Hello, darling,

and Show Up podcast with yourhost, portia Scott.
This podcast is a collection ofinterviews and stories weaving
together life's pivotal momentsand the decisions made to show
up and impact humanity, oneperson at a time.
Hello, darlings, and welcome tothe Wake Up and Show Up podcast
(00:32):
.
Well, actually, welcome back tothe Wake Up and Show Up podcast
.
I'm your host, portia Scott.
I'm super excited because it'sbeen a while, but there's
something I've been working onand I've been scribbling it down
in my notebooks and in my notes, but I hadn't had a chance to
get behind the mic and say whatI've been scribbling.
(00:52):
I've actually been holding itreally really close to my chest,
really really close to my heart, and I hadn't told anyone about
it because I wasn't sure how Iwanted to communicate it with
the world.
So, while I can't promise youfull episodes right away, what I
will do is kind of bring youinto the moments of gratitude
(01:12):
that I have, that I haveexperienced, that I think about.
If you've watched my Instagram, you've listened to my podcast,
if you've watched any of my liveshows, if you've been in any of
my keynotes, one of thequestions that I always ask is
what are you grateful for?
For me, it is grounding.
(01:33):
Gratitude is not this thing thatsuperimposes the reality of
life.
It's not something that issupposed to cause you to push
down your natural, your raw andreal emotions, whether high,
whether low, whether in between.
But gratitude really is thatmoment of pause when the world
is kind of heavy and it feelslike the weight of the world is
(01:53):
on your shoulder.
You know that feeling where itfeels like you just can't get a
breath.
Gratitude is a pause.
Or have you ever had thosemoments where you're super,
super excited and life is justamazing and maybe you're on a
family vacation or you're withsome friends and in this moment
that almost makes your eyeswater because you can't believe
(02:15):
that you are right here.
Gratitude gives you pause.
It's like that moment ofstepping out on a date for the
first time, or having your firstchild, or going out to a really
fancy restaurant, or maybegetting on the plane for the
first time.
All of those emotions are mixed, but gratitude gives you pause.
(02:37):
Gratitude is not this thing thatwe just want to make it seem
that life is just like swingingthrough the dandelions or
swinging through the roses orwherever it is that you want to
swing from, but gratitude allowsus to pause.
Gratitude reminds us of themoments that we can't relive,
(02:58):
but we can always remember.
It triggers us to be remindedof those moments, those moments
of excitement, those moments ofjust being, the moments we need
to think about when life hasstarted.
Life is parenting is parenting, wife is wifeing, husband is
husband, entrepreneur isentrepreneur, career is career.
(03:21):
But gratitude allows us thismoment of pause.
Gratitude not only gives uspause, but it also brings us
together.
It's the glue to humanity thatI think is often just lingering
out there, and sometimes wedon't say it out loud, but we
say it internally.
We've been going on a walk orhike and we've seen a deer and
(03:42):
we're like, wow, that'sbeautiful.
That's gratitude.
We've been looking up at thesky and we're like, wow, it's
raining so very hard.
But where's all this raincoming from?
Gratitude, maybe we tickled thetoes of our children and heard
them laugh.
Gratitude.
Maybe it's that moment whereyou take the knife for the first
(04:03):
time and you realize thatcooking is your love.
Gratitude, maybe it's thatmoment when you're walking down
the aisle and you realize I'msitting in this white dress and
man, I've never imagined this,or I have imagined this
Gratitude.
Gratitude is the moment thatyou're holding someone's hand in
the hospital and they've beentold some really bad news, but
(04:25):
you're there and you have thismoment Gratitude.
Gratitude is that moment whereyou've been going and doing and
doing and a door finally lookslike it's open and then it
closes.
Then it's the lesson that youlearned after that.
That's gratitude.
And so what I aim to do are togive you these little snippets
(04:50):
of gratitude for your day.
They're called espresso shots.
Not a big coffee pod or a bigcoffee mug, but just a quick
espresso, almost like sittingoutside in a café in Paris
enjoying a croissant, enjoyingyour espresso as you people
watch, because sometimes eventhat is gratitude.
(05:13):
So I invite you to come alongthis journey, as we explore
these moments of gratitude, that, when we are bawling our eyes
out and we don't know if we canget out of bed, that we have
this one moment of gratitude.
Or maybe it is when we are inour car and we're in non-stop
traffic, like it is in Atlanta,la or DC, and we're like I have
(05:36):
a car gratitude.
These are just espresso shots, ways to express our gratitude
Besides gratitude, just being apause and being a glue that
connects to humanity.
Lastly, gratitude changes theperception of our current
situation, of our current moment, because sometimes situations
(06:00):
don't always change because ofgratitude.
But in that moment, I decide tochange my moment, to change my
perception, for this one second, this one minute, this one
moment, for this one hour.
And so let's take some time andthink about what we are
(06:23):
grateful for.
So I want to ask you, in thismoment, what are you grateful
for?
As always, we end every show atthis declaration Waking up is
automatic, showing up isintentional.
Today I will show up.
(06:44):
