Speaker 1 (00:04):
you're listening to the wdym the what do you mean?
Podcast hamilton's number onepodcast now sit back and relax.

Speaker 3 (00:16):
Here's hamilton's own , michael gillespie welcome to
the wdym podcast.
I I'm your host, michaelGillespie.
As Kobe said, hope everybody'sdoing good, hope everybody's
doing well.
If you live in England, aroundthe Liverpool area, and you like
the color blue, this episode isfor you.

(00:39):
We are talking the recentupsurge, upswing that the
Everton Football Club has beenhaving recently.
We're going to talk aboutwhat's all been happening as of
late and, yes, because of thepaid intro that I did, we'll
talk a little splash of thosedamn devils from Manchester

(01:01):
United.
Nevertheless, this is a RedToffee show today, so, without
further ado, let's kick off theshow properly with the Red
Toffee intro.
Red Toffee intro.

(01:41):
So the only thing I'm sayingabout man United is that, hey,
we play them this Saturday andthey are below Everton.
How, how wonderful is that Tosay that Manchester United Is
below Everton?
Yeah, it's one spot, one point.

(02:03):
They're 15th.
They are almost three spotsaway from relegation.
Let me say that one more timeFor all my Manchester United
fans that don't believe what I'msaying Manchester United is
closer to relegation than we are.
Let's not get it twisted.
Let's not get it twisted.
Let's not get it.

(02:24):
Let's not get it wrong thateverton.
For the past couple years wehave been flirting with the
enemy, flirting with relegation, and to all my non uh football
slash soccer fans out there, relegation means basically
second division.
Like you stink so bad, you needto go refocus yourself, get

(02:44):
yourself together and get betterto get back into the first
premier division in England.
Imagine if the NFL hadrelegation and promotion.
It's just to me.
In my opinion, that's the bestway to do sports.
Your team cannot take off awhole year to get a draft pick.
You have to play or you getrelegated, and everton, along

(03:06):
with the manchester united reddevils, are two of the six clubs
that have never been relegatedsince the premier league started
back in 1992.
Those six clubs are unitedmanchester let's be fair
Manchester United, everton, chelsea, arsenal, tottenham and

(03:30):
the other red club, liverpool.
To see not only ManchesterUnited struggling but Tottenham
also struggling this year, it'sa breath of fresh air for an
Everton fan to say hey look, weare currently not struggling
with relegation this year.
We're not getting deducted anypoints this year.

(03:51):
We're actually playing goodfootball right now.
Sean Dyche was the skipper, headcoach, manager of Everton
Football Club for the past threeyears two and a half years give
or take a half year and hisstyle.

(04:14):
From what I see, his style ofplay was to hey, if we get to
win, great, don't lose the game.
We rather tie than lose game.
We don't want to lose points atall.
And to say this year has been astruggle with him as the head
coach is an understatement.

(04:34):
We were flirting withrelegation yet again and it is
painful to see this.
It's painful to watch yourfootball club struggle year in
and year out, not because ofpenalties or having quality
players, anything.
That's never been the case.
It's just maybe his philosophyis not that good.

(04:56):
I've always questioned him whenit comes to making changes.
Making a change that, hey, thisis not working.
Maybe substitute a player hereor there, change tactics,
something right and I believethat he was on his way to
getting there with some of theadditions he made this season,
but nevertheless his tacticswould not change and that

(05:20):
unfortunately costed him his jobat Everton.
On January 9th he was sacked orfired, however you want to put
it.
The general idea was like whatare we going to do?
Because right now we don't have?
Let me just say Everton was notthe shiny nickel that they were
in the past.

(05:41):
I have never seen Everton do atrophy run, do a top five
anything since I've beenwatching them regularly Now I've
been a fan since 2010, and I'vestarted watching more and more
recently because we're not goingto afford a in a subscription

(06:04):
and I watch it.
You know, it was on espn forlong.
Now it's on nbc and I'll watchit whenever I get an opportunity
to.
So I'm more invested in theclub now to see how they're
doing and I love how we play.
I love the style of playeverton does.
I love goodison park.
I love the fans.
I love everything about Everton.
Let that be known.

(06:25):
So when Coach Sean Dyche wasfired, I was like who are we
getting?
Who is going to fill the shoes?
Who wants to come to Everton?
Because they were like I don'twant to be in a relegation
battle.
Oh, you know, there was talksof Jose Marino.

(06:46):
I don't think he's right forthe club.
There was talks of othercoaches and everything, and I
think even Graham Potter I thinkhis name is Graham Potter.
Graham Potter was talked aboutthe job.
He didn't take the job.
So who would take the job.

(07:06):
Enter David Moyes.
Now that name might soundfamiliar if you're an Everton
fan and everything.
David Moyes was a previouscoach at Everton.
So one thing that I've alwayssaid in my life if I ever do
something wrong and negativelike, let's just say, have a
girlfriend and we break upyou're supposed to just leave
that in the past, keep lookingforward and not look back.

(07:27):
But David Moyes, former coach, everton guy, what could be wrong
with that right?
What could be possibly wrongwith him coming back?
Because if you remember how heleft, he left to take the
Manchester United job after SirAlex Ferguson, one of the best

(07:48):
coaches of English football ofall time.
He left and he wanted DavidMoyes to take over at United.
I mean, what do you do in thatsituation?
You know, if Sir Alex Fergusonasks you to do something, you're
probably going to do it andthat's where you know.
I don't fault him for that.
So we fast forward to now wherehe comes in and he comes in.

(08:12):
I think they fire Dyche onJanuary 9th, I believe, and then
January 11th we hired DavidMoyes and the community was like
a 50-50 split, like we can'twhat he's going to do.
You know he stinks.
Blah, blah, blah, blah.
I'm like give this man a shot.
You know what more can we lose?
David Moyes is Everton.

(08:35):
I remember him being there andwatching him play and he had a
style of play.
He has a track record of beingan excellent coach, an excellent
manager, whatever you want tocall it, gaffer, whatever they
say over there.
But yeah, give this man a shot, right?
So his first game is againstAston Villa, whatever you want

(08:57):
to call it.
His first game was Aston Villaand we lose 1-0.
But I don't count that as aloss, I mean in the record book.
Yes, it's a loss, but he's justgetting there.
So he's like he has to assessthings, do things his way, and
it takes more than a coupleweeks, a couple days, just for

(09:17):
him to get into it.
So we lose to Aston Villa.
And then we have Totten,tottenham.
Now tottenham is one of theclubs in london, one of the big
six, quote unquote.
And it's it's a terrifying gamebecause they spanked us for
nothing.
Earlier in the year.
I was watching this game andwhen tottenham plays there's,

(09:40):
they have a super fan called umoozing expressions, and he gets
so animated when it comes toTottenham Win or lose he's
animated about.
He's more passionate.
He's probably the mostpassionate fan I've seen online
when it comes to their soccerclubs.

(10:00):
I've never seen a guy go all in, win or lose for his club.
That's why I respect him,that's why I watch him, I
subscribe to him and everythingOozing expressions.
He's freaking hilarious, by theway, win or lose.
So I'm watching his watch alongwith me.

(10:21):
When it comes to the Evertongame, before the game even
starts, and I decided to chimein.
I decided, you know, to take myshot To say, hey look, it would
be a shame If Tottenham lost toEverton.
That's what I said, somethingabout that, something like that.
I said that to him and he readmy comment, right, and this is
what he said.

Speaker 1 (10:40):
But yeah, nah, we can't lose Well, nah, we can't
lose.
Well, if not, we can't becausewe can.
Tottenham Hotspur can lose toany team, but we better not lose
to Everton.
I'm being dead serious.
Better not lose, fam.
I'm not having it bro.
I've had my 11.
I'm not saying that that'sgoing to be it for the whole
season.
Yeah, but, bro, how I think ourlast win that I remember, yeah,

(11:02):
was Southampton.
Yeah, we lost to Newcastle, arsenal, newcastle.
Our last win, I remember, wasSouthampton.
Wolves was a draw, southampton, brother, our form in the league
has been absolutely shockingblood, it's been absolutely
shocking fam.
Yeah, I'm telling you, bro, these men, they owe us blood,

(11:22):
they owe us fam.
We need a win.

Speaker 3 (11:25):
They heard that, like you said, tottenham can lose to
anybody, but we bet, not loseto Everton, right?
If you're an Everton fan, youknow how this went.
You know how this went.
Surprisingly, we won.
Each goal, he gets more andmore animated.
Let's start with the first goal.

Speaker 1 (11:45):
The first goal was by dominic calvin lewin oh my day,
oh my day, you f***ing idiots,my goodness, blood, for f***ing
sake, for f***ing sake, man, Id*** it bro, I swear down.
Clown defending, clown,defending, clown, defending.

(12:08):
What's the matter with theseman?
These man look drunk blood.
What kind of defending is that?
These man literally look drunk, doing up the drunken master
when they're defending pricks, fam, I've had it now.
I've had it bro, I've had it.
I've had it now.
I've had it bro, I've had it,I've had it.
Blood, I've had it, fam.

(12:28):
Absolute bruv.
So I've had enough of this, bro.
Look at the way Gray got turnedinside out, inside out, laundry
, blood, laundry.
Oh, laundry, fam, laundry,laundry.
Oh, laundry, fam, laundry,laundry.
Just look at that Absolute joke.

(12:49):
Turned inside out, my goodness, fam, Calvert-Lewin, you know,
calvert-lewin blood Chanelhandbags.
Calvert-lewin blood Chanelhandbags.
You get me Backless loafers, fam, with a heel, brother, this
is a disgrace, a disgrace, fam.

Speaker 3 (13:12):
So it's one, merle Everton, my goodness, brother, I
had to look up what was hetalking about Chanel bag.
And what did he say?
Backless.
I'm telling you, man, thisguy's freaking hilarious.
He said something handbag andbackless heels, or backless
shoes with the heels on.
I had to look it up what he wastalking about.

(13:34):
And yeah, dominic Cavaloonlikes his purses.
I guess I don't knock the man, just come out and play some
soccer, play some football, whatever it is.
So right now, 1-0 againstTottenham.
And it gets worse.
Let's add another one forEverton.
Make it 2-0.

Speaker 1 (13:51):
Ridiculous bruv, oh my God, again, again, again,
again, again, oh my God, no,it's over.
No, that's it.
Game out, it's over, it's over2-0.
Everton, everton, fam, everton, brother, these men dancing

(14:13):
around our defenders, season'sdone, season's done, season's
done.
Bruv Season is done, bruvSeason is done, fam, it's done.
Blood, it's done.
Bruv Season is done, bruvSeason is done, fam, it's done.
Blud, it's done, fam, and I'vehad enough watching this blud.
I've had enough.
Brother, if man knows what'sgood for him, you better not
leave Goodison Park withoutthree points.

(14:35):
Blud, I don't give a d***, Idon't care, fam, I don't care.
Who's this Brother?
Brother, look at mc harvey.
Look at mc in harvey.
Blood, 21 seconds, fam, who'sthat cooking man?
Nah, brother, look dragerson, you're signing, ang dragerson,
yeah, you're signing in the highline.

(14:56):
Yeah, this is your guy.
Oh, we ain't got our defenders, mike, yeah, this is your guy.

Speaker 3 (15:05):
I'm so sorry, but he's so animated and the thing
is that this was two.
The final score was Three totwo.
We got another goal To hear himspill over.

Speaker 1 (15:19):
Look at that free nail.
Free f***ing nail, free f***ingnil, free f***ing.
Sack him.
Sack him.
Sack him.
Sack him now, at half time.
Sack him now at half time.
Done, we're done, he's gone.
He's gone.
Get him out blood.
Get him out, fam.
Get him out.
I don't give a d***.
Sack him now, right now, rightnow.

(15:41):
I don't give a.
Sack him now, right now, rightnow.
I don't want to see him in thesecond half, I don't want to see
him in a second half.
Sack him now, bro.
The game's done, game's done, game's done, yeah, done, done.
This is the worst of the lot.
I promise you, fam, I've lostto Ipswich Palace, bournemouth,

(16:01):
but I've lost to everyone this.
This is the lot, this is theworst.
This is the worst.
This has got to be the worst, brother, I don't want to see him
in a second half, bro, don'twant to see him.
I want him and the whole staffout.
I want Mason gone, I wantJedniak gone, I want everyone
gone, everyone that's got to dowith this whole season.
Sack them, bro, right now.

(16:23):
Fam, brother, brother, I wantto see the job advert on right
now, bro, let me refresh.
I want to go on Indeed and Iwant to see the job listed Gone.
I want him gone.

Speaker 3 (16:36):
So it would appear that Moyes Magic is back at
Goodison Park and we're beatingTottenham Hotspur 3-2.
It was a little nervy when theygot that second goal, but it
was already towards the end ofthe game.
Yes, this is Everton and wecould lose anyway, because it's
happened already this year, butnevertheless we get a win over a

(17:00):
bigger club than us at the timeand it's great.
It's a great feeling to get awin like that and you would hope
that it carries over to thenext game and in fact it does
Again.
Moyes magic, it does work, butat first we lose our striker.

(17:21):
It does work, but at first welose our striker.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin hasprobably the worst luck ever
since joining the club.
He's been riddled with injuriesand it seems like the man has
lost his confidence.
And it sucks to see this happenbecause under Sean Dyche under
him, he refused to take him out,he refused to give Beto, which

(17:47):
is the substitute striker.
We have a fair shot and some ofy'all who are true Blue fans,
true Everton fans, might say, well, he's gotten starts before.
Yeah, he has against ManchesterUnited.
We might say, well, he's gottenstarts before.
Yeah, he has against ManchesterUnited and he's put the effort
in, but we always come up shortagainst Manchester United.

(18:07):
So when this happens, we allpanic.

Speaker 4 (18:14):
And this is bad news indeed by the look of things for
Everton.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin, whoended that long, long run
without a goal last week, they've very nicely taken one to
open the scoring against Spurs.
Looks to have re-injuredhimself.
He holds his hamstring.

Speaker 2 (18:34):
He's in despair, isn't he?
I can understand that Everybodyhas sympathy for a player
that's going through this run ofform in terms of injuries.
He is so key.
There's no contact there.
You can see him holding theback of his leg.
It's clearly a hamstring injury, no contact.

Speaker 3 (18:50):
When he said that no contact, and he just jumped up
and his hamstring strained.
He's out the game.
So Beto comes in.
He's out the game, so Betocomes in.
And the thing that I like aboutBeto is one I think once he's
given the opportunity to showhis talent, he's going to shine
In my book.
Yeah, he's just never given, inmy opinion, a fair shot at

(19:15):
playing the game.
So DCL goes out with an injuryand because of the hustle that
Beto got, he forced the defenderto get a handball, which
results in a penalty, one of thefirst ones we ever got this
year.

Speaker 4 (19:33):
Tim Robinson agrees with him.
Oh, no way, I can't do it.
Brighton concede a penalty.
A moment of madness, really, from Joel Beltman.
Beto was going nowhere and thatincident has just been shown on

(20:00):
the screen and you can see ithas not gone down well with the
good folk of Sussex.

Speaker 2 (20:09):
In fairness, they might be slightly biased.

Speaker 4 (20:17):
So a penalty is rewarded, and nevertheless,
Illiman Ndi Steps up to take Ndislides it into the corner and

(20:42):
Everton lead at the Amex.

Speaker 3 (20:46):
So, again, more is magic.
Plus a sprinkle of Beto equalsa 1-0 win over Brighton.
So that's two wins overdominant or the season-dominant
teams that are above Everton.
You would think that you know, hey, getting two wins is cool

(21:08):
and all, but that's it.
You know Everton's?
We're in the bottom half of thetable.
There's no way that Everton canget any more wins, right?
Yeah, yeah, we got a cupcake, you would think, against
Lancaster City.
Now they are at the bottom ofthe table, they're in the

(21:29):
relegation zone, which meansthey're going to get demoted if
they keep playing like this.
And they got to come toGoodison Park to play Everton.
What happened?
I'm glad you asked Kickoff,Kickoff, Kickoff for the game.
If this happens in your firsttwo, three, four minutes of the

(21:51):
game, it's probably going to bea good game.
The kickoff of theEverton-Nancaster City game.

Speaker 5 (21:58):
The Blues can make it three wins in a row for the
first time since April last year, and they've got themselves a
great chance, and an earlychance as well, as it runs all
the way through.
And what an opening to Coreywith a lightning start for the
Blues straight from the kickoff.

Speaker 3 (22:17):
Now, what you don't see was Beto setting a pick for
him to score that goal 1-0 inthe first 45 seconds.
This is going to be a good day.
It's that good of some part.
We're up 1-0, and we still doplay defense right?
What else happened in that game?
I'm glad you asked.

Speaker 5 (22:41):
Beto's chasing one again here.
It's a chance for another twogoals in the space of six or
seven minutes here at goodisonpark.
And it's beto.
It's his first premier leaguegoal since october, so beto
getting some player time, he'sproducing.

Speaker 3 (23:00):
I'm not saying, you know, unfortunate that DCL got
hurt, but Beto's actually giventhe chance to produce and he's
producing.
Who would have thought, oh me,that's right me.

Speaker 5 (23:14):
They're not really making a great move towards the
ball.
And here's Beto again now, andit's three.
Well, they waited and theywaited Everton, and eventually
they played Beto through andhe's done it again.

Speaker 3 (23:36):
So one thing about that Gardiner had a great pass
to Beto to set him up for hissecond goal 3-0 Everton.
And we're not done yet, o'brien.

Speaker 5 (23:49):
And Dye Gardner just couldn't take it in his stride.
But Dye's won it back and it'sfour.

Speaker 3 (24:01):
So Everton does this thing, wins their third in a row
.
Four-nothing we're on a roll.
Right, that is nine points inthree matches.
Relegation what?
No, no, no, that's not us.
No, no, no.
We are nowhere near therelegations.
We're playing on all cylinders.

(24:22):
We got beto in there.
Who who looks like he wants toscore, and the team is exciting
to watch again.
This is, this is flashback tolukaku years.
Ramalu lukaku was our strikerand he scored like this.
And then this is this is thisis great.
As an everton fan, this is thisis what I want.
But up up next we haveLiverpool.
Liverpool, which is our innercity rival and is at the top of

(24:46):
the darn table.
And this is the last time thatEverton and Liverpool will play
at Goodison Park, because nextyear we're moving to a new
stadium.
We can't, we can't leaveGoodison Park with Liverpool
beating us, and that's the maindrive.

(25:06):
This game was on, I believe wason a Wednesday.
This is like the key matchup ofthe week, and to have Liverpool
, who's been dominant for yearsnow, and this inner-city rival
and you have this inner-cityrival that's just been doing so
good recently, always inChampions Leagues, always in the

(25:28):
battle for the English PremierLeague title.
They're always in it right, sothey cannot come into Goodison
Park and beat us, not like no,not at the last rodeo.
We can't have that.
So what happens?
What happens Again?

(25:50):
Beto Given the opportunity, hescores.
What's wrong with that?
1-0 Everton Right now atGoodison Park Against Liverpool.
This is working, but again, youcannot underestimate Liverpool

(26:12):
because here they come Comingback scoring whenever they want
Like so.
So it's 1-1 for most of thematch and then, towards the end,
those red suckers, they do itagain.

Speaker 6 (26:34):
Here's Diaz now Putting it into the six-yard box
and Liverpool get it back toJones and that is a very decent
save, but he is there to smashit home.

Speaker 3 (26:46):
So this was roughly around the 74th, 75th minute.
Liverpool takes a 2-1 lead.
That usually equates to anEverton loss, but I'm saying the
spirit of the Blues is a realthing.
It's a real thing, especiallyat Goodison Park against your
nasty butt red rival.
We get this and an extra timetoo, scores the equalizing goal

(27:30):
to give Everton a 2-2 tieagainst the league leaders,
liverpool.
And, of course, liverpool upsetwhining about well, everton's
celebrating like they won thechampionship.
Dude, you're not beating us onour last trip to Goodison.
Just don't.

(27:50):
That's not going to equate.
Stop it Right.
You're not coming up in hereand beating us on our last
hurrah at Goodison Park.
We basically said no, no, no,no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,
no, no, no, no, no, no.
You're not doing it.
So a point earned againstLiverpool, well-deserved, hard

(28:14):
fought Point earned againstLiverpool, I'll take it.
I'll take it Because I'mwatching.
I think I was at work at thegame and I couldn't watch the
game, so I'm only watching itthrough scrolling, looking
through, you know, on my phone, and only seeing the updates of
the score.
And every time I see an update, especially that last one when
it was 2-2, I thought it was anerror because I refreshed it and

(28:36):
it went back to 2-1.
I'm like, oh, shoot, we done.
Lost our last game againstLiverpool, but nevertheless, 2-2
tie, goodison Park and the gamethat happened this past past
couple days the 15th againstcrystal palace, what can happen?
What can happen?
Well, what's what's beenhappening?

Speaker 6 (28:53):
an everton win oh, that's a lapse in concentration
by crystal palace, which allowsalcaraz to feed beto.
Beto for everton, beto foreverton.
Again, a A lightning counterattack following a Crystal
Palace error and Everton are infront before halftime.

(29:14):
Beto, he's on fire.

Speaker 3 (29:18):
Very glad you said that, because the boy is on,
sorry, the man is on fire.
Scoring at almost at will Tellme, just as a reminder of the
Ross Barkley, romelu Lukaku era, where we could score and this
time we could defend, so we goup 1-0, and yet, if you're an

(29:40):
Everton fan, you know this isnot permanent.
Here we go.

Speaker 6 (29:45):
For Everton In the corner, headed away by Lindstrom
, sent back in by Wharton.
Everton are there again, butthey have two players going for
the same ball and Mateta puts ithome, free kick lifted into the
penalty area, harrison Stayingin play and O'Brien appeals for

(30:06):
handball and Young slams itGoldwoods and Alcaraz sends it
home are excited that we won 2-1at Crystal Palace, and so
that's what I think.

Speaker 3 (30:24):
Let's do the math real quick Three points against
Tottenham, three points againstBrighton.
Three points against Tottenham, three points against Brighton,
three points against LeicesterCity, one point for Liverpool
and three points against CrystalPalace.
3, 6, 9, 12, 13.
13 points since David Moyes'return, since Dominic Cavallone
got hurt and since Beto has beenput in the starting lineup.

(30:45):
So all signs are pointingupward for Everton and I cannot
be more excited for that.
I'm glad the club brought DavidMoyes in.
I had no problem with that atthe beginning, a little shaky,
like hey, you know, once you dosomething in the past and you go
do it again, you know, are yousure about that?
Yes, yes, we are.
Beto, as an actual threat atstriker, has rejuvenated the

(31:12):
whole club in my opinion, andthis Saturday is the ultimate
test because we're playingManchester United at Goodison
Park.
I'm going to just be honestwith you.
We do not have the best trackrecord against Manchester United
.
We don't.
Let's just be honest with that.
But with the latest upswingwe're taking, there's no doubt

(31:33):
in my mind that Everton's goingto win.
It's 7.30 on Saturday.
So I'm glued, I'm stuck.
I'm watching, are you, and Ihope you do.
I hope you get to check outthis win by Everton.
Hopefully I'm jumping toconclusions and everything, but
I do want Everton to win.
We'll see you on Saturday.

(31:54):
It's just always, again, it'sManchester United and and I, we
always struggle againstManchester United because last
time we had, we lost.
We always lose to Manchester.
What am I talking about?
So that's what we're lookingfor, but the run we've had, the
upswing we've had, has beenremarkable and we're almost.
You know the season's not overyet and things could happen, but

(32:18):
one thing that's not going tohappen is relegation.
Now, not for us, maybe forManchester United, but not for
us.
There's no better way to endthe show than with this.
What's going to happen Saturday?
We'll find out.
I'm your host of the WDL, I'mMichael Gillespie and I'm out
Boy Scout, girl Scout, peace,peace.

(32:46):
I'd say glory, glory.
I'd say that's the right score.
