Senator Cooney is Chair of the Transportation Committee, and focuses on modernizing New York's infrastructure, increasing street safety, and advancing new forms of mass transit, including high speed rail.
In 2021, he was named co-chair of the Marijuana Task Force for the Black, Puerto Rican, Hispanic & Asian Legislative Caucus and he was instrumental in passing landmark legislation to legalize adult-use recreational marijuana. He now serves as the Chair of the Senate's Subcommittee on Cannabis, where he has made meaningful changes in tax and fiscal policy for the legal recreational and medical cannabis marketplaces.
