Maya AlZaben (2016-20) is a freelance fashion writer and researcher, and recently launched her own marketing/public relations agency Mayaverse PR.
In this week's episode -- co-hosted with current SDSU student Tessa Finamore -- Maya reflects on finding journalism after realizing that interior design was not for her, starting her own fashion/politics website as a student, her favorite SDSU classes and professors, and her decision to attend Parsons School of Design's MA Fashion Studies program in New York City.
Go behind-the-scenes with Maya as she shares sneaking into her first Fashion Week, how she incorporates astrology into her work, staying true to yourself when a negative critique might jeopardize future access, and how much community means to her in today's political climate.
"Where Ya At?" is a podcast focused on the School of Journalism and Media Studies at San Diego State University. Each week, during the Fall and Spring semesters, host Josh Suchon (Class of 1996) interviews alumni to learn about their experiences as college students, entering the workforce, key steps in their professional development, advice they'd give to current students, and details about how they covered a specific story.
