Speaker 1 (00:01):
how we doing
everybody and welcome into
wisconsin sports on the go withtrage.
I'm your host, trage, we'recoming back.
It's march 19th.
It is a greatest time of year.
March madness is here.
We watched the first first fourgames last night there, we
watched two of them.
We got more coming up tonighthere as we're talking, just the
madness.
The madness has startedbaseball right around the corner
(00:25):
or watching the cubs and thedodgers play over in tokyo at
whatever two in the morning Idon't even care I don't even
care about that crap show.
I'm just glad that it isn'ttechnically opening day.
They give us opening day inamerica because it's the
american fast time, so we get tokeep it here.
I love that.
That's okay.
They have their own baseballover there, we can have ours.
(00:45):
But the cubs and dodgersplaying over there, that's okay.
I don't don't waste the brewerstime by going over to tokyo.
Keep it.
Cubs, dodgers, yankees overthere, I don't care, that's all
right.
But we're here.
It's a great wednesday.
It's snowing in the state ofwisconsin.
We don't like that, butotherwise it's a great day.
Aaron's here tonight.
Aaron, how we doing it'sWednesday.
It's a great Wednesday.
Speaker 2 (01:04):
It is, yeah, no, it's
March is.
I don't know about you, man, Ithink March is zipping by,
though it's been a quick monthand yeah, that's absolutely
crazy.
I think we've definitely sawour last snow for the year.
Knock on wood, I just I don'teven think I need to knock on
wood.
It's been just warmer.
It's been warmer in general.
Speaker 1 (01:30):
So just the fact that
I'm hearing that you guys are
getting snow is like that's wow, that's I mean hopefully it's
not like overwhelmingly, youknow, coming down, but it's uh,
they said four to seven inchesin some places.
So I I heard you know, I don'tknow what we're gonna get out
here, but four to seven inchesis what I was told was happening
in some places.
I don't know exactly how muchwe got here, but I know we got
some, so we'll wait and see.
On that one it has been.
I tell you what, guys, sincethe last time we talked it has
been absolutely, has been hectic.
(01:52):
Okay, it has been hectic.
My wife's been hectic.
I'm quick side note.
Right, I can go side notes.
I can go quick side notes so bigstuff, yeah, big stuff, big
stuff here.
So my wife and I we had ourbaby boy over this past week,
brev Brevin.
Brevin Pritzel, right, got aname after Badger legend, brevin
Pritzel there.
So Brev was born this last week, wednesday.
(02:13):
So that was exciting, right.
We had the show on, we werelistening to the show you guys
know it's prerecorded,everything like that.
Right now we're going to getlive here in the future, but
right now just working withstation and everything like that
.
But uh, we're listening to theshow in the delivery room.
So that's that's kind of whatour Wednesday was there.
She loves to listen to the showafter the fact there.
So she always listened to it.
She's like, well, let's listento it.
I'm like, okay, I guess youknow whatever.
(02:35):
So we're in the delivery room,we're listening to the show
there.
But yeah, so it has beenabsolutely a hectic last week
here, but we're excited, he'shealthy, he's home, everything
like that.
So it's been great there.
But hey, I mean, I said itright then because he's 37 weeks
.
Right, but I said the Badgersmust be, they're going to put on
a national championship runbecause I said he didn't want to
(02:56):
miss it.
That's why.
That's why he came out earlybecause he was out to watch them
play Northwestern on Thursday.
I mean, we didn't know, right,he was out to watch Northwestern
on Thursday.
He's ready to go, he's home,he's healthy, he's ready to
watch the Badgers here.
Start out this little track herein Denver, right, the
three-seat in Denver.
We're going to talk about thathere in a little bit.
But I mean, we got lots to getto here.
(03:17):
We got lots to get to todayabout my fantastic baby boy
that's the last time I'm goingto say it the little man himself
there.
But that's enough about that.

Like I said, you want to tellus we suck?
Just tell us we suck.
You can do it on any of thoseplatforms there.
So thank you guys for tuning intonight here.
We got lots to get to rightaway and this went across my
phone last night.
There the Packers made a movebut it was, I guess you could
(04:21):
say, surprising, right, thiswasn't.
Everybody was like Devontae, adams and then Adams signed and
then they moved on to DK andthen DK signed.
We threw our arms up.
We're like what are they goingto do now?
Oh, cooper Cup's stillavailable.
Okay, not Cooper Cup anymore.
What are the Packers going todo?
Right?
This one I didn't see comingMikael Hardman from the Kansas
(04:44):
City Chiefs.
Hardman seems like he's been alifetime Kansas City Chief guy.
I don't know, it's like he'salways been there.
As far as I can remember, that's where he's been.
He's kind of floated around.
He's in, he's out.
But out of all the guys thatwere left in free agency from
the list that I was looking atand I was just looking at all
these guys that were left over,I guess you could say that were
left over.
I guess you could say he wasprobably the most durable of
(05:05):
them all.
You know, not banged up, not aband-aid.
You know just a guy you'regoing to bring him in.
He's experienced.
But I think the biggest thingwith this one, he's a speedy
returner and Keyshawn Nixonstated at the end of the season
he doesn't want to returnanymore, he doesn't want to be a
kick returner.
Insert Mikkel Hardman.
(05:25):
Want to be a kick returner?
Insert mikhail hardman.
Here you go right.
That's an important part of thegame now because the nfl
continuously, year after year,is trying to find a way to get,
you know, guys to returnkickoffs.
Right, that's the big thing nowwe're trying to figure out
should we back kickers up?
What?
How?
How should we entice guys toreturn the football?
This is a.
This is a moment in the nfl, inthe the history of the nfl, I
guess you could where I thinkkick returning is going to be
put into the forefront, becausethat's what the NFL wants.
(05:47):
They want more returns.
So having a good returner, thatcould be a premium right, maybe
Hardman, I can't say.
I've watched Hardman return alot of kicks so I don't know if
he's like you know, he's notDevin Hester back there or
anything crazy like that.
But you got to have somebodysolid right.
Flip the field for you, set youup solid.
I think McCall Hardman could bethat guy for the Green Bay
Packers.
Plus, he's an experienced dude.
(06:07):
I mean, how many times hasKansas City Chiefs been in the
Super Bowl?
I mean with McCall Hardman onthe team, right, so he's been
there, done that guy, he's beento the postseason.
He's going to be able to helpthese guys out.
A guy who's going to be a starwide receiver on your team, he's
not that guy.
No, I think the Packers, honestly, they might answer the
question in the draft.
(06:28):
They might go get a guy right.
We talked about that a littlebit there.
But, to be honest with you, Ithink they like the guys in the
room and I think I this is mypersonal opinion and a lot of
people are going to hate on thisone guys in the room too.
To be honest, I think there's alot of potential.
Right, we didn't get to seeDobbs was hurt.
Right, two concussions in thatyear.
(06:50):
Right, and Christian Watson isgoing to be banged up for a
while.
But Wicks that Tavian Wicks hasgot a ton of upside.
Stop dropping the footballright.
Same with Jaden Reed.
Stop dropping the football.
You have multiple guys rightthere.
Two of your best receivers havea drop problem.
That can be fixed.
That can be fixed right.
There's certain things withreceivers and their games and
(07:11):
their mindsets and differentthings that you can't fix and
it's hard to fix.
Those are the drop problem, thefocus.
I think that's something thatcan be fixed.
And for me, I like the look ofthe Greenwood Packers, I like
the look of the wide receiverroom.
Now, do I think you can add yes,I'm not saying you can't add
like, don't get me wrong wouldI've taken devante adams?
Yeah, who wouldn't right?
(07:32):
Who wouldn't add more starpower?
If you can, I agree, I am allfor that.
But if this is going to allowthe greenback packers to go out
and you, you got to bring inpieces, right.
Sometimes it isn't the starsthat make the difference at the
end of the day, sometimes it'sthe little pieces that it's like
oh, you know, look at theEagles.
They added Zach Bond, and ZachBond was not supposed to be.
(07:53):
You know, he was great.
He was a great linebacker.
I loved him at Wisconsin, right, big Wisconsin guy here.
I loved him at Wisconsin.
He was great.
But he wasn't supposed to bethis all pro great, you know pro
bowler that was going to justbe the leading tackler on the
Eagles and just do it all andhave a big pick here and a big
pick there and helped the Eaglesget to a Super Bowl.
That wasn't what he wassupposed to be, but he ended up
(08:14):
being that guy.
And then Oren Burke steps inand you know the Packers drafted
him way back in the day and hewasn't supposed to be this great
linebacker but he filled in forthe Eagles and had a good I
mean, had a decent enoughplayoff right, decent enough
time out there.
So it's not always the starsmake your team.
The stars are the ones who makethe big plays right, but it's
the in-between plays.
(08:35):
You got to have guys who aregoing to fill in and do the
little things and that's aMcCall Hardman.
That's a Hardman kind of guythat's.
You know what the Packers havedone with Hobbs bringing him in
that, uh, secondary, the littlethings right.
So, aaron, I mean, you hearthis you see McCall Hardman on
his way to Green Bay.
What are your thoughts?
What are your thoughts on himcoming in?
Good move, bad move, just uh, Imean, I take it as uh, just
(08:56):
okay, like not what I wasexpecting, not gonna like.
I'm not gonna like blow upTwitter right now and tell
everybody about it like this isthe greatest thing that's ever
happened, but solid move.
I think it's a depth piece.
I don't think it's a bad depthpiece.
Speaker 2 (09:09):
Yeah, I'm along the
same wavelength there as well,
because I mean, to me he's kindof like a like a comparable to
me is like Brandon Iuke a littlebit, you know, cause he can run
the ball, you know you can, youcan pitch, pitch one in the
backfield and and kind of runthem off to the sides and stuff
like that, like he's.
He's versatile in the runninggame and obviously in the in the
pass catching game.
So, yeah, I mean a guy like yousaid, a guy who's been there,
(09:32):
done that, as far as you know, competed for sewer bowls, won
sewer bowls, um, and been aroundlike a winning pedigree.
I mean he played at Georgia, like all the type of things that
you know.
The makeup of the guy isprobably pretty good, you know,
like I imagine he he just goesabout his business the right way
, um, just being around thosetype of environments.
You know coach Reed there inKansas City, like, like you said
(09:53):
, just kind of one of those beenthere, done that type of guys
and and I think some of that canrub off on these younger
receivers you know you talkabout with the Packers that you
that you like so much there, andI think that, like you said, is
it if Devontae Adams, arepeople rushing out to get, you
know, hartman's jersey?
No, but, like you said, allthose in-between plays, like you
know you mentioned, like theEagles with, like Jahad Dotson
(10:14):
in the Super Bowl.
You know that was one of thosethings where he made an impact
and like no one thought he wouldmake an impact at all.
So, like these in-betweenreceivers, these guys that are
kind of just, you know, scratching to get a couple
catches here and there, whoknows?
I mean, this guy has wheels, weknow that.
So I think he could bedefinitely effective in the
passing game and just kind ofopen things up a little bit more
(10:35):
in the running game.
Honestly as well.
Granted, they use them kind ofall over the place like that.
Speaker 1 (10:41):
Yeah, no, and you
know we talk about a drop
problem.
This guy had one of the biggestcatches in the biggest moment,
right, he won the super bowl.
He had the game winning catchin that super bowl for the
chiefs.
I believe that was when whatthat was just a couple years ago
, wasn't it?
the niners I think it was thenight, it was one in overtime.
It was that one in overtimethat he caught it there on the
road.
I mean that's a big catch.
That is a big moment for a bigcatch.
Just ask mark andrews how thatgoes, because he had a chance
(11:04):
for a big moment there and a bigcatch and well, drop the
football right.
So I mean that's a big thingtoo, as a guy with focus and
what we saw there, it's a guywith some focus.
He's got something to prove nowthat he's out of kansas city.
Can he help a different teamwin?
Can he find a way to help thepackers get over a hump?
That's something that I thinkis very underappreciated of some
(11:27):
of these guys is that they'retrying to prove themselves to it
, because now it's like, okay, maybe I only look good because
of Pajama Holmes.
So now I got to go out and Igot to prove to people like, hey
, I'm pretty darn good by myself, right, and I think, like I
said before, though, I thinkit's a huge thing for the return
game, because you've got tohave a good returner.
This allows Keyshawn Nixon tojust focus on being a cornerback
(11:48):
, not having to focus on beingout here Because Keyshawn Nixon,
I mean you're talking about aguy who said I want to be
quarterback, he wants to be CB1.
I don't think he's a CB1.
He's got, you know, jair stillin the fold.
Jair, he's still in his books.
They haven't moved him yet.
They signed Nate Hobbs.
I mean, I'm okay with keepingJair at this point, just to say
(12:11):
screw it.
But do you want to take thatcap hit?
That's the question.
Do you trust that Jair stays?
Because if he stays healthy, ifJair stays healthy, and you
just added Nate Hobbs and youhave Keyshawn Nixon in the room
and you got some of these youngguys and you got Xavier McKinney
back there in the safety roomalong with Evan Williams.
That's a pretty darn goodsecondary.
That's a pretty darn goodsecondary, if you ask me.
You're not asking Nate Hobbs tobe more than what he is.
(12:32):
He's just a solid guy like he'sgot.
He's a very versatile guy.
You know they, everybody onthis Nate Hobbs moves like he's
not great.
He's not great.
You weren't asking for great, you were just asking for good
enough.
Good enough, good job done.
That's what you needed.
And now you go into the draftand you answer some of these
questions in the pass rush room.
You got to answer the pass rush, yet that's something
everybody's so stinking worriedabout.
(12:54):
The offense right now.
It's like I heard the greatestthing today.
They were talking about theEagles and the Eagles Super Bowl
run and it was, you know, theEagles against the Packers.
Their offense sucked.
And anybody who wants to tellme different Aaron's an Eagles
fan and he's going to tell methe same darn thing.
The Eagles offense suckedagainst the Packers.
Their defense won them thatgame and in the next couple of
games out there it wasn't thesame story.
(13:15):
The Eagles offense, you know, exploded against the commanders,
right.
So it changed it flipped scriptthere.
But you have to have a you justyou can't win games being like
the bangles.
You can't just expect.
Because now there's a lot onjoe burrow's plate right now,
because if joe burrow's offensedoes not win him again, him into
the playoffs, they're gonnalook back on it and say, whoa,
why'd you need t higgins?
Why didn't we just get yousomebody on defense, right?
(13:38):
So the packers are in the sameboat.
Right now.
It's like we can keep adding onthe offense, but you got to
respect the defense too.
You got to look at addingpieces on that defense too.
So that's kind of where I thinkthe Packers will shift gears
and look forward to now.
But hey, we got lots more toget to tonight here we got
Brewers talk on the backside ofthe commercial break.
Here We'll be right back injust a minute.
(13:59):
Welcome back into WisconsinSports on the go on this March

This next segment of the showhere is brought to you by
(14:44):
Foreman's Hardware.
Foreman's Hardware offerseverything from home essentials
to farm supplies, house to farm, grills to drills.
Foreman's Hardware has got youcovered.
Visit today in Loyal, Colby orMedford, wisconsin.
There, tell them Trade sent you.
They'll get you a little bit ofa percent off.
They'll get you some money off.
They'll get you some money offon your order there.
Just tell them, trade sent youat any one of those locations
(15:06):
there.
So I mentioned you guys earlier.
I'm a dad, now, right.
So we got our dad joke of theday.
I can make my dad jokes now, right, I had a lot of them I was
talking about.
You know, why can't you hear apterodactyl p, aaron?
Why can't you hear apterodactyl p?
Not a clue.
The p is silent, dude.
The p is silent, that's all yougotta know.
But everybody right now here isour dad joke of the day.
(15:30):
Why did the coffee file apolice report?
I'd love to know it got mugged.
That's all you need to know.
That's all you need to knowright there.
That's your dad joke of the day, folks, make sure you go tell
your kids that one.
So we got lots more to get intotonight here on the show.
We got Melio Minute coming upin this hour here, goodness
(15:54):
gracious.
We got all kinds of stuff tohappen here, but we got to get
to the Brewers.
We got to get to the Brewers.
We got to get to the Brewershere because Joey Ortiz was
announced as the startingshortstop for the Milwaukee
Brewers in this upcoming season.
That comes in light of BryceTerang with a little bit of some
soreness in that throwing armgoing from short to first.
(16:14):
That can be expected.
Right, you play second base fora while.
You're not really making thosedeep throws from shortstop.
You start making some deepthrows from shortstop there and
while your arm's going to gettired, right, it's a little bit
longer.
It's a different throw thanwhat he's been used to.
So it's something you know.
Like Pat Murphy said, it'sunfortunate because we just went
from he's going to play secondto we're just going to switch it
(16:35):
up, maybe to play short, right.
So it to switch it up, maybe toplay short, right.
So it's very unfortunatebecause it's like we're gonna
put him at second.
Now we're gonna try him atshort because we feel like this
guy's got the best glove.
We want to keep ortiz at third.
We maybe want to put durbin atsecond base or vinny capra at
second base, and now it's like,oh crap, right, or bryce terrain
can't throw from short.
So now ortiz got slide over.
So now third base is a questionmark again.
(16:55):
It's like what, what are wegoing to do?
So the pieces are moving Well,we finally got that kind of a
jerk.
We're done with that one.
Ortiz is playing shortstop.
We don't know.
That's the biggest questionright now, too, for me is what
is going to be the Vinny Capra, monasterio, durbin.
What are they going to do?
Because Capra is out of options?
He's having a fantastic springand he's out of options.
(17:18):
So what do you do?
My opinion monasterio anddurbin both have options, right.
So you don't know, right?
Vinnie capra, you see a lot ofguys who go into the spring and
they're like just lighten it up.
Six home runs, seven home runs, eight home runs they've batten
400.
And then you bring them into aregular season and like, they
bat 100, you know 150, and theyhit one home run and they just
(17:40):
it's not the same right.
So, honestly though, what's itgoing to hurt If you send Durbin
down or you send Monasteriodown because they have options?
You bring Capra up, say helights the world on fire.
Maybe this is just a a one ofthose diamond in the rough
breakout years for a random dude.
It happens Like there's beenguys who have done it I can't
(18:01):
name off the top of my head butthere's been guys who've done it
before.
I mean it happens.
So maybe Vinny's that guy.
If he's not, well, guess what?
You can always just bringDurbin or Monasterio back up.
But the difference is you can'tjust bring Cabra back up
because he's going to be sentout.
He's going to be sent out, he'sgoing to get designated for
assignment, and then other teamshave the opportunity to come
pick him up.
(18:21):
You don't want to deal withthat, because then what if he?
What if the Cubs say, well, that sounds like an enticing
deal, let's sign him up, andthen all of a sudden he's
batting you know 250, 270, 280,whatever, with the Cubs there
and launching bombs left andright.
Now, with vinny capra being onthe roster, the open.
He better be on the opening dayroster because what I've seen
(18:43):
in spring he's done.
He's done everything that hehas to do to prove himself in
spring.
Right, they, they're throwingthe infielding just fine, right,
hitting just fine.
He's done everything he's gotto do to prove himself.
Otherwise you're going to tellme, basically, spring training
doesn't mean anything for theseguys because of that performance
, what he's been able to do sofar.
And we were going to talk aboutthe stats of this Brewers team a
(19:04):
little bit here, uh, but I meanhe's in 17 at bats.
He's got seven hits, four homeruns, 412 average.
If that isn't enough to say, like this dude's been lighting
it up in spring, I don't knowwhat it is right.
So you gotta kind of like wetalked about that one day.
You know, uh, I think it waslast week or two weeks ago that
we talked about spring trainingstats and stuff like that.
And if they mattered, if theydidn't, they gotta matter a
(19:26):
little bit.
They gotta matter just a littlebit to guys.
And if you put a springtogether like this, you deserve
a shot.
So I'm in with vinny gettingthat shot there.
But we're gonna see what.
What do the brewers do now?
Now that we know ortiz is short, we know Bryce Durant's second,
what's going to be the optionat third?
Because Oliver Dunn's had apretty good spring.
I mean he's been launchingballs off the bat there.
He's been a hundred plus and Ibelieve like 12 or 13 different
(19:48):
balls that he's hit.
So I mean that's impressive.
He's been putting a good swingon the ball so far.
So maybe we see a guy likeOliver Dunn slot in there.
We know they haven't reallytinkered with this one, but Sal
Frelick can play third base.
We know that he tested him outthere.
Sal Frelick has been showingsome absolute pipes in spring.
I know everybody last year waslike this guy.
He's got the softest contact inthe league Not in the whole
(20:12):
league, but he had one of thesoftest contacts and he just
didn't have the pop this season.
I'm watching him in spring herea little bit and he's hitting
bombs left and right.
I believe he's got what.
He's got a couple home runs.
I believe One so far here.
But I mean watching him.
He's had some loud outs.
He's had some loud contact.
It is what you want him to seeout of Sal Frelick.
(20:37):
So maybe see a.
We'll see what happens therewith that third base spot and
what they decide Pretty soon.
I mean, we're what, 10 daysaway from opening day of
baseball, I believe it's gettingright around the corner, though
Maybe nine, I don't know.
That's not my strong suit there, but this is what my strong
suit is is yelling about peoplewho make stupid comments on
social media.
So let's get to that Because Ilet's get to that because I saw
(21:01):
a post.
Aaron, I love these crazyBrewer fans just as much as I
love the Greg Gard haters thatcome out of the woodworks after
the Big Ten championship gameand say Greg Gard sucks after he
led them to a Big Tenchampionship.
So I saw this post and they saidthey listed all the Brewers
pitchers that are hurt Woodruff, myers, gasser, dl Hall, ashby
(21:23):
all on the aisle to start theyear, right, so they're all out.
And this guy, this person.
They said this is why you hitfree agency pitching market a
little bit harder in theoffseason, because you have all
these guys being out right now.
Woodruff, I mean, I don'tunderstand Outside of Woodruff
and Gasser.
So those two were expected.
Woodruff is actually ahead ofschedule, but Gasser was
(21:43):
expected to be on the aisle tostart Myers, dl Hall, ashby,
they weren't expected to be outnow.
Ashby, I wouldn't bank on himbeing a successful starter
because we haven't seen it yet.
I wouldn't have banked on it.
But DL Hall was a promising notprospect anymore of a promising
pitcher that you had in thereand Tobias Myers was a dog last
year.
So you brought in Jose Quintana.
(22:05):
What else were you bringing in?
Like, honestly, what else wereyou bringing in?
Because if, okay, say, youbrought in a guy you know Aaron
was talking to me about thisbefore the show and he was
talking about the Orioles, withCharlie Morton there, what are
you going to do?
Bring in Charlie Morton?
And then what If Tobias Myersdoesn't get hurt?
What are you going to do withTobias Myers?
Or what are you going to dowith Charlie Morton if Tobias
(22:27):
Myers doesn't get hurt?
What are you going to do withhim?
You have Nestor Cortez, youhave Freddy Peralta, you have I
mean, technically at that pointyou would have had, I mean Aaron
Savali.
You still have Savali in there.
You have a plethora of pitchersthat you're working from right
now.
So, and Jose Quintana?
I forgot about him.
You had Jose Quintana too.
What are you going to do with aguy like Charlie Moore?
(22:49):
You would just add okay, moredepth, great.
So what do we do?
We throw him in the bullpen, like, okay, you have all these
guys, trevor McGill, out therein the closers role, who knows
(23:09):
what the?
I would take Craig Yoho in mybullpen right now we're going to
talk about him in a little bitbut I would take him in my
starting rotation.
I know I started rotation mybullpen over a guy like Charlie
Morton just because I had a sidedepth, right.
So I I just fans who do thisstupid thing where they're like,
oh you know, these guys gothurt.
(23:30):
So now I'm going to complain.
Now you would have complainedif we would have signed Charlie
Morton because he wouldn't havebeen good enough.
You would have complained, justlike the people complain.
Like I was mentioning afterJose Quintana, everybody was
complaining oh, he's got a homerun problem, but we were
complaining before that thatMark and Anasio won't spend
money.
He goes and spends money.
We complain.
It's just people complaining,and it's ridiculous.
(23:51):
That's what I wanted to get outof this.
Is it just ridiculous?
You have some young guns.
You have some young guns whoare coming up here.
The Brewers are building thisbaby and I don't know if anybody
hasn't noticed this yet, butthey're building this with young
guns.
They're not going out andgetting all these veterans.
They're not saying let's signup the world right.
They're getting young guns andthey're saying let's go and do
(24:12):
this, let's see what we got inour room.
And I kind of like that motto.
And I kind of like that motto.
Why would you not want to buildyour roster with what you got
right, with what you've built up?
You're Garrett Mitchells,you're Jackson Churrios, you're
Blake Perkins and you're SalFrelix and Bryce Terang and Joey
Ortiz, who you traded for there, and you're going to have a
young catcher, jefferson Cuero,at some point there.
But even William Contreras wasstill learning and young when he
(24:35):
came to Milwaukee.
He's still young when he cameto Milwaukee.
Your pitching staff is guys thatyou've home-raised right.
Looking at Freddy Peralta, looking at guys like Brandon
Woodruff when he comes back, tobias Myers, robert Gasser, dl
Hall was basically just aprospect when he came in.
Iron Ashby.
Your bullpen is all guys inthat same realm.
I mean, it's guys that you'vetaken a chance on and they've
produced.
So I kind of like that mottothat the Brewers are rolling
(24:58):
with there.
Would I be opposed, like Italked about with the Packers,
would I be opposed if they wentout and they signed?
I don't know, garrett Cole no.
I wouldn't be opposed to it,right?
I mean everybody's going to belike let's go sign this dude,
but I'm a realist.
Speaker 2 (25:14):
Well, like Kyle
Gibson maybe, yeah, like.
Speaker 1 (25:17):
Kyle Gibson you can
maybe get, but whose roster spot
you want him to take?
Right, it's not like thebrewers aren't bringing in a guy
where it's like automatic, right he's in there, boom no,
they're not bringing in that guy, they're not yeah cole.
Speaker 2 (25:30):
Yeah cole is yeah.
Speaker 1 (25:32):
Somebody like am I a
dreamer who says I hope I wish
that they would go and do this?
Sure, I'm a dreamer who saysthat, but it's to happen.
I'm a realist right now tellingyou that the Brewers are going
to do this thing from the insideout and I'm going to cheer for
it either way, like I'm all infor it.
I'm all in for it because, guess what?
They've had success doing it.
And until they don't havesuccess doing it, then okay.
If you guys want to complainafter they don't have that
(25:53):
success, after it all blows, complain, be my guest, text me,
call me whatever, be my guest.
But until then, shut up, justdone but logan henderson.
I did see the young gun there, logan henderson.
He is expected possibly to geta spot start.
He was sent down to the minorleague camp.
He was brought back up to thebig league camp there.
So starting pitcher loganhenderson might get a spot start
(26:15):
there.
Eight two-thirds inning inspring here, seven hits, four
earned runs.
Uh, he's pretty solid.
I mean a solid guy, just a spotstarter.
Nothing crazy to him there, butI did.
I saw some stats here aboutCraig Yoho, real quick here
before we got to hit the adbreak here and get to the
Badgers on the backside of that.
But I did see some Craig Yohostats and I want to get to this
because they talked about himcompared to Devin Williams.
(26:36):
They talked about him comparedto Devin Williams and you know
the airbender versus what we'regoing to call the yo-yo, that's
what we're going to call him andit's a slower version with
similar you know similarmovements what Devin Williams
said.
So they compared the twochange-ups and I thought this
was just absolutely ridiculous.
Craig Yoho's change-up dropsfour feet, four feet on its way
(26:59):
to the plate.
That's nuts, that is justabsolutely nuts.
And it breaks about a foot anda half horizontally.
That's wild.
That is just absolutely wild.
So comparing that to DevinWilliams, his changeup was 84
miles per hour, 42 inches ofdrop and 19 inches of fade.
So that's your horizontalmovement.
There Craig Yohos comes in at77 miles per hour, about four
(27:27):
feet 47 inches, about four feetof drop and 18 inches of fade.
That's ridiculous.
And his sinker Craig Yoho'ssinker 94 miles per hour.
Talk about nuts.
You could drop a 94 mile perhour sinker on a guy and then
you come back with a 77 mile perhour change up to back it up.
That is a crazy drop off rightthere.
So I am excited to see CraigYoho I just mentioned him before
there Maybe getting a shot.
He's going to be up in the bigsthis year at some point.
(27:48):
We just don't know.
When Pat Murphy did hint thathe probably started in the
minors and we'd see him up afterthat.
But hey, break, we got badgerson the backside.
So make sure you are comingback here on the show.
(28:09):
Welcome back into wisconsinsports on the go with trage.
I'm your host.
Trage.
It is march 19th, we're here.
I know the first four ishappening tonight here.
Some great games across collegebasketball just starting out.
The march madness slate here.
Nit tournament too, happeningright now.
But I gotta mention before weget to our mellow yellow minutes
.
I'm going to mention this nextsegment.
These next segments are broughtto you by a couple of our
fantastic sponsors here.
First, sport and spine clinicof Greenwood expert traditional
(28:31):

(28:51):
And then also Marshfield MotorSpeedways.
Don't really have an ad readfor them yet.
Mr Wayne O'Brevrick over thereat the racetrack has not gotten
me a ad read yet, but the showis also sponsored by Marshfield
Motor Speedways there inMarshfield, wisconsin.
Make sure you are checking outthem on Facebook because you can
find the schedule there.
Get yourself down to theracetrack this summer.
Tons of family fun for all agesthere.
(29:12):
So make sure you're gettingdown to the racetrack there.
But, aaron, let's get over toour Mellow Yellow Minute Now,
everybody.
Aaron, let's get over to ourMellow Yellow Minute Now.
Everybody knows every week wedo our little trivia time,
mellow Yellow Minute there.
I want you guys to go grab yourfavorite beverage.
Make sure you're cracking it upthere.
I got my Mellow Yellow, as I doevery single week, and I want
to talk.
It's March Madness, right?
So we got to get our MarchMadness question which NCAA
(29:37):
tournament team has the most?
What did we decide onappearances?
I think we decided I'll saywins.
I'll say wins.
Speaker 2 (29:45):
Let's go wins.
Speaker 1 (29:46):
Which team has the
most NCAA tournament wins?
We'll go top five.
Aaron, what do you got?
Rattle them off.
Speaker 2 (29:53):
I'll say it in no
particular order, but I do think
this one's gotta be like toptwo.
I gotta say Duke right, numberthree.
Oh seriously, I cursed myselfalready.
Syracuse, give me Syracuse.
Speaker 1 (30:07):
Syracuse is on the
list, but they're number nine,
wow.
Speaker 2 (30:10):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (30:11):
North Carolina.
North Carolina is number one133.
I mean, you think between RoyWilliams and Dean Smith they've
had a lot of winning.
Speaker 2 (30:18):
Yeah, 100%.
I don't know if I feel greatabout this one, but Gonzaga
Gonzaga is not on the list.
Yeah, I didn't feel great aboutit.
Speaker 1 (30:29):
That's only strike
one.
You got strike one.
Speaker 2 (30:32):
I know Georgetown
hasn't been good in a while.
Not Georgetown, Not Georgetownman.
Give me conference at least.
Give me conference, Elyse.
Give me conference here.
Speaker 1 (30:41):
We got an SEC team, a
Big 12 team and a used-to-be
Pac-12 team, now Big 10.
One of the most historic onesyeah, give me UCLA.
Ucla is number five on the list.
So you got a Big 12 team and aSEC team, sec, sec let's go
(31:05):
these ones relatively easier.
Come on, think about it.
Think about it big 12, best, one of the better basketball
teams in the big 10.
A store, a big 12 historically, like every single year every
single year except for this year, they kind of stink big 12.
Speaker 2 (31:22):
They're blue blue big
man drawn.
Just give me, give me that one,I'll get the, I'll get the sec
jayhawks on, oh yeah yeah, theyand they do, you're right.
Yeah, they do stink this year, that's right they do one last
one, sec team.
Speaker 1 (31:36):
They are also blue
sec.
Speaker 2 (31:39):
Blue give aaron is
not a huge college basketball
fan I am not, but I should knowthe car, I mean like I should
know the conferences.
The same thing applies tofootball.
So it's like come on, uh, secblue, give me, give me like one
more little little nugget therea quarterback came out of here.
Speaker 1 (31:56):
Who likes putting
mayonnaise in his coffee?
Oh, Kentucky, yeah, Kentucky,Kentucky with 130.
So your top five for most NCAAtournament wins all time North
Carolina, Kentucky, Duke, Kansas, UCLA, and then we got Michigan
State coming in in the sixthspot.
There you go, there is your topof the I mean just top Pretty
(32:17):
good teams in there, historicteams right there.
Ucla hasn't been as big recent, but way back in the day, 11
championships yeah, pretty darngood.
Speaker 2 (32:26):
Who was that coach?
I know, you know that.
Speaker 1 (32:29):
Mr Wooden himself yes
, yes, there you go.
He was yeah, that's yeah, justabout all you need to know there
.
That's about all you need toknow.
There is.
They named an award after him,so like I don't, I don't know
what else, what else you reallyneed to know about john wooden.
But yeah, that's that's aboutit.
I was just.
I was trying to see his uhrecord, his career record, if
(32:51):
they showed it there.
Speaker 2 (32:52):
But I was gonna say I
know you'll know that, like
john, like I know that.
Speaker 1 (32:56):
So I didn't know if I
.
I was hoping that I'd be ableto see his career record, but oh
, maybe right here.
Let's see here His careerrecord 664 and 162.
Wow, that is over an 800.
That is over an 80% winpercentage.
Right there, that is ridiculous.
That is ridiculous.
(33:17):
This guy yeah, that's all weneed to say.
Everybody knows about him, everybody needs to know about
him.
He is just that fantastic.
So let's get over.
I want to talk about somethingfantastic that we saw over the
weekend there and that was theBadgers.
I just got to say it.
I know there's some peopleacross social media, like I
mentioned before there, who toldme that Greg Gard choked the
(33:40):
last game out and everythinglike that.
They somehow found a way tomake the what the badgers did in
the big 10 tournament look likecrap.
That's what you know thesepeople love to do.
I gotta be honest with youwatching wisconsin in this big
10 tournament, I I thoroughlythought it was some of the best
basketball they've played.
That game against MichiganState was the most complete UCLA
(34:04):
.
They dominated from thethree-point line.
Offensively, defensively, theydominated UCLA.
Northwestern was a gritty solidwin.
I didn't know what was going tohappen there, but it was a
gritty solid win and I mean allin all they took care of
business.
And the Big Ten Championship,I've got to be honest with you,
doesn't mean jack solid win, andI mean all in all they took
care of business.
And the big 10 championship, Igotta be honest with you,
doesn't mean jack squad, itdoesn't.
(34:24):
I saw a quote, um, I believe itwas.
It was some guy from 100.9, thesomething I don't know some
radio station.
He's a michigan fan, so whocares.
But he did say something that Ithought was quite intriguing, I
guess, and he said and this wason michigan being a five seed
either a selection show needs tobe moved back to 7 pm or the
(34:44):
Big Ten needs to start theirtournament on Monday and end on
Saturday.
There's quite literally noargument for Wisconsin having a
better seed than Michigan.
None, michigan beat the Badgerstwice.
So that's his kind of argumentthere of why he believes that
Michigan should be ahead of him.
(35:04):
I will say this Michigan wentinto the Big Ten tournament
sucking, lost the game toIllinois, lost the game to
Maryland, lost the game toMichigan State.
Michigan had a shot for atleast a tie of the Big Ten
regular season championship.
They lost three straightheading into the Big Ten
(35:25):
tournament.
So now, if we say thattournament play doesn't really
matter that much, what is thecommittee supposed to look at?
The committee looks at recencybias, right, they're very
recency.
What did we see this team doleading up to this point?
And I got to be honest with you.
I'm looking at okay, let's lookat Michigan's schedule.
Right, what we saw fromMichigan over the season.
(35:45):
They beat Northwestern by four.
They beat Rutgers by three.
They beat Penn State.
Badge lost to Penn State, I getit, but they beat Penn State by
four.
At home.
Badge lost at home, I get it,but they beat Penn State by four
.
At home.
Badge lost at home, I get it.
They beat Oregon by four.
They beat Indiana by three.
That seemed that Wisconsinannihilated, right.
(36:06):
They lost Illinois by 20.
Illinois went to Ann Arbor andwon by 20, 93 to 73, 93 to 73.
Guess what the badgers did toillinois the second time that
they saw they put up 95 points.
(36:26):
They beat them 95 to 74 and theonly reason why it looked close
was because the badgers let itbe close.
It was a butt kicking.
So so you can say, and I willfull heartedly say with you that
Michigan did deserve a betterseed than what they got.
I thought they did.
They won the big 10 tournament.
(36:47):
I thought they deserved abetter seat than that.
But to say that they had abetter season than Wisconsin
shut up?
No, because I look at the whatMichigan did, the proof in the
pudding.
You want to look back and seewhat did they do that made them
look so, so good, right?
If I look at st john's withrick patino, st john's is a team
that shoots like 30 in somegames, 30 for the field, and
(37:10):
they somehow win by 20.
How many teams do that?
Not many, right I?
I just look at what these teamsdo and I look at what michigan
did this season.
It wasn't impressive.
They just won games.
They won games.
But at some point, winninggames is winning games like what
?
What is you gotta look good inthose games, right?
They didn't look good.
They snuck games out.
(37:30):
The Big Ten championship game,I'm gonna tell you this right
now Wisconsin looked like crap.
So did Michigan.
They look like absolute crap.
I, I mean both teamscollectively.
Badgers shot 22% from the field, michigan shot 32% and they won
by six%.
You won by six and the Badgersshot absolutely 22%, 10% worse
(37:52):
than what you did and you stillonly won by six.
That's what I got to say.
That's all I got to say to that.
All I got to say to that one isMichigan I will agree with this
guy did not deserve to just geta five seat.
I thought they could have beena four line, I really did.
But Wisconsin did not deserveto be that much lower than
Michigan.
I can tell you that much.
I can tell you that much rightnow.
(38:13):
Now we talked about, you know, wisconsin in coming into this
tournament here and the threeline and we thought they'd end
up in Milwaukee.
They did end up in Milwaukee.
They're going to end up goingout to Denver and a lot of
people were upset about that one.
They went through kind of whathappened and why they ended up
where they did.
Iowa Went through kind of whathappened and why they ended up
where they did.
Iowa State ended up higher thanthem.
(38:33):
I believe they ended up in thesouth region.
Iowa State did and they'regoing to play in Milwaukee.
But I think what needs to bekind of disclosed before the
tournament field is released iswho's going to be playing and
who's not going to be playingBecause Iowa State is going to
be without one of their bestguards for the tournament, for
the whole tournament, they'regoing to be without one of their
(39:00):
best players.
So I think that's a huge note.
That kind of just got left out.
Kind of got left out of itbecause everybody was like, oh
yeah, you know, iowa state, youknow 24-9, came out of the big
12 solid year.
They got some good wins.
Yeah, okay, that's all fine anddandy and I love that, but at
the same time you're missing oneof your best players.
And what we've seen from iowastate is when they're missing
their best players, they don'tlook good and I know that's a
lot of teams, right, but theystruggle.
So, missing one of your bestguards, going into this one,
(39:21):
you're going to struggle alittle bit.
So I thought wisconsin couldhave jumped them, maybe ended up
in milwaukee.
But wisconsin, look back at itand say to yourself we, we lost
to Oregon, we lost to Oregon, welost to Penn State.
I don't, you did it to yourself, right?
You can't be upset at anybodybut yourself.
You had the opportunity.
You probably had theopportunity the way that it went
(39:42):
, going into the Big Tentournament.
You were on the four line.
You ended up on the three line.
Who knows, Some teams lose onthe two line.
Maybe you jump a team Like nah,I don't know if you jump
Michigan state, but maybe a jumpa team, I don't know Right, if
you don't lose those games, those, those games that you had
in hand.
If you are the Wisconsin badges, because you did, you had those
games in hand.
(40:03):
You had the Penn state game, oregon.
You had that game that wouldhave, I mean, michigan state.
You struggled in on the roadbut not a bad loss.
You had a good Big Tentournament.
You could have played your wayback into it.
You would have been going intoMarch with one loss in your last
.
I mean one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine,
10, 10 games.
You'd been going into thattournament with one loss.
(40:25):
You'd been 9-1 in your last 10,with some pretty good wins A
win at Purdue, a win againstIllinois where you smoked them,
a game against Michigan Statewhere you just lost at the
Breslin Center.
I mean that's a solid month.
That's a solid month that youcould have put on your resume.
But that game against Oregon andthe game against Penn State
completely kiboshed that.
So you have yourself to blamefor that one.
(40:46):
You go to Denver.
Now you see what happens, right.
I thought it was interesting.
I you see what happens, right.
I thought it was interesting.
I saw a stat the most losses inthe Big Ten title game history.
The Badgers lead it six lossesin the Big Ten title game.
So they get there, and that'simpressive in its own right, but
now you got to win it right.
They lost six times.
It happens, though, but itproves that you get there a lot,
(41:07):
and that's impressive in itsown right is getting to that
point there, especially fourgames in four days, and that's
what we saw, I believe, in thatMichigan game.
There was both teams justplayed like they had tired legs
and they played like it was justfour.
It was the fourth game in fourdays and it was like, ah, we're
tired.
We're tired today, and that'sabout it, because we saw that
for John Tonje in that one.
He looked absolutely terriblein that game.
(41:31):
The officiating was terrible, and I'm not even going to say it
was terrible towards Wisconsin.
I'm gonna say it was terriblein general.
Steven Crowell got a uh, he wastechnical foul for staring at a
guy.
John Blackwell got a technicalfoul for flipping a ball.
I mean it was just, I don'tknow, big 10 ref.
They're not good enough to makethe NCAA tournament, I don't
know, but it was just ridiculous.
I think the Badgers had threetechnical fouls in all three
(41:54):
games, so before the Michigangame.
So that tells you how it wasgoing there.
But hey, we got more badges.
I want to preview the Montanagame.
I want to talk a little bit moreMarch madness on the backside
of this ad break.
Here We'll be right back.
Welcome back into Wisconsin.
Sports.
Time to go with trade.
I'm your host, tradege.
It is march 19th.
(42:14):
Here we're coming back.
I just wanted to mention beforewe get into the madness here,
real fast.
You can find us twitter, twitch, tiktok.
Just search wisco sports on thego, facebook and youtube.
Search wisco sports on the gowith trage.
You can email the show wiscosports on the go with trage at
gmailcom or you can shoot us atext 715-990-4914.
That is 715-990-4914.
That is 715-990-4914.
(42:34):
There I want to get to thisBadgers matchup with Montana.
The Grizz right.
The Grizz playing.
The Badgers, they're out inDenver.
The Badgers no favors by thecommittee.
You go to the Big TenChampionship, play the latest
game on Sunday and then you endup playing one of the earliest
games on Thursday in Denver inthe altitudes.
Not much rest, it's yeah, that's what you get.
(42:58):
And this Montana team, as muchas people are going to say, well
, you know Montana, they're notthat great of a team.
They're 14s.
Guess what this team has, Ibelieve, the sixth best
offensive efficiency over thelast 15 games or something like
that.
The last 10, the last 15.
They have been ridiculous as oflate here.
So I mean, they're not bad.
(43:19):
They're not bad at all.
They actually have the highestfield goal percentage among all
NCAA tournament teams 50.2%.
They entered the tournamentwinning 14 of 15, shooting 54%
from the field and 42% fromdowntown entering tournament
play.
That is impressive.
They have been impressive forthe last well, 15 games that
we've seen this team.
(43:40):
They do have two.
Well, one common opponent tothe Badgers and then one
opponent that well, we saw lastyear but we didn't see this year
.
They lost to Oregon 79-48.
They lost to Tennessee 92-57.
But regular season play doesn'tmatter.
We know that.
We know that regular seasonplay does not matter.
So what matters in this game?
(44:01):
That's what we're going to talkabout here.
Montana, they run a lot of fiveout, a lot of five out.
They spread you out.
They try to post you up alittle bit.
Try to spread you out, drivethe lane, get a little bit of
one-on-ones there with theguards.
They love transition, but theylack size.
Size is the big thing.
They're going to use that postguy as a screener.
They're going to look for ballscreens, a lot of ball screens,
a lot of motion.
(44:21):
They want to get downhill.
Looking for kickouts, they wantto get shooter shots.
That's what they're looking forthere.
Offensively, this is a toughteam.
If the Badgers don't show upand play physical, if they don't
show up and play physical inthis game, if the Badgers don't
come out in this game ready torock, they could get jumped.
They could get jumped early andthat's dangerous.
That's dangerous.
(44:42):
They got to play physical.
They got to get through screensthere.
They got to get after it.
In this one, this could be atough game.
They got to get after it in allfacets there.
So and this could be a toughgame, they got to get after it
in all facets there.
So that's what I'm looking atin this one here, when Montana
goes small ball.
This is what I'm interested inBecause Montana, like I said,
they have a relatively smalllineup.
They don't really have anybodyabove that 6'8 spot Like their
(45:07):
biggest guy.
I mean, they have a guy on aroster at 6'10, but they don't
really utilize him, theirbiggest guy.
They usually rotate in at 6'8",so they don't have a lot of
size Badgers have the sizeadvantage.
When they go small ball, whatdo you do?
Right?
That's the question.
If you're Greg Gard, do youpunish them?
Do you say I'm going to keepSteven Crowell and Nolan Winter
in there, my two seven footerswith their 6'8 guys, and I'm
going to pound the rock, right?
Or do you go small ball withthem?
(45:29):
Do you put in a lineup with aguy like maybe Carter, gilmore
or Amos running the five there,or you know, maybe less crawl,
maybe more winter running thefive, and you have Amos or
Gilmore filling in at the four?
Those are all questions thathave to be answered, or what
we're going to see what Gregguard's going to do.
But my thing is, if you come outin this game, you jump on them
(45:52):
early, right, say you go, youcan't have.
What happened in James Madisonagainst James Madison last year
happened again.
Right, james Madison went up 12to two against the Badgers and
from there it was over theBadgers.
You jump out early, say.
You go up like 16 to five, right, something big early.
Now you can bring in the postplayers.
Now you can slow the game downand dominate the paint because
(46:15):
you have a big lead.
Now you don't have to worry somuch about the defensive end.
The problem is going to be isthat if you're playing this back
and forth, back and forth, backand forth, let's run with this
team kind of battle, you'regoing to allow them to stay into
it.
You're not going to be able toutilize the bigs.
You're going to have to go awayfrom the bigs.
You're gonna have to go to thatsmall ball lineup.
So that's kind of where I'mlooking at this badger team and
saying they got to come outearly and they got to get off to
a good start here.
They got to get off to a goodstart in this game here.
(46:36):
Play your game right.
Don't fall behind.
For the love of pete.
Don't settle for threes.
Don't settle for threes.
That's the big thing for me isdon't settle for threes.
If you you're the Badgers inthis one, you got to find ways
to get downhill.
This is a team.
They have good guards butthey're not quick.
(46:56):
The Badgers outmatched themathletically.
They from top to bottom.
They have big guards, they havephysical guards, but the
Badgers John Tonje, johnBlackwell those guys need to get
downhill, they can't settle forthrees.
I think personally, I thinkhonestly, we could see Montana
play a soft man, because theyare undersized.
(47:18):
They're like well, we can'tmatch you, we can't match up
with you guys, let's play a softman, let's try to do.
Because we watched the Badgersagainst Michigan, right, we
watched them struggle, shootingin three in a couple different
games this year, against PennState and a couple other ones.
They've struggled to shoot thethree.
If the Badgers start settlingfor threes and they start
(47:39):
missing Montana might just sitin the paint.
They might just say all right, shoot it, prove to me you can
knock them down.
We can't guard you one-on-one,we can't take you like that.
We're not going to defend youway out there.
Shoot it right.
They might get to that point.
So I think the Badgers have todo a good job on working the
offense, getting downhill, working the ball around,
(48:01):
utilizing the ball screens, keeping the movement right,
working on cutters, drive thelane, work downhill then hit
kickouts, kick out threes I likethose.
Kick, then hit kickouts,kickout threes.
I like those.
Kickout threes, I like them.
Settle for three, not so much.
So that's where I'm looking atthe Badgers.
This one, this is the way thatthey have to win this game here.
The bigs and I'm going to getto this here in a minute but the
(48:21):
bigs, they have to show up inthis tournament.
You want to win.
You want to win in March.
This is the one thing that Ithink is going to be the biggest
knock on the wisconsin badgers.
They don't have a big thatcould be dominant right.
Think about your dominant bigsjenai broom right.
Cooper flag can dominate there.
He's a little bit bigger, hecan dominate there.
You have dominant bigs acrosscollege basketball hunter
(48:42):
dickinson for kansas right.
Stephen crowell's not that hedoesn't prove to me to be an
inside presence, and that'ssomething that I write down
every single week.
I don't, you know, for me Idon't want Steven.
Steven Crowell doesn't have tobe looking to score, he has to
look to at least be a presenceright.
And that doesn't mean thatevery single time he's shooting
in the post, that just meanswhen he gets it he takes a
(49:03):
couple dribbles, maybe he backsthe guy down.
Act like you're going to shootand then kick it out.
You can't just oh.
Max Klezman passes it down toSteven Crowell and his first
reaction he doesn't even look tomake a move towards the basket,
he just kicks it out to JohnTonje.
He's got to at least look to bea presence in the post, because
if you don't have a postpresence, you're going to take
(49:24):
away from what these guys aregoing to be able to do driving
the basketball and it's going tomake defending you a heck of a
lot easier.
You got to find some postpresence.
So that's where I'm looking atthese guys in this tournament
here.
But the Badgers, like Imentioned before, in this game
against Montana, they got to gointo attack mode, they got to
get downhill, they got to force, because this team lacks size.
Montana lacks size.
(49:46):
How do you beat a team thatlacks size?
Get downhill, get to the rim, make them follow you, because
they will.
They'll have to, otherwise whatare they going to do?
Just let you keep scoring atthe rim.
They're going to follow youeventually, and guess what?
You have one of the best freethrow.
You have the best free throwshooting team in the country.
Utilize that.
Utilize that to your strength.
(50:13):
The one thing that makes menervous and this is the thing
that makes me nervous completelywisconsin struggles defensively
at times and this montana teamthey're lighting it up going
into the tournament sodefensively.
The badgers have got to come toplay.
No second chances.
No second chance.
This is a team in montana.
They're not big.
They don't rebound.
They're they.
They absolutely are terrible.
Everybody believe they're theworst rebounding team in the big
sky.
They were the big skytournament champs.
(50:34):
They were the worst reboundingteam in the entire conference.
They don't rebound.
But if you allow them to getafter the glass, be more
physical, play faster, get afterit more than you do in this
game, you're done.
You're done.
They have some big guards.
They don't have quick guards.
You have the superior guards inthis one.
You got to play tough withthese guys.
(50:55):
You got to get after them.
You got to defend that paint.
Shut down those lanes, justlike we've seen this Badgers
team do a couple different timesthis season.
Shut down those driving lanes.
Take care of your business.
This is a game that the Badgersshould win, have to win.
You can't lose this game.
You can't lose this game.
You can Knock on wood, right, you can, but you can't lose this
(51:18):
game.
Because I gotta be honest withyou at this point.
I know, I know, and people aregonna tell me well, dredge, this
Wisconsin team was picked tofinish 12th in the Big Ten.
Anything they do from here onout is a success, right?
No, because now they set anexpectation.
You exceeded what you weresupposed to do.
(51:40):
But now what are you going todo?
Just lay down?
No, you need this game.
You need to win this game.
You got to get out of the firstround.
Right, this is your first game.
You got to get out of this one.
Then you get the game too, because if you go back to back
years, last year you lost to a12 seed.
This year lose to a 14 seed.
Greg guard, I'm sorry, buddy, but at some point you got to
(52:02):
have some postseason success.
So that's kind of where I'm atright now.
You got to make it out of thisgame at least.
And then after that we look atthe bracket.
Here You're going to probably Idon't know.
I picked multiple different ways, but I looked at a BYU team
getting past VCU, but VCU isvery good defensively, so they
could slow down BYU.
(52:23):
That could be an excellent game, game two for the Badgers,
whether it's VCU or it's BYU,one team's great defensively,
the other one's gooddefensivelyly, but they could
shoot the lights out of thebuilding from three there in BYU
, so both those could be goodmatchups there for the Badgers.
I have the Badgers in mypersonal opinion.
I have them going elite eight.
I picked them the elite eight.
I have them taking on Bama inthat elite eight.
(52:45):
I think they can go dancing aways I really do from there.
Who knows who knows from there.
But right, we focus right nowgetting past this game on
Thursday here against Montana.
That's the start.
This team is hungry.
I believe they're hungry.
They got to show it now, right.
Stephen Crowe's got to show it.
John Blackwell's got to show upto play.
John Tonje, max Klesman, thoseguys, they all look pissed off.
(53:05):
When they did the um selectionshow, they panned the camera to
them, right, and they showedthem.
When they're selecting them andthey all look ticked right.
Just lost big 10 championship.
They look tick.
Use that fire.
You get into denver, roll withit.
That's what I love to see there.
Aaron, what do you think who isgoing to be?
Look through the bracket realfast.
What is your, what is yourupset?
(53:25):
Pick your one upset that youbelieve is going to happen.
Mine, I, I went crazy with it.
It it's not really crazy.
I guess it's not really toocrazy.
I took I have UC San Diegobeating Michigan game one.
I took UC San Diego overMichigan.
Speaker 2 (53:43):
I hate to play second
fiddle, literally.
I was thinking that too onlybecause I've been listening to
some podcasts and some thingsthere as of recently, just
trying to get a little bit moreof a clue on what's going on and
things, and like Michigan's notplaying good and you already
mentioned it, michigan's notplaying well at all right now,
like they're limping in, andthat's one of those things.
Like a team that's limping inthe way that they are might get
(54:06):
caught.
You know what I mean?
We've seen it before, we'veseen it before.
We'll see it again.
Only because you took that,I'll go some other direction,
just to be different.
Your favorite team, right,marquette.
I'll take New Mexico to beatMarquette in the first round,
why not?
Speaker 1 (54:22):
I like that one.
I like that one.
It's Rick Pitino's kid outthere coaching there, so maybe
we see Richard take care ofbusiness there with those Lobos.
So I mean we can't wait.
The madness is here.
It's exciting it's starting uphere this week.
So with that hopefully we'retalking about Badgers next week.
But until then we'll catch youguys on the next episode.
(54:43):
Thank you guys for tuning intonight here.
It's been a great show.
We'll catch you guys back herenext Wednesday, but until then
see ya.
