If you've been with me since thebeginning, bueno, thank you so
much for sticking with methrough this incredible journey.
(01:31):
And if you're new here.
You've joined us at such anexciting time because this
season is going to be unlike anyother, and mammies.
I have some huge news comingthat I'm literally bursting to
share with you.
(01:52):
You'll have to wait for just alittle bit if you haven't signed
up for a newsletter yet, now isthe time the Viva la Mami
newsletter subscribers will bethe absolute first to know about
this exciting announcementcoming Monday, May 26th.
So trust me, you don't want tomiss this one.
(02:15):
Before we dive into what'scoming this season, let me give
you a little update on life inthe Cuevas household.
Well, my boys are growing up sofast and it's just wild to me
how fast.
Time really goes by my youngestone, Mateo, will be turning two
(02:39):
this coming Monday, and I justcan't believe it.
I remember when I first createdthis podcast, I wasn't even
pregnant of him.
And Diego, my oldest, who willbe soon a four and a half year
old, was just around 18 monthswhen I started the show.
(03:01):
And so time absolutely passes bywhen you're in the thick of
madrehood with two little oneswho are for and under.
We are still in Chicago.
We are house hacking andhonestly, we're still figuring
it out one day at a time.
But you know what?
(03:21):
Something beautiful has beenhappening in our home lately,
and I've been watching my boysnaturally gravitating toward
their cultura.
In fact, just recently, we cameback from Mexico for a quick
trip, and I just love howthey're so connected with the
(03:41):
language.
Diego at this point is a Spanishdominant kid who really, Spanish
is all that he's interested inspeaking and so I am just
letting him really embrace hiscultcultura through language.
And Mateo is also developing hislanguage skills and.
I just love how they arecommunicating with mis
(04:05):
abuelitos, mis tios, mis tias, even my cousins who are back
home in Mexico, and they arereally embracing this sense of
identity that we often lose herein this country, in the United
States.
And so.
From them wanting to hearSpanish songs like 1,2,3 Andrés
(04:28):
and asking questions about ourfamily traditions.
It is such absolute joy to seethem really embrace their
cultura in a way that ourancestors really wanted us to
keep holding on.
And so these moments, like thesereally got me thinking.
And how many of us Latina momssometimes feel like we're kind
(04:54):
of caught between two differentworlds.
Like we're trying to honor wherewe come from while also
embracing where we are.
And this realization became theheartbeat of what Season five is
all about.
And so, you know, after.
Over 120 episodes now, which iswild.
(05:16):
Um, I've been reflecting on thisincredible journey that we've
been on together.
When I started Viva La it waspurely from the heart, a labor
of love from my own need to seeourselves represented, to hear
our stories, to feel less alonein this wild ride of being a
Latina mom.
(05:37):
And look at us now.
We have over 6,000 downloads andwe're still counting, and this
community just keeps growing.
But here's the thing, mommies, and I'm being completely honest
and transparent with you.
What started as this passionproject has grown into something
(05:58):
that deserves to thrive as asustainable platform.
And so we've built somethingbeautiful together and I'm ready
to take it to the next level.
Here's what's been on my mind.
Did you know that we as Latinasare the largest consumer group
in the United States?
We have incredible purchasingpower and that is over trillion
(06:23):
annually.
Yet, how often do we direct thatpower back into our own
comunidad?
How often do we support theLatina owned businesses that are
creating exactly what we need?
I've poured my heart into thisplatform because I believe in
(06:45):
the power of our community.
I believe in the magic thathappens when Latina moms support
each other.
And as we enter this new seasonon this podcast, I want to share
how you can be part of growingthis movement.
Especially because some bigchanges are coming that will
(07:08):
make this support even moremeaningful.
But first, let me tell you whatSeason five is all about.
Well, amiga, this season we arediving deep into something that
I believe is at the core of ourmahood journey, and that is
reclaiming our cultura.
(07:28):
I am talking about thosebeautiful traditions, practices,
and wisdom that are abuelas andmamas passed down to us.
The ones we might have tuckedaway because they didn't feel
modern enough or because weweren't sure how they fit into
our lives as modern mama.
(07:49):
And I've also been thinkingabout how there is beauty within
our Cultcultura, whether if youhave family from Mexico or
Guatemala or anywhere withinLatin America, or even Espania,
and our African ancestors aswell.
But what I've learned is thatour cultura isn't something that
(08:10):
we need to choose between.
It's something we can weavebeautifully into our modern
motherhood.
We don't have to be, we can be,and that's our superpower.
And so this season we are goingto explore how to raise
(08:32):
bilingual children without theguilt of not doing enough.
We're going to talk aboutancestral practices that can
actually support us in ourmodern parenting journey from
traditional postpartum care tohealthy remedies.
Our abuela, we're going to haveconversations about how to pass
(08:52):
down our stories, our language, and our values to our.
peques in a way that feelsauthentic and sustainable for
our busy lives.
And trust me, some of theconversations we'll be having
this season are going to take ona whole new meaning with the big
announcement I have coming up.
(09:15):
And so as always, you can expectare three types of episodes that
you've been come to love and thefirst one are.
My solo episodes, and I'll besharing my own journey of
reclaiming Cultura in myhousehold, the wins, the
struggles, the everything inbetween.
I'll be getting real aboutbilingual parenting and
(09:38):
maintaining traditions when youfeel disconnected from them, and
about finding our way back topractices that can actually
serve us modern mamas.
And let me tell you.
My upcoming adventure is goingto give me so much content to
share with you about thisjourney, and so stay tuned as I
(10:01):
will be sharing some more soloepisodes about this.
I'll also be having expertguests on the show who really
understand our uniqueexperiences as Latina mamas.
We'll be talking to bilingualspeech therapists, cultural
historians, traditional healers, entrepreneurs who are really
(10:22):
understanding how we can.
Embrace our cultura as bilingualmamas, as modern mamas, and
we're also going to interviewchild development experts who
can give us practical advice forhonoring our cultura while
raising confident biculturalchildren.
And of course, our.
(10:44):
VLM Spotlight episodes wherereal mamas, just like you share
their stories.
This season, you'll be hearingfrom many mamas who are being
intentional in raising bilingualchildren, mamas who are
incorporating traditionalhealing into their families'
(11:04):
wellness routines, and mamas whoare creating new traditions that
blend the old with the new.
And of course so much more.
But I am being intentional aboutthe guests and the topics that
are discussed in this season asit comes to how we can reclaim
(11:26):
our cultura.
And it's really beingintentional of how we have that
superpower in being right and.
embracing just like how we canbridge these two identities into
one really, and that this iswhat makes us unique as mamas
(11:49):
who are Spanish speaking, whoare Latinas, who are
bicultcultural, who aremulticultcultural or
multilingual.
And so this is the essence ofthe season, and here's something
exciting for you.
Starting this season, we're alsoexpanding to YouTube.
I have a YouTube channel.
(12:10):
If you didn't know that, and myaudio episodes automatically go
to YouTube.
So if you are not like an Appleuser or a Spotify user, or
Amazon or whatever other podcastplatform you utilize, YouTube
also has a way for my episodesto convert.
(12:30):
On YouTube, however, these arejust audio based.
It's just like the image of mypodcast cover, but I.
This time around, I will behaving video.
And I initially had that in thevery beginning when I had the
bandwidth, but then lifehappened and I became a mama of
(12:51):
two, and life was just busy.
But now that I'm in a seasonwhere I'm, for the most part,
solely dedicating my.
business, I am able to now editand, be able to really have this
YouTube channel to beintentional.
And you'll be able to see facialexpressions during personal
(13:15):
stories.
And for our expert interviews, you'll be able to see.
Them as well.
And so if you prefer to watchthese podcast episodes on
YouTube.
Now there will be video ones andthere will also be additional
content on YouTube that is inaddition to the podcast, so I'll
(13:37):
be sharing that more as timegoes on.
But just to let you know thatwe're also going to exist on
YouTube.
And so now I want to share fourways that you can support Viva
la Mami as we grow into this newseason.
And trust me, your support isgoing to be more important than.
Ever with what's coming.

Latina maas who truly get it.

connections and more meaningfulcommunity experiences,
especially with some of thechanges coming to Viva la Mami.

deserve spaces createdspecifically for us by us.
When you engage with Viva laMami, when you share our
(17:13):
content, when you tell anothermommy about us, you are creating
ripples.

elevates our voices.
And so if you are feelingdisconnected with your cultura.
If you're one of those mamas whofeels like you don't know enough
to pass anything down, wellAmiga this season is especially
(17:38):
for you because reclaiming ourcultura isn't about being
perfect or knowing absolutelyeverything.
And trust me, even though I amraising Spanish dominant kids,
this doesn't mean that.
The mental load isn't real likeit is so real.
The mental load of bilingualparenting is so real, and it's
(18:02):
about being curious, askingquestions, and taking small
steps towards honoring our rootswhile growing into the mamas
that we want to be.
So send me an email if you haveany questions or you wanna share
your story or if you have any.

cultcultural practices thatyou're curious about, the

Already weaving cultura intoyour motherhood journey.

(18:44):
it signing up for our newsletterbefore Monday.

reclaiming our cultura together.

You don't have to be the perfectkeeper of traditions.
Also, you just have to bewilling to explore.
To learn and to honor thebeautiful blend of who you are
and where you come from.
(19:25):
