SPEAKER_02 (00:05):
Hello and welcome to the We Recommend Podcast, a
movie podcast where every weekwe recommend a movie for you to
watch, and then come back hereand listen to us discuss.
I'm Jesse.
I'm Jason.
You know, you don't have to dothis, because I can just poop it
out.
Cause this week we recommendGame Knight.

(00:28):
Hell yeah, bro.
So, Jason, what'd you think ofgame night?

SPEAKER_00 (00:33):
It was pretty funny.
I liked it.
It was entertaining.

SPEAKER_02 (00:36):
It's got so this is the first time watching, right?

SPEAKER_00 (00:38):
Yeah.
Yeah.

SPEAKER_02 (00:39):
It's kind of what did you ever hear of this movie
before?
No.
Is that not a shame?
It's like the last great R-ratedstudio comedy that came out,
because otherwise, there hasn'tbeen any that's made money or
has been popular.
Yeah, me and this movie's kindof like made for like me and my

(00:59):
wife.
We love board games and stuff.
We love Jason Bateman.
Um he's getting older, isn't he?

unknown (01:05):
Yeah.

SPEAKER_02 (01:06):
So is Matt Damon.
He doesn't really like yeah,Matt Damon's starting to look
at, but I feel like JasonBateman, he's he's kind of
holding it back well.

SPEAKER_00 (01:13):
He just I think he seems younger to me because of
his his charisma, maybe.
I don't know.
Yeah.
Maybe just the way he is.

SPEAKER_02 (01:20):
I don't know.
It's just his sarcasm keeps himyoung.

SPEAKER_00 (01:23):
Yeah.
Jason Bateman's.
Looking forward to anyThanksgiving game nights?

SPEAKER_02 (01:28):
No, we don't really do anything game night wise on
Thanksgiving.
I mean my family used to, likemy on my mom's side, they used
to play games, but now I guessall the kids got older, so no
one of them really liked to playcard games or anything.
That's where I learned aboutlike phase 10 and Skippo and
games like that.
They always had those.
What's a what's a staple gamenight game for you and your

(01:48):
family?

SPEAKER_00 (01:49):
Growing up on my dad's side, we would always play
poker for real money.
Not oh, that's good.
I got introduced to gamblingsuper early.
I loved it.
Yeah.
It's okay.
I think this year we're gonnaplay um we always play
scategories.
Like a pass like I think it'sscategories where you pa we pass
around the handheld like things, got buttons and a timer on it,

(02:12):
and gives you the it gives youlike a prompt and then you have
to like figure it out, somethinglike that.
Yeah.
You you have to with but you'rejust talking, I guess.
So you're trying to explain whatyou're the word you're seeing
without saying the word.

SPEAKER_01 (02:26):
Yeah.

SPEAKER_00 (02:27):
It's pretty fun.

SPEAKER_02 (02:29):
Yeah, I think we played that over um actually on
vacation.
I think we like the house thatwe had just had like random that
had like a closet full of boardgames.
Yeah.
None of them were interesting,really.
But then there was likescatteries and we played it, and
I was like, oh shit, this isfun.

SPEAKER_00 (02:44):
We also bought like a cards against humanity thing,
but it's for like families.
Yeah.
So it's kind of it's dialed backa little bit, but it's not it's
not the same, but it's similar, very similar.

SPEAKER_02 (02:54):
That's a game where I've kind of I played it so much
that I'm like I don't really, Idon't really find it funny
anymore.
It was really funny like thefirst, you know, like few years
I played it.
And then just kind of got to it.
I'm like random, ha ha ha.
And plus I'm like, I don't knowhow to make this funny.
It's just too tame for you now.
It's too tame.

(03:15):
I need something crazier.
Or it's like, I mean, I guessit's fun whenever like I'm
around people I know that I'mlike, oh, I know their sense of
humor.
I can do this and this willwork.
Then half the time I'm alwaysjust like, I don't have anything
good, so I just like keepthrowing my cards away.
And then I'm like, I just don'tthink I know how to play this
game very well.
Right.
Um, so I want to talk aboutGary.

(03:37):
Right?
Yes, isn't all kind of like thebest performance of the whole
movie?
He's so funny.
Yeah, he's so weird.
And that's Jesse Plemens who Ilike the first time I noticed
him was in Breaking Bad.
Did you ever where he was likethe guy that looks like Matt
Damon, like in the laterseasons?
Everybody's like, it's redheadedMatt Damon.
And then it turns out this guyjust becomes a great fucking

(03:59):
actor, and he's like nominatedevery year for an Oscar and
everything.
But his oh man, I just lovehow's that profitable for Frito
Lay.
His dog Bastion.

SPEAKER_00 (04:12):
It's so great.
And we have So that's not MattDamon.
I really thought it was MattDamon.

SPEAKER_02 (04:16):
You thought that was Matt Damon?
Is that why you're talking aboutMatt Damon?
No, that's Jesse Plumens.
He looks like Matt Damon.

SPEAKER_00 (04:21):
I just thought maybe they just did his makeup weird
and make him look kind of crazy.
Oh, is this a little bit bigger,Matt Damon?
Okay, that makes a lot moresense now.
I feel really dumb.

SPEAKER_02 (04:29):
Yeah, and he even almost kind of sometimes sounds
like Matt Damon, which is theweird part as well.
I should really look at thecredits sometimes.
But yeah, he's oh man, the firsttime I watched it, I was like,
this guy goes.
He's so hilarious.
When he constantly walks aroundwith his dog and he's in his cop
outfit, even like in thepictures towards the end of the

(04:50):
credits, he's like taking, he'slike got pictures with Debbie,
and he's like you could justtell you could see his blue
little officer shirt, and he'slike, Is that all he wears?

SPEAKER_00 (04:59):
It's always pressed and like ironed and yeah.
No, but when they come to hishouse and he he's like, Great,
come on in.
He doesn't even say come on in,he just walks back into the
darkness.

SPEAKER_01 (05:11):
Yeah, everybody's like, should we go in?

SPEAKER_02 (05:14):
It's like I'm scared, I don't want to.
Oh, it's so great.
Um, and we have to talk aboutmaybe probably my favorite bit
of the whole movie, and that'swith Lamorne Morris, who is uh
Winnie the Bish and New Girl, and it starts off with like
that's a strong glass table.
And then this it happens againwhen they throw in the Fabrije

(05:35):
egg, and it's like glass table'sacting weird tonight.

SPEAKER_00 (05:39):
Yeah, because it should have shattered three
times.

SPEAKER_02 (05:41):
It's like who fucking comes up with that?
Is that like on the day likethey come up with that, or is
that just you know, someone isjust like, what if we had a
glass table that never broke?
And yeah, and they're like, let's just have something clever
about it.

SPEAKER_00 (05:56):
That is really clever.

SPEAKER_02 (05:57):
It's wild, it's great.
So, who is your favoritecharacter in the movie?
Yeah, I think and why was itBastion?

SPEAKER_00 (06:04):
Maybe Gary.
Oh, Bastion was pretty good.
Gosh.
He's so dumb.

SPEAKER_02 (06:10):
He's such a little cute doggo.
Just gets blood all over him,and he's like, let me wipe him
off with something white.
Uh oh.
Oh, and then you got the thescene where they're like trying
to cut out.
It it always works when peoplelike dry heave.
So they're trying to cut out thebullets.

SPEAKER_00 (06:30):
Oh dog, you're gonna make me it's always, always
funny.
You know, and Welcome to Dairy, they've they use a lot of puke,
like throwing up.
Oh, really?
God, I gotta get on to thatshow.

SPEAKER_02 (06:42):
I've only seen the first episode.
I need to keep going.

SPEAKER_00 (06:46):
I think that's what made it R-rated.
What the all thing is.
The drive.

SPEAKER_02 (06:52):
I just think that for for this movie, scene to
scene, um, one-liners, they'reit's fantastic.
I mean, the just the amount ofjokes is in every scene is wild,
and how likable all thecharacters are is great.
Rachel McAdams, who's just likebeen in my life forever.
She's amazing.
Just in all the because I itfeels like she's been in the

(07:16):
ever since the 2000s, she's beenin movies that are kind of
directed towards my age group.
I feel like so.
As she's like gotten older, hermovies have also like been
pinpointed to me throughout likegrowing up.
Interesting.
Starting with like Mean Girls, high school stuff, and then like
all the rom coms that I had towatch with like past
girlfriends.
Yeah.
And then she's even in Dave, theTV show with little dick, little

(07:38):
Dickie.
Nice.
And she like makes anappearance, she's hilarious in
that.
And then like game night, it'slike, holy shit, she's
hilarious.
Um, I love how competitive sheis.
Yeah, so funny.
Do you know anybody that's thatcompetitive?
No.
Yeah.
I usually um I'm not like toocompetitive with board games.
I really want to win, and thenif I'm really having fun, I'll

(08:00):
start like fuck every time Ilike mess up or something bad
happens to me, and I'll startyelling.
It's like my favorite thing iswhen we play like the Jackbox
games on our Nintendo Switch.
There's like the murder triviaone.
I really want to try those.
And like every time, like it'llget to like where we'll play
like four or five times, and I'malways like, I'm playing this
till I win, and then we can quitplaying this.

(08:23):
Like it's so aggressive whileplaying those games.
Like, God.

SPEAKER_00 (08:29):
Did this movie ever make you feel like you're
watching a board game?
Like, cause whenever they wouldit looks like the uh drone
shots, but it looks likeminiatures.

SPEAKER_02 (08:39):
Thank you, Jason, for bringing that up.
Especially since it's my firstfactoid that I have.
So the camera, the lens thatthey use is a tilt shift lens,
is used to give several wideaerial shots the miniaturized
look of the game of life boardgame.

SPEAKER_00 (08:53):
Yeah, that was pretty cool.
And then when they're runningthrough the house, yes, it looks
kind of like Clue.
Yeah.
Like the wealthy house.

SPEAKER_02 (09:00):
Yeah.
And so like throughout the game,uh throughout the movie, they do
kind of uh, you know, umgame-like things.
Uh like they do charades.
Yeah.
And then you have um Jenga.
When they're th when they'rethrowing like the egg that's a
hot potato.
Oh.
And there's another one.
I just can't think of it off thetop of my head.

(09:21):
But it was kind of like they'reI mean, and the whole thing's
pretty much clue, they're tryingto figure out a mystery,
essentially.
Um so another thing, prior tofilming, the cast members had
their own game night so theycould get to know one another
and prepare for the film.
They played Clue and JokingHazard, which I've never heard
of.
Never heard of that one.
What do you think about thegame, Clue?

SPEAKER_00 (09:43):
It used to be one of my favorites.
I used to fucking love Clue.

SPEAKER_02 (09:47):
I I'm either I'll win really fast or I will be
completely off because I I payattention to what other people
are saying.
Yeah.
And like marking off, and I'lllike I try to piece together.
I'm like, all right, well, thisthing's already been said a
couple times.
So they would already know that.
And then it's like I just kindof start going by off what other
people are doing.
So I'll be either like pinpointaccurate or totally off.

SPEAKER_00 (10:11):
And then I never get to guess.
My brother always did.
My older brother, he wouldalways guess like almost right
away.
Really?
So pissed.

SPEAKER_02 (10:20):
You know what?
That's somebody that's cheatingat the game of clue, Jason.

SPEAKER_00 (10:23):
Maybe he looked at the cards while you weren't
looking.
That and like the one what wasthe one?
Who?
Guess who?
Guess who, yeah.
Yeah, he would always want it.

SPEAKER_02 (10:33):
That one's all that one was fun as a kid.
I think maybe he was lookinginto like reflection of my
glasses.
They kind of have a it's almostkind of a new version of it.
Um it's called code names.
If you haven't played that, that's really fun.
Do you just get like 50 cardsand uh you have this little
thing and you're you have yourown words and you can only say
like one word um that will helpthem guess that your available

(10:58):
uh cards that you have.
But there's like a bunch ofcards and they all could be kind
of related, so you have to pickyour words carefully.
And then you can be like timestwo if there's like two of them
that go with that hint.
It's a really fun game.
That sounds cool.
Like if you ever come over for agame night, we'll have to play
that.
It's one of my favorites.

SPEAKER_00 (11:15):
I want to bring Camel Up.

SPEAKER_02 (11:16):
Yeah.
Never heard of that one.

SPEAKER_00 (11:18):
It's awesome.
It's great for big like bigparties of people.
Really?
Like Camel Up.
I think we had 12 people.
You gotta drink a lot of water.

SPEAKER_02 (11:27):
Yeah, between rounds, you have to drink like
an entire gallon of water.

SPEAKER_00 (11:34):
Yeah.
It's great.

SPEAKER_02 (11:36):
Um, one of my favorite lines of this movie is
when Max and Annie make a jokeabout child actors not amounting
to much.
Uh, and Bateman was a famouschild actor.
Oh shit.
He's been in the business likefor since he was a kid.
Because he was on roles inSilverspoon and Valerie, among
others.
Never heard of him.
Yeah, me neither.
But he was he was in a show.
I just can't remember what it'scalled.
And he's also in Teen Wolf 2.

(11:57):
Nice.
Yeah.
So Brooks is known for beingunbeatable at games during the
game night, right?
Um, and uh during the name gamescene, you can spot him actually
cheating.
When the group makes any guess,he immediately says it's
correct, crumbles the paper, andtosses it behind him.
No one ever knows if he wasright.
Man.
He's the same.
Yep, got me.

(12:18):
Got him.
Damn.
It's great.
Um, the house that Max, uhBateman's uh or the house that
Max's brother Brooks rents andthe mystery begins is the same
house where Michael Keaton'svulture lives in Spider-Man
Homecoming.
Game night was directed by thewriters of Homecoming, John
Francis Daly and JonathanGoldstein.
So yeah, they also wrote it andthey're like, hey, we got this

(12:41):
great house for you to use.

SPEAKER_00 (12:42):
Hell yeah.
Yeah.
We've only got it for another 30days.
We s we can film a Spider-Manmovie.
Yeah.

SPEAKER_02 (12:48):
Uh when the Bulgarian, Michael C.
Hall, Dexter Fame baby.
Oh, the first time I watched itand he popped up, I was like, oh
my God.
Actually, not the first time Iwatched it.
Notice that he acts prettysimilar to Dexter, though.
I just I think that's justbecause of that's his face.
Well, so when he is revealed, there's a possible nod to Hall's

(13:10):
previous and well-knowncharacter, psychopath Dexter
Morgan from Dexter.
In this scene, he takes Brookscaptive and an asks asked by his
accomplice if the other shouldlive.
He responds by saying they'vedone nothing wrong and points to
Brooks' head and says playfully, only this one, in the same
manner Dexter would often dothis to his victims before he
murdered him.
Nice.

SPEAKER_00 (13:29):
It was a good show.
I just don't remember much ofit.

SPEAKER_02 (13:30):
Yeah.
Um it is the show's guy, youknow.
It's like whether it's goodseasons, or's it's bad seasons.
It really just fucking just justthey did not know how to end the
show.
They're like and they stilldon't know how to end the show.
They just keep doing more dexterstuff, and it's like, okay, they
can kill forever.
He can kill forever.
It's like he kind of just has todie.

SPEAKER_00 (13:51):
Now he has to train his son how to kill.

SPEAKER_02 (13:53):
Yeah.
It's like that would be wild.
Which, you know, I think theydid a sequel.
I I've only watched like themain series when it was out, and
I know they've done more, and Ithink there is a season where he
has a kid and it's just likethat's just uninteresting to me.

SPEAKER_00 (14:08):
It's the it's Dexter from Dexter's Laboratory.

SPEAKER_02 (14:11):
Yeah.
I was gonna try to do like animpression.
I can't even remember a singlething.
I watched that show so manytimes, and I've never seen it.
I can't remember a single thingfrom it.
Alright, Jason, I think weshould uh get started.
What you think?
All right, let's do it.
But before we do, I want you tothink at home, what's the point
of this movie?
I mean, it's a comedy, so it'snot like too deep, but um, think

(14:35):
about what this movie's tryingto say.
And also, uh, you can tell usthat by going in the link in the
description, clicking that, andtelling us what you think.
But also tell us what yourfavorite board games are.
Yeah.
I would love to I will I lovegame nights, so tell me what
your favorite thing is to playand something that maybe other
people haven't ever heard of.
Um I'm right now kind ofobsessed with a game board game

(14:57):
called Horrified.
It's all it's got all theclassic universal monsters, and
you gotta play against them.
That's really fun.
It's a cooperative game, it'sreally great.
Um, and if you can't click thelink at the top of the
description, go to the bottom, you can see our email.
It's we recommend mailbag atgmail.com.
All right, Jason, let's get intogame night 2018.
So, competitor gamer Max andAnnie meet during trivia night

(15:20):
at a bar.

SPEAKER_00 (15:21):
Yeah, the guy she's dating.

SPEAKER_02 (15:23):
Yeah.
Tinky.
It's also a tinky winky meatcute.
Never get a lot of Telotoby meatcutes, right?
Uh they quickly fall in love andget married.
Uh, you got um great transitionsbetween uh like the scenes.
Um there are they high-five saysrevolution at the time.

(15:43):
They high-five Hitler.
Um they're they're playing uh isit charades, I guess, and
they're kind of they keeppointing at like this feel guy,
and they're like, oh wait,single.
Harry.
This is like, all right, guys, come on.
Um and then it can't keep a job.
And then it ends with uh himasking her to marry her.

SPEAKER_00 (16:06):
That was really cute.

SPEAKER_02 (16:07):
And then they have a DDR wedding.

SPEAKER_00 (16:09):
Yeah.
Which is great.
I've tried playing DDR.
I can't.
I have no rhythm.
I'm so bad at it.
No rhythm.
Well, that game is I don't eventhink that game is a rhythm game
because it's just wild.
Well, you have to like be ableto do the beats that boop, boop,
boop.
I don't know what kind of rhythmyou have to have to play that
game.
I don't have it.

SPEAKER_02 (16:26):
Uh the one that white boys like me and you don't
have.

SPEAKER_00 (16:28):
No.
They need a game where you justbite your bottom lip and stand
on two squares.

SPEAKER_02 (16:34):
Yeah.
Why are you biting your lip?

SPEAKER_00 (16:37):
Yeah, you bite your bottom lip.
That's how you do good movieswhen you really get into it.

SPEAKER_02 (16:40):
And then you just you just have something like
next to your head and you justbob your head, and that's what
touches the arrows.
Um, so they're trying to have achild, but their attempts are
unsuccessful due to Max's stresssurrounding his feelings and
inadequacy when compared to hisvastly more successful
attractive brother Brooks, whois coming to town.

(17:01):
Um the semen doctor, whateveryou call him.
And um, yeah, I'm not lovingyour semen.
And then like they just keepkind of going on and on about
like all the Jason Bateman'sinsecurities, and they're like,
Are you a therapist or a doctor?
Treat the whole person.
Treat the whole pay and theneventually start asking about

(17:22):
Brooks, and she's like, So is helike single?
And it's like, I'm reallylooking to move on here.
This is a horrible doctor, yeah.
And then we do like the cut tothe house, and this is where we
get the great like miniaturetransitions of the house.
This movie looks fuckingfantastic.
Yeah, it's a great action movieat the same time, and it's just
like the cinematography isfucking wonderful, dude.

(17:44):
It's amazing.
Um, so they arrive home beforetheir game night, but Gary comes
outside just standing out therewith the dogs, like just still
as can be.
And he's got like this monotone, creepy way of talking.
Um so they don't they don't wantto hang out with him.
It's all hilarious.
He asks about plans and they lieand say they aren't doing

(18:05):
anything.
It's very awkward.
And um, as they're about to goinside and they lift up like
three Tosino bags, he says, it'slike, oh, having a game night.
He's like, uh no.
It's like three bags of chips.
Like, oh, buy one, get two off.
Um it's like three for one?
How can that be profitable forFrito Lake?

(18:26):
And I love at the end with allthe credits because it they go
and like he's like, you know, hehas all the little knot notes
like in his little basementoffice or whatever during the
credit scene, and it's got threefor one.

SPEAKER_00 (18:37):
His marriage something's oh.
Oh, wait, no, no, no.
Yeah, with the strings tied toeverything.
Yeah, yeah.
Okay.
Yeah.
Um I was thinking about his roomthat got blood splattered.

SPEAKER_02 (18:48):
Yeah.
So Gary, he's humorless, awkwardformer police officer, or
awkward police officer whostopped being regularly invited
when his wife, a former friendof the couple, divorced him.
They're like, Yeah, we didn'treally like Gary.
We liked his wife.
Oh man.

SPEAKER_00 (19:03):
That sucks for Gary.

SPEAKER_02 (19:04):
Um, Max and Annie's friends start show up and start
sneaking into the house.
Ryan and his uh like hisInstagram girlfriend, like he
just like completely destroyslike a plant they have in their
windowsill.
Ryan's hilarious.
This guy crazy.

SPEAKER_00 (19:20):
And then they come in the back window too.
Yeah.
Just use the door.

SPEAKER_02 (19:26):
Well, they can't because they have to.
Well, I guess they could use theback door, right?

SPEAKER_00 (19:29):
He said to just use the sneak in the door.

SPEAKER_02 (19:31):
Like so during Max and Annie's routine weekend,
game night with their friendsRyan, uh, Kevin, and his wife
Michelle.
Ryan always brings models andthey're not very bright girls.
Um, Ryan brings up how richpeople have fight clubs.

SPEAKER_00 (19:47):
Sure, that won't come in later.
Because yeah, he believeseverything he reads on BuzzFeed.

SPEAKER_02 (19:52):
Uh the friends talk up Brooks and kind of diss Max
while doing so.
Classic.
And yes, he he he he can't havea baby because he thinks about
his brother too much.
Classic, you know.
Brooks shows up and immediatelyshows up Max uh by arriving in a
Corvette stingray and sharing anembarrassing childhood story
during straight.

(20:13):
Max tried to use bungee cords sohe could try to blow himself and
he gets stuck, and his mom findshim.

unknown (20:19):
Oh god.

SPEAKER_02 (20:22):
So embarrassing.
Um, just some of the lines inhere.
They Brooks calls Max Maxipad.
It's like, ugh, fuck you, dude.
Um, like when he goes to hughim, he's like, Hmm, oh, your
hair smells good.
Is that uh head and shoulders?
And he's like, Why do you gottathink of that as the danger
shampoo?
And then uh Ryan, like after thewhole uh bungee quartz story,

(20:45):
he's like, So did you suck it?
He's really interested.
He's probably never tried it.
Yeah, and uh so Brooks is goodat charades uh quotation and
shows up Max when uh Max chokes.
Motherfucking Ed Norton.
And it's funny, they were justtalking about Fight Club.
All you had to say is FightClub.

SPEAKER_00 (21:05):
Yeah, he could have said a lot of things, but it's
just like he only focuses on hishis wife, but not his other
teammates, yeah.

SPEAKER_02 (21:12):
And he um he show he chose the Hulk, the least
memorable Hulk out of all ofthem, because nobody remembers
Ed Norton as Hulk.

SPEAKER_00 (21:21):
It was my favorite Hulk.

SPEAKER_02 (21:22):
I know he's a good Hulk, too.
It's good.
He's probably like the bestactor out of all the people that
have played Hulk.
Yeah, Mark Ruffalo is reallygood, but Edward Norton's just
been crusher.
So Annie also finds Brooksextremely obnoxious and decides
to work together with Max todefeat him at the upcoming game
night, which Brooks offers thehost at his house.
He's renting while visiting.

(21:43):
This will be a game night toremember.
And then they're kind of likewhen talking about how much they
hate him, it's like she's kindof getting really fired up and
they're like, yeah, we're gonnalike beat the shit out of him.
It's like, what made you changeyour mind about Brooks?
Like, now he's messing with yourballs.
Um and on the way to game night,Gary surprises them outside.

(22:05):
He brings up Debbie.
I like to think she left therecipe for good.
Uh, Will, but it was most likelyan oversight.
And then the dog starts lickinghim in the face.
It's like, what?
So weird.
Um, and then like they're kindof driving to the to the game
night house.
Uh, and he says, A guy who rentsa house this big must be making
up for something pretty small.

(22:25):
I say, Max, no, no, I've seenhis dick.
It's pretty great.
Annie, well, I tried.
It's like, just give her a win,man.
Yeah.
Uh so Max, uh, uh RachelMcAdams, Jason Bateman have just
spectacular.
Great story.
Yeah.
So when the guests arrive, including Ryan's new date,
Sarah, Brooks says he initiatedan interactive role-playing Mr.

(22:48):
Graham, promising the winner hisstingray.
Um, it's like, yeah, here's mygirl, say uh your girl Sarah.
It's like, uh, you know she'ssmart because she's British.
He's like, I'm not British, I'mIrish.
It's like, well, same thing.
It's like, no different island.

SPEAKER_00 (23:02):
Yeah, so he's like, same island.
It's like, no, not really.

SPEAKER_02 (23:05):
He's like so dope.
Yeah, compared to her, he's anidiot.
And the whole time he's like,you see, I'm not, I don't have
just one type.
He just brought her just thejust the it's like I can be with
smart people.

SPEAKER_00 (23:19):
Yeah, to try to win the game.
Yeah.
Does this remind you of the themovie The Game a little bit?

SPEAKER_02 (23:25):
Yeah, it actually does.
Michael Douglas.
That'd have been a great doublefeature.
That will.
Yeah, that's a fun movie.
It's a little silly.
Especially when it gets to theend and it's like, I would
fucking when he tries to killhimself.
I would start hitting people.
I would just go through andpunch every single person that
was involved in this scenario.
So we see people outside thehouse talking about kidnapping.

(23:48):
Um, then uh um Jason Max'scharacter, Max was in the
bathroom, he comes out, and thenlike Brooks comes up and he has
a knife at him like that.
Like, and it gets like straightat his chest.
He's like, Who holds a knifelike that?
It's an aggressive way to hold aknife.
So uh during Never Have I Ever,um, because they're waiting for

(24:08):
the guy to come up.
Um, so there's like, we're gonnaplay a game or a drinking game.
They're playing Never Have IEver, and Michelle reveals that
she slept with a celebrity, andthey have been together since
junior high.
Uh but they did have a break fora little bit.
So funny.
You just can't let it go.
Yeah, so then this is where likeKevin's like, I'm never letting
this go.

(24:28):
So after a while, an actorplaying an FBI agent informs
them of the narrative of themystery, only for two masked men
to break in and assault him.
It's played by Jeffrey Wright,by the way.
They said assault him andBrooks, the guest believing it's
part of the game.
I'd be watch.

SPEAKER_00 (24:45):
He's getting his ass beat.

SPEAKER_02 (24:47):
They're all like, Wow, this is really realistic.
This is great.

SPEAKER_00 (24:49):
And this is where we get like at any point he could
have said, Hey, this this isn'tsupposed to happen.
Yeah, well, I think physicalviolence.

SPEAKER_02 (24:57):
Because he's supposed to get kidnapped, and
they're just he's just like, wait, why are they fighting me
so much?

SPEAKER_00 (25:01):
He's like, I know you're meta, but yeah, kicking
my door like that.

SPEAKER_02 (25:05):
Oh yeah.
And he gets beat up.
They just watch uh this is wherewe get the table not breaking.
He's like, that's a strong glasstable.

SPEAKER_00 (25:11):
Really is.

SPEAKER_02 (25:11):
Um, and then uh when the FBI agent came in, um uh
Ryan says, like, sunglasses atnight.
This is legit.
Um, and then I love like they'rewhile the fight's going and it's
getting more intense, like Imean, they're just beating the
shit out of each othereverywhere.
Um, Max is like, ooh, guys, didyou have any of this cheese?
You have to have some of thecheese.

(25:33):
It's so good.
But then after Brooks is draggedout of the house, the couples
begin to solve the mystery usingthe clues left behind by the
actors.
Oh, and like the guy's laying onthe ground.
Ryan just starts kicking him.
She's like, Man, he's a reallygood actor.
So method.
So uh so while Kevin andMichelle play the game fairly,

(25:54):
Max and Annie track down Brookeby using his phone's GPS
location while Ryan and Sarahtrack down the company in charge
of managing the game, hoping tofind the answer there.
And bribe the answer out ofhere.
Max thinks this is uh Max thinksthis is a way for him, Brooks to
humiliate him, though.

(26:15):
So, uh oh yeah, and they'relike, they're driving to the
bar, and he's like, Yeah, we'regonna beat him, yeah, and we're
gonna take him down, and thenwe're gonna make a baby.
And he's like, Yeah, and thenwe're gonna make them watch.
He's like, whoa, whoa, that'shonestly that's too far.
That's too far.
I'm not into that.
Um, and then uh Ryan locks Kevinand Michelle in a room, they

(26:36):
just like push the thing infront of them.
And then Kevin's like, You gottayou got a match room to burn the
door down.
He's like, All right, that's alittle too far.
It's funny.
He's like, um Lamar and Morris,he's so good at just being
overreacting to smallsituations.
It's great.

(26:57):
So Max and Annie track downBrooks down to a CD bar and see
one of the kidnappers there.
They discuss having kids.
Uh, they see Brooke tied up inthe back office of the bar, uh,
using a pistol left behind byBrooks during the struggle,
which they believe to be fake.
They manage to take the keys tothe storage closet where Brooks
is being held.

SPEAKER_00 (27:15):
And then so funny when they're passing the gun to
each other, dropping it, holdingit the wrong way.

SPEAKER_02 (27:22):
And then we get to like the uh Rachel McAdams, her
character does like the pulpfiction bit.
Um, and then like they're kindof she's talking to uh the the
bald guy, the one of the baldguys that are the uh kidnappers,
and he's like, It's like allright, you bald bitch.
Or like he's being really mean, and it's like uh then she's

(27:45):
like, I'm sorry I called you abald bitch.

SPEAKER_00 (27:47):
Yeah, because does it Jason Vavan say something?

SPEAKER_02 (27:50):
Like, yeah, don't be so mean.
Yeah, it's like I'm sorry Icalled you a bald bitch.
And then they're like, shethey're trying to tell them how
to get down.
They're like, they're like, allright, put your hands in the
air, and then put your head onthe ground and your hand behind
your head.
It's like, wait, which what doyou want us to do?
And they're like, Have you everseen the yoga pose chalapose?
Then she gets down and it'slike, all right, you should be
filling in your lower back here.

(28:11):
So great.
So Kevin tries guessing thecelebrity Michelle slept with.
He guesses Tommy Lee Jones.
She's like, ugh.
Oh, yeah, gross.
And then does, and then Denzel.
Um, and she's like, no, notDenzel.
And then he starts doing hisDenzel impression, which Lamar
Morris is really good at it, andit's great.
Uh and like this whole time he'strying to escape, like through a

(28:31):
sunroof in the house, and thenit gets up, then it falls before
getting busts the door throughthe door.
Yeah.
She's like, that doesn't looksturdy.
My favorite thing is, uh, it isthis.
This is what this movie's sogood at.
I'm sure this is probably likean improv line.
Like when he's falling, he fallsand hits the ground.
He's like, baby, I fell down.
Yeah.
It's like just small fuckingstupid lines.

(28:53):
Stupid lines like that justfucking kill me in this movie.
Baby, I fell down.
It's like, nah duh, nah duh, dude.
Oh shit.
Um, so Ryan and Sarah show upbefore the game was created
where he reveals this wasn't anactual date.
Um, when they go in, they thinkChelsea Paretti is dead, but she
was in makeup and sleeping.

(29:13):
I love Chelsea Paretti.
And then like they get up at, orshe's like, she's like, yeah, I
was a part of uh one of themurder mysteries.
Like, why did they need a deaddead pregnant woman?
It's like, oh no, I'm justactually pregnant.
It's like, aww.
It's so good.
Um, so they asked for a clue, she won't give it, so they start
giving her money.

(29:33):
All right, let's change ourmind.
Slowly, slowly slides it.
It's a$10 bill.
She's like, no.
It's like, all right, how aboutthis?
Slowly slides a$5 bill.
Oh boy.
And then a set a$1 bill, andthen finally another$1 bill.
And Sarah's like, it doesn'tmatter how slowly you slide the
thing over.
It's not gonna change anything.

(29:54):
Then Chelsea Buretti's like,I'll take$100.
And then he doesn't have anymore money, cash.
She's like, she has to give itto me.

SPEAKER_00 (30:02):
How much do you have?
$17.
She takes it.

SPEAKER_02 (30:09):
Yeah.
It's so good.
So back at the house, Kevin andMichelle learn that Brooks was
kidnapped by the wrong people.
Sarah and Ryan also learn thisbecause uh Jeffrey Ride's
character gets up and like theother kidnappers come in.
They're like, huh, what thehell?
Um, Annie dances to some musicwith the gun, thinking it's all

(30:30):
fake.
She's just like you pointing attheir faces while dancing.
Uh they get the keys and go torescue Brooks after Annie
mistakenly fires the gun andshoots Max in the arm,
confirming the legitimacy of thedanger.
The three escape where Brooksadmits that he actually makes
his living buying and sellingthings on the black market, in
particular a Faberge egg soughtby a man who known only as the

(30:52):
Bulgarian and is owned by a andis owned by a man using the
alias Marlon Freeman.
You shot me!

SPEAKER_00 (31:02):
He just like keeps saying that.
And then there's blood comingout.
He's like, oh blood.
Oh blood.

SPEAKER_02 (31:09):
So with his captors in pursuit, Brooks exit the
moving car to guarantee Max andAnnie's escape.
Um so yeah, they have like thisgreat like uh chase scene.
And like when that happened, Iwas like, damn, this movie like
has pretty good action in it.
Like this is pretty good chase.
I mean, just for like a randomlike studio R-rated comedy, I

(31:29):
was like, oh, this this movielike legit has some good action.
By the second one, I was like, okay, this is great.

SPEAKER_00 (31:35):
Yeah, it really does, especially uh the airplane
scene.

SPEAKER_02 (31:39):
Yeah.
Uh and they start talking umabout his arm and how he needs
like a doctor.
He's like, we should go to a mobdoctor.
Yeah, do you know one of thedoctors?
Do you know one of those?
It's like, all right, maybe weshould go to like a veterinarian
that like helps the mob.
It's like, why do you keep goingto the mob?
Do you know any of these?
So Max and Annie that go to likea convenience store to bandage
Max's arm.

(32:00):
She gets stuff to bandage thewound, like champagne and a
squeaky toy.
Probably not, dude.
He's gonna lose that arm by theend of this movie.
But I love that he gets a littlesqueaky toy.
Yeah, put you on.
And then he gets a magazine,it's like, oh, I found a great
chowder recipe.
And I know you love chowder, andhe's like, Oh, yeah, that does
sound nice.

SPEAKER_00 (32:20):
Um with him squeaky, like biting the squeaky toy.
That was great.

SPEAKER_02 (32:26):
Then she likes they're gonna cut into the arm.
He's like, make a small cut.
He immediately cuts a giant holein his arm.
It's like, what are you doing?
That's too big.
Uh and then like Max startsgagging, and then so does Annie.
And then like she's like, Oh, Ithink I feel it and starts
tapping.
It's like, ooh, what is that?
It's like, oh, that's not thebullet, that's your bone.

SPEAKER_00 (32:43):
Oh, that would hurt.
Or like you feel it jar up yourarm.
Oh man.

SPEAKER_02 (32:48):
Yikes.
Um, and then Annie realizes likethere's another hole.
And she's like, Have you beenshot twice?
It's like, nope, went throughhis arm.
So good.
Such a funny scene.
So eventually the others learnthat what have they become
involved in, avoiding police onone of Brooks' warnings.
They meet up at Max's, trying todetermine the identities of the

(33:10):
Bulgarian and Marlon Freeman, they go to Gary's house under
the false pretense of a gamenight in order to use his
computer.
Um, and it's like Ryan's idea.
He's like, oh, he had a goodidea.
Um, Gary, who is very happy theycame over and slowly disappears
into his house.
Creepily.
Oh, yeah, always holding hisdog.
It's great.
They start with Jenga.
Gary has a framed photo of allof them from the game night.

(33:33):
Yeah, doesn't everyone have?
Well, they're closest friends,and he's like, they're like,
yikes.
Uh Mask asks, Max asks to usethe bathroom next to um uh asks
to use the bathroom, and thenGary's like, oh yeah, it's next
to mine and Deb um my room.
And it's like, God, I don'tknow.

(33:54):
Is this worth it?
Maybe we just get out of here.

SPEAKER_00 (33:58):
Psycho.

SPEAKER_02 (33:59):
So and then Max goes into his office and sees a
shrine to uh Gary's formermarriage.

SPEAKER_00 (34:06):
I love how they're trying to talk to Gary outside
to keep him busy.

SPEAKER_02 (34:09):
Yeah.
Sarah asks, like, tell me aboutDebbie.
And he's like, What?
Sits down.
It's like it's like, let me tellyou about the greatest woman
that ever existed.

SPEAKER_00 (34:21):
Then the other guy's like, oh, right, she died.

SPEAKER_02 (34:27):
So uh Max finds out that Marlon Freeman is named
Donald Anderton, played by DannyHouston, and learns of his
address, though cannot findinformation on the Bulgaring.
As he is gonna leave the office,Max realizes that he's bleeding
everywhere, even on Gary's dog,Bastion.

SPEAKER_00 (34:42):
He's licking it up.
Yeah.
Oh god.
Um everything's white in there.

SPEAKER_02 (34:47):
Yeah, and this is where uh Gary's he'll hears Max
yell.
So he um Sarah asks Gary to talkabout Debbie.
It's like, where do I begin?
Max tries to clean Bastion withwater, but it's making it way
worse.
Even uses shirt with Debbie'sface on it.
And the best part, it'ssomething you don't like see in
these movies enough where it'sjust it's like a total real

(35:09):
reaction when it's like there'sjust blood everywhere.
The dog shakes and gets bloodeven further.
And then it's Jason Bateman inlike just what he does best,
like, okay, fuck this.
Just walks out and it's likeperfect, perfect reaction.
It's like, you know, just getout of the house as fast as
possible.
We'll just deal with thissituation later.
We have to fight my brotherfirst.

SPEAKER_00 (35:29):
So it's like when you go to your friend's house
and clog up the toilet.

SPEAKER_02 (35:32):
Yeah, oh man, I gotta get out of here.
It's just like, or if like yougo into is in high school, uh,
went to like kind of this likeparty, and everybody was
watching a movie and it wasgetting to like the scariest
part of the movie, and thegirlfriend had at the time and
like gets really scared, andit's all of a sudden I was like,
I'm gonna crap my brains out.
And she's just like, Don't go,don't go.

(35:53):
And it's like she was really madat me after I left.
And I was like, dude, I have touse the bathroom.
I was they had no air spray, airspray or anything.
And I was just like, oh god.
Then I go out and likeimmediately I couple the movie
immediately ends, like a fewpeople I gotta go to the
bathroom.
I was like, oh god, what do Ido?

(36:13):
I was like, hey, you think weshould go?
It's like, yeah, it's probablytime for us to go.
And I was like, oh thank God.
And we all like bied before theywent in the bathroom.
And I was like, hell yes.
Hell yes.
I have an upset stomach all of asudden and I'm out of here.
I was like, wow, that worked outperfectly.

SPEAKER_00 (36:30):
All through a guy's house after I we were drinking.
I jumped out of the pool, landedon a piece of rebar, it went
through my foot.
Ah.
And then I was so hammered.

SPEAKER_02 (36:38):
She's just like, I'm gonna walk through the house
with a hole in my foot.

SPEAKER_00 (36:41):
Yeah, basically.
I walked all through his houseup to the bedroom and went, got
in the bed with a bloody assfoot.
You didn't go to the doctor?
I did the next morning.

SPEAKER_02 (36:50):
You're like, oh shit, I still have a hole in my
foot.
Good thing he didn't like bleedout.
Jesus.

SPEAKER_00 (36:55):
Bleeds so much.

SPEAKER_02 (36:56):
Golly.
The adventures in Jason's life.
That was horrible.
Another crazy story just droppedin on his head a hole in his
foot for a while and fell asleepduring it.

SPEAKER_00 (37:05):
Bloody footprints all through the white carpet,
through the house, everything.
Did you leave for everybody wokeup?
Uh no.
We just didn't say anything.

SPEAKER_02 (37:14):
Yeah, it's like, bye guys.

SPEAKER_00 (37:16):
They're like, yeah, see ya.

SPEAKER_02 (37:17):
Somebody, somebody's leaving bloody footprints, by
the way.
We'll see y'all later.
Oh, and it was his parents'house.
Yikes.
Did you ever go over thereagain?
No.
Yep, didn't think so.
So the group leaves Gary's houseand get an anonymous phone call
saying if they don't get theegg, they will kill Brooks.
Max and Annie say that theyshould go alone, but their
friends love them and are gonnahelp.

(37:38):
It's like, it's the best part ofthe our week.
And they're like, and the Ryanguy's like, I have so many plans
over the weekends.
I choose to come and do this.

SPEAKER_00 (37:46):
And I was like, Oh, sweet.
No, that was really cool.
Makes me want to have one.

SPEAKER_02 (37:50):
Yeah.
Makes us want to have friendsthat like us.

unknown (37:53):
Okay.

SPEAKER_02 (37:54):
So they arrive at Anders Anderton's address where
he is hosting an undergroundfight club.
This is great because Ryan walksin and he's like, I knew it.
And then uh Kevin, he's like, Ohman, this is some Django
Unchained shit.
It really is.
That is immediately what Ithought too, because we just
recently watched DjangoUnchained.

(38:15):
It's like, oh well.
So they decide to split up.
Kevin and Michelle go together, and Michelle finally tells him
that she met Denzel at a gasstation.
Yeah, and it's like it obviouslydoesn't look like Denzel.
Uh and apparently they went to aclub and hit it off and uh where
she offered to pay for all thedrinks and he allowed her, and

(38:36):
she thought that was cool.
He allowed her.

SPEAKER_01 (38:37):
Yeah.

SPEAKER_02 (38:38):
And then they went to his uh condo and uh had sex.
Oh man.
Uh Kevin doesn't believe him, hurt, and she doesn't, and she
shows him a pick, and it'sdefinitely not Denzel.
When you zoom in on the nose, itgives it away, right?
That's awesome.
And Kevin keeps doing the Denzelimpression.

SPEAKER_00 (38:57):
Would you be a little bummed out?
I think I would.
I would I would be less rrelieved if it was.
A part of me be like, damn, youkind of dumb.

SPEAKER_02 (39:06):
You don't know what I mean.

SPEAKER_00 (39:06):
Well, I guess I think I would be more relieved
if it really was DenzelWashington.

SPEAKER_02 (39:11):
Yeah, be like, damn, that's like a story you can tell
your kids, tell our kids oneday.
They'll be like, man, mom, you're so cool.
Why you would that?

SPEAKER_00 (39:17):
Yeah, you just leave out the whole part about it not
being so Max and Annie aresearching and they bring up kids
again.

SPEAKER_02 (39:25):
Max is worried that having a kin will kid will mess
up his life and his chance tobecome successful.
Turns out Max wants to beBrooks.
And Annie's like, Are youfucking serious, dude?
Now you're saying this.
Yeah, Brooks is cool to hell.
Which is probably the wholereason that they're actually not
having kids because he doesn'tactually want to have kids and
that's dressing him out, maybe.
I know.
As the others search a house,Ryan spots the egg in a safe on
the wall that's inside the fightclub room.

(39:47):
Um and then he goes and he'slike, Hey, I'm just gonna walk
over there and try to steal it.
And of course, someone getsknocked out right as he's
stealing it, falls right out ofhis head.
And they're all like, Who isthis guy?
And it's like, I have a lot ofmoney.
I I'm the CEO of thisorganization or whatever.

SPEAKER_00 (40:01):
It's like this is he acts like he's got a bunch of
these fabrics.

SPEAKER_02 (40:05):
Yeah, it's like, oh, this is actually kind of ugly
compared to my other ones.
And then he's just like, everybody's like, All right,
somebody get him.
He's like, Everyone, hold on agoddamn second, runs away.
Such a good bit.
So they all try to escape andplay hot potato with the egg
around.
Uh, it's a lot of back andforth.
You got great shots.
Oh, it's so fun.
It's all one, it's a wonder.

(40:26):
So, like the camera doesn't cut,and it's just like, holy shit,
this is just in comedy.
Why is it this good?
Um, so Sarah's about to gettackled, but Ryan saves her by
tackling a guy into a glasstable, but it doesn't break.
Man, glass tables are actingweird tonight.
My favorite line in the wholemovie that or the poop line.

SPEAKER_00 (40:47):
Like, whenever he he jumps and then like he jumps and
saves the egg.
And then have you seen thatvideo of the guy who catches the
baseball at the stadium?
He like he has his he has a beerin one hand, he's holding his
child, he drops the child for asplit second, catches it, and
then catches the kid withoutspilling his beer, and that's
what he was he was happy about.

(41:08):
It's like the greatest catchever played.

SPEAKER_02 (41:12):
Such a dad thing.
It's like it's okay.
I'm a dad, I'm drunk at a sportsgame.
I'm gonna be the greatestathlete with a kid in my hand
ever.
It's like wild.
Um, so the group escapes withthe egg.
Sarah and Ryan, Ryan are fallingfor each other.
It's like, it's like, oh, you'reactually falling for me, aren't
you?
And Sarah's like, no.

(41:32):
And then he's like, Are youfalling for me?
And he's like, Well, I don'tknow.
It's like, oh, you are?
That's embarrassing.
No, that's awful.
Um, they accidentally break theegg by breaking too hard,
though.
I survived all that.
Just breaks it.
So funny.
They discover the egg is aworthless fake, but end up
finding a list of names that wasstored inside of it, realizing

(41:54):
this is what the Bulgarianwanted.
Maybe that and there's like, oh,this is made in China.
Ryan, maybe the sticker was madein China.

SPEAKER_00 (42:04):
Yes.

SPEAKER_02 (42:06):
That's so ridiculous.
So ridiculous.
It's like, do you think someonewrote that or was that like
improv?
I don't know.
It's like if you write that, you're you're one of the you're
one of the best comedy writers.

SPEAKER_00 (42:19):
Yeah, they could have been you know.
He's kind of predictable in thatway.

SPEAKER_02 (42:24):
Yeah.

unknown (42:25):
Yeah.

SPEAKER_02 (42:26):
So the group finds Brooks and his captors on an
under construction bridge andmove in to rescue him.
Facing execution, Brooks revealsto Max his own insecurities
throughout the years as a reasonfor his life of crime and only
wanted to be as successful asMax.
Aww.
Big brother actually looked upto Little Brother, and little
brother thought that he shouldbe looking up to Big Brother.

(42:49):
Before the group gets killed, they are rescued by Gary,
though, who is shot in thechest.
Max and Annie, who haverepeatedly rebuffed his request
to join them in a game night, try to encourage him to pull
through by promising to invitehim to every future game.
Yeah.
And so Gary then reveals that hefaked the entire scenario with
the two captors.
Oh man.

(43:10):
Fellon 2.
Yeah, it's like Felons whoagreed to help in exchange for a
shortened parole, trying totrick them into letting him join
game night again.
Honestly, though, I'd be like, all right, Gary, this is pretty
fucking cool, dude.
This was wild.
We were really scared all nightand thought we were gonna die.
But only half of what everythinghappened tonight was set up.

(43:32):
So he is, however, unaware aboutthe egg or Brooks involvement in
it, and they are immediatelyattacked by the real bargarian.
They shoot Gary and they takeBrooks after he swallows the
list, revealed to people in thewitness protection program to
keep it out of his hands.
Um, and he it's uh MichaelSeahulk.
And he lets everybody go.

(43:53):
Um paper.
And what I love about this, Ithink they could have just
because they're like JasonBateman, Max is like, hey, we'll
give you this paper, and that'sit.
Everything will be fine, and youcan let us go.
And the the Bulgarians, like,okay.

SPEAKER_00 (44:07):
He would have killed them all, right?

SPEAKER_02 (44:09):
I don't think he would he definitely would, I
don't think he would maybe onlyhave killed Brooks.
Because he seems like he wasfine with letting the other
people go.

SPEAKER_00 (44:16):
I don't know.
But I I feel like a person likea bad guy like both the
Bulgarian, like anybody who seeshim.
But he does let them go though.
I know, but isn't that crazy?

SPEAKER_02 (44:25):
Yeah, he's just like, I don't fucking care about
these guys.

SPEAKER_00 (44:28):
What are they gonna do?

SPEAKER_02 (44:29):
I think maybe he would have let them all go.
I don't know.

SPEAKER_00 (44:31):
He's still gonna have a movie.

SPEAKER_02 (44:32):
Though I guess maybe not, because yeah, I mean it
makes no sense, but I think it'sjust supposed to be kind of like
a nod to Dexter and kind offunny.
Um, but yeah, and he's like, allright, just give me the list,
I'll let all y'all go.
And then like Brooks immediatelygoes and eats it, and he's like,
You fucking idiot.
Because and with that line, I'mlike, I think he was gonna let
them all go, actually.
He got what he wants.
That is the thing, like in badguy plots, and I guess just in

(44:55):
general, it's always just likethey end they just kill so many
people that like it.
And it's like, why is this guystop killing everybody?
Don't give a fuck.
This is like there's no reason,it just makes more blood trails,
right?

SPEAKER_00 (45:08):
Yeah, but no, there's no one just to pick you
out out of a lineup.

SPEAKER_02 (45:11):
Yeah.
But like, I mean, if nobody, they don't eat the police don't
even have a picture of him.
And like, what are they gonnado?
It's like, hey, you draw thisguy and be like, Have you seen
Dexter?
He looks like that guy.
So Max and Annie use Brooks'sCorvette.
Brooks having secretly put upthe keys in Max's coat pocket to
show where they're gonna be.
He had keys in his pocket.
I guess he was just too busy toput his hands in his pockets.

(45:31):
Yes.
Um, they drive it to the airportand stop the Bulgarian from
taking off with Brooks and hisjet.
Um, Brooks on the jet tries tosave himself.
You know, you don't have to dothis because I can just poop it
out.
It's like that's we're not gonnasift through your poop.

SPEAKER_00 (45:46):
We're gonna cut a hole in your stomach.
Yeah.

SPEAKER_02 (45:49):
Max and Eddie show up to save Brooks.
They're gonna try to crash intothe plane to stop it, like in
taking three.

SPEAKER_00 (45:54):
He misses.

SPEAKER_02 (45:55):
Yeah, the first time he misses, uh, but then gets it
the second time stopping theplane.
He's like, well, at least I gotto drive this for a few seconds.

SPEAKER_00 (46:04):
Ten minutes or something.

SPEAKER_02 (46:06):
And then a goon gets out to kill him.
Max is stuck inside the carwhile Annie runs and hides
behind like a conveyor.
Like she makes bird noises toget the goon's attention.
And then Max uses terraids toget Annie to drop a cargo box on
the goon's head.
Sorry.
And I love it that he's like, this is some uh uh cute full
circle bullshit here.

(46:27):
Alex goes so slow.
Yeah.
Just steps away.
It's like this belt's just goingso fucking slow.
Guys steps out of the way, butthen Annie with a fire
extinguisher boost knocks theshit out of him.
And then uh Max is like, allright, I'm gonna get on the
plane and I'm gonna get the dropon him and surprise him.
So he tries to sneak on theplane, but he's so loud.

(46:47):
And then he falls and like fallsto the ground.
He's like, not good at that atall.

SPEAKER_00 (46:51):
Yeah, because the uh Bulgarian just kind of like
looks up and he steps back.

SPEAKER_02 (46:56):
Yeah, waiting for him to fall.
And then like he throws theknife at Max and hits up, he's
like, oh, ride my bullet hole.

SPEAKER_01 (47:03):
Ride my hole.

SPEAKER_02 (47:06):
And then uh Annie gets cornered by a goon and the
guy gets uh sucked into theairplane engine.
That was awesome.
And I love it when he like getsthe jump on her.
He's like, wait, I have kids.
He's like, not with an ass likethat.
And she's like, Oh, thank you.
You're welcome.
But then yeah, he gets sucked inthe air, and she's like, Yeah.
Oh and then uh Annie does getsends up actually getting the

(47:28):
drop on him because she'scompletely better at everything
than Max.
Knocks him out and then uh Maxties him up with a bungee or
like a some rope in court.
And then Brooks is like, wow,you immediately immediately go
to the sex thing, huh?
You get some bungees in yourhands, you immediately try to
make someone blow themselves.
Max, now with some perspective, agrees to have kids.

(47:51):
They say their baby will bebetter than all other baby.
Brooks say that they havelearned every lesson he wanted
them to and pretends that it'sall fake.
It's like, all right, get up.
He's like, oh no, just kidding.
It's like, Brooks, I got shot inmy arm.
If this was all fake, that'sridiculous.
That's a badass game.
Um, so then a few months latergo by, Brooks under house arrest

(48:12):
for his crime, still manages tosell the list for three million
dollars, though also earninganother 20,000 from each person
on the list to let them knowthat they've been tipped off.
And Annally finally becomespregnant and reveals it by
they're playing charades and hasa bun and it's in the oven.

SPEAKER_00 (48:28):
He's like, I knew it.
So the sword drawing it.
Yeah, it's like this is obvious.

SPEAKER_02 (48:32):
Um, while the group, including an inept Gary, are
continuing their game night, menwith guns get ready to storm the
building.
Um, and then you got Gary.
He's drawing himself crying in achair.
They're all like trying to guesswhat it is, and he's like the
green mile.

SPEAKER_00 (48:49):
It's like that's why everybody cried at the green
mile.

SPEAKER_02 (48:52):
This is me crying while watching the green mile in
a regal cinematic.
It's like, did everybody not dothis?
And then we get a sequenceduring the closing credits,
reveal a diagram and models ofthe portion of the night that
Gary had planned.
In a post-credit sequence,Kenny, a man whom Miss Sheld
mistook for Denzel Washington, meets Debbie at a gas station.

(49:14):
And they have like, so at thebeginning, when Max and Annie
meet, they have like this likeclose-up smile where they're
smiling at each other.
Yeah.
And then they do it at the endwith the uh the guy that looks
like Denzel and Debbie, butDebbie smiles like she has like
a weird smile.
It's great.
That's gotta be honest.
And that's game night.
Jason, what's the point of gamenight?

SPEAKER_00 (49:36):
I don't know.
I don't know.

SPEAKER_02 (49:39):
I think it's don't focus on what other people have
and focus on what you have.
Max has a perfect damn life andhe's trying and he's too worried
about his asshole brother.

SPEAKER_00 (49:47):
Yeah, that sucks.

SPEAKER_02 (49:48):
That's pretty much it.
It's like, hey, don't worryabout your family, dog.
Just be yourself.
Can't leave up to them.

SPEAKER_00 (49:53):
Have your like have your own idea of what success is
for you, not what others do.

SPEAKER_02 (49:59):
And I guess like, you know, people have secrets.

unknown (50:01):
Okay?

SPEAKER_02 (50:02):
Everybody has a secret.
All right, so we'll move on toour next category.
The good, the bad, the ugly.
It's where we talk aboutsomething we liked, the good,
could be a scene, actor,whatever.
The bad, something we didn'tlike, the ugly, something that
didn't age well.
The fine, something that did agewell.
Um for the good, I put the damncast is perfect.
They're all 100% hilarious.

SPEAKER_00 (50:22):
Yeah, they're amazing.
Uh I put I think I'm gonna do uhjust the moment to moment, how
funny it is.
And surprising.
It's just very entertaining.
Yeah, it is.

SPEAKER_02 (50:33):
It's like I don't know.
I mean, it's such a basic likestudio comedy idea.
It's like, what if a game nightbecame like a real actual crime
event?
And it's like, oh yeah.
And it's like, we'll make itfunny.
And if like anybody else, Ithink, touched this movie, I
think it would have beenterrible.
And apparently Jason Bateman wasset to direct this movie.
Uh, but the people who ended updirecting it, they came in, they

(50:58):
were asked to do some rewriteswith it, and they're like, We'll
only do it if you let us directit, and then they let him direct
it.
Nice.
Yeah.
So the bad, I put truly nothing.
It's like for a comedy, R-ratedcom studio comedy, it's kind of
a perfect movie, in my opinion.

SPEAKER_00 (51:15):
Yeah, it was pretty hilarious.
Although I guess what bad isthen I I couldn't tell the
difference between Matt Davidand Yeah, I guess I mean that's
how I kind of was when I firstsaw Jesse Clemens in Breaking
Bad.

SPEAKER_02 (51:30):
I was like, what the fuck?
Does Matt Damon have a son?
Yeah, uh, you should watch uhjust pretty much anything that
Jesse Clemens is in.
He's in Civil War, uh, The Powerof Dog.
Um I don't know, he's in a shitton of stuff.
Uh, did you ever watch um Judasand the Black Messiah?
No.
He's he he's good in in that.

(51:52):
I don't know, he's good ineverything.
He kind of just became like aguy that looked like Matt Damon
and then a guy that was kind offunny in some movies, to like,
oh shit, he's a really goodactor.

SPEAKER_00 (52:01):
It's funny that he looks like Matt Damon.

SPEAKER_02 (52:03):
I know, it's so weird.
And there are like interviewswith Matt Damon and Jesse
Plemens like separately thatthey kind of talk about, like,
hey, y'all know that y'all lookalike?

SPEAKER_00 (52:11):
And they're like, we hear that all the time.
Do you do they go out and getthe same haircut right before
the interview?

SPEAKER_02 (52:16):
What they do is when they see each other on the
street, they're like, MattDamon.
And then Matt Damon points, MattDamon.
And they just yell Matt Damon ateach other.

SPEAKER_00 (52:28):
From uh World Police.

SPEAKER_02 (52:30):
Yeah, it's the best.
So, um The Ugly, something thatdidn't age well.
I saw I put um this is prettymuch the death of R-rated
comedies.
Yeah.
Not a lot after this.
I I can really remember off thetop of my head.
I mean, the w the movie that I'mdoing as a double feature came
out the same year, and that wasalso R-rated comedy.

SPEAKER_00 (52:51):
Well, I mean, would something like Rush Hour be
considered a comedy?
Yeah.

SPEAKER_02 (52:56):
Well, yeah, but I mean like since this was in
2018, it's like that we d Ihaven't really had a lot more
like that since and if it isthey just aren't Well, they're
just all streaming now.
This is like one of the few thatwas in the theater, I feel like,
at this point, and that peopleactually went to go see.
Yeah.

SPEAKER_00 (53:14):
I think uh I don't really have anything for ugly,
but I think I'll I don't know ifthe Dexter is what's his name?
Michael Seagall.
Michael Seagall.
I don't think he did like agreat job, but I would like to
see more uh stuff for him likethat.

SPEAKER_02 (53:30):
I'm gonna I'm gonna like s ran wrap him to a table.
Yeah, the thing I will say aboutthat is Michael C.
Hall is a really funny actor, but if he's uh like he's in
Documentary Now, I don't know ifyou ever heard of that, and it's
where they kind of like parody abunch of documentaries.
It's Bill Hader and like alllike the SNL from that era, like
uh kind of work together.

(53:50):
I'm blanking on his name.
I can't remember his name.
Fred Armiston, he's also in it.
Um Tim Robinson's in some ofthem.
It's it's really great if you'veseen the documentaries that
they're making fun of.
Um but if even if not, like it'sso funny.
But Michael C.
Hall has some comedy chap uhchops and they didn't really use
them as well as I feel like theycould have.
But I think they wanted to makehim not a comedic villain.

(54:12):
They're like, here's thevillain.
Okay.
But I think it would have beennice if he was a little funny
sometimes.
Yeah.
He could have been.
Yeah.
So the fine, I put Jason Batemanand Rachel McAdams comedy or
chemistry.
Uh they've been also just beengreat in everything they've done
together.
And I will say the the wittydialogue in the movie just looks
amazing.

(54:32):
It just looks great.

SPEAKER_00 (54:33):
Yeah.
Uh I can't wait to see more fromJason Bateman.
I think almost anything he's in.
She watched The Gift.
The Gift.

SPEAKER_02 (54:42):
Yeah, he directed it.
I think it's like his firstmovie he directed.
Um it's he's like funny in it,of course, because he's like
sarcastic, but it's a verystressful movie.
Oh no.
It's so good.
We watch it in theaters and likemy wife loves it, and it's
pretty fucked up ending, man.
Pretty fucked up ending.
It's great.
Um yeah, you should justanything, Jason Bay, man.

(55:04):
Just watch it.
I mean, rest of development.
God dang.
I could just watch that onrepeat every day.

SPEAKER_00 (55:08):
You still need to watch the fourth season of that
or third season, is it?
I'm not sure.
I don't know.
The latest season.

SPEAKER_02 (55:14):
Everything after everything after like the
original version.
It's like, it's fine.
It's fine, it's not as good, butit's fine.
Um, alright, so we're gonna hitup our next category, double
features, where we recommend amovie to go alongside this
movie.
What you got, Jason?

SPEAKER_00 (55:29):
Well, there's the Steve Carell date night movie.
That was a pretty fun one.
Mark Wahlberg's in it.
Yeah.
I love it.
Kill shot.
Kill shot.
He's like, hey, should we haveuh uh sex together, all of us?
And she says something like uhnot with him because he's weak.
He's weak.

SPEAKER_02 (55:51):
Um yeah, I've seen that once.
I thought it was actually prettyfunny because it's Tina Faye,
Steve Carill, Mark Wahlberg'shands.
Mark Wahlberg's part'sdefinitely my favorite part.
It's the part I remember themost.
Um I chose the 2018 movieBlockers.
It's actually cock blockers, butyou know, they can't they can't
say that.
Really?
And uh and it's like thetagline's like parents can be

(56:12):
such cock blockers.
So three parents try to stoptheir daughters from losing
their virginity on prom night.
It's got John Cena, um, IkeBarenholtz, and Leslie Mann, and
they're fucking hilarious.

SPEAKER_00 (56:25):
John Cena's a decent actor.
Yeah, this is crazy.

SPEAKER_02 (56:28):
Yeah, it's wow that out of all the wrestlers well
yeah, it's just weird watchingwrestling growing up and seeing
all these wrestlers try tobecome movie stars and stuff
like that.
And of course The Rock was themost successful at it, but um
was never really the best actor.
Right.
And then it turns out John Cenaand Dave Batista, two people I

(56:50):
thought were kind of bad promo.
Well, like Batista didn't havewasn't the most charismatic in
wrestling, uh like on the mic.
John Cena was, but like it wasjust so boring and like wooden.
And then you put them in moviesand they're great, and they're
like some of my favorite actorsnow, which is wild.
But yeah, this movie'shilarious.

(57:12):
Uh John Cena fucking rules, IkeBaronholt's Leslie Mann are
always solid in comedies, andyou guys check it out.
Um I am noticing that like it'sgot decent critic reviews, but
like uh audience reviews aren'tthe best.
And I'm like, Why?
Come on.
Alright.
That is our conclusion of gamenight.

(57:34):
Next week, we're gonna be doinga banger.
I just want a nice Thanksgiving.
Hell yeah, I'm recording a movieI really like.

SPEAKER_00 (57:42):
Get your Coronas.

SPEAKER_02 (57:43):
So just you know, on Thanksgiving, I want you to sit
on the couch with your favoritefamily, whether they're actually
family or just friends.
I want you to pop open a corona, maybe have a barbecue outside.
I don't know.
And then like pull up your car,put the e-brake on, and then
cover it, because we're gonna bedoing the Fast and the Furious,

(58:04):
baby.
I just I can't believe we'realmost like three years into
this shit, and I still have notdone Fast and the Furious, and
I've talked about it on thepodcast a few times.

SPEAKER_00 (58:12):
We only we do our podcast a quarter mile at a
time, a quarter mile at a time.

SPEAKER_02 (58:15):
So it takes a while, and it hasn't been on streaming.
Every time I think of it, I'mlike, it's not on anything.
God damn it.
So get ready.
Uh, we're gonna be laughing alot.
We're gonna be.
I have a feeling Jason is gonnabe making fun of this movie
constantly, and I'm gonna betelling him his bad opinions.
So if you can't wait for that, Ican't wait.
Well, you have to wait a weekfrom now, baby.

(58:38):
So yeah, join us for that.
It's probably the best Fast andthe Furious, uh, still today.
Um, this is where when cars gofast, it's light speed.
