In this episode, we explore the profound question of why we attempt to navigate life's challenges alone when God's divine guidance is constantly available to us and the benefit, necessity, of surrendering to the Divine.

We'll explore how our resistance to surrendering to a higher power often stems from protective psychological patterns that may no longer serve us. It's in compassionately inquiring within ourselves that can help create real change in our lives and in our relationship with God.

In this episode, we'll look at:

• The concept of "effortless effort" emerges when we allow guidance to flow through us from a greater source
• Internal parts that try to protect us often operate from outdated perspectives formed years ago
• Every internal part has a benevolent intention even when its actions may be dysfunctional
• Surrendering to divine guidance doesn't mean life becomes easy, but it can become more aligned
• Compassionate self-inquiry allows us to understand our resistance without shame or judgment
• Understanding why we resist our connection to Source gives us greater agency to make consciously connect with Source

Sarah Haykel (00:05):
Hi and thanks for joining me on Welcoming God.
The big question for today whywould I ever want to do this
life on my own, without the helpof the one true source?

(00:28):
A one true source?
Why would I try to do this onmy own?
What is that even all about?
I remember last year I was goingthrough something, a big
revelation and healingpersonally about some things

(00:49):
that had to do with the long agopast and finding forgiveness in
myself, towards myself for whathappened, what I did, what I
chose.
And it was a hard moment toreckon with and something that
I've been dealing with for years, trying to heal and learn from,

(01:11):
understand, clear out of mysystem, etc.
And I remember talking to mycousin and I said you know, god
is just desperately trying tohelp me and I know I mentioned
this on another episode Godwants my best, god wants to make

(01:35):
this as effortless and easy aspossible.
Does that mean it's alwaysgoing to be easy?
No, does that mean it's alwaysgoing to be easy?
No, does that mean it's alwaysgoing to be effortless?
No, but a dear, friendlyneighbor of mine in buffalo once

(01:56):
said to me effortless effort.
And that has stayed with methat yes, we are efforting and
the efforting is effortlessbecause it's coming through us
from a source greater thanourselves.
So I want to start theconversation off with that

(02:18):
inquiry what would make me everwant to do this life on my own
and feel like I had to do it onmy own?
I have to be on my own bymyself, doing this alone.
Big question mark there.
So if you'd like to take amoment to pause the podcast and

(02:43):
just sit with this question orthese questions for a few
minutes, maybe even journalabout them, or you could take
some time after listening toinquire within, where do I see
that I am trying to do this onmy own and I am ignoring or

(03:04):
avoiding or betraying orrebelling against the guidance,
that true guidance that I'mreceiving from the inside that's
telling me nope, don't go there.
Yes, do this.
How am I ignoring that and why?

(03:25):
What's the big why for that?

Thanks so much and let's getright back into it.
You know I find, especially asa life coach and years on a

(03:50):
personal growth journey, thatthe more I can inquire within
and understand why parts of meshow up in the ways that they do
.
They all have a benevolentreason for showing up in the
ways that they show up.
I remember Dr Richard Schwartzfrom Internal Family Systems

(04:13):
talking about how every partreally has a good intention.
It's trying to help us in someway and it's usually trying to
protect us.
But these ways that these partscan act can be dysfunctional,
outdated, harmful, dangerous.

(04:36):
They're acting from oldperspectives, old ways of being.
They're acting from years andyears ago, not from the present
day reality.
They may not even know that theadult me exists.
So it's a process of goinginward and getting in touch with

(04:58):
these parts, with help from atherapist that knows what
they're doing, and then we canlearn how to do this work with
our parts on our own as well, which is very empowering and
fulfilling and rewarding.
But you know, just inquiringwithin, yeah, what makes me want
to do this on my own?

(05:19):
I think about what would I needto do to partner with God, and
surrender that is the word thatcomes up for me.
I will need to surrender to asource greater than myself, and

(05:43):
this may mean that things arehappening that I don't want to
happen or I'm not crazy about,or things that I want to happen
aren't happening, and I'mfeeling upset, I feel mad, I'm
trying to take control because Iwant that thing, I want this, I
don't want this.
But when I am surrendering to apower greater than myself, to

(06:11):
the one true source that truly,I know has my best interest at
heart, because I've seen it andI see it time and time again in
my own experience the source isdesperately trying to help me
and it's just up to me tosurrender enough to it and say,

(06:36):
okay, okay, I will go along withyou, because I know you have my
best, greatest interest atheart and that of the whole, you
know it's notonder about this.
What is it that makes me notwant to follow that inner

(07:20):
guidance that I know I'mreceiving from a benevolent
source, something that isactually trying to help me, but
I'm ignoring it or rebellingagainst it, or not pausing long
enough to listen, or moving toofast, being impatient, whatever

(07:42):
it is that's causing you not tolisten to this one true source,
and why and this is just aloving, compassionate
exploration.
It's not an opportunity to beatyourself up or shame yourself,
blame yourself, because I knowthat stuff can suck.

(08:05):
It's not productive to be inthat space of beating ourselves
up it's.
Can we look at this from acompassionate place just
inquiring to get information, just inquiring to get
information.
That's what we're doing here,because the more I know I can
understand myself and why I showup in certain ways, the more

(08:29):
agency I have to make change.
So if I'm not willing to lookat anything, how much change is
actually going to happen in mylife and how much closer am I
going to get to the one truesource if I'm not willing to see
the places and the ways that Iam showing up that are going

(08:49):
against this benevolent guidancesource?
So I invite you to set areminder, set an alarm for when
you're gonna sit down with this,do it right after you finish
listening to this podcastepisode.
Hold yourself accountable in agood, loving way, a

(09:12):
compassionate and adult way, andthen I'll see you on the next
episode, because there's anotherside to this inquiry that is
super important.
So I will see you next week onthe next episode.
Have a wonderful week and thankyou so much for joining me
