UNKNOWN (00:00):
you
SPEAKER_00 (00:11):
Hey everybody and
welcome to We Watch TV.
It is the podcast about the TVthat we watch.
I'm Daniel.
She is Hope.
This is episode 117.
Coming to you from the most proLittle Caesars podcast in the
universe.
SPEAKER_01 (00:30):
We are not sponsored
by Little Caesars.
SPEAKER_00 (00:31):
We are not sponsored
by Little Caesars, but I would
take that sponsorship in aheartbeat.
Imagine it's got to just...
They don't even need to pay memoney.
Just give me free pizzas.
SPEAKER_01 (00:41):
We actually ran a
poll.
If you guys didn't listen tolast week's episode, Daniel went
from talking about the NFLsomehow to ranting about pizza,
and this is just out of thechain pizza places.
He thinks that Little Caesars isthe best of all time.
You did not win the poll, by theway, which not a lot of people
(01:02):
voted in the Instagram pollgoing to say.
Papa John's actually won.
SPEAKER_00 (01:07):
Listen, I respect
that.
Papa John's
SPEAKER_01 (01:10):
actually won.
Papa John's
SPEAKER_00 (01:12):
on its A game is
better than Little Caesars.
SPEAKER_01 (01:18):
But you don't know
if you're always
SPEAKER_00 (01:19):
going to get the A
game.
But the last time I walked intoour Papa John's, they were like
20 minutes late.
Everybody was covered in flour.
SPEAKER_01 (01:27):
You didn't tell me
that.
SPEAKER_00 (01:28):
And it was like that
scene from Community where he
walks in and everything's onfire.
And it was just like, what isgoing on here?
SPEAKER_01 (01:39):
At least it was cut
properly.
Yeah.
And it was cooked.
Because we have had situationsbefore where it has been
undercooked.
SPEAKER_00 (01:46):
And don't get me
started on Domino's and Pizza
Hut.
Those are trash.
Domino's
SPEAKER_01 (01:48):
did get a vote.
They did get a
SPEAKER_00 (01:49):
vote.
Those are trash.
SPEAKER_01 (01:51):
I think one of the
reasons why you don't like
Domino's, it was the only placethat delivered to your house.
Sure.
And you guys used to all likeget in.
There was tears involved aboutwho had to call.
And I would be like, I am sohungry.
I'll call.
I will call them.
I
SPEAKER_00 (02:05):
have backup, by the
way, on this.
We did get a little bit of fanmail.
If you want to write us and geton the podcast with your
commentary, there's a link inthe episode description.
All you have to do is click iton your mobile device and it
will just allow you to send us atext and then we will read it on
the next episode.
SPEAKER_01 (02:24):
Share your pizza hot
takes.
SPEAKER_00 (02:26):
But my sister rang
in with Little Caesars Gang
Unite and two slices of pizza.
So I've got the support from therest of the clan.
I am not disagreeing with you.
SPEAKER_01 (02:36):
I think that they,
Little Caesars, except for the
time they didn't cut my pizza atall.
They've done that before.
But it's usually, at least ittastes the same, very mid-tier.
I
SPEAKER_00 (02:46):
got a pizza cutter
at home.
SPEAKER_01 (02:48):
I guess.
I feel like I pay them the$5 tocut it for me.
But I'm not disagreeing withyou.
I just don't think it's probablyas good as what you do.
But sometimes the Italian cheesebread just absolutely
SPEAKER_00 (03:01):
slaps.
How about those little pepperonicups?
SPEAKER_01 (03:04):
Okay, those were
pretty good.
I don't know how you could eatmore than one without feeling
vomiting.
SPEAKER_00 (03:08):
I ate eight once.
SPEAKER_01 (03:09):
And then you'll be
like, the next morning Daniel
I'll be like where did you throwthe pizza away and I ate it and
we like he won't put it in thefridge he eats it just room temp
like there's a lot of peoplethat like cold pizza and go on
and on about it you're like I'lltake mine room temp and then
it'll be like the night beforeand he'll be like man that pizza
made me sick and kept me up allnight and I'll be like oh cool
(03:31):
what'd you have for breakfast Ihad a slice of pizza you're
anything but consistent right
SPEAKER_00 (03:37):
anyways the other
fan mail we got to both from my
sister, by the way.
So just to round this out, thisis non-pizza related.
This is my transition back totelevision.
We had mentioned a coupleepisodes ago about watching
cartoons.
I think you had just gotten donewatching K-pop Demon Hunters.
SPEAKER_01 (03:55):
We're going up, up,
up.
Now I'm like in a cult.
Thanks for that.
SPEAKER_00 (04:01):
The K-pop Demon
Hunters cult.
I was berating you aboutthinking cartoons were only for
children and I named off a bunchof shows and one of them was
King of the hill and hannahhannah rung in and said hope you
will love king of the hill weare re-watching it now and it's
amazing and i agree and it'sthat into consideration and it
is a timely thing too becausethey actually just released a
(04:23):
new season after like i think 15years i
SPEAKER_01 (04:26):
think some episodes
a long time ago
SPEAKER_00 (04:28):
it's a good show
SPEAKER_01 (04:29):
okay i'll take it
i'll take it into consideration
SPEAKER_00 (04:33):
have i led you wrong
recently in show recommendations
i think i've been knocking themout of the park
SPEAKER_01 (04:38):
you haven't you'll
like recommend stuff that you
heard of about that you don'teven watch with me.
Yeah, exactly.
Like a K-pop Demon Hunter movie.
Hunting Wives, which, by theway, Netflix Hunting Wives is
officially on for season two.
They made the announcement onsocial media in perfect fashion.
They even kind of made fun of,like, remember how I complained
about the one girl's wig beingawful?
They made fun of that.
And then the two of them, thetwo leads presented at the Emmys
(05:00):
last night.
SPEAKER_00 (05:01):
So I'm just saying
that, like, I feel like I have,
like, an eye for what you want, for things you're going to like.
I guess so.
And I've been leading you thecorrect way, including a show
we're going to talk about laterthis episode for a while now so
I think if I say you're going tolike King of the Hill you're
going to like King of the Hillbut anyways go ahead scream at
(05:21):
the top of your lungs whateverit is you're going to say about
college football
SPEAKER_01 (05:25):
and we're back on
baby we can talk about college
football again let's just saysome a great game took place
over the weekend the backyardbrawl one of the best rivalries
in college football and what atime it It was.
What a time.
And WVU was victorious.
They beat the Pitt Panthers,ESP.
(05:48):
If you know, you know.
Sorry to all my Pennsylvanialisteners.
Although I think a lot of youguys are more Penn State fans.
But WVU won, and we don't,sadly, the rivalry game, since
we used to be in the sameconference, you know, really
it's better when I'm filled upwith Thanksgiving food.
It makes that hate in my heartbetter after I've spent the
(06:09):
whole day being thankful.
That's when this game should beplayed.
But since we're no longer in thesame conference, they brought it
back.
We played in September for a fewyears.
If we didn't have such a bumcoach before, we would have
owned that series 4-0.
Fight me.
It's true.
But we won't be seeing themagain until 2029.
So they get to sit on that L.
And I'm excited about it.
I said, if we don't win anyother game of the season, that's
(06:32):
the only game I want to win.
SPEAKER_00 (06:36):
And not like 24
hours after that win was over,
you were looking at the scheduleand you're like you think we're
gonna beat Kansas right
SPEAKER_01 (06:44):
I didn't say that I
said do you think we can beat
Kansas it was looking grimbefore we were going into this
game and I was like the onething that I thought that would
give us a chance was this it hadto have been personal for Rich
Rod because that's the last gamehe coached we all know although
I have to say like I'm at peacewith 13 and 9 now it reminds me
(07:04):
of like remember I'm on theother side of it like remember
when WVU was so good nationalstakes were at on the line so
like we knew he had to win therewas just a lot going on like
we've been so starved for winsand he just took us on a it was
just dramatic Rich Rodrollercoaster of emotions at one
point I was so upset becauseI've been so accustomed the past
(07:26):
six years to when we go downthat we're not going to win that
I like took my glasses off andslammed my phone down I straight
up pouted
SPEAKER_00 (07:32):
and
SPEAKER_01 (07:33):
then WVU was like
there's no quit in us there were
some decisions but again that'swhy I'm not the coach I don't
know and it worked game wentinto overtime WVU wins it was a
great time had by all now I havebeen asked by some of you to and
I'm never going to let them doit because no one's ready for
(07:53):
that to record me watching gamesnow I'll give you the next best
thing though I'm not going toread you all my tweets but I did
screenshot a couple tweets
SPEAKER_00 (08:03):
well by the way
before she gets into these I
just want to make a note thatwhatever she tweeted she was
screaming a thousand times worsestuff at the house.
You were
SPEAKER_01 (08:12):
screaming too.
You were very into it.
We were stressing Marvin
SPEAKER_00 (08:17):
out.
He's like, what is wrong withyou two?
Okay, I don't want to get, Idon't want to go too far down
the rabbit hole here, but I, I'msorry.
If you objectively watch thatgame, the Pitt players were
going down and with injuries, quote unquote, in a manner that
was very much, they were justtrying to slow things down for
(08:38):
WVU.
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
If you're a Pitt fan and youdisagree with me, whatever.
But if that was not your team,if that was against your team
and it was happening the way wewere watching it, you would be
saying the exact same thing.
It just sucks.
It sucks for the game.
And I know they've changed therules to try and prevent it, but
they haven't gone far enough,clearly.
SPEAKER_01 (08:58):
Now that we don't
have an OG golly shucks, but did
you have fun tailgating coach?
Rich Rod actually kind of calledthat out when he was asked about
it.
He said, gee, I hope they'reokay.
I hope they're going to be ableto play.
All right, read your tweets.
All right.
Here's one of them.
WVU is not going to win anothergame all season.
I mean, they might not, but whoknows.
Then everyone can shut up,including me, parentheses, about
(09:21):
putting Scotty Fox in now.
That's our true freshman.
I think he's going to be allright when we go on going
forward, but they tossed him outthere, and I don't know what
they were thinking, threw a picktwice, but you know what?
It's okay.
Then I have a next one thatsays, I am honestly mad that
Pitt played so terrible thefirst half because it's These
(09:41):
mofos made me think there was achance to pull it off.
And I have a gift that talksabout hope being painful.
And then I also said, I will golay down in the street if we
lose by three.
Okay, I have to explain thatbecause now you're going to get
me to rant.
What on earth was up with that?
(10:02):
Okay, so right before the gamegoes into half, one of the Pitt
players gets a personal foul onWVU.
Yeah, later.
the ref comes on the field andis like all right there was a
personal foul against Pitt andwe're like okay so are they
gonna like add time to the clockwhat's going on he's like but
because there's only one secondleft on the clock and WVU has no
(10:23):
timeouts the get the half isover and we're all like excuse
me um that's how theyinterpreted this apparent rule
that needs changed and then Iwas like okay so are we gonna
get like extra yards to startthe half with nothing that is
the worst that might be that andoh I also did tweet the you know
know when I'm fired up when I'mtweeting like the big 12 but
these were ACC officials but I'mlike tweeting the NCAA like
(10:45):
what's up with this rule becauseand then I'm like also my
parents are at a bandcompetition so I'm giving them
game updates so I'm texting mymom who's text or who's sitting
by my dad and telling him mycommentary and my dad's like
tell Hope that they can't end ahalf on a personal foul and I'm
like tell dad the heck theycan't like and I'm like sitting
(11:06):
there and Daniel's like tellthem to text your brother and
he'll explain it so I'm liketrying to explain to them.
Cause their dad's like, there'sno way they would do that.
And we're like, we didn't thinkso either.
SPEAKER_00 (11:16):
What's
SPEAKER_01 (11:18):
up with this rule?
SPEAKER_00 (11:18):
Whatever this rule
was new to me.
It was always my understandingthat a half or a game could not
end on a defensive penalty.
Like if this clock is here, likeif the clock, well, not just a
personal foul.
If the clock is zeros, but thelast play, the defense committed
a penalty.
It was my understanding thatthere was one more underdog.
(11:40):
down in the half of the gamebecause it can't end that way it
was weird so I don't know wherethat when this rule change or
maybe I'm thinking about thatmaybe that's the NFL rule I
don't know
SPEAKER_01 (11:50):
people just can't
read the rule book
SPEAKER_00 (11:52):
but it seems like if
that is truly the way the rule
is intended that is that needsto be changed because it could
be I don't you don't see peopledoing it but what is to stop a
team from having defensiveplayers taking cheap shots at
guys at the end of quarters
SPEAKER_01 (12:08):
for consequence free
SPEAKER_00 (12:09):
yeah
SPEAKER_01 (12:10):
I like how We're
like, we're not going to talk
about this very much.
And then we ran, but that's,that's what the three thing was
because we would have been infield goal range
SPEAKER_00 (12:16):
with the penalty.
The penalty yardage would haveput you in a far field goal, but
a, but a makeable situation.
Yeah.
SPEAKER_01 (12:22):
So anybody that
like, cause I've seen some
people question the car.
I mean, anytime I know W's,there's always going to be like
crazy calls.
I feel like we always get callsagainst us.
You can say all you want aboutthat, but I'm like, y'all got a
free personal foul, but Ihaven't, I will give credit.
Most of the pit fans that I amfriends with, they have not, it
was their couch.
coach was complaining aboutcalls which we got like just as
(12:43):
many terrible calls probably ifnot more we had to beat the refs
we had to beat the NCAA stupidrule it was it was a time but I
will give them credit I feellike they were like calling out
their coach and they werecalling them out for like the
players being soft too I sawthat with the whole injury thing
either you're not hydratedenough or it is a tactic that
(13:03):
just needs to
SPEAKER_00 (13:04):
stop it's the third
game of the season if you're not
if those are real legitimatepeople just cramping up then The
strength and conditioning coachfor Pitt needs to be hung out
because they're not doing theirjob.
SPEAKER_01 (13:17):
But it was a great
game.
I feel like it was very personalto Rich Rodriguez.
It was very personal to a lot ofus.
I have not felt that level, Ithink, of emotion.
I actually cried at the end ofthe game, and I'm not ashamed of
it.
SPEAKER_00 (13:30):
You cried at
multiple points during the game,
too.
For different reasons.
SPEAKER_01 (13:33):
No, I was mad.
I didn't cry.
I was mad.
I pouted.
There's a difference.
But I was so...
I feel like That's the monkeyoff the back for him.
Like he knew, he knew he had towin that game.
He knew he had to win that gameand he did.
And it was, it was one of thosegames that like when your team
is victorious, you're like, wow, that was the best game ever.
And then I got to get to ridethat high all weekend and it was
(13:55):
just great.
It took me back for a second, for a moment.
It felt like the old, the oldtimes.
I don't know what's going tolook like the team going
forward, but it was pretty cool.
Speaking of football, I do haveto shout out my father-in-law
because your dad actually likewe've given him a hard time
because he's He can be– he and Iare probably very much alike
when we watch games, veryemotional.
But he actually said somethingreally nice over the weekend
(14:18):
that– and it's all I've everwanted from Ohio State fans
because the only reason why Iget annoyed with Ohio State is
sometimes I feel like their fansact so like, oh, poor us.
Everyone's against us.
It's just we can't do anything.
And he straight up like textedus and was like, one, he gave
credit to the other team in Ohiothat actually until the very end
(14:39):
seemed to give Ohio state apretty good a pretty good run
and he basically said you knowwith teams like ohio state and
the way college football haschanged like it's like it's
going to be very hard to beatteams like that essentially if
you want to explain more aboutwhat
SPEAKER_00 (14:54):
he's just commenting
on the nil and the money and the
way there's basically superteams now who have all the money
and they just can buy playersand there's nothing to stop them
from just having all the playerseven that's nothing to stop them
from bringing in players theydon't even intend to play on the
field yeah just to keep themfrom other teams because they
can just pay them
SPEAKER_01 (15:11):
it's like a mini nfl
SPEAKER_00 (15:13):
almost and so he was
just commenting that they're
super all i've ever wanted it'schanged football and it seems
and he even went as far as tosay it's fun to root for some of
the teams that aren't that waynow because when they do well it
really means something versusjust a team that's just oh well
like again with ohio state theexpectation on ohio state is be
in the national championshipgame or that is a failure of a
(15:35):
season
SPEAKER_01 (15:36):
if i am a fan of
ohio state based on all the
money i know that we have tobeen and am I not in that title
game every year I am going to beone of the crazy people that's
like what's
SPEAKER_00 (15:44):
going on and this
isn't just Ohio State there are
many other teams out there thathave this problem we just
SPEAKER_01 (15:48):
happen to live next
door to
SPEAKER_00 (15:49):
them
SPEAKER_01 (15:49):
that's why we talk
about them but I had to shout it
out because I know we've kind ofgiven your dad a hard time and
that's exactly that's all I'veever wanted to hear from Ohio
State people is just to admitlike yeah we have a leg up
SPEAKER_00 (16:00):
he'll never even
hear it because he doesn't
listen to the podcast
SPEAKER_01 (16:02):
but maybe
SPEAKER_00 (16:03):
maybe he will all
right you have breaking to move
away from football you havebreaking Bachelor Nation news I
do I can't wait to hear it
SPEAKER_01 (16:12):
well we had
discussed how with the way the
dud that Bachelor in Paradisewas where like this franchise is
just it's it's it's it's goingyou know under it's not great
anymore it's probably dying andI was like they need to do
something to shake it up andthey did so the Secret Lives of
Mormon Wives has basically justtaken over everything it's one
(16:33):
of like I think it was the topwatched like reality TV show
we've got two of the SecretLives of Mormon Wives on Dancing
with the Stars, which premierestoday, because you guys are
listening to this on a Tuesday, premieres this evening.
And I had wondered why TaylorFrankie Paul, she's kind of
like, I would consider her likethe lead.
I was like, why isn't she doingDancing with the Stars?
(16:54):
And I'm like, maybe she didn'twant to do it.
Well, guess what?
Bachelor Nation said, you knowwhat?
We see you.
We hear you.
Taylor Frankie Paul is our newBachelorette.
For one, I love that they'relike, we're not doing another
Bachelor season right now.
Because none of us areinterested in that.
She is going to bring so muchdrama, so much mess.
(17:15):
It's going to be fantastic.
The woman is made for realityTV.
And the thing is, she– you knowhow you have some people you can
tell they, like, try to be– it'sjust her personality.
Like, she's, like, authentic inevery sense of the way.
She's unapologetically herself,which helps.
She knows she's a hot mess.
(17:36):
She owns it.
She doesn't– remember how I was, like, all these contestants on
Bachelor in Paradise?
have such a curated aestheticimage no we're gonna get mess
we're gonna and i think sheknows what she's signing up for
um i would like it for her tofind a nice love story and have
that but she's the woman's gonnamake fantastic tv i'm excited my
friend uh shout out to trina andi we both like texted each other
(17:58):
immediately we're like we've wemanifested this like a year ago
it's gonna be good
SPEAKER_00 (18:04):
very good i'm glad
you're excited i you know i i on
occasion will tune for the firstepisode of The Bachelor slash
Bachelorette.
I don't know that I will doevery episode.
She's the one that was part ofthe
SPEAKER_01 (18:15):
swinging scandal.
SPEAKER_00 (18:16):
I know.
You've covered this.
SPEAKER_01 (18:20):
So grab your dirty
sodas and get ready because
Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, they're just taking over ABC
right now.
SPEAKER_00 (18:26):
Alrighty.
Well, we have been watching sometelevision.
SPEAKER_01 (18:30):
Yeah, speaking of
Hulu, Disney+.
SPEAKER_00 (18:31):
Speaking of Hulu.
First up here, we've got seasonfive of Only Murders in the
Building, a favorite of thispodcast we both are very excited
to have it the first threeepisodes
SPEAKER_01 (18:43):
and this one is
always in talks for the best
thing going for me I feel like Icould literally just watch the
three leads just have a messaround every episode and I'm
going to be fine with it I thinkthe one season we were critical
was where they were the game wassplit up a little bit more which
that would
SPEAKER_00 (19:02):
have been season
four season four was they were
split a little bit season
SPEAKER_01 (19:06):
four was last season
yeah they were together more
last season your thing I'mthinking of season three.
SPEAKER_00 (19:10):
They're all bleeding
together.
SPEAKER_01 (19:12):
Yeah, because season
four we covered on this podcast.
I think we've covered three andfour.
We've covered season three,yeah.
We've covered three and four.
Three was the one they were, Ithink, a little separated.
But I think it was a good ideagiving us the first three
episodes, and then it'll be toweekly release.
So Charles, Oliver, and Mabel, the gang's all here.
We ended the season previouslywith Oliver's wedding.
(19:36):
That's Meryl Streep's character.
I'm sure she's going to make anappearance but she is off in New
Zealand on a project so it kindof picks right up after the
wedding after the wedding thebig sizzler on the previous
season was Lester the doorman ofthe Arconia the building the
apartment building where theyall live in he was found in a
pool of blood in the fountainand then we had a woman played
(19:59):
by I think her name's Tia Leonein real life came up to Charles
and was like hey can you helpinvestigate like my husband's
death and he was like well weonly do like murders in this
building so that's kind of wherethey sizzled us they picked it
up really hit the ground runningright away um trying they're
they're like well we got tofigure out what's going with
lester like was he was hemurdered was it an accident
(20:20):
because they the one guy withthe cat tried to say it was an
accident um lots of shenanigansand then they also they charles
was like well this woman came upto me it sounded very cryptic
and they figured out that shehas like what mob ties right and
then her husband we do find outin one of the episodes, is in
(20:41):
the mob.
And they have a dry cleaningbusiness.
SPEAKER_00 (20:45):
Classic mob.
Classic
SPEAKER_01 (20:47):
mob.
And the dry cleaning business istechnically related to the
casino, which is located, whatis it, under the
SPEAKER_00 (20:55):
Arcadia?
They explained it was like whatthe carriages where the horses
used to be.
But then when cars took over, itgot converted in the 20s into a
casino.
And we find out that that
SPEAKER_01 (21:06):
guy and Lester, like
Lester was kind of helping that
guy out.
and kind of gotten involved withthe mob early in his career
because he needed some money.
So once you get in, I think it'svery hard to get out of, which
every TV show, I don't knowpersonally, but every TV show
movie I've ever seen has kind ofgone over it.
So they're wondering if that'sconnected.
(21:26):
That's kind of our big mysteryright now.
And yeah, that's sort of wherewe're at.
SPEAKER_00 (21:33):
I would like to,
before we move on to our next TV
show, I would like to shout outthe second episode of this first
three.
was kind of a flashback tellingthe story of Lester from when he
got the job as a doorman to theend.
And I feel like I liked that, and I liked it because it was so
early in the season.
Very often in a show, you'll getan episode like that, but it'll
(21:54):
be jammed in the back of theseason when you're trying to
build tension to give all thisbackstory, and it breaks the
pacing of the show.
Putting it here at thebeginning, I thought really did
a good job of, one, giving ussome backstory we needed, but I
think it actually built tensionbecause it explained to us what
was going on and the stakes thatare happening with everybody.
(22:16):
So I really liked it beingthere, and I haven't seen a lot
of shows that, like, the wholeepisode was a flashback through
the years, and it was coolbecause they got, like, Saz
back.
What was the...
SPEAKER_01 (22:28):
The Tim guy from
season one, one of the first
guys that, like, died.
He was back.
I really liked...
I agree with you.
I thought that was a greatepisode, and it really worked
well, so since we did get thosefirst three episodes at once.
Because I could see some peoplebe like, oh, a flashback.
But I think I would have beenfine with it even if we hadn't
had another episode to go to.
I really liked seeing them gothrough the years.
(22:51):
They had the Y2K thing.
They had clearly Oliver andCharles looking younger.
Like, young Mabel.
So I thought that was reallyinteresting.
And you kind of saw all theresidents of the Arcarnia.
Like, these characters we'vegotten to know throughout the
seasons of the show.
We got to see them through likethe lens of the doorman and I
(23:11):
thought that was really nice andI honestly I like obviously he's
a big part of the story theywant to figure out what's going
on we have like the mob is itmob or mafia are they the same
thing okay we have thoseconnections the connections with
the building so I think that'sprobably why they did that
flashback episode a littleearlier because that we need it
to know going forward yeah Idon't really know like at this
(23:35):
point I couldn't tell you wherethe season was going oh Nathan
Lane
SPEAKER_00 (23:37):
he showed up I was
trying to think about I didn't
want to spit out Nathan until Ihad the name, but that was who I
was thinking about.
Yes, which was good
SPEAKER_01 (23:42):
because he was such
a major character.
I'm excited.
SPEAKER_00 (23:46):
Yeah.
It was a good start to theseason.
Like I said, I don't have anysuspects yet.
I think that knowing this show, they haven't even really given
us any super huge hints yet, sowe'll see where it goes.
Now, this next one.
I want to make a statement righthere.
We don't do a video podcast, butif we ever did a video podcast,
(24:07):
I would demand that Hope and Ido an opening credits yes in the
way of this show so we are goingto talk right now about HBO
Max's own Peacemaker season oneand then we'll get to season two
here in a minute
SPEAKER_01 (24:22):
and this is from
James Gunn who is now with DC a
lot of Marvel fans would knowhim from Guardians of the Galaxy
but he also just recently didSuperman which came out I
believe in July this past Julyand Peacemaker stars John Cena
and we first meet Peacemaker inthe Suicide Squad movies and
(24:45):
yeah the opening sequencesthey're not really related to
the show but oh my gosh I lovedthe season the season one opener
is still my favorite it's like awhole dance sequence it kind of
reminds me of like the Bollywoodthings they do but like the end
of those movies but this is likebefore the show starts and we
have a whole different song andsequence for season two which
we'll get into I know you'relike why are you talking about
SPEAKER_00 (25:06):
season two this is
one of those shows that I have
been badgering hope to watch formonths
SPEAKER_01 (25:13):
yeah but aren't you
glad we waited because then we
didn't have to automatically
SPEAKER_00 (25:16):
go right I'm glad
that we waited because that way
we had a little bit of seasontwo to go to but she it's just I
it's fun to me because youstarted the first couple
episodes and you're like I likeit it's fun but I don't need to
immediately we finished it andyou're this is like on the top
of your list right now
SPEAKER_01 (25:33):
yeah I wouldn't say
it's my best thing going but it
was something other like that Iwas super looking forward to
like we actually like I was soexcited for Only Murders to come
back but I had to get like inthat mindset again and once once
we started watching it we'relike okay we'll pick up
Peacemaker again later but wewere both kind of like itching
to keep going with Peacemakerbecause those last few episodes
of season one were great I thinka lot of the characters you said
(25:56):
did show up in Suicide Squadwhich that's the movie I haven't
seen either Suicide Squad one ortwo I don't think you
necessarily need to see those Iwas I'm familiar enough to know
who Amanda Waller is yeah that'sViola Davis's character And then
Peacemaker did show up for a fewminutes in the, probably a few
seconds in the Superman
SPEAKER_00 (26:15):
movie.
Yeah, he was in the Supermanmovie for a few seconds.
Which
SPEAKER_01 (26:17):
according to you,
his scenes in the Superman movie
take place after season one, butbefore season
SPEAKER_00 (26:22):
two.
Yes, that's what I've been toldby the internet is the
chronological order.
SPEAKER_01 (26:26):
This show is great.
I think it's really funny.
So even if you're not a bigsuperhero person, but if you
like comedy, you'll like it.
But it's not just, I thoughtwhen you first described to me
that it was just going to beslapstick funny funny funny the
whole time it's actually quiteemotional like it's brought
tears to my eyes a couple timesI love the team the team that
(26:48):
has been assembled my favoriteis Vigilante Adrian he is played
by the actor I think it's Freddysomething I don't remember his
last name but you would know himbest as Cormac and McLagan that
is the name of Harry Potter theone that was always that was
going after Keeper against Ronhe is the prince in Bridgerton
(27:10):
he was in Pitch Perfect for Ididn't realize this guy's like a
chameleon but I've never foundhim cute until now and now with
his like American accent I guessand normally I go the other way
I like your British accentbetter and the darker hair and
the glasses and his clearly youknow on the spectrum personality
but his just genuine smile I'mlike oh I love him he's my
(27:31):
favorite he's my favoritecharacter we've got Harcourt she
is that actress is married toJames Gunn in real life.
I've seen a lot of comments thatare like, she's basically going
to be the love interest for JohnCena's character, Chris Smith,
who plays the Peacemaker.
And I've seen a lot of peoplesaying like, oh, James Gunn just
really wrote a fanfic with hiswife and John Cena.
(27:52):
Yeah.
Oh, we've got Economist.
SPEAKER_00 (27:57):
Dyebeard.
SPEAKER_01 (27:57):
Dyebeard.
Not Ginger Cool, though.
Don't call him that later.
SPEAKER_00 (28:01):
Etta Bayou.
SPEAKER_01 (28:02):
Etta Bayou.
SPEAKER_00 (28:03):
She's Waller's
daughter, which we find out.
Daughter,
SPEAKER_01 (28:05):
yes.
And she is, I forget thatactress's name, but she was
probably best known for Orangeis the New Black.
That's where you would have seenher before.
She played Tasty in that show.
I don't know what some of theother characters were.
Well, the villain in season one,he was actually not the villain,
I guess.
We thought he might bevillainous.
He played the kind of leader oftheir team in season one.
(28:26):
He was the villain in the thirdGuardians of the Galaxy movie,
so that's where we had seen himpreviously.
And
SPEAKER_00 (28:34):
then Eagly.
We can't forget Eagly, his eaglesidekick.
We
SPEAKER_01 (28:38):
love Eagle.
We love Eagly.
We love Eagly.
If anything happens to Eagly, weriot.
Who's your favorite character sofar?
SPEAKER_00 (28:47):
I really like
Economist.
I do like him.
He's funny, and I just vibe withhim.
You knew I was going
SPEAKER_01 (28:54):
to vibe with
Vigilante.
SPEAKER_00 (28:55):
Oh, yeah, of course.
SPEAKER_01 (28:58):
Ask me some facts
about owls.
SPEAKER_00 (29:01):
I'm not going to go
too deep into what the show's
about.
I agree.
I kind of had a little bit moreunderstanding of what the show
was going in but I do agree withyou that like I was surprised at
how heartfelt it was consideringthe kind of ridiculous like
stuff that's happening and theridiculous scenarios that
they're in and all the thingsgoing back and forth but at the
(29:23):
end of the day it is telling areally human story about people
not just Peacemaker buteverybody's going through their
own stuff and if you likefriendship and
SPEAKER_01 (29:30):
team building like
you really like they feel like a
family
SPEAKER_00 (29:34):
down with the 11th
street kids
SPEAKER_01 (29:35):
yes that was
probably the best episode where
they referenced that once againif you're familiar with James
Gunn's work the music is toptier no no it's such good music
SPEAKER_00 (29:45):
and how about that
the last episode of the season
when the opening credit songkicks in in the actual show and
I'm really hoping that happensagain and they repeat that again
in season two because it justall of a sudden really
SPEAKER_01 (29:57):
hyped up it really
did and like we know that we're
generally a spoiler podcast youguys know this but I don't want
to give away too much of thisshow I just want to say like go
check it out because it's reallyit's honestly this is a show
where it's hard to explain theplot because I have to explain a
lot of DC backstory, whichyou'll get when you watch.
SPEAKER_00 (30:14):
It's not that it's a
complicated plot.
It's just for me, the plot isbackseat to watching these
characters go through, develop, and have the journey that
they're on.
And it's just really well done.
SPEAKER_01 (30:25):
And if you're
somebody that you're like, I
don't like superhero stuff,Hannah, you would like this.
It's just a show.
I'll watch King of the Hill ifyou watch Peacemaker.
SPEAKER_00 (30:34):
How about that?
Challenge extended.
we await your answer
SPEAKER_01 (30:40):
did you did we ever
talk about the quote about
Riverdale
SPEAKER_00 (30:43):
oh no we didn't we
didn't talk about that
SPEAKER_01 (30:46):
so they're going
through one scene in season one
where he's like it could beanybody and he's like it could
be the Khloe Kardashian it couldbe such and such it could be
such and such and then he saidsomething that we're like eating
dinner while we're watching thisI nearly choked on my food I
don't want to say it he said itcould be the c-u-n-t's from
Riverdale a show I used to watchthat went wildly off the rails
(31:08):
and it was even so funnierbecause one of the guys that
plays one of the detectives orcops in Peacemaker was literally
Betty's dad, the Black Hood onRiverdale.
And I'm like, you have an actorthat was on Riverdale.
So I thought that was great.
Yeah, like honestly, so good.
The way the season one ended, italways ends up like the classic
(31:28):
of maybe the team's going to bebroken up.
We're going to go our separateways, but they still had that
connection.
And do you just want to go aheadand jump right into season two?
SPEAKER_00 (31:36):
Yeah.
All right.
I'm going to say it right nowseason two because this is the
most okay if you're coming intoPeacemaker everybody who watches
Peacemaker knows this but ifyou're not if you haven't
watched Peacemaker before thenyou don't know this the opening
sorry Gesundheit the openingcredits are the most important
(31:57):
thing about the show yes eventhough they have absolutely no
relevance on the plot of theshow I it
SPEAKER_01 (32:02):
shows you like every
character is going to show up
isn't
SPEAKER_00 (32:06):
it yeah it even
shows you characters you haven't
met in the show yet
SPEAKER_01 (32:08):
Even if you have a
teeny tiny role, you're going
SPEAKER_00 (32:10):
to be in the
comments.
I like the music from season twobetter than season one, but the
dance in season one was better.
SPEAKER_01 (32:18):
I think I'm starting
to come around to that.
At first, I was like, no,because I'm very set in my ways.
I'm having what happened to mewith the White Lotus.
I'm like, no, give me theoriginal song and the original
dance.
But then by about the time we'veseen the first four episodes,
because unfortunately now we'recaught up, by about episode
four, I'm really starting tovibe with the song.
But I still agree.
I like the choreo.
Yeah.
(32:38):
choreography better from season
SPEAKER_00 (32:39):
one and no matter
what when you start the episode
you get that couple of minutesof sizzle before the credits
start and every time the creditsstart kicking in it's just hype
you want to get up you want todance with it it's exciting it's
just something to really lookforward to and it should
SPEAKER_01 (32:54):
drop on
SPEAKER_00 (32:54):
Thursday I am
excited for Thursday because I
want to see I want to see whatthey're getting into and I want
to hit them credits
SPEAKER_01 (33:01):
same I'm very
excited I cannot wait and we'll
have probably more to say we'llprobably start talking about I
guess each episode maybe I don'tknow we'll see
SPEAKER_00 (33:09):
yeah just real quick
about the four episodes we've
watched there was a long hiatusbetween seasons because James
Gunn did season one but after heleft Marvel but before he was
officially like in charge of allof DC and then so all of that
stuff has happened in betweenthere you know the the fallout
(33:30):
with Henry Cavill and everythingthat went down with there and
him being put in charge creatingan entire Superman movie no not
a fallout just Just the way thatthey had to say, hey, sorry, we
can't really, we're not going touse you for Superman anymore and
that kind of stuff.
And so it's been a long time, but I feel like they really
picked up well and it feels likethe same show with the same
(33:52):
characters.
Well, at the
SPEAKER_01 (33:53):
end of season one,
the Justice League shows up and
they change it and call it theJustice Gang.
And they swapped out, because weactually had Aquaman, Jason
Momoa, and the guy who wasplaying the Flash show up at the
end of season one.
And then they scrapped that andthey have the Green Lantern and
Hulk.
hot girl who showed up inSuperman.
They
SPEAKER_00 (34:11):
swapped those out.
And I think that was a kind of afun little wink.
How many years
SPEAKER_01 (34:13):
was between it?
I
SPEAKER_00 (34:14):
think it was like
three years.
SPEAKER_01 (34:16):
Well, I'm glad I
only had to wait like a day.
SPEAKER_00 (34:17):
I think it was the
way they did it was like a catch
up from season one.
And it was a really like justkind of a nice wink of like,
hey, we know some stuff has gonedown.
We're not going to address itother than this right here.
And I thought that was a coolway to do it.
Because when I first was hearingabout all that before I had
watched the show, I knew theywere going to be doing like some
dimensional travel stuff.
Yeah.
And I thought maybe that's theywere going to explain it is that
(34:39):
he was going to travel to thenew the new DC you or whatever
it was but no they didn't dothat they were just like yeah
it's wink he's been there thewhole time so I thought that was
kind of
SPEAKER_01 (34:49):
funny that's kind of
like I feel like this is like
the DC's version almost of themultiverse maybe I feel like
that's kind of what the
SPEAKER_00 (34:56):
yeah but I also
thought it was James Gunn
winking being like hey guysguess what it's not that serious
have fun with it
SPEAKER_01 (35:03):
but like I'm talking
about like the plot of the show
right now with the doors we'reexploring what they would be in
the multi Yeah.
Speaking of my wild tweets, Istopped tweeting.
My last tweet about the WVU gameon Saturday was our defense has
certainly impressed me.
I was proud of their effortslast week to keep it up.
And then I'm like, Peacemaker issuch a good TV show.
Just started season two in themiddle of like WVU, like
(35:26):
football game commentary.
Do you know that I actually didpick up followers from that,
though?
People must like the crazy.
I don't know.
I
SPEAKER_00 (35:35):
apparently I did.
So
SPEAKER_01 (35:36):
you're like, okay.
Adrian I love spiders and thenshe's like Adrian would love
this peacemaker they all feellike a family
SPEAKER_00 (35:45):
they do yeah yeah
the only thing I'll say about
season two so far is that he'straveling between his universe
which is the regular DC universeand some other DC universe where
his dad and his brother arealive and nice and nice and yeah
maybe and all I want to say isand I've seen a lot of chatter
online too so I think I'm prettysolid on this something is weird
(36:06):
something's going on over therethat not right and I think that
we're gonna the veil is gonna bepulled sometime soon
SPEAKER_01 (36:12):
yes well we think
well his dad is like basically a
what like a white supremacist orsomething like that was kind of
like a superhero thing and we'venoticed that when they're in the
other world it is only whitepeople
SPEAKER_00 (36:24):
yeah
SPEAKER_01 (36:25):
so I don't know
maybe it's just it could just be
your casual like we haven't castanybody else but I feel like
with James Gunn it's intentional
SPEAKER_00 (36:31):
no because look at
the team in the regular universe
because we're seeing the Argusteam yes in both the universes
look at the team in the regularuniverse we look used to look at
the teams that we see in thatuniverse exactly something weird
is going on
SPEAKER_01 (36:45):
oh and if you are a
longtime listener of this
podcast you know that DonCheadle is not in Mean Girls but
guess what what is his name inreal life Tim
SPEAKER_00 (36:54):
Tim Meadows
SPEAKER_01 (36:55):
Tim Meadows is in
Mean Girls and he's also in
Peacemaker season two and he'salready delivered me so many
fantastic liners let's see goplay your Pokemon instead of
Pokemon um Ginger Cool.
It's a housewarming gift.
SPEAKER_00 (37:12):
It was a meta duck.
SPEAKER_01 (37:14):
It was a meta.
I have bird blindness.
This is what you guys aremissing out.
Please
SPEAKER_00 (37:18):
go watch this show.
We won't spoil anything else.
But yeah, we'll be continuing totalk about that.
I think we're halfway through.
There were eight episodes inseason one.
So I'm assuming there's eightepisodes in season two.
Really excited.
If you've got HBO Max, go watchPeacemaker.
Again, Hope said it earlier.
You don't have to be a superherofan because that's not what the
show is about.
It's a show about people whohappen to also be superheroes
SPEAKER_01 (37:40):
and speaking of
Thursday because it's going to
fulfill the Thursday slot nowthat Star Trek Strange New
Worlds has wrapped its seasonthree we are going let's go
right into there are our summerI turn Vulcan series and we will
kick it off with Star TrekStrange New Worlds because the
finale has come and gone and nowwe have the long wait for season
(38:02):
four what did you think
SPEAKER_00 (38:05):
and we've talked
about this a little bit off
offline you know it was a Ithink kind of a letdown of a
season finale I thought therewere some good moments to it
obviously it wrapped up theBattelle storyline as we kind of
thought it was going to
SPEAKER_01 (38:22):
not the way I
thought it was
SPEAKER_00 (38:23):
going to no not the
way I thought it was going to I
think there were some greatmoments in it I certainly and of
course you're you were pointingand screaming at the screen at
the end when the music startedplaying for the for the final
montage but I think that it wasinteresting that the way that
they closed this episode reallyfelt like when they did it, they
weren't sure if they weregetting a season four.
(38:46):
So, but there were some greatSpock and Kirk moments.
Yes.
And so, you know.
Spork.
Spork.
Overall, you know, a goodepisode, not a great episode.
But, you know, I'm lookingforward to season four.
I
SPEAKER_01 (39:02):
think I definitely
agree with you.
I feel like the finale did falla little flat, but it reminded
me of what you said about thefinale of Agatha back last fall
that we had that great episodeand then the last episode just
felt kind of flat and I feellike the episode last week with
Ortegas and the Gorn I felt likethat was probably one of the
(39:24):
best episodes of Strange NewWorlds to date and it was so
powerful and impactful thatanything I think was going to
feel a little flat
SPEAKER_00 (39:33):
after that.
I think that's the trouble isthat they had that's one of the
great like probably one of thebest Strange New Worlds episodes
and it's up there in the StarTrek canon of episodes where
that was a really good episodevery
SPEAKER_01 (39:43):
good episode
SPEAKER_00 (39:44):
to then follow that
up with a story that it felt
like I
SPEAKER_01 (39:47):
think objectively
that's the best episode like my
favorite so it's going to be themusical episode but I think that
is the best episode of it and tofollow it up with that finale
that being said like I feel likeif I had to pick a main
character on the show it isChristopher Pike right so he
usually starts the season andends it and I will say this I
was saying like I don't want tohave a finale that's it's gonna
(40:08):
sizzle me and then start me offwith a bummer of a premiere so
they were like they did they diddo that for me because we we we
could start off the premiere forseason four and we don't we
don't we didn't have a sizzlermoment like it can pick up you
know obviously what happenedwith Battelle who didn't die by
the way who was it Tiny Tim
SPEAKER_00 (40:26):
who didn't die
SPEAKER_01 (40:27):
Battelle who didn't
die but now like this statue
lady repelling evil of the worldI'm not really sure what's going
on I
SPEAKER_00 (40:37):
have some For a
purpose.
The way that all went down, Ifelt like was a little...
Odd.
Unusual.
Writers were like, let's just...
How do
SPEAKER_01 (40:45):
we write her off
without killing her off?
What are we going to do?
Because, canonically, that isnot who he ends up with.
Correct.
I did think it was veryinteresting.
They made it a point to tell usseveral times in that episode
about how time can workdifferently.
Yeah.
Like, the contracts of time.
Because there is this part whereshe makes it out.
Like, she's able to save theworld from it.
(41:06):
The whole thing...
the guy that lost his eye likethe evil people that all came
back and she so there's thislike scenario where she was able
to defeat that and they wereable to get married live
together have children and webasically go through all their
lives and he's still rockingsome great fine hair when he's
clearly like you know elderlyand then she passes away and
(41:27):
then suddenly it's like almostlike she gave him that like
vision like this is what itcould have been but to him you
could tell like when he whenthey snapped in back like to the
normal timeline we're on that itfelt like he had lived all that
time yeah so I think that thebest way to start the new season
would be to have a healthy timejump because I'm sorry I don't
want to see depressed Pike thewhole time I think he's one of
(41:49):
the ultimately I think he's oneof the best leaders in Star Trek
like we always talk about whichcaptain's the best and I think
they all have their own likeunique skill set I think for me
I would want to work forsomebody like him the most
because he like his liketeaching style his leadership
style actually speaks to me evenmore than the great kirk and
(42:09):
picard he's just so likelevel-headed and calm but also
understands emotions like and iwas impressed with because we
meet pike in the kelvin universeright yes i liked pike in the
kelvin universe too so i thinklike he's a really good captain
and a good leader and i don'twant to see just him be mopey
and i feel like that scene atthe end where they're all like
you know we're there for you ithink that that was a good
(42:32):
moment and he's going to be okaybut i would like to see a time
jump moving forward andhopefully I think one of my
biggest criticisms of StrangeNew Worlds is that the premieres
always seem like a dud to me andthen we get into really good
episodes and maybe we can avoidall that I definitely agree with
you it absolutely felt like theytried to tie up loose ends they
even had that line like wellwe've got five years to explore
(42:53):
which is the part like it wasfive years so we know we're
getting the five seasons back tothe song you mentioned so Mr.
Paul Wesley who plays CaptainKirk on Strange New Worlds is
also probably most known I'mgonna say as Stefan Salvatore on
a show I call The VampireDiaries or we all call The
Vampire Diaries.
SPEAKER_00 (43:12):
Do other people call
it something else?
SPEAKER_01 (43:14):
No.
And, well, it's a fussy.
We're not going there.
We're not going there.
We're not going there.
Anyway, one of the best scenesin The Vampire Diaries is where
Damon, I'm not going to get intohow he gets there, but there's a
thing called The Prison World.
Damon's trapped.
Stefan thinks Damon's dead.
Like, dead, dead.
I know they're vampires.
It's a thing.
(43:34):
But he thinks he's never goingto see Damon again.
So we've got Stefan in theirfamily crypt like basically
being like I'm so lost withoutyou brother I miss you so much
and he throws the bottle ofbourbon and Damon catches it and
he's like like Damon how am Iseeing you right now and he's
like it's me and they hugbecause like ultimately while we
always had the love triangle theheart of the show was the love
(43:55):
that the Salvatore brothersStefan and Damon have for each
other and I don't know what thename of the song is but every
time I hear that song I think ofthat scene so suddenly I'm on
Star Trek and I'm like oh mygosh they're playing I'm like,
did Paul Wesley be like, usethis song?
Because now I've seen and I'vecried twice over Paul Wesley
with this song.
(44:15):
I wish I knew what the name ofthe song was.
If
SPEAKER_00 (44:18):
only there were a
way to find out.
SPEAKER_01 (44:19):
The song is called
Wait by M83.
But it's very good.
SPEAKER_00 (44:25):
Oh, I know the M83.
I have a lot of stuff of theirson my Spotify list.
SPEAKER_01 (44:30):
Well, they picked a
banger of a song and now I've
had to cry to Paul Wesley tothis song twice.
And it's kind of Like, obviously, Una's there for Pike
with the drink.
And then, of course, we get, like you said, the Spock-Kirk
scene.
Because they had to do theVulcan mind meld.
SPEAKER_00 (44:47):
They had to do a
mind meld to coordinate the
ships and be perfect.
And it was a whole thing just toget Kirk and Spock closer
together.
And he was like,
SPEAKER_01 (44:53):
be gentle.
And I'm like, ah! And then they, like, stared into each other's
eyes.
And they clearly, I think, bothknow that both of them, like,
have a thing with Lon, which isa whole other thing.
I'm like, I've never reallyrooted for a thropple in a show.
But I'm like, I'd be down.
SPEAKER_00 (45:05):
Well, you finally
said to me the thing in this
episode that's the ship that'sthe ship Kirk and Spock is the
ship yes
SPEAKER_01 (45:13):
my wish is going
forward I've got to meet McCoy
at some point they must cast himI
SPEAKER_00 (45:19):
can't imagine that
they've got so we've got season
four is confirmed and seasonfive will be shortened but we'll
get six episodes in season fiveI cannot imagine that we go
through all that without gettingMcCoy if you
SPEAKER_01 (45:30):
could think of any
actor out of thin air who would
SPEAKER_00 (45:32):
you cast I don't I
hate doing that I wouldn't know
yeah because I never would havecome up up with Paul Wesley for
Kirk and he's doing a great jobso I'm just going to let the
casting I'm just going to letthe casting directors of this
show do their thing becausethey've been I love the cast
everybody in this show is greatand they've always done a great
job with getting people in
SPEAKER_01 (45:53):
the only thing we
don't like are the wigs that
they make sure
SPEAKER_00 (45:56):
but that's costuming
so I'm just going to let the
casting directors do their thingand go with it
SPEAKER_01 (46:02):
all right well might
have been a flat finale but an
overall great season so movie onwe have the summer I turn pretty
season three I'm talking to youguys about episode 10 we have
the finale which will be theseries finale coming this
Wednesday and these last fewepisodes have been so good this
(46:23):
one was I keep saying like thiswas my favorite I think this
might be my favorite we had ourfull-blown actual belly in Paris
arc she is now in Paris she isworking she's found a job she's
found some roommates and atfirst you see that she's
struggling to adapt she's stillstruggling with the language her
roommates like take her coffeelike they don't save her any
(46:43):
she's trying to like you knowconnect with them but it we
basically have a year passed byof time and she gets more and
more comfortable really fine isfinding herself there and it's
just it's everything I wanted tosee for this character because I
feel like she's been so stuntedin and she needed to go away
like everybody that's like oh Iwant her with Conrad right away
(47:05):
no this needed to happen sheneeded to get away from even her
mom even the Fisher brothersthat to really go find herself
because she a lot of people findthemselves in college and she
didn't really do that becauseshe was stuck in a codependent
relationship with Jeremiah andyou find that you know he's
still not really speaking to herbut that changes later on in the
episode Stephen and Taylor aresolid they're moving in together
(47:29):
they're having friends givingtogether Thanksgiving it's it's
I'm so happy with them I reallyhope that Jenny's not gonna pull
a fast one on me and break himup I think they're in a really
good place and suddenly I thinkI like Jeremiah when he's not
with belly and when he's notbothering me like so we have
Jeremiah starting off theepisode as usual being annoying
(47:50):
but I'm like okay whatever he'ssad but he's just being a
classic man child well Adam hisdad is like I'm cut like he cuts
him off so Jeremiah is forced togo get a job he's working in a
restaurant because he's alwaysexpressed interest in cooking
like his crash out about thecake belly the cacao was part of
the bean or whatever he sayswhere he's like this is the one
thing I wanted we all made funof like his how much he wanted
(48:12):
this like certain cake scene ifyou know you know um so he has
expressed interest in cooking soright now he might be working in
the kitchen cutting onions anddoing stuff but he's he's
actually he's not relying ondaddy's money he's um he was
couch surfing and was staying atStephen's apartment but now he's
staying with Denise's apartmentwho works with Stephen they're
(48:33):
going to go do their own littlestartup they finally quit Adam's
company because they were allworking there together and there
were some things that saidDenise and Jeremiah could
possibly have a thing and I waslike yeah right I don't see it
at all because I thought Denisewas really going to be the foil
to Steven and Taylor and they wethought she was but then it
turned out to be a big fatnothing burger and can I just
say like the five minute sceneof Jeremiah and Denise was more
(48:57):
meaningful than any conversationI've ever seen Jeremiah and
Belly have so the jellyfishpeople if you want Jeremiah to
be happy I think this is the wayto go like I can't believe that
it jenny because the whole timei'm like well if jeremiah is
going to end up with somebodyhow's it even going to like be
believable right like with solittle time i'm telling you that
like five minute conversationwith them sold put me on the
(49:19):
ship and i don't know what it iswith men and slutty glasses
because suddenly i'm likejeremiah's hot where did this
come from in his depressivesweatpants and slutty
SPEAKER_00 (49:27):
glasses i don't know
i gotta ask what makes are you
SPEAKER_01 (49:30):
pausing the show or
pausing
SPEAKER_00 (49:31):
pausing you pausing
your mouth for a Slutty little
glasses on a guy for me.
What is that?
I need to know.
I need to understand.
Because you also said that aboutJonathan Bailey and his glasses
that he had in the Jurassic Parkmovie.
It's a
SPEAKER_01 (49:46):
thing.
It's just you either got it oryou don't.
Okay.
You have sassy glasses.
Oh, okay.
Not slutty.
Not slutty glasses.
There's a difference.
I do like you with glasses, though.
SPEAKER_00 (49:58):
Oh, you're blurry.
I'm not wearing my glasses.
No wonder.
I was like, where are they?
Oh, they're right there.
I'm still struggling.
I made it to 40 years withoutglasses.
I still have
SPEAKER_01 (50:07):
like the smallest
prescription I've ever seen your
glasses feel like the test modelanyway slutty glasses and
Jeremiah two thumbs up Iactually even if he and Denise
aren't in game that was a reallygreat scene um I but I think the
chemistry is there and if thatif that ends up being a thing
I'd buy it we finally gotJeremiah and Conrad all I've
(50:29):
really wanted to is I wanted thebrothers to make some type of
piece and they do they meet atSusanna's grave um by accident
of course but it was theanniversary of her death so of
course they were both there andthey hashed it out like I feel
like one of my thing and thebiggest annoyances of Conrad is
he has been letting everybodysteamroll him and he said you
(50:49):
know what Jeremiah you starteddating her like two seconds
after we broke up how do youthink that made me feel and like
she's not a prize because Ithink a lot of the reasons why
the codependency that Jeremiahand Belly had together I think
some of it was Conrad is thepreferred brother he seems to be
the one that's good ateverything and I think for
Jeremiah it was a competitionand I that was pointed out and
(51:11):
they had a really goodconversation I don't think
they're going to be you knowperfect at any chance at any
time yet but it was nice to seethe boys hug it was nice to they
both were like wow like talkingabout their mom's last wishes
and they're like well we bothreally screwed up that haven't
we and I think they're going tobe okay and then Jeremiah even
said you know I'm not going tobe happy about it but if if you
(51:33):
want if you want really arestill into Belly because he's
like, I always knew there was aforce field between you guys.
He's like, you better dosomething before it's not too
late.
So Conrad has to go to Brusselsfor work.
He is, you know, living his bestdoctor life now.
We've had this time jump.
And he says, I don't care howmuch it costs.
And he books the ticket and he'sgoing to go to Paris.
Also, we have the scene of Bellygetting a haircut, which there
(51:56):
was a scene earlier in theseason where Jeremiah's like,
never cut your hair.
And I was like, oh, she's goingto cut her hair at the end.
Now she, Belly did finally hookup with a man whose last name
isn't Fisher, Benito.
That happened in the books.
is a thing it was just a fling Iactually like Benito clearly I
don't think they're going to beend game by any chance but it
was nice to see Belly having funit was nice to see Taylor
visiting Belly and she I think Idon't know what's going to go
(52:18):
down with this Paris meeting butI'm excited for it I can't wait
my predictions for the finalethey say it's going to end a
little different than the booksif I had to guess this is what I
think is going to go down Ithink that Conrad's going to
meet her there she's going to behappy to see them and I think
they might even kiss and but Ithink Belly might be like you
know I want to stay in Paris Idon't feel like I'm ready to
(52:40):
come home yet I feel likethere's more you know to explore
and then I think we're going tohave another time jump and
they're going to be back inCousins Beach and I think that
they will enough time will havepassed maybe they'll be there
for some event I don't know andI think that they will
officially be together then I donot think we're going to get the
wedding like we got in the bookbut I think we're going to get
(53:03):
some more now there's sometheories that we're going to get
some bonus episodes becauseJenny Han likes to be like
Taylor Swift like the Eastereggs I don't think we're going
to be that lucky but I do hopethat most of this episode we are
going to get some belly Conradscenes because one of my biggest
frustrations with the show is Ifeel like we barely ever got to
see them together that was oneof my biggest frustrations with
the book and I need it to bemore than just like oh two
(53:24):
seconds at the end here we aretogether so that's what I think
is going to happen I think theyare going to have some romantic
fun in Paris I think they're notI think they're going to part
ways and then I think they'regoing to come together at the
end and then I think you mightsee Jeremiah off with Denise and
it might be a hint that they'retogether I don't know maybe
maybe I'll get really lucky andthey'll come be coming together
for Steven and Taylor's weddingI don't know I think we're gonna
(53:45):
have a couple time jumps but I'mexcited for the summer I turned
SPEAKER_00 (53:49):
we'll mark it down
everybody it's on the record if
she is wrong next week everybodylet her know about it
SPEAKER_01 (53:54):
now if I don't get a
bond right in game though we
riot at dawn baby all
SPEAKER_00 (54:01):
righty let's see
well that's all the shows that
we've been watching this week wegot a couple things we're
looking forward to coming uphere so as Hope mentioned
earlier in the episode the daythis not the day this is
recording but the day that thisis airing Dancing with Stars
will be back season 34
SPEAKER_01 (54:17):
is it I feel like
it's always been on Mondays was
it on
SPEAKER_00 (54:20):
Tuesday last year
yeah it has always been on
Mondays maybe there's somethinggoing on today that is keeping
them from it I don't know
SPEAKER_01 (54:27):
I don't know well it
says it's going to be on Tuesday
the rest of the season because Ilooked that up to make sure
because sometimes if Mondaynight football they don't want
to conflict I don't know I'mgoing to go through the cast
list really quickly we've gotJen Affleck not related to Ben
Affleck but she is just did acommercial for Dunkin Donuts
with Ben Affleck which I thinkwas great that is one of our
secret lives of Mormon wives inseason one they claim they were
(54:47):
related to Ben Affleck seasontwo it was like never mind no or
not and it's a whole thing ifyou know you know she is
partnered with Jan he is the newpro he is one of Taylor Swift's
former dancers so I think she'sgoing to be pulling in the
Swifty vote we have HilariaHilaria is that her name Baldwin
Alec Baldwin's wife played withGleb she's one of the only ones
that has ballroom danceexperience but I don't know if
(55:07):
she's going to have the fanvote.
What do you think?
SPEAKER_00 (55:09):
Uh, considering I've
never heard of her before this.
No,
SPEAKER_01 (55:12):
we have Jordan
Childs, Olympic, um, gymnast,
Olympic gold medalist who ispaired with Ezra Sosa.
I love Ezra.
Ezra's finally getting him agood partner.
Baron Davis.
That is an NBA point guard.
I do not know this man.
He is a partner with Brit.
SPEAKER_00 (55:27):
I've heard the name,
but I'm not, I couldn't, I
can't, I can't picture him.
SPEAKER_01 (55:31):
I'm surprised they
gave her an older person again.
I think he's older.
He watched him be like 40.
Um, We have Alex Earl.
She has a social mediapersonality.
You probably haven't heard ofher.
I hadn't really heard of her,but I'm telling you right now,
she's like Charli D'Amelio levelfamous from TikTok.
All the Gen Z knows who she is.
She's paired with Val.
I also think she has danceexperience.
SPEAKER_00 (55:50):
Not to stretch this
out, but I just have to make an
observation.
It is so odd to me.
Every time Charli and now thisperson, and you're like, they're
TikTok famous.
They're huge on TikTok.
I am on TikTok all the time.
They're probably not coming upin your algorithm.
Ever.
SPEAKER_01 (56:05):
Your algorithm.
is like mental illness in my dogvideos.
So I don't know.
They're probably not coming upin there.
Hey,
SPEAKER_00 (56:12):
some Star Trek shows
up every now and then as well.
SPEAKER_01 (56:14):
I've been getting
Star Trek edits.
Excellent.
Thank you for
SPEAKER_00 (56:17):
that, by the way.
Sorry, sorry.
Get back to it.
SPEAKER_01 (56:19):
Sorry.
All right.
And Gen Z, that's what theywatch.
They don't watch like normal TV.
Dylan Efron, Zac Efron'sbrother, reality television
personality from Daniel'sfavorite Emmy award-winning, by
the way, show Traders, partneredwith Daniela.
If he can move like his brother,Daniel will be a good partner
for him.
Corey Feldman, known from TheGoonies, a movie that neither of
us have seen
SPEAKER_00 (56:37):
he was also
Donatello's voice in the
original Ninja Turtles movie
SPEAKER_01 (56:40):
and in the movie I
bet they dance to Stand By Me if
he makes it because he's also inStand By Me I don't think he's
going to make it that far he'spaired with last year's winner
Jenna Johnson so they're likewe're not giving you someone who
can win Danielle Fischel fromBoy Meets World Miss Topanga
Lawrence is paired with Pasha Ithink she could be pretty good I
did not care for somebody beinglike well she's an old
contestant I was like excuse methat's Topanga put some respect
(57:03):
on Topanga baby I
SPEAKER_00 (57:04):
can't speak for her
dancing ability but she
certainly will have a votinggroup of people.
When I get to the point of theseason where I start putting
votes in, I could see myselfvoting for her if she's still
around.
SPEAKER_01 (57:17):
I thought you were
going to say she's got people
because she's Topanga, baby.
SPEAKER_00 (57:20):
Well, that too.
I mean, that's what I'm saying.
SPEAKER_01 (57:23):
Get Sean Hunter on
there.
Rider Strong.
Go do Dancing with the Starsnext.
I was never a Corey gal.
I like Sean Hunter.
You know me.
It's my type.
We have Elaine Hendrickspartnered with Alan.
Elaine Hendricks is best knownfor the evil...
Cruella step monster to be fromthe Lindsay Lohan version of The
Parent Trap.
SPEAKER_00 (57:43):
Yes.
SPEAKER_01 (57:44):
And I think she's
going to be awesome.
We have Scott Hoying from theband Pentatonix paired with
Riley Arnold.
After watching their TikToks, now he's pretty tall.
Sometimes the really tall guysstruggle, but that man can move.
I would be on the lookout forthose.
And Riley already has her ownfan following.
She basically changed theDancing with the Stars game by
(58:04):
being with all her TikToks andhas made everybody else do
TikToks, I think they could geta lot of
SPEAKER_00 (58:08):
votes.
I know Pentatonix does.
I
SPEAKER_01 (58:10):
think they're going
to be a finalist.
SPEAKER_00 (58:11):
I know Pentatonix
does more than just Christmas
music, but all I ever thinkabout with them is Christmas
music and hacks.
SPEAKER_01 (58:17):
You know what I
thought about when speaking of
Christmas and going back to mybackyard brawl conversation?
Me during the game was at thatmeme that was like, how dare we
say Merry Christmas?
And me after the game was, MerryChristmas, everyone.
All right, we have Daniel'sprojected winner, who you said
last week, because I feel likehe's the only one that you
remember that was cast.
SPEAKER_00 (58:36):
It was a very
scientific pick.
I'm very confident.
SPEAKER_01 (58:38):
Robert Irwin
partnered with Whitney Carson.
Robert Irwin, hmm, hot.
Makes me feel like a cougar.
But Whitney, great pro to bepartnered with.
I think that I'm glad they didnot partner him with Riley.
I won.
I don't want.
I bet now that she has aboyfriend, we don't need to have
her shipped with somebody.
I'm tired of the shipping withRiley and her partners.
SPEAKER_00 (58:55):
It's annoying.
My pick is scientific.
Whitney's a great.
Bendy,
SPEAKER_01 (58:59):
Irwin, his sister
won.
SPEAKER_00 (59:01):
His sister won.
He's going to get the ladiesvote.
Yeah.
And the guys.
Yeah.
Now he could come out this firstepisode and just not be wearing
cement shoes.
Yeah.
I don't know.
So we'll see.
SPEAKER_01 (59:13):
We have Lauren
something.
I don't know how to say her lastname, but she is from fifth
harmony.
She has partnered with Brandon.
I'm sure she'll be able todance.
I feel like at this point, everybody, but like two people
from fifth harmony have been onthe show.
I know Camilla is nottechnically in the band fifth
harmony anymore, but she hasn'tbeen on there.
And I don't think Diana has beenon there, but all the run, they
(59:34):
usually do pretty good.
So we'll see.
Then we have my pick, who Ithink is going to win, is
Whitney Leavitt from The SecretLives of Mormon Wives, partnered
with one Mark Ballas.
So Whitney can move.
She has some dance experience, like Alex Earle.
So I think she's going to beable to pick up choreography.
It doesn't have to be ballroom, but if you know how to pick up
(59:55):
choreography, that gives you alittle bit of an edge.
SPEAKER_00 (59:57):
Having Mark just
feels like an advantage, no
matter who you are, because he'sjust so good.
It would be like if Derekstepped out and was
somebody's...
I'm
SPEAKER_01 (01:00:06):
really excited to
see Mark.
They're dancing, by the way, toGolden from K-Pop Demon Hunters.
SPEAKER_00 (01:00:12):
Oh, they're going to
get that big.
I'm
SPEAKER_01 (01:00:13):
excited.
And then we have Andy Richterand Emma Slater.
I don't know what Emma did tokeep getting the old people, but
I think that Emma must be agreat teacher.
And, you know, I think thatpeople are underestimating Andy.
He might not be able to movewell, but he's funny.
They're a tribe of asparaguschildren.
But
SPEAKER_00 (01:00:32):
they're
self-conscious about how their
pee smells.
SPEAKER_01 (01:00:34):
So that is our cast.
And I know some of you guys sayyou tune out for Dancing with
the Stars talk.
And others of you guys say thatyou like it when we talk about
it.
I'm sure we'll give ourpredictions going forward after
the premiere episode, which willprobably be a ridiculous
runtime.
But yeah, I'm sticking with myprediction from last week and
you are too.
SPEAKER_00 (01:00:54):
We're not allowed to
change.
It's locked in.
SPEAKER_01 (01:00:55):
Yeah, I'm going with
Whitney.
SPEAKER_00 (01:00:56):
Well, I might
change.
Rocky Balboa said everybody canchange.
We're locked into our picks.
It's an elimination.
We're locked into our picksuntil our pick...
is eliminated, then we can pickdifferent.
Can
SPEAKER_01 (01:01:09):
we eliminate this
podcast because I have to pee?
SPEAKER_00 (01:01:13):
Okay.
Well, I think that was too muchinformation for everybody,
including me, but thank youeverybody for tuning in and we
will see you next time.
