Who's going to be coming outwith a new cup?
I can't wait to see it.
I bet it's already done.
Probably just hasn't shown itto me yet, but I just I'll be
glad when I get.
It's already done, probablyjust hasn't shown it to me yet,
but I just I'll be just gladwhen I get it.
Her creations are just amazing.
I like it when she just usesher artistic talent to just put
(02:15):
everything she can into the cups.
But I'm off in the weeds.
But we're going to talk aboutsomething that's very we're
going to kind of follow up onwhat we did last week.
Last week we talked about Ro,fruits of the Spirit, right?
So this week we're going totalk about how to basically
(02:35):
fight against the Holy Spirit.
And I'm saying this in this waybecause you can do it, you just
don't want to do it.
You really don't want to resistthe Holy Spirit and you don't
want to grieve the Holy Spirit.
No further ado.
We do have a lot of scripturewe're going to get through today
(02:56):
.
So I think it's prudent for usto say, when we do have a rule
on this podcast, we talk about ascripture.
We want to make sure we have.
The rules are be the first ortwo above, or first or two below
(03:17):
, but preferably the wholechapter.
That's the rule of this podcast.
Why?
Because I can take thescripture from any parts of the
Bible and make it say whatever Iwant it to say, and this is not
just JJ, it's anybody.
But this will also get youdeceived and get you to believe
in the wrong things, which thewhole purpose of this podcast is
(03:39):
to believe the entire Bible andunderstand its sovereignty and
why it's important to believethe correct way.
Right?
So remember a verse or twoabove, a verse or two below, but
preferably the whole chapter.
So, without any further ado, let's go into what we're going
(04:02):
to talk about today.
Now you can sin against the HolySpirit.
I know it's not a popular topictoday.
Everybody thinks that you know, sin is not a thing, but it is
absolutely a thing.
One of the primary ways thatyou can resist the Holy Ghost
(04:28):
actually sin against the HolyGhost is absolutely resisting.
They were talking about it inActs, chapter 7, verse 51.
That says you, stiff neck anduncircumcised in heart and ear,
you can always resist the HolyGhost as your father.
(04:50):
So do you.
Let's go to context here.
This is Stephen.
Stephen is basically preachingto a bunch of religious people
and he's basically telling themthat you, even though you call
yourself religious, you have notbeen doing what the Holy Ghost
has been trying to tell you todo.
(05:12):
You've been going on with yourtradition, you've been going on
with your belief.
You've been going on with youruh tendency to be sanctimonious.
And it got so bad you read therest of that.
They literally ran up on himand started biting like they
were really so aggravated.
And you can tell when peopleare not really ready to face the
(05:34):
truth of what they're doing.
Their mouths just start doingweird things, they start
pinching their jaws, they startyelling at you and cursing you
out.
So if you ever start talking tosomebody, you get right where
they are, space and everythingright.
(05:56):
One of the things aboutresisting the Holy Ghost, though
, it's about rejecting God, andit is kind of committed when you
as a sinner, or me as a sinner, you know and the Holy Ghost is
dealing with us and it gets inus and we feel that conviction.
(06:19):
Some people think it sort offeels like condemnation to them,
but it's really just convictionand you just kind of shuck it
aside, you get rid of it, youdon't pay attention to it, and
the problem is that you get tothis position where, in Genesis
(06:40):
6 and 3, where it says theSpirit of God would not always
strive for man you end up in aplace where God sort of backs
away from you Right Now.
This is not the same as theperson who is back to you.
I've been away from you RightNow.
This is not the same as theperson who is backstabbing.
I've been backstabbing, whichkind of leads us to the next way
you can sin against the HolyGhost, which is despising the
(07:03):
Spirit.
Hebrews 10 and 29 it says thatit has done despite unto the
Spirit of grace.
Now, again, staying in context.
You have to stay in context.
It just makes it clear that thisis how backsliders work and
this is coming from somebody whowas a backslider.
(07:25):
You end up getting a sort ofcontempt, a sort uh kind of
taking god for granted right now.
How does that work?
So to think about it, like theway what happened with esau and
I know this is back in the oldtestament, before people got
(07:45):
told to think about whathappened to Esau he despised his
birthright because he thoughtit was always there.
He didn't think he had to takecare of it.
He thought, if he just saidsomething or had sort of a
lackadaisical attitude towardsit, that it was always going to
be there and he did not stand upand fight for the thing that
(08:09):
was rightfully his, did notstand up and fight for the thing
that was rightfully his.
So when he sold it forbasically, a bowl of soup and he
came back and tried to get itback, he couldn't get it back.
The birthright had already beenpassed to Jacob.
And in Hebrews 12 and 17, ittalks about how Esau sought
(08:33):
repentance for what he had done.
But what was done is done.
And I say this because, as abackslider, we kind of get like
this and it is very, very, verydifficult to come back to God
and I'm saying this again as abackslider and have watched
(08:55):
other people backslide and nevercome back Because you can get
to a place where you're justkind of like in a spiritual
no-man's land.
You know you're upset at Godbecause he changed you.
He changed you and then thedevil told you that he made you
weak.
So now you kind of turn yourback on God Because you feel
(09:17):
like you were stronger Beforeyou met the Holy Spirit.
But this is not true.
You know the devil is alive, right.
So you get to this point whereyou try to come back to God and
it is much more difficult.
It is much more difficultBecause now, instead of taking
(09:38):
it for granted, you gotta workdouble or triple hard.
That's just the way God has itset up.
And there are some people thatnever make it back and those are
the truly hard stories and I'veseen it.
(09:59):
You know, they just never makeit back or one of the sins that
took them out ends up killingthem.
You know Jesus talked about adog returning to his mama.
And you know, when you come toGod and God takes all of the
things out of you, he takes theneedle out of your arm, he takes
(10:22):
the strange persons out of yourbed and he takes the idea of
you being able to steal and getaway with it.
He takes it out of your mindand out of your zeitgeist and
all of a sudden you decide thatyou want to go back to that the
same stuff that you vomit goback to, and you end up ODing
(10:45):
and that kills you.
You end up being in the bedwith somebody else's wife and
then the husband comes in with adouble barrel shotgun and blows
you away.
Or you end up, uh, feelingsomething, the wrong thing from
the wrong person and they, youknow, do you blow you away.
And when you end up runningfrom the top and wrap yourself
(11:06):
around the tree and there's somany things that can happen in
the act of being vaccinated thatI still thank God every day
that he did not allow me to getthat far before drawing me back.
Now.
This is different thanblasphemy.
(11:28):
I think we kind of talked aboutthat last week.
This is different from you know, having a contempt of what God
has done for you, because beingblasphemous is unforgivable,
unpardonable and it's really.
It comes out of your mouth, butit's because it's in the heart
(11:49):
and Jesus says this in Matthew12 and 44, because out of the
abundance of the heart, themouth speaks and it would seem
that this would be done bysomething that you would say,
but it is prompted by your heartthat despises the Holy Spirit.
And remember that this isdifferent from being a
backslider, as long as, forinstance and I'm just using me
(12:14):
as a defense when I backslide, you know, I always knew God was
there.
I knew God was there.
I was very careful about sayingthings that sort of put God in
a negative light or somethinglike that.
But when people, sometimespeople are back, when they get
reprobated, and in thatreprobation space, I've seen a
(12:39):
lot of people blaspheme God andthose are unforgivable, and I'm
so to the point where I don'teven want to give you guys an
example because I don't want tobe guilty of it, right?
So it's important to understandthe context of how this is laid
(12:59):
out and where this all comesfrom.
The devil is all aboutblaspheming God.
If you have a, if you thinksomething is cool, and you
better check it out in the biobefore you say it, because all
you gotta do is change one wordand that cool thing comes back.
(13:20):
So, uh, it's a very solemnwarning to all of us to be
careful.
How, uh, how you uh judging themanifestation of the Holy
Spirit.
Now it becomes imparnablebecause you know better.
(13:47):
That's why it's imparnable.
You know better.
And again, it's not the same asbeing backslid, and I want to
make this distinction very clear.
Being backslid, you still knowthat hey, you're out here, yeah,
it's different from being in aposition where you're backslid
and the fact that you know Godis there and you know God is
(14:09):
waiting for you to come back, god is really trying to draw you
back.
And this is a situation wherewe look at the parable, where we
talk about how Jesus left the99 and went and grabbed the one
lost sheep.
That means the person wasalready a sheep and he left, he
(14:29):
got lost, and God went and leftthe church and went and grabbed
that one sheep and brought himback.
But blaspheming the Holy Ghostis kind of like again I'm trying
to be very careful, metaphorically speaking here
that the sheep went away andturned into a goat and he's not
(14:53):
going to bring the goat back tothe flock, he's just not going
to do it.
So that's, and I'm reallytrying to be careful for a few.
I don't want to bash him Holy.
So Now that we've got thatsettled, we can talk about how
(15:19):
we get to the point of grievingthe spirit or getting to the
point where we backslide Inorder to do that.
You can sort of kind of grievethe spirit first and the
Ephesians 4 and 30 and justwithout reading it because of
the time that we have Ephesians4 and 30, it talks about we are
(15:44):
not the Holy Spirit, but we aresealed by the day until the day
of our death.
This has to do with fruitbearing and having a life of
holiness.
So if God is trying to tell youor give you a conviction, or
God is trying to move in yourlife or move you in a certain
direction, you don't breathe theHoly Spirit.
(16:04):
By trying to resist it.
Now we kind of make it a littlebit more difficult than it
needs to be because we get tothe point where we have a very
special sort of a way that wejust sort of talk to the way we
(16:26):
feel like it.
We get careless, we get, we getlax, we get sort of lazy in the
way we live for God and thissort of draws us back into the
world because we start trying tobring in worldly things into
our Christian walk.
(16:46):
And I'm sure if you've evergone into some of these places
where they've hurted themselvesin churches, you've seen it.
A lot of worldly stuff is inthe church and this leaves the
Holy Spirit.
Now, when this happens, god isnot necessarily mad, he's more
(17:09):
sad, sorrowful, because you'veallowed this worldly thing to
prevent you from getting to adeeper relationship with God and
you end up holding on to thisthing.
It's kind of like trying to diveinto a pool, like you have on
the tank and you have a scubagear equipment.
(17:30):
You got on a wetsuit, you gotthe tank, you got the snorkeling
, you got the base thing and yougo to dive into the.
You want to go all the way downto the deepest part of the
ocean, but you have thisflotation device.
What's the purpose?
Dive into the, you want to goall the way down to the deepest
part of the ocean.
But you have this flotationdevice.
What's the purpose?
You have a flotation device, you have a pool noodle that is
(17:53):
designed to keep you at the verysurface of the water.
But you go ahead and you'retrying real hard, but that pool
noodle or those boogie boarddeals will not let you get so
far into the ocean or whereyou're trying to swim, so you
never get to see the deep partof it.
(18:15):
You never get the fullexperience of deep sea diving
because this thing is alwaysgoing to try to pull you back to
the surface.
This is how, spirituallyspeaking, breathing the Holy
Spirit keeps you fromexperiencing all that you need.
Then let's just say you get out.
(18:37):
Now I'm going to quench the HolySpirit, which is another term
that we use when it talks aboutsin against the Holy Spirit.
Now, quenching the Holy Spiritis a little bit different.
I would kind of direct you to 1Thessalonians, 5 and 19.
Now this has to do withoperating of gifts.
(18:57):
Now, I know everybody you knowis operating some gift, some
Holy Ghost, right, and I saythat very loosely.
Everybody you know is operatingsome gift, some Holy Ghost,
right, and I say that veryloosely, because you know good
and well they're not livingright, but all of a sudden they
got gifts from the Holy Spiritright.
This has to do, though, when youtalk about preaching the Holy
(19:19):
Spirit.
It has to do with ministry, butit also has to do with service.
Let's say, for example, youknow you go to your church and
you notice that I don't knowsomebody left a wrapper on the
pew that you're walking past.
If you keep walking past it,when the Holy Ghost has
(19:40):
basically got your attention toit and put in your heart, just
for that moment, that maybe youshould pick this up, and you
keep on walking with it anddon't pick it up, that is
clutching the Holy Spirit.
That means you are putting outthe fire that God is trying to
put in you, that God is tryingto put in you Now.
(20:06):
That is the glorified way ofsaying you are refusing to allow
the Holy Ghost to have his wayin your life.
If you know somebody you got afriend that works.
You got a friend that you talkto often, and they're having all
these problems, and you don'tspeak to them about God,
especially because there's goingto come a moment that it's
(20:29):
going to be right there.
Well, you know what God can getyou through this.
Jesus still loves you.
The same, like we talked aboutat the end of every episode Tell
someone that Jesus loves you, because that's probably the only
positive thing they're going tohear that day.
If you don't do that, thensomebody is not going to A get
(20:51):
that seed that Jesus loves themor that God can help them
through the problems, or God iswaiting to accept them and love
them and be born inside of them.
Accept them, love them and beborn inside of them.
But you are quenching thespirit that is in you, because
the Holy Spirit in you wants youto reach out to them, and we've
(21:13):
all had that happen.
No one's perfect, not even me.
But you have somebody sayingsomething and you say you know
what?
That would be a great moment toend the moment.
And you're like, oh my God.
And you just refuse to talk tothem, you refuse to witness to
them because they did you wrongor something like that, and you
(21:36):
get to the point where you areliterally quenching the Holy
Spirit.
But here's the big one, andwe're going to wrap it up with
this.
I really blew through all ofthese, but I really want to
spend some time on this last one, lying to the Holy Spirit.
Well, jj, how in the world isthe Holy Spirit in me?
(21:58):
He knows everything about whatI'm thinking about.
How do I get to lie to the HolySpirit?
I'm going to tell you, becauseI've done it.
Go to Acts, chapter 5, verse 3and 4.
Satan has filled thine heart tolie to the Holy Ghost, and this
is the thing that we end updoing.
Some people do it on purpose, some people do it accidentally
(22:22):
purpose, some people do itaccidentally and then don't
repent about it.
That's the problem.
This starts with a lack, of alack of surrender, and it's kind
of professing a level ofcommitment to God that we know
is not happening, and this ishow it manifests of commitment
(22:46):
to God that we know is nothappening.
And this is how it manifests inAnanias and Sapphira.
We say, hey, I'm going to selleverything and this is what I'm
bringing, but we're not reallydoing that.
We're just sort of putting ongood air and we're holding some
of it back.
I take you back to the poolnoodle and the deep ocean dive
story.
You're diving, got everythingon, you look like a diver, you
(23:11):
act like a diver, but you'restill holding on to that pool
noodle Now, is it because you'reafraid of the deep water?
I don't know.
That's something that you'regoing to have to work out with
God.
You have to be honest withyourself.
But if you're sitting theresaying, I'm not afraid to go as
far as I want to go in God, butin your heart you know you are,
(23:34):
you're lying to the Holy Ghost.
Of course he knows thedifference.
He knows that you are afraid.
He knows that you're holdingsomething back.
He knows that.
You know you tell you, tell himthat you're holding something
back.
He knows that you know you tellhim that you're going to fast
more and you don't.
He knows that there's somethinggoing on with you that's going
to prevent that.
He knows that.
But he also will convict youthat you don't repent of it.
(24:00):
This is where you're going toend up lying to the Holy Spirit.
It's going to get you introuble.
Think about let's go back toAnanias here.
Remember Ananias did not diebecause he kept that part of the
price, but because he lied andhe said he brought it all While
at the same time keeping part ofit back.
(24:24):
And you'll also hear people Ialso tend to use the word
tempting the Holy Spirit, because you're kind of tempting
God to say well, god, are yougoing to call me out or no?
Are you going to make sure I'mtelling the truth?
This is a very dangerous partof your spiritual walk of faith
(24:46):
Because it puts you in aposition where you it goes far
beyond being a hypocrite, because a lot of people are a
hypocrite accidentally Like, okay, in this example, example,
we'll use cigarettes you telleverybody oh, I have to quit
(25:07):
smoking.
God delivered you from smoking, but that urge is so bad within
you that you just have to sneakthe cigarette right.
That's different from somebodysaying, oh, god delivered you
from cigarette smoking and youjust went and bought a whole
pack.
It seems like it's a smalldifference, but you buying the
(25:31):
pack symbolizes that you have nointention of giving up.
You have no intention of givingup whatever.
It is that consecration thatyou're trying to say, that
you're giving, that you're doing, or that you are not really
trying to enjoy the fullness ofyour walk with God, but you
(25:54):
really want to have that goodsurface which is really, really
your line to yourself, your lineto God and your line to
everybody.
So be careful, especially.
It's really, really.
You're lying to yourself, you're lying to God, you're
lying to everybody.
So be careful, especially if Ihad to rank it in order of
(26:14):
importance, you know sinningagainst the Holy Spirit, which
is almost all equally bad exceptthe blasphemy All the rest of
them, if you really buckle downand say, god, look, I've been
playing before, but now it'stime to be serious.
God, I need you to help me beserious.
All of it can be taken care of,except that blasphemy.
(26:36):
So you've got to be verycareful with that blasphemy.
That one cannot be forgiven.
I didn't say that.
Jesus said that.
I have nothing to do with that.
If it was me, I would say, yeah, go ahead and forgive it.
Let's all have everybody go toheaven.
No, no, no, no, no.
I don't fight the rule, I'mjust telling you what the Bible
(26:58):
says Blasphemy against the HolyGhost is a no-no, that is a
death threat.
And the problem is, my biggestfear is that some people will
blaspheme against the Holy Ghostand remember this is a sin of
knowing, not an accidental sin.
(27:19):
This is a sin of knowing.
And then they'll try to actlike they live for God, but God
will pull that Holy Spirit fromthem and then they end up going
to hell.
But the rest of these you knowgrieving the Holy Spirit and
quenching the Holy Spirit orlying to the Holy Spirit or
despising the Holy Spirit orresisting the Holy Spirit all of
(27:41):
those you can repent of.
You can say you know what, likeI said before, you know what.
God, I've been playing, I'vebeen slacking, I haven't been,
I've not been yielding to yourHoly Spirit.
But, god, I need help.
I need help to do this.
Please, god, help me do this.
(28:02):
And if you really mean that Godis going to help you, do that.
Now I will tell you as we wrapit up.
Be careful when you say that, because every time I've said
that I've ended up in a trial,I've ended up in a trial, I've
(28:23):
come out stronger spiritually onthe other side of it.
So on one hand I'm saying, becareful how you say it, but on
the other hand I'm saying, sayit because the sooner you go
through and you learn thoselessons, the better and the
stronger your walk with God willbe and the more useful you can
(28:46):
be for the kingdom of God, toyour family, than just trying to
play around with it and beingscared about it Right.
I know this was a heavy episode, I know, but we made it through
and I thank each and every oneof you for making it all the way
to the end of this.
(29:07):

Now, if your question, I willforewarn you that if your
(29:28):
question is more than just likea one or two line answer, I will
probably make an episode for it, because that means it's a lot
of nuances or something that hasto go into it.
So, with that being said, ifyou want me to mention your name
in the episode, all you have todo is you know, you don't have
to send me any money, nothinglike that.
(29:48):
All you have to do is put yourname in the subject line, like
Claudia did the other week.
Just put it in the subject lineand that way I know you want me
to mention your name.
Otherwise, I'm just going toanswer the question and I will
try to let you know who I'm.
Well, that is your question, but I just wanted to use your
(30:10):
name, alright, god bless.
Each and every one of you Tellsomeone that Jesus loves them,
and as long as you know, too, that Jesus loves you too, that's
why you're here.
Alright, see you all on thenext one, god bless.
