In this episode, I’m joined by Nicole Radziwill, PhD, author and fractional chief data officer to startups and enterprises, to learn more about her leadership journey in the data industry. Nicole shares about her career journey, which is so interesting and varied: from starting out in meteorology (even stormchasing!), transitioning into telecom, to her first chief data officer position in the early 2000s, and getting her PhD then becoming a professor for just over 10 years. Most recently Nicole has been sharing her insights and wisdom back in the data industry in various CDO roles and fractional work, and she has written a new book called Data, Strategy, Culture, and Power, which is a culmination of her decades of learnings. We take some time to talk about the challenges that folks in data roles have, especially CDO roles because they have to navigate the politics and power that surround data. This episode is for any data professionals who have felt the challenges of navigating the politics of the role and are interested in how to move up and overcome. Without further ado, here is Nicole!

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
