impactful segment of Voices ofInspiration.

(00:44):
I'm your host, Amelia Old, andin this episode we are exploring
how travel changes yourperspective and traveling for
self-discovery.
Solo travel is a remarkablejourney of self-discovery.
It's about embracing the thrillof solitude, learning life's
invaluable lessons and forging aprofound connection with the

(01:06):
world.
It's an expedition that fosterspersonal growth and
transformation.
But here's the twist Solotravel isn't just about the
external world.
It's also a deep dive into ourinner landscapes.
When we travel alone, we createmoments of solitude and

(01:26):
reflection that allow us to gainnew insights into ourselves,
our dreams and our place in theworld.
Solo travel excites theadventurer in us.
It's the joy of charting yourcourse, making spontaneous
decisions and fully immersingyourself in your surroundings.
The world becomes yourplayground and every moment is a

(01:49):
potential adventure.
Navigating unfamiliar territoryalone can be a formidable task,
but it's also a powerful teacher.
Every challenge, fromdeciphering complex public
transportation systems tofinding your way through unknown
streets this buildsself-reliance and

(02:09):
problem-solving skills.
Traveling alone heightens yoursenses.
You become more attuned to thesights, the sounds and the
sensations around you.
This heightened awarenessfosters a deeper connection with
the places you visit and agreater appreciation for the
world's beauty.
Moments of solitude andreflection, these solo moments.

(02:34):
They provide an opportunity forintrospection, whether you're
silently witnessing abreathtaking sunset or sipping
coffee in a bustling cafe.
These interludes of solitudeallow for self-discovery and
personal reflection.
Traveling alone it doesn't justchange the surroundings.
It transforms your perspectiveon life.

(02:56):
It challenge your beliefs andit broadens your horizons.
You learn to embrace theunknown and find beauty in
unexpected turns.
Now let's weave these insightstogether with practical tips on
how travel changes yourperspective.
Number one embrace theunfamiliar.

(03:18):
Travel it often takes us out ofour comfort zones, and that
might mean trying a dish thatyou can't pronounce, or
navigating foreigntransportation systems, or
immersing yourself in a culturethat fills worlds apart from
your own.
Embrace the unfamiliar.
When I was younger, I had theworst fear of sitting alone and

(03:38):
having a meal, whether that waslunch or dinner or a cocktail.
In my 20s, I think many of ushave taken food to our cars
during our lunch breaks.
Looking back, though, it wasn'tso much of me being afraid of
being somewhere alone.
It was me being afraid of whatothers thought of me being alone
.
I know that sounds silly, andyou know we can't worry what

(03:59):
others think, otherwise we maymiss something magical in front
of us, and that's probably atopic that I could speak on in
an episode all on its own.
I remember the first time Iwent to London by myself for a
travel conference.
I was really scared.
I didn't wanna miss anything, but I was afraid of doing
everything by myself.
But I made sure to go torestaurants and go sightseeing,

(04:21):
and of course I had to usetransportation, and it was scary
, but I learned that I wasperfectly capable of navigating
my way around.
I was perfectly capable ofsitting and having a meal alone
and just taking in thesurroundings.
Connect with locals.
Engaging with locals canprovide insights into a place
that guidebooks can offer.
Strike up conversations, askfor recommendations, participate

(04:44):
in local activities.
The connections you form can beamong the most rewarding
aspects of your journey.
I know I spoke about this inlast episode, but I will forever
push how important it is to getto know the locals.
If you're on a solo trip, Iunderstand how scary that may be
.
I get it.
Just make sure you're taking onsafety precautions.
I mean, don't hop in a car witha stranger, don't walk down

(05:04):
dark alleyways at night alone.
Be smart, however.
Getting to know the locals willallow you to understand the way
of life in the destination youare visiting Far more than it
will if you're only focusing ontouristy activities.
Be open to change.
Travel rarely goes exactly asplanned, and that's not a bad

(05:24):
thing.
That can be a good thing.
Be open to change andspontaneity.
Some of the most memorableexperiences occur when you allow
your journey to take unexpectedturns.
My husband and I were notreally big on schedule trips
like.
We don't like big itinerarieswhere you have to be in this
place at this time and thatplace at a different time.
It's more fun to see where theday and evening takes us.

(05:45):
Often this includes takingrecommendations from locals.
During a visit to Paris, weended up in an underground bar
that was actually featured in LaLa Land.
I don't speak French but Iended up dancing with a local
and he spoke French to me theentire dance and told me what to
spin and what to dip and whento turn.
I really have no idea exactlywhat he said to me, but I just

(06:07):
kind of gathered and he probablythought I was the most awful
dancer.
But it was still fun and it wasstill a great experience and I
have all of these memories fromthat, from traveling off the
beaten path.
Practice mindfulness.
Mindfulness is the art beingpresent in the moment.
When you travel.
Try to fully immerse yourselfin your surroundings.

(06:27):
Take in the sights and thesounds and the sense around you.
It can help you appreciate thebeauty of each place you visit.
Challenge your assumptions.
Travel challenges theassumptions and stereotypes we
hold about other cultures.
Be mindful of preconceivednotions and allow yourself to

(06:48):
see the world with fresh eyes.
Approach each destination withan open heart and an open mind.
Embrace solitude.
Solo travel can be particularlytransformative, as we've talked
about.
It forces you to rely onyourself and allows for
introspection.
Embrace moments of solitude anduse them as an opportunity for

(07:11):
self discovery and personalgrowth.
Keep a travel journal.
This is one of my favoritethings.
Write down your thoughts andexperiences at the end of each
day.
This can help you process yourjourney and capture the changes
in your perspective.
It's a valuable tool for selfreflection.
How did you feel?
What did you do?
Did the day go as planned?
Did you try new food?

(07:34):
Did you learn something new?
Your thoughts on paper maysurprise you.
