Hunting, harvesting and eating meat can be an extremely polarizing topic for people! There are a lot of dogmas, stereotyping,  mis-information and assumptions made around these topics. That's why I called in Rebecca Peters to help me convey the concept of uniting hunters and non-hunters through understanding, compassionate and open conversations. She was once a non-hunter, living in urban paradise. By happenstance she found herself submerged into the hunting world, and was pleasantly surprised what she discovered there! Years later, she's became a passionate advocate for women hunters, wild game recipes, and conservation, all while finding her true self out in nature. This is not your " dad's hunting story". This is an unexpected unique conversation about a women loving animals and nature and how we can do our part to ensure a healthy and secure Earth for our kids, grandkids, great grandkids and so on. It's our hope that this conversation is shared with people of all walks of life to open up loving and compassionate conversations around what loving our Earth can look like in all the different ways.

Highlights:

  • Her backstory and her reluctant introduction into the hunting lifestyle.
  • How she was conditioned to think about guns and hunting in an urban city.
  • How her vegetarianism journey ended up with her wanting better quality and ethical meat in her diet.
  • How difficult it can be to get into hunting when you live in an urban centre.
  • How she started talking to her urban peers about her new lifestyle. How awkward it can be when peers are not educated or aware about the hunting lifestyle.
  • Communication Living: One way she’s been able to bridge the gap between non-hunters and hunters is by sharing meals with them! Her and her husband prepare meals for non hunters friends to show them how delicious wild game can taste and share the stories of how they harvested that meat. They often gift their wild game to members of their community.
  • The importance of having a relationship with your food for our health, the health of the planet, and our communities.
  • Mindful eating and hunting.
  • The simple ways that nature can heal us, save our lives even!
  • Keeping the Humanness in Humanity. The problem when society encourages us to be less human.
  • How our bodies feel when all our senses are hyper aware and turned on! Spoiler alert: it feels amazing!
  • Being in the purest natural form of yourself while hunting.
  • How my first sheep helped me heal my postpartum depression and anxiety.
  • Having compassionate conversations with anti-hunters, vegans, and non-hunters and why it’s so important to keep open conversation going.
