As the federal government shutdown enters its fourth day, travelers at Charlotte Douglas International Airport say operations are still running smoothly, even as concerns grow over how long that will last.
“We were concerned about it, but I haven’t noticed anything,” said Rick Willoughby, who was traveling with his family Saturday. “It’s all just been business as usual for us, at least at this point.”
Willoughby said his family looked up information online before their flight, bracing for potential disruptions.
Despite the steady flow of passengers, federal employees behind the scenes - including TSA officers and air traffic controllers - are currently working without pay. Nationwide, the Department of Transportation says more than 11,000 FAA employees have been furloughed, including those in safety inspections, maintenance, and training.
