In this episode of We Watch TV, Hope and Daniel react to the opening weekend of college football before diving into the latest drama in their The Summer I Turned Vulcan series aka season 3 of both The Summer I Turned Pretty and Star Trek Strange New Worlds. Hope also reacted to the yeehaw version of The Summer I Turned Pretty: Netflix’s My Life With the Walter Boys season two. Brother love triangle? Classic tv trope. SPEAKER_00 (00:00):
What is BIP?

SPEAKER_02 (00:02):
Bachelor in Paradise.

SPEAKER_00 (00:04):
We have to just abbreviate everything.

SPEAKER_02 (00:07):
Yes.

SPEAKER_00 (00:21):
Hey, everybody, and welcome to We Watch TV.
It is the podcast about the TVthat we watch.
I am Daniel.
She is Hope.
This is episode 115.
Marvin, go lay down.
Quit.
Get out of my face.
Anyways...

SPEAKER_01 (00:40):
He loves his daddy.

SPEAKER_00 (00:42):
Yeah.
You know what he doesn't love?
We have a chicken now.

SPEAKER_01 (00:48):
And we have a goose.

SPEAKER_00 (00:50):
Okay.
I don't think you can just...
The goose is concrete now.
Yeah, you can't just say that.

SPEAKER_02 (00:55):
Her name is Miss Goose.
But now we have Miss Chicken, areal chicken.

SPEAKER_00 (00:59):
The chicken is real, as in...
So I was...
I'm going to say this.
I find it really funny.

SPEAKER_02 (01:05):
This is about the seventh time I've heard this
joke.

SPEAKER_00 (01:08):
I find it funny.
I know nobody else does.
It was funny the first time.
I was driving out to get foodthe other day, and the chicken
ran across the road.
And into the woods next to ourhouse.
And ever since then, allthroughout the day, the chicken
hangs out in our yard next tothe woods, pecking, doing

(01:29):
whatever chickens do.
And I'm not feeding the chicken.

SPEAKER_02 (01:36):
It's ours now.
I think I'm going

SPEAKER_00 (01:38):
to go buy some chicken feed.
I don't house the chicken, butthe chicken has taken up
residence in my yard.

SPEAKER_02 (01:43):
Miss Chicken.

SPEAKER_00 (01:45):
That's a terrible name for a chicken.

SPEAKER_02 (01:47):
What do you want to call her?
A clucker?
I

SPEAKER_00 (01:48):
don't want to call it...
I don't want to call the chickenanything because I'm not keeping
the chicken.
It's not mine.

SPEAKER_01 (01:56):
What about Estelle?

SPEAKER_00 (01:57):
How about KFC?

SPEAKER_01 (02:00):
No.

SPEAKER_00 (02:01):
Rotisserie.

SPEAKER_02 (02:05):
You know, speaking of chicken, Wayne's.
Buffalo Wild Wayne's.
What do you think of when youthink of Wayne's football?
Football season is here.
It has arrived.
If you want to talk 30 moreminutes about our chicken, go
for it.
But I'm trying to get us throughthis episode.

SPEAKER_00 (02:25):
I was going to talk 30 more minutes about the
chicken, but whatever.
Hey, Bill Belichick's team lostreally, really, really bad.

SPEAKER_02 (02:32):
Yeah, they did.
I

SPEAKER_00 (02:36):
don't know if this is true.
So I might be just talkingcompletely out of my butt right
now.
But I feel like North CarolinaTar Heels football fans are like
Kentucky...
football fans in that they don'tcare about their football team

SPEAKER_02 (02:55):
and don't root for their actual...
Root for the basketball team andthen root for somebody

SPEAKER_00 (02:59):
like Ohio State or like Georgia.
Every Kentucky basketball fan Iknow does not root for Kentucky
basketball or football.
They root for some otherfootball team.
I know one

SPEAKER_02 (03:09):
person that roots for both and I think it's
because they went there to

SPEAKER_00 (03:12):
school.
I wonder if that's the casebecause they all showed up and
packed that stadium to watchBill Belichick drop that
terrible game on

SPEAKER_02 (03:19):
them.
Between the media his waxing onabout him and then laying it
real thick for Arch Manning ohmy gosh I mean and both lost so
sorry John Paul that Texas I'mnot did not win yeah I don't
really understand though back toBill Belichick like I get the
whole Arch Manning like thefamily legacy I didn't I don't
know why we had like actually hewas the greatest player of all

(03:42):
time just because of his familyname that was laying on a little
thick and like a lot of pressureespecially when he was you know
at an opposing field But thewhole like Bill Belichick thing.
Do I think Bill Belichick is agood coach?
Of course.
Yes.
You'd be a foolish if you saidotherwise.
Do I think Bill Belichick wouldbe revered the way he is if it

(04:04):
wasn't for a certain man namedTom Brady?
No, I do not.
I remember I'm going to walk.
Let's everybody want to walkback in time when Tom Brady left
the Patriots and went to TampaBay, right?

SPEAKER_03 (04:17):
Yes.

SPEAKER_02 (04:17):
Tampa Bay.
And I remember having aconversation with my co-host
sitting right across from meDaniel Rashlet was like well
we'll see how good Tom Brady iswithout Bill Belichick and I was
like no I think it's the otherway around I was like Tom Brady
is like what made that team sogood because regardless of your
thoughts on Tom Brady like himhate him whatever the man is the

(04:38):
goat there hasn't been I don'tthink Patrick Mahomes is at that
level yet at all he's Tom Bradyand I think that Bill Belichick
owes a lot of his career to TomBrady you could be like oh they
made each other better sure butthat's one thing that I've never
really quite understood thewhole like I definitely fall in

(04:59):
the line of like he wouldn'thave as many wins with the
Patriots if he had not had TomBrady on his team

SPEAKER_00 (05:05):
I mean I think you could say that of every single
coach in the league that it wasa combination of their coaching
but also being fortunate enoughto have the right couple of
players at the right moment

SPEAKER_02 (05:17):
not everybody said that there was a lot of people
when Brady left that includingyou.
I was like, we'll see.

SPEAKER_00 (05:22):
Okay, we didn't know.
Hey, we didn't know.
And we saw.
And we found out.

SPEAKER_02 (05:26):
And I was right.
Yeah.
But the better team, speaking ofLA, let's get the things out of
the way.
So we had game day.
That was fun.
We got to watch a little bit ofit.
Got my first pumpkin cream cobraof the season.
I do like to watch game day.
It is fun.
Even though, you know, they haveso many wrong opinions half the
time.
I'm going to say that I thoughtthe Ohio State-Texas game was a

(05:47):
little boring.
I think people expected more,but...
I think it was definitely likejitters for both sides, but I
disagree.
You told me there's an argumentthat people have been making
that everybody should play acupcake.
No.
I

SPEAKER_00 (05:59):
saw a bunch of people online complaining about
the Ohio State-Texas game, saying they wish it was the
second or even third game of theseason instead of the kickoff
game.

SPEAKER_02 (06:07):
We have to start something fun, and both of those
teams are going to be just fine.
CJ Donaldson, formerMountaineer, got the first score
for Ohio State.
You're welcome.
It's amazing when you don't havea bum for a coach.
who was, I guess, helping outthe Texas team, which we didn't
even bring that up when wetalked to John Powell.
He looked like he rode on thereon his bike.

(06:28):
Anyway, it's nice to see CJdoing good things.
I think it's really stupid whenpeople are like, what a traitor.
He's being utilized.
Whatever.
Do I wish he would have stayed?
Sure.
But that game was not thatthrilling to me.
What about you?

SPEAKER_00 (06:45):
I mean, we only really watched the first half
before we checked out for theWVU game, but I I am probably a
minority of football watchers inthat I can sit and watch a game
that's like 3-0, 7-0, and beentertained if the defense is
actually playing well and it'snot just two offenses that suck.

(07:08):
Now, I'm also a Cleveland Brownsfan, and I'm just used to
watching terrible football, somaybe that's it too.
I don't know.

SPEAKER_02 (07:20):
All right.
In more exciting news, WVU gameagainst Robert Morris School.
I don't really know.
See, when I say I'm glad that weopened with a cupcake because we
are not a team that has milliondollar budgets like Ohio State.
And I like it when those two,you know, the what were they

(07:40):
like the one and three team?
They have that head to head.
Fine to start the season rightnow at the place of my football
program is in.
I feel like we need to play aneasy your team to really get a
good look and get the jittersout, but I was cool as a
cucumber the entire game.
Oh, man.
No sweats.
No sweats.
The return of the prodigal son,Rich Rodriguez.

SPEAKER_00 (08:04):
She uttered the phrase, fire him.
I was just joking.
Within three minutes of the gamestarting.

SPEAKER_02 (08:10):
Okay, I was being a little sarcastic there.
I was being a little sarcasticthere.

SPEAKER_00 (08:15):
Okay, well, ten minutes into the game, you
weren't being sarcastic anymore.
I

SPEAKER_02 (08:19):
never said fire rich

SPEAKER_00 (08:21):
rodriguez

SPEAKER_02 (08:22):
i was still joking

SPEAKER_00 (08:23):
yeah i'm gonna set up secret microphones in this
house so i can record her onthese games because i don't feel
like you guys or even sheaccurately understands what it's
like to watch a football but

SPEAKER_02 (08:32):
you haven't watched a football game like that with
that version of hope in a longtime

SPEAKER_00 (08:36):
i wasn't asking for it back either

SPEAKER_02 (08:39):
well let me just say when it works i felt like i was
in a time machine the tempo talkabout not boring that just the
having that fast tempo again ifelt like Like I was like
literally back in the early2000s and it was awesome.
I like that style of play.
The quick, the fast.

(08:59):
What about you?
I find that more thrilling as afan.
I

SPEAKER_00 (09:03):
enjoy it.
Yeah, it's fun to watch.
The problem is when you get intoa situation where you need to do
something other than that andyou can't.

SPEAKER_02 (09:10):
Oh, well, that's neither here nor there.

SPEAKER_00 (09:11):
Like when you need to eat clock, but you can't
because your offense is onlyever done pedal to the metal all
season.
And so then you end up scoring.
I'm thinking about an Oklahomagame.
That

SPEAKER_02 (09:23):
wasn't Rich

SPEAKER_00 (09:24):
Rod's team.
I know that wasn't Rich Rod'steam, but that's a full in the
system where they kept scoring.
If our kicker hadn't missed thatextra point,

SPEAKER_02 (09:32):
we wouldn't have lost.
I remember being at the game.
I said, we're going to lose byone

SPEAKER_00 (09:35):
point.
I'm on Larry David's side withthis.
We need to get rid of thekickers.
It is so insane to me that wehave this person on the team who
only does this one thing, butthe game literally holds in the
balance of them doing their job.
I think kickers should be out offootball i think they need to go

(09:58):
no more field goals no moreextra points get rid of it

SPEAKER_02 (10:02):
okay well disagree there but i i like you know
sometimes the drama thetheatrics especially when you
can like block a field goalthat's always fun to watch in
game and not when it doesn'twhen it happens to my team it's
not fun but with other peopleit's fun now this game started
off and i was okay the reasonwhy i said the fire rich rod
thing is i was talking to afriend and we were like oh you

(10:22):
know that if some of thesemistakes had happened with the
other coach we'd be losing oursure it was crazy that some of
the sloppy mistakes so I thinkwhen you have a team that you
lost I think like over 70players on and a new coach and
just everything's new it wasgood for us to play a team like

(10:42):
Robert Morris because it was amessy in the beginning I think
even Rich Rodriguez said afterthe game himself we he's like I
don't know if I've ever seenfour fumbles in a row that was
insane it was a mess but I'mpretty sure I'm surprised they
didn't bring like adefibrillator in the locker room
he probably lit into them scaredthem all half to death because
they came out in the second halfand did what you're supposed to

(11:04):
do against a team like RobertMorris they laid it on thick
they did exactly what I you knowwhat what should be expected of
a team and I'm not going to getlike too you know overly excited
and be like oh my gosh we'regoing to be the best ever
because it's just Robert Morrisbut when I got my rational brain
back into my head and I sat backfrom the the game, I think there

(11:27):
was more positives to take awayfrom that.
Do I think it's going to be atough season?
Of course.
Do I think there's going to be alot of growing pains?
Of course.
But I did see a lot of good.
Like I said, when that up-tempostuff works, it works.
I thought our defense, again, Iknow it's only Robert Morris,
but our defense really camethrough.
That was fun to see.
I think Nico did great.

(11:48):
What do you think about Nico?

SPEAKER_00 (11:49):
Oh, yeah.
He was definitely a bright spot, for sure.
Even in the beginning of thegame when they were having the
fumble troubles, it wasn't hisfault that Like there were drop
passes and there were fumbles, but none of them were on, on
him.
Uh, he played great.
So I think he's the starter andless something I have.
I know there was one guy thatwas hurt.
We didn't get to see play.

(12:09):
And so maybe, but I, to me,there's no question about who's
the starter.

SPEAKER_02 (12:13):
I think that he earned that spot.
Apparently it was between himand that other guy that has a
hamstring injury.
So we'll see.
Now it was really fun to seethat freshman get in at the end.

SPEAKER_00 (12:22):
Yes.
But all those people are sayinghe needs to be the starter and
need to shut up.
I

SPEAKER_02 (12:26):
think that's just a small minority of fans.
I think why we all liked it somuch was it took us back to the
Pat White days.
Just him taking off and runningit in for a touchdown.
And it was just really excitingto see that.
It was really fun to see thatmoment.
Then he takes his helmet off andI'm like, wow, college kids look
young.
Look like babies to me.
I can tell you, you're talkingabout how it's been a while

(12:49):
since you've seen this side ofme.
I felt like I got so apatheticduring the Neil Brown era.
how many alone was your coachlike six years or something that
like I was getting to a pointwhere like I felt like nothing
in a game it was nice to feelrage excitement happiness again
I was like wow I feel somethingagain for this football team and

(13:11):
that was really really cool andI do think it's a nice story
with Richard coming back ifyou're one of those people
that's real weird about likeeverything and like I mean he
got his karma like this like letit go to do your breathing
exercises I can see the argumentor people are like well what did
he do in the 17 years he wasn'tthe coach that's neither here
nor there it looks like WVdidn't have many options to

(13:33):
begin with and they needed tohire somebody and it is what it
is he's the guy he's the coachI'm gonna hope that he has
success and I had fun watchingthat game I have been worried
about the game that they playthis weekend before before like
I even knew Rich Rodriguez wasgonna be a coach and I saw the
schedule this just has all themakings of a trap game they're
going to Athens great littletown I love Athens And they're

(13:57):
playing another school in Ohio.

SPEAKER_00 (14:00):
Ohio.

SPEAKER_02 (14:01):
OU.
The OU Bobcats.
So with the Pitt game nextweekend, I really hope that Rich
Rod makes sure.
And I think he will make surethat they're not looking ahead.
And I think he's going to haveto internally as a coach.
Because we know that game nextweek has a lot of high stakes
for him.
Based on the last time he playedthat team with WVU.

(14:23):
So I think that...
They need to not focus on that.
And it will be interesting tosee them, you know, because OU,
the Bobcats, they're definitelybetter, I would say, than Robert
Morris.
Yeah.
It'll be interesting to see ifwe get some of those mistakes
ironed out.
But I'm excited.
Tell a friend she's back.
Crazy Hope is back.

(14:44):
Everyone rejoice.

SPEAKER_00 (14:45):
Woo! If the WVU team that came out in the second half
against Robert Morris plays thefull game against OU, it won't
be a problem.

SPEAKER_02 (14:53):
We'll have to see.
We'll have to see.
But we'll see.
But college football is back, and the NFL is also returning
this week, officially.
Daniel, are you excited for theCleveland Browns season?

SPEAKER_00 (15:07):
No.
Hope, are you excited for thePittsburgh Steelers season?

SPEAKER_02 (15:11):
No.

SPEAKER_00 (15:12):
All right.

SPEAKER_02 (15:14):
Oh, oh, oh, but you know what I am excited about
speaking about football?
Last week, the Girlies, we had agreat week.
Oh, God.
Okay, so on the same day thatthe official pumpkin spice menu
items launched at Starbucks Iwas like how could this day get
any better and then it happenedI thought it was a joke I get
this text I'm like coming backfrom my lunch break and it's I

(15:37):
get a text to an Instagram postand I'm like is this real is
this real is it fake TaylorSwift and Travis are engaged I
feel like this is like America'sroyal couple like you know how
we have like the royal weddingwith like the British people
this is like our royal weddingand it was so exciting and
you're sitting in here making aface but Daniel is a supportive

(15:57):
man and you don't hate on peoplefor liking Taylor Swift and
being excited about this.

SPEAKER_00 (16:02):
I'm happy that you and all your Taylor Swift fans
that you got what you wanted butlike I just I mean I barely get
excited when people I'm relatedto announce their wedding.

SPEAKER_02 (16:14):
I'm pretty sure I got more excited for Taylor
Swift's engagement than somepeople that I'm related to when
they've told me they're engagedbecause it was just so much fun
to add to the day.
So last week we had PumpkinSpice.
We had college football.
We had Taylor and Travis.
We had Sabrina Carpenter's newalbum.
And three-day weekends.
It was awesome.
You said something else aboutthe NFL.

(16:35):
What were you saying?
We lost that train of thought, did we?

SPEAKER_00 (16:39):
I was going to transition to the TV we've been
watching.

SPEAKER_02 (16:41):
Oh, I was going to ask you one more question about
the NFL.
Okay.
Bold Super Bowl prediction.
Go.

SPEAKER_00 (16:47):
Oh, my gosh.
I haven't even been paying thatmuch attention lately.
Neither have I.

SPEAKER_02 (16:51):
Just pick two teams.
I'm going to say repeat

SPEAKER_00 (16:54):
a last year's Chiefs win.
Chiefs and Eagles.
Yeah.
Chiefs and Eagles will be backat it again.
I don't know.
Who's good?

SPEAKER_02 (16:59):
Shadar Sanders.
Is that his name?
He's not even starting.
And the Cleveland Browns.

SPEAKER_00 (17:06):
No.
If they make the playoffs, it'llbe a miracle.

SPEAKER_02 (17:10):
All right.
Well, enough football chatterbecause we are not, believe it
or not, a sports podcast.
We actually did watch some TV.
We've been watching some TV.
And there's a lot of thingscooking for our The Summer I
Turn Vulcan kind of mini whichis The Summer I Turned Pretty
Season 3 and Star Trek StrangeNew Worlds Season 3.

(17:32):
Let's go ahead and kick it offwith The Summer I Turned Pretty
first because I got a lot tosay.

SPEAKER_00 (17:37):
Before you get into that specific show, I just want
to say that when we came up withThe Summer I Turned Vulcan thing
before we even watched anepisode of either of the shows
because we just saw that theywere both coming out at the same
time and we're like, ha ha, whata funny joke.
Absolutely.
As the Star Trek season has goneon, it has been kind of strange

(18:00):
how relationship-focused theshow has been to the point where
it really is matching the energyof the theme that we're going
with here.
And I just wanted to remark thatthat's been a very interesting
and delightful development.
It has

SPEAKER_02 (18:14):
been.
And I'll get a little bit moreinto how on the nose that's been
when we talk about Star Trek.
But we're talking about Summer,I Turn Pretty First.
What's

SPEAKER_00 (18:24):
Belly up to?
A lot's been

SPEAKER_02 (18:25):
happening.
happening guys so the lastcouple episodes have been the
best of the season I think thelast one I talked about on the
show was Conrad's point of viewepisode we have since had the
bachelor bachelorette partiesthat episode was fantastic now I
don't know if Daniel's gonnahave time to find the clip roll
the clip if it exists

SPEAKER_00 (18:46):
he's not

SPEAKER_02 (18:47):
so he's not okay so apparently you can roll clips of
me when I say out-of-pocketthings but can't find something
of yourself

SPEAKER_03 (18:53):
absolutely

SPEAKER_02 (18:54):
but Daniel asked when we were talking about the
summer I turned pretty earlierand he's like and I was talking
about Jeremiah Fisher and he'slike was Jeremiah a bullfrog so
cue the bachelor episodes andthey're at Jeremiah's bachelor
party and suddenly on thespeaker comes Jeremiah was a

(19:15):
bullfrog and I about off thecouch and I'm like how do you do
that so in that episode wefinally have conversation Conrad
learns about the cheating, theon a break, the Cabo situation
that Jeremiah inflicted uponBelly.
He doesn't know that Bellyknows.
But then Conrad decides he'sgoing to lay it all out there.

(19:35):
He sees Belly on the beach.
She was supposed to meetJeremiah, but shocker, shocker,
man-child Jeremiah is passed outdrunk.
And Conrad says, you know, Istill love you.
And it was iconic, such anamazing scene.
And Belly at her bacheloretteparty was dancing around to the
Ariana Grande song, like, WeCan't Be Friends.
and basically had like an editmontage of Conrad in her head

(19:59):
and then she's in there in thebathroom because all the girlies
we always have our deep serioustalks in the bathroom and she's
like I didn't picture any ofthis I always pictured Conrad
and it's like but of course whenConrad made the confession Belly
was like no how could you saythis which you know it is kind
of weird that he says it liketwo nights before her like
wedding like that's when hedecides to come clean with his
feelings so she's like don'ttalk to me about this blah blah

(20:21):
blah and that pretty much playedout like the book so then the
next episode Which felt like anactual movie.
The best episode I've ever seenof the series.
It is the rehearsal weekend.
And finally, war is over! Bellyand Jeremiah are done! Woo! Oh,
that also happened last week.

(20:42):
The wedding's off.
Belly and Jeremiah aren'tgetting married.
Travis and Taylor are engaged.
Pumpkin Spice.
College football.
Sabrina's album.
Amazing.
So, it pretty much played outvery similarly to how it does in
the books and I think that thefew of you the weirdos that ship
Jelly Jeremiah and Belly I thinkyou guys have to be glad at how

(21:05):
they did this episode because Ifelt that it did show that there
was true love there theirgoodbye scene was really
meaningful I mean it even had mefeeling sorry for Jeremiah at
one point and actually sheddingtears for him there's this whole
plot about the letters in thebook Susanna the Jeremiah and
Conrad's mom who passed away shehad written them letters for the
wedding somehow the letters gotmixed up and that scene where

(21:30):
Jeremiah is picking up hisletter and he realizes he
accidentally has Conrad's letterpretty much solidified because
she basically was like I'venever seen you you know Susanna
from the grave is like I can'tthis wedding can't happen so
like from the beyond she'smaking sure there's ghosts in
this okay anyway she's it waslike I've never seen you as
happy as when you were in lovewith belly and you in the whole

(21:52):
like the way imagine evensomebody like Jeremiah who's a
man child and it just feels likeeverything's against you you
found out that your own brotherconfessed to love to your fiance
you still think your fiance isin love with your brother and
you're right about it your owndad doesn't like you and then
you're looking for comfort fromyour mother from the beyond and
you get that letter and Ithought that Gavin who plays

(22:16):
Jeremiah acted well honestly allthree of the leads of the main
cast were phenomenal they madeit emotional they made it great
Taylor I I feel very vindicatedabout that.
Taylor's my girl.
I did not like Taylor in thebooks.
Love Taylor in the show.
And she's always been kind oflike a jelly shipper until she
realized, because I feel likeshe was always like that because

(22:36):
she only saw Conrad with theinformation Belly was giving
her.
And she wanted, you know, what'sbest for her friend.
And she gets so, but now thatshe's hearing Belly say, like,
I've only pictured Conrad andshe knows that Jeremiah cheated
and all these things.
Taylor, like right before thewedding.
Sorry, am I boring you, Marv?
And Marvin just yawned.
I don't know if that's oncamera.

(22:57):
Taylor's like, are you sure youwant to do this?
Like, I don't think you shoulddo this.
She's like, you guys are socodependent on each other, which
they are.
Belly and Jeremiah, the wholecrux of their relationship is
they leaned on each other afterSusanna's death.
And I feel like it's almost likethat child petulance of, you
know, like, what does Frasiersay in that episode?
It's because I love her.
He's going to commit to being inlove.

(23:18):
That's what it's giving.
That's what it's giving.
And I was so glad because peoplehave just like crapped on Taylor
all season.
and then I was also really gladabout Stephen that's Belly's
brother everyone's always beenlike Stephen is such a bad
friend to Jeremiah no he's notlike he actually stood up for
Jeremiah and actually toldConrad like hey what are you
doing he's like we haven't heardfrom you why are you doing all

(23:40):
this now and does he have allthe facts of course he doesn't
but to the outside person whatConrad did isn't great the
timing was bad so Stephen provedto be a great brother to Belly
and also oh my gosh I was soworried with Stephen and and
Denise that's like theirco-worker I was so worried that
they were nice yeah I was soworried they're gonna put them
together they had them kiss andthey're like not feeling it at

(24:03):
all and so Stahler's back onSteven and Taylor love that well
anyway the wedding does not gothrough Jeremiah basically says
you know you can't marry me toerase him which is very similar
to what they say in the book soBelly is going to Paris and
guess what as a book readerwe're done with the book there's
only like the little page likethe two two seconds of flash

(24:25):
forward in that book left and wehave three more episodes
including the episode that'salready dropped and you crazy
people that get up at 4 a.myou've already watched it you
know what happens i think we'regonna have an emily in paris
type thing but belly in paris

SPEAKER_00 (24:39):
bonjour

SPEAKER_02 (24:40):
i do worry that this first ep because we we got that
extra episode which seemed weird11 episodes i'm not sure we're
seeing any of the other castincluding conrad i think it
might just be belly forming herown friendships they're gonna
have a time jump now she did seeconrad at the airport before she
was getting ready to go to Parisdon't ask me why the gate to
California would be right besidethe gate to get on an

(25:01):
international flight but it's TVmagic I think they're gonna lock
eyes and she's gonna get on thatplane or I think she's he's not
even gonna see her and she'sgonna get on that plane because
at this point Conrad thinksshe's married to his brother so
we have a lot a lot a lot ofcontent left to fill that we
didn't get in the books and I'mexcited to see where the show

(25:24):
show goes Marvin is clearly overit and is like why is mommy so
animated but I'm really lookingforward to seeing how these next
few episodes of the summer Iturn pretty turn out I've been
kind of given just like randomlittle updates on this show but
I had to talk a lot becausethose that episode was amazing
and a lot of you guys have beenmessaging me asking me my
thoughts on it so here those aremy thoughts I think it's going

(25:47):
to play out very similarly tothe book but we're going to
actually get to see moredevelopment of belly's you know
life away finally from thesebrothers I think she will date,
you know, somebody else justlike she does in the book.
And I'm not worried at all aboutConrad and Belly being in game.
I don't think she's going toultimately choose herself.
Maybe they won't get marriedlike they do at the end of the
book, but I think they'll betogether and I think we're going

(26:09):
to be fine.
And if not, we write, we writeit on.

SPEAKER_00 (26:14):
Well, thank goodness for all of that.
And Star Trek also.

SPEAKER_02 (26:22):
Yes.
So speaking of the summer Iturned Vulcan, we really all did
turn Vulcan.
Yeah, they did.
So that's what I meant by on thenose.
We had an entire, I think thatwas the most recent episode
where they all, I don't knowwhy, they kind of had a
throwaway line about

SPEAKER_00 (26:36):
why they all had to be Vulcans.

SPEAKER_02 (26:39):
It was for the bit.
Yeah.
But it was incredible.
The perfect type of mess around.
We also had another episode, which I don't think we've talked
about yet.
with um one of the previous oneswith that was kirk focused

SPEAKER_03 (26:51):
yeah

SPEAKER_02 (26:52):
and they were going over to help his ship and they
intentionally had it with scottyand a horror right

SPEAKER_00 (26:58):
and spock and

SPEAKER_02 (27:00):
chapel and chapel because they're all the original
crew

SPEAKER_00 (27:04):
yep

SPEAKER_02 (27:05):
so um that show yeah relationships lots of drama we
have spock and leon lawn am isaying lawn i think is how they
say it on the still think thatSpock and Chappell have a thing
even though Chappell's with thatdoctor guy I think that Kirk
still likes Lon and that's amess and she'd be down I don't

(27:26):
know it's it's a there's a lotgoing on like I feel like
there's as much relationshipdrama right now in Star Trek as
I do the summer I turn pretty

SPEAKER_00 (27:34):
yeah definitely I've been enjoying the season so far
I think we've lost a little bitof the plot from early in the
season we were dealing a lotmore with Battelle and her kind
of like what was going on withthe Gorn DNA and her in these
last episodes but again it'sStar Trek I want it to be
episodic so I want each episodeto kind of be its own thing yeah
and with a little bit of likecontinuing story going through

(27:57):
it but for the most part it'sits own thing and they've been
doing that

SPEAKER_02 (27:59):
and they did sprinkle that in with the Vulcan
episode because they had she'strying to get reinstated not
necessarily be a captain but towork again and she had that
other Vulcan guy had to comeover that Pike apparently just
does not like yeah but becausePike was in his Vulcan form when
he came over he's got all thesethings and then it caught to
actually just like snap and belike oh my gosh you guys are

(28:21):
driving me nuts and they werelike oh you know it to be you
know in this role you need tospeak freely and that's what she
did I think that they willcircle back I think that's
probably going to be what thefinale we have two more episodes

SPEAKER_03 (28:34):
yes

SPEAKER_02 (28:35):
I think that'll be something dealing with Patel is
going to be part of that finaleand the whole DNA thing and the
whole Gorn thing I think theywill see that through and that's
going to be here's

SPEAKER_00 (28:46):
my big question for you about the that character
because you said to me afterthat last episode you're
actually starting she's actuallystarting to become one of your
favorite characters yeah she'sshe's cooked

SPEAKER_02 (28:58):
she's cooked unfortunately they're giving her
a personality she doesn't havethe plot armor yeah we're
getting to know her more wellthat's what concerns me so much
with the series as a whole asthat lawn doesn't have plot
armor either yeah we're beingbarked at right now by Marvin
he's like enough Star Trek

SPEAKER_00 (29:14):
talk fine we'll stop talking about Star Trek okay
well so you didn't watch TheSummer I Turned Pretty.
You're still watching The SummerI Turned Pretty.
I'm so confused by this becausethe notes.
You watched something else verysimilar to The Summer I Turned
Pretty.

SPEAKER_02 (29:30):
You could read the show notes.
The

SPEAKER_00 (29:33):
show notes says Timu Yeehaw version of The Summer I
Turned Pretty aka Netflix's MyLife with the Walter Boys season
2.

SPEAKER_02 (29:44):
That is correct.
This is Netflix's response Ithink to my life or response I
can't even talk response to thesummer I turn pretty is my life
with the Walter boys of coursethese are their own books but I
think they made the show to tryto be very much like is there
something wrong

SPEAKER_00 (30:02):
he had grass in his beard

SPEAKER_02 (30:03):
and we are not referring to one of the
characters not one of the Walterboys we're talking about what
Marvin over here we'repodcasting at a different time
than we normally do and he's notinto it he's not here for it
he's like no He's like, you guysare boring.

SPEAKER_00 (30:20):
We're at 30 minutes on this recording, and he's been
staring at me for the betterpart of 25 minutes.
He just

SPEAKER_02 (30:25):
snorted just now.
Marvin, can I please talk aboutthe yeehaw version of The Summer
I Turned Pretty?
So anyway, it takes place on afarm.
I think I talked about seasonone on this podcast.
Maybe I didn't.
I don't remember.
What is time?
Time is a thief.
But it revolves around a girlnamed Jackie.

SPEAKER_00 (30:44):
You just quoted a Star Trek there.

SPEAKER_02 (30:47):
Oh, God.
This does kind of go with theSummer I Turned Vulcan theme.
Her entire family, except forher uncle, well, not her entire,
her immediate family, parents, sister, they die in an accident.
She is sent to live with Donnafrom Suits' family and all the
Walter boys.
That was her mom's best friend.
And you guys know that I'm asucker for a love triangle with

(31:09):
brothers.
And ultimately, ladies, we'realways going to pick the older,
more broody brother.
Except for...
I really wish people wouldstop...
doing the Nathan Lucas thing.
Like, Nathan is the betterbrother.
I will say that Lucas was thebroody one.

SPEAKER_00 (31:23):
They're also half brothers, so you get off on a
technicality.
That

SPEAKER_02 (31:26):
wasn't the love triangle, though, in that show.
Like, yes, we had Lucas intoPeyton in the beginning, but I
barely remember Peyton andNathan even dating.
The love triangle of One TreeHill was the Peyton-Lucas-Brooke
love triangle.
So, case closed.
But, obviously, you know, Damon, sorry, I love Stefan, but it's
Delaina all the way.
You guys are incorrect, if youthink otherwise.

(31:47):
And...
obviously Conrad and Belly.
I like them better for eachother.
And then of course I am teamCole on my life with the Walter
boys.
But this season really said, youknow what?
We already got a season three.
Let's go.
Let's copy paste season one.
And I felt like I literallywatched season one again.

(32:07):
What is this?
And it's like Belly at leasthas, I think her reasons why she
decides to date Jeremiah afterbeing with Conrad as flawed as
they are.
Like, she feels like Conraddoesn't love her anymore.
And she, you know, and Jeremiahare kind of like each other's
safety net.
Like Jackie last in the seasonone, she had been.

UNKNOWN (32:34):
Yeah.

SPEAKER_00 (32:35):
okay we are back so that scream that you heard
followed by the silence was thedog sprinting across the couch
taking with him

SPEAKER_02 (32:48):
you were not in our normal podcast room

SPEAKER_00 (32:50):
our audio equipment and pulling cords out of boxes
and so it just kind of cut outand like we were no longer
recording

SPEAKER_02 (32:59):
we're podcasting at the wrong time of

SPEAKER_00 (33:00):
day wrong time of day wrong room and

SPEAKER_02 (33:03):
Marvin says I hate season two of my life the water
boys too stop talking about itmommy okay anyway at the end of
season one Jackie had beendating Alex but she had the
connection with Cole all alongCole fixed her teapot they
kissed passionately it wasamazing and this season picks up
and I thought you know she'sgonna be because she basically

(33:23):
left after that she was like I'mgoing to New York with my uncle
whatever gets out of Dodge shecomes back she has this moment
with Cole and she's like youknow but I think we should just
be friends and then Alex is likeson yeah I will say this well
done the actor for Alex did havea nice little glow up in the off
season so like all these ladiesat school like Alex now he's 18

(33:47):
year old I use air quotes liketrainer for whatever his like
horse riding bronco buckingwhatever it's called thing he
does like you have to stay onlike a horse that like bucks for
a certain amount of time I don'treally know what that's called

SPEAKER_00 (34:01):
that's not I don't think that's what I was when I
was I was on the couch for a Idon't think that's what was
happening there.
He was going through an obstaclecourse, right?
With the horse?

SPEAKER_02 (34:11):
No, he was not.
He's a Bronco thing.
He gets on the back of thehorse.
They let him out, and you haveto stay on it as long

SPEAKER_00 (34:19):
as you can.
Like a bull riding thing, butwith a horse?
But it's like

SPEAKER_02 (34:22):
a horse.
They're called Broncos.

SPEAKER_00 (34:26):
I'm not the one that had to be explained to that the
horse, that the car is namedafter the horse, not the other
way around.
Or

SPEAKER_02 (34:33):
the football team.

SPEAKER_00 (34:34):
Or the football team.

SPEAKER_02 (34:35):
anyway no I think you were watching a training
scene okay but this woman who noshade to the actress pretty girl
but I was like oh is this gonnabe like a student teacher creepy
thing and she's like I'm 18 I'mlike 18 are you Andrea Zuckerman
from 90210 rolling up in herebecause you do not look 18 to me
but I thought they were gonnahook up then suddenly Alex is

(34:56):
like she goes in to kiss him andhe's like I'm still into Jackie
and apparently Jackie isthinking Alex is fine too so
those two start hooking upsecretly making out and I'm like
oh are we really doing thisagain Jackie even tells him I
kissed Cole and he's like youknow what now I know that I
wasn't crazy and that there wassomething between you guys but
if I don't have anything to bejealous about it's totally fine

(35:17):
and I don't really know what'sup with that it's annoying this
is a show where like I don'tmind Alex as much especially
this season as like he doesn'tbother me as much as Jeremiah
but he basically be the Jeremiahof the show if you will so then
she's wanting to keep it asecret from everybody and then
finally Cole catches them makingout and he's like what are you

(35:37):
doing he's like I was being youknow I wanted like you said you
wanted to be friends and he'slike I like I'm in love with you
and she's like I'm in love withyou too but you know I I can't
be with you right now becauseit's too hard and I'll lose
control some BS reason so Ididn't even get Cole and Jackie
kiss not once this episode I getanother love confession and then
Alex comes out of the house andhears it and I'm like so if they

(36:00):
do that again in season three wegot at this point this whole
Alex thing is done now lastseason I actually shipped Alex
with his friend, Kylie.
I'm not shipping that anymore.
I'm done.
They pulled something totallyout of their rear ends for
season two.
Really, the only storyline Iliked was Kylie, Alex's best
friend with...

(36:21):
I think his name's Dylan.
I keep calling him Nathanbecause he reminds me of Nathan
Scott from One Tree Hill.
They are Nathan and Haley coded.
Like, popular jock guy changesfor the better for the nerdy
pretty girl.
And when they kissed at the endof the season, I, like, clapped.
I needed more screen time forthem.
And Alex totally looked jealouswhen he saw them kiss because

(36:42):
they kissed at some, like,Hallmark type of, like, winter
carnival crap thing.
And now at this point, I don'twant Alex with Kylie, but I'm
afraid that's what they're goingto go.
Put him...
with the 18 year old air quotelike I keep wanting to say bull
riding but they're not ridingbulls like horse training riding
rodeo lady person and then wehave the whole like plot of the

(37:05):
one brother and they're wantingto put like a rant or something
like a resort on the ranch

SPEAKER_00 (37:10):
I heard the word yurt thrown around several times
which seemed odd to me that

SPEAKER_02 (37:13):
whole storyline is like you know that like clip
from Abby Lee Miller from DanceMoms that TikTok uses is like
and all of a sudden this groupvoice like every time that
character comes on screen I'mlike just please like go off
with your wife be marriedbecause this storyline is so
boring and I don't want to hearany more of that and then they
just they had some I thought Iwas going crazy that there was

(37:33):
like plot lines from season oneand I was like did I make that
up about like the counselor thathad had a thing with Jackie's
uncle they just dropped thatentirely no discussion those two
didn't even have a scenetogether don't know what's up
with that the dad from my lifewith the Walter boys totally had
a heart attack called that one Ithink you're watching that
episode he like clutched hischest at dinner he's like oh

(37:54):
I've had too much pie and I waslike oh I bet he's gonna have a
cardiac event so that was likethe big cliffhanger we have the
I love you confession we haveAlex overhearing it then we've
got we find out that the dad hashad a heart attack there's no
way they're gonna kill him offthat would be so much trauma for
Jackie but really this show didI watch it in two days and it
was 10 episodes yes is it verygood no did they not did they

(38:18):
just literally recycle everystoryline from season one yes
will I be there for season threewith bells on yes

SPEAKER_00 (38:30):
okay well going forward here so I just want to
pat myself on the back I'm twofor two this season this year on
recommendations to hope forshows to watch that I'm not
going to watch

SPEAKER_02 (38:43):
this isn't a show

SPEAKER_00 (38:45):
it's a show it's a movie you watched the Netflix
original movie can K-pop demonhunters.

SPEAKER_02 (38:52):
I did.
Now, you weren't the firstperson to recognize this.
I can't talk tonight.
Between Marvin's shenanigans, between the yeehaw, the summer I
turn pretty, regular the summerI turn pretty, people turning
into Vulcans, football, thechords coming undone, I've lost
my ability to speak.
But I'm going to try to keep ittogether because this movie was

(39:14):
awesome.
So my nephew actually told me towatch this like a couple months
ago when it first came out.
And I'm like, yeah, I don't knowwhat you're talking about.
talking about I had heard theone song the minor little soda
pop and now I love that songtotal banger so Daniel's like I
think we should watch this movieand then you decided for some
reason that you weren't gonnawatch it I was like well I'm
gonna watch it guys like fiveseconds in I'm like oh this is

(39:36):
amazing I loved it so much mylatest crush on TV is now a
cartoon character

SPEAKER_03 (39:42):
because

SPEAKER_02 (39:44):
I like the I'm not I can't I don't want to
incorrectly pronounce theirnames but we're just call it
like he's like the head of theboy band and one of the demon
guys I think his name's like JinYu or something please don't
come from you withpronunciations I was more like
enthralled about how hot he wasand he's a cartoon and then he's

(40:04):
singing boy band songs at methen we have the girl group so
basically it's about this girlgroup like for for all of time
we've had the demon slayers tokeep the humans safe and they've
always been disguised as somekind of musical group so they're
huntrix this is their this isthe current the three girls and
And so we have the whole scene.
They're on their plane.
They're trying to go to theirconcert.

(40:25):
That's how it kicks off.
And then they realize there'sdemons on the plane.
So they have to slay the demons.
And then they're singing a song.
They're rapping.
And then they land at theconcert venue.
So it's basically like a musicaltype.
I mean, you heard all the music, right?

SPEAKER_00 (40:38):
Yeah.
Multiple times I've heard itnow.

SPEAKER_02 (40:40):
Oh, yeah.
I've been playing it.
I've been between Sabrina's newalbum, Man's Best Friend, and
the K-pop Demon Huntersoundtrack.
I fear that's all we're going tobe listening to until October
3rd when Life of a Showgirl byMiss Taylor Allison Swift comes
out.
That's what you're going to behearing.
And then Afterlife of aShowgirl, we'll get into
Christmas music.
Oh, and Wicked, part two.

(41:00):
Oh, so many good things.
Anyway, so thank you, Daniel.
That was amazing.
You're welcome.
The soundtrack, there is not asingle skip on it.
I heard that the movie wasactually supposed to be quite a
bit longer, and I have a majorship in it.
Oh, my gosh.
Rumi and the one guy, Jin Yu.
Again, sorry if I pronounce hisname wrong.

(41:20):
on he's too hot I'm sodistracted I definitely ship
them but I heard that like theyhad there was some more like
romantic scenes between him andthey cut it because Netflix
wanted them to market this forkids and I'm like Please.
Show it to me, Rachel.
Give me the extended cut.
I would watch three hours ofK-pop Demon Hunters.

(41:42):
And I knew when I decided to sitdown and watch it was I had seen
that they, even though you canwatch the St.
Alon on Netflix now, that theyhad put it in theaters and that
they were selling out shows.
And I'm like, okay.
I've got to know.
I've got to know what the hypeis.
But it was a really good story, too.
It wasn't just good music.
It was a really good story.
The more the story was good thenI'm looking at the cast list and

(42:07):
I find out the the front manfrom Squid Game is in it he
wasn't one of the boy banders hewas actually like the bad does
this man like just play like badguys I guess he was like the bad
guy um But yeah, the music is sogood.
What do you think?
You've heard the music.
How good is the music?

SPEAKER_00 (42:26):
I mean, it's fine for like, if you're into that
boy band, girl band, pop.
Hello! So yeah, it's right upyour alley.
I knew it was going to be rightup your alley.
You

SPEAKER_02 (42:34):
said you liked Golden.

SPEAKER_00 (42:37):
You

SPEAKER_02 (42:37):
said you liked that song.

SPEAKER_00 (42:38):
Yeah, sure.
I'm just happy because I had anulterior motive in making you
watch this because for somereason, you, person who will be
sat for just about any DisneyPixar film imaginable.
I haven't

SPEAKER_02 (42:51):
watched Elio yet.

SPEAKER_00 (42:53):
Have you?
I haven't watched Elio yet.
Okay, yeah, but you will.

SPEAKER_02 (42:57):
When it comes to Disney+, of course.

SPEAKER_00 (43:00):
If it's an animated movie, but it's not Disney,
you're like, oh, that's forkids.
I don't want to watch that.

SPEAKER_02 (43:06):
I liked Shrek, but I watched Shrek when I was a kid.

SPEAKER_00 (43:09):
Uh-huh, yeah.

SPEAKER_02 (43:10):
Never fighting the Disney adult allegations, am

SPEAKER_00 (43:12):
I?
No, you have no defense to it.

SPEAKER_02 (43:15):
Over the weekend, I was like, I don't think I'm at
the level.
I don't have a bunch ofDisney...
or anything like that I don'tmake it my entire personality I
have other interests like TaylorSwift hello but then like five
minutes later I startedcomplaining about how I don't
want them to ruin the carouselof progress at Magic Kingdom and
then like a half hour later Iwatched the Disney Princess

(43:36):
special it was like a like a 10minute thing on Disney Plus
where like Jodie Benson voice ofAriel Paige O'Hara voice of
Belle they came together theMoana girl and Anani Rose the
voice of Tiana they did a And Istarted sobbing on the couch.
I was like, okay, I guess I am aDisney

SPEAKER_03 (43:53):
adult.

SPEAKER_02 (43:54):
But yeah, you're right to call me out for that.
I feel like I always watch otherstuff like Shrek.
I'm trying to think of another.
I didn't really get into Minions

SPEAKER_00 (44:02):
very much.
I'll just say right now, I'vewanted you to watch the Star
Trek Lower Deck show with me.
I've tried to get you to watchRick and Morty.
Rick and Morty

SPEAKER_02 (44:15):
is not kids.

SPEAKER_00 (44:16):
No, it's not.
But you're like, I don't want towatch a cartoon.
And recently I've been like...
I haven't really kicked thiscampaign up yet, but I want to
get you into King of the Hill.
Because I think you wouldactually like King of the Hill.

SPEAKER_02 (44:27):
I used to watch Daria.

SPEAKER_00 (44:28):
Yeah, I think you'd be right on board with King of
the Hill.

SPEAKER_02 (44:31):
Do you remember Daria?
I love Daria.
I remember Daria, yes.
That was a great show.
But it was really good.
And if they drop the secondmovie in theaters, I fear I
might have to go and buy all themerch.

SPEAKER_00 (44:43):
Oh, gosh.

SPEAKER_02 (44:44):
It was...
Yeah, I don't want to say toomuch about, like, to, like,
spoil, like, the plot.
I mean, how much?
of a kids movie.
Can you spoil the plot of?
It was good.
Go watch it.
I think we need to watch ittogether

SPEAKER_00 (44:55):
so you can be in on it.
If somebody already has Netflixsubscription, you're
recommending it is what you'resaying.

SPEAKER_02 (45:00):
Yes, unless you're allergic to fun.

SPEAKER_00 (45:01):
Okay.
Before we get into our nexttopic here, I do have a couple
notes.
We already talked about Jeremiahwas a bullfrog, but we have a
pretty big Star Trek note that Ithink we need to talk about.
So in the most recent episode ofStar Trek Strange New Worlds,
there was a bit of a Pittsburghwink.

SPEAKER_01 (45:17):
There was!

SPEAKER_00 (45:18):
There was, yes.
So somebody on the writer's teamor somebody related to Star Trek
Strange New Worlds has got to bea Pittsburgh native.
Yes.
Because they named the planetthat they were visiting, what
was it called, like Permantee 5or something?
Permantee or something.
Which I didn't initially catch, but when Ortega came back onto

(45:38):
the ship and said she waslooking forward to a sandwich
that they made down there withthe fries in it.

SPEAKER_02 (45:44):
Yeah, I totally did the Leo.
We both did the Leo point at theTV meme like, Permantee
Brothers.

SPEAKER_00 (45:49):
Suddenly.
I was like, well, that's not,that couldn't be a coincidence.
It's not possible.

SPEAKER_02 (45:54):
And I actually had somebody message me right after
that and that I know thatthey're from the Pittsburgh area
and they're a Star Trek watcheras well.
And he was like, hey, he's like, did you catch that Permanente's
reference?
I'm like, literally paused my TVin excitement.

SPEAKER_00 (46:09):
All right.
Now.

SPEAKER_02 (46:14):
Speaking of not fun.

SPEAKER_00 (46:16):
Well, you know what?
I actually have good news.
Because of the delayed podcast.
I am happy to announce that thisis the last time we have to talk
Bachelor in Paradise for

SPEAKER_02 (46:27):
this

SPEAKER_00 (46:28):
season.

SPEAKER_02 (46:29):
No, the finale is airing right now and we're
recording a podcast

SPEAKER_00 (46:33):
episode.
Oh crap, I forgot.
I forgot that it was so boringthat we decided to stop halfway
through the finale episode torecord the podcast instead of
continue watching it.

SPEAKER_02 (46:43):
And then we will have the reunion episode.
Nobody likes those.
This show has been a total atotal bust.
I don't even have that much tosay about it.
Now that Kathy and Keith aregone, the last of the Goldens,
it's just boring.

SPEAKER_00 (47:00):
Let me ask you, if they do a season next season, I
want them to go back to theKrusty Beach.
I'm assuming they're continuingto do Goldens as well.
Should they even it out more?
Because this season, while theydid bring in some Goldens, it
was heavily weighted toward therest of the younger cast?

(47:21):
Should they even it out more andmake it a little bit more 50-50
split in the Goldens versusthe...

SPEAKER_02 (47:26):
I'd say do more Goldens and then bring in young
people because the Goldens werethe only fun part of the whole
season.
They were entertaining.
They were aware of the camera, but the problem with this cast
is they're so aware of thecamera.
They're afraid to be messy, andI miss that vibe.
I really do miss that crusty oldbeach that they used to be at

(47:49):
and the terrible conditionsconditions

SPEAKER_00 (47:50):
the old set was much better I think it

SPEAKER_02 (47:52):
contributed to some of like just the drama I do like
that they have some games in theshow the thing that's annoying
me the most is that the couplesthat aren't like they have the
whole money element at thispoint I think I might know who
won because I might have justseen it on Twitter and spoiled
it I will tell you I'm gonnakeep it from you but they have
the whole like oh yeah keep mein suspense I just cannot wait

(48:12):
and you had some of the peoplethat were like you know like
there's money at stake there's alot more than this and we're
just admitting it like I'm sorryYou're on this beach for a
couple weeks with this person.

SPEAKER_00 (48:24):
You're going for the money.

SPEAKER_02 (48:25):
Yeah.
And if you find love along theway, great.
But it's the couples that actlike they're just so high and
mighty that they're not for it.
But then we just watched Jeremyand Bailey get sent home.
And they were acting so upsetabout it.
And I'm like, I thought youdidn't care about the money
element.
You can leave the show, not havea camera in your face, and go be

(48:45):
together.
Why are you crying?
You know what I mean?
You just made a big stink aboutit.
And I think I'm pretty surebased on what I've seen outside
the show, I think those twostill are together despite you
know his behavior on the show Ithink what really is annoying
for me as a Bachelor fan is thatBachelor in Paradise used to be
like the best of the Bachelorshows and they've tried to make

(49:09):
it like a Netflix like love showfailed miserably and it's just
not the same anymore and I thinkthis entire franchise is like
hanging on by a thread by athread so it might be time

SPEAKER_00 (49:24):
for It feels to me like the only thing keeping The
Bachelor nation, and I includeall The Bachelor shows in that,
is just the name.
It's got the name recognition,so people still tune in.
I've never been a huge fan, sothis is just an outsider tuning
in, but The Bachelor in Paradiseseasons have just been getting

(49:48):
worse.

SPEAKER_02 (49:48):
I watch because I used to watch the show in high
school.

SPEAKER_00 (49:52):
I haven't tuned in.
Well, let me make thisobservation then.
You've not even been watchingThe Bachelorette or The Bachelor
with consistency.

SPEAKER_02 (50:01):
I could not stand the Min that was cast on Jen's
season, and I really liked Jen,so I was like, fine.
Then she got on Dancing with theStars, and I was happy to root
for her.
I didn't watch Grant's season atall because I didn't know him,
and from what I've heard, Ididn't miss much.
So Bachelor in Paradise ismostly what I'm sticking around

(50:21):
for, and I just think a lot oflike...
The sincerity is gone.
I don't know.
It seems like they're changingtoo much.
Now, the only positive I'll sayabout this season, other than
the Goldens being fun, was theydid bring back the original
theme song, which is almostparadise, and the little cheesy

(50:41):
sitcom-like intros.
I like that.
That's fun.
But it's really going to annoyme if Bachelor in Paradise does
get canceled, and they're goingto blame it on people not tuning
in when I'm like, you guysruined the format like you did
this but it might just be timeto say goodbye to their shows
and a lot of people like i saidlike these younger generations

(51:04):
they're they're like look attheir instagram pages they're
all very curated they're allabout like the vibes the
aesthetic the style they'reafraid to be messy and i think a
lot of them like i know some ofthe heavy hitters said that they
turned down paradise becausethey didn't want to get a
villain edit they don't where itused to be people were like i'll
do anything to get my 15 minutesof fame give me the villain edit
fine and and they're just it'svery curated and like the whole

(51:28):
like situation we had that wholedrama of like everybody lying to
Bailey about what Jeremy hadsaid and it was like the entire
cast except for the one guy Idon't remember his name that you
and I didn't like he ended upbeing like the only honest one
and I forget his name Brian yeahBrian and Parisa Brian was like
and I'm like why am I agreeingwith Brian and like the whole

(51:49):
entire cast was like I don'tthink I've ever seen a cast do
that and I think it's becausethey None of them wanted to look
bad.
It was just odd.
It was weird.
And I'm talking about more ofthe young ones, not the old, the
old people.
I don't think cared.

SPEAKER_00 (52:03):
They should just make it, um, instead of bachelor
in paradise, it should just bemarried couples in paradise.
Find a bunch of married couplesto stand out there.
We'll sign up.
And then just do competitionstuff and drink all

SPEAKER_02 (52:14):
day.
So more like amazing race style.
Cause I thought you were goingto say, I thought you were going
to say something like temptationIsland.
I was like,

SPEAKER_00 (52:20):
no, not that, but just, just, but just battle,
but, but not, but the tip, butthe, competitions are like
Bachelor, the stuff they've donehere, but just hanging out on
the beach the rest of the time.
You and me, we're not afraid tobe a mess.

SPEAKER_02 (52:34):
We

SPEAKER_00 (52:35):
get on this podcast every week and are messy.

SPEAKER_02 (52:37):
What is up with all the sunburns?
Why are they not using sunscreenproperly in Costa Rica?
Everybody's been burnt thisseason.
So burned and it's sodistracting.
Anyway, let's be like Dale fromBachelor in Paradise.
Only the two of you that watchBachelor in Paradise are going
to understand this.
I'm deading this podcast.
I deaded It's done.
Wednesday, part two.

(52:59):
Season two.
Today is Wednesday.
The second half of the seasondrops.
We'll be talking about thatnext, but this podcast is
deaded.
It's over.
Peace out from Hope.
Let's go, Mountaineers.
Let's go, Team Conrad.
That's it.
Anything else to say, Daniel?

SPEAKER_00 (53:18):

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
