SPEAKER_01 (00:11):
Hey, everybody, and
welcome to We Watch TV.
It is the podcast about the TVthat we watch.
I'm Daniel.
She is Hope.
This is episode 106.
And have you guys ever heard theTarget stalker?
We were in Target recently, andwe were going down through the
(00:33):
aisles, and it seemed like everytime the guy was right always an
aisle behind
SPEAKER_00 (00:44):
us.
It was like Jaws.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01 (00:46):
It was like I was
sitting there trying to say,
look at this item that I thinkwe could buy.
Hey, what about this?
Yeah.
I think what he was doing was hehad collected all the random
stuff that people pick up, putin their cart, and then drop off
in another place because theydecide they don't want it.
And I think he was putting itall back.
But the scanning noise.
SPEAKER_00 (01:06):
It was very
overstimulating.
SPEAKER_01 (01:09):
Yeah, like we were
being hunted.
And this was like during crime.
It was like a predatorsituation.
SPEAKER_00 (01:15):
It's like Jurassic
Park, too, like when they're in
the kitchen.
Get to
SPEAKER_01 (01:18):
the chopper!
SPEAKER_00 (01:19):
And the
velociraptors are like going
after them like that.
Oh, that's a good one, yeah.
Like I'm trying
SPEAKER_01 (01:23):
to hide at some
point.
SPEAKER_00 (01:24):
The sound was more
of like a Jaws thing, like
da-na, da-na, da-na.
But how do you do that?
Do it like, make it likeJaws-ish, but do the sound like,
because I can't do the sound asgood as you.
SPEAKER_01 (01:37):
I can't.
It
SPEAKER_03 (01:38):
was like, da-na,
da-na, da-na, da-na, da-na,
da-na.
And
SPEAKER_00 (01:42):
it's not like this
was going on during an off time
of day.
You know?
SPEAKER_03 (01:48):
Let's
SPEAKER_00 (01:50):
be done with that.
I've had enough.
You know what I mean, though?
This was like prime busyshopping time.
where a lot of people were inthe store.
So we've been there really earlybefore, really late.
This was midday.
SPEAKER_01 (02:04):
Yeah.
Every time we wrapped up what wewere looking at in an aisle, we
moved to the next aisle, andthen he followed us into the
aisle that we were in.
and beeped at us
SPEAKER_00 (02:13):
well sometimes we
didn't even wrap it up we just
wanted to get away from it sothen we had to go back and back
track and there he was again Ireally think that he wanted to
be our friend and it wasn't oneof those situations like this
was an actual employee we've hadtimes before where we've been
like at Walmart or Target orlike a big box store where I
guess if you're a tall manpeople think you work there can
(02:35):
help them or people will comefind Daniel and be like hey can
you get this off the shelf forme this was an actual worker
SPEAKER_01 (02:41):
Okay, so there's two
situations you just described
there that happen to me on avery regular basis when I'm at
Walmart specifically.
SPEAKER_00 (02:49):
Yeah.
SPEAKER_01 (02:50):
Well, the one of
them can be anywhere, but one of
them is specifically Walmart.
I'm tall enough that any timeI'm in an aisle and somebody is
short, especially old ladies...
They're like, young man,
SPEAKER_00 (03:02):
could you...
At least they say young manstill.
SPEAKER_01 (03:04):
Well, it hasn't
happened in a while, so they
might not say that anymore.
Oh, fart.
Could you get that down for me,please?
And then this doesn't happen asmuch now, but I used to wear a
very specific pants, polo shirtcombination to work that just so
happened to match...
(03:25):
uniform colors for managers atWalmart and all the time I would
have people come up to me and belike hey I can't find such and
such and I'm like
SPEAKER_02 (03:32):
cool
SPEAKER_01 (03:33):
I don't work here
occasionally if I knew what they
were looking for I just pointedthem in the right direction so I
can't
SPEAKER_00 (03:40):
Honestly say no
one's ever come up to me in a
store to ask me.
Now, I have people that randomlycome up and decide to talk to
me.
SPEAKER_02 (03:45):
Sure.
SPEAKER_00 (03:46):
Because I have the
opposite of RBF face.
I have like resting nice face.
You've noticed this.
We're airline, airports, whatever, wherever we are,
strangers always come up andstrike a conversation with me.
They see me as somebody theywant to be friends with.
I must just have that joyousglow about me.
SPEAKER_01 (04:02):
The only people that
do that to me.
Except for when I'm running.
The only people that do that tome are old dudes.
SPEAKER_00 (04:08):
Old dudes love me.
Yeah, well.
Different
SPEAKER_01 (04:11):
reasons.
SPEAKER_00 (04:12):
But everybody always
wants to come talk to me.
I have the opposite of RBF.
I must have friendly, knows whatshe's doing.
I had to help these.
It was on one of my girls' tripsonce.
You know how, well, I don't knowhow they're going to do it now
when they put the new rules inplace.
But right now, the currentSouthwest system is you get in
line based on your boardinggroup and what number you are.
They were so confused.
(04:33):
They're like, is this ourticket?
Is this our seat number?
And I'm like, no, no.
I'm like, you're right.
You go here.
I was like, you're in A.
I was like, that's just theorder you get on the plane.
And they're like, well, whereare we going to sit when we get
on the plane?
And I'm like, wherever you wantwhen you get on the plane.
And I'm sitting there like, that's the reason why Southwest
is ruining things for peoplelike you who don't know what
(04:55):
they're doing.
Do you remember, though, thetime we were at Disney, and that
old man comes over to me withhis wife, and he's like, hey,
how'd you guys get those DoleWhips so fast?
Oh, yeah.
Which now you can't mobile orderat Dole Whip.
You can mobile order at CitrusWhirl, but you can't at Dole
Whip.
But I was like, oh, mobileorder.
You ended up with
SPEAKER_01 (05:13):
his phone in your
hands teaching him how to do
mobile order.
SPEAKER_00 (05:15):
Well, I was trying
to show him.
He's like, can you just do it onmy phone for me?
I have the app, and I'm like...
Okay.
Yeah, so that's another example.
I guess...
just like they see like I thinkthat guy was just like how how
and I bet I had a feeling hiswife was probably like well
they're all getting their dolewhips early why are we yeah
SPEAKER_01 (05:36):
yeah there was a
situation there where he was
like I have to wait in the lineand she's like why is everybody
else getting theirs before meRaj
SPEAKER_00 (05:43):
which I always
wonder about them now that you
can't I didn't think of Raj Ithought of like a Harold for his
age okay or a Herbert I think
SPEAKER_01 (05:54):
he was that old
SPEAKER_00 (05:55):
he's older than like
our parents parents i think what
is age i consider myself to bevery youthful anyway shall we
like talk about some shows wellfirst off it's the unofficial
start to summer because memorialday weekend is the even though
it was it was cold here oddlyenough marks the unofficial
(06:18):
start to summer are you excitedor is it just another season
SPEAKER_01 (06:22):
it's just another
season
SPEAKER_00 (06:23):
I'm the type of
person that when I get to June,
which happy June, by the way,I'm like, all right, let's get
to the berm months.
I'm ready for fall.
I'm ready to put out my bigskeleton outside.
I'm ready to decorate, put allmy bat stuff out, all my
Halloween decor becauseHalloween is not a day.
It's a season.
And then, you know, October31st, clock strikes midnight.
(06:44):
We get into November 1st.
Boom, Christmas.
Thanksgiving is a holiday thatfalls during the Christmas
season.
I'm so excited.
I think we were talking about ittoday because we talk about it
all the time just how much rightnow I'm holding back from
watching a Muppet ChristmasCarol right now because I want
to watch it so bad.
SPEAKER_01 (07:01):
We were talking
about that on our run, of all
things, for some reason.
We were talking about CharlesDickens.
Yeah, yeah.
Okay, yeah.
That's how that came out.
SPEAKER_00 (07:06):
And then I was like,
Mr.
Dickens.
And that's how we got into that.
It's relevant to all aspects oflife.
But, like, are you, like, what'syour takes on summer, Daniel?
SPEAKER_01 (07:18):
So, right now, I'm
actually looking forward to just
a little bit of heat because theweather here has been so wet,
rainy, cold.
Oh, gosh, yes.
Miserable for May.
May was, like.
SPEAKER_00 (07:27):
Is today the first
day it hasn't rained?
In, like, a
SPEAKER_01 (07:30):
week, yeah, or two.
Yeah.
Yeah.
But then, like, it's going toput the foot on the pedal here
in the next month or two, andsuddenly it's going to be 90
every day, and I'm not lookingforward to that.
So I would prefer it to, youknow, have a couple weeks in the
80s and then cool back down tothe 70s for a while.
I would
SPEAKER_00 (07:46):
just be happy if we
could be in the 70s.
I don't live in SouthernCalifornia.
But you know that won't be it.
Anyway, give us the target thingso we can kick off our next
SPEAKER_03 (07:57):
segment.
Ba-da-da-loop, ba-da-da-loop,ba-da-da-loop.
SPEAKER_00 (07:59):
Let's talk about
some movies, movies, yes, movies
or movie and shows that we'vebeen watching.
Just a friendly reminder that weare a spoiler podcast and we do
put chapter markers there.
Daniel takes a lot of sweet, good time out of the kindness of
his wonderful, amazing heart toput those little chapter markers
(08:21):
in there.
But the first thing that we'regoing to talk about is It
shouldn't really be a spoilerbecause, you know, the movie,
the OG movie came out a reallylong time ago, like 2001, 2002.
When did Lilo and Stitch comeout?
I have no idea.
Early 2000s.
I was
SPEAKER_01 (08:37):
never a Lilo and
Stitch kid.
Because if it came out in thattime period, I would remind you
that neither of us were actuallykids.
I was a Lilo and Stitch teen.
I'm a Lilo and Stitch adult.
We were teens.
We were teens.
SPEAKER_00 (08:47):
My only Hawaiian
roller coaster ride.
SPEAKER_01 (08:51):
So you went and
watched the live action Lilo and
Stitch, minus me.
Yes.
I bowed out of that one.
Oh,
SPEAKER_00 (08:58):
God.
Just kidding.
My nephew is my movie, becomingmy movie buddy.
He's who I took to see Wicked.
We already have plans to seeWicked Part 2.
Can't wait for that, by the way.
and we made plans to see liloand stitch i feel like we made
plans like right after we sawwicked because we knew the live
action movie was coming out inthe summer we didn't have a date
(09:19):
and then the date uh they gavethe date they gave the trailer
and yeah we made plans to go seeit And it was so good.
So good.
There's been some controversyonline, which I think is very
unwarranted.
And I think a lot of it iscoming from people that didn't
actually see the movie.
And I'll get to that in aminute.
But everybody knows I'm a Disneyadult, quote unquote.
(09:40):
But I still will criticize whenI feel necessary.
And...
This is an example of where theygot a live action movie right.
Honestly, for me, it was a 10 of10.
It was so cute, so adorable.
The girl that played Lilo wasperfection.
And it's really hard to findchild actors that can do a role
(10:01):
so well.
Not only was she adorable, but Ifeel like she actually does do
hula dancing.
And she nailed the part.
You could tell she did herhomework.
And she's been so cute in allthe press tour interviews.
So she was great.
Stitch looked super cute.
I was worried we'd have a Sonicsituation on our hands.
Because remember how Soniclooked weird and they had to
change him?
Oh, ugly Sonic, yeah.
(10:23):
And it was just because Stitchis so adorable as a cartoon.
And then when you meet him atthe Disney parks, he looks cute.
But I had wondered, how are theygoing to make it look cute with
the CGI for the movie?
Oh my gosh, so cute that I justwanted to pick him up and hug
him and make him part of ourOhana.
I've always loved Stitch.
Stitch is a little menace, alittle troublemaker.
(10:44):
But he kind of reminds me of ourdogs that we've had.
He's one of those charactersthat I feel like you really
either love Stitch or you'rejust like, what's the big deal?
I think you're the type that youdon't criticize people for
liking Stitch.
You're not a huge Stitch person.
SPEAKER_01 (10:59):
Yeah, I like the
character.
I think it's a fun kind ofdifferent...
Great soundtrack.
It's kind of an off-branddifferent from what Disney
normally does with a lot ofthese movies.
I mean, I like it.
It's just not like...
If I had seen...
If Lilo and Stitch had come out10 years earlier, I'd probably
be right there with you
SPEAKER_00 (11:15):
meanwhile I'm like
not only did I see the movie I
used to watch the cartoon show Irecently actually after we
watched the movie turned onDisney Plus and started watching
some episodes of the old cartoonshow to see if I still enjoyed
it as much as I did likeprobably
SPEAKER_01 (11:32):
like I would say you
know I was probably going
through that phase teenage boysgo through where it's a cartoon
so it's not there's no chanceI'm gonna watch it because it
can't be cool
SPEAKER_00 (11:41):
I've always been a
Disney gal but I remember seeing
it and I was like oh this Thisis so cute.
So yeah, we had a great time.
Unfortunately, the popcornbucket we wanted was sold out.
It was the from Regal Cinemas.
It was like a flock.
They say flock because it lookedlike felty on the outside.
Not on the inside, obviously.
That'd be gross.
And it looked like him.
(12:03):
It looked like Stitch sitting onthe ground.
It's not that funny, dude.
And we really wanted that, butthey didn't have that.
But they did.
If you look behind me, you cansee them right here.
They had little Go ahead,everybody.
Look
SPEAKER_01 (12:15):
behind her.
I
SPEAKER_00 (12:16):
was talking to
SPEAKER_01 (12:17):
you.
SPEAKER_00 (12:18):
You threw me off by
laughing at my velvet thing
because it wasn't that funny.
It's collectible.
I don't think anybody would have
SPEAKER_01 (12:24):
assumed that it was
on the inside, Hope.
SPEAKER_00 (12:26):
No, I did.
And people on TikTok did becauseI was like, ew, won't that make
if you actually put your popcornin there like really gross and
greasy?
No, it's just the normal.
It's
SPEAKER_01 (12:35):
going to get gross
and greasy anyways, because
that's
SPEAKER_00 (12:37):
why a lot of people
don't put popcorn in and they
just get it and they have theirbag of popcorn.
Just have this plastic piece ofcrap just sitting
SPEAKER_01 (12:43):
around the house.
SPEAKER_00 (12:45):
I'm looking right
now and I did put popcorn in my
Barbie movie bucket.
And then I'm also looking mywicked popcorn bucket that
lights up.
We had to buy those and itdidn't come with the popcorn
because it's collectible.
SPEAKER_01 (12:55):
It looks so nice
sitting there, too.
SPEAKER_00 (12:57):
It does look cute.
It goes with all my aesthetic.
Of my cute little decorativetouches.
Okay.
You have Thor's hammer behindyour desk.
SPEAKER_01 (13:08):
It's a bookend.
It's acting as a bookend.
Okay.
It's serving a purpose.
SPEAKER_00 (13:13):
I have items in both
of these popcorn buckets.
My Taylor Swift popcorn bucketis on our record player.
My Taylor Swift cup is on myprinter.
So anyway, we got the cutelittle Stitch plushie.
We also got, I haven't hadDippin' Dots in like over a
decade.
Do you remember the last timeyou had Dippin' Dots?
SPEAKER_01 (13:31):
I cannot register
whether I ever have or not.
SPEAKER_00 (13:34):
Well, I don't know
if it's great that I'm like the
adult in the situation, butGavin also likes the theme.
And I'm like, oh, me too.
Well, Dippin' Dots came out witha special flavor for the Stitch
movie, like Hawaiian crumble.
And it was a coconut pineappleice cream with little cake
crumbles.
It looked like the size of aYoplait yogurt container, super
small, and then obviously amillion dollars because we're at
(13:54):
the movies.
So good.
So good.
So, like, when we saw Wicked, wegot these collector's pillows,
and I'm like, oh, I've neverbought a pillow at a movie
theater before.
I can say that's the first time, and I know other people do it,
but that's the first time I'veeaten, like, ice cream.
Like, I've had Icy's, but thatwas really yummy.
And then after the movie wasover, we were in such a good
mood, and there were two ofStitch's little girlfriend Angel
(14:18):
left, the little pink one.
She shows up like in the series, but you can actually meet her, I
believe, in the overseas parks.
SPEAKER_01 (14:26):
So wait, wait.
Stitch's girlfriend is not thepink one that you've got here.
Yeah, that's her.
Okay.
I thought you said cousin.
SPEAKER_00 (14:33):
Well, they call
everybody like the cousins, but
like it's apparently like hisgirlfriend, but they're not like
actually related.
That was a clarification Ineeded.
You know when we go to eat atOhana and they, because Ohana,
they always say like, hi cousinat Disney.
SPEAKER_01 (14:44):
I don't know.
I don't recall
SPEAKER_00 (14:45):
that.
You're just so, because we eatbreakfast there.
I think you're just in a zone.
You haven't had coffee yet.
You're not.
thinking.
SPEAKER_01 (14:51):
It's not happening.
SPEAKER_00 (14:51):
It's up to me again
to have my non-RBF face because
if they don't assume that you'rea worker there, you're not going
to get acknowledged.
That's true.
Whereas they're always nice tome.
Anyway, we had to get her.
There was two left and Gavin waslike...
perfect there's two left and Idon't know if they had any more
in the back room but I was likeokay fine so we got that and
(15:12):
then we walked over to thistable because I wanted to get a
picture of Gavin with like theStitch poster and they had all
these balloons and then they hadthese free activity sheets of
like mazes connect the dots andcoloring pages and mind you
Gavin's a teenager too I knowI'm a grown adult but we were
like oh free stuff but yeah themovie itself was really cute
they had some little winks tothe original movie there's a
(15:34):
social worker I'll get into thatin a minute in the movie and she
was actually um the voice of theoriginal um nonny character um
lilo's sister and then we hadthe guy that originally voiced
david he showed up i think hewas like a business owner or
something so we had some ofthose like little winks and then
(15:55):
of course i was like the wholetime i'm like wow whoever they
got to do stitch like did itperfectly um You want to know
why?
Because it's the original guythat has always voiced Stitch.
So that's why that was so good.
And they did add some charactersand then they kind of changed
some stuff a little bit.
But it wasn't like majorchanges.
For the most part, they stuck tothe story, but they just adapted
(16:18):
it for live action.
And
SPEAKER_01 (16:22):
it's more live
action than The Lion King that
they call live action.
Because the only CG, like it wasall film except for Stitch and
like the aliens when they showup.
SPEAKER_00 (16:32):
Yeah.
So they did change...
So here's your spoiler part ifyou didn't listen to my thing.
I mean, it's a kid's movie,guys.
They changed the villain, whichI knew that going in, that Gantu
wasn't going to be in it.
They did make...
One like Jumbo a Jumbo I thinkis his name.
He they he's the one thatcreated the experiments and he
(16:55):
was sort of made the villain andlater like he is actually like
in the series and he hangs outwith Lilo and Stitch is like
their friend.
I think because this movie hasdone so well at the box office
that.
there is if they do anothermovie you can redeem him
whatever and then the other guythat always um the alien that
when he would it's like hishuman persona it was really
(17:15):
funny because he would alwayswear dresses they didn't let him
like wear dresses but they didlet him have and I guess the
actor like advocated for thatlike really wanted to but they
told him no but whatever but hedid wear like women's clothing
still like pants goofy shirtsand stuff so there was still
that little wink there Theyadded another character, Tutu,
their neighbor, David's mom.
(17:35):
And some people have been, like, annoyed by that character.
Gavin and I loved her.
We thought she was hilarious anda great addition to the cast.
And then the major change thathas had a little bit of some
controversy is– and, again, Ithink a lot of this is coming
off from people that arewatching TikToks that just heard
a little statement and are–popping off at the mouth without
(17:56):
even seeing it or reallyunderstanding or they didn't
stay for the post credits orwhatever is that Lilo's sister
actually goes off to college.
She does not give Lilo up to thestate, as people are saying.
That's what
SPEAKER_01 (18:11):
TikTok told me.
SPEAKER_00 (18:12):
TikTok told me she
gave her up.
It's not the way.
That's not how it happens.
And honestly, when the moviestarted, and I kind of knew that
she was going to go to college,so that's something that I did
know a little bit going inbecause people were freaking
out.
I was like, I'm going to go intoit with an open mind because I'm
still really excited to see thismovie.
I'm like, I'm sure people are,and yes, people way overreacted.
That's not how it is.
Context is important, guys.
(18:33):
I sat down and I'm like, whenyou watch a cartoon, okay, they
look, everybody looks down, butyou don't really see age.
Yeah.
I see a teenage girl raising achild.
And I was like, Ooh, this islike really kind of sad and
depressing.
And she, and we find out, youknow, that she wanted to be a
(18:53):
Marine biologist.
She had had offers for a fullride in San Diego.
I know there's Marine biology inHawaii.
People have tried to argue thattill the cows come home,
whatever.
She might want to go exploreother things and then come back,
like make herself like, so shecan hold a job.
Cause she's struggling holdingdown a job in the movie because
she's trying to raise Lilo.
(19:15):
She's, trying to work out thesecrazy hours manage a household
it was actually like veryrealistic and like how stressful
that would be for somebody soyoung and it really hit home
that part um but she kind of waslike I'm not doing that anymore
my priority is Lilo and as themovie goes on you know they meet
Stitch becomes part of the Ohanalike Lilo thinks you know Stitch
(19:36):
is like a dog and brings the doghome so we have our cute little
shenanigans um and then at theend you know the climax of the
movie um Lilo's like you know II meant what I didn't mean when
I said that I didn't like you asa mommy I just like you as she's
like I like you as both she'slike but Ohana also means you
know not forgetting who you areum and not leaving yourself
(19:58):
behind she's like mom and dadwould have wanted you to go to
college so how it works out isthat they still Lilo gets to
stay in her house the house isnot surrendered it is fixed up
after the fight and Tutu theneighbor David's mom which is
like Lilo's boyfriend, I guess,his mom.
She agrees to raise Lilo.
(20:21):
So it's Ohana also as yourvillage, your people, your
friends, your family, who canall come together.
So to me, it actuallystrengthened the bonds of Ohana.
And they also have the portalgun.
So she can come visit Lilo atany point she wants to.
And they have a scene where sheuses it.
She surprises Lilo and they allsnuggle in bed together.
And they're like, good night,sister.
(20:41):
Good night, sister.
And Stitch says, good night,sisters.
And I'm like, oh.
I cried so much.
Was
SPEAKER_01 (20:46):
there a portal gun
in the cartoon?
I
SPEAKER_00 (20:49):
think so.
I haven't seen the OG in areally long time.
but yeah it's all about like thealiens the technology and
everything so it was there was ascene though where they were
Stitch she had they had torescue Stitch and it was so sad
even though I knew like thatStitch would be fine I'm like oh
this is traumatic for me like Ialmost was starting to cry like
(21:09):
at the very beginning when wefirst saw Stitch because he was
so cute because I love thismovie so much and I was so happy
so I feel like I cried more inthe live-action Lilo and Stitch
than I did Wicked which wasinsane which I haven't seen
Wicked part two yet I'm gonna bemessing that one But yeah,
that's that whole thing withpeople saying that, that she
abandoned Lilo.
Not the case.
Her plan, you know, is going togo to school, live out her
(21:32):
dream, come back.
And that's Ohana, not forgettingyourself, having your friends,
your neighbors, your family helpyou.
So yeah.
that's my take on it I've talkedto a lot of other people that
are Lilo and Stitch super fansthere is a girl that I'm friends
with that's like literally herfavorite Disney movie and she
loved it she thought the changesjust like I did like she said
(21:55):
the same thing to me she's likeI thought they adapted well for
live action she's like a littledarker sadder in parts but it
worked really well and it wasstill really cute so honestly I
stand by what the only thing Iwould have liked is seeing the
one dude like in an actual dressbut other than that really no no
10 of 10.
I think it's the best Disneylive action they have done
probably since Beauty and theBeast.
(22:16):
I think Cinderella and Beautyand the Beast are like the two
main tier.
I personally did like theAladdin live action because
Jasmine got more depth and Ijust love Aladdin so much.
The cartoon.
I feel like I was always goingto like that one unless they
royally screwed it up.
But I think it's the best onesince.
And right now, I believe I justread that it is the second
highest grossing movie of theyear right now, which behind, I
(22:38):
think, the Minecraft movie is sofar the one that's made the most
SPEAKER_01 (22:42):
money.
Yeah, Minecraft movie blew up.
SPEAKER_00 (22:43):
Yeah, I think that
one drew.
I'm not really into that.
You played Minecraft.
Did you want to see that?
SPEAKER_01 (22:47):
No, not at all.
SPEAKER_00 (22:48):
I think it's on
streaming now.
SPEAKER_01 (22:51):
No, not at all.
SPEAKER_00 (22:52):
I feel like when
Lilo and Stitch live action
comes to Disney+, you and I willhave to watch it together
because it was seriously so, socute.
and we were like vibing at theend of the music and the credits
and then at one point becausethey had like a kind of a
mid-credit scene but then theywere playing the music and Gavin
and I were like dancing aroundand then I look behind me and
it's like the guy sweeping atthe air he's like you guys have
(23:13):
fun I was like yeah we shouldprobably leave Gavin
SPEAKER_01 (23:15):
all right Well, with
that out of the way, we do have
some television shows that Iwatched with you.
Yes.
First up here on the agenda isactually a season finale.
Yes.
Hacks, season four, finalepisode.
Yes.
And it was kind of ananticlimactic kind of episode,
(23:39):
but we've talked about it, and Ithink we both agreed it was
necessary because otherwise thiswould have had to have been the
first episode of of season fiveand that wouldn't have worked
really well I don't think
SPEAKER_00 (23:53):
and I feel like just
to catch the listeners up I
don't think we've talked aboutHacks the last couple podcasts
because we wanted to save it forthe end so I think the last time
we spoke on Hacks Ava and Debrawere still at odds they were
able to put that behind them Avahad a massive crash out Debra
realized basically that she hadbeen being a horrible person and
(24:13):
that she wouldn't be where shewas without Ava so their fences
were mended and We have them, you know, they're back on track.
They're like, let's write theshow for each other.
I mean, I might have alreadysaid that in a previous podcast.
I don't remember.
Who knows?
And I'd say the episode beforethe finale was the big one.
SPEAKER_01 (24:33):
Yeah.
SPEAKER_00 (24:34):
Do you want to catch
them up to that?
SPEAKER_01 (24:35):
So what happened
was...
Helen Hunt's character, who waslike the executive over the
channel, had been really onDebra to come up with her
carpool karaoke equivalent,right?
Which we find out later, Wendythought that was a dumb idea
too, but that's just what yougotta do,
SPEAKER_00 (24:54):
right?
Yeah, you gotta play the gameand you work for it.
So she's
SPEAKER_01 (24:56):
so tough on it that
Debra ends up running into...
Bob Lipka.
Bob Lipka, who owns the studio,or he's the CEO of everything,
of the whole big conglomerate.
And she complains to Bob aboutWendy about that specific
situation.
Turn it around, and suddenly thenext thing we know, Wendy's been
(25:16):
fired.
and Bob is taken over.
And I
SPEAKER_00 (25:18):
don't think Debra
wanted that to happen
necessarily.
I don't think that was the
SPEAKER_01 (25:21):
result Debra was
looking for, but she also didn't
seem like she was that upset
SPEAKER_00 (25:25):
by it.
Yeah, I agree.
She was very Debra about it,like, oh well.
SPEAKER_01 (25:29):
So then the next
episode we're seeing the studio,
Bob Lipka has had them bring ona guest that's got some
problematic issues that Ava isdefinitely against.
Debra's not necessarily totallyagainst it, but she does in the
taping of the show ask him aquestion that his agents come
back and say, hey, we'd reallylike to cut that.
SPEAKER_00 (25:51):
Because apparently
they, I always thought Late
Night Show was like live.
It's not.
It's pre-taped.
I don't know why I stupidly, Ijust always thought they were
all up that late.
I guess they're on the WestCoast.
So I was like, they're not thatlate.
But what did they do it like inthe afternoon?
They do the tapings and that'show it is for all of them.
Unless it's a live show, whichwe'll get to in a minute.
SPEAKER_01 (26:09):
So that brings us to
the live show.
Debra was doing a live after theOscars show.
Which
SPEAKER_00 (26:14):
was huge because
they had gone to number one.
They're the number one latenight show.
You got to put in that detail.
They were successful.
SPEAKER_01 (26:22):
Bob also told
Deborah to fire Ava.
SPEAKER_00 (26:26):
Oh, yeah, because it
turned out Ava saw her old
coworkers at a bar and kind ofmentioned, which they were
already doing a hit piece onthis particular actor that had
problematic texts anyway.
And Ava, being Ava, just openedher mouth about it.
SPEAKER_01 (26:40):
And it sprung them
into a censorship conversation.
Exactly.
And that's what led to Deborahtricked Ava into being out of
the studio so she wouldn't beable to stop her.
I was nervous.
And on live TV, Deborah justlays out the studio head.
I keep saying studio headbecause I've got another show in
my head.
The executive on live air.
(27:03):
And then a couple other peopleconspire to keep it on the air
for long enough for her to getmost of her message out.
She, of course, is fired.
SPEAKER_00 (27:12):
Ava's watching this
from the security thing because
they had Ava's badge andeverything terminated.
Debra basically said, this hasbeen my dream job, but this is
what's going on.
It was a baller move.
SPEAKER_01 (27:23):
Which leads us to
our final episode of the season
where Debra basically, hercontract says if she gets fired,
she has a non-compete for 18
SPEAKER_00 (27:31):
months.
Which is a very normal thing andeven like like regular people's
line of works like i know thati've had to ask people before
like do you have a non-competewhen it comes to like
professional things like that'san actual thing that regular
people
SPEAKER_01 (27:43):
it shouldn't be but
i'm not going to get political
SPEAKER_00 (27:46):
you're not going to
get but it is a thing that
exists for all and you wouldthink that they did address that
they're like did you not readyour contract she's like well i
thought i was never going tohave another job again because i
finally got my dream job that'swhy i didn't read this contract
because reading contracts andlitigation was always something
that like deborah was into so iremember making a comment to you
like that's weird to me that shewouldn't have read that but so
they they clarified that andokay so here we go last episode
(28:10):
that let's the episode beforethat episode nine was crazy yeah
because it ended with them likeliterally like thelma louising
it like leaving the studiotogether and bob lipka at their
car being like hey you're neveryou're you're finished lady so
we had all that intensity andthen we pick up right with the
fallout, and we have Debra superdepressed.
SPEAKER_01 (28:31):
Yep.
She's visited a milliondifferent lawyers to try and
find her way out of thatcontract, but nobody can.
SPEAKER_00 (28:37):
You know what my
favorite part of...
just showcasing how depressedDebra was.
Yeah, I
SPEAKER_02 (28:43):
know.
SPEAKER_00 (28:44):
So back in Vegas, I
don't even think we saw her with
the fountain pop.
She always does the fountainDiet Cokes.
It was just her thing.
It's the thing that washighlighted in season one.
So it's just if you're a watcherof the show, you know that's a
thing.
And I look at you, and I'm like,oh, my gosh.
I was like, she's drinkingbottled Diet Coke.
She didn't go in because she'sin a convenience store, and she
(29:04):
didn't get the fountain pop.
She got just a bottle.
So it's just little details.
that writers sprinkle in likethat that I really like.
But then they decide, they'relike, you should, she talks to
him, we see Marty again.
I'm glad we've
SPEAKER_01 (29:19):
seen him.
Well, this is, if we saw himthis season, it was early, but I
don't think we have.
Yeah, I don't think we have.
Marty convinces her to go toHawaii to one of his resorts.
SPEAKER_00 (29:29):
To chill, to relax.
She
SPEAKER_01 (29:31):
decides to bring Ava
along with her, except...
They don't actually go toHawaii.
She takes her to Singaporebecause Debra has found her own
workaround from the contract, which is that she can, through a
translator, do her comedy in aSingapore casino equivalent.
So she starts doing that, andshe's really...
Her jokes are her old stuff.
SPEAKER_00 (29:52):
Ava's down for it at
first.
They have a montage of themhaving fun.
But you slowly start to seeAva's character kind of break.
And you see Debra's characterjust drinking more, phoning it
in, falling asleep on stage.
So while she's doing thisbecause she feels the need to
work, it's not fulfilling her.
SPEAKER_02 (30:08):
And
SPEAKER_00 (30:09):
then they almost had
me.
Why don't you...
Tell us what
SPEAKER_01 (30:15):
happened.
I did not believe this for onesecond.
So Debra and Ava have a fight.
It's not nearly as big of afight as what they've had in the
past.
SPEAKER_00 (30:24):
It wasn't their
normal fight.
But Ava decides she's
SPEAKER_01 (30:25):
going to go back to
the States.
And so she goes to her room.
And when she wakes up, she's gotlike a million phone calls.
And she finally gets on thephone with Debra's agent.
And she's like, can you check onDebra?
Because TMZ just published apost that she is dead.
And they went deep into veryserious music.
and Ava like longingly runningthrough the hallway and like
(30:47):
they were working real hard froma production value standpoint to
make you think this couldactually be true only to have
when Ava gets to her hotel roomand starts knocking on the door
SPEAKER_00 (30:57):
And Debra's like,
what?
Debra's
SPEAKER_01 (30:59):
alive, yeah.
SPEAKER_00 (31:00):
She's basically just
like hung over and laying in
bed.
You know why I think, I thinkwhen I'm really emotionally
invested in a show, it's easierfor a show to trick me because
some of my walls that I havebuilt up with other shows are
down.
But I also could see, I like,I'm like, what if, you know,
season five I think wasannounced like two days before
the finale aired.
And I'm like, what if they makeseason five about, because I
(31:20):
think they're still going toneed to.
Like at some point, Ava's goingto have to really strike out on
her own, I feel like, to be verysatisfying for us.
Like, Obviously, the point ofthe show is her relationship
with Debra, but I'd also like tosee Ava grow some in a different
way and be comfortable on herown.
So I thought, well, what if theyjust– I was like, that's a bold
(31:41):
move.
What if they're really doingthis?
But I should have known better.
And then it took that, Debrareading her obit or whatever
that TMZ put up to kind of–sometimes I think Debra is the
classic narcissistic type ofperson that sometimes it takes–
just a real kick in the butt tokind of shake you out of a funk.
And it took that for her to belike, Because they said in the
(32:04):
obit that she killed late night.
She's like, I'm not going to bea remember for that.
She's like, let's pack in.
Let's get to work.
Let's go.
So I think we're led to believethat at least a couple months
had passed by that they were inSingapore.
I don't think like the full 18months, but maybe a few months,
a couple months, a few months.
SPEAKER_01 (32:20):
Ava says at one
point, we've been here for a
couple months or something.
So time passed, but not the full18 months.
So I fully expect season five topick up still in the 18 month
period, maybe a little closer tothe end of it
SPEAKER_00 (32:33):
kind of like what
material what their next move is
SPEAKER_01 (32:36):
yeah
SPEAKER_00 (32:36):
and I'm really
looking forward to it and I
think you and I at first we hadthat initial reaction of wow
that was a really just kind oflike anti-climatic like you said
kind of just slow finalecompared to the previous episode
but it fits because as a viewerI liked seeing that fall out and
I would read that means that wecan start season five not from
(32:57):
that depressive place not thatshe won't still be depressed but
oh I think she
SPEAKER_01 (33:02):
She's mad now.
SPEAKER_00 (33:03):
Yeah, now she's
fired up.
She's mad.
And I think she's going to be alittle bit more driven.
And I think that's a really goodway to pick up for the new
season.
Because, you know, even whenshows pick up on the next day,
when you're waiting months tosee a show like we are...
Us says viewers might be like,oh, she should be over it.
You know what I mean?
(33:23):
Because time has passed for us.
It's hard for us to...
And I'm not saying...
When I say us, I don't mean thetwo of us.
I just mean viewers in generalthat are watching these shows.
So I thought that was a reallygood move.
SPEAKER_01 (33:33):
All right.
Question for you.
Yes.
So we have recently...
You have declared severance.
SPEAKER_00 (33:40):
You.
I did.
SPEAKER_01 (33:41):
Okay, okay, okay.
Recently, we have shaken up ourstuff a little bit, and I have
declared severance as the bestthing going.
You have in the past said thatthis show could be up there for
your best thing going.
It is.
Are you willing to say here andnow that we are in a split
decision on the best thing goingright now?
SPEAKER_00 (33:58):
Yes.
And I'm not saying that I don'tdisagree that severance has
every right to be in the bestthing going.
I just think for me...
Right.
Right.
(34:22):
And it just– this feud with themfelt just more intense and
personal than it ever hadbefore.
So it was stressful to me assomebody who really likes the
relationship of these twocharacters.
So I do really think Severanceis an amazing show.
I hope we don't have to waitforever for the next season.
But my style and type of TV thatI enjoy watching is more what
(34:43):
Hacks gives me.
And I feel like this show is abeautiful depiction of
characters.
But– not over the top.
They still very much feel likethemselves even when they
disappoint you.
But it also blends humor anddrama really well.
And I just really enjoy it.
So for me, it would be Hacks.
Now, originally, they alwayssaid they had a plan for five
seasons.
They've since said they mightnot.
(35:04):
They might do more.
And I read into that article alittle bit.
I can't criticize people for theLilo and Stitch thing without
actually reading into contextmyself.
And basically, they said theyhave a plan the way they want to
end the story.
But if for some reason they needmore episodes to finish that
story instead of cramming themin, that might be a reason why
(35:25):
they would do more.
Because I don't think, while itwins awards, Daniel, I don't
think it's one of the heavyhitters for Max.
Like, I think that...
like most people assume becauseit cleaned up at the awards, it
was probably going to get aseason five, but it's not
bringing in the numbers thatgemstones brought in or like
white Lotus by any stretch, oreven the last of us.
It's nowhere near those type ofviewership numbers.
(35:47):
I'm pretty sure.
So for now, yeah, I'm going togo with hacks.
Well, there
SPEAKER_01 (35:50):
you have it folks.
We are a split decision in thehouse.
If you're not familiar, ifyou're newer here, if you're not
familiar, the best thing goingis how we kind of kick this
podcast off and declaring a showas the best thing going.
And I think this is the firsttime, we've been a split
decision on the best thing goingusually we've been in alignment
but but right now backups yeahbut right now I think you know
(36:12):
for me it's severance for youit's hacks I
SPEAKER_00 (36:14):
mean what do you
think about hacks I told you
that I still think severance islike a brilliantly done show but
I gave my reason why I wouldpick hacks over it what are your
thoughts on hacks
SPEAKER_01 (36:23):
I think hacks is
excellent it's well written it's
funny but it's got the dramaticelements it's absolutely a great
show just for me I'm for me whenit comes to the best thing going
going Severance is just theretaking up all of my mind space
whenever I think about it tryingto understand what may or may
not happen in the next season sothat's kind of how I judge the
(36:44):
best thing going
SPEAKER_00 (36:44):
well you know what's
far far miles miles miles miles
from the best thing going
SPEAKER_01 (36:52):
And just like that.
SPEAKER_00 (36:55):
We're back for
another season.
Season three.
This is one of those showsthat's like, and I love how
you're into this.
You're in this with me.
We're in this together.
No one's leaving this.
So it's one of those shows thatI'm going to watch it.
I'm going to hate it.
(37:15):
And then I'll be like, I'll seeyou next week.
But
SPEAKER_01 (37:18):
this season three,
episode one, premiere in
particular held me hostage.
I felt like the guy from AClockwork Orange with his
eyeballs pinned open, having towatch, not able to look away
even though I wanted to so, sovery
SPEAKER_00 (37:35):
badly.
I feel victimized by thisopener.
First off, let's just get tothe, it was all over the place.
All
SPEAKER_01 (37:40):
over the place.
SPEAKER_00 (37:41):
All over, like
Carrie running around in her
huge apartment.
You
SPEAKER_01 (37:45):
know how sometimes
we're in a show where you've got
multiple storylines going on andan episode is showing you those
multiple storylines.
Sometimes you don't.
But they weave together in waysor there's mirrors and there's
analogies.
All that stuff is going on.
This was just like, here's whatthis person's doing and it has
nothing to do with what thisperson's doing.
(38:06):
And here's Aiden in his truckout in Virginia cranking it out.
Oh,
SPEAKER_00 (38:14):
gosh.
That was traumatizing.
But you know what?
At least people are finally onmy level with Aiden.
It's taken 20-some years.
Everybody always put this man ona pedestal, and I thought, and
even when I go back, I noticed,Aiden is a walking red flag, and
he always has been.
Did he deserve for him to becheated on?
No.
But people are like, oh, hedidn't become a red flag.
(38:36):
For some of the people that comearound to it, they're like, he
didn't become a red flag untilthey got back together after
Carrie cheated.
Nuh-uh.
Even OG Aiden was like, oh, youcan't smoke anymore and was like
already trying to changeeverything about Carrie to fit
his mold.
I think he just was attracted toher and he was just trying to
like make him into something shewasn't.
The entire time Aiden has been ared flag.
(38:56):
Now I will...
Go ahead and give you Aidenlovers this, because I think
some people are like, this isnot the Aiden I remember.
They have taken those red flagsand made him the most
cringeworthy, awful character.
This cannot be her endgame.
First off, we ended season twowith that stupid, let's wait
five years crap.
SPEAKER_01 (39:14):
Bring back Burger.
SPEAKER_00 (39:16):
Honestly.
SPEAKER_01 (39:17):
Bring back Burger.
I...
SPEAKER_00 (39:20):
hated burger and the
way he broke up with her but i
do felt like i did feel like hewas carrie's like opposite like
her counterpart they were verymuch alike in their mannerisms
the way they behave the way theyacted and at this point i would
rather burger give her 5 000post-it notes and have to watch
aiden in a vehicle doing what hedid first he
SPEAKER_01 (39:41):
licked his
SPEAKER_00 (39:42):
hand yeah I hated it
make it stop so they have
they're not obviously doing thisno contact for five years should
be no contact first off they'reacting like Carrie is like in
her 90s she's what like in her50s she's not even that old she
still could live a vibrant lifeand I don't know and I think she
just is like scared to death tolose Aiden I think she's
(40:03):
honestly still dealing with thetrauma of Biggs passing and that
she has this familiarity andcomfort with Aiden and is just
trying to make that her happyending desperately because just
Carrie has come off not greateither and so they're sending
each other postcards he'ssending her ones of like places
and she's sending them back withhearts but they're not supposed
(40:24):
to talk i guess unless it's onadon in his terms drunk in a
field in virginia and then helike what does he do he like
SPEAKER_01 (40:30):
cranking it
SPEAKER_00 (40:32):
he like accidentally
hits the horn he's like oh i
think i just pooped my pants alittle bit and then he's waiting
to continue to do you know thephone naughtiness phone
SPEAKER_01 (40:41):
sex you just say
phone sex we're adults we're all
adults here it's phone sexthey're They're having phone
sex.
It's disgusting.
It's gross.
Usually in any kind of media, when you're seeing people do
phone sex, you're like, oh,they're starting to do the phone
sex.
And then they cut away tosomething else.
And they just showed us
SPEAKER_00 (40:58):
the whole thing.
And with all the scenes they hadin this episode that they could
have switched to, why did wehave to witness that?
Carrie, though, her catinterrupted her.
She still has her kitten.
Thank God.
So Carrie just had to pretend.
For that
SPEAKER_02 (41:11):
cat.
SPEAKER_00 (41:11):
It was awful.
But then Carrie later calls himback in the episode.
And he's like, oh, I can't talkright now.
And I was like, oh my gosh.
I was like, is he in bed with awoman?
And then it was made even worsebecause he's in bed with one of
his goblin, almost adult-agedstupid kids.
I'm like, who is sleeping withtheir parent at this age?
SPEAKER_01 (41:30):
It explains why he
has to go out to his truck in
the middle of the night to crankone
SPEAKER_00 (41:32):
out.
Stop saying that! It was awful.
It was awful.
And mind you, Daniel, you're oneof the people that started
tuning in and got locked intothis ride with me because you
wanted to see the return ofAiden.
You've since come around.
around to me that Aiden is awalking red flag, correct?
Yes.
And always has been?
SPEAKER_01 (41:48):
Yes.
SPEAKER_00 (41:49):
I'm not saying, this
doesn't mean that I thought Big
was perfect either.
SPEAKER_01 (41:52):
Did anything else
happen in this episode?
SPEAKER_00 (41:54):
Well, Carrie wore an
absolutely horrendous hat.
Wait, wait, wait.
SPEAKER_01 (41:58):
It's funny.
Because it's bigger than aregular
SPEAKER_00 (42:01):
hat.
Sex and the City was alwaysknown for their wild fashion,
and now I think they're reallyleaning into that, but they
didn't have to try in theoriginal series.
It just fit.
This is called, we're tryingreally hard, because I thought
that Lisa, Charlotte's friend, her big balls necklace,
basically beach balls on herneck.
I don't know what it was.
(42:22):
I thought that was going to bethe worst fashion, and then
Carrie has this huge bonnet.
Then we've gotten rid of thecharacter of Che, which,
honestly, I think it was Mirandathat made Che an awful character
because Miranda was so terriblein all of Miranda's actions
SPEAKER_01 (42:41):
did they
SPEAKER_00 (42:41):
like
SPEAKER_01 (42:43):
did Che get a send
off last season I don't remember
or is it just like
SPEAKER_00 (42:48):
and just like that I
don't remember either
SPEAKER_01 (42:52):
okay fair okay
SPEAKER_00 (42:53):
fine but so we've
gotten rid of Che and now Rosie
O'Donnell shows up in a lesbianbar, not as Rosie O'Donnell, as
Sister Mary, a nun.
But Miranda doesn't know thatRosie, that Mary is a nun.
My baby's a virgin.
Is a virgin, like the VirginMary.
(43:13):
And Miranda, first she, Mirandathinks that she's being hit on
by Brady's old babysitter.
Like, Miranda, you can't pullsomeone that hot, please.
So Miranda's like, she's like,sure.
Was
SPEAKER_01 (43:24):
she hot?
I didn't even notice.
SPEAKER_00 (43:28):
And They wake up in
bed and Sister Mary's like, oh,
that was my first time.
And Miranda's like, oh, firsttime with a woman?
She's like, no, first time ingeneral.
I'm a nun.
What?
I feel like you're
SPEAKER_01 (43:41):
breaking some nun
rules.
SPEAKER_00 (43:43):
We have some other
shenanigans with texting.
And Rosie's character is like, meet me at Times Square.
I'm going to go see Wicked.
Yeah, she's hitting up all ofthe New York City tourist traps.
And I knew what was about tocome.
I was like, oh my gosh.
I was like, is she going to dothis?
And then they have to ruin oneof the most beautiful songs from
(44:03):
Wicked.
And Miranda's just like, youknow, I'm not really in a
relationship place.
And Mary's like, no, you'vehelped me.
You've changed.
me and then she's like because Iknew you I have been changed for
good and the whole wicked outfitwith the fun of Times Square and
I guess they even had Mirandacome out and say like I'm a
(44:24):
lesbian now which is fine but Iwhy can't Miranda be bi?
I'm not saying Miranda needs tobe with a man.
I just feel like bisexualrepresentation on TV is just
almost non-existent at thispoint.
And there's an episode, I'mgoing to reference two episodes
from the original series, whereone, Miranda did question her
sexuality, and yes, people canchange, and went on a date with
(44:46):
a woman, didn't work out, shesaid she liked men, whatever.
I'm not saying she can't change.
She's obviously open to change.
I always thought that Miranda'sconnection with Che was more
of...
a person type connection.
And now Miranda's like, oh, I'mjust a full lesbian now.
Now, the other episode that I'mgoing to reference on Sex and
the City, I actually rewatchedthis one fairly recently.
(45:08):
It had, I don't know, the guy,Rachel's assistant, Tag, that
actor.
That's all I ever think of himas.
Oh, I
SPEAKER_01 (45:14):
remember.
Yeah, I remember that
SPEAKER_00 (45:14):
episode.
He was a bisexual guy thatCarrie went out with and Carrie
was so weird about it.
Like, first you think she'sgoing to be chill, and watching
back that episode, it's reallyproblematic.
Maybe it's just problematic fromthe lens of, you know, 2025.
And this would have been theperfect opportunity for Sex and
the City and In Just Like That,a show that tries to be, quote
(45:35):
unquote, I hate using thisphrase, but woke, that tries to
be evolved, to actually beevolved and show some bi
representation.
Yeah.
And they just didn't.
And I'm really disappointed thatthey're not having Miranda like
proclaim to be like bisexualbecause I feel like.
I don't think there's a lot ofrepresentation for bisexuals on
(45:56):
TV.
And why would you not take anopportunity that would fit in
organically to do this?
I find it, especially when youhave that, which a lot of fans
have pointed out, how, like, ickand problematic that episode was
where Carrie dated the bi manand her reactions to it.
SPEAKER_01 (46:11):
Just like everything
else with this show, they miss
opportunity left and right.
And it all feels forced.
SPEAKER_00 (46:17):
When they were in
the lesbian bar, though, enter
Chapel Roan.
SPEAKER_01 (46:21):
Yeah, yeah, of
course, yeah.
Of course they're playing ChapelRoan.
Why wouldn't they?
It's like everything in thisshow just feels so forced.
SPEAKER_00 (46:28):
And all the kids are
awful.
They're just terrible children.
And they're all like...
And I feel like Charlotte is agreat mom.
I forgot about her storyline.
Her kids treat her like
SPEAKER_01 (46:36):
crap.
All Charlotte does this episodeis try and figure out why her
dog is being blacklisted in theelite west side...
I don't even know.
Upper east side.
Upper east side elite dogsitting community of New York.
The thing about Charlotte,though,
SPEAKER_00 (46:53):
her character is...
is the one that is mostly thesame as she was before, but has
also grown.
And I feel like Charlotte is myfavorite on In Just Like That.
And then we had...
Do you think Michelle Obama'sgoing to show up this
SPEAKER_02 (47:07):
season?
No.
SPEAKER_00 (47:08):
Okay.
I don't really have anythingelse to say other than this show
is horrible.
I'm going to keep watching it.
SPEAKER_01 (47:15):
If I have to watch
another phone sex scene
involving
SPEAKER_00 (47:20):
Aiden...
I think Aiden's in like sixepisodes, dude.
SPEAKER_01 (47:22):
I'm going to throw
up.
SPEAKER_00 (47:24):
I'm sure you'll see
him in his tighty-whities again.
SPEAKER_01 (47:28):
The tighty-whities.
SPEAKER_00 (47:29):
The hand-spitting
was too much.
I'm so like...
A bridge too far.
I
SPEAKER_01 (47:34):
don't know how I
ended up having to watch this
episode.
If I have to, you have to.
The last two seasons, I did notwatch every episode of this
show.
And I did not know how I endedup roped into this.
SPEAKER_00 (47:44):
If I have to suffer,
you have to suffer.
I want to be done talking aboutthis.
SPEAKER_01 (47:51):
Speaking of
suffering...
SPEAKER_00 (47:53):
It's a good show.
SPEAKER_01 (47:54):
I watched one
episode of this show and bounced
out and told you exactly what itwas all about, and I got it
completely right, and I amproud.
You
SPEAKER_00 (48:02):
didn't get it
completely right.
You thought it was about copsirens.
Wait.
SPEAKER_01 (48:07):
That's not what I
said.
Or
SPEAKER_00 (48:11):
EMS.
SPEAKER_01 (48:12):
That's not what I
said.
SPEAKER_00 (48:13):
Yes, it
SPEAKER_01 (48:15):
is.
First of all, the show is onNetflix, and it's called Sirens.
Is it a show?
Is it a miniseries?
It's Julian Moore.
They're like, what, fiveepisodes?
SPEAKER_00 (48:22):
They called it a
limited series.
So five episodes.
I think it's one of those thingswhere they probably wanted to do
a movie, realized they had morecontent, and then put it in a
show.
They marketed it.
All the previews for it made itseem very mythological.
So I'm like, oh, Sirens.
I'm like, when are the mermaidsshowing up?
I thought it was about mermaids.
(48:42):
We were both wrong!
SPEAKER_01 (48:43):
When you made that
joke, I said, oh, it's probably
just about firemen or something.
It wasn't.
So you get the first stinger atSirens.
And then as soon as they getpast that stinger scene, cut
to...
SPEAKER_00 (48:55):
It's because Devin's
getting out of jail and that's
why you hear a cop car.
A siren
SPEAKER_01 (48:59):
on a cop car.
I was right.
SPEAKER_00 (49:01):
No, you're not.
And then I
SPEAKER_01 (49:02):
watched the first
episode and I said, this isn't
about mermaids.
Not a single mermaid is going toshow up in
SPEAKER_00 (49:08):
this show.
I kept thinking maybe themermaids would be revealed.
And I was correct.
I loved it.
I thought it was great.
It was weird.
And I like that they made youthink the whole time up until
the end that some kind ofsupernatural force was at play
when realized...
When really you realize thatit's just men are trash,
honestly.
(49:29):
Because you make you thinkyou're like, maybe all these
three women.
Because we have Julianne Moore'scharacter.
Her name's Michaela.
She's married to Kevin Bacon'scharacter.
They're super rich.
They have this fancy beach home.
And her assistant is Simone.
I just know her as the girlfrom...
She's young, Rhaenyra Targaryen,House of Dragons.
(49:49):
And then we've got Devon.
She was in White Lotus Season 2.
SPEAKER_01 (49:53):
No memory.
SPEAKER_00 (49:55):
She was like a major
character in it.
She was married to Theo James'character.
SPEAKER_01 (49:58):
Don't care.
SPEAKER_00 (50:00):
You liked White
Lotus.
Yeah.
You just don't remember?
I just don't remember at all.
Anyway, she's playing Devin.
She's another sister.
And she's taking care of theirdad, which has had a lot of
problems.
He has, like, Alzheimer's.
He's kind of losing it.
And she's trying to go findSimone.
She texted her sirens.
That's, like, their sister code.
Like, come help.
And Simone sends an ediblearrangement, which I love edible
(50:24):
arrangements, by the way.
Those are so good.
Do you like a good ediblearrangement?
SPEAKER_01 (50:28):
I like fruit.
SPEAKER_00 (50:31):
You don't think
edible arrangements are cute and
delicious?
SPEAKER_01 (50:34):
I don't need it to
be cute as long
SPEAKER_00 (50:37):
as it's delicious.
Well, I like it to be cute.
So Devin's like super tickedabout it.
She's like, I'm going to go findmy sister, drag her butt back
home.
And she gets there and she'slike, oh, my sister's in a cult.
Because we've got Michaela,Julianne Moore's character.
She like has a bird sanctuary.
She does this thing like, hey, hey, at their meetings.
(50:58):
It's just kind of the...
The vibes are off.
So I'm like, oh, maybe JulianneMoore is the mermaid.
Then I started thinking thatmaybe both the sisters had
mermaid powers and didn't knowit.
Turns out
SPEAKER_01 (51:08):
it's just rich
people BS.
SPEAKER_00 (51:09):
Yeah, pretty much.
And at one point you see Devin, her boss that she was sleeping
with, brings her dad down.
Dennis
SPEAKER_01 (51:19):
from, oh, I'm sorry,
excuse me.
SPEAKER_00 (51:22):
Dennis is the one
sleeping with Simone.
Did I say Simone?
SPEAKER_01 (51:25):
Yeah.
SPEAKER_00 (51:25):
I didn't say Devin?
SPEAKER_01 (51:27):
Well, maybe you did.
I don't know.
SPEAKER_00 (51:28):
Dennis from Always
Sunny is one of the rich
neighbors that is sleeping withthe younger sister, Simone.
Okay.
Devin...
boss that she slept with that'smarried is a different guy from
Buffalo where they live
SPEAKER_01 (51:42):
oh okay yeah
SPEAKER_00 (51:44):
and at one point
Devin's like please leave me
alone just go into the water andthen you he disappears and we
think oh my gosh did she makehim go into the water and at one
point Dennis from Always Sunnyfalls off a one of the cliffs
and we're like did Simone makehim do it did all these women
make them do that no becauseboth of them are alive and well
the reason why Dennisdisappeared which he he does
(52:06):
well he did disappear to go gether dad and then the reason why
he like fell off the cliff wasjust because he was clumsy and
drunk um unless you think Simonepushed him I don't think she
lured him off the cliff oranything and Devin it was just
Ray got like really drunk andupset so basically the three
women they are known for drawingmen in but they're also vilified
(52:28):
by men seen as casting a spelllike what sirens would do um
There's a scene where one of thecharacters is walking down the
beach with three guys trailingher.
So that's kind of like whypeople might think Supernatural.
But really, honestly, it's...
It's just like the takeaway.
(52:48):
I've done some screenshots so Ican remember what I said.
Are you getting the, he's gayand it's all you're thinking of
as I'm mumbling?
But it has a
SPEAKER_01 (52:56):
deep connection to
classical music.
Sorry.
Many things that are
SPEAKER_00 (52:59):
in there.
I had to pull up my notes.
The main takeaway that I had wasthat the sirens were never out
to destroy men, the three women.
They were just beautiful and mendestroyed themselves in order to
possess them at all costs.
And when that fun fades, theyturn around and then blame the
sirens.
You see all the men.
You see...
Dennis get mad at Simone.
(53:19):
You see Ray get mad at Devin.
You see Kevin Bacon's character.
I think his name's like Peter.
I just call him Kevin Bacon.
It's Kevin Bacon.
Come on.
He gets mad at Michaela.
And really the only mistake thatthe Sirens made was believing
that the men would uphold theirpromises.
So basically, Peter did try toput the moves on Simone.
That's Michaela's assistant, theyounger sister.
And she's rejected him.
(53:42):
But somehow the Voguephotographers were there
because, again, rich people gotthe photos and Michaela's like
you're fired and so you think atone point that Simone's finally
going to go home with Devin takecare of the dad she because she
said no to the proposal and yousee her running on the beach and
for context their dad wasterrible especially to Simone he
(54:03):
didn't feed her he let herstarve he forgot about her so
she had a very traumaticchildhood and Devin was at
college during all of this andthat's why Devin I think feels
so guilty to come back and takecare she would eventually come
back and take care of her sisterand while she's kind of, Devin's
kind of sacrificing what shewould be doing to take care of
the dad.
So we see, the younger sisterhas really been through it.
(54:24):
I mean, when you don't get fedas a kid and you get basically
ignored It's a traumatic story.
So you think she's going to goback.
She doesn't.
She realizes that Michaela isnever going to accept her again.
And she's just like, you knowwhat?
Fine, Peter.
So suddenly Peter, who– andthere was no prenup, by the way,
that Peter and Michaela had.
He left his first wife forMichaela, who was his lawyer,
(54:46):
and said the only way you getany money is if you have kids.
But she never had kids.
And he pretty much says, hey,we're done.
Get out.
And he– you see at the end whereSimone's in the fancy dresses,
in the clothes, going– hey heyand she's like the new kind of
queen bee and then devon justrealizes like she's lost her
sister forever but also i thinkloki understands it why because
(55:07):
simone was so traumatized that'swhat she did to have to survive
so a lot of people didn't reallylike the ending because it kind
of just ended like oh the onesister stayed kind of is the new
villain and then you've gotmichaela on the boat then uh
devon's asking her about thewhole hey hey cult like thing
and she's like that's justsomething dumb i said to my rich
friends and they all just boughtit so i kept saying it so yeah
(55:27):
that's it was a really goodpiece about how men blame women
on their problems and would itbe how like sirens lure their
victims to death so it wasn'tabout mermaids a little
disappointed in that but theyhad me thinking at one point
that their dad was like lured inby Michaela as a mermaid at some
point because he was like I knowyou and then you realize nope
he's just crazy he's gotAlzheimer's and he's sundowning
(55:48):
so it took a very realistic endand I think a lot of people were
annoyed because Simone basicallyended as like a villain but was
she a villain she was trying tosurvive peter is the real
villain in my opinion kevinbacon
SPEAKER_01 (56:03):
every time you say
devon i just go devon levin
SPEAKER_00 (56:07):
from the middle
SPEAKER_01 (56:08):
yeah
SPEAKER_00 (56:08):
well that is a
throwback yeah devon levin is
the niece of frankie's hairperson's cousin something
SPEAKER_01 (56:16):
yeah that's all i
got to say about the show um All
right.
One more here for the agenda.
We did finish up season four ofGhosts.
Is this season
SPEAKER_00 (56:25):
four?
I don't remember what season itis.
I don't know, man.
I don't know.
SPEAKER_01 (56:28):
This is like a nice
filler show when we don't have
anything else going on.
SPEAKER_00 (56:32):
I feel like we
haven't talked about the end of
it.
If we did, we're going to talkabout it again.
We don't remember.
The show ends with Jay making adeal with the devil unknowingly.
because he wanted to like helppromote the restaurant or
something.
So now that was our cliffhangerwas like, is Jay going to be
dragged off to hell?
That's it.
I'm excited.
(56:52):
I agree with you.
Ghost is a nice filler show.
It's nice to let those episodesstack.
One of the things I canappreciate with Ghost is that I
do get my 20 plus episodeseasons, which is just
absolutely missing in the worldof streaming.
And it's just nice to let thoseepisodes, you know, accumulate,
get up to like five or six onthere, go in, watch them.
So go check out Ghost if youhaven't.
(57:13):
Just do it.
SPEAKER_01 (57:14):
It's got at least
four seasons now.
And I think last season wasslightly short because of the
strike.
But for the most part, they're20-episode seasons.
So at this point, if you need amindless comedy that's fine at
best, Ghost will get you throughwhatever problems you're
SPEAKER_00 (57:32):
having in your life
right now.
Watch Ghost instead of Just LikeThat unless you want to be
tortured.
SPEAKER_01 (57:37):
Well, ladies and
gentlemen...
Boys and girls, people of allages, sizes, and...
Epcot-ians.
That's it for today.
Next week, we've got an episodeas well, believe it or not.
We're going to talk about acouple other shows that we've
watched, but we didn't reallywant to squeeze them in here
because we will be talking aboutthe full season of them.
(57:59):
So we did watch Apple TV's TheStudio and Netflix's The Four
Seasons.
SPEAKER_00 (58:04):
So go watch those so
you can hear us talk about it
next week.
SPEAKER_01 (58:07):
And we'll also be
doing a bit of a mid-year kind
of wrap-up on Netflix dumped abunch of dates on us and a
couple other places have givenus more firm dates about when
their shows are going.
So we're going to kind of wrapthat up next week.
SPEAKER_00 (58:22):
We usually do.
kind of twice a year about whatwe're looking forward to now
that we have some of thoseconcrete dates.
We can chat about that.
Is this like my videoed off?
I can't do it
SPEAKER_03 (58:37):
like
SPEAKER_00 (58:37):
you.
