What is a pelvic organ prolapse? It's when your internal organs in the pelvis slip down from their normal position and bulge out of the vagina. If you think it's rare, think again. One in every four women suffer from this non-life-threatening but uncomfortable and deeply embarrassing issue. Dr. Gillespie, an acupuncturist and doctor of Eastern medicine in New York City, describes her terrifying moment of a pelvic organ prolapse, following the birth of her child. She also discusses the importance of pelvic floor exercises and lifestyle changes to avoid prolapse, as well as some ancient Chinese remedies such as "binding" that she employs.
