Rahab: Faith, Wisdom, and God's Bigger Plan

This Bible Study lesson was facilitated by Reverend Lettie Carr. It explores the story of Rahab, the prostitute in Jericho, found in Joshua chapter 2. As Joshua led the Israelites into the promised land, he sent two spies to Jericho who sought refuge in Rahab's house.

Despite her profession, Rahab demonstrated discernment and faith by hiding the spies from the King of Jericho. She recognized that the Lord had given the land to the Israelites, stating, "For the Lord your God, He is God in heaven above and on earth beneath". Rahab made a deal with the spies to spare her and her family, marking her house with a scarlet cord. This cord is presented as a symbol of the Passover blood and a foreshadowing of the sacred blood of Jesus.

Reverend Carr emphasizes that we should not look down on others based on their background, as God can use anyone. Rahab's wisdom and shrewdness in aligning herself with God's plan led to her salvation. Her actions demonstrated her faith, as highlighted in James 2:25.

The lesson points out the remarkable transformation of Rahab, who became part of the community of Israel and is listed in the genealogy of Jesus. She is also celebrated in the hall of faith in Hebrews 11:31. Rahab's story illustrates that our past does not define us, and obedience to God can transform our destiny. Her journey exemplifies God's inclusive grace and the power of faith in action. Reverend Carr underscores that sometimes, like Rahab, those who might be overlooked are the very ones who recognize God's work and align with His purposes.
