Send us some fan mail!

A demon boy band steals hearts and souls, a trio of idol hunters skydive into a stadium, and somewhere between glitter and fire we ask the big question: why did a record-smashing hit feel “perfectly fine” to one of us and magical to the other? We dig into K-pop Demon Hunters with a clear lens: where the film’s bright worldbuilding and family-friendly humor soar, and where the emotions don’t quite crest for adult viewers. From that killer plane cold open to the bathhouse brawl and a variety show trap, we spotlight the set pieces that won us over and the action beats that left us wanting more punch.

We would love to hear from you! Send us an email and maybe it will be read on the podcast! werecommendmailbag@gmail.com

SPEAKER_03 (00:50):
I'm glad you feel that way.
What did you throw in tomatoesat you?

SPEAKER_02 (00:54):
I said perfectly fine.
You know, it's not the biggestrecommendation, but it was fun.
It was a fun little movie.
Yeah, you get you catch yourselfdancing.
Can I say I think this movie hasa few pop songs on them, and I
think they are all perfectlymid.
Doesn't help that like I'm notlike a big pop pop song guy.

(01:18):
Sure.
Yeah.
But no, I enjoyed the movie.
I was I guess it's also kind ofwild that like this movie took
the world by storm for a littlebit.
And uh so you know I had a lotof big big like expectations for
it, and then I was like, oh,it's just it's just this little
animated movie that peoplereally got riled up about.

SPEAKER_03 (01:40):
No, what do you think of the movie?
I really like it.
Uh started watching it with uhmy kids were watching it, and
it's a perfectly fine movie towatch with the kids.
Yeah.
Cause you really get into it.
And then the like the next dayafter, she was watching it
again, and I was just likecleaning the house, doing
chores, and just like singingthe songs with me and her both

(02:02):
are just like having a momentthere.
But yeah, I like that.
I had kids, this movie hadprobably really been a bop.
I think it's cute, I think it'sfunny.
Um I don't know, I just enjoyit.
What do you think made thismovie such a h such a hit?
And I guess this is I guesspeople really like K-pop.
Yeah, K K pop is huge.

(02:22):
Um I'm not really a huge fan ofit, I don't although I do like
how catchy it is.
Yeah.
And it's all sometimes it's justa song about candy.

SPEAKER_00 (02:32):
Yeah.

SPEAKER_03 (02:34):
What was your favorite song from the movie?
Um Takedown?
Takedown, yeah.
Although although we do singgolden mostly.

SPEAKER_02 (02:44):
I like the song at the beginning that they sing.
That was actually my favoritesong.
So I think that didn't help withme being like, You didn't make
any of the songs as good as thefirst song.

SPEAKER_03 (02:54):
I can't remember the names of the songs, but that one
is really good.
It kind of kicks ass and startsthe movie off strong.
Yeah.

SPEAKER_02 (03:00):
And I honestly, like that beginning sequence is kind
of like my whole favorite partof the whole movie.
It's it was when the plane wascut in half and they're just
standing on it while it's stillflying.

SPEAKER_03 (03:10):
I was like, okay, I'm super ready for this movie.
I love the demons too, how goofythey are.
Yeah, they look great.
And they're just like like whenthe plane's breaking apart,
they're just grabbing ontopieces of it and flying away,
like, haha, we got you.

SPEAKER_02 (03:22):
Yeah, it was great.
I re like starting at thebeginning, I was like, these
people on this plane are demons.
There's no other way aroundthis.

SPEAKER_03 (03:30):
She's watering the plant of coffee.

SPEAKER_02 (03:32):
Yeah.
Yeah.
That was all such a great whatwhat's like your kids' favorite
songs?
What was theirs?

SPEAKER_03 (03:40):
Uh I'm pretty sure Lila Claire likes Golden.
That was my second favorite.
I there might be another onethat's her favorite, possibly.
Um The other two, they don'treally give a shit about the
movie.
They didn't care about themovie.
Oh, so is this like youryoungest really like the movie?

(04:00):
Yeah, yeah.
Well, and the other the othertwo the ha they like it, but
they they're not in love withit.
It's like I felt like this wasyour oldest, like right up her
wheelhouse.

SPEAKER_02 (04:09):
She did like it.
Yeah.

SPEAKER_03 (04:10):
Although she likes um she loves anime.

SPEAKER_02 (04:14):
Yeah.
Oh, both all my kids.
So what's your favoritecharacter and why is it bird and
tiger?
He's great.
Dude, the tiger was the burdentiger.
The bird and tiger, yeah, thebird with the hat.
Yeah.
And then you learn that the birdhas the hat because it was meant
for the tiger, but the bird kepttaking it.

unknown (04:31):
Yes.

SPEAKER_02 (04:32):
So good.
And the tiger just trying toflip the thing.
He's such a nice little tiger.

SPEAKER_03 (04:39):
And I really like Bobby.
I think he's like he's fun, sosupportive.
Yeah, I love him.

SPEAKER_02 (04:45):
Jesus.
Ugh, yeah.
Um, and I also, oh shit, how doyou say his his name?
Jin Yoon?

unknown (04:54):
Yeah.

SPEAKER_02 (04:54):
What's his name?
Yeah, something like that.
Yeah, I had it looked up.
I know how to say the uh the bigbat in it.
Um, let me hold on.
The big bat Gui Gaemau.

SPEAKER_03 (05:03):
Guy Maw.

SPEAKER_02 (05:04):
Guimaw.

SPEAKER_03 (05:05):
Yeah, he was he was great.
I love like all the demons arein front of Guy Ma and they're
just stupid as hell.

SPEAKER_02 (05:12):
Yeah, I know.
I love the D the little d demonsin the audience are so great.
It's like they either love theband, and then whenever like he
comes back and they're like,he's in trouble, and they're
just like, why the long facesare like, oh how dare you betray
us?
This movie did a good job makingfeel bad for demons, though.

(05:33):
I would say it was veryeffective in that.
Nah, but they're trying to eatyour soul and stuff.
Yeah, but it's just like itain't their fault.

SPEAKER_03 (05:40):
Yeah, it really must be.
Now they're stuck in demons.
I feel like Demon World.
Yeah.
If they had something else to doother than eat souls, maybe they
we could get all get along.

SPEAKER_02 (05:50):
Yeah.
Like, come on, dude.
Alright, so uh there isapparently deeper meaning to the
name Saja boys.
Oh yeah.
Yeah.
The Korean word Saja can meanlion, and we see their logo and
branding include lion and imlion imagery.
However, in cre in Koreanfolklore, Jiosung Saja are grim
reaper figures who escorts thesoul of the dead to the

(06:11):
afterlife.
Typically, depictions of themshow them wearing a black honbok
and a gat, wide-brimmed hat.
All right.
Uh, just like the Saja boys indemon forms.
Yeah, they look cool.
Yeah, it reminded me a lot oflike uh some characters from
Bloodborne, the video game.
Hell yeah.
So when they're in their littlethings, there's like priests

(06:32):
that kind of look like they'dlooked in the game, and I was
like, hell yeah, I like theseoutfits.
They should wear them like thisall the time.

SPEAKER_03 (06:38):
Yeah, the outfits has definitely spawned a culture
of their own.

SPEAKER_02 (06:42):
Yeah.

SPEAKER_03 (06:43):
Yeah.
It's like I could see a bunch oflike boys this big going out as
hunters.
Did you see any people dressedup as demon hunters?
No, I didn't Halloween.

SPEAKER_02 (06:50):
I don't really have a lot of people, I guess, that
post pictures of kids on myFacebook or Instagram.

SPEAKER_03 (06:55):
The two most co uh costumes that I saw were Demon
Hunter, like the purple hairwith the braid.
Rummy.
Rummy, yeah.
And then uh uh Rumi, maybe Rumi.
I don't know.
I think that was it, yeah.
And uh General Hogwartscharacter.

SPEAKER_02 (07:11):
Like General Hogwarts.

SPEAKER_03 (07:13):
Like General Hogwarts outfit.

SPEAKER_02 (07:14):
Oh, just like Harry Potter shit, yeah.
Yeah.
Which I have did you watch theuh on HBO Max they have the
Harry Potter BakingChampionship?
No.
You should watch it.
It's great.
They make some of the coolestand dopest shit.

SPEAKER_03 (07:27):
Do they have like the actors there?

SPEAKER_02 (07:29):
Uh some of them come in.

SPEAKER_03 (07:30):
Yeah, it's hosted by the twins.
Yeah, you know that um was thatGoyle or Crab?
Crab and Goyle, yeah.
Crab is going to jail.
Oh, that's good.
He had a huge pot farm in hishouse.
Oh, why is he going to jail?

SPEAKER_02 (07:45):
Oh gosh.
Well, he should just move toCalifornia.
Everything would be okay.
Yeah, I think he was in the UK.
Yeah.
The UK.
I don't know why I said that.
So the uh film received 325million views within its first
91 days of release.
Half of them by your youngest.
Uh, making the most watchedNetflix film surpassing Red

(08:08):
Notice, which received 231million views in that time
frame.
That's the hell was Red Notice.
Ryan Gosling, not Ryan Gosling,Ryan Reynolds, The Rock and Gal
Godot film that came out in2021.
Uh, it was considered not good, but uh everybody in the world
watched it multiple times, apparently, I guess.
I don't know.
I I think I started watching Isthat the Santa Claus one?

(08:31):
No, no, that's Red One.
That's Red One.
Also bad.
The red notice.
Yeah, I was gonna say I rememberseeing that the trailer for that
movie.

SPEAKER_03 (08:39):
I did like Krampus, though.
He was awesome in that movie.

SPEAKER_02 (08:42):
I think I saw all Krampus in the trailer.
I don't know.
I saw that movie and I was like, wow, they're just trying to do
the Marvel thing, but withSanta.
Santa is like what we do.

SPEAKER_03 (08:50):
Perfect combination.

SPEAKER_02 (08:51):
Perfect combination.
Everybody loves Santa, he's sojolly.
So, according to co-directorMaggie King, the Maltese Tiger
and Magpie duo, whose names werenot revealed in the movie, are
named Derpy and Susie.
And the reason why they cantravel between the human world
and the demon world is becausethey are not demons, but Korean
supernatural creatures.
She based them on a famousKorean folk painting of the

(09:12):
tiger and the magpie.
And if you look at the painting, which I have done, the tiger
looks exactly like the tiger.

SPEAKER_03 (09:20):
Except it's not blue, it's uh, you know, like a
tiger, but it's got the derpylittle face.
Fuck yeah.
Do you think birds had hats inancient history?
Like, do you think they thoughtit was funny to put a hat on a
bird?
If they didn't, they shouldhave.

unknown (09:30):
Oh God.

SPEAKER_02 (09:31):
It's such a shame that birds have lost their sense
of style and no longer wearhats.
I love birds though.
Cats and birds.
All great.
So uh the soundtrack has foursongs in the hot 100s top tens
simultaneously, suppressingSaturday Night Fever and Waiting
to Exhale, which each of whichhad three songs in the top ten

(09:52):
simultaneously.
This movie is breaking records.
Yes, and it's wild.
It's like, and because I likeknew all this going in, I was
like, man, this is gonna be themost bop of all bops.
And you know, thinking about it,and I was like, why is it that
it just wasn't connecting?
Because I mean it had like allthe elements of all great like

(10:12):
kids' movies that also transcendkids' movies and become adult
movies.
And I guess it just you know, Iguess as an adult, I'm like, uh
I've seen this story a thousandtimes.
Like, oh, it's not about who youare on the outside, it's about
who you are on the inside, andyou'd gotta come to terms with
it.
It just never made me cry.
Yeah, it didn't even come close.

(10:33):
And I think that's why like themovie that I'm gonna recommend
uh to go alongside this moviedoes.
And like every every good Pixarmovie, I'm just like, don't cry.
Don't.
It's a children's movie.
You can't cry.
And this movie never got therefor me.
Yeah, no.
Though when she is walkingthrough the crowd at the end,
and like, you know, it's like, hey, I'm not bad.

(10:57):
Um I'm gonna be both sides andbe good about it.
I was like, I okay, I can kindof feel it.
I feel it happening.
But there I guess there justneeded to be like a bigger, like
honestly, kind of monologue withthe two friends, like a better
one that would have reallyboosted up the emotions for me.
And it just didn't do it in thisone.
Not saying I don't like themovie, just to say I think it's

(11:18):
a perfectly fine movie, as Isaid.
It was just wild because like, you know, all my friends like
would be like, Yeah, you gottawatch it.
And I was like, Oh man, it'sgonna be good.
And every time I watched thetrailer, I was like, Are we
sure?
Are we sure about that?
But again, it's also just notthe biggest, like my favorite
type of music, which doesn'thelp.
And also the ending song Ithought was maybe my least

(11:40):
favorite song of the wholemovie, yeah, which was kind of a
bummer.
Yeah, should have saved likegold until the end or something.

SPEAKER_00 (11:46):
Oh yeah.

SPEAKER_02 (11:47):
Um, so Maggie Kang revealed in a Netflix interview
that Jinyu's soul is trappedwith Rum Rumi's sword opening
the potential for a return in asequel.

SPEAKER_03 (11:58):
How is that was that explained in the movie?

SPEAKER_02 (12:01):
Yeah, it was like the whole thing, she like blast
and it's like I'll be with youforever.
Uh because you know, love andthen it's like I'm in the sword.
She's gonna kiss her sword.
Sword like and then that gaveher the power to defeat all
demons.
Hell yeah.
Yeah.
Um I'm trying to think, is thereanything else?

SPEAKER_03 (12:24):
I really liked how um the the interaction between
her fans and her how they're soinsanely just crazy about them.

SPEAKER_02 (12:35):
I know I did like I love all the animation.
It's very Mitchell's and versusMachines type animation because
it's that Sony animation thatthey do for all their nephews.
And then every once in a whileit changes just a little bit.
Yeah, I'll I really like thosemovies.
But like uh I love yeah, the faninteractions and like how in
love with them, but like notinsane, like and you know,
suffocating they can be, like wesee Taylor Swift fans and all

(12:57):
those people be.
Also, something I really loveabout the movie is like all the
extra stuff, like the corn onthe eyes.

SPEAKER_03 (13:05):
Yeah, the coming pot when he sees his abs.

SPEAKER_02 (13:08):
Yeah, all that stuff was fantastic.
And I was like, we need athousand more scenes like this
in this movie.

SPEAKER_03 (13:16):
He was like signing his autograph with his abs, like
he was just tracing his abs.

SPEAKER_02 (13:20):
Yeah, it's so good.
And I loved all their names likeabs romance.
They're just like demons werejust like, what do people like?
Girls like abs, girls likeromance, girls like babies.
They're like the demon spiceboys.
Yeah, and it was very, veryclever in terms of all those.
Um, out of all the like humancharacters, well, all the out of

(13:42):
the three girls who were yourfavorite?
Uh I can't remember her name, the shore head one that raps a
lot.
Zoe.
Zoe, yes.
Yeah, she was my favorite too.
She was all she was the mostfunny.
I guess out of the boys, who didyou like?
Um my favorite was Mophead.
Mophead, yeah, he was great.
Zoe is like constantly likeoogling him, and it's like, look

(14:03):
at his perfectly symmetricalface.
It's like you can't see any ofit.
You can see his mouth.

SPEAKER_03 (14:07):
I don't know, maybe baby, because he's always
wearing a bib.
So fucking weird.

SPEAKER_02 (14:12):
It's funny because it just reminds me of um Balls
Burgers in the boy band andthat.
Yes.
And I was just like, oh man.
I was like, wow, I feel likethey may have got a little bit
from them.
Because they're right in a carseat.
Yeah.
The only thing that was missingwas that one old which I know
this is because it's K-pop, it'snot like America's boy bands,
where there's always one that'sobviously 10 years older than

(14:34):
the rest of the boy band.
Like in Backstreet Boys, AJ, Ithink, is obviously an adult
singing with kids, whatever he'syounger.
Um, so also I guess we shouldtalk.
Um so this movie is really allabout like these three singers
constantly wanting to work orthey want to relax, but then as

(14:54):
soon as there's like something'slike they're trying to save the
earth.
Now we have to sing because welove it so much when there's
like, you know, the whole thingwith uh I think it's k-pop bands
bands where they're overworkedand they pass out.

SPEAKER_03 (15:07):
They're basically just raised from children to and
put in this machine of K-pop.

SPEAKER_02 (15:12):
But this movie made it positive, and it's like, I
don't know about that.

SPEAKER_03 (15:16):
Well, they weren't doing it because they love to
sing, or they probably did, butthey had to create the Han Moon
and save the people's souls.

SPEAKER_02 (15:24):
Which is golden moon, I think.
Or it's like golden barrier,yeah.
Golden Gate, I think, is whereit's gonna barrier or whatever
that is.

SPEAKER_00 (15:31):
Yeah.

SPEAKER_02 (15:32):
Alright, man.
Should we hop into the plot?
Before we do that, we're gonnatalk uh we want you to think
about what the point of thismovie is.
Is it K-pop good, demons bad,K-pop demon hunters really good?
I know what it is.
I know what the point is.
Um, but yeah, if you want totell us what you think the plot
point of it is, you can leave acomment if you're on YouTube, or
you can go over to ourdescription and send us some fan

(15:54):
mail link at the top.
And at the bottom, there's ouremail.
If you can't click the link,it's we recommend mailbag at
gmail.com.
Nice.
All right, Jason.
Let's get into 2025's K-popdemon hunters.
Yeah.
So the movie oh we have anopening scene.
We learn about how demons attackvillages and that hunters slash

(16:16):
singers are able to protectpeople from demons because their
voices give a protectivebarrier.
I do like how they made theheroes girls.

SPEAKER_01 (16:23):
Yeah.

SPEAKER_02 (16:24):
That's great.
And it was kind of perfect thatthey put like girl band, boy
band.
Yeah.
It's a great one.
Evil voice.
Yeah.
Um we then we meet our hunters.
We got Mira, she's a dancer, shewas a black sheep of her family.
She's kind of the cool edgy one.
She's very edgy.
Um and broody.
Yeah.
Uh and like she even wore asleeping bag to the Met Gala.

(16:46):
That was awesome.
Which isn't even the weirdestthing that's worn at a Met Gala.

SPEAKER_03 (16:49):
I've seen this in other cards animes as well,
wearing people who that w justwear sleeping bags around.
Yeah.
So it's oh you always gotta playsleep.

SPEAKER_00 (16:57):
Yeah, yeah, I guess.

SPEAKER_02 (16:58):
Um you have Zoe, she's a rapper, she goes hard.
Uh, but she's also kind of likeuh she always wants everybody to
love her.
Yeah.
Um then you have Rummy, theleader.
Um we learned that Celine raisedher and built Huntry's around
her.
And I guess like Celine's isCeline her mother?

SPEAKER_03 (17:20):
I think so.
Yes.
Couldn't remember.
She was also um the star of thesunrise or like the whatever the
80s band was.

SPEAKER_02 (17:28):
Yeah.
Um and which I do love.
Like I love all kind of all thelore at the opening.
I thought it was really great.
Um is great, quick uh worldbuilding very quickly, and it
puts you in it and you're like,I get it everything.
Perfectly.
Something about like kids kids'movies, like they're almost
better than adult movies whenit's in terms of building lore

(17:49):
and world building.
I guess because you haveanimation and it's kind of
easier.
And you kind of accept like thebreak-in reality sometimes.
Yeah, yeah.
I I get that.
So they are supposed to be at ashow, but they're still on a
plane.
Bobby's like, what the hell?

SPEAKER_03 (18:04):
I love they're eating all the stuffing in their
mouth.
That's what I put myself.
So funny.

SPEAKER_02 (18:08):
My notes like they eat crazy.

SPEAKER_03 (18:11):
And they've got their own ramen or whatever that
is.
Yeah, and they have like theirnames on each pole.
It's like that's simple.
It's great brand.

SPEAKER_02 (18:18):
I will say animes and like uh more Asian uh you
know cartoons, they always makeme so hungry.
Yeah, the food looks amazing.
I was watching at like 7 30 a.m.
Like my stomach, I'm like, no,wait till you finish notes.
You don't have much time to yourecord.
Um, but then uh Bobby calls andis like, hey, why are you on a
plane?

(18:38):
Your show's down here.
They look down, they see thestadium, like ah, and then they
turn around, it's like, we're ona plane full of demons.
Um they all try to be scary, butuh they keep like uh oh yeah.
So all the the you just see thedemons, one's like watering a
plant with coffee, one's justpressing buttons at the plane,
the other one's just putting theseatbelts together, and uh all

(19:01):
the demons are trying to bescary to them, but then they
just keep burping because theyjust ate so much food.
It's so good.
Um, so then they fight, andwhile they're singing how it's
done, which is probably my ohyeah, my favorite song.
That's what's um and they easilydefeat the demons and then they
skydive into the stadium.
Yeah.
And the audience is like, thisseems up to snuff.

(19:23):
I would watch this band.
Nothing weird is happening.
This is total normal stuff.

SPEAKER_03 (19:30):
If your your artist comes skydiving into the
stadium, that's pretty awesome.

SPEAKER_02 (19:35):
So do you think the audience members in this movie
know that magic exists, or arethey blind to it and just think
everything is really cooleffects?

SPEAKER_03 (19:44):
Yeah, I think I think they're completely
oblivious to anything that'shappening.

SPEAKER_02 (19:48):
Because they make it seem like, whoa, that was really
cool special effects.
How did they do that?
It's like and eventually likeyou have people teleporting all
around you, and y'all seemA-okay with it, and then a giant
demon face in the background.
Like it kills that one demon, and they're like, wow, great
effects.
Great effects.
Never seen this before.
Um, so while singing, we see thebarrier that keeps the demons at

(20:08):
bay, like surrounding the wholetown, essentially.
Um, and then like right underthe ground, you see a bunch of
demons like smacked up againstthe wall.
And it's like, ah, this isgreat.
Trying to get out.
And this is when I was like, this movie's fucking going.
Let's go, baby.
So in the underworld, we see GMaw punishes his demon minions
for being defeated by Huntryxand failing to deliver human

(20:30):
souls.
G Ma is then approached by oneof his oldest demons, Ginyu, who
comes up with an idea for how tocombat the Huntryx.

SPEAKER_03 (20:41):
His backstory kind of sucks.
Yeah.
It's a good story.
Um, it's Ginu, not Gin.

SPEAKER_02 (20:48):
Yeah.
Yeah.
Until you rent find out his realreason.

SPEAKER_03 (20:53):
What's his oh, yeah.

SPEAKER_02 (20:55):
Yeah.
Yeah.
Well, we'll get there.
So uh he and four other demonstransform themselves into the
Shaja Boys, a demon boy bandthat is going to target Hunterx
fans.

SPEAKER_03 (21:04):
When they all show up, they're all just like
posing.
Yeah, it's so ridiculous.
Yeah.

SPEAKER_02 (21:09):
That was like all the little stuff that I loved
about this video.

SPEAKER_03 (21:12):
The demons of the crowd are like, this is gonna
work.

SPEAKER_02 (21:15):
Yes, this is an excellent idea.
And finally, we'll have goodmusic down here.
Um, so they're gonna target theHun Trix fans, which will bring
the what'd you call it?
On moon?
On moon, yeah, uh, down.
Jima notes that G Ginu must wantsomething out of this, and Ginu
simply says he wants his painfulmemories erased.

(21:37):
Hell yeah.
Which I get, because you know hemade a mistake back in the day,
400 years ago.
Now he's like, can we like notconstantly think about this?
Sorry, excuse me.
It's okay.

SPEAKER_03 (21:47):
It's like the what's that one movie with Jim Carrey
where he wants his memories, memories erased?
He should have just gone toGreen Hall.

SPEAKER_02 (21:53):
Eternal Sunshine of Spotless Mind.
Snake's like, come on, no, Iknow that movie.
Um, so Hunter's is set to take ahiatus after the last show, but
while Mir and Zoe are in theprocess of relaxing, couch,
couch, couch.
Totally understand that.
That's me on the way home.

SPEAKER_03 (22:11):
And their couch looks so comfortable.

SPEAKER_02 (22:12):
I know, it's giant.
I wish I was a rich K-pop star.
Yeah.
Even though I guess you neverget to enjoy your couch.

SPEAKER_03 (22:17):
Um they got all their junk food ready to go.
Yeah.

SPEAKER_02 (22:21):
Rumi goes ahead and announces that the launch of
their next hit single, golden, which means they have to start
promoting it right away becausethey come in because they are
getting ready for the couch.
And then Rumi's just like, launch, and then goes into her
giant wardrobe thing and finallygets her golden outfit.
Yeah.
And then kind of comes up behindthe other guys uh because they
learn, like, oh, your newsingle's launching.

(22:42):
They're like, Rumi, no, we justwanted to couch.
And while they're recordingtheir song for a music video,
Rumi's voice begins to crack.

SPEAKER_00 (22:53):
No.

SPEAKER_02 (22:54):
And she's hitting some high notes there.
Yeah, it's like, I think it'sokay to crack once, right?
You can just like get a drink ofwater and then try it again.
Uh she goes somewhere privatewhere it's revealed through
demon patterns on her arms thatshe is half demon.

SPEAKER_03 (23:07):
Yeah.

SPEAKER_02 (23:08):
You'd just be like, now these are tattoos.

SPEAKER_03 (23:10):
Her mom was always like, Don't look at that.
Don't look at that.
Just be embarrassed by that.

SPEAKER_02 (23:13):
Don't be who you should just be.

SPEAKER_03 (23:16):
Yeah.

SPEAKER_02 (23:17):
There's no such thing.

SPEAKER_03 (23:18):
She had sex with a demon, okay?
Yeah, it's like, hey.
I mean, I'm assuming.
That's how she became, she saidyour father was a demon.

SPEAKER_02 (23:26):
He just hit it.
He hit it very well, I guess.
So a flash rack reveals thatCeline knew that Rumi is half
demon on her father's side, andshe has always made sure to keep
Rumi's secret hidden from Miraand Zoe.
Rumi tries to sing on a rooftopbut can't.
It breaks down.
When she screams in anger, wesee her emit a demon sound wave.

(23:46):
It's like red instead of blue.
Yeah.

SPEAKER_03 (23:48):
It's like Hulk Smash.

SPEAKER_02 (23:50):
Yeah.
So the girls discuss pushingback some shows, but Rumi
expresses how important theirnext show is because it will
seal the demons away for anentire year.
Yeah, then they can couch allthey want.
Yeah, for one year, and thenthey have to go back on tour.

SPEAKER_03 (24:04):
And they'd be in such horrible shape after eating
all that junk food.
Yeah, for real.

SPEAKER_02 (24:09):
They're gonna be like, well, it's time to work
out.
Need some demons to come back sowe can get some exercise.

SPEAKER_03 (24:14):
K blob.

SPEAKER_02 (24:16):
Got their S' so hoping to fix Rumi's voice, the
ladies visit Healer Han, playedby Daniel Day Kim.
Yeah.
He was like one of my favorites.
I loved his eyes.
Who he literally stares deepinto the ladies' eyes, except
Mira, because she scares him,and determines the type of

(24:36):
people they are.
His eyes open crazy wide, and hesees that Rumi has walls built
up, and we learn that Zoe is apeople pleaser.

SPEAKER_03 (24:44):
He's basically um fortune teller.
Yeah, right.
That's what they do.

SPEAKER_02 (24:51):
They just make up he reads he reads Auras.
Yeah.
Aura.
And then like um, so then Hangives them tonics for Rumi's
voice.
We'll learn later that he justput his own picture on some
grape juice.

SPEAKER_03 (25:03):
That's so true.
Homeopathic medicine can bebullshit.

SPEAKER_02 (25:06):
Yeah, exactly.

SPEAKER_03 (25:07):
Some of it's fine.

SPEAKER_02 (25:08):
You just can't put you just can't put mineral oils
all over you and think you'regonna get better, guys.
So on their way out, theyencounter the five demons, now
known as the Saja Boys.
They have uh bad hair.
And they are jerks.
The girls immediately havecrushes.
Uh you got hard eyes, corn, thenthere's butter on the corn, then
popcorn as uh shirt pops open, abs shirt pops open.

(25:34):
Yeah, and then Rumi has a crushon G New.
Right?
G New G New.
Ginu.
Gnu leads them alongsideromance, mystery, abs, and baby.
I don't think baby ever actuallysays a word the whole time.
I don't think he's able to talk.
Go, go, go, go.

(25:54):
Uh, the tree are enamored bythem and still think they are
jerks when Ginu knocks Romydown.
The Saja boys then go into TownSquare and perform their single.

SPEAKER_03 (26:03):
And he also does that thing where he's gonna help
her up.

SPEAKER_02 (26:06):
Yeah, then like brushes off his shoulder.
And we'll see that again in fiveseconds.
So they um yeah, they go to thetown square and perform their
single Soda Pop.
I did like I did like that songtoo.
It was very catchy.

SPEAKER_03 (26:20):
Lila Claire will sing that song and then she'll
make the cracking the can opennoise after she says it.

SPEAKER_02 (26:26):
So yeah, they perform their song immediately,
earning themselves a huge numberof fans.
The three girls quickly see thatthey are demons.
Um I love that when they startplaying their song, like
everybody in the audience isdancing, and the three of them
are just are just watching, thenZoe starts dancing, and then
they all they all three startdoing it a little bit.

(26:47):
It's like, well, it is kind ofcatchy.
Um, and then like they makehearts come out, and I think
Zoe, I think, is the one it'slike they can make hearts
appear.
Catches it and busts it.
And then they make likeeverything super colorful for a
minute, and everybody's like, whoa! And it's like, how do you
how are they doing this?
Y'all should ask questions.
And then they vanish in pinkpink or reddish smoke.

(27:11):
The rap that one guy does.
Yeah.
I will say, oh man, great introfor these people, though.
They did the intros for bothlittle bands, like great.
Oh perfect.
And then so the Soja Boysannounce they will be on a
variety show later, though.

SPEAKER_03 (27:26):
They're busy.

SPEAKER_02 (27:27):
Whatever this variety show is.

SPEAKER_03 (27:29):
It's play a game with us.

SPEAKER_02 (27:30):
Yeah.
So Hunter tries to sneak intothe variety show in their
leather outfits.
I love when they get ready.
It's so badass.
It's great.
Uh but the Shah boys bring themout as special guests, forcing
them to join in the show.
They have to slide down someslides, which is hard and
leather.

SPEAKER_00 (27:47):
The leather betrayed us.

SPEAKER_02 (27:50):
Um, and then like I think what they like help them
up, it's like one of theaudience members, like, they're
hot and respectful.

SPEAKER_03 (27:58):
Yes.
Just yells out from the crowd, you can't see their face.

SPEAKER_02 (28:02):
Yeah.
And then you uh then they likego to bow and the other group
bows and they just keep bowinglower and lower.

SPEAKER_03 (28:10):
When you see them running out the Saja boys
running out the door, like oneof them's piggybacking on the
other one.

SPEAKER_02 (28:14):
Yeah, it's like what?
So goopy.
I love the little demons.
They're little, they're littlegoofballs.
It's like, you know what?
If we're gonna terrorizeeverybody, we're gonna have fun
doing it.
And that's what I respect aboutthe demons.
So after the show, Hunterxchases the Saja boys through an
alley and into a bathhouse wherethey start to fight summoned
water demons.
Yeah.
Rumi and Ginu battle in ascuffle.

(28:36):
Genu discovers Rumi's secret, but he doesn't let it slip to
Mira and Zoe and even helps hideher patterns.
And then Hunterx defeats thewater demons because he like
rips her sleeves and is likethey kind of embrace for a
second tattoos and then he putslike a little He bandages it.
He bandages it so they can'tsee.
Aren't you just like, oh?
Yeah, I was.

(28:56):
I was just like, all.
I mean, I know they're gonnabattle again.
And then I was like, okay, sothis is immediately gonna be a
romance movie as well.
Um, so the Saja boys escape, andHunter's has to leave the bath
bathhouse because all the menare like, hey, this is a men's
bathhouse.

SPEAKER_03 (29:12):
Thanks for saving us.
Yeah, we didn't see any of it.
Yeah.

SPEAKER_02 (29:14):
Well, bathhouse are very, very foggy.

SPEAKER_03 (29:18):
I didn't know that they were still a thing.

unknown (29:19):
Yeah.

SPEAKER_03 (29:20):
I guess even in the I guess they are.
Well, they have like saunas andstuff, but in Japan and stuff.

SPEAKER_02 (29:24):
They have some in America.
Yeah.
Spaws have them.
It's just you go there, you getin some really hot water and get
naked with some bunch of otherdudes.
Yeah, it's what me and the boysdo every day.
That's awesome.
Yeah, so G Mall pulls G Nu backto the underworld world briefly
to commend him for his plan.
It's starting to work.
The Saja boys have alreadystarted to gather souls.

(29:45):
He got like one soul.
Yeah.
Like there's more of that kindof thing.
Well, they had like three going.
They're like, ah, this isamazing.
These souls are delicious.
Um, G Nu says it's good thatRumi is half even because it
means.
She has shame.
Yeah.
Bum, bum, bum.
Everybody's worst enemy.
Shame.
She must be Catholic.

(30:08):
So the girls look out at thecity and see their barriers
aren't holding up.

SPEAKER_03 (30:12):
Oh shit.

SPEAKER_02 (30:13):
The ladies plan their next course of actions
against the demon.
They are going to defeat them atthe idol wards and they're going
to come up with a new song, adiss track.
It's like, what?
People really love diss tracksthese days.

SPEAKER_03 (30:26):
I don't I've I didn't even hear the one from
what's his face.
Oh, I guess it was on he playedit during the Super Bowl, right?

SPEAKER_01 (30:33):
Who?
The guy.

SPEAKER_02 (30:35):
Oh, Kendrick Lamar.
Yeah.

SPEAKER_03 (30:36):
Yeah.

SPEAKER_02 (30:37):
Was that a diss song?
I didn't even know it was untillater.
It's essentially the diss chongabout Drake.
Yeah.
That's why he says that.
Yeah.
Uh one of the best diss chongdisc tracks ever.
Awesome.
Obviously, Kendrick Lamar andEminem are the best at diss
tracks right now.
So uh Hundrix, don't come afterthem.
Eminem made his career on disstracks.
Yeah, I mean, he pretty muchjust like, you know what?
I'm not I'm just gonna disseverybody no matter what.

(31:00):
That's great.
Oh, my producer Drake?
Yeah, I'm gonna diss him alittle bit too myself.
Um so yeah, the lady their roomymeets is met by G News Pet Bird
and Tiger who's in her aninvitation to meet with him.
Um, yeah, this is a bit wherethe tiger knocks over the bird

(31:20):
is sighing.
Yeah.
It's like, uh and I love thatlike at first you see the bird,
it's got two eyes and it likehas three eyes all of a sudden.
And then he just kind of walksaround.
You can tell he's a littlepompous ass bird.
Um and then like the tiger comesout and he looks he looks like
the Cheshire cat a little bit,but like way derpier.
Yeah, and then comes out, knocksover a pot, and then just keeps
trying to tip it back over, buthe can't do it.

(31:43):
So derpy.
And then she's like, just don'tworry.
Hey, just don't worry about thepot, okay?
It's not that big of a deal.
But it's nice because when Ifirst saw him, I was like, oh,
there's no way these are demonanimals.
And then it's nice that I readin the notes like, no, they're
not demons, they can do whateveryou want.
They're spiritual animals.

SPEAKER_03 (31:59):
Yeah, they're like messengers, Mike Hyp.

SPEAKER_02 (32:00):
Yeah, and it seems like they just like to hang out
with Ginu.
Um, and then so uh she acceptsthe invitation and they meet on
a rooftop where Rumi isinitially hostile to Ginu until
he explains his backstory.
Because 400 years ago, he livedwith his mother and sister in
destitution.
He made a deal with G Maw for abetter life.

(32:21):
His voice brought him goodfortune, and his family were
allowed to live in the palace.
However, G Maw pulled G Ginuinto the underworld, and his
disappearance forced his motherand sister back out into the
streets where they died withouthim.
That sucks.
Ooh.
And good thing this is a truestory, and there's not gonna be
a sadder version after this.

SPEAKER_03 (32:45):
Why did he pull him down, you know?
Is that what happens when youmake a deal with the devil?

SPEAKER_02 (32:50):
Yeah, I mean, you can't make a deal with the devil
and work out, and we'll learnthat.
That's not quite what actuallyhappened.
We'll learn soon.
Oh the G Nu tells Rumi, Rumi, Idon't know, that her markings
are like the his due to the ahidden shame.
She says she is nothing likehim.
Yeah, I am not like you.
The ladies try to come up, um,then we cut to the they kind of

(33:13):
end their thing.
Uh, the ladies try to come upwith a powerful distract for the
upcoming Idol Awards that willsend the Saja Boys home and
create the golden homoon?
Hon moon.
Um, and their song is gonna becalled Takedown.
Yeah.

SPEAKER_03 (33:27):
Are you ready for Take Down?

unknown (33:29):
Yeah.

SPEAKER_02 (33:29):
So we see a montage of the ladies competing in award
competition against the SajaBoys.
Saja boys win one, the girls winthe other, and they're also
defeating demons left and right.
The Saja boys are gaining morefans, however.
Uh Bobby arranges for the SajaBoys to join Hunter's during a
fan event.
To the ladies' dismay, rumorsstart flying about the because
like the Saja boys come up andit's like, it's okay, we have

(33:51):
two tables.
Half the audience splits, andthen Romy's like, no, let's
actually do it together.

SPEAKER_03 (33:56):
That was funny.
Like, yeah, uh Mira was likesigning her name, really like
scribbling hard.
Yeah, it's like coming out ofher eyes.

SPEAKER_02 (34:04):
Like, yeah, two boys next to her.
Um, so rumors start flying abouttheir pairings.
Uh Romy with Ginu.
Yes, the one with the shirt.
Yeah.
What do you call that?
The ship.
Yeah.
Oh yeah.
And uh Mira with abs andromance, Zoe with mystery.
While Rumi and Ginu try to keeptheir commun wait, no, not

(34:25):
mystery, baby.
My bad.
Uh Rumi and Ginu try to keeptheir communications low-key.
At the end of the event, Ginu istouched when a little girl gets
him a drawing saying he is abeautiful Saul.
Aww.
He's gonna he's gonna change hismind.
I just know it.

unknown (34:44):
It's gonna be.

SPEAKER_02 (34:44):
And then everything's gonna work out
perfectly, and G Maul's notgonna figure out anything about
this.
No.
So Rumi becomes uncomfortablewith the lyrics of their new
diss track while practicing asshe starts to come with terms on
who she really is.
The bird and tiger hang out withher more.
Mira knocks at the door and shetells the tiger to go, but a
trash can is knocked over, sothe tiger tries to flip it back
over with Mira in the room.

(35:06):
Good bit.
That when that happened, I waslike, yes.
My only issue is they didn't doit a third time.
Yeah.
Everything's funny in threes.
It's a rule of threes in comedy.
Come on, man.
Uh Mira starts to notice thatsomething is up with Rumi, but
she makes it seem like it's justabout the song.
Mira thinks she's keepingsomething from her.
Rumi says that she isn't whileholding an invitation and a

(35:28):
tiger tail behind her.

SPEAKER_03 (35:29):
I feel like they'd they'd be cool with her.

SPEAKER_02 (35:30):
Yeah, they would immediately be cool.
Just be like, hey guys, I'mgonna sit down and calmly
explain this to you so you don'tsee it.
Mom, banged a demon, dude.
Don't know what to tell you.
That makes me half human, halfdemon, but you've known me all
your life and we've been workingtogether.
Obviously.
Obviously, I'm a good guy.
So let's close up this portaland maybe my markings will go

(35:52):
away.
People just gotta communicate inmovies.
Every movie would end in fiveminutes if they just
communicated most of the time.
You have to hide your shame.
Yes.
And there has to be a movie.
So the ladies hear that SajaBoys have amassed more than 50
million fans and secretly takingtheir souls.
We see like one, a demon comeout of a Saja Boys poster and

(36:16):
suck the soul out of a guy onhis phone.
When you lose your soul, youjust die.
Your body just fall over?
Well, I think technically, no.
But when you do die, you do goto the underworld, I would
assume.
I don't know, dude.
It's obvious.
Um, so Rumi goes to Ginu andtells him they should let them

(36:38):
win the idol awards to block offthe demons and he can stay up
top and live a normal life.
She talks about how her patternsare a mistake, just like the
mistake he made 400 years ago.
The two obviously have a crushon each other.
Ginu tells Rumi that he doesn'tthink she's a mistake.
It's hot.
It's so it's so happy.

(36:58):
It's like, oh, they f in thisworld they found each other.
Even with their differences, they're the same.

SPEAKER_03 (37:05):
What if her dad was his dad?

SPEAKER_02 (37:08):
That would be crazy.
That would be pretty weird.
So they are practicing theirsong, and Rumi is still
struggling with the lyrics.
Mir and Zoe don't understand theissue.
Then the Hunter X goes afterdemons on top of a train.
Mir and Rumi have a fight.
She says, Not everything isabout Mira's insecurities.
It's like, whoa, she's taking itout on other people.
You can't do that.
They see that the Han Moon isweakening, allowing demons to

(37:30):
start spilling into the surfaceworld.
The trio perform their newsongs, take down in the middle
of their fight, but after thedemons have been vanquished,
they find that all thepassengers on the train have
been taken.

SPEAKER_03 (37:39):
What color do you think our Han Moon is?
And who's keeping it together?
America's God dang.
Red, white, and fucking blue,Jason.
These colors don't run any otherway.
Who do you think's holding itup?
You think they're workingtogether?

(38:00):
Uh I think it's Justin Bieber.
Justin Bieber.

SPEAKER_02 (38:02):
The beeps is doing it.

SPEAKER_03 (38:03):
It makes a lot of sense.

SPEAKER_02 (38:04):
Well, not anymore.
I guess it's Kendrick Lamar.
You can't do it alone.
Yeah, you can't.
Well, I guess technically thepeople that are best at diss
tracks are Kendrick Lamar andEminem, so maybe they're the
ones holding that.
Hell yeah.
Down for that.
Um, I will say in this movie, something that was a little
disappointing because we've gonethrough a few action sequences
since the first one, and theaction sequences are just okay.
They're mid.

(38:24):
It's like I don't get it.
It's like, hey, it's animation.
Well, the I I kind of wantedthem to be more brutal.
Yeah.

SPEAKER_03 (38:30):
Or they kind of just turn into whiffs of smoke.

SPEAKER_02 (38:32):
Or more like, I don't know, flashy.
I don't know.
It is just like, eh.

SPEAKER_03 (38:38):
Yeah, they're fine.
Yeah.
Nothing special.

SPEAKER_02 (38:41):
Yeah.
So Rumi meets with Jin Jin Yuagain after expressing the need
for keeping the Han Moon up andhow it will potentially rid them
of both their demonicafflictions.
The two start to acknowledgetheir feelings for one another
with the song Free.
I did like the song Free.
It was cute.
Jin Yu promises to let the Sajaboys lose at the outer words so
Huntry can keep the Han Moon up.

(39:01):
His love for Rumi keeps G Ma'svoice at bay.

SPEAKER_03 (39:05):
I do like the Saja Boys' entrance into the final
concert.
Yeah.

SPEAKER_02 (39:13):
And this is also where we learned that uh bird's
hat was actually meant for thetiger, but the bird cat's to
land.
Yeah, that bird is evil.
That was probably the that wasthe part that made me laugh the
most in the whole movie.
So when he said that line, I waslike, oh god, that's good.
But everything's looking up andit seems like everything's gonna
be fine.
But G Maw pulls Jin Yu back downsince he can get inside the

(39:37):
heads of his demons and knowsthat Jin Yu is hoping Rumi can
set him free.
G Maw then reminds Jin Yu thathe lied to Rumi about his past
and that he willingly abandonedhis mother and sister to live a
better life.
Don't think you can escape whatyou are.
You're a piece of shit.
Yeah, essentially to live abetter life.

(39:58):
He's like, get the hell out ofhere, ladies.
You go die out there while I eatmy delicious looking fucking
food and look at myself in themirror while I eat.
Hell yeah.
It's beautiful.
Yeah, it turns out he made ahorrible mistake and was a bad
person.

SPEAKER_03 (40:12):
And he didn't remember that part?
Oh no, he did.
He just didn't tell her.
Oh he wanted to be.
Well, he told her they broughtthem with her.
Yeah.

SPEAKER_02 (40:20):
But he lied.
So it'd be like, oh, don't youlike me?
Liar.
Boys be lying.
Pants on board.
We're no good.
Don't trust boys.
So before the idol awardsbegins, the lady gathered to
express that they have their ownissues, but they feel more at
ease with each other.
They realize that takedown isnot a sh song to bring together
their friends, friends, becauseit can't even bring them

(40:40):
together.
Oh yeah.
I was like, oh, yeah.
Don't diss each other.
Sing together.
Don't diss people when you couldbring love into the world.

SPEAKER_03 (40:49):
In the same famous pop group forever.
Ever.
None of us will ever bring itup.

SPEAKER_02 (40:53):
Until another pop band comes up and then we're
forgotten.

SPEAKER_03 (40:56):
No, it's not gonna be like Beyoncé.

SPEAKER_02 (40:59):
Well, it's like, what's that one K-pop band that
was super popular?

SPEAKER_03 (41:04):
BTS, maybe BTS, yeah.

SPEAKER_02 (41:05):
And it's just like, what happened to them?

SPEAKER_03 (41:08):
Uh I think once you reach 25 that they just put you
in a meat grinder.

SPEAKER_02 (41:12):
Oh, okay.
Because I will say, like, I didreally like the Boys in Love or
whatever it was called.
I can't remember.
I actually really love that songbecause they played on SNL and I
was like, oh shit.
Yeah, lots of people love thatshit.
I liked it.
But like none of those, none ofthe songs really hit like the
level of good I thought thatsong was.
So that's why I was kind ofdisappointed.
The the one K-pop song I I'veever really listened to and

(41:36):
enjoyed.
I'm like, these songs weren't asgood.
But also, maybe if they playedit in like the more native
language, I might have liked itmore because that's how the BTS
sang that shit.

SPEAKER_03 (41:45):
Even in um K-pop demon hunters, they have Korean
lyrics within the Englishlyrics.
Yeah, I've noticed that.

SPEAKER_02 (41:52):
I was like, you could have just done the whole
thing in Korean lyrics.
I probably would have enjoyedthat.
Fucking Americans, man.
I have no idea what BTS wassinging, but I enjoyed it.

SPEAKER_00 (42:04):
Yeah, okay.

SPEAKER_02 (42:06):
Um where was I?
Yeah, so they decide thatthey're gonna sing Golden.
Um, so time for the auto warts.
The Sodger boys are supposed tostart first, but they are
fighting, but they aresupposedly fighting.
So Huntryx goes to start theirperformances on stage, beginning
with Golden.
So they start the song together, then Rumi is out alone while Mir

(42:29):
and Zoe prepare to join her.
But to see what looks likedemons carrying Bobby away, uh,
but they were demons indisguise.
Shit.
While Mir and Zoe deal withthem, two of the Saja boys
disguise themselves as Mir andZoe and join Rumi on stage for
takedown to her confusion.
She's like, We weren't doingthis.
Oh yeah, they start fighting.
Yeah, and then like the demonsrip off Rumi's sleeves,

(42:49):
revealing her markings.
Mir rips off her shirt and she'sgot tassels or pasties on her
food.
Hey, this is a kids' film.
Get that nonsense out of here.

SPEAKER_03 (42:59):
Super Bowl is a kid's show.

SPEAKER_02 (43:01):
No, it's not.
I don't even know who the SuperBowl's.

SPEAKER_03 (43:04):
They market beer to kids.

SPEAKER_02 (43:06):
Sure, they definitely market food.
It's insane.
Um, Mir and Zoe realize theywere tricked and run back to the
stage where they see Rumi as shereally is.
Rumi screams and breaks all thelights.
Audience is like has to beconfused at this point.
Like, it's a good show.
These why the lights explode?
I got glass in my eyes now.
This thing breaks.
Why were they ripping hersleeves?

(43:30):
Um, so yeah, the D oh it's allvery theatrical.
Yeah, very they're loving it.
It would have been a greatconcert to go to, though.
All their concerts would havebeen great.
They're insane.
Yeah, they're all great.
While Rumi tries to explainherself, Mir and Zoe feel
betrayed and don't want to hearher.
She should have just told themfrom the first from the
beginning.

(43:50):
When she yells, the red glowhappens, and Mir and Zoe put up
their weapons.
Fucking shitty ass friends, man.
I guess you lied.
You don't immediately like,we're gonna kill you.
Yeah, you do.
Like, you know what?
Actually, we will listen to youfor a second, because we knew
their whole life.
So Rumi thinks that Gin Yu setit all up, and he is forced to
tell her that he lied to her andadmits that he betrayed his

(44:12):
family for his own selfishgains.
We are demons.
All we get to do is live withour pain and misery.
It's what we deserve.
Yes.
Which is when that line said, Iwas like, hmm, well, I have
issues with that statementbecause Rumi didn't do anything
wrong.
Yeah, not really.
She's I mean, I guess it's kindof a little bit of the point, is

(44:32):
like you have your your familydemons, and like you could well,
we'll get to that whenevermaybe.

SPEAKER_03 (44:39):
Maybe she's born with it.
Maybe she's born.

SPEAKER_02 (44:40):
But it's just like, I don't know, like you can't
like look at an alcoholic and belike, ah, you're half you're
half normal and half alcoholic.
It's like, no, I don't think itworks that way.
You don't know what's going on.
Yeah.
So uh Rumi is left alone whilethe Saja boys invite fans to the
Namason Tower at midnight for aspecial live performance.

(45:03):
G-Maw power grows and he getsinside the heads of Mira, Zoe,
and Bobby to make them facetheir insecurities.
Um, Rumi goes to uh Celine nowthat her secret has been
exposed.
Even after all this time, Celinestill tries to find a way to
help Rumi cover it up and passit off as a trick from G Ma to
Mira and Zoe.
And it's like, lady, at somepoint you just gotta be like,

(45:26):
you know what?
Let me help you through this.
Yeah, she should be wiser, Ifeel like.
Right?
It's like, come on, man.
So that was another thing.
I feel like she needed to havemore roles.
She needs to pop up a few moretimes than she did throughout
the movie.
Yeah.
I'm just like, because there wasa point where I was like, I
don't, I forgot who she was.
I was like, we've seen her.
Yeah, mention her one time.

(45:46):
We've seen her beginning.
Like twice, I think the wholetime.
Yeah.
Like the very beginning.
And then she's like, maybe Icould just tell them.
They're like, no, we don't seeher anymore.
And it's like, you sure aboutthat?
You sure about that?
Sure we don't want to see moreof her.
So when Celine cannot even lookRumi in the eye, she declares
that she is glad the Han Moon isgoing to be destroyed, and she

(46:08):
embraces her demon self.
Damn, dog.

unknown (46:11):
Yeah.

SPEAKER_02 (46:11):
We're like, is she gonna be bad?
Is she gonna be good?
But we know that the movie wouldnot end like that.
So the Saja boys gather everyoneat the tower in preparation for
taking their souls.
The boys begin singing their newsong, Your Idol.
I did like this song.
Yeah, that one was good.
Yeah, I like it at thebeginning.
You gave me a heart.
Now I'm here for your soul.

SPEAKER_03 (46:30):
Yeah, and they they start off the song.
There's this progression ofthree notes that is like famous
for being in like dirges, likereally sad, like Oh, really?
The funeral songs, likebasically throughout history.
It was really neat.

SPEAKER_02 (46:45):
Well, that really makes sense because you know
it's like Jin Yu's doingsomething he doesn't really want
to do, so it's kind of a sadsong to start.
But then they're like, wait,we're capable.

SPEAKER_03 (46:54):
And how many concerts per night are these
people putting on?
They must be- I know theseconcerts must be free.
They must be very busy.

SPEAKER_02 (47:00):
All these concerts have to be free concerts.
They have to be.
Because people just get to go tothem.

SPEAKER_03 (47:05):
Nobody has jobs.
They got private planes.
They're they're charging.

SPEAKER_02 (47:09):
Yeah.
So suddenly Rummy arrives andbegins to scene what it sounds
like, which breaks Mira and Zoefrom their trances and allows
them to rejoin her.
G Ma grows enraged and tries tofight back and sends more
demons, but they get destroyed.
Yeah.
He fires a blast of energytowards Rumi.
However, Genius steps in frontof her, taking the hit and

(47:29):
telling Rumi that she has to sethim free with her she has set
him free with her love.
Oh.
No.
So touching.
So touching.
That was awesome.

SPEAKER_03 (47:38):
Yeah.
Cool boss fight.

SPEAKER_02 (47:41):
Yeah, part of me was like, could it be more than just
a giant wall with a face?
Yeah.
You know?
No.
No?
Okay.
It's a fire.
I thought it was just fire.
Yeah, I mean, yeah, it's a fi Ohfire, a wall of fire.
Yeah, a wall of fire.

unknown (47:56):
Yeah.

SPEAKER_02 (47:56):
So he gives her his restored soul, which helps
empower Rumi.
Hun trix proceeds to continuetheir song, destroy the other
four Saja boys, and Rumidelivers the final blow to G Ma,
vanquishing the Demon King backto the underworld and restoring
the Han Moon.
Yay.
They did it.
They Han Mooned it.
Following the reunion, theladies decide to take a

(48:17):
much-earned break.
Rumi finally joins Mir and Zoeat the bathhouse now that she
doesn't have to hide herselfanymore.
And ladies all tearfully expresstheir love for one another.

SPEAKER_03 (48:26):
First of all, baths are gross.
Yeah.
Uh especially baths.
Other people.

SPEAKER_02 (48:31):
Well, I assume you definitely shower if you get in
the bathhouse.

SPEAKER_03 (48:34):
So my father-in-law has a hot tub at his place.
Ooh, and uh he is an Airbnb, sopeople came over and they
spilled a bunch of beer in itand then put the lid on it.
And the apparently beer fermentsreally quickly when it's in a
hot tub.

SPEAKER_02 (48:47):
Yep.

SPEAKER_03 (48:48):
It's kind of like what it does.
Yeah, that's gross.

SPEAKER_02 (48:53):
It was all brown.
That's why you're not supposedto drink when it's a little bit
more.

SPEAKER_03 (48:55):
It's like he thought it was it was like poop, but it
was just beer.
Did he charge them?

SPEAKER_02 (49:01):
I don't know.

SPEAKER_03 (49:02):
I hope he did.
Yeah.
Because that's terrible.
Yeah.

SPEAKER_02 (49:05):
Um, yeah, hot tubs are some of the grossest things
ever, but man, they feel sogood.
I can only be in one for likefive minutes, and then I'm like,
I'm too hot.

SPEAKER_03 (49:12):
Like, I can't handle like you're not supposed to
spend a long time.

SPEAKER_02 (49:16):
I don't like boiling in water, turns out.

SPEAKER_03 (49:18):
Yeah.
Yeah.
It'll cook like if you put ababy in there, it'll cook that
baby.
Delicious.
Tender.

SPEAKER_02 (49:26):
It's my favorite meal in an Airbnb.
A cooked baby.
A cooked goose.
So after leaving the bathhouse.
After leaving the bathhouse, they see some young fans and
decide that they've had enoughof a break.
They took five minutes tothemselves.
The ladies approach the excitedfans, as others gather near
them.
Up above, Genius Bird and Tigerlook upon them with a smile.

(49:50):
The end.
Yay.
Aww.
I want more bird and tiger.
Yeah, I know.
They need just give me like a30-minute short of just
adventures of bird and tiger.
I mean, how Netflix has notalready came out with that, I
don't know.
It doesn't have to be a fullmovie, just like a little short
film.
Yeah, it could be a coolin-between film.
It's something like that I likedabout Wes Sanderson.

(50:11):
He came out with uh like threeor four short films on Netflix.
And I was like, why is not everydirector doing this?
Yeah, it's like Netflix.
This is what Netflix should bedoing.
Netflix wants content and do it.
And since every TV show theymake on there takes five years
between seasons, they might aswell just start doing short
films.
It's crazy.
So, Jason, what's the point ofthe movie?

SPEAKER_03 (50:34):
The homeopathic medicine is dangerous.

SPEAKER_02 (50:36):
Yes.
Grapefruit will not heal yourvoice.
But it's about it's about it'sabout accepting yourself for who
you are.
And that if you're in honestwith yourself and your closest
friends, then nothing can stopyou.
As long as those friends aren'tdead.
Yeah.
Even they can't stop you whenyou have your friends.

SPEAKER_03 (50:52):
We sing so hard, it scares demons away.

SPEAKER_02 (50:55):
Essentially, whatever issues you have, tell
your friends and they'll helpyou through it.

SPEAKER_03 (51:01):
With nothing.

SPEAKER_02 (51:01):
And then and then you'll you'll save the world.
It won't be as cool as thismovie, but you'll save the world
in your own your own world.

SPEAKER_03 (51:08):
Get your knife, Jesse.
I've got a problem.

SPEAKER_02 (51:11):
It's like, please tell me we're not gonna kill
somebody.
Please tell me we're not gonnakill somebody.
Yeah.
It's like we're killingsomebody.
No.
Alright, yeah.
I mean, it's pretty ba it'spretty much just child plot.
Just you know, uh child uhmorals, you know?
Sure.
Yeah.
So Jason, we're gonna move toour yeah.

(51:31):
And maybe it's just becausefirst time watching it, watching
it in the morning at like 7 a.m.
Just being like, I don't know.
I feel like if I watch this likemidday, just on a lazy day, I
probably got more enjoyment.
Probably not the best film towatch at 7 a.m.
in the morning.
No, I watch it at night.

SPEAKER_03 (51:48):
I think you smoke Yeah.

SPEAKER_02 (51:50):
Smoke cigarettes.
Yeah, yeah.
Just kidding.
Oh, that's gross.
Come on, kids, smoke yourcigarettes and watch K5 DVD
notice.
That's the point of the movie.
So, Jason, we're gonna move onto our next category: the good,
the bad, the ugly, the fine.
It's where we discuss somethinggood about the film, something
we like, something bad, something we didn't like,
something ugly ugly, which issomething that didn't age well.
The fine something that did agewell.

(52:10):
What do you got for the good?

SPEAKER_03 (52:12):
I don't know.
I just I like this type ofanimation.
Yeah.
It's it's really polished, likeand then when it's not polished
just for a moment or it'schanges a little bit, it really
like gets more cartoonish, Iguess, in a way.
Yeah, which is great.
It's it's like with the credits.

SPEAKER_02 (52:30):
Yeah.
Um, whenever it kind of likevery like it's not Japanese
because it's green, but youknow, like the very like I don't
know, the type of animation theyuse for like their faces, it's
very like classic likeJapanese-esque looking animation
or whatever.
And like uh in like they'reeating like the foods and stuff.
I really enjoyed that part,yeah.
Um, I put like fun animation andI love the voice acting.

(52:51):
The voice acting was great inthis movie.
That was had like a lot of likegood um Korean like stuff movie
stars, like Daniel Day Kim.
He's like very popular.
That was Bossy.
Uh no, that was King Jong, whois in hangover and community and
all this.
Yeah, okay.
He and he's on every game showright now as well.

(53:12):
Um, but yeah, I thought thevoice acting was really good.
Um for the Bad I put songs arepretty mid.
Sure.
Which is crazy because they'reall so popular and everybody
loves a song.
And I was like, oh no, this wasmost people's selling point, and
I thought it was just fine.

SPEAKER_03 (53:30):
Definitely has a type.
I think it was really fun to uhit's a fun movie to watch with
my kids.
Uh that would be my another goodfor me.
And then we love we likewatching it together.

SPEAKER_01 (53:40):
We sing the songs together, so it's kind of you
know, fun movie to watchtogether.
Yeah.
As far as bad, it's okay if youdon't have any.

SPEAKER_02 (53:53):
No, there's definitely something It's fine
that I'm the one that's morenegative about a movie for once
than you.
No, it's yeah, I I can't reallythink of anything bath.
Bath, yeah.
Jason hates bath, that's why hestinks all the time.
Shower.
Shower once in a while, youknow.
Yeah.
Uh what's the ugly for you?

SPEAKER_01 (54:12):
Something that didn't age well.
Maybe the well I guess part ofmy bad could be also the ugly,
like some of the action scenes.
Yeah.

SPEAKER_03 (54:29):
It just could have been better.
It just could have been b I knowit's a kid's movie and it can't
be like blood and gore andstuff.

SPEAKER_02 (54:36):
Yeah.
Definitely definitely not that.
But I do agree that they couldthey could have been just more
better.
I don't know.
I don't know.
It seemed like they definitely, the people that made this movie,
had more of a sense of thebetween the the more the singing
and the wasn't action focused.
Yeah, and you could tell like itjust didn't feel like they had

(54:56):
as much love for the action asthey did for, you know, when
they're all singing and all thea transitions and stuff like
that and the story, you couldtell they felt loved that more
than they liked the I feel likefighting.
I don't know.

SPEAKER_03 (55:08):
And that's what got me is like I was really building
up to these fighting scenes, andthen when they happened, it's
kind of a letdown.

SPEAKER_02 (55:14):
Yeah, yeah.
Um, for my ugly, I put didn'tmake me cry.
And for an animated movie, usually that ups the antsy is
when they make me cry, and I'mlike, shit, that's a good movie.
It's just too happy.
It's too much happiness for me.
It just like it just didn'tbuild maybe if like there was
this a more emotional scenebetween the three friends coming
together, because I felt like itwas it never really seemed like

(55:36):
they were that close friendship.
Yeah, and I think that was kindof a like an issue with the
film.

SPEAKER_03 (55:40):
Maybe maybe that's a normal thing with K-pop groups
or just music groups in general, maybe kind of working together.
But they're not super friends.
Super best friends.
Yeah.

SPEAKER_02 (55:50):
It just seemed like maybe if the other two girls had
more invested in the story, butI get that it's about one person
dealing with her trauma andstuff instead of all three of
them dealing with it together.

SPEAKER_03 (56:03):
Yeah.

SPEAKER_02 (56:03):
And I guess I kind of wanted, since it's called
they're called Huntryx and K-popdemon hunters with an S.

SPEAKER_03 (56:08):
That is just you don't know shit about the other
two.

SPEAKER_02 (56:11):
Yeah, other than like a couple one-liners here
and there.
That's all you learn about them.
Yeah, the one was a black sheepand the other one is uh just a
people person just wants to makeeverybody happy.
And which I think that wasprobably some of the ugly that
didn't really work out.
But I guess it's more than bad.
Yeah, yeah.
Yeah.
Anything ugly I could say.
Um Well, we can move to thefine.

(56:33):
Um it's great.
Kids it's a good kids movie witha good message.
Also had something else.
Yeah.
And you know what?
Kids need something better thancoconut, you know?
Oh my god.
Yes.
Good point.
Yeah.
You got anything that aged wellfor you?
I feel like you could put like awatching with your kids.

(56:53):
Yeah.
It's always gonna age well foryou.

SPEAKER_03 (56:55):
Any any movie that can keep our attention.

SPEAKER_02 (56:59):
Any kids, any any movie that can seal kids down
and shut them up.

SPEAKER_03 (57:04):
No, it's just uh it creates cool moments.

SPEAKER_02 (57:08):
Yeah, yeah, for sure.
Especially like if you're likeyour youngest really likes it,
that's gotta be very cute.
Yeah, it's adorable.
All right, Jason.
So now we're gonna move to ournext category, double feature.
So what what movie do yourecommend to go alongside of
this movie?

SPEAKER_03 (57:22):
Well, I was since I was missing it with all the
brutality, I would say uhberserk.
Berserk.
But if there's also um one of myfavorite animes is on Netflix.
I don't know if you can call itan anime really, but it's
Castlevania.
It's a series.
It's not really an anime, it'sbeen told.

SPEAKER_02 (57:42):
I've been told to watch that by many of people.

SPEAKER_03 (57:44):
It's I refuse.
It rules, it rules.

SPEAKER_02 (57:47):
Yeah, yeah.
I've heard a lot of really goodthings about it.
Don't they have like two orthree seasons?

SPEAKER_03 (57:51):
Yeah, there's three.
Three at least.

SPEAKER_02 (57:53):
Yeah.
Um, I chose the movie TheMitchells versus Machines, which
is something I recommendedearlier.
It did all the things that K-popDean Hunter did not do for me.

SPEAKER_03 (58:01):
It made you cry.
Yeah.
It was so good when the mom islike being beast mode.
Yeah.
It's so fun.
She's so incredible.

SPEAKER_02 (58:10):
Very similar animation because it was made by
the Sony animation.
Um, it's also, I think, producedby the people that did uh
Spider-Man Lego movie, Spider,uh Spider-Man into the
Spider-Verse.
Oh, I think it's a good idea.
Those people, yeah.
So, and they also, those sameproducers directed uh 21 Drump
Street and 22 Drump Street.

(58:30):
So yeah.
They pretty much have beennailing every movie they did.
And maybe one day we'll get thetrilogy of Into the
Spider-Verse.
But who knows?
Because, you know, everything'sjust gotta take fucking forever
now just to come out.

SPEAKER_03 (58:43):
Spider Pig, come back to us.

SPEAKER_02 (58:45):
But yeah, if you haven't seen the Mitchell's
versus machines, it's a greatmovie.
I did exactly what I said Ishould have done with K-pop
demon hunters.
I watched it on a lazy day inthe middle of the day, and I
cried alone on the couch.
But it also has like MayaRudolph and Danny McBride, two
people I love a lot.
Livia Coleman's in it, and EricAndre.
Fred Armiston, John Legend,Blake Ruffin, Conan O'Brien,

(59:07):
Doug the Pug.
Hell yeah.
Everybody's in it.
And that dog is so funny.
I know, it's so good.
I it's like pubs.
Pugs shouldn't exist because itsucks for them just to live, but
damn, are they cute and ugly atthe same time?
And they're always hilarious inmovies.
My cat does the same thing withher eyes.

SPEAKER_03 (59:25):
Yeah.
Yeah.
So looking at two things atonce.
It's sucked.
I love wonky-eyed animals.

SPEAKER_02 (59:31):
All right, Jason, that concludes our podcast on
K-pop demon hunters.
I hope you did not listen tothis hoping to hear us go
absolutely batshit over itbecause I'm sorry about that.
I was just like, you know, isthis a thing?
Like you've been talking aboutit.
It's like we have to do it forthe podcast, and you know, we

(59:51):
took a risk, and this is therisk.
I liked it more than you did.
Yeah.
And so it's just nice that Ifinally got to feel.
That the same thing that youfeel about.
How does it feel about this,Jesse?
It feels good.
Clip clop, clip clock.
So uh K-pop Dean Hunters orPoint Break.

SPEAKER_03 (01:00:14):
As for what?
Like my Which movie do you likebetter?
I like K-pop Demon Huntersbetter than Point Hunters.
This fucking guy's gotta get outof my podcast.
Although point break is funny ashell.

SPEAKER_02 (01:00:23):
Get them.

SPEAKER_03 (01:00:24):
K-pop Dean Hunters or Blowout.
It's got its moments.
Oh, K-pop demon hunters.
Snake get them.
I've already watched this movielike 20 times.
Demons, get them.

SPEAKER_02 (01:00:35):
Damn.
You put a Eminem and KendrickLamar put up their lawn moon.
Fuck.
But hey, you know what?
If you were just like, Jesse, wish you went a little more
crazy on this movie.
Don't worry, because next weekI'm gonna go batshit.
Because it's one of my favoritecomedies that come out in the
past 10 years.
Game night baby, starring JasonBateman and Rachel McAdams.

(01:00:57):
Group of friends who meetregularly for game nights find
themselves entangled in a reallife mystery when the shady
brother of one of them issingingly kidnapped by
gangsters.
Hell yeah.
That's so awesome.
It's so fun.
It's great.
It's just like um this crazyevent happens.
They all think it's part of agame.
And so they're like going out onthe streets doing a mystery, but
it's like, oh no, is this realor is this a game?

(01:01:21):
And it's so fun.
Uh Jason Bateman's in it, RachelMcAdams.
Um, you have Kyle Chandler,Sharon Hogan, Lamorne Morris,
who is in um he's uh Winnie theBish and You Girl, he's in it.
Jesse Plemons with um yeah, oneof the greatest performances in
a movie you'll ever see as anawkward neighbor.

(01:01:43):
Can't wait.
So good.
You're gonna love this movie.
And then Dexter himself, MichaelC.
Hall's in it.
Nice.
Yeah.
It's a great, fantastic comedy.
I can't wait.
I love Jason Bateman.
It's just like Rachel McAdams.
It's like this is one of thelast ones that came to theaters
because and because it didn't dovery well because nobody watches
comedies anymore.

(01:02:08):
Uh I don't think the wholeworld's mad about it since
they're always like number onein Spotify, but uh I'm a bit
upset about it.

SPEAKER_03 (01:02:14):
Some of us are a little bit raw.
Yeah.
Give us a chance.

SPEAKER_02 (01:02:17):
Yeah, Jason Bateman, put us on your podcast and let
us advertise our podcast.
No, I'll just be starstruck thewhole time.
I wouldn't.
I'd be like, you think you couldbe sarcastic?
I can be sarcastic too.
I'd be so but then I'd be like,oh shit, we got we got Will
Arnett here.
Sean Hayes.
Like, I'd actually struggle alot.

(01:02:41):
The best voice in the bus, WillArnett.
So that is our conclusion ofK-pop Demon Hunters.
Make sure you join us next weekfor game night.
Um, please leave us a review.
Leave us some comments.
You know, follow us, subscribeus, do all the things that you
know this world makes us say atthe end of podcasts so that we

(01:03:01):
can become popular and get insomebody's algorithm so that we
can be shared.
Because you know what?
That's how this world works,apparently.
Ask the K-pop demon hunters.

SPEAKER_03 (01:03:09):
Can I have some more?

SPEAKER_02 (01:03:10):
I want to be like, that's what the demons are, and
I'm the K-poper that's gonnadestroy all the needless things
we have to do in life.
Um yeah, so do all that and youknow, tell a friend about us.
All right, just be like, yo,these guys didn't like K-pop
demon hunters, but they likethey like other movies.
You know, well, we didn't notlike it.
