Joseph is such a unique person in the Bible. He is the earthly, adopted father of Jesus, charged by God with raising a King and yet very little is known about him. As a matter of fact, Scripture doesn’t record one word that he has ever spoken but his legacy echoes even today.

There’s an old expression that says “your reputation precedes you”. When you have a good reputation that’s great news. But what happens when your reputation and past are not great? We wish people would just forget our failures, mistakes and sins. In Rahab’s story we see that God doesn’t want to gloss over our reputation – He wants to redeem it.

Family names are important in almost every culture in the world. Behind each name are generations of rich history but also so sordid pasts. The Bible is full of those stories and family lines because God never tries to cover up failure or sin. How He responds at times, however, can be shocking. Worship is not what we do – it’s who we are. As Christian’s it’s actually “whose” we are. Intimacy with God not only inspires us to respond to the Jesus but it also inspires others. The question is - does our worship inspire others toward Jesus or away from Him?

In one way familiarity can bring intimacy or connection. But becoming too familiar or too comfortable often has the opposite effects.
