Podobnie jak nazwy i właściciele, przez wieki zmieniała się też jej funkcja. Była domem kupieckim, łaźnią, a także jedną z pierwszych krakowskich księgarni. Można w niej było kupić ponad 1500 tytułów. W XIX wieku kamienica stała się też miejscem ostatecznego spoczynku mopsiczki Gypsi, którą jej ekscentryczna właścicielka postanowiła pochować w podziemiach. Epitafium poświęcone swojej pupilce arystokratka nakazała wyryć na tablicy, na której widnieje do dziś.
