Your host Joey Awaijane will take you back in time to the classic video game Eras, dating all the way back to the Atari 2600 and the Golden Age of gaming, up to the mid-90s or so, around the Playstation One Era. Joey will occasionally have guests when available, to talk about these classics, from our perspective. Twitter: @VGF_Podcast Instagram: videogame_flashback Email: paladinolive@yahoo.com
We return to the Sega Master System, with one of your host's most memorable games for this particular console, believe it or not. Ghostbusters on SMS is a very colorful and lively game, compared to it's cross console competition, making it a much more playable game!

In this massive episode, I review what I view as the best Game Boy game of all-time. This action RPG has everything you could ever want, quality wise. FFA has a great story-line, a great sound track, length (without being too long), depth, and replay ability. So few people have truly experienced what this gem has to offer, and my hope is that this episode will encourage you to give it a try!

Time to jump into the legendary side scrolling beat 'em up arcade style that a lot of us grew up loving. This game hearkens back to not only those great memories, but also to the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon, that some of us would load up on youtube anytime, because we never get old!

We are starting off 2025 with a bang, as the much anticipated Mega Man 3 on NES review is here! You will hear the story how your host fell in love with this game and this series back in the summer of 1991. This game just has that magical vibe that separates it from the rest, you will hear why in this epic episode! You will also hear all of the amazing soundtrack that also makes this game so special indeed.

This is the game that started it all for me and my brother, when it comes to home consoles. The ultimate gamer beginning, as this was the original of the original six #NES games for our Christmas present in 1988! This is the beginning of great platformers and games that are played on more than one screen. Super #Mario Brothers is the game that rescued the video industry from the 1983 crash! #retrogames

It was an exciting time when our android hero made his Nintendo Game Boy debut, but this game would becoming one of the most frustrating platformers in the history of the system. Not to say this was a bad game, but not quite as memorable as it's NES predecessors. Here is our annual Halloween special, and we return to the great Castlevania series, with Castlevania 2: Simon's Quest on the NES! This is easily the most underappreciated of the NES trilogy, mostly because of the cryptic nature of the whole "Where do I go?" style this game portrays. Once you have some type of guide, this game is incredibly fun. The graphics and colors of this game far surpass the original, making this easily one o...
Another late summer Capcom NES classic, but fortunately for me, this particular game isn't nearly as hard as 1943 was last year. Willow is a flawed, but very enjoyable Zelda style action RPG, that does qualify as a decent port of a pretty good fantasy movie from the late 1980's of the same name! Sorry this review is longer than maybe it should be, but I really enjoyed making this review, after having to temporarily suspend ...
It's time to review the Sega Genesis version of this early '90's classic. The music and overall game play are fantastic, and will bring back many memories of our youth, as we roll through yet another big time Disney game. The controls overall are smooth, but in Castlevania side scrolling style, expect some cheap deaths, to bring up the difficulty!

We return to the Nintendo Game Boy, with one of it's all time classics, Super Mario Lane 2: Six Golden Coins. This game gives you more of a Super Mario World style format, but of course in Game Boy form. The music on this game is very energetic and relaxing at the same time. Despite some slightly jittery controls, this one goes down as one of the best action games on Nintendo's longest lasting system!

We finally venture into the first 16-bit game console, the Sega Genesis, and with one of it's most iconic titles: Golden Axe! Often times, great arcade games ported to home consoles were pretty disappointing, as the game quality would be downgraded by so much, but in this case, Golden Axe on the Genesis did not disappoint!

Here is a new installment, our first Minisode! Occasionally, I will release small episodes about best of, worst of, or special stories and memories over the many years in my gaming life. Here in Minisode One, I answer an X-Post question, as to "what game came in with very high expectations, that disappointed me the most?" Of course I came up with approximately two and a half, but do enjoy! Don't worry, VGF ep30: Golden Axe is right...
We finally venture into the legendary Nintendo Game Boy, and there might not be a better title in it's long illustrious history, The Legend Of Zelda: Link's Awakening! This game is incredibly special to your host, who bought it the first few minutes he knew it existed. When you listen to this episode, and get the feel of the entire game, you will be begging to play through this Mount Rushmore level portable masterpiece for ...
We return to the Super Nintendo, and present to you the first turn based RPG that I ever played or owned, dating back to February 1994! We commemorate the 30 year anniversary of that fateful step, in this very enjoyable review of Final Fantasy Mystic Quest on the SNES!

We go back to the legendary late 80's and early 90's with one of the better action platformers on the NES, without the name "Mario" in it, Chip 'N Dale Rescue Rangers! One of the staples of the Disney Afternoon, being brought to the NES was a definite success, and arguably a more entertaining style than it's predecessor in Duck Tales. This game had more levels, and allowed you to play a co-op style, which ...
We ring in the New Year for 2024, from the cold streets of Chicago, circa 1941, with the point and click mystery classic, Deja Vu for the NES! You've lost your memory and have been framed for murder and kidnapping! It's up to you to get your memory back, and solve this case, all while clearing your name. Can you do it? It's the VGF 2023 Christmas Special! This year, Bible Adventures on the NES gets the nod, as believe it or not, this game does provide your host many memories, and is perfect for this time of year. The true difficulty of this game is not the enemies or the levels themselves, its the controls! Though the enemies and levels do propose immense frustrations as well. Merry Christmas everybody!

After three straight insanely hard games, I figured it was time to settle down a little bit, and review the very first NES game I ever beat, that game was Breakthru, which was also an arcade game just a year earlier. What makes the game easy is the unlimited continues! Breakthru is also one of the "Original Six" NES games that I ever could call my own, dating back to Christmas 1988!

Joey has tortured himself once again, reviewing one of the hardest games of all time: We present to you the original Mega Man on the NES! Talk about hard! With that said, Mega Man has it's place in history, not just for being the game that started it all, or being hard as hell, but also the fact that the music, graphics, and yes, the game play is phenomenal for it's time, and more than worth a try, if you dare!

Here it is, the much anticipated Castlevania NES review, and the Halloween special for 2023! This game started it all for Konami, in the massive Castlevania franchise. In a lot of ways, I've always felt that this series should have remained a side scrolling platforming style, because in all honesty, why didn't it? This is Castlevania from my perspective, this VGF podcast refuses to "wing it" and hopefully will del...
