thepodcast of the Veil in Armour to
try to bring the word of God toothers, right?
The family's also in in uhinvolved in it, and so the
children are there.
So I I love the fact thatyou're bringing in the kids to
help say the prayers andwhatnot.
But how has the apostate of theVeil in Armour podcast being
(18:35):
brought into the into our home?
How do how do you think it'schanged this?
Sheila Nonato (18:39):
I'm just trying
to think.
I think because we have more ofum purpose in our I guess we
you know, you we try to say therosary together as often as we
can.
When we're together in the car,we pray the rosary.
There's sort of it maybe it'scentralizes our mission that,
(19:01):
you know, I mean, before we werewe we want to be examples to
our kids, but now because thereare people listening or
watching, um, I sort of have I Istarted to read the Bible
again.
Y ou when you gave me the St.
Ignatius Study Bible forChristmas.
I started reading the Bible uhfrom the beginning.
So I'm only in Deuteronomy, soI'm going very slowly, but I'm
(19:24):
sort of trying to centereverything that I do, including
the apostolate, the housework, the homeschooling in prayer
before my own.
Well, I'm trying, it's hard, before my own, I guess, needs or
wants.
Because, you know, I mean, attimes there's no time for
prayer.
And then I realize, you know, that's, you know, you you always
say when there's no time forprayer, that's when you need to
(19:46):
pray.
So um I realized, yeah, before, like, oh, I don't have time to
pray, but now I realize I haveto pray because then what will I
say to people when I don't evenhave that foundation?
What you know, I need to haveknowledge too, to be able to
share the faith.
So when there are questionsfrom the kids, especially, like
I need to know what is the whatis the answer.
Joseph Nonato (20:09):
So yeah, what I
love of the fact that we've
gotten into this apostolate.
Yes, I've seen you read sacredscripture more, I've seen you
pray more.
And it's the whole principle ofthe fact that you cannot give
what you do not have.
And so with this, you know, ifyou're teaching, obviously we
who are teachers know that okay, you you teach and then you kind
of learn things you knowmultiple times, right?
(20:31):
Because you have to be able totake things from different ang
from different angles in orderto explain it, and especially
when the kids sort of askquestions, it becomes something
very useful.
But example is the bestteacher, right?
And the wonderful thing aboutthis is that I love the fact
that the kids can see youpraying, the kids can see you
reading Sacred Scripture, thekids can see you actually, you
(20:52):
know, putting it likeevangelization becomes a
priority for us, right, in thefamily.
It's not only just us lookinginwards, it's now us looking
outwards.
And in order for us to do that, then what ends up happening is
that, you know, the the thewhole family is sort of like
they they they see us, so wehave to be prayerful too.
We have to be prayerful first, excuse me, right?
(21:13):
Christ has to be the center ofthe whole thing.
So we can see uh Raphaelreading sacred scripture on her
own, James saying his prayers,Miriam also talking about this,
you know, with her Catechism andbeing very good at that, you
know, especially at the dinnertable and whatnot.
And the conversations in ourhome have been sort of focused
on Christ, and which is awonderful thing, right?
Good.
Hopefully, with all of theefforts with the Veil and Armour
(21:38):
podcast, it's not only aspiritual thing, but also
humanly and the human virtues.
Hopefully it's also helping tous improve, right?
You know, prudence, justice, fortitude, temperance, and
magnanimity, right?
These these virtues where wecan see ourselves we have to be
more patient, we have to bemortally, we have to be, you
know, and in order for the humanvirtues to be sh to be shaped
(21:58):
and formed within us, and in ourfamilies, in order for
supernatural virtues to to belived.
And so therefore for us to growin that in order to reflect
that in our in our uh episodesand whatnot, right?
Okay, good.
Yeah.
Sheila Nonato (22:11):
Yeah, and I just
wanted to thank everyone who's
been on the podcast.
Uh, Father Rob Galea fromAustralia, amazing singer, uh
evangelist, uh, who who came onas a guest when we had maybe no
subscribers.
And uh he's an amazing, amazinguh preacher as well.
Um, and Colleen CarrollCampbell, who used to be um
(22:33):
speechwriter for PresidentGeorge W.
Bush.
Uh, she was at the height ofher career.
Um, she had, you know, achieveduh everything really that uh a
journalist could would want toaspire to.
She was in the heart of thepolitical world, but she um she
realized, you know, I um mymarriage is gonna come first.
And so she she left that job.
(22:54):
And now she's a homeschoolingmom.
And I mean, the stories ofColleen and all the other women
that I've interviewed always uminspire me because, you know,
it's not always, you know, holiness doesn't always mean
you're um perfect, because youknow, sometimes you fall and but
then it's the getting up.
How do you get up?
How do you reach out to Jesus'hand, Mother Mary's hand?
(23:15):
And um, and that's also a wayof teaching your children that
it's okay, it's okay to failsometimes and it's okay to fall.
But you know, we we always havethe hand of God.
We can always reach out to himum to help us.
Joseph Nonato (23:29):
So yeah.
Yeah, life is messy andmiracles are messy, but miracles
are are God's work, right?
In in uh in a messy world, andit's a and and it's a wonderful
thing.
Right.
So yeah, I'm glad that we'reseeing that sort of, you know,
uh that light of Christ there inour lives, especially as a
family.
And I don't know, I've sort ofreflected over the past year and
(23:51):
a half of this apostolate, youknow, the number of people that
we've been able to reach umthrough this particular apostle
and the number of people we'vebeen in in in contact with, it
is totally a blessing.
Anyways.
Sheila Nonato (24:03):
And and it's not,
yeah, it's I mean, from this
conference, uh, the CatholicCreator Conference, I've sort of
come away with, you know, theit's not about the numbers.
I mean, it's great if, youknow, you have a million
followers or whatever, but themain um, as you were saying
before, Jesus is the maininfluencer.
Um, that He's the source ofeverything.
Um, all the the the purpose ofour apostolate, our mission, um,
(24:28):
and our our lives, really, ourfaith.
Um, and we we that's why wehave to have that grounded, the
grounding, the spiritualgrounding.
Um, because that's you know, that's that's the compass, you
know, that's the the path thatwe're supposed to be walking on.
Um that yeah, we, you know, Iyeah, the whole thing with um
(24:48):
these metrics that we see, likehow many likes, how many
watches, like even if you havelike as you were saying, I had
this amazing doctor, uh DermotKearney from the UK, um, who
does Abortion Pill Reversal, andI was looking at the numbers,
like 20 views, but you said, youknow, not to belittle that or
anything, but you said that, youknow, even if you say, you
(25:09):

have been worth it, right?
Because it's not really aboutthe numbers, it's about the
people.

They're not they're notsubscribers, they're actually
souls.
And you're trying to reach themand have have an impact.

keep on reaching out to uh tothe people, right?
(25:49):

can interview.
And then for my side there, Iwill try to help out with the
armor side of the house, right?
And so maybe you'll see someepisodes there as we as we
continue on.
And I will try to uh you know,uh show you exactly what we
talked about earlier, right?
You know, how to sanctify theordinary life through the
(26:09):
special circumstances of uh of amilitary, uh uh military
person.
Not that I'm the exemplar ofthat or whatnot, but uh again,
it's a journey, right?
