UNKNOWN (00:00):
you
SPEAKER_00 (00:11):
Hey everybody and
welcome to We Watch TV.
It is the podcast about the TVthat we watch.
I am Daniel.
She is Hope.
This is episode 118.
Welcome to the third episode ofour pizza arc as we've been
calling it.
You didn't
SPEAKER_02 (00:27):
introduce Marvin.
SPEAKER_00 (00:28):
Marvin is here as
well.
He likes pizza.
I had pizza today and yesterday.
SPEAKER_01 (00:34):
You
SPEAKER_02 (00:34):
had
SPEAKER_01 (00:35):
pizza today?
SPEAKER_00 (00:35):
Yeah, I ate the
leftover pizza from yesterday.
Oh, the room tip pizza?
Yeah.
So, we don't have a lot of pizzastuff for you but I will say
we're gonna talk about theMothman Festival so if you were
gonna make a Mothman pizza and Iknow and I know places do it but
if you were gonna make a Mothmanpizza what are you putting on
(00:57):
this pizza
SPEAKER_02 (00:58):
I would just do like
the cheese and then I would do
two pepperonis for like the eyes
SPEAKER_00 (01:06):
and everybody's just
just like Hunger Games over who
gets the pepperoni slices
SPEAKER_02 (01:10):
and then I would
take some green peppers chopped
up and I would kind of make thatlike the outline of the body you
asked me how I would make aMothman pizza yeah that's what I
would do
SPEAKER_00 (01:21):
so you're making the
design of the Mothman on the
pizza with the ingredients
SPEAKER_02 (01:25):
yes okay what would
you do
SPEAKER_00 (01:27):
I'm going normal
like pepperoni or normal you
know pizza base pizza regularpizza sauce regular pizza cheese
and then I'm just doing like somany black olives that it's like
The pizza is black.
SPEAKER_02 (01:43):
Yeah.
SPEAKER_00 (01:44):
With pepperoni
underneath it.
SPEAKER_02 (01:46):
You wouldn't even
eat that.
I
SPEAKER_00 (01:48):
might.
SPEAKER_02 (01:49):
I don't think so.
We'll go to like specialty pizzaplaces and he's like, I just
want pepperoni.
SPEAKER_00 (01:55):
They, listen, pizza
got perfected.
Pizza.
Nice crust.
A nice tomato based sauce.
Don't give me this barbecuecrap.
SPEAKER_02 (02:08):
I like a white
pizza.
SPEAKER_00 (02:09):
No, no.
Um, Cheese.
And yeah, I think people canget...
You can play around with thecheese.
You can play around with thecheese a little bit.
But generally, there's somemozzarella on there.
And then pepperoni.
It's unbeatable.
SPEAKER_02 (02:25):
I agree pepperoni
can be good, but I'm like Kevin.
A lovely cheese pizza just forme can hit.
We weren't supposed to talkabout pizza again.
SPEAKER_00 (02:35):
I told you this was
going to be the third episode of
the pizza arc.
The people want to talk and hearabout pizza.
Pizza.
SPEAKER_02 (02:43):
Okay.
SPEAKER_00 (02:45):
Speaking of the
Mothman Festival.
SPEAKER_02 (02:47):
We went.
SPEAKER_00 (02:48):
We went to that this
weekend.
SPEAKER_02 (02:50):
We are locals to
where the Mothman originates
from.
So most locals during thefestival, you kind of make sure.
It's like a hurricane prep.
You got to make sure you haveyour snacks, your supplies.
You don't have to go outanywhere.
You kind of barricade yourselvesin for the weekend.
It's not that.
I mean, some locals might notlike it very much because
(03:10):
they're killjoys.
But most people, I feel like weknow it's great for the town,
but when you have literally oneroad, you are a one main,
there's only one main road intown, that is it.
It makes travel rather difficultwhen the epicenter of town is
taken over by more than what thepopulation of your actual
SPEAKER_00 (03:32):
city is.
Like three times what thepopulation of your city is.
SPEAKER_02 (03:36):
So most people that
are local, and we make sure, you
make sure that you, like Friday, like even Friday, it starts to
fill up even though the festivallike officially starts Saturday
so Thursday usually you want tomake sure that you have
everything you're ready to go wehowever decided that we wanted
to check out the festival actionbut not you know have to go in
(03:59):
the craziness of town findparking so I had the brilliant
idea of incorporating thefestival into our run and making
us run longer than we have inyou know probably months And we
would have done that.
They didn't do the Mothman 5K inperson this year.
It was just virtual.
So I guess we could considerthis part of our unofficial
(04:19):
Mothman 5K plus extra miles run.
And yeah, we ran from the gym, started our normal route, and
had a little adventure, didn'twe?
SPEAKER_00 (04:32):
I think we had the
authentic Mothman Festival
experience.
We ran through Point Pleasant,West Virginia, which is the town
where the Mothman has hauntedfor many years.
We went off because our normalrunning
SPEAKER_02 (04:43):
protects the town.
Yeah.
Because he warns.
I
SPEAKER_00 (04:46):
agree.
I've got.
Yes, I agree.
We because our normal runningroute was blocked off by some
construction.
We ended up having to go down aspecial route by the train
tracks.
Saw a burnt out building that'sbeen in complete disrepair.
It's kind of cool.
The kind of place that a mothmanmay hang out occasionally.
And then we got down to thefestival.
(05:09):
Yeah.
And the festival was like sobig.
busy even we got there whatabout 10 o'clock on saturday
SPEAKER_02 (05:15):
there in the morning
we have right before we kind of
left because we we got down andwe stopped the watch for the run
because there's no way we couldhave ran i mean we could barely
walk it was just bumper tobumper we went and saw a friend
that we knew was set up thereand we just we did kind of like
we weren't really able to shophad to i had to miss out on
goose clothes
SPEAKER_00 (05:36):
darn
SPEAKER_02 (05:37):
i would have carried
those goose clothes for like
three miles for
SPEAKER_00 (05:40):
the run or you would
have just You would have carried
them for like 500 feet, and thenyou would have made me do it.
SPEAKER_02 (05:44):
We all know that.
Whatever, whatever, whatever.
So Miss Goose had to miss outsome outfits, but perhaps next
time.
But yeah, right before we leftand got back on the riverbank,
the time stamp of the photo youtook of the crowd shot was 10.20
a.m.
I feel like normally a lot ofpeople...
I think a lot of people try toget parked around 9.30-ish, but
(06:05):
10 seems to be kind of wheremost people descend upon the
festival.
It already felt like...
Like, if you had told me, like,oh, this is 2 o'clock in the
afternoon peak festival time, Iwould have believed you.
SPEAKER_00 (06:16):
Yeah, it was very
packed.
And I even feel like from themoment we got there, because we
came in on the flood wall, andyou really can't tell anything's
going on until you get right ontop of it, and then suddenly
it's like, whoa.
And
SPEAKER_02 (06:28):
you turn that
corner.
You get down to actualRiverfront Park, and you start
seeing all the tents with thevendors.
Then you see all the people.
Then when we turn out ofRiverfront Park into kind of the
main hub of the festival where alot of like especially the food
vendors are you're like wow butit was even crowded on like the
side
SPEAKER_00 (06:48):
yeah by the river i
was just saying from the moment
from the time we got there tothe time we left felt like it
just had kept getting busier aswe were standing around um
looking at stuff well they
SPEAKER_02 (06:59):
said there were
guests from the uk that showed
up a lot of people come from allover the country of course
people you know from westvirginia come but i think that
like i'd say it's more like outof town people that come to this
event they said this year wasrecord crowds I absolutely
believe it the weather was goodI think last year we actually
skipped out of the festivalentirely because the feels like
(07:21):
was in the hundreds so we likestayed we we sought shelter and
stayed in our home all last yearbut it was really fun to go back
experience the festival ifyou're into like the cryptid
creatures the Mothman festivalis one to not be missed it's not
I don't think it's the biggestfestival in West Virginia I I
think the Forest State– or theForest State– the Forest
(07:44):
Festival in Elkins is known asthe biggest festival in the
state, which I've never reallygone to that except for in high
school when we would have thestate meet at Elkins.
We would run the cross-countrymeet during the Forest Festival.
But I'm like, oh, they had morethan– I thought it was just like
a cross-country thing.
I'm like, oh, that's like aweek-long event, so maybe
someday we'll go back.
I don't know.
Have you ever been to Elkins,West Virginia?
SPEAKER_00 (08:05):
Very
SPEAKER_02 (08:05):
hilly.
Is
SPEAKER_00 (08:07):
that where Wesleyan
is?
No, that's Buchanan.
Okay.
I may not have been there then.
The
SPEAKER_02 (08:12):
Elkins cross country
course, you run through like a
creek like twice.
Like it is literal the epitomeof cross country.
But apparently that's thebiggest one.
But I know like I was trying tofind where Mothman Festival
ranked and I couldn't reallyfind a cohesive list.
But it was definitely on a lotof lists as the most like
anticipated.
One of the ones that keepsgrowing and I definitely see
why.
But yeah, I'm team Mothmanserved as a warning.
(08:37):
Yeah,
SPEAKER_00 (08:38):
Mothman was trying.
Mothman was trying to warneverybody against the tragic
events that were being petulatedby the men in black
SPEAKER_02 (08:46):
yeah
SPEAKER_00 (08:47):
who were actually
there to cause harm even though
they said they were there toinvest them off investigate the
mothman
SPEAKER_02 (08:52):
speaking of the
mothman the screenwriter um for
the mothman prophecies moviethat was not actually filmed in
point because we are like a onestreet town everyone i wish they
would have used more b-roll touse your expression for the
movie but i can see why theydidn't because like town would
have been shut down for like sixmonths or whatever but But he
was there.
This was his first timeattending the festival.
(09:14):
He said he'll definitely beback.
He's also written episodes ofSupernatural, a podcast favorite
show.
I don't think we've ever talkedabout Supernatural on the
podcast.
But that's a favorite of yourpodcasters.
We love Supernatural.
SPEAKER_01 (09:25):
Yeah.
SPEAKER_02 (09:26):
I think Grimm–
that's a show I don't think
you've ever watched.
No.
I feel like Grimm is sort oflike in the vein of Once Upon a
Time.
And I think he's written someepisodes of that.
Don't quote me on that, but Ifeel like I read that.
But even he was there.
So they had a whole group– Wehave talked about Fallout, the
show, on this podcast.
And I saw when we were walkingaround, I feel like Daniel was
(09:47):
in his like, oh my gosh, I'm sooverwhelmed by all the crowds.
You
SPEAKER_00 (09:51):
got a pretty good
picture.
You don't get out much.
You got a pretty good picture ofme.
SPEAKER_02 (09:55):
I do.
I'll post that on the Instagram, guys.
Everyone go check out ourInstagram.
Go follow.
What is it?
I should know this.
We watch TV podcasts onInstagram.
I'll put that up there.
You should know this.
I should know this.
I should be a better host.
It's a good podcast.
Go follow that.
I'll put that picture of Danielkind of like deer.
and headlights you're a basementdweller you don't get out much
but I noticed them and then youwere like oh I didn't really see
(10:17):
that and then you saw the grouppictures there's like I guess a
group of people in West Virginiathat because they're one
SPEAKER_00 (10:24):
there's some sort of
club I'm not entirely convinced
whether or not it's WestVirginia only or just nationwide
but because one of the WestFallout games took place in
Fallout 76 was based in thestate of West Virginia but Point
Pleasant is a location and thestatue is there and the museum
is there and everything so thatkind of the Mothman Festival has
kind of become a de facto likemeeting point for these groups
(10:47):
of Fallout fans now well
SPEAKER_02 (10:48):
I saw two of them
dressed up and I was like oh
people are dressed up likeFallout and then I saw the group
picture later they even had whatI call it like the armor or
something
SPEAKER_00 (10:57):
they even had that
person like the big armor that
the guy in the show wore
SPEAKER_02 (11:01):
so many costumes we
were worried we would look silly
in running clothes now weblended right in but yeah if
you're ever if you're near thearea if you're far worth a trip
just know that we don't evenhave cell service on a good day
when no one's in town so that'ssomething they actually had I
think as you said a booster
SPEAKER_00 (11:21):
to try it out AT&T
had a booster set up it wasn't
doing anything but a
SPEAKER_02 (11:25):
lot of good food
which we didn't get to eat but
we got to smell we're like theghosts in the show ghosts we got
to smell the food now we did goget food after though we went to
like everybody kind of gets inon it now like even towns that
are like an hour away I'venoticed they've been doing like
because probably because peoplego stay there for the festival
(11:45):
like Mothman specials but wehave a coffee shop kind of on
the northern end of town thatyou're you're not really in the
downtown festival action and wegot Mothman cookies after our
run and Mothman cold brews afterour run so we we were on theme
and then Sunday we did not go tothe festival we escaped we
(12:06):
stayed inside and watchedfootball and and ate pizza, I
guess.
Once town had cleared, you wentout and got the pizza.
SPEAKER_00 (12:16):
Yeah, yeah.
Once I knew it was over and safeto go through there, I went to
get pizza.
Because everything, like, foreverybody who's like, how could
you possibly be trapped in yourtown?
We're not trapped, buteverything that is like within a
20 to 30 mile radius of thingsthat we would want to go do is
that direction.
(12:37):
Either in there where youwouldn't want to be or past it
And the only way to get to thatstuff is to go through, go over
two bridges to get to it.
And it's just like the trafficis an absolute nightmare.
We can get out other ways, butit's stuff that's farther away.
We're talking, you know, 40miles, 50 miles.
And also it takes 30 minutes toget to a highway if you go the
(12:59):
other way.
SPEAKER_02 (13:00):
It's just the small
town life for you.
SPEAKER_00 (13:02):
Literally, like, no
joke, our town is a one-town
road.
And so when you get a huge eventlike this taking place, what did
I call it?
call it over the weekend theapex predator of the holiday
calendar I was like
SPEAKER_02 (13:15):
I really want to go
at least see the goose clothes
I'm like and I know we'll haveto pay to park and I know we'll
have to but I really just wantto see what they have and you're
like you want to go into theapex predator yeah right now
just for a goose outfit yes
SPEAKER_00 (13:30):
yeah because like I
saw pictures of the bridge back
up and it was like so we have toget into our town if you're
coming from Ohio you got tocross the Ohio River but then
you also have to cross the canalriver and so i saw traffic on
the bridge the silver bridgethat that's the one coming from
ohio not the second bridge itwas already like congested it
was a mess like that directionout of town you just weren't
(13:54):
moving so it was that's why wekind of barricade ourselves in
because
SPEAKER_02 (13:57):
but it is really
great for the town it's fun love
me some mothman festival i lovethat it gets bigger and bigger
every year i believe that whenit started in like i think the
early 2000 They said it wasliterally like in a room and
it's grown.
I know when I used to be a localreporter, I covered it.
There would be people that wouldcome in, but it is like compared
(14:19):
to how it even was back then, just like tremendous growth.
SPEAKER_00 (14:24):
Speaking of your
local reporter, we got a really
good picture.
We got a really good picture.
They have a mural and it's kindof hidden.
I don't see a lot of people likeposting it.
There was nobody back there whenwe went back there.
SPEAKER_02 (14:36):
Ladies that are
listening, you know how in
Nashville they have like theangel waynes that you can get
pictures with or fairy wings orsomething this is what it's like
the backdrop but it's mothmanwaynes
SPEAKER_00 (14:47):
and it has the the
newspaper the old newspaper of
town on it as well and we alwayslike to get that picture not
just because it's cool mural butalso because you actually worked
for that newspaper
SPEAKER_02 (14:58):
i did i once worked
for that um newspaper which
really brings us um and speakingof the mothman the newspaper i
could write a tell-all do youknow one time um i feel like i'm
out of I've been gone from therelong enough I could start
spilling some tea I had thisdude show up with a sketch
sketch and he's like I just wantyou to know that the Mothman is
(15:21):
a woman now and the Mothman'schanged a lot and he was serious
as a heart attack I had thathappen one time I had somebody
bring their this okay so I knowI'm West Virginia but we always
joke that I'm more like I grewup on the border which is still
where we still live but more ofa more city-ish if you will town
than Daniel so I'm not reallyinto like hunting culture and I
(15:43):
remember and you're like whatcould be worse than a mothman
sketch and someone coming nowhen someone's like hey can you
come get a picture we just gotdone hunting and we got like I
think he caught it like a 10point or something 8 point I
don't know I don't really knowwhat that means even I think
it's like something with theantlers and I was like oh okay
they like literally like had thedead deer in the back of their
(16:08):
truck holding it up And theywanted me to get a photo of it.
And I'm like, welcome to theshow.
SPEAKER_00 (16:17):
This was pretty
early in your time here.
And you weren't quite, I thinkyou were more accustomed to that
kind of shenanigans now.
SPEAKER_02 (16:27):
Well, when they took
me for my first time, I always
thought the fair was just aplace for rides.
I didn't realize how involvedthe animal side of the fair was.
And they had me cover, they callit the sale.
And I was like, what are theyselling?
I was like, what do they do withit?
Like, are they like giving themlike pets?
This one's going to this farm.
(16:47):
And then I realized like, oh,oh, yeah.
So that was all early in my, theMothman changing though.
I feel like that was one of the, that was in the later days.
So when it comes to local news,I, I understand it.
I feel it.
(17:07):
I know I've lived it.
And this is the perfect segueinto the paper which premiered
on peacock i believe september3rd they dropped all 10 episodes
and they're also i just readgoing to start putting the
episodes on nbc in november i'mguessing they'll do a weekly
release for that the paper hasalready been confirmed to get a
(17:28):
season two so for those of youthat don't know the paper is a
spin-off of sorts set in thesame universe as the office you
SPEAKER_00 (17:37):
could say well it's
the same documentary crew yes
the The
SPEAKER_02 (17:40):
same documentary
crew.
SPEAKER_00 (17:42):
Yeah.
So I think we're going to coverthe whole season here.
And for that reason, we're goingto talk right now a little bit
about some things we liked in anon-spoiler way.
And then everybody, we will kickin.
If you haven't watched the paperyet and you want to and you
don't want to be spoiled, wewill let you know when it's time
that we're going to hit somespoilers up.
But just right off the bat, Ireally enjoyed this.
SPEAKER_02 (18:04):
I loved it.
I'm not one of those people.
I did not want a carbon copy ofThe Office.
right I can watch the office andenjoy it whenever I want it is
in the same tone of the officewhich I enjoy but that's where
I've seen some complaints arelike oh we wanted it to be like
just like the office or have allthe office characters in there
(18:24):
and I don't think that'snecessary and I really enjoyed
it because like I said I'velived this life yeah I think
working for a struggling paperso it resonated with me for that
alone
SPEAKER_00 (18:36):
for both of us
because while you were the
newspaper person I was rightthere with you You lived me
coming home at
SPEAKER_02 (18:43):
midnight after
council
SPEAKER_00 (18:44):
meetings.
I think both of us, it probablyresonated a little bit more with
us than it might with otherpeople, but I know you were
like, within the first openingshots when she was talking about
how she pulled stories from theAP, you were just pointing at
the screen and almost havingflashbacks.
It was
SPEAKER_02 (19:01):
almost like PTSD in
a way, but also funny.
I think though, while we both, Ihave a personal experience to
it, I do think it's really funnyas well and I think the
characters do get more fleshedout honestly I'm like I could
have had them go more into liketalking about the paper itself
but I think I understand whythey didn't do that that would
(19:23):
be like them talking about allthe ins and outs of just a paper
company in the original office
SPEAKER_00 (19:28):
and I think too
they've got room now that we
know they have a second seasonthey've got storylines like we
both talked about there's got tobe an episode about obituaries
because that was just such aneveryday struggle that you went
through with obituaries andreading them as they come in and
proofreading them and thengetting criticized about
SPEAKER_02 (19:47):
them the criticism
was always fun because you don't
actually like write theobituaries the family does or
the funeral home people do andsometimes people would be like
you forgot some name and I'mlike I didn't forget anything so
then I would be like well youneed to call the funeral home
then if you're offended by theway this was done and they I
(20:11):
hate to be like people are dyingevery day but the obits never
like took time off so like itwould be like on a Thanksgiving
and I would have to run back toa computer like my parents house
or something and make sure thatno obits came in for the day or
check in so I really do hopethey do that because like obits
like we they have I don'tremember what we even called him
(20:33):
now the technical term but youcould do like the free version
where it was just like almostlike a news brief is something
where it's not an articlethere's a technical term that
thankfully I'm starting toremove myself from this reporter
life and I can't remember thatyou would do those or you would
they would pay to have like thebig one in
SPEAKER_01 (20:52):
the right up yeah
SPEAKER_02 (20:54):
so you would that's
just something that would that's
probably you could say they keepthe papers alive
SPEAKER_00 (21:02):
yeah I think that
and I also think just more
interaction with the public isprobably things that I'd like to
see especially like like yousaid council meetings, covering
local elections, that kind ofstuff.
SPEAKER_02 (21:13):
One of the things
that I really liked about Parks
and Rec, another show in thesame kind of vein as The Office,
the documentary style show, Iguess, was their public forums.
And I remember people beinglike, oh, these are so
unrealistic.
No, no, they are very realistic.
I've been in public forums wherepeople say the most wild,
(21:35):
unhinged things.
And yeah, it's just...
It's a small town living, whichI know that's set in Toledo,
which not necessarily isn't asmall town.
That's
SPEAKER_00 (21:46):
a small town to a
lot of people.
SPEAKER_02 (21:48):
But yeah, but to a
lot of people, it probably is.
And it's the whole vein of thestruggling newspaper.
So while I like the characters,I feel like I'll like the little
inside things.
Like that first joke, and Idon't think this is much of a
spoiler, because I don't think alot of people understand what it
means.
And that's the one that you saidI laughed at.
(22:08):
We meet Mare.
she's one of the main charactersand she's like okay right now I
need to fill some space on thispage so I'm just gonna pull
whatever fits from the versionof the wire that we pay for and
she just like randomly moves itover and I'm like yes we I did
that all the time you needed tofill the space I just pull
something from the wire and goabout my day and it's just one
(22:32):
of those things that like yepwell that's that's what you get
and then also where we meet Nedwho I just see him as the
Weasley guy and from Star Wars Idon't know what that actor's
name is
SPEAKER_00 (22:43):
I think it's Donald
Gleeson
SPEAKER_02 (22:46):
I'm just like
Weasley
SPEAKER_00 (22:47):
I want to say Donald
Gleeson but I know it's not
there's an H in his first namesomewhere that really throws me
off
SPEAKER_02 (22:53):
he has a very good
American accent he comes on as
the editor they bring him in asthe editor of the paper and
everything he starts saying thathe wants to do less wire stories
more local news I'm like yes yesyes because when I worked for
the newspaper I felt like I wasin a constant battle I'm like
the way you sell and you keeplocal look like we know that
(23:16):
print media is a dying art withonline but the way you get
people to buy newspapers is theywant to see their kids doing
something fun like their kidsthat won an award they want to
see stuff like that local newscan survive if you really put an
emphasis on it the problem iswhich we're finding on this show
is funding
SPEAKER_00 (23:34):
right
SPEAKER_02 (23:35):
so the way they
basically it's like him and like
two other people and
SPEAKER_00 (23:39):
and some volunteers.
SPEAKER_02 (23:40):
Yeah, because the
corporation of the paper, we
have like the newspaper, butthen they also sell toilet
paper.
So we have like a whole otherdivision of sales and just the
paper is one tiny part of it,which it used to be when they
kind of talk about at thebeginning a much larger part of
this company, but
SPEAKER_00 (23:56):
now it's a very
small part.
And I think the tie-in is thiscompany, Softies, bought Dunder
Mifflin.
Yes.
And so that's kind of how we gothere.
From Scranton to Toledo.
From Scranton to Toledo.
And we
SPEAKER_02 (24:07):
do have Oscar from
the office.
He chose to move to Toledo he'skind of your office connection
but I felt like one of mycriticisms before the show was
when I saw how many staffmembers they had I'm like a
struggling paper would not havethat many reporters at one point
it was like me and one otherperson and then there was a
(24:28):
period of time where I was thepaper and editorial like I'm not
kidding like we wonder why Ihave PTSD and I was like how are
they going to pull it off andthey answered it like
immediately we have the couplepeople that work for the actual
paper and then he's like well Iwant to do all these things and
kind of the softies corporatepeople are like well good luck
(24:50):
with that and he's like well whowants to volunteer and write
some stories do I thinkeventually they could maybe get
some paid positions for thesepeople yes I think realistically
they need to focus a little bitmore on the ads because we have
the one guy that does ads yesads are in the whole
relationship with the ads andeditorial was really funny too
for me I could just go on and onand on about all the technical
(25:11):
stuff, but what I think peoplewant to know is are these
characters fun?
I think these characters havepotential.
I
SPEAKER_01 (25:17):
agree.
SPEAKER_02 (25:18):
Right now, it's hard
to compare because we had, I
don't know how many seasons ofThe Office we had, but we had
multiple, at least what?
Nine.
Yeah, I was going to say atleast eight or nine seasons to
get to know the characters fromThe Office.
And if you go back and re-watchThe Office season one, you don't
know Creed as much or even Kellyas much.
It kind of focuses on the Jim,the Pam of it.
(25:39):
and Michael Scott and of courseDwight is a personality but you
don't get to know even likeStanley as much until those and
I feel like it's just so hard tocompare a show that so many
people love and I thinkeventually these characters can
be great but they're not tryinglike to duplicate like you don't
have a quote unquote Dwight youhave characters that have
(26:00):
similarities to Dwight andMichael but I think it's really
good that they didn't try tomake like this is the Jim this
is the Pam they didn't do thatand that's No, I agree.
I
SPEAKER_00 (26:12):
agree completely.
And I think before we get to thespoilers section here, because I
think we're rapidly approachinga point where we're going to
have to talk about somespoilers.
I did have one question for youregarding this show and The
Office, because I feel like thisdoes very much have that exact
same kind of styling of TheOffice where they're a
documentary crew and they're intalking to people.
(26:33):
But I do think they've updatedand tweaked a few things.
I don't remember, but only likea few things.
a small handful of times on TheOffice where they referred to
the camera crew.
I know that they always do theinterview section and they're
talking to them and that'sobvious, but when they're in the
rest of it, I feel like they'repointing out there are cameras
(26:54):
here a lot more often than theywere on The Office.
SPEAKER_02 (26:57):
They do in the later
seasons for sure as it gets more
into it.
There's a whole storyline.
You didn't watch it as much whenMichael
SPEAKER_00 (27:05):
left.
I do remember Michael when heleft taking off his mic and
handing it to them and that waskind of a real acknowledgement
of the crew there.
But like the very first thing wesee, and maybe, okay, here's
your spoiler warning, everybody.
We're going to talk spoilersnow.
I'm going to give you a fivecount.
Five.
There's your five count.
I'm not actually going to countit.
(27:25):
The very first thing that we,the real thing, the very first
thing we see from thatperspective is like, as soon as
Oscar sees those cameras walkinto the office, he like stands
up and he's like, no, I'm notdoing this again.
and walks out and is like, I amnot doing this again.
You cannot get me to sign thesecontracts.
And then they do a quick, reallyfunny thing where they put on
(27:47):
the screen, Oscar actuallysigned the contract he signed in
like 2005.
2005, yep.
SPEAKER_02 (27:51):
It
SPEAKER_00 (27:52):
has no end date on
it.
It's completely binding.
And I just thought that wasreally funny.
And
SPEAKER_02 (27:57):
you could tell that,
I feel like to reiterate your
point, yes, some of the othercharacters like Esmeralda and
Mare, I think kind of addressthe crew at times, but it's
really mostly Oscar doing that.
And I think that's because hehas that familiar air with them
and I love that bit I reallyliked how it opens so this is
your office this is yourScranton connection Bob Vance
(28:19):
Vance Refrigeration what line ofwork are you in Bob so we see
Bob Vance talking about whathappened to the company in
Scranton and he kind of explainsthat you know got sold they got
offered jobs to move to Toledowhy would Phyllis ever want to
move to Toledo and then we cansee that Oscar took that job and
of course Oscar does come aroundI
SPEAKER_00 (28:41):
think that leaves
room open for other people to
come in again I don't want thatI don't want this to be a show
where it's just every seasonwe're waiting for another office
person
SPEAKER_02 (28:50):
to
SPEAKER_00 (28:50):
pop in but
organically like we know Oscar
probably is still friends withlike
SPEAKER_02 (28:54):
well we know he's
friends with Stanley we get a
Stanley mention right awaybecause Oscar first he's like
I'm not going to participate I'mnot going to help the paper at
all and then he makes like aSudoku like puzzle and you see
you see that he's on the phonewith Stanley and then perhaps
the most meaningful referencethat we get is in the very last
episode it's the last episodecorrect
SPEAKER_01 (29:15):
yeah yeah
SPEAKER_02 (29:16):
where he does the
Michael Scott quote which is
like you could throw make ahundred shots and miss every
time Wayne Gretzky Michael Scottis that the I don't know if
SPEAKER_00 (29:25):
I know he said you
take you miss a hundred percent
of the shots you don't makethat's what he said he said was
some great person said this andalso he said and also some idiot
I knew once
SPEAKER_02 (29:36):
yeah yeah that's
kind of how he said it so
there's your little wink forMichael Scott's and I really did
and I think that's definitelysprinkled in there for the
office fans but yeah if it'sorganically done and they could
get somebody to come in I couldsee them like bringing like
Daryl in like that would
SPEAKER_00 (29:52):
make Daryl I could
see Kevin because I think Kevin
worked in accounting with Oscarso they would have more
relationship to
SPEAKER_02 (30:00):
have a chili cook
off and invite people to come
participate and Kevin needs toget redemption so that we can
actually taste his chili.
We've all seen the meme.
Even if you're not an officeperson, you've probably seen the
meme of Kevin spilling thechili.
SPEAKER_01 (30:15):
That
SPEAKER_02 (30:17):
would be funny.
A good way to work it in.
But I'm glad that it's nottrying to be the office and that
it's its own thing.
Let's talk about the credits.
The opening credits hurt mysoul.
Somebody that wrote for thepapers.
Basically it shows people doinganything with a newspaper but
reading it.
And our little co-host here,Marvin, there's a schnauzer
peeing on the newspaper.
(30:38):
newspapers in the scene andwe're like a schnauzer we
totally both did the leo
SPEAKER_00 (30:43):
yeah we did i
thought that was a really really
good way to not just have a goodopening opening credits but kind
to illuminate it really is likeilluminating what the show is
about because that's what like ithink it does two things it
shows you kind of what printmedia has become these days but
it also shows you like all ofthose are old pictures and
(31:03):
people were always doing thatstuff with newspapers newspapers
are important like what likewhat What do you do anytime your
shoes are wet and you want tohelp dry them out?
You stuff a bunch of newspapersinto them.
I go
SPEAKER_02 (31:12):
say, hey, go get
some of the issues that I don't
care to save down in thebasement.
SPEAKER_00 (31:15):
Yeah, you've got a
huge box of ripped papers down
in the basement.
And we always take out thesports section or take out some
other thing.
We try to save the articles, thefront pages that you've got your
name
SPEAKER_02 (31:26):
on.
Yes.
My byline.
Thank you.
SPEAKER_00 (31:29):
So let's talk
about...
What did I
SPEAKER_02 (31:30):
say?
They had the whole byline joke?
Yeah.
I thought that was funny.
No, a byline is, and I'm like, see, the little bits of the
paper humor really...
So
SPEAKER_00 (31:39):
let's talk about, I
think, what's probably got a lot
of people through the season andwhat's probably got a lot of
people looking forward to theseason.
Let's go ahead and just talkabout the main.
I don't even know if this is themain ship of the show or not.
SPEAKER_02 (31:52):
There's kind of two
ships.
SPEAKER_00 (31:53):
There's kind of two.
Maybe three.
Maybe three.
If
SPEAKER_02 (31:56):
you think about
Esmeralda
SPEAKER_00 (31:57):
and Ken.
No, you're right.
You're right.
We've got the main character.
What's his name?
Ned.
Ned and Mare.
SPEAKER_02 (32:04):
And Mare.
So Mare is technically hisemployee.
SPEAKER_00 (32:07):
Yeah.
And so they stretch that.
out made it really awkward allseason and then there at the
final last shot of the episodelast episode they kiss
SPEAKER_02 (32:17):
now kiss and then we
have Nicole and Dietrich I can't
say his name the guy from
SPEAKER_01 (32:24):
ads
SPEAKER_02 (32:25):
and then King
clearly likes Esmeralda who
Esmeralda just likes herself andJarson
SPEAKER_00 (32:32):
that relationship is
Esmeralda you knowing that he
likes her and using it to heradvantage
SPEAKER_02 (32:38):
yes I would say the
main ship the and I don't think
you can even say the Jim and Pambecause I don't they don't give
me Jim and Pam vibes at all youare correct it's Ned and Mare
and they meet they instantlyconnect and you could tell that
Mare was somebody that startedoff for this job probably having
an enthusiasm thinking I've beenthere thinking that she can
(33:00):
change the world with journalismand then realizes oh maybe not
and I think by him coming inwith his enthusiasm for it and
he had spent time in salesbecause his dad I think had a
connection with the company andthen his dad cheated on his mom
so now he's taking theopportunity they hire him on to
not be the sales guy to be theeditor and he gets to do
something that he's wanted to dothey actually and they are in
(33:22):
Ohio so it makes sense hegraduated from Ohio University
which is known as a journalismschool so again another little
journalism reference there and Ithink at first they connect
because he is able toreinvigorate that passion that
she has and gets her excitedabout writing again and he's
super into it and they dothere's definitely a lot of
awkward moments like you saidalong the way they almost in a
(33:45):
way I feel like with some of theawkwardness are more Andy Andy
Aaron like they're not as weirdas Andy and Aaron were but just
some of the misunderstandings Idefinitely think they are if I
would say the main ship I thinkwith a 10 episode season and
maybe when they film theyweren't sure if they were going
to get a season two I personallywould have held off on the
kissing I
SPEAKER_00 (34:06):
agree
SPEAKER_02 (34:06):
I think it was a
little rushed I don't think you
need to drag it seasons like itdoesn't need to be a mold or
scully thing where you drag itforever but I do think it was a
little bit rushed but there arepeople and I'm usually one of
them that watch the shows forships in this case that wasn't
what I was watching this showfor I do I like I do I think
they have chemistry yes whenthey sold it for me was the
episode towards the end wherethey were arguing and yelling at
(34:29):
each other I was like okay now Isee romantic chemistry between
them by getting that season twoand also you know he is
technically her boss
SPEAKER_00 (34:37):
they're gonna pump
that they're gonna need to pump
the brakes I
SPEAKER_02 (34:39):
think they're either
going to do what you were saying
they're going to pretend a fakedate or they're going to come up
with something about like youknow office romances yeah what
trope whatever they'll do Ithink they will kind of pump the
brakes on them or maybe they'llsurprise me and they'll just be
together and we'll focus onother shenanigans
SPEAKER_00 (34:54):
I don't know like
what for me it's what trope are
they going to pull out of thebasket is it going to be how can
we keep our relationship asecret or is it going to be the
boss employee relationship andhave the HR people come in and
tell them something Or is itgoing to be we're out there, we
let it be known, and everybodyelse starts accusing Mayer of
(35:14):
getting preferential
SPEAKER_02 (35:15):
treatment?
And I think Ned is an ethicalperson and really worried about
image.
And I could see him being like, okay, we hooked up.
Because they indicated that theywere going to do more than just
kiss.
I could see him just shutting itdown and then having the
awkwardness there taking place.
And then almost like a LeslieBen situation where they weren't
(35:35):
able to date for a little bitbecause of the whole camp
situation.
Right.
And then you just, you can'tfight those feelings.
They could go that way.
I'll say this with them.
One of the things that I likedabout Ned and Mare is that I
feel like in shows, it tends toalways be the guy that's doing
the chasing.
And while I think he did likeher, she was more the aggressor.
(35:56):
She was the one that was likebasically kissed me,
essentially.
She was the one that was tryingto get him to admit that he had
feelings those last coupleepisodes.
And I think that's a refreshingchange to give the woman
confidence.
kind of that power.
And it's just, it's so trite toalways watch the man be the one
that's chasing.
It's boring.
We've seen it a thousand times.
(36:17):
I liked it that they switched itup.
What do you think about that?
SPEAKER_00 (36:19):
No, I agree.
I thought it was good.
I thought, you know, from Ned'sperspective, I don't, if he, if
she hadn't have pushed, I don'tthink he was ever going to do
anything.
SPEAKER_02 (36:27):
I don't think he was
ever going to go there.
SPEAKER_00 (36:28):
And I completely
agree.
And I hope that that continuesas a storyline into season two.
Cause I think that's aninteresting dynamic that could,
could go some interesting placesbetween the two.
with getting them together soearly I really don't want to see
the situation where they just goand like do the classic end of
season two they break up andlike unless it's forever you
(36:50):
know what I mean I'm just it'sjust it's such a Trident thing
when they get them together soearly and so I don't I hope they
go an interesting direction withit
SPEAKER_02 (36:58):
and then the other
ship the Nicole situation and I
can't say his name the guy fromthe sales guy whatever I'm not
really into it I'm not not intoit She seemed to get upset at
the end because he was finallylike, I think she, she wanted,
basically she wanted to notcommit to anything.
And then she realizes that hewasn't seeing anybody else.
(37:21):
And he's like, and he, I thinkhe just got fed up with it.
Like her wishy washy attitude.
So he's like, fine, we're done.
And then suddenly it's like, youalways want what you can't have.
She's upset.
I don't, I have no feelings onit either way.
If they want to be together, fine.
If not fine,
SPEAKER_00 (37:35):
whatever.
So I, I, I agree with yougenerally.
about it not yeah theydefinitely give talks I agree
with you about it not being muchalthough I do think they now
have an opportunity with thelittle with the crash out that
she had over it we have someopportunity to inject some
personality into her yes in nextseason that wasn't I'm not
(37:55):
saying she lacked personality orwas a boring character but she
was very she kept herself kepther emotions close she kind of
SPEAKER_02 (38:03):
reminded me in a way
of April from Parks and Rec
SPEAKER_00 (38:06):
yeah like she was
very like tightened up and kept
you know a front there'ssomething back there and I think
maybe hopefully they'll be ableto explore that now that this
has happened and so we'll see alittle bit more of emotion out
of her over the course ofhopefully the rest of the new
season
SPEAKER_02 (38:22):
on Parks and Rec
with April we were just doing a
rewatch of it April was always avery emotional character that's
what made it so funny almost theway she presented herself he
started to peel those onionsback so I think that could be
good and as for Ken andEsmeralda just give me like an
Angela and Dwight type we'regonna I know we say we don't
want to compare but just give mesomething wacky I'm fine with it
(38:44):
now that she we had oh my god Idon't know what the actor's name
is but from Lost the guy why amI blanking on his Josh Holloway
that's his name right he's alsoon Yellowstone show we don't
watch but he showed up in theepisode because somebody was
they have a whole episodededicated which is very relevant
(39:06):
now to being scammed andcatfished and we realize that
she's also seen Jarson andgiving Jarson money.
And the girl that playsEsmeralda, if you will know her
from season two of The WhiteLotus, by the way, she was the
hotel manager.
She's way funnier in the show.
SPEAKER_00 (39:22):
Her character is
going to be one of those, I
think, very polarizingcharacters.
People are either going to thinkshe is hilarious or every
storyline that features her, they are going to hate it with
their depth of their soul.
I think
SPEAKER_02 (39:35):
she's hilarious.
If they had continued to makeher like villainy going after
ned
SPEAKER_01 (39:41):
yeah
SPEAKER_02 (39:41):
and they had driven
that plot home more and more and
more that would have gottentired i would have been
exhausted by that but they'vesince kind of switched gear
she's still self-servingobviously but they've kind of
pulled off of that um i i wouldbe fine with her and ken
eventually someday gettingtogether
SPEAKER_00 (40:01):
yeah so she would
she i have to admit she was
ingrating on me the first coupleepisodes but She got better.
She got better.
She did get better.
Yes.
So overall, I mean, I thinkwe're both very pleased.
I think we're both very excited.
Yeah, very excited.
Does that mean I have to watchLove Island?
SPEAKER_02 (40:21):
Probably.
You promised you would.
I said I wasn't going to just...
We have a whole month of Peacockto get our money's worth.
SPEAKER_00 (40:31):
Okay.
Go watch the paper.
It's good.
Either watch it on Peacock or ifyou don't have Peacock, it's
going to be coming on NBC.
Yeah.
On a weekly release.
Give it a watch.
I think it's worth your time.
SPEAKER_02 (40:41):
And just be open to
it.
SPEAKER_00 (40:42):
It's not The Office.
Don't expect The Office.
But it is in the same genre ofThe Office.
And I think you'll like it.
SPEAKER_02 (40:49):
They definitely
develop, like we said, the
characters a bit more and more.
That's my problem with only 10episodes.
I feel like we need more.
So hopefully it doesn't take toolong for season two.
SPEAKER_00 (41:00):
All right.
Well, that is the paper.
And next up, we've got a seasonand series finale for you.
The Summer I Turned Pretty, season three.
SPEAKER_02 (41:08):
And other breaking
news.
So The Summer I Turned Prettyofficially ends our The Summer I
Turned Vulcan series.
But maybe not.
I don't know.
And season three finale, episode11.
So good.
So good.
It opens up immediately.
(41:31):
with Conrad going to Belly'sapartment.
So finally, Bonrad reunites.
Belly got the haircut.
I will say that haircut, itlooked to me like they didn't
use a wig necessarily, that theytucked it under because Lola, I
think, had cut her hair shoulderlength, but they gave her this
bob.
But it wasn't like awfullooking, but it was distracting
(41:53):
to me.
I wish that they had either justactually had her cut it or
styled it a little different.
But regardless of that, all ofthe Bonrad scenes, No notes.
Ten of ten.
I got to see them.
First, it was kind of awkward atfirst, as it would be, because,
you know, that is the guy thatsaid he was in love with you
right before your wedding, andthen you ran off to Paris, and
(42:14):
you guys haven't seen each otherin over a year.
And I liked that it was sort ofawkward.
But then as they both loosenedup, it was so good.
And you can just tell that theyare just a Bonrac connection.
That is why it is the ship.
That is why it is their story.
And it was awesome.
I loved watching them go aroundParis together.
then they had me literally likeclutching the chair of the seat
(42:37):
that I was in during the lovescene we finally got a really
good Bond Red love scene as soonas Taylor Swift's dress started
playing I knew we were in for usa time and it was hot it was
steamy it was beautiful loved itbasically almost what I
predicted I believe on the lastepisode I said that I thought
that he was going to go see herin Paris they were going to have
(42:58):
a great time but then they mightsplit because Belly was going to
pull some and be like you know Ican't be with you right now I'm
still finding myself and then Ithought that they were going to
part ways and that she would seehim and cousins down the road so
I was wrong about the last partbut they did fake me out for a
second because I'm looking atlike the runtime of this episode
I'm like oh gosh I was like wedon't have much time left and
(43:20):
suddenly you know after theysleep together belly like has a
little bit of a freak out but ina way it was a good freak out
because they addressed somethingvery important it's always been
Susanna the boy's mother wasalways always like you and
Conrad are like destined to betogether which I always thought
was a little odd to put that onlike kids and it was always
weird to me and I didn't lovethat that was part of it and
(43:41):
belly's like do you really loveme or you just doing it because
that's what your mom wanted andI feel like it needed to be
addressed he's like you thinkthat I'm doing all of this for
my mom he's like I've changedeverything about myself but the
one thing I can't change orwhatever he said I'm
paraphrasing here is like how Ifeel about you and it was so
good it was infinity they areinfinity and It's a Bonrad
(44:03):
thing.
The people that watch this showwould know.
But they faked me out for aminute.
I was like, oh no.
I was like, this might actuallyend with her choosing herself.
I'm like, I'm going to get outmy notepad now and start
alerting the media.
Like, what is going on?
But it was a brief fake out.
Conrad leaves to go take the 5a.m.
train back to Brussels.
That's where his doctoring is.
(44:24):
That's
SPEAKER_00 (44:25):
where he does his
doctoring?
SPEAKER_02 (44:26):
Yeah, he has his
conference there.
And Belly, you see her seeJunior Mint.
That's the bear that he won forher and I really liked that by
the way and when belly thisshows again that belly has
always been an unreliablenarrator when she told the story
about Junior Mint when she gotit she said that the only reason
Conrad won it was because hefelt bad for flirting with
(44:46):
somebody but you see it from histhey did a flashback to that
scene you see it from hisperspective that he was just
trying to win it for her and wealways knew that but you see she
looks at the bear she lifts upand there's the infinity
necklace that Conrad gave herfor her birthday years ago go
that is and Conrad didn't seethe necklace because it was
under the scarf it's like JuniorMint just like reunited his
(45:07):
parents she sees it then her momtexts her a picture of her
birthday when she was youngerand she just has an epiphany and
she realizes like you know it'sokay I want him in like every
lifetime and she goes after himand at first I was like this
better not be a dream sequencebecause they start playing
(45:27):
Taylor Swift are we out of thewoods are we out of the woods
and she literally runs I don'tknow how she had time to change
into jeans and the tank top andget in the car and catch that
train, but whatever.
And you see her running throughthe train.
You all love me a good chasescene.
And she sees Conrad and she'slike, she gives him the speech
like, you know, it's you.
I want you in every lifetime.
I choose you of my own freewill.
(45:49):
I choose you.
And then they kiss and it wasawesome.
And I've seen a lot of peopleand I screenshot of this being
like, oh, I like some of thehaters are like, I just wanted
belly to choose herself or, youknow, she's like, She didn't
have her agency.
And it says the show wasliterally Belly choosing
herself.
Yes, she does realize she lovesConrad without denying it.
(46:11):
But she also realizes that sheloves herself.
When she says she loves the girlwith brown eyes and brown hair,
she chooses herself.
She chooses to love herself, which means loving Conrad and
not hating the person she grewup to be.
Because she had a self-loathing,like a lot of self-loathing.
She was like, I was the villainin this story.
And a lot of people have saidshe was the villain in the
(46:31):
story.
And when she and Conrad areactually talking about that as
they're going around Paris, he'slike, we were just kids.
And I felt that that was really,it needed to be said.
So she realizes that, you know,it says she chooses to love
herself, which means lovingConrad and not hating the person
she grew up to be.
Her self-sabotage, which was ahuge reason why she couldn't get
(46:52):
herself to be with Conrad, turned to self-love.
Her running to Conrad was notjust for Conrad, but for
herself.
And I love that.
And then there's another littlesentence in there, which I'll
get to in a minute.
But it was great.
I loved it.
I was very excited about it.
She says later in the voiceover, you know, I didn't make it back
to Cousins that summer, but thenI did eventually come back and
(47:15):
it's her and Conrad in the caron the way to the beach house
and then it shows them standingin front of the beach house and
the camera pulls away.
The other group, I basically wonwith all my ships.
Never lost.
Except for one time for aterrible show that was awful.
Staley Taylor, Stephen andTaylor.
(48:01):
She's like, I know this is yourdream.
She's like, I'd be moving for usbecause I finally believe in us
now.
And now I'm obsessed with thissong.
God, what is it called?
I've been making you listen toit like nonstop.
SPEAKER_00 (48:13):
Well, it's a good
question.
I, you know, I'm, I'm, I havesong blindness, but you
SPEAKER_02 (48:18):
know, you know,
movies.
SPEAKER_00 (48:19):
Sure.
SPEAKER_02 (48:20):
The song is called
everywhere.
Everything.
It's by Noah Cahan.
I don't know his name, butGracie Abrams, who I love is on
there and they play that.
We have our beautiful sailorscene.
And guess what?
And guess what, guys?
I figured out I don't hateJeremiah when he's not being
annoying and ruining Bond Redand being a baby and a man-child
around Belly because of the timeand distance.
(48:42):
Jeremiah in the last episode, Iliked him better.
He's been able to grow andreally become his own person
finally at last.
And now we know why he was soobsessed with the wedding cake
and the chocolate thing becausehe has aspirations to be a chef.
So he has this whole chef dinnerthing that they have at the
Cousins Beach House.
this is like a whole otherseparate story where Belly and
(49:04):
Conrad are in Paris and Iactually love Jeremiah now I
don't love him but I like himand I'm rooting for him and I
really Jeremiah and Denise babylast week they had or the last
episode before the finale theyhad some scenes and I'm like you
know I could see it I didn'tknow if I had read some leaks
that they were going to be ingame and I'm like how is this
(49:24):
going to work the chemistry offthe charts they've had more
chemistry in their few scenesthan he had in three seasons
with Belly so they finally kissbut you know I don't think it's
I don't know if it's going to beanything serious but because
he's like you know I'm reallyglad that we met and he's like
now suddenly I'm regrettingmyself for not doing this and
she's like doing what and hekisses her and he's like oh
(49:44):
should I have not done that andthen she kisses him and he they
start laughing he's like whatare you laughing because you're
kissing nepo baby that's whatshe called him when they were
both working at his dad's officeand he's she's like no I'm
laughing because nepo baby'skissing me and also Denise calls
him out on his crap which isgreat she he was talking kind of
about Conrad and he's like ohwhatever you were impressed with
(50:05):
Conrad and everything and she'slike dude you're the one that
seems obsessed with Conrad cutit out so it seemed like we have
somebody that's going to chooseJeremiah first which if you're a
Jeremiah fan you should be happywith Jeremiah's arc whether it's
with Denise or him growing upthis is something that's always
gotten my nerves with shows andI'm going to call out the
(50:25):
Vampire Diaries fandom anotherfamous brother love triangle
everybody that claims thatthey're a Stefan fan fan but
then is so angry about Stellanayou don't like Stefan I said
what I said Elena was alwayspretty much constantly at least
by the end of season one goingforward you know I looking at
Damon she was always had thatconnection with Damon you just
(50:48):
couldn't deny it if you're sucha Stefan fan why would you want
Elena with Stefan when sheclearly had feelings for Damon
why would you want that so thisis the same situation so the
weirdos that ship jellyfish Whywould you want Jeremiah with
somebody that stunts his growthand that doesn't love him the
way he deserves to be loved?
So for my shipping, I totallywon all the ships.
(51:12):
So that made me very happy.
I would consider that a prettygood finale.
The only thing that I wantedmore of, I would have liked to
have seen another jump forwardin the future with everybody
together because Belly andConrad basically had their own
entire storyline going on and wedidn't get to see the whole
group back.
I would have liked to have endedit with a flash forward of the
(51:34):
Jeremiah Conrad Stephen throwingBelly in the pool for the belly
flop which they did in seasonone and two but I was like you
know what they didn't do thatwhatever so the credits roll we
have this letter from Jenny Hanof the thanking fans but then
saying maybe we'll meet inCousins again I'm like hmm and
then we have this montage of allthese pictures of Bonrad at
(51:55):
Christmas time because you knowBelly Conrad their thing was
always Christmas and we're likehmm so So I finished this
episode, and I'm like, could weget more?
Because there's been theoriesabout basically what we do with
the Taylor Swift stuff, with theEaster eggs.
Like, will we get some extraepisodes?
Well, I think I was done for theepisode, and later that day, the
(52:17):
announcement's made, and we'relike, it's happening! So here's
some breaking news! Y'allthought I was done with this
show?
No, we're getting The Summer ITurn Pretty, the movie! Woo!
UNKNOWN (52:31):
Woo!
SPEAKER_00 (52:31):
have they announced
who's going to be playing the
different cast members yet
SPEAKER_02 (52:37):
no it's going to be
the same Lola and Chris are
already signed on
SPEAKER_00 (52:41):
I know that I
understand I know
SPEAKER_02 (52:44):
Daniel this is why
you're not allowed to talk when
I watch this show it's veryimportant to me so we're getting
the movie now a lot of us aretrying to theorize when that's
coming out we're like have theyalready filmed scenes because
Jenny Han specifically said thatit's not coming next year so
we're like well what if it'sthis year well December 14 I
think that we're probably it'sprobably wishful thinking and
(53:05):
she was like oh well it's notmade yet I was like well made
means it might not be edited yetmaybe we'll get it but she has
since doubled down and says thatshe wants to wait a couple years
to let the you know the actorseven age a little bit because
we're going to be showing adifferent it's going to be a
belly and Conrad the nextchapter of their lives so we're
hoping it's like the weddingwhich they have in the book um
(53:28):
yeah so we could be 2027
SPEAKER_00 (53:30):
what did I say when
you uh me all this I think I was
I think I said well they'regonna mess with your ships a
little bit no she
SPEAKER_02 (53:37):
says she's not going
to
SPEAKER_00 (53:38):
well they're gonna
have some drama involved
SPEAKER_02 (53:40):
I'm sure but it's
not gonna but Bonrad will be
together they're not gonna likeBelly's not gonna go date
Jeremiah again I think theymight address how that even
though Belly Conrad Jeremiah areall in a better place I think
that they will address theawkwardness because she said
Jenny Han said that in aninterview like you know what's
it like when you you know aremarrying or dating your
(54:03):
brother's ex.
Like, how do you navigate familydynamics?
Which, I mean, I guess wetechnically already did.
SPEAKER_00 (54:08):
So they're just
making the family stone.
UNKNOWN (54:11):
Yeah.
SPEAKER_02 (54:12):
No, but that's a
great movie.
That's a great movie.
I do love The Family Stone.
But I'm really excited for themovie.
I was hoping that we'd get someextra episodes tacked onto this
season.
But I think that's going to,like, for those of us that,
there were some people that werekind of upset about the finale
because they'd feel rushed.
And now, like I said, I couldhave been satisfied with that
finale and been like, all right, all my ships worked out.
(54:36):
There's hope for the future.
But now I'm really excited.
So I'm not going to stop talkingabout this movie.
It's just going to continue.
to
SPEAKER_00 (54:43):
be my personality.
Well, you are going to stoptalking about it right now.
I guess.
Now, loyal listeners, as you areaware, we've been watching Only
Murders in the Building andPeacemaker.
We're going to...
We don't have a ton about eitherof those to talk about tonight,
so we're going to kind of skipover that and hold until our
next episode.
But what we are going to getinto...
Wait a minute.
(55:03):
I just have to
SPEAKER_02 (55:04):
say one thing about
the Peacemaker.
SPEAKER_00 (55:05):
Okay.
SPEAKER_02 (55:07):
If Chris, a.k.a.
Peacemaker, played by John Cena, makes my precious Adrienne
vigilante cry one more timewe're gonna have words
SPEAKER_00 (55:17):
okay that's a threat
to John from you to John Cena
SPEAKER_02 (55:20):
I guess okay bird or
James Gunn bird blindness that's
us
SPEAKER_00 (55:25):
um but we did watch
Dancing with the Stars premiere
and I have to just go ahead andgive myself an applause
SPEAKER_02 (55:33):
oh you had like you
didn't take that's like the
easiest route to assume thatRobert Irwin was gonna be number
one come on why not even a hottake a hot take would have been
like I I think, you know, whatever his name is, Dancing
with Emma Slater, the guy thatwas on Conan, Andy Richter.
SPEAKER_00 (55:49):
You know, I seem to
remember last episode when we
gave our predictions and youtold me that you weren't so sure
that was a good pick.
So now you're turning around andtelling me.
You're acting
SPEAKER_02 (56:01):
like it's some
phenomenal pick.
I just said, can he dance?
Yes.
The answer to that question isyes.
Apparently he can.
I think we were both like, Ifeel like.
my prediction, Whitney, wasright up there with yours.
I think she and Robert, I think, had the highest scores of the
night than Whitney.
(56:22):
So I think those are definitelygoing to be finalists.
If Robert can continue to dancewell, this show historically,
the women love to vote for themen on this show.
And if he can continue to dancewell, I think he can beat
Whitney.
I think it's going to come downto the technicality, the dances,
the scoring.
Can she bring in the votes?
I'm not sure.
But yeah, I still think, I trieddid not give the obvious answer
(56:44):
but yes
SPEAKER_00 (56:45):
I'm trying to win
apparently I'm trying to win the
competition by picking theperson that I think is going to
win dancing with the stars you
SPEAKER_02 (56:52):
just assumed that he
was going to be a great dancer
yeah
SPEAKER_00 (56:55):
I wasn't
SPEAKER_02 (56:55):
sure just because
his sister danced I didn't know
SPEAKER_00 (56:58):
well I mean it could
have been a gamble yes that's
what I mean that's why I'msaying I'm a genius because it
could have been a gamble and hecame out and immediately
cemented himself as a contender
SPEAKER_02 (57:07):
I feel like there's
room for growth certain people
that I thought could have beenbetter than they were Scott and
Riley I thought could have donebetter but I think there's
potential but he did look kindof awkward gin and I'm sorry I'm
turning my Swifty car for asecond I caught him Jan on the
podcast it's yawn it's his firstseason he's known for he was on
Taylor Swift's heiress tour Iactually liked their content
(57:28):
when they were dancing they hadtoo many tricks too many lifts I
agree with the judges can wejust say as a weird that Carrie
Ann was out and there was onlytwo judges they should have had
somebody fill in last minutethat was awkward
SPEAKER_00 (57:38):
yeah and I don't
know if I don't know if Derek
and Bruno were like playing itup or or they were really having
a bunch of trouble.
But if they weren't doingsomething on purpose, then maybe
Carrie Ann is over thereactually keeping people in line.
I have no idea.
It was a weird judgingsituation.
SPEAKER_02 (57:53):
Also, Ezra and
Jordan I thought could have been
better than they were.
And I think he, again, leanedinto too much of that.
I think he's probably excitedbecause he's got somebody that
can do a lot.
There was too many gymnasticsflips and tricks, less dancing,
and I think she can dance.
So I think those are things thatneed work.
I'm just too much of an empathto watch the dance.
like andy and even cory becausei just i feel so bad for them
(58:16):
when they get like bad scoresbecause they're out there trying
and it's hard so that's alwaysreally hard for me to see like
last year with reginald carlwinslow like it was even though
he would took like two steps
SPEAKER_00 (58:28):
he was just on a
brief a brisk walk most of the
time most of the dance routines
SPEAKER_02 (58:32):
uh the girl from
fifth harmony i knew she would
be good but i feel like she'slauren i think everybody's like
acting surprised with her i'mlike all the fifth harmony
ladies have done well so that'snot a major hot take i'm trying
to think of anybody oh oh ElaineHendricks that was probably my
favorite dance of the night andshe does have dance background
as well Elaine and Alan theywell fed for the Parent Trap
(58:53):
fans
SPEAKER_00 (58:53):
okay that's apparent
okay they did
SPEAKER_02 (58:54):
the opening with
Meredith and a hat they did the
little handshake but I thoughtshe did really great too like
that was a good that was a funentertaining dance it might have
been not the best technicaldance but I think it was my
favorite of the
SPEAKER_00 (59:06):
night I think she'll
be around for a while
SPEAKER_02 (59:07):
I hope so I think
her thing will be just you know
when you are older the injuriesseem to happen more.
But I like the cast.
I think it's really good.
We have a lot of good themenights.
We're getting Disney night back.
We're getting the Halloweennight, but we're getting Wicked
Night.
If they don't have Robert Irwindo Dancing Through Life, what
(59:28):
are we really doing here?
Come on.
SPEAKER_00 (59:31):
I can't opine on
that.
I have no opinion on it, butI'll take your word for it.
So yeah, that's Dancing with theStars.
A little brief update.
They didn't do an eliminationfor Night one, which I am on
board with.
I think that's always terriblewhen you bring these people in
and put them through all thisand then they have to go out and
do this thing and then somebodygets eliminated the first time.
(59:51):
We
SPEAKER_02 (59:52):
are getting a double
elimination tonight.
Who do you think it's going tobe?
SPEAKER_00 (59:59):
I think Corey
Feldman is gone.
I just don't think he's got thevotes.
Unless there's a bunch of secretCorey Feldman fans out there
that I'm not aware of.
I just don't see see it
SPEAKER_02 (01:00:12):
I think Andy's gonna
get enough fans
SPEAKER_00 (01:00:14):
I think Andy's gonna
stick around just because I okay
he he was technically just asbad as Corey but his his ability
to to do the acting part yeah ofthe dance put him up a leg and I
think people will keep himaround because haha funny old
guy yeah so I don't know I youknow with the one person we
(01:00:36):
didn't bring up in thisconversation is Hilaria Hilaria
Hilaria Baldwin who is anexcellent dancer She
SPEAKER_02 (01:00:43):
could literally be a
pro.
Everybody that always has danceexperience, I think she's the
first one with ballroomexperience.
She apparently beat Emma.
SPEAKER_00 (01:00:51):
But nobody knows who
she is.
I don't think she'll go outtonight.
But I do think she's going to beone of those.
I don't think she's going to bea finalist.
She's going to be one of thepeople who goes out way earlier
than her dancing abilitydictates because I just don't
think she's got any juice in herfan base.
I think her scores
SPEAKER_02 (01:01:11):
will save her from
being one of the first ones out.
But also, it's probably like, Ifelt like Alec Baldwin looked
miserable.
SPEAKER_01 (01:01:17):
Yeah, he did.
He
SPEAKER_02 (01:01:18):
just had a blank
stare the whole time.
Maybe he was happy on theinside.
I don't know.
Maybe he was that outback.
I want to go to there from 30Rock.
I don't think it's going to bethe two lowest scorers, though.
I kind of agree with you.
I think it'll probably be Corey.
And then I feel like no one'stalking about the basketball
player guy.
I do a lot of NBA people
SPEAKER_00 (01:01:37):
though.
Yeah, I could see him going too.
He didn't dance that bad, but Ijust, again, I don't think he's
got anybody.
He's just kind of like a midget.
SPEAKER_02 (01:01:42):
here.
I don't know.
SPEAKER_00 (01:01:45):
NBA's not playing
right now, so I don't know if
they're paying attention or not.
I really can't tell.
SPEAKER_02 (01:01:50):
We shall see.
But in other reality TV shownews, Special Forces comes back
this week.
SPEAKER_00 (01:01:58):
I'm excited.
Johnny Manziel, baby.
I'm excited to see what happens.
I love that show.
If you're not watching SpecialForces, you are missing the best
reality television show on TV bya mile.
So you need to get out there anEmmy.
I don't care.
Don't give me this Traders crap.
I don't care about Traders.
It's a garbage show for garbagepeople.
(01:02:19):
I'll see you all.
You know that like
SPEAKER_02 (01:02:20):
half of our
listeners tell us to watch
Traders and you just apologizefor saying garbage people.
You just offended half ourlisteners.
SPEAKER_00 (01:02:28):
Are you all really
offended?
Or do you know that you like thegarbage?
SPEAKER_02 (01:02:34):
I mean, I love trash
TV, so.
SPEAKER_00 (01:02:37):
Anyway.
Traders are terrible.
See y'all.
UNKNOWN (01:02:42):
Bye.
