Jonathan Helser Part 1 Show Notes

 Summary:

The first season kicks off with Jonathan Helser, a passionate worship leader and co-founder of the Cageless Birds Collective. Jonathan shares his journey of finding his own voice in worship, starting from his parents' prophetic word about his future in music. Despite facing challenges in his youth, Jonathan experienced an encounter with Jesus at summer camp in the early 90s, which ignited his passion for worship. After feeling the awakening of his own well of worship, Jonathan learned to play the guitar and began singing songs from camp. The episode captures Jonathan's heartfelt journey and sets the stage for further conversations about worship and transformative experiences with God.

 SHOW NOTES!

A few fabulous quotes from Jonathan:

“Every year I went to summer camp and would get saved again. But I didn’t know how to create a pressure system in my heart. The pressure system of school and the world was stronger than the intimacy I had inside. Until my senior year, with some of the Delirious songs- I could feel my own well of worship waking up. I remember asking my dad if he had an acoustic guitar so I could learn some songs at camp.”

… “That moment, of feeling my (earthly) dad’s tangible affection and pleasure pour over me, it began to crush the insecurity that I know was clogging the well of song in me… a few weeks later I’m thinking… my dad had waited this long… and I heard the Lord clearly say… ‘You think your dad has been waiting a long time. How long do you think I’ve been waiting? My heart has been longing to hear your heart.’”

“FEAR POINTS IT’S SWORD WHERE GREATNESS IS.”

 a most holy moment-

“…coming to that place in worship where we pour everything in our hearts on the Lord, even if its anger, and of course, adoration- we choose to step out from the fig leaves of our performance and bear our hearts to God. Even if you are not a singer. Sing everything that’s inside you and then be still and let him sing His love back to you.”

What advice would you give 20 yr old Jonathan?

“Looking back, I would tell 20-year-old Jonathan how fleeting the praise of man is.”

Jonathan’s definition of worship-

“Giving back to God what He first gave us.”

 a thought to end with-

“Sing the (new) songs… let freedom break out and people will find out who they are.”
