(00:08):
Hi, I'm Elizabeth Pearson Garr, and this is the What It's Like
To podcast.
This week, we're doing things alittle bit differently because
it's the middle of the holidays.
So I don't have a regularepisode coming out.
Instead, what I've done is I'veasked my daughters to join me to
just talk a little bit about theholidays and kind of what we
(00:32):
like to do and maybe what we'reup to during this winter break.
So first up, I have my olderdaughter, Katherine.
Katherine.
Hi mom.
Thanks for being on my podcast.
You're welcome.
All right.
Let's talk a little bit aboutChristmas.
What kind of Christmastraditions do you like that we
(00:53):
do?
What we do on Christmas is, sowe have an ornament tradition
where every year we get anornament on December 24th
Describe a little bit more.
It's basically like somethingthat like you accomplished
throughout the year or somethingthat you like doing over the
year, so my past four have beenbasketball related, but when I
was five, it was like my firsttooth came out.
And then some of them are likefirst time riding a bike and
(01:15):
stuff like that.
So it's like an image ofpersonalized.
Yeah.
Personalized.
Yeah, I came up with that ideawhen you were a baby.
I think because when dad and Igot married, I didn't have any
ornaments and I thought, well,it's kind of sad that I don't
have like heirloom ornamentsfrom when I was growing up.
And so I thought maybe it wouldbe nice for you to have your own
set of ornaments, when you leavethe house.
(01:37):
Yeah.
And it shows like memories ofwhat year I rode a bike, you
know, it's pretty crazy.
And it seems like you guys getexcited about when we unpack the
ornaments, which are myornaments and stuff.
Okay.
So those are the most fun.
Those are the only ones I hangbecause I'm too busy, but I have
to still hang my personalizedones.
I'm still involved in thetradition in Christmas tree
decorating.
(01:58):
So that's the only gift we openon the 24th.
Yeah.
What are you looking forward toover break?
Um, one, sleeping.
Two, I'm really excited for SanDiego.
And for a basketball tournamentgoing there with my team.
Playing a lot of basketball.
Yep, yep.
That's basically all I'm doingover break, you know.
Hanging out with all my friends.
(02:20):
It's gonna be fun.
It's gonna be fun.
That's a lot of our winterbreaks.
Yeah, hanging out andbasketball.
Yep.
Okay.
That's Katherine.
Thanks for joining me.
Thanks.
Bye.
Bye.
So now I'm joined by mydaughter, Lucy.
Hi, Lucy.
Thanks for coming on.
Hi.

So we're talking a little bitabout holiday traditions.
(02:43):
What are some of your favoritetraditions about Christmas?
I think some of my favoritetraditions about Christmas are
being able to be with family andgo to my grandparents and
opening our stockings and havingsecret Santa with them.
Those are like some of myfavorites.
You're one of the most, traditional people in our
family, I think.
Yeah.
You're one of the ones who says,we've got to get the tree as
(03:05):
early as possible, start playingChristmas music as early as
possible.
Yeah.
Have everything up.
Cause I just love Christmas.
It's just my favorite time ofthe year.
What is it about the traditionsof Christmas that you love?
What does it make you feel?
I feel like the whole Christmasspirit and just like everything
about Christmas I just love it.
It's my favorite time.
So, I want to just keep doingthe same thing and keep,
(03:25):
carrying on that, spirit that Ifelt, for the years past.
Like, when you were a littlegirl?
Yeah.
What do you look forward todoing over the Christmas break?
