Hope and Daniel also share their thoughts on two of their favorite current shows, The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3 and Star Trek Strange New Worlds season 3. And Just Like That is finally coming to an end for good, so Hope and Daniel give their review on the latest round of episodes. And she's like sun creambecause the hand guy brought the

So the other two books arenamed something different, but
they called the series TheSummer I Turned Pretty.
We got season one all at once,and they kind of incorporated
some elements of the other booksinto season one because they

weren't sure that it was goingto massively blow up and be such
a hit.
I mean, the books are supereasy.
I think I read the first bookin like a day.
this is a rare one of the rareinstances where I can say and I
think I've said this before thatI do like the show better than
the book I think belly yes thatis her name her name is Isabel
but they call her belly for somereason I don't know why they

don't call her Izzy I think Iknow she's quirky she's not like
other girls I don't know theycall her belly and pork belly
correct on that oh don't callher that um but belly in the
show and I've seen peoplecomplain about her and yes she
did really tick me off in thelast episode which I'll get to
in a minute but she is more oflike agency she's more She's a

better character, I feel like,in the show than she is the
books.
And if you are just a showwatcher, you might be like, oh
my gosh, really?
Yes.
And I think a lot of that isbecause the actress, Lola Tan,
is such a good actress.
And they've given Belly alittle bit more depth.
All the characters, I think,have gotten a little bit more
depth than what we got in thebooks.
and almost and it's just it'sone of those rare instances that

like some of the stuff becausethe books are pretty like
juvenile and like some of theplot points they've changed a
little bit um to make the showbetter to make it more like a
show and Jenny Han who wrote thebooks also does the show so
that fits so anyway we got thefirst two episodes which I
believe you said this is I thinkwe it's finishing on I think
September 17th will be the lastepisode so we got the first two

episodes and then it's thepainful weekly release and it is
a painful I need to know why.
In shows like this where I amgetting limited episodes, why
are you giving me fillerepisodes?
Why did I have to wait in thelast episode like over 20
minutes for Conrad to be on myscreen?
That is stupid.

I'm fine with filler episodeswhen it's 20 plus seasons.
This is dumb.
One of the things that theyhave done this season and they
have chosen to give some othercharacters like Taylor's mom.
One, Taylor is in the books buther character is very different
on the show and I didn't likeher in the So I do like her
better in the show.
But I really don't care abouther and her mom and her mom

losing her salon.
And I don't care about Steven'snew co-worker.
I don't care about thesecharacters.
They serve no purpose.
I don't need them wastingscreen time.
So that's my biggest complaintso far about the season is...
Why are we doing this?
I'm really here to see thebelly Jeremiah Conrad story.
We're really belly Conradbecause Jeremiah.

am a book reader obviously Iknow how the books end I am
fully confident the show isgoing to end the way the books

and Conrad together because itis their story all right so

they got back together.

is key as a book reader one ofthe things I hope they would

change was the wedding plotbecause she and Jeremiah get
like engaged and the only thingthey changed about it is instead
of like the two-year time jumpwe got a four-year time jump so
they're 20 I think he's like 22she's 21 Jeremiah party too much
couldn't be bothered to read anemail and now he's gonna have
to repeat his senior or takethat repeat a senior year of
college but he's gonna have tobe a super senior and basically

like stay for one more semesterbelly has one more year of
school left and I like some ofthe rare jellyfish.
That's what their ship name is.
Belly Jeremiah fans are like, Idon't see why everybody's.

I don't see why everyone'sfreaking out about this.
And like, I feel like LaurelBelly's mom was like, you know,

very young, but we were donewith school.
We weren't like we were in themiddle of school.
And this is clearly was anengagement after we had our we
have ourselves a Ross Rachelsituation.

and Jeremiah.

Back to the characters.
We have a Ross Rachel typesituation on our hands with a
break.
That did happen in the books.
One of the things I thought forthe show, I thought the show
might change that a little bit.
Because in the books, it wasalmost like, oh, wow, like,
Jeremiah's so, like...
immature you find out once heand belly get together she sees

this other side of him she hadreally only seen like the fun
beachy vacation at theircousin's beach every summer
that's the name of the beachthey're not cousins it's got
cousin's beach so don't besnarky daniel and i thought that
they might like actually goeasier on jeremiah's character
since they're trying to make ita mystery and there are a lot of
people that do like those twotogether no they went harder at

(20:32):
it like they made it worse theymade the whole like cheating i
don't I personally wouldconsider it cheating and I was
always on Rachel's side toobecause to me if you truly love
somebody so much like thatyou're not going to go out and
like sleep with the first thingthat you see within five
seconds.
So whatever you want to do Idon't you know argue argue with

that what you want that's stilla very hurtful thing.
So Jeremiah in the books onlylike cheated like one time like
he hooked up with the sameperson twice and And Cabo in the
show.
And they're just making it wayworse.
They made the proposal wayworse.
Because they had Steven get inan accident.
He's fine.
So he like proposes to her likeoutside of the hospital.
Like talk about emotionalmanipulation.

Like it's just.
And I feel like with thefandom.
That most people are on theright side of history.
Team Conrad.
Because it's ultimately theirstory.
Like Belly is still in lovewith Conrad.
Duh.
Like they still.
Like there's still feelingsthere.
And.
A lot of the people that likeJeremiah, I think like him
because the actor's cute.

And it's just like a lot ofyounger kids, like people that
are watching it not with likelife experience.
I haven't seen a lot ofgrownups that like that ship.
So whatever.
I think they're like, I wasactually surprised.
That's my biggest take.
I was like, wow, they're goingworse on Jeremiah than I
thought.
Then I thought, then theyactually had him be supportive
about Belly getting a summerabroad, not a summer, a year

abroad in Paris.
And they flipped that in thelast episode where Belly was
like, you know what?
I don't want to leave you.
I think I'm going to stay.
And he's like, oh, good.
I want you to stay.
And I'm like, oh.

So I respect that from a plotperspective, but that's still

there was still fun stuff in it,really rebounded nicely.
And then, of course, the mostrecent episode we watched, four,
was hilarious.
Before I get into what I reallywant to talk about Star Trek,
what do you have to say?

I'm happy with the season so far.
Like I said last week, I'venever been a huge fan of the
second part of a two-partepisode, particularly when that
happens to be like part one wasthe finale of a season and part
two is the start of a newseason.
And they make you wait, likewhat, two years?

It's just, I don't know.
I don't feel like I've everbeen fully satisfied with the

conclusion of the part two.

And it really felt very muchlike that's what it meant to
people in the 60s, what StarTrek meant to people in the 60s
and 70s and 80s and 90s whenpeople were watching it.
And so I thought that it wasreally well done.
