Speaker 1 (00:01):
Hello and welcome to
the we Recommend Podcast, a
movie podcast where every weekwe recommend a movie for you to
watch and then come back hereand listen to us discuss.
I'm Jesse and I'm Jason.
What are you going to do?
What I do best, I'm going tokill them.
Anyone that was involved, anybody who profited from it,
anybody who opens their eyes atme, kill them all Because this
(00:23):
week we recommend man on fire.
So this was my first timewatching it.
Hell yeah, thank you, jason, for telling us that we should
watch it because this movie goes.
I know it's so entertaining, Ilove it.
(00:44):
It's like the first time Iwatched a nearly three hour long
movie and been like, yeah, Ididn't want them to cut anything
, and I'm Mr, cut your moviedown as short as possible.
Speaker 2 (00:53):
I know it moves, so
it just has a great pace yeah.
Speaker 1 (00:57):
I remember so, right
before she gets kidnapped, I
paused it and I was like man, Ibet that was only like 20, 30
minutes and I was like that waslike an hour of the movie.
I was like no wonder, likecause.
I was like so happy and I waslike, oh, nothing bad's going to
happen.
Speaker 2 (01:11):
Yeah, like with
Dakota Fanning is is such a
sweet, like their relationship, their relationship, uh, building
is you love watching Denzel.
Speaker 1 (01:22):
Whatever Denzel's
doing, I'm watching it.
Speaker 2 (01:25):
It's like I was, you
know.
I was thinking it's kind oflike don't feed your mogwai
after night.
Don't let Creasy fall in lovewith anyone, yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:33):
Cause they're gone,
they have no shot and lots of
people are going to die.
So I was like Lisa isdefinitely going to end up dying
at some point.
Cause they point?
Because they obviously want tohave sex.
Speaker 2 (01:42):
Interesting fact.
Speaker 1 (01:43):
There's two sex
scenes in this movie that were
cut.
Oh wow, lisa and her husbandand Lisa and Indel, really, yeah
, I mean like the scene when shegoes in to talk to yeah, after
he has he tells Well, he's likedoing tutoring the daughter in
the bedroom and then she comesin and I'm like, dude, she's
(02:06):
horny bro, she's wearing like acrazy outfit.
Speaker 2 (02:10):
She loves when people
protect her daughter.
Yeah, she loves it.
Speaker 1 (02:13):
Yes, let's actually
talk about Lisa, who is played
by.
What's her name?
What's her name?
Radha Mitchell?
What was her accent?
Was she British or Southern?
I think she was Southern.
That British accent came outquite often.
I have no idea if she's British, but it almost sounded British
a couple of times.
I don't know.
(02:34):
Every time she talked I waslike dude, like I don't know,
like just be normal.
Just be a normal like, whatevervoice you do, just do that one,
just pick one and go with it.
Yeah, it's like, if you're like, she didn't have to be American
, she could have just beenBritish in this, or something.
Speaker 2 (02:48):
Yeah, she literally
could have been anything, but
she's like I got to do it all.
Speaker 1 (02:52):
But her husband's
like in the automotive business
and like they have to go to likeMichigan and stuff, and I was
like well does make her soundnorthern.
I feel like it's an easieraccent for this lady, maybe Not
working the Southern accent forsure.
That was probably actually theonly part of the movie I was
like what are we doing with her?
Speaker 2 (03:10):
No, mine with her was
whenever Creasy, or is it
Creasy, creasy?
Speaker 1 (03:15):
Creasy.
Speaker 2 (03:16):
Whenever he shows up
to meet her for the first time
and it's like their secondbodyguard that they've had, and
then she doesn't really ask himany questions about his life.
Speaker 1 (03:26):
Yeah, no, they go
right past that one.
Speaker 2 (03:29):
She's like you're an
American Good enough, yeah.
Speaker 1 (03:32):
And then like pours
him a drink and he's like do you
want a drink?
And then he drinks it in onegulp.
I'm like, hey, that means he'san alcoholic by the way because
people usually don't drinkwhiskey.
A full glass of whiskey in onegulp.
Speaker 2 (03:43):
Whiskey and water, oh
is that what it was To be fair.
Speaker 1 (03:47):
Oh okay, but yeah,
like I can't believe how like
effective this movie is, becauseit's smart that it spends like
the first 40 to an hour buildingthe relationship right.
You learn the characters, youbuild the relationship.
You feel like the husband's alittle sketchy.
The mother just seems like la,la, la, la, la.
And you feel like the husband'sa little sketchy.
The mother just seems like la,la, la, la, la, and then even
like watching them swim and thenall of a sudden all the like
(04:09):
help around the house.
They're all there with themcheering and I'm like let's go.
And then you take her to theswimming pool and the nun
teacher lady's like you're afather now and I'm like God,
dang it.
And then they you know, it'slike Denzel Dakota Fanning,
(04:31):
christopher Walken and his wifethey're all just like having a
good time at the table.
And she gives him the necklace.
Speaker 2 (04:37):
And I'm like no, no,
it's over.
Speaker 1 (04:40):
Now, this is the best
, like most happiest point
you'll be during this movie.
There's no way.
It's like you know the nextscene is going to suck.
It's the same like withromantic comedies, where you're
like everything's perfect andhappy, I love it.
It's like crap.
It's a romantic comedy, they'regoing to break up and it's
going to be bad and I'm going tofeel bad for 10 to 20 minutes.
(05:01):
But with a movie like this, youget the point where oh, now we
get like an hour of revenge.
And just seeing him be awesome.
Speaker 2 (05:13):
What was your
favorite death?
Because mine was the butt thing, the butt grenade.
Speaker 1 (05:20):
Is there any other
death in the movie?
Speaker 2 (05:23):
Yeah, a couple.
Speaker 1 (05:24):
It's the only death
that matters.
I was like I thought it wasgoing to be one of those things
where he is just going to letthe timer go out and then shoots
him or backs his car out ontothe freeway and it falls on him.
Oh yeah, but I thought thewhole timer thing was just going
to be like a decoy.
And then he walks off and it'sthe fire.
It's a really cool shot thathe's walking away from the
(05:46):
explosion, but then I'm like youjust sit there and think about
it.
It's like he put a bomb up thatdude's butt.
If it wasn't just in, like the,the trunk of the car, which I
feel like was probably what itactually was yeah, because you
could tell.
Speaker 2 (06:02):
Like, looking at the
explosion, it looked like it
started in the carpet, whateverit doesn't or it's like.
Speaker 1 (06:07):
When did you put that
in his butt, dude?
I'm way up there, it's like, but I guess if he did put it up
his butt he'd know, because he'dbe uncomfortable and his butt
would probably hurt yeah, alittle bit.
Speaker 2 (06:18):
I just feel like I
gotta think he lubed it, but he
probably had to.
Speaker 1 (06:22):
I don't think he did,
because you know he's not like
doing this for fun.
Speaker 2 (06:27):
No, I feel like that
would just make it easy his job
easier.
Yeah, that's true, I feel.
Speaker 1 (06:31):
I don't know, just
cuts to him putting some
Vaseline on top of the car.
That would have been prettygood, oh gosh.
So Christopher Walken, I didnot expect him to show up in
this movie and he just like hey,I'm just like the fun best
friend.
Yeah, some cool, cool littlefact about him.
He took this role.
He was actually supposed to bethe main bad guy but he was like
(06:53):
no, let me be his friend, because I'm tired of playing bad
guys, because he's been playinga bad guy for a while at this
point.
Speaker 2 (06:58):
Ok, I thought he was
really cool because he was just
like he just seemed like a greatbuddy Fun guy.
Yeah, yeah, he cared about hisfriend.
Speaker 1 (07:09):
You know, try to make
him laugh, try to make it
Helped him get a bunch ofweapons.
Yeah, it's great.
Oh, dude, the lock and loads.
Yeah, it's just because he justhad a conversation with Lisa
and he's like just kill them all.
And then he's like just killthem all.
And then he's like OK.
Then he goes and you see RPGsand stuff and it's like let's go
.
Speaker 2 (07:26):
And you see the
charger, the butt plug thing.
Yeah, like what's that going tobe?
Yeah, I did not know what that?
Speaker 1 (07:33):
I didn't even like
grasp what that could have been
used for.
And I'm like, ok, but I saw, like the RPGs and I he's going
to find a way to use this inthis movie.
And then I'm like, oh, there'sno way he's going to use it
around a bunch of birds and somepoor old people Like dang, you
did all those things.
No amazing, though, dakotaFanning.
Speaker 2 (07:56):
I mean precious.
Yeah, she's adorable and shejust yeah, she kills it.
Speaker 1 (08:01):
Yeah, she's kind of
great in everything that she's a
little kid in.
We've done Signs this.
Oh wait, no, she's not in Signs, it's Contaminated.
It's the Little Miss Sunshine.
Yeah that's that girl that wasin Signs.
But we've done War of theWorlds and man on Fire with
Dakota Fanning now.
She's great in both she's kindof the best actor in both of
(08:22):
them.
Speaker 2 (08:22):
Yeah, she's amazing
and she's also done a lot of
really great voice acting forStudio Ghibli movies.
Speaker 1 (08:27):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I
remember.
I can't remember which one'soff the top of my head, but yeah
, I can't either.
Speaker 2 (08:32):
I didn't remember
looking at it.
I was like dang Dakota Fanning.
Speaker 1 (08:34):
I'm running here, but
yeah, she's great.
Speaker 2 (08:45):
She little grown-up
kid, yeah, she's like.
She's always kind of like smartlike a like smarter than a
normal snot-nosed little brat.
Speaker 1 (08:47):
Like she's never the
brat, she's always like the
smart witty and it's like thescene when she they're kind of
first together in the car she'staking, he's taking her to
school, and then she's liketrying to talk to him, but he's
like, look, I'm not your friend,and he's like, don't cry, it's
like I'm not, and then just getsout and gets in the back seat
and it's like, oh, she's playedthat so well.
Ok, let's see, let's hop intosome factoids.
(09:12):
I don't know how I was going tosay it.
So most of the scenes betweenDenzel and Christopher Walken
were completely improvised bythem.
Oh, cool, yeah, so uh, the atthe dinner scene, you know, like
the kiss, the wife thing, likethat was improvised, and stuff
like that, apparently, yeah, um,and to bring it to quentin
tarantino, a little bit, um,especially since there's
(09:32):
christopher walken, quentintarantino a little, you know
they're in a movie together yeah, um, writer brian helgeland I
don't know how you say thatfirst saw them original man on
fire, because this was a had joepesci the original when he was
renting videos in the late 80she walked into the video store
where quentin tarantino wasworking and asked what was good?
(09:52):
tarantino recommended man onfire and he's a huge fan of tony
scott, like I know.
The movie unstoppable that wedid that was directed by tony
scott.
Um, because of quentinTarantino on a podcast.
Nice, it's like it all comestogether.
Yeah, so what do you think?
You could definitely tell it'sthe same director, right?
Unstoppable man on fire.
Speaker 2 (10:15):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (10:15):
I think so Because
there's a lot of the cutting,
the fucking insane editing.
Speaker 2 (10:19):
Yeah, the editing.
Speaker 1 (10:20):
That's what I meant.
It takes a minute to get usedto, just like it did in
Unstoppable.
I'm like, oh, we're doing thisagain.
You get a little dizzysometimes.
Dude, you could just film ascene.
This is such a 2000s thing.
It's so annoying.
Speaker 2 (10:34):
I did kind of like
how, just every once in a while,
they would put up the keywordsup on the screen.
They just kind of disappear ina weird way.
Speaker 1 (10:42):
Whenever they do the
time thing with the five minutes
and it's popping up on screen.
You just see it ticking.
That was pretty cool, but justlike the flash and the constant,
like editing the same scene 50times, like dude, you can just
show me the movie what do you, what do you think about the the
music.
Speaker 2 (11:00):
Is this the same
music from gladiator?
Speaker 1 (11:03):
no, I don't know it
wasn't I mean, it sounded
exactly like it he used the sameproduction, it's, you know,
ridley scott's production helpedhim with this.
So, oh man, when the fuckingkicks in and he's locking,
loading.
Speaker 2 (11:17):
I'm like I was like I
gotta remember to take notes
but like the, the parts wherethe music is like just the, the
vocal there's a part thatreminded me of his whenever he
rubs his hand through the wheatyes, gladiator there's.
Speaker 1 (11:30):
There's a cue where I
was like man, I was like where
did I hear that from?
And now that you mentionedgladiator, it sounds like the
same ass song.
Speaker 2 (11:37):
Yeah, but it's, it's
so.
It's such like a primal energythat that song brings.
Yeah, so I mean it.
I wasn't mad that it was inhere, I just thought it was so
similar.
It's kind of weird.
Speaker 1 (11:48):
Yeah, no, I mean they
probably.
Oh man, I should have looked upthe composers.
Probably the same composer orsomething, I'm sure whoever
Ridley Scott knows Tony Scottknows because they're brothers.
So Denzel Washington was castbecause of a trip to a doctor.
He ran into director Tony Scottin the waiting room of a
medical office and the twostarted chatting.
Scott had not seen Washingtonin person since they worked
(12:11):
together on Crimson Tide.
We're going to do thateventually.
Yeah, scott happened to seeDakota Fanning in I Am Sam the
night before and seeing him madeScott think of using them
together.
Speaker 2 (12:21):
They're all saying
the same pediatrician.
Speaker 1 (12:23):
Yeah, well, there is
a in la there, there's an actor
doctor, there's like a celebritydoctor.
Oh nice, yeah, like I wheneverI listen to, uh, the workaholics
podcast yeah, that they do.
They all have like the samedoctor and they're like, oh yeah
, we run into all thesecelebrities all the time just
going to the doctor becausethey're all just waiting in the
middle.
Speaker 2 (12:40):
That's great, yeah do
you think that Denzel was there
to get something removed fromhis buttocks?
Speaker 1 (12:45):
Yeah, it's like Tony
Scott's.
Like I'm going to use it.
I have an idea.
So Denzel Washington complainedof feeling bored with acting
and thought about maybe notdoing it so much anymore before
taking on the role as Creasy.
I don't know what made himabout this role, like for Denzel
(13:07):
, like maybe it was just like avery fun, like oh, I actually
get to have raw emotions in amovie and also get to kick ass
in a movie, maybe it was like oh, I don't really get to do both
of those like that, like beingsad and like loving, longing for
a daughter or whatever, ormaybe he just saw that sweet
outfit he was going to get towear at the rave scene.
(13:30):
Yeah, dude, like what it's sogood.
I'm not saying his like giantsuit was any better, though I
was like dang dude, get thisfitted a little bit.
But hey, a man on fire has notime, hell.
No, so Mexico City, right.
Originally this film wassupposed to be.
They want, the producers wantedthis film to take place in
(13:51):
Italy, but Italy kind of cleanedup their kidnapping problem and
I was thinking about this Doyou think Mexico City this was
real?
Like they actually had akidnapping problem and they're
like no, we have to film inMexico City had a kidnapping
problem and they're like, no, wehave to film in mexico city.
And of course you know mexicocity actually was was grateful
that they did, because theywanted more like spotlight shine
(14:11):
on the fact that hey, peoplegetting snatched out here, man,
oh, so they were happy about it.
I was thinking that maybe yeah, that's why at the very end it
has like thank you to uh likeauthorities in mexico city.
Oh, I didn't see that helping.
It's a wonderful city.
It is a beautiful city.
You haven't shown us anythingin this movie that makes me want
to visit there, that's for sure.
Speaker 2 (14:33):
My sister when she
lived in Mexico with my mom for
a short time, the guy she wasdating, his dad, got kidnapped.
Really yeah, whoa, and he endedup escaping, because it was him
and three other dudes in thiscabin, out in the middle of
nowhere, yeah, and they ended upgetting free of their you know,
their bindings and they escapedJesus Christ dude, it's fucking
(14:56):
scary.
Speaker 1 (14:58):
So, like Radha
Mitchell had three bodyguards
protecting her when she was inMexico for filming.
She said that they were hiredafter her driver was carjacked
and then Mexico City Police toldTony Scott that his crew was
targeted for kidnapping.
Several crew members wererobbed at gunpoint.
Yeah, and Denzel had Crap.
(15:18):
Where is it at?
Where is it at?
Denzel kept a low profile inMexico.
He was surrounded by bodyguardsall times I got robbed in
Mexico.
Speaker 2 (15:28):
Yeah, I did In Puerto
Vallarta Really.
Oh yeah, I remember you tellingme about that.
Yeah, I bought some drugs, didsome drugs, got robbed and gave
them the drugs back.
Then they offered to call me acab and I was like you know what
guys, I got this one.
You know what I want you'all tosave y'all's money.
Speaker 1 (15:44):
Maybe don't do this
to anybody else.
While you're here, I'll takethe L.
Everybody else gets free, let'ssee.
So we're going to talk aboutone last, actually two more
facts.
In the original film ending, creasy does not die.
In the car on the way to thevoices house, the two meet and
(16:06):
chat for a while about the priceof human life.
Creasy continues continually, looks down at his watch.
When the timer reaches zero, creasy smiles and the entire
house explodes.
Yeah, hell, yeah.
This implies that creasy used arectal bomb that he used on uh,
fuentes, is that is that howyou say?
Yeah, yeah, I don't know.
Earlier in the film, tony Scottcut the scene because he felt
(16:27):
that it did not fit in with thetone of the film, because then
you have to think damn.
So for a minute.
There he had to sit and put abone, something up his butt, and
it's just like that would havebeen kind of a rat him walking
across the bridge like yeah, waddling yeah, but this gives
him um the ending we get, giveshim like the kind of like the
hero ending, yeah, like thewounded warrior.
Speaker 2 (16:50):
I was kind of
expecting, even though I've seen
it before.
Speaker 1 (16:53):
I was like really
hoping that the the car he was
in would explode at least killedthe brother and everybody yeah
that'd been great, but then theyprobably would have gone after
well, no let's be real, theending we got, whereas cuts to
like oh uh, Creasy died, blank, blank, blank, and then it just
cuts to a quick shot of Danielgetting shot and it's like what?
All right, you know, actuallygive me five more minutes of
(17:15):
this movie so I can see it playout?
Um, all right.
One last thing.
In his commentary for thetaking of Pelham one, two, three
, screenwriter Brian Hague heldgland recounted the filming of a
mortal wounded creasy floatingin the pool.
It was shot at the 1968 Olympicpool in Mexico city.
The filming day was very long, with direct director Tony Scott
(17:36):
filming the scene from differentangles and using different
filming techniques to get thedesired effect.
Eventually Denzel expressed howtired he was and Tony asked for
one more take.
As in Zell was floatingunderwater, Tony stripped naked
and, as he called, cut, divedinto the pool next to Denzel as
he surfaced, much to Denzel andthe cruise amusement.
Speaker 2 (17:56):
I got to say whoever
let um a man with a bunch of
bullet wounds into the poolshould be fired.
Yeah, right, because ithappened twice.
Speaker 1 (18:07):
Yeah, they're like oh
, you're back, yeah yeah, I'm
just gonna keep swimming in lLisa's pool.
Those shots were great, though, where it's like him
contemplating and then it's like, oh, you see him.
And then she shows upunderwater too and like a
dissolve and it's like, oh yeah,it's cool.
It's a cool visual way to himthinking like man, this was a
(18:29):
great moment.
Wish I didn't fuck it up andshe's not dead, just thought it
was very good.
All right, man, let's go baby.
So the plot of the film.
Here we go.
This is the part where wediscuss the plot of the film, if
you're new here.
So there is one kidnappingevery 60 minutes in Latin
(18:49):
America and 70% of the victimsdo not survive.
Holy shit, that's quite a few.
I will never go now.
I'm just never going.
I'm staying in my house for therest of my life.
Never think about gettingkidnapped.
Out of all crimes, I neverthink like I'm going to get
kidnapped for ransom.
Why would you kidnap me forransom?
We have no money.
(19:10):
Yeah that's the only.
Speaker 2 (19:11):
Thing you got to have
.
Speaker 1 (19:12):
That's why I'm safe.
We want his ps5.
Oh man, it's rough.
We get the wild choppy scene ofsomeone getting kidnapped and
the whole process takes, takesplace of like him getting
kidnapped, ransom, blow,everything.
We're about to see what happenshere, except they cut his ear
off.
Yeah, that's rough stuff.
It's like hey, take like atoenail or something you know me
(19:34):
like pulling it off with pliers.
Well, I'd rather have my ear, oh, or I don't know.
Take like just shave my hairand be like here's his hair, say
okay, or just let me talk tohim, I don't know.
So, former CIA, sad and SOGofficer whatever all those is
(19:57):
John W Creasy, played by Denzel, comes to mexico to visit his
old friend paul rayburn, playedby christopher walken, who runs
a security firm in mexico.
Um, he like he's at like thisparty right, and I get there's
like I don't know.
Um, his wife kind of walks.
It walks by and christopherwalks and is like obey me and I
will love you.
And and he's like is that howit works?
That's how it works here.
I was like oh, okay, cool.
(20:19):
Creasy asks if God will forgivethem for what they have done
and it's like what have theydone?
We'll find out soon yeah.
Pretty rad stuff on TV, though.
We meet Jordan and Samuel.
Jordan, samuel's likekidnapping his attorney, and
(20:40):
they're talking about hisdaughter, Lupita Ramos, but they
call her Peta, played by DakotaFaming.
Jordan is played by MickeyRourke oh really, apparently
Mickey Rourke and Denzel did notget along on set, so says
everybody that ever worked withMickey Rourke.
So I think he was in hisdrug-fueled days at this point,
(21:02):
or maybe he just came out of it,I can't remember.
He got all that plastic surgeryhe got a big old face and
everything.
Speaker 2 (21:10):
I'd like a face
enhancement.
Yeah, enlargement.
Speaker 1 (21:14):
I mean, if you look
at old pictures of him, it's
like what the hell happened here.
I guess maybe they shrugged you, so I don't know.
But so they're talking aboutthe fact that PETA requires a
bodyguard for her kidnappinginsurance policy to take effect.
Speaker 2 (21:28):
Damn, that's crazy,
that that's such a thing that
you have to have Kidnappinginsurance.
Speaker 1 (21:32):
If it happens every
hour.
Yeah, I mean geez Rayburn.
Back to Rayburn and Creasy.
Rayburn convinces him to take abodyguard position and he is
offered one by Samuel Ramos, mexico City automaker.
But at first Creasy is veryreluctant about it.
(21:53):
He's like.
I don't know.
I was kind of thinking aboutcoming down here to see you and
kill myself, so I don't know ifI really need a job at the
moment.
You're throwing a king into myplans here, it's like well, how
about this?
They'll give you a room and it'svery, it's very dope room that
looks out on the city.
It'd be a great place to shootyourself.
Yeah, you can kill yourself inthere, the street somewhere.
And then we meet Lisa.
(22:15):
Ramos is PETA's mother.
Apparently, she has rejectedfive bodyguard candidates
already.
Samuel doesn't want tooverspend on a bodyguard and
wants Creasy hired as he comesrelatively cheap due to his
drinking problem.
Finally, alcoholism helpssomebody.
Yeah, just give him a gun.
Yeah.
And then Creasy meets Lisa andPETA.
(22:37):
Just give him a gun, yeah.
And then creasy meets lisa andpita, um, and essentially lisa's
like uh, yeah, he's american, Ilove the guy, you're hired I'm
racist, he's american I mean, Iguess at that point it's like
well, if I, if I get like amexican bodyguard, what if he's
actually working for somebody?
and then like it's gonna end upkidding kidnapped.
Speaker 2 (22:55):
I guess there's just
a little bit of information
missing from this, yeah, butit's still fine.
I feel like they probably kneweverything about him already.
Speaker 1 (23:03):
We had that like 10
page profile on yeah, but then
Peter like shows him a room, like the room he's going to stay
in.
It's the second Mickey Rourkemovie that I know that a bird, a
bird, is named Bird and ittakes place in a movie with
Mickey Rourke.
That's probably his idea, because Iron man 2 is, I want my
Boyd one of my favorite linesin all of Marvel Cinematic
(23:27):
Universe where's my Boyd?
so yeah, lisa selects Creasy.
Peeta can.
Says to Lisa it's like I cansense sadness in Creasy.
He's a big sad bear.
Samuel tells Lisa PETA wouldlove anybody she picked.
I'm like, oh yeah, becauseshe's the nicest girl ever.
Speaker 2 (23:45):
She's really sweet.
Speaker 1 (23:46):
Yeah, and then we see
Creasy planning a route for
PETA to go to school and he letsthe bird fly free.
It's a metaphor or whatever.
Yeah, because he's caged by hisalcoholism.
Oh, and then he lets it free.
And then because little, we'regonna see later that they talk,
uh, that they kind of share amoment looking across from each
(24:06):
other in the big house and thebirds chirping, and then she
comes and looks out and it'slike, um, she's like he's like
you let the bird go.
He's like, yeah, I felt like heshould have been free, annoyed
the shit out of me.
It's like, yeah, that's likeyou let the bird go.
Speaker 2 (24:16):
He's like yeah, I
felt like he should have been
free.
Speaker 1 (24:17):
He annoyed the shit
out of me.
He's like, yeah, that'sprobably better for him.
And it's like, oh, Denzel, letthe bird free.
Pete is letting him free.
Speaker 2 (24:24):
Emotionally From his
sadness and alcoholism.
Speaker 1 (24:26):
Yeah, metaphor, baby,
his so so Creasy's aloof and
keeps Peeta at a distance, eventhough she tries to talk to him.
She tells him there is fourkidnappings a day and I'm like,
well, there's one every 60minutes actually, so there's
actually 24 a day she has beenout of school for a while.
(24:48):
Yeah, he drops her off at schoolwhere he has to sign her in.
There are cops all through theschool.
He talks to a nun teacher.
They kind of talk about theBible a little bit, and then he
essentially says I'm a sheepthat got lost.
Madre, it's a metaphor.
I thought he said the Bible'snot for me or something, yeah
but then he just kind of tellsher that he's a sheep that got
(25:11):
lost.
But Peter will help him getfound.
Metaphors baby, this whole houris a metaphor, first hour.
So creasy picks up her.
Creasy picks her up from school.
Creasy man, what is the name?
Right?
I mean, yeah, I just keepwanting to say greasy or crazy,
(25:31):
and sometimes he's saying it I'mlike I have to relook up to
make sure it's not greasy.
But he picks her up from school.
She keeps trying to talk to himand learn about him.
He tells her he is being paidto be her bodyguard, not a
friend.
She gets mad and moves to thebackseat.
Speaker 2 (25:45):
I thought she was
going to take off running.
Speaker 1 (25:48):
He's like dude,
you're like getting kidnapped
today.
Speaker 2 (25:55):
And, like all, the
stress from driving in Mexico is
real as hell.
Yeah, the place is insane todrive in.
Speaker 1 (25:58):
So that is real, it's
just crazy traffic it's just
wild.
Speaker 2 (26:01):
Like stop signs are
just like a suggestion,
suggestion.
Speaker 1 (26:08):
What's like?
Any time you know in like othercountries, usually in like kind
of the Middle East, you knowyou'll watch a movie through it
and like the traffic is soinsane, it's like what are you
talking about?
How does anybody know what todo?
Everybody's just honking theirhorns while driving.
Speaker 2 (26:23):
Still, and I'm just
there's you know, and whenever
you stop at a red light, peoplejust run up to your car and they
like try to sell you stuff orlike try to wash your windows.
Speaker 1 (26:32):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (26:37):
And it's just like,
like hey, that will stress me
out.
It's very stressful, but thenthey've been.
When the light turns green, they get the hell out of the way
and you move, going along onyour business, right yeah, I
mean, I guess that's not too badI mean, it's not.
Speaker 1 (26:45):
That's not too bad,
it's just scary but just like I
think because I'm because I'm avirgo, I need everything to just
be calm and normal, because Ineed to know that I'm to make it
to one place to another placewithout being bothered.
So Lisa talks to Creasy abouthis confrontation with PETA.
Lisa is going to shadow him thenext day, essentially because
(27:05):
now PETA is uncomfortable andLisa is getting uncomfortable.
So Creasy starts drinking.
Got a wild ass editing.
I mean it's all over the place.
No idea what's going on most ofthe time.
You just see a gun gun and abullet, a lot drinking, a bunch.
Um.
So he decides to try to unalivehimself, and when he tries to
do this, the bullet in his gunmisfires, giving him a new lease
(27:26):
on life.
He calls ray, who tells himthat the bullet always tells the
truth.
Creasy keeps his bullet.
Speaker 2 (27:33):
That's interesting.
Yeah, the bullet can do that.
Yeah, hey, tells the truth,baby.
Speaker 1 (27:41):
Says it is not your
time to go.
He's just really happy hedidn't die.
I love that in action movies,Something so macho about it.
The bullet tells the truth.
But it's just being told fromChristopher Walken.
He's just kind of like hey, I'mhaving a good life here, man.
Yeah, his life seems kind ofnice, but he's like really sweet
.
He's like, oh, now is this upwatching TV, you're not
(28:02):
bothering me, and stuff likethat and it's like, ah, I don't
know.
This movie, the beginning partof this movie, just has so many
great little subtleties to likethe characters and you know,
it's like you kind of like themall and it's like great, even
like the father who soon may notbe liked.
It's like you see him and he'slike kind of sympathetic.
(28:23):
You can tell there's a lot onhis mind.
You'll learn what it is laterbut you're like man, his like
auto deal stuff must be likekind of stressful.
It's like I don't know, I justlike everybody so far.
I'm like, oh, I hope everhappens.
I really like the people whowork at the.
Uh, yeah, like the maids andstuff.
Yeah, they seem really nice, yeah, they're so great.
So while driving pita and lisanotices a um.
While driving pita and creasynotices a car following him, he
(28:47):
writes down the license platenumber and so does pita.
He like has to ask for a pencilit's like pencil and grabs it
um, and then she picks up on itso fast.
Speaker 2 (28:57):
Yeah, I mean it's
great she's, she's really
involved in her own protection.
Speaker 1 (29:01):
Yeah, smart to know.
Speaker 2 (29:02):
Smart kid.
Speaker 1 (29:04):
She's like.
Well, I feel like that's aDakota fanning thing in all our
movies.
It's like she has to alwaysplay a kid that notices
everything.
And then Creasy, who hasdecided to focus more on his job
and bonding with PETA, um,starts noticing PETA.
Uh, notices PETA is a swimmerand notices that she becomes
startled by the starter gun ather swim meets.
(29:24):
He begins to coach her.
She learns to react to thestarter gun diving into the
water without flinching.
The gunshot holds no fear.
Speaker 2 (29:33):
Such a fun scene.
The sound sets you free, yeah.
Speaker 1 (29:36):
That was great.
I just put in my notes FUN Allcaps Exclamation marks.
Speaker 2 (29:42):
Guns are fun kid yeah
.
Speaker 1 (29:44):
And then Krisa and
Peeta bond over homework and
even smiles.
It's very sweet.
They're talking aboutconcubines, which apparently was
all ad-libbed by both of theactors.
Speaker 2 (29:53):
Oh, that's cool, I'm
like that was such a random
thing to ad-lib.
Can you imagine having athousand versions of them all?
Speaker 1 (29:58):
Yeah, yeah, that was
pretty cool.
She's like holy shit, yousmiled.
Yeah, denzel's the best, thoughthere's something about like,
(30:19):
if you just start I said it inUnstoppable when he starts
smiling and laughing, there's somuch joy in my heart from it.
Yes, it's like hell, yeah, um,they continue training now with
like the maids and like thehandyman and stuff watching.
And she's ready, baby, she'sready to swim.
It's like I hate that.
Like you know, I'm kind of goingover all that so fast, but like
, literally, this is the part ofthe movie that really, I don't
know, makes you feel what youfeel later you're gonna feel
like want the need for revengeand you're just gonna like feel
the the fire in your in yourveins whenever he's gotta start
(30:43):
killing people and it's like yesit's so perfectly done at the
beginning.
Um so cut to the swim meet andpita's teacher comes up to him
and yells, tells him today he isher father and he's like me oh,
the nuns are the swim coaches Idon't know, dude I am assuming.
I'm assuming it's part of aschool event or something.
(31:04):
Catholic school that they do allthe positions it might just
yeah, maybe it's the same knownas the other one.
I'm just assuming that it'sprobably like a school function.
Yeah, so they're probably allthere, I don't know.
So the swing meet starts andshe wins.
Creasy is so happy and Peetagives him a big hug.
Speaker 2 (31:20):
Yeah, she just jumps
in his arms.
Yeah, it's like oh, they'rebest friends, They've known each
other for a week.
Now she's going to get good now, yeah so they go out.
Speaker 1 (31:28):
Well, I'm assuming
it's actually probably been like
a month or something, just kindof fast forwarded, because her
parents are out of town, yeah, twice, and he's just like her
guardian yeah, it's like they'vealready like gone out of town a
couple times.
So they go out to eat withrayburn and his wife, um pita,
gives him a necklace of saintjude, patron saint of lost
causes.
Everybody's happy and nothingbad will ever happen.
Speaker 2 (31:51):
Nope, I wonder what
else she was the saint of,
because they have a lot ofdifferent things yeah, no, we
were.
Speaker 1 (31:58):
We both listened to
the saints podcast on last
podcast on the left and it'slike holy shit.
I kind of want to learn aboutall of them probably like also
the saint of like hair yeah hairand uh queefing hey, you're
probably not wrong.
Speaker 2 (32:14):
I don't know, man.
Speaker 1 (32:15):
I'm the patron, sweet
.
So now that everything isperfect, everything is happy and
there's nothing bad going tohappen.
Later, creasy is alone in hisroom.
He decides not to drink andinstead reads the Bible.
And how does?
God show him gratitude forreading the Bible.
(32:35):
We'll find out later.
Nothing's free Greasy.
God wants him to make asacrifice and he's going to have
to.
We get a quick scene where Petaasks her father to let her swim
more and not do piano lessons, but he's adamant on her playing
the piano.
Here's what I love abouteverything, to this point.
(32:56):
Right, the father as soon asyou meet him, he's always kind
of like weird, kind of jitterytype guy.
There's obviously some sort offinancial issue.
And then he goes to Detroit thefirst time.
Whenever him and his wife leave, he turns around and gives like
a look at her.
It's like huh, it's like Iwonder what that means.
Obviously it's a kidnappingmovie.
(33:17):
He's probably, I think, at thatpoint kind of thinking wow, if
this, if like I don't find outhow to make money, I'm going to
have to get this girl kidnapped.
And they go on their secondtrip and it's like they come
back.
And then now all of a suddenhe's like no, you have to take
piano assuming the two, becausehe had already set up everything
.
Well, the two meetings I'massuming did not go well of
getting like forward to come toMexico City to help him out with
(33:38):
his automotive factory orwhatever.
So now it's like, all right, well, my two options were gone,
so now this is my backup planand it's like, well he's, she's
gonna get kidnapped at the pianolesson.
I don't know this, it's justfun to kind of like point out
like hey, this is how the moviesubtly was showing you, showed
you everything you need to knowin a very subtle way, and
(34:00):
information was there.
You just had to try to find it.
Yeah, that's really interesting.
It really helps when you haveto write everything down in your
notes.
It's kind of my favorite partof doing this podcast.
I'm like, oh, I feel like I'msmarter at movies.
Now Our audience may thinkotherwise, I don't know.
So Creasy takes her to herlesson, tells her to burp every
few minutes, so the teacherwon't take her on.
I love it.
(34:20):
It's like we see her burp.
She had to have someone burpfor her.
Oh, really, because she wasincapable of burping, apparently
as a little kid, the burpsounded very guttural it was
like way too deep for a littleDakota fanning, and then she
gives him a just a kiss of deathright there, good job, and he
(34:40):
puts it in his shirt.
So, while waiting, for and itstops the bullet.
Yeah, I thought whenever he gotshot in the chest towards the
end I was like that diary isgoing to be there and it's going
to stop the bullet.
Speaker 2 (34:52):
And it was not the
case and he just decided he
didn't need a bulletproof vest.
Speaker 1 (34:56):
Yeah, and he decided
that bullets don't hurt him
until the very end of the movie.
So while waiting for pitaoutside of her piano lesson, he
plays with the dog sam and justlets it run around and starts
attacking another dog and thisis why you need to keep your
dogs on leashes, people.
It is unsafe, no matter whatdog you think you got, dogs are
not normal humans.
(35:17):
They have their own brains andthey're cuckoo crazy because
they're not super smart dogs.
So please keep them on a leash.
Just saying that because, dude,it's because you know, I'd like
to.
You know, we've taken walkswith snake on around our area
here, like every time we try todo it, there's like a dog that's
ready to run up to us and he,like I'm like that dog looks
(35:38):
scary.
We're going back.
It's like back, I don't know.
It's annoying, it's not safe,but anyways.
Greasy notices a car with twomen circling the area and two
federal police officers blockthe street.
I'm sure this is just like aparade about to come by or
something.
As PETA emerges, he yells forher, at her to run, but she
freezes.
The car pulls up and the menattempt to grab pita, but he
(36:00):
fires the gun in the air, causing her to run away.
She's ready to go.
Speaker 2 (36:03):
She did flinch,
though she might have gotten
away until she, until he shotthe gun, and she's like, yeah,
sound set you free.
Speaker 1 (36:12):
So chrissy attempts
to fend a crazy oh god, such an
annoying name to say a lot.
He attempts to fend off theattackers, killing three and
wounding a fourth, but iscritically wounded himself.
He takes multiple bullets tohis front.
Yeah, he gets shot twice in thechest.
It doesn't hurt him that much, don't worry.
Speaker 2 (36:28):
He gets it a lot in
this movie Kind of just starts
the timer, yeah, and he's kindof in and out of the.
I was wondering about that, butwe'll get to it in a second.
Speaker 1 (36:39):
So Peter runs back to
him but is then abducted by
remaining kidnappers becausehe's like run, she's like I
can't the police arrest Creasyfor killing police officers on
duty and also for being involvedin the kidnapping of Lupita.
At the press conference, mariana, a reporter, presses the
chief of police on why the twodead officers were actually off
(37:01):
duty.
Yeah, boom, boom, boom.
And then, uh, what's his name?
Miguel, miguel, um, miguel, monmonazoo or something like that.
Monzo, sure, whatever, um islike, um, it's like we all know
that he's actually they're.
We also know that they're alsocorrupt police officers.
Yes, everybody kind of laughsthis is funny to us and like
(37:22):
it's not dude, those silly cops, somebody was kidnapped, um,
then we get shots at samuel andlisa's house of them all worried
, and police are there.
Jordan tries to sell samueleverything tries to tell samuel
everything will be all right.
Head of kidnapping says theywill help, but jordan says they
won't be needed.
But they have high authoritytelling them that they have to
(37:43):
be involved.
Samuel, and Samuel seems veryoff at this moment.
Speaker 2 (37:48):
Yeah, he doesn't seem
that worried.
Speaker 1 (37:52):
And it's great
there's so much in this one
scene, because it's LieutenantLieutenant, what's his name?
Funtess.
It's Lieutenant Funtess who islater somebody that Denzil has
to deal with.
Yeah, but so you have like twopeople that are involved with
the kidnapping on differentspectrums, because the
(38:14):
lieutenant is a part of itofficially, because you know
he's corrupt and he's a part ofthe kidnapping plot and stuff.
And then you got the other guyswho are also a part of the
kidnapping plot.
Oh God, samuel gets a call fromthe kidnappers about a ransom
drop.
Speaker 2 (38:29):
It's very convoluted
A lot to say, yeah, peta's
ransom dropped, arranged by theand why is the dad shirtless
when he takes the money?
Speaker 1 (38:36):
Oh, because they
don't want him to wear a shirt.
So there's no wires or guns oranything, because it showed it
earlier.
At the very beginning there's aguy who's just like waving a
shirt out of his car and stufflike that.
But at PETA's ransom droparranged by the federal police
Bales, when the kidnappers areambushed by rival kidnappers,
the kidnapper's leader the Voiceplayed by Robert Sosa is
(38:57):
enraged at his nephew's deathduring the botched drop.
Holding the family responsible,he informs PETA's mother, lisa,
that PETA will be lost to herand Samuel forever as
retribution.
Oh God, that sucks.
Didn't say they were going tokill him.
So, while recovering from hisinjuries, afi agent Miguel
Manzano has Creasy relocated toa veterinarian clinic to protect
(39:21):
him from the corrupt police.
When he regains consciousness, consciousness Rayburn tells
Creasy that PETA was murdered.
Damn, bum, bum bum.
He is questioned by Manzano butrefuses to divulge any
information.
But you can see it in his eyesas he's showing pictures of some
of the people, like he sees thedriver and he's like he's just
(39:42):
building his list this guy'sgonna die does rayburn get him
out of the hospital for hissafety or is like why didn't
they help his bullet wounds?
Um no, I think he's like it'stime to get out.
Speaker 2 (39:54):
It's like probably I
think it's been like a week or
so he's like I'm ready to killeveryone now.
Yeah, I can go.
Yeah, it's like it's time to go.
Speaker 1 (39:58):
Well, I think
rayburn's like all, I'm ready to
kill everyone now.
Yeah, I can go.
Yeah, it's like it's time to go.
Well, I think Rayburn's likeall right time for you to get
out of here, right?
He's like no, rayburn takes himout of the hospital and they go
to the crime scene.
He then meets reporter MarianaGarcia Guerrero.
Speaker 2 (40:15):
I thought she was
with the FBI or something, I
don't know.
Speaker 1 (40:18):
Is she?
I don't know is she not.
Speaker 2 (40:20):
No, she's a reporter.
Speaker 1 (40:21):
Yeah, she's
definitely a reporter, okay yeah
played by Rachel Tick,tickleton, tickleton, I don't
know, she's the girl in TotalRecall.
Yeah, yeah, hell yeah.
Also awesome movie we will dothis year, because I don't know
we need to do, I just want to doit.
I've been thinking about it alot and you get to see the three
boob chick yeah, three boobchick.
Dude Yay and Marina, who offersto help him investigate the
(40:46):
kidnapping and expose thecriminal and police.
Nexus Creasy uses this to wagewar on the kidnapping ring and
police corruption responsiblefor PETA's apparent death.
You could say he's a man onfire.
He's a man on fire.
So he goes back to Samuel andLisa's house.
(41:08):
Him and Lisa have an heartfeltmoment.
They look like they're going tohave sex potentially.
No, wait, not yet.
That was before.
Then Creasy says he's going tokill them.
Lisa says kill them all, killthem all.
Music kicks in.
It's like this kind of like newmetal sounding like music.
It's like Hell.
Yeah, it's really effective andit's like let's fucking go.
Creasy locks and fucking loadsbaby, because he's a man on fire
(41:33):
.
He tracks down, interrogates.
So he tracks down the first guy, the getaway driver.
He interrogates him by cuttinghis fingers off If he doesn't
answer.
It's great.
Cuts like three of them off and, like the guys, like they
constantly.
He constantly said I'm just aprofessional, I'm just a
professional, pretends hedoesn't know anything, but then
(41:53):
slowly gives off a little moreinformation.
Speaker 2 (41:55):
It was funny, though,
like because before he starts
cutting off his fingers, he,like crazy, crazy, is outside
and then it shows the guy, thedriver, sitting at the wheel and
he's naked, yeah, and he's justbeen beat to hell, yeah.
Speaker 1 (42:11):
And you see a bunch
of like stray dogs right there's
.
There's like four or five dogslike these dogs, and we eat this
.
Speaker 2 (42:18):
Well, I think they're
just like a dump or something,
but like yeah, yeah, they didn'tshow us the part where he beat
the shit out of this guy yeah,it's like a part of me and he's
bleeding a lot from.
Speaker 1 (42:28):
Somewhere yeah, um,
and essentially what he learns
is that he learns that thedriver was ordered by the voice
to do the pickup or, you know,to kidnap, and that that he got
a lot of information from theguardians which we'll see in the
next scene.
And then he just essentially oh, also I love when he cuts his
(42:48):
finger off he like puts thelighter, the cigarette lighter
on his fingers and theneventually the bleeding with
this, yeah.
Then he eventually cuts his earoff.
Speaker 2 (42:59):
And when he cuts the
first finger off, you see like a
squirt of blood on thewindshield.
Speaker 1 (43:02):
So good, that's great
and then I love like, after
that he starts like covering myhand with a towel after he does
it, um, and then, yeah, he cutsthe ear off.
Is there anything else that hedoes in that one?
Speaker 2 (43:14):
that's pretty cool I
don't know, but I'm loving every
second of it while it'shappening.
Speaker 1 (43:17):
Yeah, I know, and
know, like at first I was like,
oh, I kind of feel bad and I waslike fuck he's got to get PETA.
Speaker 2 (43:23):
What am I talking
about?
Speaker 1 (43:23):
Yeah, so it's like
fucking dog food.
Yeah, and then we cut to thecar, falling into the middle of
a baseball game and explodingbecause he killed him.
Speaker 2 (43:45):
Yeah, I thought he
was gonna.
I thought that's the way he wasgonna kill him.
Yeah, but he shoots him aftergiving him a cigarette.
Because he's not that bad of aguy, he let him have a puff of
cigarette.
Speaker 1 (43:50):
Well, even the guy, I
think the guy knew he was gonna
die.
Yeah, he's any, he um.
So he also learns that the nextperson he's going after who's
the middleman called Jersey Boy,is a proprietor of a or
whatever, which he then goes andfinds the middleman.
Speaker 2 (44:03):
I really like the
sniveling piece of shit.
He plays this character reallywell.
Speaker 1 (44:08):
Yeah, yeah, I love
when he starts talking English
and it's like, oh, I'm fromJersey too, but yeah, so he goes
to find the middleman or JerseyBoy.
Proprietor of the rave in Neza, who was known to the getaway
driver as the guardian.
Proprietor of the Raven Nezza, who was known to the getaway
driver as the Guardian Greasy, gets an ATM card from the Jersey
boy which is given to him bythe voice and is used to
(44:28):
withdraw $200 per week forexpenses.
He also reveals that a crookedcop, funtess, stole the money at
the drop.
But yeah, I love this wholescene with it, because you got
the one guy that lets him in andhe's all dressed ridiculously.
He's hiding a giant, sawed off, shotgun in his pants,
essentially, and he kills theone guy and he's like talking
(44:50):
Spanish to Jersey boy and Jersey, hey, I actually speak English,
I'm from Jersey.
Hey, you're from Jersey.
Gym 10 laundry, am I right?
Dtf.
And then there's like thisother third guardian because
they're all called guardian andthe and the credits it's, yeah,
jersey boy.
The guy he kills immediately isguardian two and guardian three
(45:11):
is the girl.
Speaker 2 (45:12):
Okay, I love how he
just he asked my question, he
doesn't know the answer, andthen he blows his fucking foot
off.
Yeah, I was like is he shootinghis foot or the floor?
I can't tell.
Speaker 1 (45:20):
I just assumed it was
his foot, and he eventually
gets him to spill all theinformation on his set and then
he kills Jersey Boy.
He talks to the woman who alsoworked with him.
She gives him false hope whenshe says the girl is still there
.
He sees that it's a differentkidnapped girl, though.
He then takes the girl and theadult girl and gets them out of
(45:41):
there after essentially catchingthe whole place on fire, and
then goes out and startsshooting his gun at this rave
and everybody's like yeah, oh,so you want us out, but we ain't
done partying.
We're going to dance our way outof here and then they go out of
the rave and they're all stillkind of dancing on the street
and it explodes and everybody'slike yeah, this is awesome.
(46:01):
It's freaking lawless out herein Mexico City it's a great
party, but now you don't haveanywhere to rave.
Yeah, it's like these people.
They'll just take XZ out on thestreet and start dancing.
Speaker 2 (46:11):
Just wait till the
fire goes down and we'll go back
in.
Speaker 1 (46:14):
So he calls Marina to
give her the kidnapped child.
Then he gives her the ATM cardhe got.
Manzano talks to Rayburn.
Rayburn tells him PETA showedCasey he was able to live again.
It makes it so sad.
But then we get the great quoteCreasy's art is death.
(46:35):
He's about to paint hismasterpiece, Christopher Walken.
I'm not going to lie.
That line gave me chills.
Speaker 2 (46:43):
A lot of people are
about toen.
I'm not going to lie, that linegave me chills.
Yeah, watching it, a lot ofpeople were about to die.
I was just like holy shit, whata good good, good, good line
Fucking Denzel covered in blood.
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (46:52):
Yeah, creasy decides
to go.
He's going after LieutenantVictor Fuentes, a lieutenant in
the anti-kidnapping division ofthe Federal Judicial Police and
the head of the criminal.
La Hermanda.
Yeah, la Hermanda, yeah LaHermanda.
Speaker 2 (47:12):
Yeah, La.
Speaker 1 (47:13):
Hermanda, I don't
know, dude, I can't fucking talk
today.
Jeez, and he's also the one thatcoordinated the drop from
earlier in the movie.
With Samuel and Lisa he goes toan old couple's house so that
he can fire an RPG at Fuentes'bodyguards.
He successfully takes care ofall of them, leaving only
(47:35):
Fuentes who drives off who hedrives off with.
That was fucking sick.
Yeah, yeah, because he shootshim and he doesn't kill all of
them, it just comes out in hislittle suit and starts shooting
everybody and like why he's injust.
This movie becomes a western atthis point.
Great, it reminds me ofsomething from the man with no
name trilogy.
Um, the clint eastwood movies.
(47:56):
Yeah, I don't know if I've seenthose.
You haven't seen any of them, Idon't know.
Holy crap, let's start doingthe trilogy oh yeah, we should
okay that starts this year.
I'm so excited.
Um uh.
Then we cut to him.
He has.
He has funtas tied to a carbent over the trunk and it's
like what the hell are we aboutto watch?
Here, like broad daylight.
There's helicopters over themyeah but, and it's like the same
(48:17):
place that the drop happenedearlier in the film.
Speaker 2 (48:20):
Oh yeah, um and and
it shows like the bags were full
of just paper magazines.
Speaker 1 (48:26):
Yeah.
So he tells him he has C4shoved up his butt and has five
minutes to tell him all theinformation, and you get the
clock on the screen.
The guy's not wanting to answerand Denzel's just like four
minutes 50 seconds.
I wish you had more time oh yes, love it.
(48:46):
So the guy's like hey, come on,man, let's chill out so from
fountas creasy learns most ofthe ransom money had been stolen
before the ambush at the drop.
That and that.
Jordan samuel's, who suggestedkidnapping insurance, loaded the
money into Samuel's dropbecause Funtas only got like two
point five million out of thepossible 10.
And he was supposed to get half.
(49:07):
Oh yeah.
Speaker 2 (49:09):
Everybody's just
getting screwed over all the way
down the chain.
Speaker 1 (49:12):
Just pretty much
everybody is trying to screw
each other over this money andit's maybe pretty funny.
So after he gets hisinformation.
Speaker 2 (49:21):
I can't imagine that
the dad ever thought that this
would work out.
Speaker 1 (49:24):
Yeah, it goes
smoothly.
It's like dude, there's toomany corrupt people in this
little city here, you live here.
Speaker 2 (49:31):
You should know this,
can't?
Speaker 1 (49:32):
walk outside without
having a bodyguard at this point
.
So after he gets hisinformation, he walks away with
this explosion behind him andit's rad and, like right before
before, like you said earlier, the guy's like I wish Denzel, I
wish you had more time and justwalks away with an explosion,
and I love it, because wheneverwe do our movie next week, I'm
(49:55):
going to be able to come back tothis little part here and
you'll, you'll, there ispotentially butt stuff.
You'll, there is potentiallybutt stuff.
Stay tuned to the end of thepodcast to see what movie we're
talking about.
Speaker 2 (50:07):
So Jordan, this has
been butt stuff with Jesse and
Jason.
Speaker 1 (50:11):
Oh, that'd be a great
like if we were both gay.
That'd be a great, that'd be agreat podcast.
So at Jordan's home, creasydiscovers that he is already
dead, his head's cut off and hisbody's in a pool, and finds a
(50:31):
fax with bank accountinformation leading to Samuel.
Samuel, you, son of a bitch.
Creasy gives the bank accountinformation to Marina, creasy
decides to confront Samuel andLisa.
Samuel explains that Jordanrecommended arranging a
kidnapping so he could claim theinsurance payout and pay the
debts his father had him hadleft him alongside a ruined auto
(50:54):
empire.
So out of seven point fivemillion stolen, jordan kept two
point five and gave five pointfive to Samuel.
Speaker 2 (51:01):
Yeah, I feel like
there's you know you could just
being poor is not that bad.
I mean, here's what I say Ihave an idea.
Speaker 1 (51:10):
How about you hire
some other person that isn't
involved with all these likecorrupt people to pretend to
kidnap your daughter and thenjust be cool about it?
Be cool about it, right, instead of going to like gangs
and stuff to do it?
The professionals, yeah, sheesh.
Um, they were promised pitawould be unharmed.
(51:33):
She's just gonna be watchingcartoons for two days.
When the drop went bad, samuelblamed jordan for pita's death,
killing him in a rage, soSamuel's the one that killed.
Speaker 2 (51:43):
Jordan, do you see
the part where they show Peeta
locked in a cell and she's gotthe headphones on and they're
just blasting hard rock or metalor something?
Speaker 1 (51:53):
in her headphones.
Speaker 2 (51:54):
Oh really I missed
that it might have been an
extended version.
I saw a long time ago.
Speaker 1 (51:58):
Oh, really it might
have been, or it could have cut
to it, for one second, and it'slike that happens a lot.
What did I say Because there's alot of PETA in this movie for
there to be almost no PETA untilthe end of the movie.
Man, I could go for a PETAright now.
I know I'm so hungry, god, mystomach's growling.
So Lisa, unaware of Samuel'sinvolvement, angrily tells
(52:19):
Creasy to kill him or she willHell yeah, Lisa.
Let's go.
He leaves Samuel a gun and thebullet he previously intended to
commit suicide with.
That he pulls out of Peeta'sdiary Remorseful Samuel, loads
the gun and shoots himself inthe head.
Speaker 2 (52:35):
I feel like, just to
be safe, he could have put like
another bullet that works inthere, just in case.
Speaker 1 (52:40):
It's like oh, by the
way, here's a spare bullet.
Speaker 2 (52:42):
If this one doesn't
work.
Okay, it didn't work for me.
Speaker 1 (52:45):
I got them mixed up.
I put them both in Peeta'sdiary.
Just got bullets everywherelike in his pockets and shit At
the end of the movie hands Peetaher diary back, she opens it up
.
Bullets are just flying out ofit.
It's like okay, crazy.
I don't I completely missedwhat happened while I was
kidnapped, but something greatbodyguard.
Speaker 2 (53:04):
Yeah, horrible,
horrible Bullets.
Speaker 1 (53:10):
So crazy learns from
Marina.
The ATM card he recoveredearlier is linked to a man
living on the edge of city Men's.
He knows people acting onMarina's information infiltrate
his home, finding a photo of thevoice, and the way they did
this was they were given what?
Cholera?
Cholera vaccinations, okay, orsomething like that, and they're
(53:32):
able to set up a a bunch ofcameras cameras in there, it's
like why didn't you do that inthe first place?
so she runs a story in thenewspaper revealing the
ringleader is Daniel Sanchez.
She tells Creasy the ATM cardbelongs to Daniel's wife, maria
Rosa Sanchez, at the address ofDaniel's brother, aurelio.
(53:53):
Yeah, so we got all theinformation.
It's time for the ending.
So Creasy breaks into Aurelio's, taking him prisoner, despite
being shot in the chest in theprocess.
He, creasy breaks intoAurelio's, taking him prisoner,
despite being shot in the chestin the process.
He learns that the voice isnamed Daniel, damn um.
He then uh, calls daniel.
He essentially.
So.
When they get there, he likehas this kid lead him up to the
(54:15):
top?
Whenever he breaks in um,because he followed aurelio from
the street, yeah, and likethere's a bunch of kids in there
and apparently daniel's wife orex-wife we'll soon learn he's
pregnant, is pregnant, andessentially she's like get out
and like the only way that theycan contact daniel is by using a
beeper.
She's like get out and like.
The only way that they cancontact Daniel is by using a
beeper.
Speaker 2 (54:33):
She's like oh, I
didn't still got him.
Speaker 1 (54:35):
Yeah, they still got
him back then and they have to
go upstairs to get signal andstuff.
So he then calls Daniel, threatening to kill his family
unless he turns himself in goingas far as shooting Aurelio's
fingers and then like after hedoes that, the wife of Daniel
goes and like in this barrel, just pulls out like a huge
plastic bag of money and justthrows it down.
Speaker 2 (54:57):
I'm like damn dude it
was so great, so your brother
wants to talk to you.
Speaker 1 (55:01):
Kaboom, yeah you hear
about that and of course they
keep.
They keep both of them keepending the phone call so that
they can't track where thephone's coming okay that makes
sense.
Creasy wants to take care ofthis himself.
Then, however, daniel revealsthat Peeta is still alive,
(55:21):
didn't?
see that twist happening andoffers to trade her for his
brother and Creasy's life Lifefor a life.
Creasy agrees.
So Creasy tells Lisa thatPeeta's alive and he tells her
where the meeting is.
So arriving at the overpassmeeting place and seeing he
(55:42):
meets Lisa there, he's likealright, here's what's gonna
happen.
I gotta go over there and Igotta walk to him.
Peeta's gonna be let out and ifthis motherfucker moves, blow
his head off talking aboutaurelio in the car.
Um so he goes, he crosses it onfoot and he's got shot in the
chest earlier and bleeding out?
Speaker 2 (55:59):
yeah, and he's
bleeding out he's been just like
.
Speaker 1 (56:01):
It's been like five
hours.
He's got a hole in his chestand he's still doing fine, very
little blood.
That we see, which is wild.
Um, he meets her in the middleof this overpass and they give
hug, they say goodbye and shesays she loves him and he says
he loves her back.
I know, and I'm just crying Iwas blown away by the fact that
I was like shit, dude, I'm soinvested in this and I'm getting
(56:27):
sad because it's yay, they'retogether.
Getting sad that Pete is goingto take this hard Because it's
like, oh, together.
Getting sad that you know likepete is gonna take this hard
because it's like, oh, I don'tget to hang out with him and
eventually she's gonna figureout he's actors, he sacrifices
himself for her.
And then getting sad that mancreasy ain't gonna get see her
again, not to be a bodyguard.
And then I'm like dang, theyactually probably could have
(56:48):
just been a family themselves, because he was probably gonna
marry lisa she's like Dang.
Speaker 2 (56:53):
They actually
probably could have just been a
family themselves, because hewas probably going to marry Lisa
.
Speaker 1 (56:57):
She's like where are
you going to do?
Speaker 2 (56:58):
He's like I'm going
home too.
Speaker 1 (56:59):
Yeah, oh, so good.
And then just seeing likeDenzel cry makes me want to cry.
It's like seeing your dad cry.
It's like yeah, he is our dad.
It's our movie dad.
Denzel's my daddy.
But Peter runs toisa and theyall hug and it's happy.
Aurelio gets to go, creasy andaurelio get into daniel's car,
but creasy succumbs to hiswounds in transit, dying like a
(57:21):
hero yeah, he's playing thegladiator music, yeah, and then
all of a sudden it cuts to like,it gives like his like
headstone, essentially like, uh,his date of birth and date of
death.
Yeah, just randomly.
And then you're like, oh,there's probably going to be a
little bit more after this.
Then it cuts to Manzano, tracksDaniel down and kills him in
just like a five second scenehere, and says that they can
(57:45):
claim that Daniel died duringthe arrest.
But you know, he just wentthere to kill him.
Nothing else.
Weird way to end the movie.
Yeah, I felt like it took allthe steam out of the engine.
Speaker 2 (57:57):
Yeah, if he would
have just stopped with him dying
, didn't need it.
Speaker 1 (58:02):
I mean, or just like
cut to the scene, or they didn't
do it as much as in like just amid credits role, right like
after you get like the maincharacters in like cut to it,
this guy just coming in and likeconfronting him and killing him
, yeah, and then it'd be likeone who raw, you know.
Speaker 2 (58:19):
Yeah, cause it
doesn't really hit the same as
like something like the at theend of the departed morning he
comes in and at the very end andkills him.
Speaker 1 (58:32):
Yeah, oh shit,
fucking good and it's like hell.
Yeah, it's angry ass.
Mark Wahlberg, who's just beenyelling at Matt Damon and
Leonardo DiCaprio the whole time.
Oh, we should do the Departedthis year too, it's another long
movie.
But yeah, that's man on Fireman.
I love this movie and I'm onfire.
I'm on fire Tony Scott movie.
I just need to own them.
(58:53):
I actually bought this onAmazon Prime because it was
$3.99 to rent $4.99 to buy.
Speaker 2 (58:59):
Did you buy it or did
you just rent it?
I watched it on Tubi.
Speaker 1 (59:01):
It was free With ads.
I did not know.
Well, I'm glad I did not wantto sit through, make this movie
five hours long.
Speaker 2 (59:09):
It was fine for me
because I was like cleaning the
kitchen and watching it while Iwas cleaning.
So every time the commercialswould come on, I'd be able to,
like, do some other stuff, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 1 (59:19):
It worked out.
But we're going to go to ourcategories.
The first category is the good, the bad, the ugly, the fine.
It's where we discuss the goodof the movie, something we like.
The bad, something we didn'tlike.
The ugly something didn't agewell.
The fine something that did agewell.
All right, what's your good?
Speaker 2 (59:35):
My good is all the,
it's all the the, the emotion,
the emotional shit from.
Speaker 1 (59:44):
Denzel, it really
resonates, it really does
resonate?
It's like you're immediatelylike ah, I love these people.
I love these people, I lovethese characters.
I did not expect going intothis to like anybody other than
Denzel, and maybe if it has acool villain, yeah.
Speaker 2 (59:58):
I didn't really care
for the mom that much, but like
it really matters.
She was in the movie very much.
Speaker 1 (01:00:02):
It was just mainly
for hers.
I'll get to it, but it's justclassic.
Oh, we have to have the mom inthe movie.
We're not going to give heranything to do, but I do love
her like outbursts, likewhenever they find out Pete is
dead, she's like everybody getthe fuck.
Speaker 2 (01:00:18):
She's like slapping
everybody.
Speaker 1 (01:00:21):
Like the amount of
times she slapped people in this
movie.
Speaker 2 (01:00:23):
I was like yeah, lisa
, because that's how you're
supposed to react when yourdaughter gets kidnapped.
Yeah, like that daughter getskidnapped.
Yeah, like that, and like evenwhen you, when he's getting
revenge, god, just it feels sogood and when the best denzel
and dakota fanning are doingtheir stuff.
You're like man, this feelsgreat.
Speaker 1 (01:00:41):
I don't know yeah, no
, you're right, that's.
It's perfect.
That's essentially I had.
I had, well obviously, denzel, dakota fanning, tony scott it's
great.
I didn't expect those three tobe make a movie together and
it'd be this fucking rad, right,I mean I should.
Tony Scott's great, denzel'sgreat, dakota Finn's been great
and everything I don't know.
I just it's not like a movie.
(01:01:01):
I hear people talk about a lot.
I've heard people bring it upbeing like a fun, cool movie.
But I didn't realize that I wasgoing to love the movie.
You know, I assume that yourecommended it.
I was like, oh, if he'srecommending the movie, it's got
to be pretty good.
Oh, thanks.
Well, it was something that youwere like we should do man on
Fire and I was like, holy shit, okay, he's like really wants to
do it, it's got to be prettygood.
(01:01:23):
And then also the buildup andrelease like you were talking
about build up so much, it's sohappy and the release is so God
dang necessary.
So I'll do my bad.
Since we kind of talked aboutit a little bit, I put Lisa what
is her accent?
Where is she from?
What is this?
(01:01:44):
And it's not the actress'sfault, all right, I mean, maybe
the accent is, but you know it'sjust.
Speaker 2 (01:01:50):
Somebody should have
been keeping tabs on this accent
it's just, it's just typical,like you know.
Speaker 1 (01:01:56):
Uh, man has to go do
something, woman just has to
come in and cry a lot.
Speaker 2 (01:02:00):
Maybe there's like a
big break between scenes that
she was in and she's like ohshit, what accent did I use?
Speaker 1 (01:02:06):
well, apparently her
other scenes were getting uh
railed by the two men in themovie, so not together.
Speaker 2 (01:02:14):
But separately.
Speaker 1 (01:02:15):
Yeah, I'm glad they
took that out.
But yeah, like, yeah, I mean Iliked her character when she was
like smacking the shit out ofpeople.
I was like, hell, yeah, we needto show moms who are upset in
movies doing that more.
Hell, yeah, mad mamas, yeah, um, so, like, I liked some of the
stuff her character did is justlike I did not understand the
accent.
It was tripping me out becausesometimes it just sounded a
(01:02:36):
little British.
She didn't need to have one, yeah, she just talked normal
Whatever, whatever accent shewanted.
I guess ever how she talked.
Dakota Fanning was going tohave to talk, okay.
Speaker 2 (01:02:45):
So it's like you
inherit your accent from your
parents.
Speaker 1 (01:02:49):
Well, like hearing
your mom talk a lot, yeah, yeah,
yeah, I don't know.
Speaker 2 (01:02:53):
My bad was like the
kidnapping stuff sucks ass.
That that's a thing.
But like my mom who lives inMexico, if we ever bring up the
fact that we're scared to takeour kids there because of all
the kidnapping, she gets realupset about it and defends
Mexico real hard.
Yeah, just like still got to beworried about.
I've seen the movie.
(01:03:15):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:03:16):
Just come here, mom,
we'll pay for you to fly up here
.
Yeah yeah, that is badKidnapping bad yeah, man.
So for the ugly, mine is prettymuch already kind of talked
about in the movie the editing, editing the style, and it's a
Tony Scott thing.
It's a bit nauseating at somepoints.
(01:03:38):
I just feel like his 2000movies are so obnoxious with it.
It's like when I think abouthis other movies I'm like they
were kind of wildly edited.
Yeah, but like the shakiness, like the ramping up speed,
slowing down the speed, and I'mjust, am I on?
Speaker 2 (01:03:53):
a boat.
Speaker 1 (01:03:54):
Jeez, louise, I'm on
a boat, but this was something
that was happening in like 2000smovies, Like I said, during
Unstoppable.
It happened during Saw Traffic.
Speaker 2 (01:04:03):
Yeah, it happened a
lot in that one.
Is that another Tony Scottmovie?
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (01:04:06):
I don't think so.
It's quite a bit Was think soit's quite a bit.
Speaker 2 (01:04:13):
Was that Soderbergh?
Uh, tell me you're ugly.
When I look that up my uglyit's not really a whole lot like
I feel like that did prettygood.
I don't know my ugly I thinkwould be that it's is.
If Dakota Fanning's dad issupposed to be her dad, like her
real father is a very whitelittle girl.
Speaker 1 (01:04:31):
Yeah, they're pretty
white With a mixed family.
Speaker 2 (01:04:34):
Yeah, but I don't
know, it's not really an ugly
thing, it's just kind of a weirdthing that bothered me a little
bit.
Speaker 1 (01:04:43):
Yeah, it was just
like how does this kid fit into
this?
It takes you out of the moviefor a moment to be like so was
this Lisa's daughter beforeSamuel?
That's what it kind of seemslike.
Was this Lisa's daughter beforeSamuel?
Or that's what it kind of seemslike.
Yeah, and not explaining itkind of makes it where it's like
, oh, it took you out of themovie for just like a second.
Sure, yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:04:57):
I see how that yeah
so the fine.
Speaker 1 (01:05:01):
I put Tony Scott, one
of the best action directors
that we did not appreciateenough while he was still here
same thing from unstoppable, that I said it was just such a
fun ass movie.
Yeah, I mean, the guy knows howto make an action flick,
(01:05:21):
whether it's a man on fire or anunstoppable train or some top
guns.
Speaker 2 (01:05:24):
All right, what do
you got for the fine?
The fine, I don't know man, Ithink Dakota Fanning, I hope she
, she does a lot, I mean she's alot, I hope I mean she's a lot
older now and you don't reallysee her a lot.
Speaker 1 (01:05:35):
I think she's in the
Watchers, which was directed by
um cause, directed by shit um M,not Shyamalan's daughter.
It's on Max um she.
But the last thing I saw her inwas Once Upon a Time in
hollywood quentin tarantino'smovie.
Okay, she's at the ranch.
Have you seen that yet?
Speaker 2 (01:05:55):
no, no, but like I,
really it's on seven I think, um
, I really would like to seelike her doing more roles.
Uh, because you know, likechild actors have a really hard
time yeah, growing up out oftheir yeahleness?
Speaker 1 (01:06:10):
Yeah, I definitely.
I think.
I can't remember if I rememberreading it or not, but I feel
like she had a hard time afteryou know.
Speaker 2 (01:06:16):
Yeah, because once
you're not a little cute baby
anymore, like they kind of throwyou out with a you know baby,
out with the bathwater, it'slike I need to read up about her
.
Speaker 1 (01:06:27):
What was like her
history of growing up as a child
?
Speaker 2 (01:06:29):
Let's get her on the
pod.
Speaker 1 (01:06:30):
Yeah, dakota Fanning,
if you're listening.
All right, we're going to hitour next and last category,
called Double Feature.
What is a?
Speaker 2 (01:06:43):
movie Jason that you
think goes well with man on Fire
.
Well, if you just can't getenough of girls getting
kidnapped, what's taken?
Speaker 1 (01:06:47):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:06:48):
I'd like to watch it
back to back just to compare
which.
Who, which director did itbetter.
Yeah, and because I, from whatI remember of taken it was cool,
but it was I don't.
I think this one, I think manon fire does it better?
Speaker 1 (01:07:02):
when I watched taken
for the first time, uh, I
decided I never wanted to travelagain.
Yeah, the action in Taken wasreally fun, and, of course, liam
Neeson's just like I don't know.
Before he started doing allthese action movies as an old
man, he was regarded as a reallygood actor.
Yeah, you know, theater actor, shakespearean type stuff, I
(01:07:24):
don't know.
So my movie that I picked is amovie that I watched for the
first time because Natalie toldme I had to watch it.
It's a Kurt Russell movie.
It's called Breakdown.

and she takes a ride to likethe nearest store with a truck
driver.

It's stressful and fun.
Kurt Russell's great.
He's pissed the hell off you'llsee a bunch of actors in this
movie that you'll be like, oh, Ihaven't thought about them in a
while.
Like JT Walsh.
Oh wow, mc Ganey, he's.
He's in Lost, of course.
Yeah, there's just a few peopleyou see like, oh, I haven't
seen them in a while.
So much fun.
(01:08:09):
Oh yeah, so stressful.
And it's kind of like it makesyou like I never really thought
about the crime world in MexicoCity.
Right, yeah, this will make younever thought about the crime
world.
Truckers oh man, they're awful.
Yeah, I know.
Speaker 2 (01:08:24):

scary where they interviewed a
guy that went along with twouncles that are truck drivers
and they are scary the truckdrivers I know, which is mainly
through Natalie.
They're all like really goodpeople yeah, I mean, my uncles
are fine.
Yeah, they're just creepy yeah, not all.
Speaker 1 (01:08:45):
Not all truck drivers
are creepy.
Speaker 2 (01:08:47):
Jason, my uncle,
richard, open kissed, open mouth
kissed my wife on our weddingnight after we got married.
Speaker 1 (01:08:56):
Put them in jail she
was like ew, ew, ew, ew.
It's like oh, this is not whatI wanted, way to completely ruin
this night for us because I'll.
Speaker 2 (01:09:08):
That's the only thing
I can't kiss her anymore.
Yeah well, I guess she's yoursnow.
