Vải là cây có giá trị dinh dưỡng và kinh tế cao, vải thiều được trồng nhiều nhất ở Lục Ngạn Bắc Giang cho năng suất cao suốt nhiều năm qua. Đây được xem là giải pháp tăng trưởng kinh tế của người dân ở nhiều khu vực. Tuy nhiên, nếu áp dụng đúng kỹ thuật trồng cây vải thiều và có quy trình chăm sóc vải thiều hợp lý, bà con nông dân có thể trồng vải thiều ở mọi nơi trên đất nước với mức năng suất cao nhất.
Các giống vải
Vải thiều Thanh Hà: Quả gần tròn, vỏ quả đỏ vàng, quả nhỏ, trọng lượng 15-20gr/ quả, hạt lép, tỷ lệ cùi/quả 74%, ráo nước, ngọt thanh, thơm, hơi có vị chua, chín vào tháng 6, tính ổn định cao.
Vải thiều Phú Hộ: có 2 dạng quả, quả nhọn, hạt lép và quả tròn hạt to. Vỏ quả đỏ thắm, quả to, trọng lượng quả 30gr/quả, tỷ lệ cùi/quả 70%, ráo nước, chín sớm hơn vải Thanh Hà 5-7 ngày.
Vải Xuân Đỉnh: Đặc điểm gần giống vải Thanh Hà, quả to hơn, vỏ quả màu đỏ thắm, chất lượng ngon.
Chọn đất
Cây vải không kén đất, yêu cầu quan trọng nhất của đất trồng vải là phải thoát nước, tầng đất dày, tuy nhiên đối với trồng bằng cành chiết, bộ phận rễ phát triển kém, đưa lên đồi phải giữ ẩm tốt và giữ cho cây khỏi lay gốc để đảm bảo tỷ lệ sống sau trồng cao. Đối với đất đồi, trồng vải phải chọn nơi có độ dốc thấp dưới 250C, nhất thiết phải trồng theo đường đồng mức và phải có băng cây chống xói mòn.
Thời vụ trồng
Cây được trồng vào 2 vụ chính đó là vụ xuân và vụ thu. Thường vụ xuân trồng vào tháng 3 – 4, và vụ thu trồng vào tháng 8 – 9 hằng năm. Mật độ trồng: 400 cây/ha, khoảng cách trồng 6m x 4m.
