Two former residents of The Lord's Ranch go back over 40 years and interview various generations of former residents, staff members, local towns people, and a local award-winning investigative journalist about a religious-based adolescent treatment facility in Warm Springs, Arkansas. The Lord's Ranch was founded by a financial felon from California; named Bud Suhl. After his time incarcerated, Suhl proclaimed he had turned his life around when he found Jesus. He left California and moved to Randolph County, Arkansas with his new wife Shirley. Bud Suhl opened up inpatient and outpatient treatment facilities for troubled youth. The newly found inpatient facility was in a small town of fewer than 300 residents and has since been the subject of numerous investigations that go as high up as the FBI. The Lord’s Ranch even briefly lost their license three years into business due to numerous complaints of abuse. These investigations ultimately made Bud's son, Ted a felon as well. In 2016, around 50 years after Bud’s conviction, Ted was convicted of bribery and fraud. Ted got out of prison about 4 1/2 years early when Suhl's family friend, Mike Huckabee convinced President Donald Trump to commute his seven-year sentence. As it stands right now, nobody has been able to find any documentation indicating how long Bud spent in prison. At any rate, since Ted had his sentence commuted rather than being fully pardoned, he remains a felon for financial crimes committed when his business hit a low point-- just like his father. With allegations of mental, physical, and sexual abuse at The Lord's Ranch, Sammi and Ryan decided to do a deep dive into the matter. Whether it was good, bad, or ugly, they searched for the full truth. The statements in this podcast may sound one-sided but nearly everybody who felt compelled to defend the ranch was unwilling to be interviewed on the podcast. We even offered to let defensive staff members speak while we asked zero questions and agreed to offer no rebuttals to anything the guest said. It would essentially have been a speech in defense of The Lord's Ranch. But unfortunately, most preferred to type words, rather than speaking on the phone. Some have also tried their best to prevent people from coming onto our podcast to share their story. For somebody claiming innocence, that seems rather suspect. At any rate, we continued asking anybody with any kind of experiece with The Lord's Ranch what it was like. These are their stories.WARNNG: Some of the details spoken in this podcast are disturbing. Kelly Green worked at one of Ted Suhl's numerous Arkansas outpatient facilities as a clinician. She volunteered to share her time with us and told us about multiple ethically questionable business tactics utilized by Ted Suhl. They had marketers planted at schools and courthouses who were incentivized to bring kids into The Lord's Ranch and/or Arkansas Counseling Associates. (This was the name of their outpatient treatmen...
On February 13, 1995, Robert Westerhoff and Christopher Chandler escaped The Lord’s Ranch in a staff vehicle after a staff member left their keys out. Robert was known for being an escape artist from facilities and he took advantage of the keys being left behind. After driving 100 miles, he fell asleep at the wheel and drove off into a large ravine. Robert died in that accident and Chris was airlifted to a hospital with a ruptured...

Kyle Jensen alleges a staff member punched him in the face over and over again when he was only ten years old. The staff failed to remember that Kyle was scheduled to see his parents the next day. Once Jason remembered, it was too late. The immense damage was done--Black eyes, busted lips, etc. Kyle Jensen only stayed at The Lord's Ranch for a month because a staff member named Jason thought he could get away with beating a te...
Salem had nowhere to go. Due to problems at home, he would be bounced from facility to facility and was essentially taken care of by the state. Of the locations, he had to stay, without hesitation, Salem says The Lord's Ranch was the worst of them all. In his own words, his stay at The Lord's Ranch "fucked him up."

Pasha Bell was a victim of sexual assault at the young age of 12. Because of this, she acted out and was sent to The Lord's Ranch for treatment.
Allegedly, during her weekly phone call with her family, she began asking to come back home. As a result, Pasha said a staff member disconnected her phone call without warning. Pasha said she cried as a result and when she got back to her Ranch bedroom, she was stripped down...
Kevin Maxwell had years of experience helping people with mental health and substance abuse problems. Considering The Lord's Ranch routinely hired people with absolutely zero experience, it seemed like he would be a shoo-in for the job they were hiring for. Is it possible that he knew too much and represented a threat to the illegal company culture?

Brad Wallace tells us his story about being at The Lord's Ranch. From staff allowing residents to assault him, to a violent male staff member sexually assaulting him, this was a difficult time in his life. His courage to come forward with his story is admirable and takes tremendous courage.
We're all proud of him for overcoming what was a horrendous experience in his life. Brad Wallace is letting other male vict...
In this episode, we speak to Jane Robertson about her experience as a church member at Living Water Worship Center--a cult-like church in Arkansas with multiple connections to The Lord's Ranch.
I won't give away many details, but I will say this....The reaction to the seizure freaked me out the most. Some people are so hindered by delusion that it can be fatal.

When a child was stuck at The Lord's Ranch while her Mom was terminally ill with cancer, Nurse Jessica Sheets gave her a brilliant loophole that had the young girl back at home within days. But the amazingly kind gesture didn't come without its consequences. I think every facility needs a nurse like Jessica Sheets.

In this episode, Jayme shares her experience with Medicaid fraud while working in the office and what she believes were three large staff members beating up a smaller kid in a shed. A long-time office employee told her that all phone calls were recorded (similar to how kids were told the classrooms were bugged when they were interviewed by people in suits in 2006.) She also talks about how often she saw planes land at the ranch aft...
Roderick is the first staff member who is willing to come on the show while stating that he feels The Lord's Ranch was a good place. I found this quite admirable.
