The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has approved the South Carolina Office of Resilience’s (SCOR) Action Plan for allocating more than $150 million in Community Development Block Grant – Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) funds in response to the devastating impacts of Hurricane Helene.
“This approval is a key step in getting much needed disaster recovery assistance to South Carolinians,” said Ben Duncan, South Carolina’s Chief Resilience Officer and head of SCOR, the agency responsible for overseeing the program.
The approved plan includes a comprehensive assessment of unmet needs following Hurricane Helene and outlines how the funds will be used to support long-term recovery. According to the plan, South Carolina faces $2.1 billion in unmet needs, with $1.7 billion in housing-related needs alone.
