After Howard tried to strip the Assembly of their powers, including hearing court appeals and picking their own record keeper, chaos ensued. The Assembly's secret plea to the king backfired big time, leading to severe consequences for its members. We draw parallels to the strict rule of Governor Berkeley, and highlight the Assembly's journey towards independence, including their pushback against outrageous fees. The episode also introduces the more progressive reign of King William, whose actions laid the groundwork for the spirit of American liberty.
