Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to the basic Bible study looking at John,
chapter 5, verses 19 to 26.
We're going to look at thephrase for the father.
That phrase is mentioned fourtimes in the gospel of John,
chapter 5.
What we're going to look atwith these four points is the
relationship between God the sonand God the father.

(00:21):
Jesus in this chapter talkingabout his relationship with God
the father and what God thefather has done for him and what
God the father has given him.
The first point is for thefather loves the son.
That is in John, chapter 5,verse 20.

(00:43):
The loving relationship betweenJesus and God the Father is all
over the scripture.
In John 3.16, the Bible statesFor God so loved the world that
he gave his only begotten son,and the expression of love is
given.
The intimate lovingrelationship between God the
Father, god the Son is all builton love.

(01:06):
Let's look at severalreferences in the scripture when
it comes to the lovingrelationship between God the
Father and God the Son.
Matthew, chapter 3, verse 17.
It says and suddenly a voicecame from heaven saying this is
my beloved son, in whom I amwell pleased.
What we see here is that loving, intimate, affectionate,

(01:27):
passionate relationship betweenGod the Father and God the Son
and here in the baptism of JesusChrist.
When the heaven opened, god theFather spoke publicly.
And what God the Father saidabout God the Son is so powerful
, it's in line with his lovingrelationship with his Son.

(01:49):
It says this is my beloved Son,jesus is my beloved Son, jesus
is my blessed Son, jesus is myloving Son and I'm well pleased
with my Son, jesus Christ.
God the Father is pretty muchtelling us that he accepts Jesus
Christ as his son.

(02:09):
He approves Jesus Christ as hisson.
He is pleased with Jesus Christas his son.
He is content with Jesus Christas his son.
God the Father loves his sonand that love that God the
Father has for his son, thatlove, has been transmitted to
those who believe in the son,and that love that God the
Father has for his son, thatlove has been transmitted to
those who believe in the son.
Take away from this lesson whenit comes to the relationship

(02:32):
between God the Father, god theSon, for you to know that, yes,
your parents will abandon you, your girlfriend will leave you,
but I want to assure you thatGod loves you.
Even a mother will forsaketheir child, but God will never
forsake you because Jesus saidin the scripture that he will
never leave us nor forsake us,because of the loving

(02:52):
relationship that God the Fatherhas for God the Son, and that
same relationship has been givento us through Jesus Christ.
Let's move to the next reference.
In John, chapter 3, verse 35,it says the Father loves the Son
and he has given all thingsinto His hand.
Again, love gives.
Sometimes we tell people thatwe love them with our words, but
our actions are opposite.

(03:14):
One of the attributes of loveis giving.
One of the attributes of loveis service.
So God is not just saying thatJesus is his beloved son.
He's actually demonstrating thelove that he has for his son by
giving him.
In this instance, in John, chapter 3, verse 35, because of

(03:35):
the love that God the Father hasfor the son, he has given all
things into the hand of the son.
So Jesus Christ is in charge ofeverything as a result of the
love and relationship betweenGod the Father and God the Son.
2 Peter, chapter 1, verse 17,.
It says For he received fromGod the Father honor and glory

(03:56):
when such a voice came to himfrom the excellent glory.
This is my beloved Son, in whomI am well pleased.
This is Peter again, who was ahigh witness of the baptism of
Jesus Christ, god the fatherdeclaring publicly his love for
his son.
The father not only loves theson, the father demonstrates his
love for his son by showing theson all things that he himself

(04:20):
does.
This is a demonstration of theloving relationship between God
the Father and God the Son.
God the Father shows his Sonall things that God the Father
does.
He will show him greater worksthan these that you may marvel.
So the demonstration of God'sloving relationship with Jesus

(04:41):
Christ is God showing JesusChrist what he does.
When we see the mighty works ofJesus Christ, that is a
demonstration of God theFather's love for his son.
So, whatever God the Fatherdoes, he shows God the son and
that is why, if God the Fathercan heal, god the son can heal.
Let's look at the second point, for as the father raises the

(05:03):
dead and gives life to them, even so the son gives life to
whom he will.
That is John, chapter 5, verse21.
Another relationship betweenGod the Father, god the Son, in
terms of power the first pointwas the relationship between God
the Father, god and the Son isthe expression of love and we

(05:24):
see the demonstration of that aswell.
So the second point also statesthe relationship between God
the Father and the Son throughpower.
Power in a sense of raising thedead.
For as the Father raises thedead and gives life to them,
even so the Son gives life towhom he will.
So whatever the Father can do,the Son can also do.

(05:48):
To be more specific, in thiscase, the father can raise the
dead and he can give life tothem.
The son is also capable ofdoing that.
So God the father is theomnipotent, god the son is also
omnipotent.
They share the same essence, they share the same divine

(06:10):
attributes, they share the sameGod-like traits as father like
son, like son like father.
Let's look at several referencesto highlight this point in
terms of relationship betweenGod the Father, god the Son,
true power.
Luke, chapter 7, verse 14,.

(06:31):
Then he came and touched theopen coffin and those who
carried him stood still and hesaid Young man, I say to you
arise.
So this is just a clear exampleof Jesus Christ demonstrating
his power and authority to beable to raise the dead and give
life to them.
Because God the Father can dothat, god the son can also do

(06:57):
that as well.
After 8, verse 54, it says butbut he put them all outside,
took her by the hand and called, saying little girl, arise.
Another account of Jesus Christdemonstrating his power of, of
raising the dead and giving lifeto the dead.
This is something that only Godcan do, which shows that Jesus

(07:20):
Christ is God the son, andwhatever God the father can do,
god the son can also do, likemanner.
Let's look at another example.
In John, chapter 11, verse 25to 26, jesus said to her I am
the resurrection and the life.
He who believes in me, thoughhe may die, he shall live, and

(07:41):
whoever lives and believes in meshall never die.
Do you believe this?
So, again, jesus Christ statethat he himself I am, that I am.
Statement that God revealedhimself to Moses when Moses was
asking God God, who are you, sothat I can tell the children of
Israel, so I can tell Pharaohwho you are?

(08:01):
And God said I am that I am, sothat same I am.
Statement that the father usedto reveal himself to Moses is
the same I am.
Statement that the son is alsousing to identify himself,
identify what he's capable ofdoing, identify his power, that
he is I am the resurrection andthe life, meaning that I am able

(08:24):
to raise the dead and give lifeto the dead, because if my
father can do that, likewise theson can also do that.
Again, this is just therelationship between God the
father, god the son, demonstrated in power.
Let's go to the third point, forthe father judges no one, but
has committed all judgment tothe son.

(08:46):
Wow, this is powerful.
That is from John, chapter 5,verse 22.
God, the father, has committedall judgment to his son.
Let's look at severalreferences in the scripture of
Jesus Christ exercising thisresponsibility of authority to
judge Matthew, chapter 11, verse27.

(09:07):
All things have been deliveredto me by my Father.
So whatever Jesus Christreceives, he gets it from the
Father.
Whatever Jesus can do is as aresult of the Father's will,
because he was sent from theFather.
Jesus would never speak on hisown authority, he would never do
his own will.
So we see here that Jesus issaying that all things have been

(09:29):
delivered to me by my Father.
What I have, I got it from myFather.
No one knows the Son except theFather, which is true.
Nor does anyone know the Fatherexcept the Son, you and I.
We cannot know the Son withoutthe Father and we cannot know
the Father without the Son.
So we need the Son to know theFather and we need the father to

(09:50):
know the son, because you and I, we don't know the father
except the son, we don't knowthe son except the father.
Let me continue to read.
And the one whom the son willsto reveal.
This is just a clear example ofhow God the father has declared
all things to his son, and oneof the all things is

(10:11):
responsibility of judgment.
In Matthew 28, verse 18, itstates and Jesus came and spoke
to them, saying All authorityhas been given to me in heaven
and on earth.
You need authority to judge.
So Jesus has been given suchauthority from his Father, god.
That is why he has the right tojudge people.

(10:33):
In Acts, chapter 17, verse 31,it says because he has appointed
a day which he would judge theworld in righteousness by the
man whom he has ordained.
Wow, he has given assurance ofthis to all by raising him from
the dead.
Giving assurance of this to allby raising him from the dead.
So this is just anotherconfirmation of the authority

(10:58):
given by God the Father to hisson to be responsible to judge
the world in righteousness andthe judgment of the son is fear.
It's equal, will give justice,he will recompense.
There's no partiality in hisjudgment.
Let's go to another verse tohighlight this point of of the
relationship between god, thefather, god the son in the

(11:19):
responsibility of judgment.
The father loves the son and hehas given all things into his
hand.
John, chapter 17, verse 1 to 2.
As you have given him authorityover all flesh that he should
give internal life to as many asyou have given him, so Jesus
Christ has such a tremendousauthority to judge and also to

(11:40):
grant internal life to those whobelieve in him.
So that is why Jesus could sayI am the way, the truth and the
life.
No one comes to the Fatherexcept through him, and this
clearly states the reason, because the Father has given all
and the life.
No one comes to the Fatherexcept through him, and this
clearly states the reason, because the Father has given all
authority to his Son.
So all flesh are under theauthority of Jesus Christ.
So you better believe in him sothat he can escape his judgment

(12:03):
and he will give you eternallife.
1 Peter, chapter 4, verse 5, itsays they will give an account
to him who is ready to judge theliving and the dead.
Wow, again, another referencestating the authority that Jesus
Christ possesses he has theright to pass judgment.
He will do that on the day ofjudgment, the appointed time.

(12:27):
He will judge the living andthe dead.
The father judges no one, buthas given.
See, god leaves the judgment tohis son, and the reason why is
going to state in John 5, verse23.
That all should honor the sonjust as they honor the father.
He who does not honor the sondoes not honor the father who

(12:50):
sent him.
Wow, this is a stamp of honorfrom God the Father for us as
mankind, human beings, to honorthe son just as we honor the
father.
Every knee will bow, everytongue will confess that Jesus
is Lord, that Jesus is the kingof kings.
He's the Lord of Lord.
So you better bow now or elseyou're gonna bow later,

(13:13):
forcefully, and you have nochoice.
You will bow before the Son ofGod, who has been given
authority over all flesh, overall things.
And the reason God is doingthis, God the Father is doing
this is for you and I to honorHis Son, who deserves our
highest honor, glory andadoration.
Honor the Son, just as theyhonor the Father.

(13:35):
That's pretty much the endresult.
So if you don't honor the son,you don't honor the father.
If you claim to honor thefather, you have to honor the
son.
Look what it says in Luke, chapter 10, verse 16, to
highlight this point of honor hewho hears you hears me.
He who rejects you rejects me.

(13:55):
And who rejects me rejects himwho sends me.
So if you honor Jesus, you willhear him.
If you dishonor Jesus, youreject him.
1 John 2, verse 23.
So you cannot accept the sonand reject the father.
You cannot accept the fatherand reject the son.
Has the father also.
So you cannot accept the sonand reject the father.

(14:16):
You cannot accept the fatherand reject the son.
You have to accept both God thefather, god the son, like
father, like son.
You have to embrace them.
You have to believe in them.
Let's go to our last point, forthe father has life in himself.
That is John, chapter 5, verse26.
It shows that the Father haslife in himself.
That is John, chapter 5, verse26.
It shows that the Father haslife.

(14:39):
God is life.
So the Son has life.
So that is why the human Jesus, even though he died for our sin
.
He resurrected after three daysBecause he is God, he is life
and if you look at all of his Iam statements, it clearly shows
that he is life.

(15:00):
I am the bread of life, I amthe fountain of life, I am the
resurrection and the life.
Everything about Jesus is life.
I am the way, the truth and thelife.
Jesus is all about life becausethere's life in the Father.
All about life because there'slife in the father, for the

(15:20):
father has life in himself, sohe has granted the son to have
life in himself.
So the life source that you andI will obtain, we get it from
the spirit of god, and thatspirit of god is in jesus christ
.
God is spirit and jesus statesthat the words that I speak to
you there is spirit in and theyare life.
So Jesus is the source of life.
So you and I, if we need life,we can call on Jesus, we can

(15:41):
draw closer to Jesus.
When we abide in Jesus, heabides in us, we can live an
abundant life, and one of thereasons, one of the main reasons
Jesus coming on this earth wasbecause he states I have come to
do what?
To give life, and life inabundance, because Jesus is life
and he has life in himself, because the father has life in
himself, like father, like son.

(16:02):
Whatever the father is, that'swho the son is.
Whatever the father does, that's exactly what the son can
do.
Let's look at multiple verseswhen it comes to life.
John, chapter 1, verse 14, inhim was life and the life was
the light of man.
Jesus is life, no doubt.
First Corinthians, chapter 15,verse 45, it says and so it is

(16:25):
written, the first man, adam, became a living being.
The last Adam became alife-giving spirit.
Adam became a life-givingspirit.
Differentiate between the firstAdam, the second Adam here is
Jesus and the first Adam.
He is a living being.
He is not a source of life.
God gave Adam life.

(16:46):
Adam became a living soul, butGod the Son, he is life himself.
He is a life-giving spirit.
So Jesus is not just anordinary man.
He is God, 100%, the source oflife, the creator of life.
Those who believe in him, hewill give them internal life.

(17:06):
Those who don't believe in him, they are condemned in hell.
I am pleading with you, whoeveryou are watching me, listening
to me, embrace Jesus, give yourlife to Jesus, because there are
two places, when you die thatyou're going to spend the rest
of your life with.
So the physical death is notfinal.
I'm going to close with this.

(17:27):
To see the relationship betweenGod, the Father, god the Son, in
terms of love, power andjudgment, father, god, the son,
in terms of love, power andjudgment, down at chapter 7,
verse 13 to 14, consummate this, this, this relationship.
I was watching in the nightvisions and behold one like the

(17:47):
son of man, coming with theclouds of heaven.
He came to the ancient of daysand they brought him near before
him.
Then to him was given dominionand glory and a kingdom, all
peoples.
At the end of the day, god isdoing this for you and I, to
honor his son, jesus Christ,Like father, like son, whatever

(18:11):
God is, that's you and I.
To honor his son, jesus Christ, like father, like son, whatever
God is, that's who the son is.
Whatever we do to God, we haveto do to the son, and God has
honored, has exalted his son bygiving him dominion, glory and
kingdom that all peoples allover the world, all nations, all

(18:32):
languages will serve the Kingof Kings and the Lord of Lords
and he will have an everlastingdominion and his kingdom will
never pass and his kingdom willnever be destroyed.
Praise God.
God is good, so that is whoJesus is, wherever you are.
If you have never receivedJesus Christ as your personal
savior, he is coming very soon.

(18:53):
I want you to repeat thisprayer after me.
So, lord, I've heard your wordthat you are the son of God,
that you have a lovingrelationship with your father,
that you have been given theright, you have been given the
permission, the authority, toexecute judgment.
Lord Jesus, I believe in you asmy personal Savior.

(19:13):
I'm asking you to write my namein the Lamb's book of life.
Have mercy upon me, o God.
Spare my soul from the pit ofhell.
I thank you for accepting me.
I thank you for welcoming meinto your everlasting dominion.
This I ask in Jesus' preciousname Amen.
