Thanks so much for listeningand let's get right into it.
Hi, and thanks for joining meon Welcoming God.
(00:28):
Hey everyone, sarah Haeckelhere.
I have a special story to sharewith you today.
(00:48):
Something really unique andspecial happened to me this past
weekend and I'm wondering, evenusing the word unique was it
unique?
I don't know, I think thesethings happen all the time, but
it felt special to me and I wantto share it with you because I
think there's a lot of goodnessto reap from this experience
(01:11):
that I had.
So on Saturday I went to anevent with my aunt and when I
pulled up my check, tire lightwent on.
One of the tires pressure wasoff, tire light went on.
One of the tires pressure wasoff and I turned the car off and
then I turned it back on againto see if the light that warning
came up again, and it did.
(01:31):
But then it went offimmediately.
So I thought, oh okay, noproblem, there's nothing wrong.
But an hour and a half laterwhen I got, or two and a half
hours later when I got back tothe car, the tire light came on
again and I thought, ok, Ibetter check, because there's no
reason why the tire pressureshould be off.
And sure enough, one of thetires was flat and I just was
(01:56):
like, oh, what a bummer.
I really just want to go homeright now.
And now I've got to call AAAand see when somebody can come
out and fix this thing.
So I called AAA and they said itwas going to be like an hour
and a half for someone to getthere.
And I'm thinking, oh my God, Ido not want to be hanging out
here in this place.
(02:16):
Like I was kind of in anindustrial part of town and
there was an event still goingon until 10.
But I was like I do not want tobe hanging out here until 10,
15 pm.
So I started walking around.
I'm like maybe there's someonewho can help me fix the tire,
and I didn't see anyone that Ifelt comfortable asking.
So I went back to the car and Icalled my brother and he said
(02:40):
he just wasn't feeling great sohe wasn't up for coming out to
help me.
But he said I'll talk youthrough it.
So I got the spare out of thetrunk with the tools that come
with the spare tire and put itnext to the tire that needed to
be changed.
And I'm looking at these toolsand I'm thinking I don't know if
I have everything here to fixthis tire.
(03:04):
I don't know if I haveeverything here to fix this tire
.
So I hung up with my brotherand I went over to the store
that I had been at just before Igot into the car to leave and
there was a man in there thatlooked like he might know how to
fix a tire, but the storelooked closed when I went back
over there.
So I was walking back to thecar and I noticed this group of
(03:25):
people kind of close to thefront end of the car, which is
where the tire needed to bechanged, and I was looking at
them and they were looking at meas I was approaching and said,
hey, is this your car?
Do you need your tire changed?
And I was like yes, and they'relike all right, we're on it.
And they just totally jumped inand changed the tire so
(03:49):
enthusiastically.
It was a few young men, likeprobably in their 20s, maybe
early 30s, and they were soenthusiastic about it and they
said we almost just startedchanging it because I had left
the spare there with the toolsbecause I didn't think I had all
the tools.
And they said we almost juststarted changing it because I
had left the spare there withthe tools because I didn't think
I had all the tools.
So they were just sitting thereright next to the tire that
(04:11):
needs to be changed and they'relike, we saw the tire and we
almost just started fixing it.
You know anyway, but we thoughtmaybe we shouldn't touch
someone, someone else's car, without asking them first.
So it was such a beautiful, heartfelt moment of just human
generosity and I felt so filled,so full of love from their
(04:39):
givingness to me and just theirsincere desire to be of help, to
be of assistance.
It floored me and it filled mewith so much joy.
I was really overcome.
Like, oh my God, I cannotbelieve this.
You guys are my angels.
(05:01):
Like I literally said that tothem.
You guys are my angels, I can'tbelieve this.
Oh my God, this is amazing.
And they fixed the tire.
They had, like several otherpeople in their group, just
hanging out right in front ofthe car and they were just the
sweetest things in the world andI felt so grateful and I said I
(05:23):
am going to bake you guys acake or something sweet to eat.
I can't remember exactly what Isaid, so they gave me the
address of this woman that isconnected to their group, who
was with them, and she wasreally fun as well, just like
talking with us and hangingaround.
So the next morning I woke upand I was like so the next
(05:44):
morning I woke up and I was likeam I really going to bake these
guys a cake and bring it tothis address?
Like I don't know these people.
I, you know, is this safe?
Is this crazy?
Like, and I just reallylistened to the guidance from
God, just tuned in inside, andby like 8.30 am I was like it's
(06:09):
time to bake a cake.
I just felt it and I baked thecake and I went to church and
came back and put the icing on,and then I just felt like around
3 pm was the right time toleave, to head over there, with
this donut still on my car, bythe way and so I went over there
(06:30):
.
No one was home, so I droppedthe cake off at the side door
and left a note and I didn'tleave my phone number.
I left my email address but Iwrote out my full name as well,
and so I was like I don't knowif they're going to be able to
find me or reach me, like I hopethey get the cake, what if an
animal gets to it, whatever.
And the next day I got aFacebook message on Messenger
(06:56):
from the woman whose home it wasand she said they could not
believe that I had taken thetime to make them a cake and
bring it over.
They were just floored by myact and I was floored by their
acts and it was just such aheartfelt, beautiful moment.
(07:18):
And then I did end up going topick up the plate that the cake
had been on and I met, formallymet one of the guys that helped
fix my tire.
And you know, I tell you thisstory because this, to me, is
God's love in action.
This is the Holy Spirit, thisis the greater goodness of God's
(07:42):
love, guidance, energy, spiritmoving through us.
When we feel that authenticurge to do something, we don't
do it because we think we should, we don't do it because we feel
that we have to, etc.
That, to me, is God's flowcoming through us and when we
(08:06):
just respond to thatenthusiastically especially, it
is such a gift.
It's such a gift to ourselves,to others, to life itself.
And I think sometimes I know Ican get confused, like, oh,
should I help every person thatI see that needs help?
(08:26):
Should I donate to everyhomeless person?
Or give something to everyperson that's asking for money
or food on the street?
I mean, sometimes it can feeloverwhelming, like how can I
help everyone?
And at least in my experience,I know that God is guiding me
specifically and I can listen tothat.
(08:48):
And I've been experimentingwith this over the past several
years.
Like God, do you want me todonate to this person or not?
So I just listen and I donatewhen it feels right, and if it
doesn't, I trust that it's justnot for me to do that.
(09:08):
So you know, I know, sometimes Ithink we can get caught up in,
like quote unquote, being niceor being kind or doing the right
thing.
And, of course, yes, I believethat being a nice person, being
kind, doing the right thing, isabsolutely important and
(09:29):
necessary.
However, it does requirediscernment, because there are
times where I'm not going tosound so nice, but it is.
What is truth coming through me?
Or someone might not perceiveme acting nice because I'm not
giving them what they want, butthat doesn't necessarily mean
(09:51):
that I'm not being nice or kind.
Also, there are times to helpand there are times that it's
not correct, at least in myunderstanding so far in life.
You know God is speakingthrough me, I believe,
specifically, guiding mespecifically in what to do, when
(10:12):
to do it, what not to do, whonot to connect with, etc.
That is how I understand thisso far right now, and that could
change.
But I know for myself in my ownjourney of listening to discern
the will of God, the trueguidance of God in my life.
(10:33):
It does require me to reallyget nuanced about it, like I was
just on a call with ThomasHubel yesterday in his Mystic
Cafe and he talked about slowingdown.
Slowing down our meditation, slowing down our noticing,
(10:57):
starting to notice the nuances, the other things that are
present in what we're feeling, maybe in our body sensations or
in our emotions or in ourthoughts, even like what's
behind that, what's underneaththat, what else is here, instead
of just the presenting thingthat's so loud, you know the
(11:18):
presenting emotion or thought orbody sensation.
Well, what else is here andthat really helps me more fully
discern.
What does God want me to do?
Where does God want me to goand how can I truly be of
service here, be the greatergoodness of God's perfect will
(11:38):
in life, in action, right now.
And I just experienced whathappened with these young men
and this family and I the othernight as being a part of God's
perfect will, a part of God'ssynchronicity, a part of God's
greater goodness manifest righthere, right now.
I'm not like you know, makingit up or waiting for something
(12:04):
to happen, it's just happening,it is, it is.
And I was on a call last weekand someone said something like
you know, the grace of God is inus.
And I was like, oh my God, yes,it's just like feminine power
where they'd say we are life'sgreater goodness manifest.
(12:25):
We, us human beings, we're it.
We are life's greater goodnessmanifest.
If we're waiting for it to comefrom somewhere else, we're just
going to keep waiting.
It's actually up to us to belife's greater goodness, to
actually act that, to be that inlife, and that's how it
(12:45):
manifests through us respondingto God's.
They didn't say this inFeminine Power I'm adding this
part.
But we become God's greatergoodness in life by listening
and discerning what God isasking us to do and responding
(13:05):
to it to the best of ourabilities.
And you might be asking how do Ido that?
How do I discern God's greatergoodness?
How do I discern God's will?
It's not always clear.
I'm going to tell you what.
And just like the parables ofJesus, sometimes the guidance it
(13:26):
is not exactly what I think itis and I love that.
From the book Michael Thomasand the Seven Angels, the
Journey Home, the Creon Parablefrom Joe Carroll, I think his
name is, this theme throughoutthe whole book is not everything
is as it seems.
And that's God, that's life.
(13:52):
Sometimes I think God is sayingone thing, but actually, if I
really unpack that guidance orthat thought or that belief or
that feeling, it's like, oh wait, actually it could mean this
and I never thought about thatbefore.
That's when I know, okay, Ithink I'm onto something.
(14:15):
It's almost like a veil liftingmoment where a new
understanding of a commonguidance or a common phrase or
something that seems so obvious, like don't do this or this is
for you, but it's like, well, wait, what does that actually
mean, and I'll have some newinsight about that.
(14:36):
So I feel like I'm getting offa little bit on a tangent here,
but I'm going to bring it allback just by saying you know,
god is moving through all of us.
I mean, we are God's greatergoodness, manifest in life.
(15:00):
We should, or we have to, but totruly create, cultivate this
every moment connection with theone true source that is
literally feeding us what weneed in each and every moment,
and that may not be always superclear.
It may mean that we need towait because we're not sure
(15:23):
exactly what to do next, or wedon't know how to totally
discern and understand thisparticular guidance or impulse
or message, and then we prayabout it.
God, are you asking me to wait?
God, I don't know exactly whatyou're asking me to do here, and
then we just can use our tools, get quiet, use some centering
(15:45):
prayer or meditation, use someLectio Divina or Audio Divina
Visio, divina, nature Divina, tocenter ourselves and create
more space inside of us to fullyhear, listen, discern what God
is guiding us to do with anyparticular situation or in the
(16:07):
moment in our lives.
