Speaker 2 (00:31):
Hello and welcome to today's episode of the what
Women Want Today podcast.
I'm Terry Cullums, your host.
Today is day five of the seriesof the 12 Days of Christmas,
and today we're going to talkabout vision boards.
So, before we get started, Ialready have been out for my
morning walk.
I have the hat on, it was 31degrees out and I bundled up

(00:54):
this is my warmest sweater hadmy hat, my gloves, my wool
jacket, and so by the time Ifinished my 30 minute walk, my
body was sweating and my facewas just freezing.
So, but I was out and I watchedthe sun come up.
I timed my walk this morning sothat I would be outdoors when

(01:14):
the sun came up.
I'm trying to set that circadianrhythm.
We're talking about settingintentions here with this 12
series.
Right, we're talking aboutdeveloping our goals and what we
want the new year to look like, and I mentioned very briefly
yesterday that I am in theprocess of developing a new

(01:34):
income stream.
So you know, some people callit a side hustle you know
whatever term you use for it,and this new venture that I'm
starting is going to require meto get out of my comfort zone a
lot.
I did not want to get up and gofor a walk this morning.
I did not want to get up andcurl my hair this morning.
I am, I have gotten into such ahabit of you know what I'm

(02:01):
going to say it like this likenot showing up for my own life
in some aspects, like I love tostay in my pajamas almost the
entire day unless I go to thegym, or sometimes I'll even come
back from the gym and showerand get back in my comfy clothes
.
And when I thought about doingthis venture and I was talking

(02:21):
to my mentor, I said to her Isaid I don't know if I can get
back into this habit.
When you show up to a nine tofive job every day, you get
dressed, you put on your makeup, you present yourself to the
public, and I have increasinglygotten to the point where I

(02:44):
don't want to do that and Idon't go on social media as much
as I know I should to promotethis podcast.
I just flat out just do nothave the desire to.
And so when this new venture Ifound out would require that I
show up every day, not just formyself, but to show up to do it,

(03:05):
I knew I was going to startchanging some of my thought
patterns and some of my habits.
And so, you know, I had gotteninto a habit of after my husband
left to go to work, you know,we get up and we have coffee
together every morning and thenI make him breakfast and he goes
off to work and I start my day.

(03:25):
Sometimes my little Charlie youknow, my little five pound multi
poo or multi, she, I guess heis he wants me to come and sit
back down on the couch with him.
So funny, because he'll paw atmy leg and then I'll look down,
like, do you want me to pick youup?
Like what do you want to pet?
What do you, what do you need?
And he starts to go over to thecouch and he's telling me come,

(03:48):
sit your butt down.
I want to cut all you know.
And so there are days when I'llsit there and I I'm not as
productive as I want to be and Idon't feel good about that.
And so when I committed tomyself and to you all to show up
every day for the 12 days ofChristmas, I really didn't even

(04:11):
know at the time that it wouldhelp prepare me for, you know,
for my little side hustle.
Well, I'm not going to call itlittle but I'll say my side
hustle, my venture, my, myadditional stream of income will
say that I didn't know that.
It would help prepare me forthat.
But here we are and so I havethis crazy busy day today and I

(04:34):
didn't want to take off.
I didn't want to take myselfoff the list, so I wanted to get
out and get my walk done early.
I wanted to come in here and Iwanted to make sure I kept my
commitment to you to show upevery day for the 12 days of
Christmas series.
And so here I am.
You know, I got my hat on.
I'm not.
This series, you'll probablynotice, is a little has a little

(04:58):
bit different feel, because I'mnot like ultra Organized about
everything and it's just sort ofmore off the cuff.
It's just, you know, a littlebit more whatever I feel like
talking about.
But today I am going to talk toyou a little bit about vision
boards.
And if you were somebody thatwatched the secret back in the

(05:21):
day when it came out, when wasthat?
Was that like 2006 or 7?
Somewhere around in there, right Was when the secret first
came out, and I did I jumped allin with the idea of the law of
attraction and I created thevision board and it was funny, a
couple years, how many yearslater was it so that was if it

(05:42):
started in 2006,.
I would say 2014, 2015.
One of my daughters, one of mytwin daughters, said, mom, this
house, because Brian and I builtour dream house, this house was
on your vision board and Ihadn't seen that vision board or
touched that vision board andthought about that vision board
in many years and I struggledfor a minute to like go back and

(06:05):
try to remember the house thatwas on my vision board and you
know it was a white stucco housewith a concrete tile roof, you
know, like you see in a lot ofSouthwest homes, and it had a
beautiful pool in the backyard, just you know.
So they were very similar and Ihadn't really gotten back into
the habits of doing a visionboard until probably, if you've

(06:27):
been following the podcast fromthe beginning, I had Julia on
the podcast and she talks a lotabout manifestation and I
believe, if I'm remembering theepisode correctly, like she puts
a lot of things in her phoneand I did start a visual one.
It's sitting in the corner ofmy office over there.
I never finished it.

(06:48):
I guess I've gotten more awayfrom doing things like that and
doing it like on Pinterest.
So I do have a private visionboard on Pinterest and it's more
about things that represent howI want to feel or what I want
my life to look like, and it's Iguess it's.

(07:10):
There are some, like you know, like visual representations of
the kind of lifestyle I want.
So the traveling, the you know, the friends, the you know the
eating delicious food, and I'mtrying to think what's on there.
I haven't been on there for awhile and I'm having a
beautifully decorated home, those types of things.

(07:30):
But if you're not that kind ofperson and if you don't think
you're going to stick to it, I'mjust going to tell you I have
another method I think mightwork for you.
And so I'm not going to pretendto be a manifestation expert.
I'm not.
I'm not a manifestation expert.
But what I'm really good at,and I have done for as long as I

(07:51):
can remember, is daydream, andI've used this technique with
clients.
If you and we do need tovisualize, we need to visualize
these goals.
So I don't know where you're at, or on day five, I don't know
if you've started to compileanything in your mind yet of
like what you are envisioningfor 2024 and what those goals
are gonna look like.
But I really think thatdaydreaming or some people might

(08:14):
call mind movies I really thinkit will be a very great tool
for you to wrap your brainaround what that really looks
like, like creating that visionin your head, that mind movie.
So did you daydream when youwere a kid?
Because when I was a kid I wasa very vivid, vivid daydreamer

(08:35):
and I Do.
You remember dr Dawn from thepodcast.
I interviewed her and then Iwas on her National Women's Day,
international Women's Day,which I believe is in January.
I was on her show and we shehas taught me she did teach me a
while back this, this exerciseof Imagining your perfect day.

(08:58):
So at that point, you know, Iwas imagining our, our home that
we're in the process ofbuilding.
I was imagining that built andI was imagining myself sitting
in my office as I had putpictures on my Pinterest vision
board of what that might looklike, how it might be decorated.
And I would walk out of thatbeautifully decorated office,

(09:20):
having just finished a clientcall with a coaching client, and
walking out of my office and I,as I'm walking out, like I am
literally walking through anunbuilt house, but in my mind
it's fully decorated and fullyrealized and Walking out to my
backyard with, you know, theflowers that I've envisioned,

(09:43):
that that I will plant, and youknow I, I, we will be able to
see, like the mountain from ourback patio.
So there would be a beautifulmountain range and you know I
have.
I have pictured myself sittingthere many, many times at the
end of the evening with a firein the fireplace and enjoying a
glass of wine with my husband,or going out there taking a

(10:04):
break in my in my work day and,you know, sitting on the porch
swing or in the rocking chair orand just gazing out at the
beautiful scenery that you knowI will see when I walk out of my
patio.
And so, when you're thinkingabout this goal, if you can
attach a mind, movie a daydreamand evoke as much detail and

(10:30):
smell and the sights that you'regonna see and the emotions that
you're gonna feel when you'vereached that goal and that goal
is realized, you, this is goingto be a great tool for you to
realize your dreams, your goals.
And oh, I was thinking thismorning about our, our

(10:50):
conversation today, and IRemember a long time ago I heard
this quote from this guy and Iwish I could tell you who he is
to give him credit.
But he said that Goals aredreams with a deadline.
And I thought, oh, dreams, andI want to talk about daydreaming
.
I want to tell them about mydaydreaming.
And so goals are dreams with adeadline.

(11:13):
So let's create in our mind asyou're going through this and
you might not be able to do ituntil we get to the end, unless
you've already unless you'vealready got it all figured out.
I don't have all mine figuredout.
I'm still working on.
I'm working on it as I gothrough it with you.
I'm going through this everyday and I'm it's.
I have gotten as much growthout of doing this podcast as I

(11:36):
hope some of you have gottenfrom listening to this podcast.
So you know, jot your notesdown from today's episode.
What Goal do you have in mindthat you can create a mind movie
about?
And maybe, maybe it's a coupleof your goals all wrapped in one
.
I've one more thought aboutcreating this vision.

(12:00):
So when you have a routine andI'll use my husband for an
example, I've been picking onhim a lot in these 12 days.
But I'll use my husband for anexample.
When you are trying to let'ssay you're trying to eat
healthier and cut back on thesweets like my husband, his

(12:21):
pattern, his habit is we finishdinner and then I don't like to
go sit down after dinner.
I like to move around a littlebit and try to help my food
digest a little bit.
My ultimate pattern or habitfor me would be to start going
for a walk after dinner, butit's so dark and I live out in

(12:42):
the country so there's no reallylighted path for me to walk on.
I'm working on that.
There is an opportunity for uson our new property to create a
walking path that would go onthe perimeter of our entire
eight acres and my husband saidthat will be about a half a mile
.
I walk a mile in about 17 to 18minutes, so it would be perfect

(13:09):
if I could do that path twice.
The other day, when I wasimagining that walking path, I
like to sit and think about likewhat little moments could I
create as I'm walking along onthat path?
Picture an old bench that'sbeen weathered over the years

(13:29):
and you're walking along thispath and there's a bench sitting
there, or what if you had awheelbarrow, an older
wheelbarrow that was kind oftipped on its side with
wildflowers growing around it?
I've been thinking aboutcreating these moments along my
walking path, and I should do.
Maybe I'll do a story onInstagram this weekend and walk

(13:51):
some of that path for you, soyou can kind of envision that
along with me.
But I've been thinking aboutthese moments and I've also been
thinking about how we could putsome solar generated lights
along that path.
And I don't know if you canpicture this.
I have a, like I said, I am avery vivid imagination, so I'm

(14:11):
picturing these lights to lightup these moments, to light up
our way.
And I think I got off track here, but anyway, I'm just gonna say
my vision would be to walkafter dinner, but currently I
just keep moving around so thatI can.
You know, they say youshouldn't sit down right after
you eat, so that's where I'mgoing with all that.
But my husband will go and siton the couch and I have this

(14:35):
whole evening routine where Itake off my makeup, brush my
teeth and stretch and you knowdo, and I play with my dog a
little bit and I do all thesethings.
Meanwhile he has gotten hissweet treat for the evening and
has headed over to the couch tosit down and eat it.
Now, if you're in the same boatas my husband and you've gotten
into this pattern of you know, when I do this it means I do

(14:59):
this.
So when I sit down on the couchto watch TV, I grab a sweet
treat.
I'm gonna suggest that you havea pattern disruption.
So it's gonna look different.
It's gonna mean that you don'tget up from the dinner table and
go sit on the couch.
It's gonna mean you go outsideif you're okay, you're.

(15:20):
If you're a dude and you'reprobably not, because you
wouldn't be listening to this ifyou were a dude.
So I'll try to think ofsomething real quick off the top
of my head.
This whole podcast today isjust very off the top of my head
, so I hope you don't mindinformality of today's podcast.
But if you're trying to disruptthat pattern of going and
sitting on the couch and eatinga sweet treat, maybe instead you

(15:44):
do like me.
You, you know, spend 10 minutesor so playing fetch with your
dog or you go outside on thepatio and you check your flowers
to see if they need to bewatered, or you know I'm very
much into composting and somaybe you add something to your
compost pile, or I mean name itlike stretching, whatever,

(16:07):
whatever, that is meditation,journaling.
Get into a new habit.
Disrupt the pattern of goingand sitting down and eating your
sweet treat after dinner.
If, if losing some fat orinches around your waist or
moving that number on the scalemeans that you're gonna have to
give up some of your sweettreats, you're gonna have to

(16:27):
disrupt the pattern.
So, okay, that's my thought fortoday.
What else do I have for you?
The five golden rings, right, five gold rings.
So the five golden rings oftenrepresent wealth and value.
So it's discuss the value ofpersonal and experiential wealth
, encouraging you to recognizeand appreciate what truly

(16:51):
matters to you.
So that is your reflection fortoday, with the.
Reflect on the five goldenrings and the and the.
Appreciate what truly mattersto you.
I love that.
I love the idea of you know, visioning yourself, enjoying
your life the way it really isintended to be Like.

(17:13):
What do you really intend it tobe?
What does that look like?
Create that mind movie.
If you are a daydreamer, if youlove the idea of daydreaming or
creating a mind movie, head onover to the Facebook group and,
you know, encourage everybodyelse in the group to get
involved with the daydreaming.
If you are enjoying this onYouTube and you like this
