Patrick Brochu (00:03):
My nose has been
broken so many times I can just
pop it.
Staceyann Van Horne-Dori (00:06):
You're
lying. No, no. What are you
moving your teeth? Stop it.
Patrick Brochu (00:12):
What are you
talking about?
Staceyann Van Horne-Doria (00:15):
What
are you shifting? It's not your
nose. Stop playing with mePatrick Brochu.
Patrick Brochu (00:22):
All right. Let's
get to this.
Staceyann Van Horne-Dor (00:31):
Welcome
back everybody. It's another
episode of-
Patrick Brochu (00:35):
Well Seasoned
the Podcast featuring Staceyann
Marie Van Horne Doria, CMP adnyour main man Patrick Brochu.
Staceyann Van Horne-Doria (00:53):
Every
time I'm with you it proves I
need to start drinking earlierthan I should. Well, we're back.
It's episode number six? Seven?
Patrick Brochu (01:02):
No, we're at
episode 8.
Staceyann Van Horne-Doria (01:05):
Are
we?
Patrick Brochu (01:06):
Yeah.
Staceyann Van Horne-Doria (01:07):
Oh my
gosh, you guys are creeping into
that double digits. Oh my gosh,we're about to run out of
fingers. Have to use toes next.
Patrick Brochu (01:15):
And this week's
episode is a spook tacular! HA
ha ha ha.
Staceyann Van Horne-Doria (01:20):
Oh my
god. Wow. I'm actually
questioning what you weredrinking this morning.
Patrick Brochu (01:25):
Too much
caffeine. That's all. That's
all.
Staceyann Van Horne-Doria (01:27):
Oh,
my goodness. So yes, today we
have a Halloween themed episode, even though I hate Halloween,
and I turn off my porch lightsand I don't give out candy and I
sit in the back of the house.
Patrick Brochu (01:40):
That's evil.
Staceyann Van Horne-Doria (01:41):
I
know. And?
Patrick Brochu (01:42):
That's evil.
Staceyann Van Horne-Doria (01:43):
I
don't care. But I do go out the
day after Thanksgiving. OrChristmas. What is the holiday?
Patrick Brochu (01:48):
For those of you
that are listening not in real
time, this episode is the COVIDHalloween. Have any of our
listeners out there seen any ofthose creative ways that people
are looking to give candy thisyear? I've seen somewhere
they've taken Nerf guns and kindof transformed them to where
they shoot candy.
Staceyann Van Horne-Doria (02:04):
No
man, people are doing the most.
Just turn off your lights. It'sokay.
Patrick Brochu (02:08):
Listen.
Staceyann Van Horne-Doria (02:09):
No!
Patrick Brochu (02:09):
Listen. With
myself having kids, so I have my
five year olds, my wife and Iwere just trying to figure out
because they really want totrick or treat. I mean, you
know, they're five years old.
They look forward to this.
Staceyann Van Horne-Doria (02:20):
I say
you just lie to them and tell
them Halloween's the day after, get the Halloween candy on sale,
and then do like a Easter egghunt in your backyard with the
Halloween candy.
Patrick Brochu (02:30):
That might be an
option. I mean, we're not going
around doing the full thing thisyear. And that's just us. We're
just trying to figure it out.
Staceyann Van Horne-Dor (02:36):
There's
a fish on the wall. I never
noticed there's a fish on thiswall. There's a huge marlin on
the wall. Did you know that?
Patrick Brochu (02:44):
So also
Staceyann is here at my office
recording today's episode in aconference room that apparently
she just noticed there's amassive billfish on the wall. If
you could see the look on herface -- hang on I'll screenshot
it right now -- but you can seethe look on her face right now.
Staceyann Van Horne-Doria (03:02):
I
just looked over and I was like,
What is this huge thing takingover my- okay, we need to start
the episode because this is somefoolishness. If I keep looking
at things in here, I'm gonnahave things to analyze for days.
So, we decided that we are goingto do the episode of all the
crazy things that happen atevents.
Horror stories if you will.
You think, This could onlyhappen to me, but we know it
(03:24):
happens to everyone. So Patrick, would you like to start the fire
and go first? Would you like meto go first so that you can ruin
me as you always do whenever youlet me go first or...?
Patrick Brochu (03:34):
Well I don't
have any Stacey because I have
flawless events.
Staceyann Van Horne-Doria (03:37):
I
can't stand you.
Patrick Brochu (03:41):
I thought I was
gonna get hit. I have one. Okay.
My first story has to do with aload-in. So we were going to do
a show in Ponte Vedra, Florida, which is Jacksonville area.
Shout out to all of ourlisteners from MPI, North
Florida. We were heading up tothe sawgrass Marriott, a
(04:03):
beautiful property, not yet asponsor, but we were heading up
to that particular property andwe built out an entire custom
set. We had it built in ourscenic shop. We had several
phone calls leading up to thiswith our in house contacts with
different folks from the hotel, etc. In this show, we had custom
(04:24):
risers that were being built, but we were using them in
conjunction with the risers fromthe hotel. On this one we did
not do a site visit which israre for us but with this
client. We didn't have a budgetfor a site visit, so the hotel
tells us what is the exactheights that we can get to on
the risers? They're telling usokay, 36 inches, but can we
verify 36 inches? Okay, this was36 inches. We want to have
(04:45):
another area that's lower. Canyou get to 24 inches? Yes, we
can get to 24 inches. So we showup for the load in the 24 inch
risers match with our 24 inchhigh risers. We're good to go
there when we get to the 36 inchrisers, Oh our risers don't get
to 36 inches. What do you mean, they don't get to 36 inches? And
we have built all this customscenic staging that goes to 36
(05:08):
to match their 36 inch risers, the max height of their riser
was 32 inches, that's four inchdifference. So we had pieces
that were supposed to be onesmooth, consistent stage that
we're supposed to connect totheir exact risers, and we were
four inches different. One ofthe great things is just being
prepared for the unknowns. Sowe're there, freaking out, like,
Hey, we have to build this set,we have to get this up. And what
(05:30):
we ended up doing is we took ourscenic elements out back, and we
had made custom metal feet orlegs for the bottom of our
stage. So luckily, in our truck,we have a show kit that goes
with us. And we had the propersaws to be able to cut the legs
of all of ours to match thehotels. So we're out in the
parking lot, literally cuttingthese things down.
Staceyann Van Horne-Doria (05:53):
So
you had to make basically a tool
shop in a parking lot.
Patrick Brochu (05:56):
Exactly, you
know, and we had to get
permission from the hotel, because you know, we're
obviously in the back of thehotel, so not in front of
clients or guests. They're like, well, we don't normally let
people machine fabricate in ourparking lot. We were like, We
were told it's 36, we built itto 36, you're at 32 this is a
problem. And so we cametogether, we built a little area
(06:16):
out back behind, and we put itup black drape around it so
nobody could see even though itwas not a client-facing area,
and we literally cut these legsdown.
Staceyann Van Horne-Doria (06:24):
But
all they heard was
zzzzzzzzzzzzzz the whole time
Patrick Brochu (06:27):
Very loud. Very
loud. But we were able to make
it happen. And the show fromthat point on went pretty
flawless. But that was one ofthose things. It's like the one
thing that could have mitigatedthis whole thing would have been
that site visit, right?
Staceyann Van Horne-Dori (06:40):
Right.
Patrick Brochu (06:40):
Our in house
contact, unfortunately we were
trusting them to be able to gomake that determining factor
that didn't translate. And wewere given what we were given.
But...
Staceyann Van Horne-Dori (06:49):
You're
telling that story, and it
literally feels like my mouthfeels like I just like the nine
volt battery. Because I'm like-
Patrick Brochu (06:56):
Yeah.
Staceyann Van Horne-Doria (06:57):
-in
my head. I'm thinking, Oh snap,
like you guys had to take thetime to load in to recreate the
stage to get it back in time. Orthe seating you know what I
mean?
Patrick Brochu (07:06):
And don't get me
wrong. I'm putting a positive
spin on it here. But it was likea holy crap moment.
Staceyann Van Horne-Doria (07:11):
Did
you poop your pants?
Patrick Brochu (07:12):
Because at the-
Staceyann Van Horne-Doria (07:12):
A
little bit?
Patrick Brochu (07:13):
it was it was
towards the beginning of the
load-in that we had to have itdone.
Staceyann Van Horne-Doria (07:17):
Don't
ignore my question.
Patrick Brochu (07:20):
Yeah, I mean, it
was a holy crap moment for sure.
We were trying our best to comeup with solutions. And you're in
the thick of the moment, sometimes even in virtual events
if something's going awry, Ifind myself going, Okay, well,
how did we get here? And I keepon having to turn that part of
my brain off.
Staceyann Van Horne-Doria (07:35):
Yeah.
Patrick Brochu (07:36):
It doesn't
matter how you got there.
Staceyann Van Horne-Doria (07:37):
It
doesn't matter.
Patrick Brochu (07:38):
It matters that
you're fixing it. And then we
can always do a recap orwhatever to go back to that.
Staceyann Van Horne-Doria (07:43):
Yeah,
debrief.
Patrick Brochu (07:44):
There are so
many planners and suppliers
that, in the moment, when that'sgoing on, that are like, Oh,
well, how did we get- how do weget here?
Staceyann Van Horne-Doria (07:52):
It's
not the time.
Patrick Brochu (07:53):
That's not the
time. The time right now is just
to talk about what are all thepossible solutions, what's the
best solution and moving towardsthat solution. And later, we can
come back to how did we getthere? That's my first one.
Staging.
Staceyann Van Horne-Doria (08:06):
Yeah,
I'm definitely with you on that.
Like, I can't talk aboutmultiple things at one time. I
need to stay focused on this.
And we can, you know... Roccidon't bleep me out, please. We
can [censored] and moan lateron.
Patrick Brochu (08:20):
Rocci, this is a
[censored] show.
Staceyann Van Horne-Doria (08:22):
Oh my
God. Oh, my God. So my story is
not that. My story is actuallykind of funny. We'll call this
story I Found a Home. This storytakes place circa 2015? 16? It's
in San Diego. I will not mentionthe property.
Patrick Brochu (08:42):
Mention it.
Mentioned it! No I was just -you did that to me in an earlier
episode.
Staceyann Van Horne-Doria (08:46):
I did
it to you the other day too. I'm
like Say their name. So I was atthis hotel. And at the time I
worked with medical simulationmannequins. So we were in one of
the ballrooms, and the nightbefore we set up all the
mannequins, tested everythingeverything's good to go becaus
you know how it is you set iup, because next day, you jus
got to plug and play, right? Sthe next day, I have my team u
(09:09):
there, the sales marketingeveryone's up there, and they'r
making sure that everything'set, tested and working. And t
en, because we're doing mdical simulation mannequins, w
're used to body parts flying aound and laying around and b
inking and talking to you. And none thinks anything of it. W
ll, this hand falls from uderneath the table, and we k
Patrick Brochu (09:27):
This is like a
total Tales from the Crypt,
nd of just look at it. And somene goes to kick, the hand back u
derneath the table, and the fngers started moving in a way t
at our mannequins do not move. Severyone starts screaming, a
d a guy rolls out from uderneath the table, stands up
(09:52):
nd stretches and he's like, Oh,t was nice to have somewhere to
leep tonight. And we're like, hat? And he's like, he's like,
I'm sorry if I interrupted you gys. And he just like stretc
es, literally like a cartoonike scratches his belly, and
hen just continues to walk away.
(10:17):
Living Dead-
Staceyann Van Horne-Do (10:18):
everyone
was like did that mannequin just
get up and walk? And I'm like, wait, like you guys, what is
happening? And so we go to thehotel and the hotel is simply
like, Oh, yeah, you know, wehave a high homeless population.
So, you know, we try to get themout the property, but they come
in and they sleep wherever theywant. And that was it. And that
that was that was my story.
Patrick Brochu (10:41):
And you said
this was San Diego, not San
Francisco. Right?
Staceyann Van Horne-Do (10:44):
Correct.
Patrick Brochu (10:45):
Because I feel
like all of my homeless stories
involve San Francisco, not SanDiego.
Staceyann Van Horne-Dor (10:50):
Really?
Patrick Brochu (10:50):
Yeah.
Staceyann Van Horne-Doria (10:51):
So
part two to this story is the
next day. Also, the AV companyat that hotel did my meeting,
because it was a really smallmeeting. And we had a stage and
had pipe and drape. And so mypresident's on stage, and he's
talking. I'm sitting you know, back of house, kind of making
(11:11):
sure everything's going well.
The AC kicks on, and Patrick, the entire pipe and drape,
for... it wasn't a big stage itis right at 10 foot stage with a
pipe and drape the entire wall.
So we're talking about probablylike a 20 foot wall comes
falling down on my president inthe middle of the presentation.
(11:34):
So like we see it falling. I hadto go catch it-
Patrick Brochu (11:37):
That happened
during one of like the
Republican-
Staceyann Van Horne-Doria (11:40):
Yeah.
Patrick Brochu (11:40):
-debates or
something in 2016.
Staceyann Van Horne-Doria (11:43):
Yeah.
Patrick Brochu (11:43):
I remember that
was a big thing.
Staceyann Van Horne-Doria (11:44):
And
so that happens. And then I go
to that same hotel, and they'relike, Oh, well, you know, the AC
came on. And when it's on high, sometimes that happens.
Patrick Brochu (11:54):
Um, I'm sorry.
No. It just means that somebodyforgot to do sandbags. And...
Staceyann Van Horne-Dori (11:59):
That's
exactly what I said. I was like,
are you serious right now? Areyou kidding me? The entire pipe
and drape just came falling downon my president's head and your
thought his meh, the AC was onhigh?
Patrick Brochu (12:12):
Yeah, if you had
proper safety, that would have
never happened. You know?
Staceyann Van Horne-Doria (12:16):
It
was a smaller meeting. Thank
little baby Jesus that I had adecent leadership team that
didn't try to fire me right onthe spot. They knew where the
blame lied. And I spent aboutthree, four months fighting with
this hotel over this. They justliterally were like, Oh, this
happens. I'm like so a homelessperson came rolling out from
under my tradeshow table, stretched and just said hope I
(12:38):
didn't disturbed you walkedaway. And then the next thing
that happened was pipe and drapefell on my president and you're
all Yeah, yeah. AC was on high.
Patrick Brochu (12:46):
Yeah, no, that's
not okay.
Staceyann Van Horne-Doria (12:48):
Yeah,
I can't.
Patrick Brochu (12:49):
That's not okay.
Staceyann Van Horne-Dori (12:49):
What's
your next story?
Patrick Brochu (12:51):
Okay. From my
lifetime prior to working in the
production side, I worked for afurniture rental company for a
little while with few officesaround the country. But based in
Miami. We used to do a high, high dollar rentals. So I always
called it chic and unique eventrentals was what my slogan was
for them. Chic and unique. Butwe would always end up doing
(13:14):
like star celebrity star events.
If you know Miami, the StarIsland area, we were there
almost every weekend doingparties. So there was a New
Year's Eve event. I don't evenknow the year probably 2009,
2008 something like that. But wegot a call three days before New
Year's Eve. And this was for ahigh class event promo celebrity
(13:34):
who I won't name. SomethingDiddy.
Staceyann Van Horne-Doria (13:38):
Name
him. His whole name. Name him.
Patrick Brochu (13:41):
I don't know his
whole name.
Staceyann Van Horne-Doria (13:42):
I'm
gonna tell Puffy.
Patrick Brochu (13:43):
Is it R Diddy?
Staceyann Van Horne-D (13:44):
Brotherly
love.
Patrick Brochu (13:45):
So we're doing
this event and he's renting out
two mansions next to each otherat Star Island. The amount of
furniture that they rented wasprobably like a semi and a half
of furniture. And so we had togo out and start doing the
install a day and a half beforehis New Year's event. Anyway,
we're out there, the clientthemselves showed up. And this
one is all aboutmicromanagement, which is all
(14:07):
too often even in the corporateside. But this one's kind of
crazy because he shows up maybefive, six hours before the
event. Again, it is a semi loadand a half of furniture. And he
starts going through, Oh, Idon't like this here. I wanted
this moved. I don't like thishere. I want this moved. We had
our entire crew out there justconstantly moving furniture even
though we were dealing with hisplanner prior to that and had
(14:28):
everything positioned accordingto the plan where it was
supposed to be. But this personcame in it was like No, no, no,
the event was supposed to kickoff I think at like 10pm. We
stopped moving the last piece offurniture about 11:30.
Staceyann Van Horne-Doria (14:41):
Wait!
Patrick Brochu (14:42):
On New Year's
Eve.
Staceyann Van Horne-Doria (14:43):
Wait!
Patrick Brochu (14:44):
Yeah. But then
his event really kicked off
after the clubs ended andwhatever and people came over.
So most of the attendees gotthere, probably about 1am. But
anyway, so we're done with that.
The next day we go to go pick upthe furniture. And again, this
is on Star Island. I can't tellyou the amount of furniture that
we found that was either in thebottom of the swimming pool like
(15:04):
whole couches in the bottom ofthe swimming pool. We had people
that were still asleep onfurniture when we showed up the
next day at like 9, 10am.
Staceyann Van Horne-Doria (15:16):
It's
like an episode of Entourage.
Patrick Brochu (15:17):
There were some,
some pieces that we could see
off of the dock in the water andBiscayne Bay. Some pieces that
were never recovered. So theirbill for damaged or lost
equipment was almost as high asthe original rental itself. It
looked like a warzone. Andspeaking of micromanagement, we
also did another event for abirthday party for a prominent
(15:40):
celebrity at that same companyat a golf course. And this
particular celebrity owned thatgolf course... in Doral,
Florida. He walked in prior tohis event micromanaging the
layout of the furniture as well.
And now I was thinking to myselfis-
Staceyann Van Horne-Doria (15:57):
NO.
Patrick Brochu (15:58):
Yeah. And all I
say to myself is Don't you have
bigger fish to fry? Like you'reworried about the layout of
furniture and this is yourbirthday party? At a new-
Staceyann Van Horne-Doria (16:08):
I
can't.
Patrick Brochu (16:09):
At a new
property that you just
purchased? And that you'rerenovating? And making
everything all gold?
Staceyann Van Horne-Doria (16:14):
Well,
I could say that, um, from
experience of dealing with saidcelebrities son's birthday
parties, yes. Yes, that isexactly the thing that is done.
Patrick Brochu (16:28):
Oh, I think
Stacey gets to that celebrity
was. You guys will have to dosome guesses on that one. I'm
not saying it on the podcast.
You can comment on our Facebookor in an email but...
Staceyann Van Horne-Doria (16:40):
Find
us at Well Seasoned! Yeah, no,
that's a hot mess.
Patrick Brochu (16:45):
But we also find
that in the corporate world as
well, like where CEOs, some ofthem, end up getting into the
most minute of details.
Staceyann Van Horne-Doria (16:53):
Oh,
all the time.
Patrick Brochu (16:54):
And you're like,
okay, don't you have like a
bigger fish to fry than wheremaybe this... Like maybe there's
like gobo that you'd want to....
Are you serious? Like-
Staceyann Van Horne-Doria (17:04):
Oh,
no, all the time.
Patrick Brochu (17:05):
You're launching
like a massive product or
whatever.
Staceyann Van Horne-Doria (17:08):
And
you're concerned that the pen is
next to the notebook on thetables and not on top of the
notebook? Yeah, no, been there, done that.
Patrick Brochu (17:15):
Ayayay.
Staceyann Van Horne-Doria (17:15):
So
talking about CEOs. It was like
the top 25 companies in theFortune 500 list. And it was
just all their CEOs that came tothe event. And this is during my
days of the Intrepid -- the nextfew stories are intrepid related
-- and it was just like acocktail party. That's really
it. So they're on the flightdeck, and of course, the top 25,
(17:37):
so you know they have top shelfof everything. They're drinking,
and I kind of see, you know, they start getting a little
tipsy. And then they getsmashed. Like, whoo, they are
done. And all of a sudden, Ihear on a radio and frantic
calls for security. And then Ilook out the back of the ship.
(17:58):
And I notice there's like one ortwo like coast guard ships. One
of the CEOs thought that he wascool, and was going to run
towards the back of the ship, goover the railing because he
thought he could catch himself?
But then the back of the shipslopes downward so he caught
himself on a railing and wasjust hanging on. He was
(18:18):
absolutely fine. Nothinghappened. We did however, end
the event. But this is like aFortune Top 25 group that were
there. And they got so bleepfaced that that happened.
Shitake faced. The word I wantto say is shitake faced.
Patrick Brochu (18:37):
Don't you just
love it when people come up with
these... ideas... at the lastsecond? We had one for a virtual
program -- and this person'sprobably listening (the planner,
not the person that did this) --she and I were both like what in
the heck just happened? We gothrough all these rehearsals
with people and she had twoexecutives that were on standby
(19:00):
ready to go. We rehearsed withthem multiple multiple times. We
sent them gear, camera equipmentand microphones, etc. And we
rehearse maybe three times. Dayof the show, their segment was
completely live. We go to kickto them and the director in our
command center, I hear him sayThey're not in front of their
computer. We can't see them.
We're looking at a warehouse.
And we're like, What do youmean, you're looking at a
(19:21):
warehouse? They're supposed tobe in their office, like we
rehearsed. Time's ticking downand a person in my studio, the
MC, kicks to them and says,Okay, now we're going to x, y,
z, and the director's like,Screw it. Just take the image.
Let's see what happens. So theyjust took the image that we were
being fed, we're in thewarehouse, and these people will
come down -- which ended upbeing a very cool effect.
They're in like cherry pickers,if you've ever been in a
(19:42):
warehouse like a lift that goesup.
Staceyann Van Horne-Doria (19:44):
Yeah.
Patrick Brochu (19:44):
And they just
start like lowering down. So you
just see, like laying down onthe screen. Super cool effect
but they didn't use any of thecamera equipment that we sent
any of the microphones, theyliterally had a laptop, maybe 40
feet away from them that theywere just filming off of and we
couldn't hear a single word thatthey were saying,
Staceyann Van Horne-Doria (20:01):
As if
they couldn't figure that out on
their own? In a warehouse, yourlaptop computer ain't gonna work
the same -- I can't.
Patrick Brochu (20:07):
Exact- well,
they just pulled an audible, you
know, at the last moment. Andagain, had they spoken with the
production team or conveyed thatto the meeting planner...
Staceyann Van Horne-Doria (20:14):
It's
like we could have planned
appropriately for that.
Patrick Brochu (20:16):
That would have
been an awesome effect. And we
all would have loved it. Becausein post, it looked really cool
when we were doing post editingof a recap of the show, but we
couldn't hear them. So then wehad to have the MC bust back in
on their presentation and say,Ladies, we can't hear you. And
we went back to the studio andsomebody else had to do their
entire presentation.
Staceyann Van Horne-Doria (20:33):
Oh,
my God.
Patrick Brochu (20:34):
Again, that
company spent thousands of
dollars sending out the properequipment to them, making sure
that they had cameras makingsure that they had audio
equipment, and they didn't useany of it.
Staceyann Van Horne-Doria (20:44):
Did
they run over the equipment, and
their cherry picker?
Patrick Brochu (20:46):
No, but then at
the end, there was some fiasco
and getting the equipment backfrom them, because it all came
in one package. And then at theplace, it started showing up one
piece at a time. And we're like, all that you're supposed to do
is put it all back in the box,and there was a shipping label,
just put it back in the box, putthe shipping label on it, and
you're done. But that's likeyou're saying, sometimes the
(21:07):
executives that we deal with, they come up with these ideas.
And for whatever reason, theydon't convey it. I'm always
frustrated on my side, becauseI'm like, Oh, well, the meeting
planner didn't convey it to me.
But in most cases, in a lot ofcases, the meeting planner
doesn't even get-
Staceyann Van Horne-Doria (21:20):
They
didn't conveyed it to us either.
Patrick Brochu (21:22):
Yeah, those are
all great ideas. We can make
anything happen. But we justneed to know what's going on.
Staceyann Van Horne-Doria (21:28):
Yeah,
yeah. I might have a baby out
there named after me.
Patrick Brochu (21:33):
Oh.
Staceyann Van Horne-Doria (21:34):
And
in a mine.
Patrick Brochu (21:35):
Oh okay.
Staceyann Van Horne-Doria (21:38):
At
one of my events I had, it was I
think maybe a college group thatcame in. And depending on the
event, or the level of talentthere, I usually have security
with me. And so I had someonewith me, and I kind of like
looked over to the side and mydrapes kept moving back and
forth. And I was like, uh, wehave expensive pieces of
(22:01):
equipment over there. Whatpossibly is going on back there?
I go to move the drapes, becauseI'm like, no one should be back
there and... I interrupted ababy making process with
security. All I could say was, Ineed you to put on your pants,
and pull up YOUR pants, and justleave. And you're like --
(22:22):
literally, literally said --Give us five minutes.
Patrick Brochu (22:30):
...did they
comply? Or did you comply?
Like...
Staceyann Van Horne-Do (22:33):
Security
said we're not doing anything.
We're not giving you fiveminute. Then the person turned
around and was like, Oh, you'rethe event planner, Stacey right?
And I'm like, Oh, no. I reallywish you didn't know me.
Patrick Brochu (22:48):
With their pants
off.
Staceyann Van Horne-Doria (22:50):
I saw
way too much that day. One time
we did a site visit for a veryfamous hockey player. I-I don't
know. Can I say his name? Iguess I can. Can I say his name?
It's not really involving him.
It's, uh, I don't know how tosay his name.
Patrick Brochu (23:06):
Well then,
there's the answer. Can I say
his name? No.
Staceyann Van Horne-Doria (23:11):
No-
Patrick Brochu (23:12):
Did it end in a
-ski? Did it end in-
Staceyann Van Horne-Doria (23:14):
Is it
Messi-er? Messi-ay? Messier.
Patrick Brochu (23:17):
Yeah, I don't
know. Hockey is not my sport.
Staceyann Van Horne-Doria (23:21):
It's
clearly not mine either. Yeah I
was doing a site visit for himand I had to go to the doctor's
office first, so like I had, attime, was my Blackberry on the
doctors table. And he texted meto say, Hey, I'm going to be
there in about 30 minutes. Andso the doctor kind of like saw
the phone go off. And you know, obviously you hear something
you're gonna turn and look atit. So he looked and he saw that
it said Mark Messier on it. Andhe's all Is, is Mark Messier
(23:46):
texting you? And I was like, Oh,snap. I'm happy you said that. I
was calling him Messi-er for thelongest. Okay, good to know. And
he's like, you got to leave. I'mlike, Nah, bro. Like, I'm here
at the doctor. I just paid mycopay. Don't be rushing me out
the office for this man. So Iwent to the ship because I had
to do the site visit for him andwalking along the ship with him.
And people were like, so superexcited to see him that this one
(24:08):
man lost control of himself, couldn't breathe,
hyperventilated and passed outon the ship, and cracked his
head open. So we had to get EMTson the scene because he
literally gave himself aconcussion passing out on the
ship because he saw Mark Messierwalking past him. It was bad.
But yeah, those are some of ourstories from our memoirs that
(24:28):
we're gonna publish later on inour life. I guess you all got a
sneak peek.
Patrick Brochu (24:34):
We want to hear
some of your stories. If you
have an interesting horror storyor event learning story to
share, please write us atwellseasonededucation@gmail.com.
Send us a note in messenger onFacebook or on our Instagram
page. We'd love to hear from youguys. This is your podcast too,
(24:54):
so we want this to be asinteractive for you guys as
possible and here from wellseasoned community out there and
what you guys have to share.
Staceyann Van Horne-Doria (25:07):
So
want to give them a little
paprika?
Patrick Brochu (25:09):
Yeah oh yeah, we
could, we could totally do some
paprika on today's episode. So,again, in keeping in tune with
the spooky times of Halloween.
My paprika is Dunkin Donuts, nota sponsor... yet. I'm just going
to continue to say that until weend up with sponsors. Not a
sponsor yet. My kids obviouslylove donuts. But Halloween is
(25:29):
one of their absolute favoritetimes because of the
Halloween-themed doughnuts. Theylike the spider one. It's the
donut but with a doughnut holeon the top and they make the
little spider web and spiderlegs.
Staceyann Van Horne-Doria (25:45):
Yeah.
Patrick Brochu (25:45):
That is their
absolute favorite. I don't know
it just popped in my head. TheDunkin Donuts, the
Halloween-themed doughnuts, Ithink are so cool. I want to be
a doughnut decorator for Dunkinfor Halloween. Like I want to
come up with something.
Staceyann Van Horne-Dor (25:58):
Rocci's
father used to make the best
donuts in Northern Californiaapparently. I don't know I've
never tasted them but everyonewho talks about him talks about
these donuts.
Patrick Brochu (26:10):
I want to make a
doughnut for Dunkin Donuts
that's like, maybe that's thedonut with the donut hole on the
top and then maybe make it looklike a vampire and the donut
hole is kind of his nose. Butthen use candy corn as like the
teeth coming down and someeyeballs.
Staceyann Van Horne-Doria (26:22):
That
should be your like kids
Halloween project instead ofcarving pumpkins make donuts.
Patrick Brochu (26:25):
That's true.
That's true. And then I couldsubmit it to Dunkin Donuts and
say, Hey, Dunkin, you're not asponsor yet, but... that's my
paprika.
Staceyann Van Horne-Doria (26:34):
My
favorite Halloween candy that I
look forward to, my paprika, isthe caramel apple pops. You know
the apple flavor pops covered incaramel?
Patrick Brochu (26:44):
I don't know
those.
Staceyann Van Horne-Doria (26:45):
You
don't know them?
Patrick Brochu (26:46):
No.
Staceyann Van Horne-Doria (26:47):
I'm
about to go get some. They are
my favorite things. And that'swhat I look forward for
Halloween. And my soup and wine.
Patrick Brochu (26:55):
But Carmel is
not really my favorite thing.
Like unless it's unless it's inlike a candy bar. I'm all about
it. But like Carmel on theoutside like an apple or
something like that's that'snever been my thing.
Staceyann Van Horne-Doria (27:08):
Oh, I
haven't had a caramel apple in a
long time.
Patrick Brochu (27:14):
We're just like
staring at each other off into
the distance like, like hmmm, candy candy.
Staceyann Van Horne-Doria (27:19):
But
yeah, that's it. And also today
for lunch I'm going to go to theJamaican restaurant and have
Jamaican food for lunch. Andthat's my paprika that makes me
extremely happy.
Patrick Brochu (27:30):
Enjoy the rest
of your car ride. I know many of
you guys have told us that youlisten on the way to work. So
enjoy the rest of your peacefulcar ride on the way. Hopefully
there's not any traffic becauseof the COVIDs.
Staceyann Van Horne-Doria (27:40):
And
also a reminder that we have
transcripts for each episodethat will be hosted on
wellseasonededucation.com. We'llhave it there. And some podcast
apps actually have transcriptsavailable too. So you'll be able
to get it there as well but justwant to let you know we are
catering to the people. That'sit. That's our episode for
(28:02):
today.
Patrick Brochu (28:02):
Being inclusive.
Staceyann Van Horne-Doria (28:03):
Merry
Christmas.
Patrick Brochu (28:04):
Oh wait no,
we're not we're not on the
Christmas episode yet.
Staceyann Van Horne-Doria (28:06):
Happy
Halloween!
Patrick Brochu (28:08):
Yay. Oh, and for
all of you that celebrate Dia De
Los Muertos.
Staceyann Van Horne-Doria (28:15):
Yes.
Patrick Brochu (28:15):
Happy Day of the
Dead.
Staceyann Van Horne-Doria (28:16):
Yeah.
Patrick Brochu (28:17):
One of my
favorites too. I mean we
decorate most of my house isHalloween but then we have a
section in the bookshelf that'sall Day of the Dead skulls and
stuff.
Staceyann Van Horne-Doria (28:24):
Let
me tell you the Brochus don't
play around when it comes todecorating. Y'all love you a
good decoration whoo child.
Patrick Brochu (28:28):
No we don't, we
love some decorations so. All
right.
Staceyann Van Horne-Doria (28:30):
All
right.
Patrick Brochu (28:31):
Peace out-
Staceyann Van Horne-Doria (28:32):
Peace
out.
Patrick Brochu (28:32):
-Cub Scouts.
Staceyann Van Horne-Doria (28:33):
Ha!
That's my line. Bye.
Patrick Brochu (28:37):
Bye.
Staceyann Van Horne-Dor (28:45):
Episode
produced by Patrick Brochu and
Staceyann Van Horne-Doria. Soundediting by Rocci Doria and song
by Dr. Delight.
Yeah, my Halloween tradition isto make soup and have it with
(29:06):
Hawaiian rolls and have a goodbottle of wine. And that's it.
Patrick Brochu (29:10):
Soup, Hawaiian
rolls and a wine. Hm. It's a
little different.
Staceyann Van Horne-Doria (29:18):
And I
stand by it too.
Patrick Brochu (29:19):
Rocci let's make
sure that we're giving out candy
out there this year.
Staceyann Van Horne- (29:22):
Absolutely
not.
